The actual finisher is what makes the finishers unique. As I’m sure you’re aware, every 10 levels you unlock a new finisher. They are: Rabbit, Deer, Dolyak, Wolf, Tiger, Bear, Shark, Phoenix and Dragon. I know you can’t take everything you read on the wiki page as absolute fact, but I did find it rather odd that the Rank page goes up to Rank 110 (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rank), isn’t 80 the highest PvP rank?

Also, they aren’t really executions so to speak. While it would be a nice addition for them to add unique weapon executions, I find that the finisher animations are rewarding enough.

Anyone- other than Dust Bunny lol -care to elaborate as to why PvP should not award EXP? As for “skipping content”, I think this point is moot considering: if a player wants to go back and clear PvE zones nothing is stopping them (the level scaling system even keeps things challenging), and EXP in PvP gives the player the choice to “skip content” and allows them to level doing the things they like.

Would you guys be so upset with a system that allowed you transfer glory into EXP?

I already did elaborate in both of my posts as to why PvP should not award PvE xp. I’d recommend reading my posts above.

No reason sPvP shouldn’t give a small amount of XP imo. Everything else in this game does, and I don’t know of any modern MMOs that cut XP out of instanced PvP (except this one).

Yes there is plenty of reasons as to why this game should not reward PvE xp for playing sPvP. As I mentioned above, please reread my two posts.

I for one don’t particularly understand the player who literally only plays PvP in this massive game (or any game for that matter). You certainly do miss out on a lot of the game, but to each his own.

Here is another argument on how this idea would not work whatsoever. Obviously by this post you are clearly okay with earning PvE xp while playing the PvP aspect of the game, yes? I ask you this, where do you draw the line? As an example, what if I wanted to earn PvP xp from playing PvE? Seems rather silly doesn’t it? It’s the same premise as your idea, just reversed.

I believe this is a clear enough example as to why this idea would not work. Why is it okay for you to earn PvE xp while PvPing but not okay for me to earn PvP xp while PvE-ing?

What’s next, why can’t I earn dungeon tokens while PvPing?

Accidentally destroyed PvP Water Filter

It’s certainly annoying that this item can be destroyed, I agree. This item should not have the destroy option at all considering their is no way to replace it.

…the only fix currently for it is to create another character. If this character was specifically for PvP, you won’t lose anything. Just make sure to bank anything you do want to keep. If you also happen to use this character for PVE then you can still create another character that would be specifically for PvP until ArenaNet creates some sort of real fix for this problem.

I honestly had no legitimate reason to destroy this item. However, ArenaNet has done a great job with their game and it never once occurred to me that I wouldn’t be able to replace this item.

I already pointed out how you can resolve this issue yourself. I even quoted myself to reiterate how to resolve this as well as restating that I believe this item should not have the ability to be destroyed in the first place. As you said, you had no reason for destroying it so the fault clearly falls upon you, doesn’t it?

To say it once again, create a new character and you will have your water filter once again until ArenaNet implements a true fix for this issue.

I really like how ArenaNet decided to make PvP xp (glory) completely separate from PvE xp. If your friends want to go through some of the dungeons then I recommend that they play some PvE to start leveling, or better yet start playing WvW as that does reward standard xp.

As for your statement that there are no benefit to PvPing because of the fact that you cannot wear your PvP gear in the capital cities… that’s the entire point of keeping the two modes separated! Are you also suggesting that I should be able to wear my high end dungeon gear in PvP right from the start? If that were the case then yes, there would be no point to PvP if I could use my already earned gear from PvE.

What about earning the high end finishers from PvP? Aren’t those something to strive for?

Here are some ideas that I think would work.

Team Deathmatch
- Self explanatory, this could easily work and it would be a nice change of pace from conquest over and over.

Free for all Deathmatch
- This could be all sorts of fun if you ask me, especially in a massive 16 player free for all match. Granted, it could get severely annoying if multiple people from a guild join and ‘team up’ so to speak.. and because of that, this mode may not work at all.

Capture the flag (my personal favorite)
- This could actually have a couple variations. The standard 2-flag CTF where you have to capture your enemies flag and can only score if your flag is safe in your base. Another CTF mode that could work well with this game would be a single neutral flag in the center of the map that needs to be captured.

In order for CTF to work well they’d have to make sure that any teleports / portals, etc would force that flag carrier to drop the flag (at least in my opinion).

