@Nkrdbl
Finishers are cool and all only if they work. I myself am rank 30 nearly 31 and wolf finishers do not work and when you use them they become doyak XD. Hopefully they will get this fixed sometime soon.
That is pretty disappointing. I’m sure they will fix it though (probably by the time I hit 30!).
I’ve seen a lot of sPvP greatsword builds, but I feel mine is slightly different.
I prefer 30 points into discipline for two reasons. First, the 100% chance to rally from a successful vengeance kill can be extremely helpful, and secondly having movement skills break immobilize is also another great trait to have.
From most of the greatsword builds I’ve seen out there, it seems most recommend using a 1h/shield as your secondary weapons. I can’t help but disagree. From my experience, I’ve had no problem killing players who use a shield instead of a ranged weapon. It boils down to personal preference however. I for one like to have ranged abilities and you just can’t beat the damage from the kill shot skill (so long as you use it at the right time, generally after you watch your enemy dodge twice!).
Of course I’m open to build criticism or suggestions, but for now I find that this build works quite well for me.
Edit: I changed my build, slightly.
Decided to take 10 points out of arms and move it to defense instead. I think this is a better choice.

@Yoki
I’m only rank 22 at the moment, I just sort of recently decided to start PVPing myself. I already did most of (if not all) of the PVE that I wanted to do. I for one am not looking forward to the immense amount of glory necessary per level later on. It’ll be worth it for the awesome finishers later on though… right?
Also to keep this post on topic: Doubling glory for a win is a bad idea!
Unfortunately, regardless of what you feel should earn points or not, isn’t the case. As mentioned above, we all know what earns points in a match and what doesn’t. In the end it is your choice to perform the necessary tasks to earn points throughout a match, or to continuously kite two or more players throughout the game. I for one still choose to capture a point and move on to another point. Sure their are times where I have to backtrack with the team to re-capture a point, but it works! Remember, in these sPvP matches, the strongest zerg typically wins.
Also, isn’t playing to earn glory / ranks the same as playing to win matches? I know their are players who mindlessly farm kills (i.e. “team deathmatch”) instead of actually going for the objectives to win the game. I prefer playing the gametype as I believe it is supposed to be played, which to me means capturing points and killing enemies when need be. Some matches I earn a whole lot of glory by doing that, and sometimes I don’t even if my team wins.
I still believe we are all here for the same reason which is to rank up and earn glory. If that’s not the case, what else would you be playing sPvP for?
I strongly disagree with the doubling of glory earned from the match because of the current auto balancing setup. Also, Force, the doubling of your score of 10 for taking the one point from that match would give you 20 glory. Would that have even been worth it? I know you were just using an example, but I figured I’d show you exactly how much glory you’d have earned in that example.
I for one find it amusing when people try to hold one point the whole game, while my team collects the other 2 points, and eventually taking over the third that said player was trying to defend to begin with. We all know how to score points in the games, so why sacrifice more points which inevitably means more glory for the sole purpose of defending a single point?
However, if that is how you enjoy playing then more power to you. Personally, I’m out to hit rank 80 (which will take forever!) and net as much glory as I possibly can.
there is 0 reasons to give money in pvp… you dont spend in it in pvp so why earn it?
So much this. If you want PVE rewards, play PVE. If you want PVP rewards, play sPvP.
If you want Arcane Slivers you are better off with the Gold chests
Disagree. I get plenty of slivers from silver chests.

This isn’t guild wars 1.

