It is not possible for me to attempt anything related to underclocking.

I can only boot the PC using the old GPU.
The newer GPU results in the beep-code and boots without any signal to the monitor.

Due to not having a working monitor while using the newer GPU, I can’t acces the AMD Settings or AMD Overdrive to underclock.

An update:

Today during a dungeon attempt I got a black screen.
No signal was coming through to the Monitor anymore and I heard the following beeps coming from the motherboard:

Long – Short – Short – Short.

according to the following link:

http://superuser.com/questions/783082/beep-codes-definition-for-asus-motherboard

it means no VGA is detected.

Could it be because of the newer GPU (the RX 480) slotted into an older Mobo with an older CPU and RAM?

I hope I didn’t destroy my GPU.

More info:

I’ve put the older GPU back into the PC and that resulted in no beeps whatsoever (yet I resume to the older problem of being unable to play the game.)

Elementalist or Necromancer seem like the best options for you when reading your post.

Especially Necromancer considering your ping.
It looks cool, it’s strong, stylish, flashy, long range/close range depending on your preference. it can tank, it can support but it’s main purpose is to simply dps.

These days necromancers can do just about any content and they aren’t likely “shunned” so finding a group won’t be too much of an issue.

You guys are certainly making the CPU part more interesting as time goes by. :p

Also Onevstheworld is correct, I had no issues with the FPS, they were in fact perfectly fine.

I have also put the AMD RX-480 in my PC yesterday and I can happily say I’ve been able to play without a single error/crash yesterday.
My CPU does still require some upgrading because the difference between the CPU and GPU is too great.

In the very least I can play the game once more and on max settings (if I want) at that!

It’s amazing what a proper GPU can accomplish.

I do need a new case if I’m upgrading any further so that’s added to the list.
As time goes on the costs only continue to increase.

The 7700K sounds interesting but as of right now I lack the knowledge to make a clear judgement between the Kaby Lake and Skylake CPU’s.
They both require a 1151 socket though so a Mobo upgrade is mandatory.

P.S. a friend of mine suggested me to get a DDR5x instead of a DDR4 for RAM.
Isn’t this a bit “overkill”?

I just discovered the i5 6600K Skylake, the price is a bit less than the 4690K and the CPU specs seem to be roughly equal.

the 4690K scores with a higher single-core performance apparently.

Should I still make the jump to Skylake?

I have purchased the AMD RX-480 8GB Gaming X GPU which is to be delivered tomorrow.

I have not yet replaced my MOBO/CPU or RAM but, as said before, I will likely have to. (thebottlenecker.com strongly suggested it as well.)

Tomorrow I’ll try to install the GPU first, due to my ancient CPU a bottleneck is guaranteed but I hope I’ll at least be able to play the game again for a bit.
A mobo + i5 4690k cpu are the next investments followed shortly by a DDR4.

Thanks a million everyone.
Not only for helping me get a set-up for GW2 again but also for increasing my knowledge regarding hardware.
Before this thread I didn’t have a single clue about the differences between DDR3/4 or “bottlenecking”

Ansau/Fermi, the price is a bit higher than you two suspected but that is no issue.
You two have sparked my interest to continue down the road of improving my PC.

I’ve never used Nvidia before but the GTX 1060 looks interesting, as does the RX-480 which seems to score a bit higher from what I’ve read.

I was planning to make the GPU my first step in improving my PC but if I have to I’ll look into getting a new CPU or perhaps an entire new system.

Would there be any parts of my old PC availlable for recycling into a newer system?
My RAM for example?

Naturally the more costs I’d be able to save the better.

Nonetheless, thanks a lot already all who have replied.

Ahai everyone,

I’m personally not all to great when it comes to hardware/specs etc. but I’d love it if some of you could help me get back in the game.

Back when Guild Wars 2 launched I bought myself a new PC to run the game smoothly, knowing it would be more demanding than GW1.

Due to various reasons I quit the game and when I returned about a year ago I began playing on my laptop.
My laptop has recently began overheating due to it not being optimized for games and as such I wanted to get back to my old PC.
The issues with my PC is that after a random amount of time I’ll get the error:

“Display driver AMD has stopped responding and has recovered "

This error always has a black screen as a result and often ends up with the game not responding anymore.

