Druid/Ranger Fix

Nels the Cornwhisperer.8025

I play a Ranger, without the Druid part, and I beat everything easy in solo PvE, have top damage in Dungeons and Fractals, I’m in the top five in Raids, I am pretty awesome in WvW, and if someone could get to me in PvP it would be incredible…

I have a Longbow / Greatsword build that is pretty good, especially if you know how to use it. That’s the point I’m trying to make, by the way. It’s all about knowing how to play what you’re playing, not what build someone else says is better.

The Wiki says that the signature moves don’t work. I know it’s not that big of a thing, but it is something that passes the time between things, and I like the achievement points too. We ought to either get it fixed, or no longer have it be in the game.

This idea is constantly suggested, always this bad, and never going to happen.

You never have to weapon swap. Ever. You can, if you’re not an elementalist/engineer and if you feel like it, but you never have to.

If you’re in WvW and come up to a tower that you can’t take down with your 1-4 weapons on hand, then you should probably just break out the siege…

Some of the dye has such a pathetically small effect it’s just not worth doing. Some pieces can be dyed and don’t actually have any parts that change colour at all.

These suggestions are good, and should never be low on the priority list. Of the whole front page or two of suggestion’s I’ve been through, this is one of the only ones that I can’t point out a downside to.

Having mined and modded the game myself, I know how easy it is to do recolours and change areas that dye targets. This fix could be easily put together with minimal time, effort, or cost. It’s a solid improvement to the game, with no drawback.

Make these kinds of suggestions a lot, as they tend to get drowned out by people who try to rewrite entire gameplay functions.

Merging wouldn’t solve the problem, because it’s not a population issue.

On Vabbi (an empty, dismal EU server) I can still solo every dragon, and get anything I want in Orr. What people guest on the other servers for is so that they can have other people do almost all the work. They tag, they loot, they move on.

Unless you merged enough to make them as full as the problem servers are now, people would still guest to the same places. And if you made it that full, people would guest away from it.

The premise of this suggestion is that if you get five people who have all done a dungeon before, but are all on new characters, and all know how to play their new characters well enough to jump right in to explorables…

It’s not a bad suggestion, but there are so many other things wrong with dungeons that are more important, like why I only get rewards once, and why they’re always 75% of what they’re supposed to be…

See, making them easier for small guilds is a great idea. Making a whole new system to help guilds band together into even bigger masses of people while still feeling special is the problem.

It would be way easier to simply make every Guild Mission completable with a party of five guildies. Or three guildies even. Makes a lot more sense than trying to organize a mob of mobs…

And just for reference, I’m a casual with about 12 real world friends I play with, though never at the same time. We don’t even have a guild, because there’s no point.

In the working season, about 30 minutes a week.

In the off season, it really depends.

EDIT:
I’ll break this down, so it’s easy for anyone. During the working season, (Late October through May) I work 16-18 hours a day, 7 days a week. I wake up in the morning, and have my five minute kitten, shower, shave routine. Then I go to work. When I get home, I usually play a game for a few minutes while my dinner is warming up. Then I eat, then I sleep.

I repeat this every day for about six months, give or take a few weeks. While on the job, when it’s slow like it has been with the weather for the last few weeks, I usually browse the forums while the machinery warms up. Occasionally, I’ll be stuck at work overnight as I have to supervise a mechanic/repair man, and I spend most of that time also on my phone.

As soon as the weather clears, I’ll likely be back to 3-7 minutes in game, and never on the forums.

Zahld, that would be great, except developing a working version of an MMO on an OS that changes on the whims of the completely random people that make it is… well, it’s hard. Most console games, from small indie titles to big Steam titles are not often updated, and are easy to port to anything. Look at Skyrim as a perfect example. GW2 should have a Linux client eventually

Nels the Cornwhisperer.8025

Have you ever actually done the math on the most successful bundle ever? $8.60 USD per person. And that’s the best, with the help of amazing indie titles like Bastion…

If the first million players to have bought GW2 at release payed half price, they’d still have made more money than the best game bundle Linux has ever had.

MMOs don’t work like indie game bundles you can get for free. There isn’t room to screw up, just ask Funcom… They lost more money in the launch of Secret World than humble bundles has made to date.

Unlike indie games, where people can just make 300 and hope one sticks, with very little risk and very high reward, MMOs do business in tens of millions of dollars for each single game.

The time and energy that would go in to a linux port would be very unlikely to show any kind of return at all, because no matter how you look at it, nothing has ever made good money running on linux.

Valve makes games for Linux because Valve makes games for everything in an attempt to push as much crap on as many idiots as possible.

Mesmer: Staff, sword if you’re in to point blank.
Elementalist: Almost every weapon set, depending on attunement.
Warrior: Greatsword, Longbow, Hammer, Axe/Mace.

That’s just to get you started, look at some, and see how you like ‘em. There isn’t really any way to do exactly what you want, as party support and utility doesn’t come with great AoE and lots of damage.

You can specialize in AoE damage, but you’ll have to give up the utility, and be a bit squishy. You can specialize in the utility and give up on the damage and be a bit squishy. You can specialize in not being squishy, and lose the utility and AoE damage.