King of the hill
- This would work similar to what we have now with conquest mode, except the difference would be that only 1 of the 3 points would be active at a time and that it would rotate at certain intervals.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, and yes I’m aware they are pretty general PvP gametypes but I still feel they could all potentially work rather well. After all, wouldn’t more gametypes make PvP infinitely more interesting then playing the same one over and over?

extracting
copper chests = orbs only
silver chests = orbs or shards
gold chests = shards or slivers

copper = low tier items, can only extract orbs
silver = low/mid tier items, mid tier can extract orbs or shards
gold = low/mid/high + extra tier items, high tier can extract shards or slivers, extra tier extracts sliver

crafting
orbs -> low tier -> crits into mid tier
shards -> mid tier -> crits into high tier
sliver -> high tier -> crits into extra tier

This isn’t necessarily true. I tend to only buy silver chests and I get a decent amount of slivers out of them (in fact I obtained 3 slivers earlier today from a silver chest so it certainly still works with the latest patch).

The reason I buy silvers over gold is not only because you can get 2 silvers for the price of 1 gold, but also because the gold chests seem to only give me an unidentified dye (which I could care less about) and 3-4 salvageable items that rarely give me slivers anyway. Silver chests tend to give me 4-6 salvageable items consistently.

It has been a month since this was reported, still don’t have a reply from Anet

Missing here as well, guess it’s the same for everyone. Maybe they just don’t want anyone walking around with a weapon that deals fire damage in PVP.

I know that bumping posts is frowned upon, however I do bring some new information on this issue.

I opened a ticket with ArenaNet in hopes to figure out the problem and finally did get a response. They said:

I have reviewed our records, and can confirm that the absence of the PvP Fiery Dragon Sword from the PvP tab of your Hall of Monuments vendor does appear to be a bug, one that our development team is currently working to resolve. Regrettably, I do not have any definitive information on when it will be implemented.

At least they have acknowledged that this is in fact a bug, and also that they are aware and working to resolve it. I know this isn’t exactly a major issue, but it sure would be nice to be able to use this sword in PvP finally. Hopefully this will make it into one of the upcoming patches. At this point I’m sure we’ve learned to deal with the absence of it.

I think a better question is, how does somebody accidentally destroy it in the first place? Why would you ever drag it off your character window and click destroy, or right click on it and click destroy? I think these are both legitimate questions.

Issue with dual monitors

The issue is more of the fact that this can occur while playing the game in full screen mode. Also, when playing in windowed full screen mode you do sacrifice quite a bit of performance, as the frame rate drops quite a bit.

I’m more interested in finding out how this is even a possibility (as well as a fix obviously). If I am using one of my monitors in full screen mode, I should not be able to click on my other monitor at all.

I have a very strange and unique issue that I am running into. This isn’t something that began with a recent patch, it’s actually something that’s been happening (randomly) since I’ve been playing.

I run the game in full screen mode (not windowed) on one of my monitors. I frequently have an issue occur where the game allows me to click on my second monitor which causes the game to minimize. I’ve played other games with my current setup and haven’t experienced this issue with any of them.

During gameplay it tends to happen at the most inopportune times. However, I have determined how to recreate the issue. If I bring my mouse to the side of the screen closest to my second monitor and right click while slightly moving the mouse towards the other monitor my mouse cursor will appear on the second monitor which causes the game to minimize.

You might say if I know how to recreate it, then I can avoid it right? Well, sometimes during the heat of battle when I go to adjust my camera as I need, that is when it occurs.

It’s an annoyance that I’ve dealt with for this long, but figured I’d post something to see if there is something that can be done to resolve it. I understand that this is an odd issue that may not have a fix, though it certainly would be appreciated.

The patch was live on October 7th. Today is October 9th (in the US), unless of course you are in Europe where it is actually October 10th now (roughly 3AM I believe). Regardless, that’s 2-3 days and not 4. I realize you said almost 4 days, though. Also if you look at the first post in this thread it was started yesterday.

This issue is also effecting me and I agree that it is certainly an annoyance, but we know that they are working to resolve it.

Same here, maybe they have not implemented it because there is a PvP reward sword that looks a lot like it. But then again that would not be fair.

It’s definitely implemented into the game because I just saw somebody link it, see screenshot:

I asked the player who linked it and he said it was on his PvP tab on his HoM vendor. I seem to be in the same boat as everyone in this thread, having everything else on the PvP tab except the PvP Fiery Dragon Sword.

