It did and it didn’t.
For those that just like the soloing, story, and freeplay, it sucks. In GW2 pre-HoT, when did you have to unlock anything to progress in the story? You had to solo instance boss fight and walk to some new places, thats it. In HoT, you MUST participate in content repeatedly on HoT maps, grinding your mastery until you have the right unlock to progress your story. The time spent unlocking story to playing story in HoT vs pre-HoT is massively disproportionate. It really feels like grinding now, no exploring new hearts to get experience. There is zero point to exploring the map and enjoying it like an adventure.
Actually, you had to grind experience levels to progress the story Pre-HoT, which could easily be far more tedious on a first character than masteries. And you have to unlock the maps/waypoints to get to the next story instance. While there aren’t ‘Hearts’ in HoT, each map has several equivalents in terms of the local meta events (Thankfully, the April patch fixed the reward structure) – the assorted outposts in VB (Noble Crash site, Ordnance Corps, Itzel village, Main Pact base, and the Sylvari team in the ruins) and TD (Nuhoch, Ogres, Rata Novus, and SCAR), and watchposts in AB come to mind.
For those you you liking zergs and zerg trains, thats exactly what its become. You don’t actually think for yourself, you just follow the guy in front of you and do what he does. “working together to take things down” by copying the guy beside you to do the one event that’s on the map. The game already had this but to make it the what-is for all new content is harsh for those outside zerg-mentalities.
Eh. “Zerg Trains” are a great way to end up with incomplete maps. You gotta spread out, and a lot of events are very soloable. Though I find your dismissive attitude toward group play to be highly disturbing.
I can’t agree with you that changing maps and getting to a new waypoint is the same as unlocking masteries. And I also don’t know how your soloing events in HoT? You must be at least rallying with randoms in the area. You’re way above average if you soloing a bunch of HoT events.
And yes, I’m not a fan of trains so I have this tone in my posts. But with original content there were work arounds for the trains. It was walk two feet, bump into an npc who needs help and start something so you didn’t need to go on one should you choose to. WvW trains were always running, you just needed to catch up to it making it different then PvE which goes off on set timers and they are also circumvent-able as there are ways to do your own thing.
Most of the map in HoT is pointless to explore more then once and its the diversity I’m poking at here. Its become a rail shooter.
If I could level up my HoT mastery in the original content I would. There is just too much content to enjoy that you rarely come to do the same thing twice, let alone in the same order. But I can’t since mastery of HoT and pre-HoT don’t overlap. I don’t mind leveling slow, I just want to enjoy it while I do and not be forced into repetition.
It did and it didn’t.

HoT also doesn’t match up with 5v5 pvp which I don’t like. If you want thorn related content you have to do thorn related events. Where as the reward tracks in 5v5 showers u in stuff u’d get from the original content.
xD
GW2 has become like other MMO’s now, its lost its uniqueness. Did it ruin it? no, do I wish it was more diverse? yes
1. Use more tankier gear.
2. Find people to do events together: lfg; tags on the map; or just try different parts of the map for someone doing meta.
3. To level up masteries play Tag Wars 2 in Dragon’s Stand with some xp boosters.
3. To get masteries points – explore all the maps.
What the heck is Tag Wars 2?
And I don’t need points just xp for unlocks.
Also something seems off for even with full stacks of bloodlust, my damage is still weaker then other players.
I’m not making much progress, getting to my current mastery 12 has been painfully slow. With it at that state I can’t even progress in the storyline.
I’m not on allot and play solo so I usually miss the experience trains. Even when I do make them, it becomes hours of play at a time.
Running an part ascended part orange beserker geared s/a reaper with scholar and ascended accessories. It can take on a few normal mobs and a veteran at best.
The experience is like walking through wet concrete and im not getting anywhere… I get on, kill a few mobs, hope that I run into an event and then get off.
I’m not a hard core PvEer nor do I have time to pretend to be one so am slightly at a loss on what to do.
Thoughts?
I know I’m not a developer and can’t comment what going on in the company but in another game Archeage they are being idiots.
It would be worth noting that they are server merging in september by deleting major servers, rolling out new ones and merging the larger ones.
Its not so much a merger, more a forced shuffle as the number of servers don’t change. They have just found a way to wipe the land that remain permanent on peoples accounts once acquired through a small fee. Which is a major and vital feature to game play there.
It’s a disaster and it would be nice if GW2 was ready with new content and shinny things to attract the players that are very likely going to be wanting to breaking off from Trion/ XL in the next month.
New build just went live that includes a fix for this issue, if you are still having problems please post.
This is the first time Anet has posted on this issue in 3 months, when the forum moderator merged the threads.
No, it is not fixed for me.