I’ve tried multiple things to “fix” this issue such as:

  • Reinstalling the latest drivers multiple times.
  • Taking my PC apart, thouroughly cleaning it from any dust.
  • Underclocking the CPU to boost performance.
  • Running the game on the lowest settings possible.
  • Using a different monitor to exclude that being the issue.

None of this has worked however,
I have finally reached the conclusion that my GPU might simply be broken/outdated and was planning to search for a newer GPU. (I believe faulty-manufacturing might be the issue because shortly after release I’ve also had problems with this error message yet blamed myself for having made a mistake with settings/software.)

Any insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated and if in agreement with it being my GPU I’d more than welcome suggestions for a newer GPU.

A lot of thanks in advance.

Outfits/Armor you want.

The outfit is most likely to be just that… an outfit.
I’m not saying this out of pessimism but observation.
The “coat” doesn’t have a plit in the belt area this means that it is in fact a long coat.

Scholar Armour has its split in the belt-section (mid-section) and any new armour pieces are bound to have this split in a similar location (to prevent horrendous clipping. A.K.A. the reason outfits exist in the first place.).

Unless Marjory has decided to be an Adventure-class profession now, this is bound to be an outfit.

My sincere apologies to all whom are in love with this look.
I would’ve wanted it as armour instead as well. ^^

is every class building full berserk yet in PVE?

  • the “As much damage as possible, as little utility as needed” meta is still in-place in a lot of locations. Condition damage is however more viable in the meta (meaning: less Berserker’s, more Viper’s)
  • Raids have also been introduced making place for more dedicated healers (druids, tempests for example) and tanks (mesmers are a great tank!)
  • Dungeons, Fractals etc. often have groups that accept non-meta builds. If you like non-meta gameplay, don’t worry. Most people aren’t that stuck-up with the Meta anymore unless the stakes are high.

are other builds like Healing Power based viable?

  • Answered in the above section, but yes!

is WvW still worth playing?

  • It totally is, WvW now has reward tracks, better rewards, and continues to get support. WvW isn’t perfect yet but it’s getting a lot of attention (especially compared since before.)

Notes from Rata Novus - Thoughts?

  1. At the end of Bitter Harvest, Taimi asks everyone to not tell Rata Sum about her and Novus, because she wants to study the databanks and not get “Phlunted” again. In the open world, the only individuals at Rata Novus are Whisper agents, who also would want to study first before others get there.
  1. Other than the above two groups (Commander’s buddies and Whispers) the only groups to know of Novus is the Exalted and Nuhoch. Nuhoch see the place as abandoned and a place of death – they have no reasons to begin discussions about it; the Exalted also didn’t bother talking about it until it became relevant.
  • Didn’t Taimi at one point state that she learnt about the Novus Crew before? or at least read about it.

Taimi: Novus? Novus! Eureka! Do you know what this means? Do you? By Gadd, we’ve found it! Are they here now?
….
Taimi: The legendary lost city. What are we waiting for? We should have been there already!
Taimi: We could find data, magitech, or allies there that could help fight Mordremoth!

  • I don’t think a Legendary City is something she came up with on the spot.
  • P.S. Just read into it again and of course it’s logical for the groups you mentioned to be the only ones to know of the location of Rata Novus besides it existence. I’m just dumb. ^^

Even Caithe’s visits might have been hallucinations caused from sleep deprivations and solitude – anyone who’s read/seen the Shining know that prolonged isolation can make Jack a (not so) boring boy.

  • “All work and no rest put Taimi’s sanity to the test.” ? just kidding.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

With these kind of QoL-updates I expect players to be happy for a while and then say “Ugh Combat REALLY feels like a drag now” because the movement speed is 50% less than the out-of combat speed.
Or people would eventually get used to the 125% movement speed and then ask for another +25%.

  • Symbol of Swiftness on staff grants damage and swiftness.
  • Symbol of Energy burns and grants vigor. (This is one I often switch the offensive/defensive use of.)
  • Symbol of Faith damages and rants Regen
  • Symbol of Wrath grants retaliation to allies and damages foes.

You said symbols are defensive or offensive of nature but I find this to often not be the cause.

oh look another one of these threads.

Yep that’s just what I was thinking. He needs to learn to leave ANet to the writing, they really don’t need his help.