I think a small reward wouldn’t be so bad? So when u switch to pve it feels like you’ve actually been playing that character.
Still no. sPvP and PVE are separated for a reason. I think it’s a terrible idea to allow PVE rewards in sPvP. If they allow that, like I mentioned above, where does it stop? Why can’t I get glory for running PVE content? See what I did there?
I saw somebody post this in another thread, so it isn’t exactly my idea, but I loved it.
Instead of auto balancing… how about, if too many players leave a certain team the game just ends. Perhaps it ends instantly, or maybe it ends in 20-45 seconds after too many leave.
What this would effectively do, is let you finish on the team you began with first of all, and secondly let the game auto balance for the next map. It’s pretty straightforward and I think its the best solution.
Thoughts?
Some extra reward for winning would be nice. Best would be if there would be a reward you can use in pve too.. like karma or a loot bag or some copper. If theres autobalance and u volunteer to switch to a losing team you should get some glory.
No. You should not receive any PVE rewards in sPvP. What’s next? Earning glory for running dungeons?
Auto balance is there for a reason, because sPvP is basically the “casual” version. If you want to rid yourself of auto balance altogether, I recommend tournament mode. However, your suggestion to end the match if too many people quit on one team, the match ending at the current score would resolve all of the issues with auto balance! Imagine no longer being switched to the losing side! Glorious! All that would happen, is the next match would “auto balance” itself.
Genius suggestion is genius. +1 Aurinax.
You’re missing the point.
Am I?
I don’t think winning gives enough incentive. The match I just played, I earned 140 of my own points, and got an extra 33 by winning the match for a total of 173. Really? It should at least have been 280 total. If you lose, you just keep the points you earned by yourself.
Here you are saying that you believe the win bonus should be equivalent with what you earned in the match. That is ridiculous if you ask me. Do I agree with you when you say the win bonus is substantially low? Absolutely. I wouldn’t mind a slight bump in the amount of glory earned for the win bonus but don’t think a win warrants an exact doubling of your earned glory from the match.
If you want more glory, use glory boosters.
No it should not. The reason is because of the auto-balancing feature. Imagine being in a game from the very beginning, your team is about to win at 490 points, and then you get auto-balanced to the losing team because somebody decided to quit. It’s happened to me and many others I’m sure.
The win bonus is so minimal even after winning several games in a row that its hardly noticeable. You gain most of your glory from your actual participation in the match (the way it should be!), not from the win bonus.
It’s the ONLY viable tactic to finish someone. Else you’ll just find yourself being dazed/knocked/whatnot’ed to death.
Stealth finishing is clever use of stealth, and the reward is appropriate.
Where’s my warrior classes stealth if its the only viable tactic to finish someone?
Edit: I suppose while we’re at it, the only viable way to rez someone is doing so while stealthed, too?
(edited by Nkrdbl.8160)
I can’t help but agree that I find the stealth finishers to be very annoying.
It’s working for me now.
It is back up for me.
Edit: Well, it let me get to character select and then promptly gave me another network error.
Anybody else just disconnect? I also cannot log back in.
Yea, I was in a sPvP match and suddenly got disconnected.
I just bought my first silver chest and got an arcane sliver from it. I wish I tried this before just assuming they only dropped from gold chests, per the wiki page. Oh how much glory I could still have. Oh well. Is there any reason to actually buy gold chests?
The better ones are called arcane slivers and they only drop from gold chests.
- Per http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arcane_Sliver
“They have chance to be salvaged when using a PvP Salvage Kit on rare PvP weapons and armor found in gold reward chests.”This is not true, I got a lot of highest quality items (which can give slivers) in silver chests. I didn’t salvage all, but from the ones I did, I got 3 slivers.
You’re right. I was actually just going off of what the wiki said. I just checked the arcane crystal page (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arcane_Crystal) and found that it said the following:
“They have chance to be salvaged when using a PvP Salvage Kit on uncommon PvP weapons and armor found in silver reward chests.”
I’m certain I’ve received arcane crystals from copper chests. I’m not sure why the wiki page states that they are found in specific chests, rather than all chests. I suppose I’ll start buying silver chests instead of gold when searching for arcane slivers moving forward.
I tend to get a lot of arcane crystals from copper chests believe it or not. The better ones are called arcane slivers and they only drop from gold chests.