Good warriors and thieves don’t use 100b, PW, HS spam but a lot of not-so-good ones do and they’re more than successful against players of equal or greater skill.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Had you said that good warriors and thieves don’t rely on those skills perhaps I would have agreed. I am a warrior and I use a 100b build that I have been using since release, but I wouldn’t say that I completely rely on 100b. I happen to thoroughly enjoy my build and have a lot of fun using it.

To say that I’m a not-so-good warrior just based off one of my weapon choices is outrageous. I never “jumped on the greatsword bandwagon” or anything of the sort. As I mentioned, this is something I’ve been using since the release of the game and don’t feel it necessary for me to change how I enjoy playing it. It does annoy me that players like you, Neoxide, feel that I should be labeled as a not-so-good warrior just because of a certain skill.

I think you should rethink your post.

You can’t spam something with a cool down since spamming implies using the same ability over and over consecutively within a very short time frame.

Besides, if you’re doing it right you only need to use 100B once anyway.

^ This (mostly). Also, even if you “do it right”, defensively spec’d players won’t die in 1 use of 100b, hence the use of other skills and weapon swapping.

i think what he’s saying is that spamming 1 button should not be so effective that it is actually viable even for bad/fotm players. As a ranger you can honestly get by with a bleed spec spamming 1 on shortbow. If the target has condition removal on CD they will melt in a matter of seconds simply by using 1 attack.

This explains the ranger aspect of this post but I still disagree with the 100b portion.

I do see your point here Merciless, at least with a mentioned spammable ranger skill. However, I do not see your reasoning for including 100b in your post.

I am in no way trying to imply that those who do weapon swap and use more than 3 skills are more skillful than those who spam x skill, but why does it have to be just as effective? That is the point I’m trying to make.

Just to clarify, what exactly would you report them for seeing that the report function is pretty limited. This isn’t technically botting, but I’m not exactly sure what other report option would be better in this situation.

I use a 100b spec, and I assure you that I am not “only using 100b and/or frenzy+bullrush”. I imagine if somebody is literally only using these skills that they aren’t very good.

To respond to your point as to whether or not weapon swapping should be encouraged, it certainly is for me as I’m swapping quite often actually. I use a greatsword and have a rifle for my second weapon. I generally start with my rifle, because that is my personal preference. It’s worked well for me thus far and I will continue to play the way I like to.

I also can’t help but find the whole “it takes no skill” argument completely wrong. Let’s at least clarify on what the word “skill” actually means. That word means having the ability to do something well. Isn’t it safe to assume here that these players you are posting about actually are playing quite well? Lets elaborate a bit further now. Who’s the unskilled player in this situation, the player that can actually win by, as you’ve over-exaggerated, spamming 1-2 skills or the player who is unable to dodge said skills properly? Aren’t these players dodging / avoiding your attacks? Doesn’t that in itself take skill?

No matter what way you choose to look at it, the game does take some form of skill, whether you choose to agree with it or not. However, if you do disagree please enlighten me as to how with some relevant information.

You can’t have 90 trait points.

As for the thread, I feel 100b and bull rush are perfectly fine. Yes, I’m a warrior. The bull rush cool down of 40 seconds is pretty lengthy if you ask me, and the fact that you have to stand still for the duration of 100b makes the skill very avoidable.

That being said, I would be open to a slight damage nerf to 100b, as long as they also added the ability to move while using it. It’d be a trade off that I’d be okay with.

Did you actually get both chests? The same thing has been happening to me, and I just hit 29. I was rewarded with both a dolyak and a wolf chest. However, only the dolyak chest actually made it into my inventory.

The rank 20 vendor won’t be accessible until you actually hit 20.

1- There really needs to be a penalty for leaving games early and afking in games. Something like you cannot que again for 15 mins if you leave a game.

I believe their should be a penalty for leaving tournament pvp games, but not for sPvP. Why? Simple, because sPvP is the casual version and it allows people to join (or leave) mid game.

2- Games need to not start until the Games are full. (Sounds simple enough, I just REALLY hate joining a game and seeing its only a 2v2 or something. People then join and leave and join and leave, and try to switch teams to the winning team if they can. Its just a big mess and creates a lot of frustration.

This would be nice, I suppose, but often times some servers tend not to fill up too quickly, also as above the whole hotjoin system wouldn’t work with this. If you want games to start when the games are full I can once again recommend tournament mode.

3- Kills need to give points (they might already and if they do that is awesome, right now though I cant tell if they do) The reason for this being to discourage teams to build NOTHING but defense, and just “hunker down” on points and never kill anyone.
If kills award some points, then it would mitigate the attractiveness of “pure defense” teams.