I’m autistic, why is there no NPC to showcase my “struggles”?
I want a Sylvari NPC who prefers to live in solitude because others simply don’t seem to act logically in all situations.
I want this NPC to be presented well though, preferebly to be made a part of the biconics because this is all really important and affects a lot of players!

To the OP:
I’m honestly sorry Smooth Penguin.
I may be making fun of all this but in my honest opinion I’m just tired of all these threads.
It’s nothing personal but you just begin to appear as a troll to me.
Every week a new thread like this pops up:

  • “X” is being discriminated because “Y”!
  • “X” is great and should be represented more.
  • Why isn’t there more love for "X"s and "Y"s?

Representation is fine, but representation due to the clear indication of “why” this is represented is much alike putting the subject on a pedestal.
Instead of leading towards acceptance you’ll create exceptions and draw attention to these.

I am sorry if I’ve offended you or anyone else of the LGBTQQIA+ community. (or any other minorities for that matter.)
I’m not trying to create an argument or offend anyone but I hope you can understand that there will always be some minority that isn’t represented or somehow misrepresented.

I just want to know as a final question to you, Smooth penguin:
Why do you open all these topics?

  • Do you really hope for equality and acceptance?
  • Do you really feel Guild Wars 2 is so offensive to those who aren’t represented?

Weapon designs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nero.8047

Nero.8047

Indeed, there are plenty of big ridiculous hammers, as there are a fair few big and ridiculous skins for just about any weapon type. Personally I’d prefer the exact opposite of what you’re suggesting, more trimmed down weapons that could pass for something semi-realistic. Don’t underestimate, as you put it, “a tiny little rock on the end of a stick” when that rock has the proper balance behind it.

As far as the longbow suggestion goes, I’m all for more options. The crossbow idea, however, would have complications in the form of the animations. Maybe make it a rifle skin with a unique sound instead?

More trimmed down? Are you kidding? Have you even looked at the basic weapon skins? You can’t get more trimmed down than that and still be able to recognize most of those weapon types

More trimmed down as in not being so huge.
The Lightward Battlehammer is “trimmed down” not because of its details but because of its size.

The Basic weapon designs for Hammer are indeed not too ornate/intricate in their designs but they’re still huge. It’s a giant box of solid steel on a thick wooden stick.

Not all players like realistic weapon designs but for those who do the Hammer doesn’t provide a lot of options.

Larger hammerhead =/= better hammer, just heavier/more unwieldy.

To counter the larger hammerhead the character doesn’t have to be stronger but heavier. (or they’ll fling themselves after their hammers with each and every swing which would look… comically. Largely due to Physics (although “fantasy physics” arguments often challenge this yet don’t work because that’s not really how Physics work, especially in relation to other happenings in Tyria such as gravity.))

A smaller head, a maneuverable size and weight would prove far more dangerous compared to the Basic Hammer or just about any other Hammer skin currently in-game.
Remember why a sword cuts? Because it has a decent weight behind it and a very thing edge.
A hammer works a bit in this fashion as well. (although obviously too broad/wide/thick to cut) A smaller Hammerhead focusses all the energy of the blow on a small portion of the hammerhead. (which is why spiked hammers/warpicks can be quite scary!)
A huge hammerhead, although heavier, would not deal as much damage because the force applied to the opponent would be spread along a larger surface.

What would happen if that Earthshaker Warrior struck the ground with his huge hammer?

  1. It would be a slow but decent “thud”.
  2. The “recipient” will have easily avoided such a telegraphed attack.
  3. The warrior would, realistically, have to switch to his off-hand weapon set because lifting a hammer like that mid-combat will most certainly get you killed.

Disclaimer:
As said before:
It’s a fantasy game, people like their flashy designs and in all honesty the game provides a lot of these!
I’d personally just like more options that I, and other players sharing my mindset, would be comfortable using besides the Lightward Battlehammer.

Crossbow skins wouldn’t work at all, because the animation would have to be completely different. They’d have to make not only the crossbow skin, but at least one new animation, and tech to hook up that animation to the skin instead of the character.

Don’t underestimate the skil/effort of Anet. They put in that same effort/skill for the current sling Shortbow skin. I see no difference for crossbows tbh.