“They have chance to be salvaged when using a PvP Salvage Kit on rare PvP weapons and armor found in gold reward chests.”
I’ve salvaged a lot of pvp items and I have never seen ore or any other crafting materials used in pve. Are you sure you got mithril ore from salvaging a pvp item and that it wasn’t just in your inventory?
I ran into a guild that was doing this. Three members on each team (all in the same guild), and they were mindlessly killing each other over and over. It’s annoying knowing that these players will probably hit max pvp rank long before I do, but I’ll be happy knowing that I did it legitimately.
I’d like to know how ArenaNet feels about players doing this kind of thing. Also, if you were to report these players… what exactly would you report them for? It’s not botting, I don’t think (though this is probably the best option). Inappropriate character name certainly wouldn’t work. They aren’t spamming or scamming, and verbal abuse wouldn’t get the job done either.
I just ran into a game that had a group of players in the same guild, 3 players on each team. They appeared to just be farming glory by killing each other over and over. Is this also considered cheating / exploiting? I can’t imagine the fun of what they are doing, considering it pretty much defeats the purpose of pvp. Anybody else experience a similar group of players mindlessly farming glory in this fashion?
I have the full heavy set and can confirm that I still have the normal charr tail. I’ve previewed the light chest piece and saw the flame tail though. Would have been a cool feature for all of the sets.
Edit: Just to let you know, its the chest piece, not the leggings, that display the tail graphic on the light armor set.
(edited by Nkrdbl.8160)
Like you, I too have been switched at inopportune times. I’ve been switched when my team had 490 points in some instances. It happens. As I explained earlier, you and I both cannot control the other players deciding to leave the game. I am completely for the balancing of teams when this occurs.
Why would a loss bother you in sPVP anyway? Also, what kind of limit should be put in place to limit which team gets balanced? You understand that the only time auto balancing pops up is when the teams are uneven? How can you control which team is going to randomly lose a player or two?
Maybe you are suggesting that after a certain score, say, 450, the teams should no longer be auto balanced? I suppose that’s something to consider for ArenaNet, but I still feel that if the teams are uneven then they should be balanced.
It is just a game after all.
Casuals won’t be on the level of competitive players, and probably don’t really care if they win or lose a game, but to get slapped with a loss after (for a casual player) can be a hard fought victory, is just a slap to the face with no punishment for the, i’m in it only to farm glory WoW bg points attitude.
Of course casuals won’t be on the same level as highly competitive players, that’s well understood I thought. I don’t consider a loss in sPVP do to being switched to the losing team a slap in the face at all, after all sPVP is casual isn’t it? To each his own though.
If there are highly competitive players playing sPVP, I think they’re playing the wrong mode. There’s a reason tournament mode exists.
If you’re not playing sPVP for glory farming / ranking up, what else would you be playing it for? Aren’t we all playing sPVP to level up to rank 80, or at least trying to?
There’s also the Flame Legion helm, Inquest helm, and Order of Whispers helm where it completely removes our horns, and just makes it look ridiculous because of it. :\
I have the flame legion helm from pve, I think it looks great even without the charr horns (though it would be cool if it did have the horns too). I just think it would be cool to have the skull on the helm I posted about.
As I said, it is frustrating, but I completely understand their reasoning behind it. Remember, sPVP is not about premade teams destroying pugs. It’s more about pugs vs pugs. Their entire reasoning behind it is in the title itself: autobalancing.
While you and I cannot control people disconnecting or quitting a match in progress, you have to understand that the balancing is done to keep games as equal as it can be (even if it means switching a player as a game is about to end). If you despise this feature completely, I can only recommend forming a team and playing in tournament mode instead.
I’m sure its been said in this thread already by somebody else, but I saw another thread the other day about autobalancing and figure I’d say it again.
I do agree that being switched to the losing team near the end of a match when you’ve been on the winning team from the start can be frustrating. That being said, even if you do win several matches in a row, you aren’t netting most of your glory from the win bonus. It’s fairly minimal if you ask me. Most of your earned glory comes from your participation and success in the match itself.
Just my two cents.

