Why do you think thieves only have a single ‘one trick pony’ build? Thieves can also be seen miles away, unless your up against a thief that blows all his/her utilities and initiative before even engaging…

I thought sword/dagger (evasion) and dagger/pistol (trickery) builds were the thief meta currently? both do not spam stealth.. and both do not do 13k backstabs…

What is my counterplay to backstab? Double dodge roll in the opposite direction I last saw the teef and pray he runs out of stealth? As an ele, it is extremely hard to kill a d/p teef because of the blinds and the atleast 50% stealth uptime and the window in which i can kill them is about 45 seconds before refuge comes back up. All the while I pray that backstab wont crit me and ONLY do 5k-6k damage.
Double dodging and praying isn’t a very good way to fight a thief…
As a d/d ele, don’t dodge at all. estimate how long the thief will take to reach you and turn and face them, autoattacking in air the whole time. if you manage to make them facestab you and you land 2 or so autoattacks, you will end up taking a bigger chunk out of their health than they do yours. Follow that on with air 5 -> fire 3 -> fire 4 -> etc. and burst them. if they shadowstep away, get into water and heal back up or follow them with an earth 4 -> lightening flash. D/D eles are actually a hard matchup for backstab thieves. the AOE 360 range autoattacks hurt alot and the number of soft and hard CCs you have access to…. you shouldnt be having problems with backstab thieves.
If you start running before the fight even starts, why are you surprised that you lost?

ALL thieves counter eles. Telling me to auto attack spam and heal up is pointless. Also lf+eq is countered by 1 stunbreaker or evade. I dont think you play this class much.

I wouldnt take that crap even if stone heart worked in all attunements. 30 earth is just not power friendly. Condi ele is crap because we only have access to bleed and burning and is only good in dueling vs certain classes.

there is counterplay to kill shot, eviscerate, life blast, churning earth, phoenix, volley, dragons tooth. What is my counterplay to backstab? idk why u talk little about s/d and s/f conjure as choices. As far as I am concerned, S/D might stacking lh is still the single highest damage across all classes. Second to that would be staff elementalist just in terms of supplying group with perma 9 stacks of might.

if the only time u are getting seriously beaten is to other eles, you’re fighting trashcans. Eles have significant disadvantage vs mesmers thieves warriors and engineers and certain builds can completely lock us out of matches completely. Also your build calls for windborne dagger which is useless considering the size of tpvp maps. Perma vigor is 100% better.

1- I’ve never played d/d ele, only staff ele and even zele aka not support if you’re familiar with VR and Duke’s zelex :P so basically it’s nuke em !
2- I need a build that’s good for roaming in WvW, as I don’t like spvp nor tpvp
3- I’ve classes that I roam with so I’m familiar with other classes actions and reactions and you know basic how to roam etc
4- just need a training wheel build that’s forgiving and allow some mistakes till I stand on my feet
5- is d/d the way to go ? what about s/fSorry too many questions .. or please refer me to a bunker/training wheel build that still viable !

traits seem decent. I recommend elemental shielding over stone splinters but both are viable. Clerics is bad with signet because the healing power multiplier for signet doesnt scale well. Your crit chance is also extremely low and even when running zephyrs boon it is far too low (aim for 25% ATLEAST). Swap some of the clerics for knights and you have yourself a build. Staff roaming isn’t viable because of the lack of mobility/protection and the fact that the majority of the damage is ground targetting(easily avoidable). Roaming should have dagger offhand minimum for rtl and seeing as how crit damage got nerfed, fresh air isnt that viable anymore. D/d is the way to go.

Nice arbitrary example and people dont make legendaries for the stats… I made 2 before they were bumped up to ascended. Lets get it straight legendaries are for the skins and having made 2 and equipped 2 =u got shafted to kitten compared to others who can now have your look for less work. No point

you say they lose nothing but they gain less compared to others. The argument im trying to make is that it doesn’t matter if these are just skins they still cost a ridiculous amount of gold or take a ridiculous amount of time to acquire and the fact that no one will know now how hard you worked compared to others that have worked less for one is not acceptable. Its like the only reason u wanna argue is because you can buy a legendary and technically dont have to work for one. Is it too pay to win to give titles for something you can buy?