Are you being sacrastic?
I’m fairly certain the sling simply uses the old shortbow animation.

Nero.8047

The notion of Rata Novans – while possible – seems odd. They randomly decide to return after 100 years of abandonment? Why?

I’m with Goldfox here, not how there are no asura corpses in Rata Novus.
They could’ve been taken away by the Chak but I’d rather think they simply fled.

There’d be no corpses, only skeletons, after 100 years of being dead.

If the bodies weren’t eaten by chak. I mean, did we ever check chak poop?

You make a fair point for the return of the Novans.
I was indeed referring to the skeletons as “corpses”, I haven’t seen any Asuran bones in Rata Novus.

A-net has a fair bit of ways to claim the Chak have discarded of the bones though.

  • Chak Acid, we’ve seen it melt a lot, I presume it’s able to “melt” bone.
  • Bones could’ve been dragged away, I presume the Chak make their hives and nests entirely out of their spit/acid but it could certainly be possible to find some bones in that mixture.
  • They’re bones! A decent source for calcium, magnesium phosphorus and potassium! The Chak are organisms and they could very well have consumed the bones to strengthen their exoskeleton-Chitin.

TL;DR I got swept up by a baseless theory and although similar events are possible they could also easily be disproven. The only real remaining option is to simply await the next lore-entry or LS3.

Looking for current Leveling Build (@lvl 55+)

in Guardian

Posted by: Nero.8047

Nero.8047

Noone replied because during the levelling process just about anything works. :/

I’d give you the following suggestion if you’re still looking for one.

Spec 1: Virtues. (Can be specced either offensively or defensively with more hp, stab etc.)
Spec 2: Zeal. (Guardians’ damage is quite low this will help beef it up a bit.)

Spec 3: Valor or Honor. (this choice depends on if you prefer playing fully solo or in group content, if you like playing with Symbols/hammer or if you prefer Greatsword as your DPS source. Just read some of the traits and I’m sure you’ll find something you like or dislike. Hundreds of people could tell you what specs to pick but it’ll end up mostly useless if you don’t know what your specs do.

For weapons:
1. Greatsword – good bursty DPS option.
2. Hammer – if specced for, decent DPS, protection spam, has good CC/control but feels a bit slow.
3. Mace. decent dps + symbol + block.
4. Scepter for ranged combat.
5. Torch (most DPS melee off-hand)

if you want a more defensive off-hand paired with your mace:

6. Focus, likely the best personal defense you’ll get. (note: you can cast the shield of skill 5 and then swap out your focus for another weapon and the shield will remain.)
7. Shield: if playing with a team who could use on-demand aegis or projectile defense.

Gl, if there’s anything you’d like more detailed instead of this quick summing up just PM me in-game. ^^

New Eternity skin?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nero.8047

Nero.8047

I know this concept art has been posted few times but was there any closure on the chance of it happening?

Maybe account bound upgrade on mystic forge and call it Infinity.

Do note that although it is beautiful, it isn’t an official Concept Art for Eternity.
This design was fan-made, the artist said to himself: “I’d love this instead of the Sunrise at day, Twilight at night version.” and many agreed.

Arenanet hasn’t stated they were going to put this in-game nor are they likely to.
Although many players, even those with the current Eternity, like this skin. Many also like their current Eternity.

Getting this skin in-game would need either:

  • A poll where you somehow have to get all the Eternity-owners to vote because it’d be meaningless to have non-Eternity-owners decide on a skin which Eternity-owners have.
  • A toggle, which is a “compromise” answer for many players and COULD work but is rather dubious. Perhaps one day the wardrobe will contain a “Variant” section where you can change your weapon into a 2nd or 3rd variant. “A black rapier” for Bonetti’s or This mixture-Eternity for Eternity etc. (something like a Wardrobe version of “dye’ing” weaponry/customizing its appearance without affecting its “shape”.)

Lore Q&A

Hello I have just a few questions regarding the Sylvari.

1.)Are Sylvari glowing naturally and do they have control about it, does their “glow” depend on their mood? Are Sylvari glowing if they are blushing?

2)How does a Sylvari become a Warden, and how do they teach them. We know about Tegwen. She was mentored by Trahearne and became a Warden to guard Hamlet of Annwen. She later met Carys and began mentoring her. Is this the usual way of becoming a Warden?