I’ve seen this helm on every other race (I think) and the facemask part of it shows a skull, which I thought was pretty awesome. For whatever reason the helm on the Charr is missing this part completely, which is pretty disappointing.
My guess is the skull didn’t work right with the shape of the charr’s face… but I hope that ArenaNet could find a way to make it work.
Anyone else notice this? I’m not too concerned about it, I just thought I’d mention it and see what other Charr’s felt about this.
I’ve attached two screenshots, the first showing my character with the non-skull helm, and another showing another race that has the skull. Sorry for the oddness of the second screenshot, the player was standing on top of a group of players and that’s the best I was able to do.
Two handed axes and one handed hammers are needed please!
Isn’t a one handed hammer basically a mace?
Great suggestion Wolfey! I really like that suggestion for a sudden death 1-flag variation as opposed to the offence/defense version I “borrowed” from Halo. That would certainly make for some interesting battles over the neutral flag.
I don’t feel that what I said was “off the mark and not correct at all”, but to each his own at this point. Can we stop arguing and get back to the topic?
It is true that some of the maps wouldn’t work well for CTF, I agree with that. Clearly we’re both posting in this topic because we both want structured PVP to have a larger variety.
Technically their are two versions of CTF that could potentially work. I’d much prefer a 2 flag version, where you simply have to score your enemies flag while your flag is safe in your base. Another version that might work is 1 flag CTF where teams take turns on offence and defense (very similar to how CTF worked on Halo if anybody played that). The latter may not work at all, but it’s just an idea.
Another gametype that could work that would be very similar to the current gametype, would be king of the hill. This would work by having the objective move at certain intervals during play and your team would gain points by controlling it (once again, very similar to how it works on the Halo games).
The Golem’s attacks are avoidable. You can dodge them if timed properly. As Culler mentioned, I’m sure condition control can help because he heals as he removes conditions. The group I ran with didn’t avoid condition damage at all, as the we felt the Golem’s heal was minimal.
I did not state in any of my posts that you made a claim of F.P.S. being the first or the last to use this model, I was stating facts to support and back my claim as to why a map pack would be good possibility to explore. As for your off topic complaints, If you are not willing to tolerate another users input on a public forum then you really need to deactivate your account and invest into some Ethics and Public Speaking courses. It is my deepest sympathy and I truly apologize if my input has offended you in anyway. However, I would like to quote a couple things from the original post made by you that void out your argument of:
“If you’d like to discuss the possibility of paying for a map pack, I’d recommend creating a new thread. Any further input on this threads discussion would be appreciated though.”“Anybody else have any suggestions?
Edit: If they do decide to add more gametypes, it would also be nice for them to add a map/gametype vote system at the end of each match too."
I refereed back to both of your point:
“map” & “game type” by combining them into a map pack system.I ask that you fully read the posts and take a two-three minutes pause before responding to other writers posts, It is not good practice in any social setting to respond in anger or frustration.
I’m not entirely sure why we continue to argue with each other here. I asked the community if they had any further suggestions, which I thought was understood as suggestions for other gametypes.
Apparently editing my post to mention that I think it would be nice for them to add a vote system for gametype/map to you means that I felt they needed to add more maps too? While I’d certainly welcome more maps, I would be more interested in other gametypes first, as playing the same gametype over and over can get pretty tedious. Wouldn’t you agree?
Who’s offended? I’m certainly not. We’re all here for the same reason after all, aren’t we? To enjoy the game, right?
(edited by Nkrdbl.8160)
I used the example of console FPS games selling map packs because I felt it was a widely known practice. I wasn’t claiming they were the first, or that they’d be the last. I made this thread to discuss the possibilities and suggestions from the community on new gametypes.
If you’d like to discuss the possibility of paying for a map pack, I’d recommend creating a new thread. Any further input on this threads discussion would be appreciated though.
Are you referring to the guild magic find banners? Those are basically guild advertisements. This thread was made to discuss the benefits of having an actual merchant inside the dungeons themselves to make it easier to clear inventory when need be.
If you’re disappointed that anybody can click on your guilds banner’s for a magic find bonus, then perhaps you should do what my guild does: Buy the +10% magic find bonus for 3 days upgrade, as that works for all representing guild members only.
I for one wouldn’t mind paying $10 U.S.D. for a P.V.P. map pack.
I would. I have no problem paying for an actual expansion when the time comes, like they did with Guild Wars 1. As far as paying for a map pack, what is this, a console FPS?
Team deathmatch? God no.
In hot join, that will be absolute garbage. Everyone will go full damage.
Capture the flag, though, I could see working out. However, utility skills and weapon skills should be disallowed, as well as any form teleporting (including mesmer portals)
I’m just throwing out ideas as they come to me. Remember, if they were to add a Team Deathmatch, or even a free for all deathmatch, you don’t have to play it if you don’t like it. You need to keep that in mind. I figure the more gametypes available, the more interesting structured pvp will be.
I wholeheartedly agree with your point on capture the flag, however. Any teleport, stealth, or any other skill that I’m blanking on right now that would be severely overpowered while carrying a flag, should certainly force the flag to drop.
It would be greatly appreciated if ArenaNet could add merchants inside each of the dungeons. Thoughts?
What do you guys think about adding new gametypes to structured pvp? It does get pretty repetitive doing the same mode on all of the maps if you ask me. How about a straight up deathmatch mode and/or a capture the flag mode?
Anybody else have any suggestions?
Edit: If they do decide to add more gametypes, it would also be nice for them to add a map/gametype vote system at the end of each match too.

Hi everyone. I haven’t seen this issue posted, as I did try to search for it using the search at the top. My guild has just completed Research Economy Level 3, and I was trying to add the “+10% Magic Find for 3 Days” upgrade.
I see the “Add” button available for this upgrade now, however, after clicking on add nothing happens. It doesn’t remove any of our influence, or add the upgrade to our build queue. Has anybody successfully queued this upgrade?
Edit: Oddly enough, I’m the leader of my guild and it wouldn’t let me queue this upgrade. I had one of our officers try to queue it and it went through no problem. This is very strange, as I certainly have the rights to queue upgrades.

In the Magg path of this dungeon, the chain to open the door to the first boss appears to be bugged. It can’t be interacted with. We’ve tried letting the dungeon reset 3 times now and each time we reach the part to use the chain to open the door to the first boss, it cannot be clicked.
Is anybody else experiencing this issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