Kills do reward points. If I’m not mistaken I believe it is 5 points per kill.

4- Forests of —-Whatever. The map with the graveyard, waterfall, quarry, and keep lords….needs more people. That map just doesn’t feel like its designed to be played right without 15 people per team. (So each team can have roughly 5 at their base, 5 on a home node, and 5 on middle node) The map just feels too large to play with less people and at that point involves more “running around and tagging bases as fast as you can and no actual PvP”

I like that map and never considered that it may need larger teams to work better.

5- Personal Opinion that in the Game Browser All maps need to have different game modes for different amounts of players. Example:

5v5, 10v10, 15v15

The problem with this suggestion is that you’re asking for each map to not only have its own gametype (which would be fantastic if you ask me!), but that you’re recommending each map have a different set amount of players per team. This wouldn’t work at all considering how after each game you’re automatically loaded into the next map. Would you rather the system just kick you back to the hearts of mists after each map? I sure wouldn’t.

6- SPvP needs to change up how ques work. I dont have any ideas for how, but here are 2 problems I see that need fixed.

6a: Can’t play with your friends in pick up games. Tournaments are there, yes. But sometimes you dont want to commit the time to finish out a tournament, or you want to play a specific map over and over.

6b: You CAN play against your friends in Spvp: While I kinda like this, I can’t help but think there are people out there abusing the system to rig games and get free wins / kills. That just isn’t right and the option really should not even be there. Or if it IS there, make a game mode specifically for fighting players on your own server and award no points. (Or just assure us that you DEFIANTLY have someone there at arena net whose job it is to police proper PvP behavior)

I know this is a lot to ask for, and I’m realistic about how much you guys can achieve in reasonable time frames. Please just strongly consider these improvements as they would greatly add to the enjoyment of an already awesome game.

-PS. I love this game, its my favorite PC game I’ve ever played really. Keep up the good work and continue to improve it and make it a game that truly strives for perfection!

sPvP is not made for groups to stomp pugs. Sure there are times when several guild members can end up on the same team, but I don’t think it’s a big concern. I generally queue sPvP with one to three of my guild members. Sometimes we end up on the same team, and like you said sometimes we don’t. While at times we can attempt to switch teams if it allows, we still manage to enjoy playing against each other if need be.

I think it is safe to assume that the cultural armors are what you start to unlock once you reach pvp level 80. My guess is they are crafted using the highest token (dragon).

I think everybody wants to know how to acquire these sets. The strange part about them, from what I’ve noticed at least, is that many of the pieces in the PvP locker cannot be previewed. Is this because the items aren’t fully implemented into the game yet, or is it just a strange coincidence?

As Sanis pointed out, these could very well be from paid tournaments. Another assumption could be that these are pieces you start to unlock once you reach PvP rank 80.

It’s the best fix that I can come up with for now, as that would certainly work wouldn’t it? You and I both cannot control what other players decide to do. Players you don’t know or have never played with may leave for no apparent reason to you, however I imagine they have their own reasons for leaving.

Maybe something happened in real life that caused them to leave the game. Maybe they get their kicks out of knowing that tournament team they joined is now going to lose because they left (read: maybe they’re trolls). Maybe their internet cut out. These are just a few possibilities that I could think of off the top of my head as to why some players may leave tournament teams in the middle of a match (or before the match even begins).

In the end, their is only one absolute way to prevent players from leaving your team (granted that they do not suddenly have any sort of internet connectivity issues of course) and that is to play with people you know.

All of that being said, I must say that I do agree that something should certainly be done to players who leave tournament teams. What that something is, I’m not entirely sure. As Masterpyro pointed out, it could be something as simple as a lockout to joining another tournament for however many minutes.

To me, this sounds like you want it removed.

It’s part of the game that can and should be changed though.

This sounded like you’ve changed from remove it completely, to change it.

I haven’t changed my position. The change is that it should be removed.

It is unlikely that they will remove this part of sPvP altogether, however they may modify it at some point. Remember, the game isn’t even a month old yet so of course their are going to be kinks to work out as the game progresses.

If the idea to end the match if too many people quit isn’t what they want to do then perhaps this one would work. Instead of always auto balancing when too many people quit, perhaps their should be a score limit as to when auto balance no longer occurs. I’d say 450 points should make it so auto balance no longer occurs during that match.

Isn’t sPvP designed for pugs? I like how you’ve now moved your position from “Don’t do it, it’s stupid” to “it should be changed though”. I wholeheartedly agree! As I said in my first post, I mentioned a potential solution to auto balancing which I feel would work very well. For one, it would let you finish on the team you started with, and then auto balance on the next map. Fixed, right?