I know tons of people have more than one of same legendary one hander(2x bolt. 2x quip 2x incinerator etc…). With regard to the legendary update, would it make sense to supply titles to those who have gone and crafted 2 just to set them apart from those who can now have 2 shown for the price of one? Not to feel entitled in any sense of the word but just as a sentiment to those who have dedicated time and gold to this goal. It seems like a straightforward implementation.
TL;DR give people who have equipped 2x bolt/quip/incinerator/moot/frostfang a distinct title

perhaps a decent change would be to increase it from kittens to infinite hits? (all spells cast within 5 seconds are guaranteed crit). I do not think it will be that op considering the time duration is relatively short and cd long.

I dont understand why whenever the argument of race change comes up, people say its unfair because the new 80 will have really good gear and its not fair for new players? This does not make any sense to me seeing as how you already were level 80 and you already worked your kitten off for ALL that op gear… It’s not like anet is becoming pay to win if you want to change something completely aesthetic about your character.

Both the Guardian and Elementalist bunker down better than the Warrior imo but we don’t see any complaints about their passive healing, protection spam, etc.
thats because if we bunker, our damage is kitten poor. Warriors can run this as well as insane cc/damage with weapons such as hambow and condi (s/s lb)

I just whipped this guide up real fast… the go-to pve guide that I use and countless other high end pve eles use. It might be changed a bit due to the recent trait swaps but this is still extremely comfortable playstyle.

I still feel as if some legendaries are lackluster in the regards of visual prowess not being suitable for a weapon that takes such a large span of time and patience to acquire. I have noticed a lot of legendaries have auras or full character effects that enhance the user such as bifrost aura and predator fire-ish aura. Why cant all 1h and 2h legendaries have such an aura? I feel as if frostfang, incinerator, minstre, meteorlogicus and others deserve a full character aura. Just because these legendaries are 1h does not mean that less effort was put into creating them…

It seems that people are saying ANET is lazy/incompetent because they would rather not re-write the entire game code while it is too hard to use a character slot to level up a preferred race. Am I missing something?

I would be willing to pay several thousand gems for a race change. I do feel like the only issues needed to be addressed would be personal story wipe (complete redo) as well as all cultural armor either destroyed or converted over. Considering the lack of limitations we have to things such as sex change, appearance change, hair style change and name change I don’t see how people would be opposed to this.
The argument that we should just restart the thousands of hours we’ve spent on our individual character is pretty arbitrary. After spending many hours, I’ve found that some race restricted abilities would compliment my build and that is the reason I want to race change.

My suggestion is pretty simple. I propose that we revamp signet of air and water each in a significant way making them significantly more viable for all weapon styles be it s/d d/d staff or focus. As of right now the 2 utilities read:
-Signet of Water
Passive: Cures a condition every ten seconds.
Active: Chill your foe.
Chilled.png Chilled: 4 s
Damage Damage: 122
Range.png Range: 1,200
The main issue with this signet is the condition cleanse is not significant enough to be taken because condi cleanse is only used in high pressure situations when 1 condi cleanse every 10 seconds doesnt cut it. What I think should be changed is the on activate effect. The cc and damage seem unviable and lacking in potential. A much better approach to the activate would be a condi to boon conversion. This might warrant a cooldown increase from 30 seconds to 45-60 but I feel that having additional condi cleanse is never a bad thing and will make it more viable in todays condi based meta.