Thanks

A sylvari’s glow is bioluminescence As far as I’m aware the glow does not depend on mood and rather on the intake of light (and other nourishment) during the day, processing of energy and emitting this energy during the night as light, it is quite possible that Sylvari glow during the day as well but having it simply not be visible due to the lack of contrast. (enter a cave during the day and a Sylvari glows.)
this might help you out a bit more.

These are just my thoughts though. not too factual.

How many elder dragons need to die before the Tengu stop afking in Dominion of Winds?

  • Can’t answer this one :P

Maybe the Deep Sea dragon will cause trouble for them?

  • The Elder Dragon who has shown the most activity around/near/in the Dominion of Winds is Primordus with his Destroyers. It’s likely this will be the trigger. (if anything.)

I remember seeing some Tengu in Auric Basin near Tarir.

  • Tengu are funny in that they live int tribes, the Tengu you meet in Auric Basin are Quetzal, the Tengu in the Dominion of Winds are most likely Angchu Tengu which originally came from Cantha under leadership of Talon Silverwing. The Quetzal and Angchu likely have even less contact than the Central Tyrian humans have with well.. the Canthans for example.

Maybe the Tengu have a solution to the current Anomaly problem we are facing right now and they become important in LS3…

  • Possible but nothing suggests they could have any knowledge on Ley-lines and their anomalies.

None of these have an answer yet, I know. I just want to see what people thing of Tengu right now.

  • Oh, I likely should have read this first… anyhow… yea.

The Scepter deals superior damage versus large hitboxes + inanimate objects though.
+ it allows for an off-hand.

I always pick Scepter over Longbow myself.

What is the Deep Sea Dragon's Name?

  1. We’ve already known the name starts wth an S.
  2. The link you’ve sent doesn’t provide the names of the currently known Guild Wars 2 Elder Dragons (Zhaitan, Mordremoth, Jormag, Primordus) so it has zero credibility to provide the name of the still unknown Deep Sea Dragon.
  3. You necro’d a 1 year old thread to add a futile post. (imho)

Now I’m not saying I don’t appreciate your effort of finding a suitable name for the DSD, I just can’t get behind this.

So is this leading to new living story??

Most assuredly, or I suppose to be safe “most likely” yes.
Although I can’t currently recall an official word on this leading up to the LS3, there has been no dev to shoot the connection down either. (Something they’d possibly wish to do if all these developments lead to something else.)

TL;DR:

Yes, this will most likely lead up to the Third Living Story.

It happens to the bigger races. (Charr + Norn).
It’s been happening for a while now (read more than a year at least.) and it’s quite annoying indeed.

My advice is sadly:
Don’t expect a change too easily.
Guardians are the cynics of GW2 when it comes to profession balance with good reason.

Xpac 2: what could replace DH/Longbow?

With that said I think something that can work with holy magic and for an elite summon angels (non-NPCs) that do damage to enemies and heal allies.

The warhorn would be because angels use trumpets so it has that holy niche too.

Angels would currently be unbefitting of GW-lore.
The closest we’ve had aesthetically to angels is the appearance of the Paragon.
It is strange how the term “Angel” is used in skill names (Angelic Bond) or for NPC’s (Fallen Angels) but a creature with an angelic appearance and the name “Angel” would be quite new.

  • The closest lore it would fit-in with is human lore regarding the Gods, Dwayna especially. (Charr and Asura culture would clash HARD with angels.)
  • If Angels are to be befitting of Tyrian lore, one would assume they’d have been mentioned before by priests or simple devout citizens.

As I see it now “Angel” is only used as a form of describing something considered Angelic.

For the Fallen Angel case:

  • Seraph → Angelic appearance with their polished shiny armour and winged details
  • Fallen Seraph → Fallen Angel

If anything, Dwayna is the closest you’ll get to an Angel in both appearance and status.

Why is it not a “landspear”?
Simply based on skin?

A Glaive is mainly used for cutting/slashing.
A Spear is used for stabbing.
A Polearm is a vague term which could refer to both really. <— my wording of choice. + it was already more-or-less developed pre-launch yet scrapped for unknown reasons.

“This weapon was included in early development stages but didn’t make it in the final cut of the game, though it may make an appearance later.