If you feel auto balance should be changed, what is your idea on how it could be changed?

I never said they could do no wrong (there’s lots of things I would change if I could, I even mentioned above a solution to auto balancing if you actually read my post), I just understand their logic as to why they have an auto balancing feature in their CASUAL version of PvP. Is that too hard a concept for you to grasp?

I’ve been auto balanced when my team has had 480+ points. We’ve all experienced losses because of auto balancing. It’s unfortunate, of course, but its part of the game.

Actually, yes, tournaments ARE the answer to folks trying to rid themselves of the evil “auto balance monster”. What you fail to understand is that sPvP is CASUAL. There will be players who leave mid game, players who join mid game and also times when you will be auto balanced to the other team.

If you are not okay with auto balancing there is only one answer: Form a team and play tournament mode.

For starters, you aren’t really being punished for being auto balanced to a losing team. What do you miss out on, 30 glory for the win bonus? Most of your earned glory is determined by your contribution to the match.

Once again: sPvP is CASUAL, whether you like it or not. It’s just a fact of the game. Considering this little nugget of knowledge regarding this specific aspect of the game, you have to come to understand that players are going to join your game in progress, sometimes leave and that you may or may not be auto balanced to the other team.

As I said above, if you truly want to rid yourself of auto balancing: Stop playing the casual version and go form a team to play tournament mode.

Do you realize how many threads have been posted about auto balancing? If you don’t, the answer is a lot.

If you suggest that they don’t auto balance to keep the game as fair as it can be at all times, what do you suggest they do? You have to understand that structured pvp is actually the “casual” version. If you really want to rid yourself of auto balance, I recommend forming a team and trying tournament pvp.

I see threads like this pop up a lot and most of them say something along the lines of “auto balance is stupid!”, but provide no input as to how to resolve their issues with it.

I can’t take full credit for the following idea, but I did see it posted by somebody and still think its the best idea regarding auto balance that I’ve seen. It’s pretty simple really, instead of auto balancing when too many players leave one team, just end the match and move on to the next map. Once the next map loads the game will have already “auto balanced” the teams.

In the end, the point I’m trying to get at is that if you’re going to make a thread on something you don’t particularly care for in the game, perhaps you should provide some constructive feedback as opposed to just calling a feature “stupid”.

I’m all for a leaver penalty. I’d go as far as to ask for deduction to your rank points for leaving a game!

Why? Hot join is the same as most FPS games, no one actually cares about the pub matches as long as people can join a game in progress. Having any sort of penalty for leaving a game that essentially doesn’t matter whatsoever is dumb. Sure, it can be a bummer if too many people leave without any others joining, but you can’t put a punishment on a casual gametype.

Exactly this, if you can join mid game, you can leave mid game, putting a penalty to leaving would ruin the fun, do you play PvP to have fun or rage?

You bring a very valid point, I can’t argue that. I suppose this whole idea could only work with an equal amount of players on each team from the start of the game (and that generally only happens after a previous match completes, and if everybody decides to stay in that server). Which basically makes this entire idea broken.

Edit: I’m not sure if you’re singling me out with your suggestion to go for a walk or take a break from the game because you feel I am raging over a PvP match, but I assure you that I’m not. I’m here to have fun just like the rest of you. I’ve never raged in any of the sPvP matches I’ve played, and probably never will. I’m sure you felt my comment to deduct rank points for leaving games sounded like I was the type of player to rage when people quit, but I’m not.

I’m receiving the error message stating that the game client is unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time. It suggests that it may be caused by a firewall or router setting, security application, etc. I’m certain that none of these potential causes is the culprit.

Is anybody else experiencing connectivity issues at this time? Oddly enough, I was connected about two hours ago.

I see your point, but counter with this: Theoretically, you could leave after the game completes, or before the next match even begins if you happen to load into the next map.

The reason I believe this thread was started is because of the issues people seem to have with the auto balancing feature. It’s not fun being on a winning team from the very beginning of a match only to have 2 or 3 people decide to quit towards the end of the match, forcing you to switch teams.

A leaver penalty might be a bit harsh, I agree, but I’m still for it if they decided to implement it. Another solution that I’ve posted in other threads to the auto balancing concerns would be to simply just end the match. What that would effectively do, is first leave you on the team you started with, and also “auto balance” for the next map. It’s pretty straightforward and I believe it would alleviate a lot of the concerns that auto balance seems to provide.