Sorry for the frustrations, can be really annoying when there is a bug that is not wide spread since it will take longer to find and will seem more like its something on the user side.
My guild encountered this issue when it first appeared but the patches along the way removed the issue. I hate to propose a band-aid but its that or keep waiting. Just some thoughts:
Have you tried:
- Invisible/visible? Yes
- Leave guild/rejoin? Yes
- Changing guild rank? Nope, actually yes. So that’s a yes to that, we have active and non-active rank system in guild.
- Remove old chat tab and create new one? Yes
- Do you get any messages when posting? You are not in a guild
- Is there any pattern to the people that can/can’t see the text? No one can see it
- Can people see each other’s text while partied up? Does guild chat work then? Party, local, Map and Team all work. Only guild chat is affected.
- Is anyone using a customized chat options or the default? Not that I am aware of, everything is default
- Is this issue in just one guild or all guilds that you/they are part of? All guilds
- Are there any chat options off in the chat tab(s) with the issue? Nope
- Are any other chat options impacted? say/party/map/whisper…. Nope
Hope they can get it resolved for you, you are quite corrected not being able to chat in an MMO defeats the point and ruins the social experience.
I’m getting sick of this.
Since the airplane patch released april 1st, guild chat no longer works. I’m not alone and have recently found out it is the same for others in my guild. We can’t communicate as a whole and if it wasn’t for our guild leader playing middle man between us that are isolated, we’d never be a part of anything.
I’ve sent my ticket in and watched the idiocy of replies. Every two days I get an automated email asking me if the situation is resolved and that if I do not reply, they will assume it is. With an email chain over 28 messages long, you think they will get confused? The answer: Yes.
Now I’m getting asked questions I’ve already answered as the GM’s aren’t bothering to read the whole chain anymore, asking me to try things I’ve stated that I’ve done in my very first message. As a result I’ve asked them to delay the automated 2 day message and they can’t even do that to help themselves.
I was really hopeful that the big patch today would fix guild chat but nope. I’m still following the GM’s directions and watching the forums for an update. Such actions fill me with hope since I have yet to see one Anet Dev comment on the issue which I know has gone on for well over a month when considering other’s cases.
Anet is not going to fix this issue and it makes me very sad. The community is what MAKES this game and no matter how many costumes and gimmicks you put up, they will never outweigh the importance of guild chat.
Players participate in content because of guild chat, because other’s incise them in or just let them know what’s going on. Its because of that you can make money off players in the game, so think things through here.
Essentially I can’t do anything in game until guild chat is fixed and it royally sucks.
As it is, I can get more rewards faster by doing custom matches and using them with others that are like minded for maximum returns. This results in pvp players that could be honing their skills, taking shortcuts and ultimately watering down the pool of good players we might find in a match.
That’s just not true. The reward track progression per match is lesser than what you gain in unranked/ranked, the rank points reward are more or less the third of what you gain in unranked/ranked, your gains are capped daily and you gain less if the match is over too fast. As it stands, the best strategies to get maximum rewards is just playing the game normally in unranked/ranked.
Why are these people in the rank farm servers then? Frankly, it puzzles me. Some are probably just ignorant of the true numbers just like yourself, but I think most can’t imagine playing something engaging in a MMO and would rather grind their way to rank 80 than doing it more efficiently by just playing.
Check your numbers, what you say is incorrect. You can get equal and faster earnings in custom matches let alone dailies and things like conqueror. Aim for the 500 point cap and it becomes possible since you don’t usually get near the point cap on other normal matches.
It just becomes another lobby where people chit-chat while moving on and off points.
No, it may be so for competitive e-sports but gw2 doesn’t have the player base to start splitting up players into tiers. Also, players get better by losing to strong opponents. A great player will mimic/ counter their opponent till they can surpass them and in turn their opponent has to do it to them. By making the best play against the best, away from the worst, new players and those that need experience will be at a loss to acquire it.
Personally I think daily’s should be coming from the hotm lobby. Go kill one of the training dummies, dodge x times, use a catapult/ cannon to take out x number of targets. The daily guides them to the door of sPvP but its not forcing them in. Those coming into the game to play because they want to. Those are the ones we want and are going to stay.
Custom arena’s should have different rewards and methods to keep them out of conflict with ranked and unranked arena’s. Using the arena with guild upgrades to acquire rewards as desired and directed by the guild, moving away from the track system.
Furthermore, I don’t know why setting up a custom arena is 200 gold while maintaining it is free. I can get 1 day arena extensions that I can use on other player’s arenas and my own, but have never gotten the starter kit for it. Maybe if those tokens could reactivate the arena but once that arena goes down, it’s another 200 gold to get it back. 20-50 gold would seem more reasonable.
sPvP is not a dungeon run. Its suppose to be heart pumping, mind boggling, over the top combat.