I think that means that the White Mantle/Seperatist is going for the lower classes?

I mean that would certainly mean: Slay the Blade , because I don’t know what Stay the Blade is supposed to mean.

Though it could actually be a peace message, like Sheet the Blade and the writer just couldn’t remember the right word anymore and Stay was just fitting.

The 2nd New-Krytan character is a T, I can guarantee it’s not an L.

As said above: “Stay the Blade” is basically telling the Shining Blade to refrain from meddling into affairs in two ways:

  1. Blade referring to the Shining Blade which should keep their distance from the political affairs.
  2. Blade referring to the Shining Blade’s weaponry which they should not draw in order to keep their distance.

It just sounds better than:
“Hey Shining Blade, stay away from our affairs both in political and combat-related situations!”

I have seen this one yet no others.
I’ll continue to look around.

These posters (both those which are interactable and those which aren’t.) are lovely additions to the game. Hearing the voices of Tyrians (even if they are White-Mantle related imposters) is great. I especially loved the bit where one poster said “Snake-men” instead of Krait. Not all Tyrians are bound to know all species by name as if they were biologists/anthropologists.

This was my original GW2 Paragon write-up:

@ Yannir

You can always add more versatility to the spear by making it both close-combat and ranged combat, both offensive and defensive, both condition and power.

I believe for a weapon that has the ideal intention of sustain, a balanced aproach like this is wonderful.
For the range, we’ve seen how this can work on the underwater revenant to name an example.
I’d just like to see a Guardian throw a spear in a javelin-fashion -> use the gap-closer you were talking about -> use the AA-Chain and block when needed.

Adding both types of range to the weapon also improves the defensive/offensive balance.
In most situations you might expect that stacking + melee zerk-burning will remain. But we’ll never know what direction the game will take. We know what amazing things our new AI-Devs have brought to the table in HoT compared to the original release.
This is only the beginning. Actively switching between closed-combat/ranged and offensive/defensive may be just the thing we’d need in the future and a balanced polearm/spear would be exactly the weapon to fill that role.

The only part where I’m torn is my suggested power/condi balance in 1 weapon.
Seeing to both will likely result in not being great in either. I’d like to suggest making the spear mostly a condition weapon as well then.

For the elite specialization regarding this I’d also support a throwback to the old Paragons.
Chants, Anthems and Shouts can all find a way to work themselves in our role well.
Paragon-like gameplay will be able to shine well in GW2.

I used to play a Paragon in GW1 ever since Nightfall was released.
I was made fun of in solo- and praised in group-content.
This was mainly due to the mechanic of the Leadership attribute which caused you to need allies to fuel your energy. There is no need to go down this same road again in GW2.
A GW2-Paragon may be alright in solo- but shine in group-content.
An example of this could be by adding utilities like the chants/anthems.
These are utility skills that affect multiple allies. You can use them for yourself, they work just as well. But if you had any allies around you it would support them.

an example skill:
“Anthem of Flame”
GW1 Veterans will know it:

  • Chant. For 10 seconds, the next attack skill used by each party member within earshot also causes Burning for 1…3…3 second[s].

This skill works in solo content, you get a nice burn out of it. but in group content the burn would be applied by multiple party-members.
In GW2 it could work the same way but with updated terminology.
Imagine having a decent burn by use of this chant. alright great.
Now imagine stacking this burn with 5 or even 10 allies in a 1200 radius.
This is likely way too much but it’s just to imagine the possibilities.

A Guild Wars 2 Paragon supports group-playing, it adds a valuable role which is in high demand: An offensive party-wide buffer which could also work defensively combined with its own DPS source.
We know how great the Ranger’s spirits or the Warrior’s banners are, there is no need for our Guardians, to not buff their supportive capabilities in a similar fashion with chants and anthems.

Note: Chants/Anthems aren’t boons.
Guardians have seen a lot of hate with the introduction of all the boon corrupting on Revenants, Mesmers and Necromancers. Chants/Anthems can not be removed by anti-boon spells.

Another great mechanic is the echo system.

As a Guardian we currently have our 3 virtues.
Virtue of Justice – Damage + burning – Offensive.
Virtue of Resolve – Healing (+ damage/movement if DH) – Utility + Defensive.
Virtue of Courage – Block – Defensive.