So for this signet, the passive is pretty lackluster seeing as staff switching and elemental are so widely used. I however, feel the real issue lies with the activate again. The damage is mediocre and the aoe blind seems to be counter-intuitive to the whole style of elementalist nowadays focusing on vigor stacking instead of blind spamming. A much better alternative would be a 2 second knock back similar to that of updraft. I feel this will play into both burst and defense builds through all weapon combinations. Elementalist burst with s/d and d/d rely strongly on updraft fire combinations to land maximum blast finishers in fire fields. This gives us a little wiggle room on the already 40 SECOND CD of updraft (about the most unforgiving spell we have). It also plays into the defense of staff and focus eles who are on the retreat and trying to kite. Lets be real, above anything it’s classes that stack damage and stability that are the bane of elementalists ie: Warriors Guardians Thieves. This change may require a nerf on the cooldown from 30 seconds to 45-60 or a removal of the stun break but I still feel it would be worth it to bring some diversity into todays ele builds.
tl;dr – change signet of water on activate to condi-boon conversion with an increase in cooldown and change signet of air on activate to 2 second knock back similar in stature to updraft with a slight nerf to cooldown or removal of stun break.
All feedback is appreciated and if you have your own ideas on how you think these signets can be revamped, please feel free to post below.

I personally run fgs. Although, conjures as a whole limit our skill pool to 5+ utilities instead of 20+ utilities. Conjures in general are counter to the whole dynamic design of an elementalist and the pure versatility we are known for… The conjure is decent but the cooldown is so high that it is only viable one out of every 10 fights.

At this point, am I the only person that would just rather have the option to run a 4th utility skill such as 2 cantrips/ 2 arcane spells over 3 utility and 1 elite? I thought elite skills were suppose to be superior to utilities yet every time I plan a build I would much rather run 3 cantrips 1 arcana or some combination of utilities. Why not give us a flat out buff such as:

some minor things i noticed, now dodging for fire and earth combo for might, the area seems to have been reduced a little, so i need to dodge earth very carefully into the right area.
Aura’s , if u run auramancers,etc….the change to affix on team mates 1st then pugs is a nice change but not very clear in zerg fights.

I think evasive arcana should be moved to either passive(no trait required) or dropped to 10/20 field. Mandatory dps 30 arcana is a little drastic. Ele has got to be the least cookie cutter of any class since all support run 30 water for cleansing water and all dps run 30 arcana for evasive arcana.

I personally use a variation of it but the premise is pretty much the same. You stack might using blast finishers and aoe fire spells to 25 then pop lightning hammer/(fgs if not on cd) and just go to town. Staff support is also highly regarded but i feel guardians are more heavily favored over support eles. Simple s/d s/f and d/d builds are also optional but less damage(more fun).

So as of right now, Conjure skills fit in utility and elite slots and limit our skill use to only the 5 given with the particular conjure, and the 4 remaining utilities substantially hindering elementalist ability to be as versatile as the class is suppose to be. My idea is that we have conjures completely replace the 5 initial skills in their corresponding attunement:
earth shield=earth
ice bow=water
lightning hammer=air
fiery greatsword=fire
Of course, there will have to be subtle nerfs in damage and capability but I think this will give a lot more diversity in terms of wvw builds, tpvp builds and general pve builds.
The rework would involve selecting the conjure utility or elite and it would simply replace the attunement spells that go along with the conjure selected as stated above. Whenever you would then enter that attunement, you would get the visual of the weapon conjured along with the spells and moves that are available with each conjure as of right now until switching attunements. There will hence, be no charge on the weapons making them completely sustainable. It would work exactly the same as any standard weapon combination except the added graphical effects of wielding the weapon each time you swap and the spell changes.

I play s/d semi glassy(power/vit/crit) and it’s a pretty good hybrid for bunker/glassy. I have 20k life and about 3/4 the burst potential full out glass cannon eles do. I prefer the 4-5k extra hp for tanking the 12k backstabs thieves do.. I might try out scepter/focus condi ele soon I heard that was good as well and condi is the meta for right now

How about making it an aura? Just knocks everything around you, deals some damage, gives you stability and reflects projectiles? And we keep our abilities and attunement swap. That way we don’t have to swap our 20 weapon skills, heal and 3 utilities for 3 terrible transformation abilities.
As much as I love this idea, having an 18 second stability seems a little TOO extreme even though we eles know we need it.