Unfortunately, when I walk into a 10v10 after losing a few matches to get my dailies and because I’m out of time to play, I want to shoot myself. I see this coordinated effort of reds and blue switching places to get their 10point neutralization and conversion.
It reminds me of how players might operate in a dungeon. Not one of the players actually intends to fight one another and rather your likely to get called a troll or ganked if you start something like that.
Simply said, I don’t want to see dungeon player mentality anywhere near sPvP. There is a huge difference between the two and allowing them to mix hurts the quality of the game.
Players need to come to HOTM looking for sPvP, not for another dungeon. Then we can start building a really awesome community with everyone on the same page.
Note:
I just had an unranked match on the ice temple map. It was an interesting match because I managed to fend off the players by using the pillars near the middle point to mess with line of sight. For most of the match I fought under 10% health and was very difficult to kill. It was a tactic you could never learn in a pve environment.
1. I forced them to choose to either stay on the point or come after me. The decision delayed their actions and with passive health regen I got stronger.
2. Pve players get stuck doing one tactic far to easily so by changing your attack vector they can’t predict your movements. That is the advantage of being a player and not a npc. As a result, when i turned around and hit them with my 2% health left they were dumbfounded and all of my major skills hit.
It just goes to show me that you can’t mix sPvP and PvE. The players even looked like npcs as they chased after me like mesmer clones…
-snip-
There are so many bad players being made from the current system of spvp. You need to make them actually play the content or it will never get better.
So letting them play in custom matches where they dont hurt leaderboard is bad for them how?
Not sure I follow. I’d prefer for them to stay out of ranked if they were bad and didnt want to learn.
Maybe or maybe you end up with players focused on spvp while allowing those coming in just for rewards, a more constructive exploit to their gameplay.
Yes, sweeping those players under the rug and pushing them into custom games where we don’t have to deal with them seems like the best solution for us. But I don’t see it being the best solution for the spvp community as a whole.
I’m not against the idea of custom arenas but I believe there is consider in having them with rewards.
I see players using custom matches as an exploit to avoid actually pvping for rewards and that’s something I can see someone doing in wvw or pve, not spvp.
As it is, I can get more rewards faster by doing custom matches and using them with others that are like minded for maximum returns. This results in pvp players that could be honing their skills, taking shortcuts and ultimately watering down the pool of good players we might find in a match.
Its damaging to spvp as a whole and though a nice idea in general, doesn’t work.
Since I don’t see custom games being removed. It would be nice to have a gm force of sorts that can ban players from pvp for a week if caught exploiting custom games.
Things like reds and blues predetermining which team will win and coordinating the game for max points by not killing anyone, shouldn’t be allowed. Daily should come from ranked and unranked only and if you can’t win, make and team and work with people to accomplish your goals.

Does reporting a gold seller multiple times help Anet identify and/or handle them?
For an example…
A gold spammer sends you two messages.
Does reporting both messages do more then reporting ‘just’ the first one?
Well if Anet is pulling a net profit from it then I’m not as worried but I’d assume gold sellers would of found a way around buy Anet accounts with promo-codes or something.
If your looking at profit for Anet it would be nice to see accounts used for advertisement become less effective and force them to get more accounts to do the same task.
Thx for the help.
I just made the purchase, hopefully it goes smoothly now
The terms of sale or confusing. I don’t really see where it goes over you purchasing for someone else.
so when i provide my email in the purchase it doesn’t get revealed by giving them the key? its as easy as giving them a key?
most of my gaming community is spread out across the continent so it would also have to be a digital copy unfortunately
how though? is there an option in purchasing to purchase as a gift?
Is there a way to purchase a copy of GW2 for others?
I want to buy a copy of guild wars 2 for those in my gaming community but don’t know how that works.
Is it possible to buy an activation code off the site and give it to them?
Not helping…
This thread is kinda getting side tracked by talking about gold spammer psychology…
At least, does reporting each message help more then reporting just one?
I’m also surprised reporting someone as a gold spammer doesn’t automatically block them for you. It seems to make allot of extra work that seems unnecessary for the player.
I would recommend getting a cat.
They are pros when it comes to handling mice.
Has anyone noticed an increase in tenacity in gold spammers?
Till recently I have dealt with gold spammers by reporting them and moving on. They were slightly changing their name and repeating the same message with random changes in a specific areas of the message.
Now I’m at times getting dozens of the messages but from the same character, all in a row. It’s happening more now and reporting doesn’t seem to stop the spam. Leading me to manually blocking the character after reporting all the spam.