I believe the virtues could easily become Echoes.
Echo of Justice (GW1: Blazing Finale) –
Passive: Allies inflict burning whenever a Chant or Anthem ends. (weak burning)
Active: Throw a blazing spear at the target foe, burning it and enemies surrounding it.
Echo of Resolve (Finale of Restoration) –
Passive: Allies are healed whenever a Chant or Anthem ends.
Active: (GW1: “Help me!”) Heals are 50% more effective on you for 10 seconds and you’re healed for a small amount.
Echo of Courage
Passive: Allies gain Retaliation whenever a Chant or Anthem ends.
Active: Allies gain 2 stacks of Aegis. (OP?)

The reason why I gave the Echo of Courage an active effect of giving Aegis is because I really appreciate the on-demand Aegis found in “Retreat!”. Many of us agree however that this skill is very outdated with its small benefit and long recharge.
The Echo of Courage would have an even longer recharge if it follows the example of its virtue-counterparts and as such I saw it fit to buff the active.

A 4th bonus to counter a condi-meta:
Echo of Purity
Passive: Allies will have 1 condition removed whenever a Chant or Anthem ends.
Active: Gain Resistance and remove 2 conditions.

I’d love to once again become a motivating presence on the battlefield shouting phrases such as: “There’s nothing to fear!”, “Never surrender!” and especially “Never give up!”

Utility skill suggestions I’d love to see returned, modified or introducted for GW2:

Skill type: Altruism
Skills that affect only 1 other ally instead of yourself. Bringing this will be a great help for someone else in your party, but you won’t directly get any benefit from it. Unless perhaps traited otherwise.

Angelic Bond

  • A chant/anthem that lasts for 10 seconds, if during the duration of this skill an ally affected by the chant/anthem were to receive fatal damage, the damage is negated, the target is healed and this effect ends on all other allies.

Leader’s Comfort (Heal)

  • You gain health, you gain additional health for each ally within range.

“Make Haste!”

  • Altruism – Target ally gains quickness and superspeed.

Holy Spear (off topic: my favourite spear-attack in GW1)

  • Throw a spear a spear at your foe and deal extra damage + burning if certain conditions are met.

In GW1 this condition was: If your target is undead and was later changed to: if it’s a summoned creature. I would however like to revise this skill once again for GW2.
In GW1 Holy Damage could not be blocked. I’d like to see the Holy Spear become a skill that punishes bunkers/blockers.

Throwing the spear would be a small burn if thrown randomly.
Throwing the spear at a blocking target would make it go through the block, damage, burn and perhaps even knock the target back a small bit.
Really OP? yes, but you have to use this skill at JUST the right time + consider it valuable enough to bring it with you in the first place. if you don’t time it correctly you’re basically throwing a tiny spark of burning damage.

Spear Swipe

  • Physical skill – Smack your enemy on the head with your spear. launching them.

Enduring Harmony

  • Altruism – Chants and Shouts last 50% longer on target ally.

Burning Shield

  • Physical skill – Assume a defensive stance and block the next attack, if blocked you unleash a fiery burst.

Cautery Signet (“Save Yourselves!”)

  • Passive: Remove a condition every 10 seconds.
Active: You draw all the conditions of allies within range to yourself and add burning to yourself for each condition.

The passive effect isn’t new, there’s Signet of Resolve with the shared effect. These two will however work together.
The active will cause you to receive a condition spike in many situations so you’d have to be prepared with resistance or condition-removals.

“You only live once!”

  • Altruism – Target ally is revived when downed.
    (Sorry I had to.)

This was all written without any preparation and should thus be taken with the mother of all grains of salt. I am mainly here to support the Paragon Elite Specialization.

from: this elite-spec brainstorm thread.

I must say I’ve changed my mind on utility skills at least and would rather see Anthem-like skills made to affect multiple allies but which can still be used in a solo setting.

Solo setting: okay-ish skill.
Party setting: point where the skill shines because the effect is spread to multiple allies.

Without an energy system such as the one shown in GW1 you could use anthems in a solo setting without becoming that “useless” class which only drains itself of energy. Such as my Paragon was oft. to become in GW1.

Otherwise an energy system along the lines of a revenant could work as well for a Paragon elite spec.