Did Anet’s anti-gold seller scripts break? And does reporting each gold selling message affect Anet’s ability to deal with the gold spammer?
My guild chat remains broken so I can’t just set myself to offline, else no one in the game can communicate with me. So what do I do about it?
11 days of broken guild chat now… Would be nice to see Anet say something publicly to acknowledge this as a pressing public issue. That would put my mind at ease at least. Yes I have had replies to my tickets but they just tell me that its complex and to watch the forums…
How long have some people been without guild chat? Just curious.
Random NPC map banter…
I don’t think I’ve seen new content in this regard since the end of season one
I do allot of sPvP and I’m looking for others that play it as well. PvE wise I usually just goof around but I am usually up for joining a party to do something.
Would like some help on my Arah storylines, since I have allot of them to do and don’t like jumping in with pugs. I will help when I can in return.
Please PM me

I just left all my guilds, couldn’t talk with them anyways because communicating with a guild group via whispers just isn’t feasible
Problem solved…
I want my build to focus on my pet but I’m not sure how to back it up or what weapons/ skills to choose.
So far im using a gs and lb with a 20026 set up
lb works well but the gs has issues in my opinion though I figure I need it for when an opponent decides to get close or I’m running a dungeon.
I have my wolf Paw and my Jaguar Purrella
It don’t get it…
Why isn’t this getting any attention from Anet?
Figured it wouldn’t hurt to make a compiled list. If people want to post what issues they have found SINCE April 1st that are not ongoing from previous patches, feel free.
*Guild chats for one someone has recently entered, returns an error that you are not in the guild and will not let you speak.
Is this subject going to get any serious consideration when moderators are merging posts from 2 years and 2 days ago?
I take issues with this unless people have actually had unfixed guild chat issues for almost the full duration of GW2. Have they?… There has to be a cut off point where a thread is considered dead or cold and should be locked, no?
Wondering if anyone else has had these circumstances…
Since the patch released on April 1st, that allowed everyone to be an airplane, guilds that I have join post patch do not have their guild chats working.
I can see the guild in its tab and it says I am representing but when I go to talk in guild chat, it says I am not in a guild.
I have tried:
- Leaving the guild and rejoining
- Setting myself to away then online
- Restarting the client and my computer
- Submitting a bug report
Basically I have been in the dark since april 1st and I’m finding it strange that the issues hasn’t been fixed.
I should add that the guilds I joined pre-patch, work as intended. So new ones don’t work and the old ones do.

PvP players don’t need much but what would be nice to see is skill, rune and sigil unlocks coming from the rewards cause that is what we use. Besides that, items we can use to make gear for WvW so that we can take our pvping there would help us branch out.
Salvageable exotic trash might be nice for us to get materials for ascended.
Just a thought and concept
A lane battle between two players with a few ways to win.
1. At the end of either lane are turrets that damage enemy players and behind them is skill point like point. Claim it to win, the other player’s attacks will interrupt you but the point is out of range of the turret to help them.
2. Kill the other player enough times
3. Controlling the point in the middle gathers points. Leaving the point will cause it to start auto reverting back to neutral.
Note: Evil bunnies will travel the lane and attack w/e comes close to them that is not on their team. They are not much of a threat to a player but can still do damage and will keep growing in numbers until they reach their maximum populations… You know how bunnies are when it comes to reproducing.
Just split up the party and mix them into the other team
Personally I think the classes are balanced. If you know how to build your character and get to fight the way you intended, you have a good chance of “winning” encounters.
Anyone has a chance against anyone if you consider the scenario from the stage where you set up your characters skills.
Where things aren’t balanced are when classes combine and work together. If you have people working with you and choose to take advantage of that, the outcome of any match is heavily weighted in your favor. Its difficult for those of us that just que up to jump into pvp by ourselves and why burst builds are usually most effective for those “selfish” players.
1v1, I don’t see serious balancing issues.
yah, it died in an instance for me
then how do you fight immobilize? for melee classes its a death ticked because you can’t dodge
Excellent question! You actually have several ways to get rid or negate the effects of a petty immobilization, sorted here by effectiveness (it still depends on the build you’re running, of course).
1) Learn the immob skills animations and dodge them. For example, engineer’s rifle #2 is hugely telegraphed, and so are most of the warrior’s and ranger’s immobilizations. The longest immob usually have the most obvious animations.
2) Some skills specify in their description that they break immob. It oftens go with the general theme of the skill. Examples: thief’s Withdraw, warrior’s wharhorn #4, ranger’s Lightning Reflexes, etc. Find out which one you have in your build, or add some.
3) Immobilization is a condition, and can be removed by any classical condi removal utilities. If you’re having problems with immob, use an insta-cast condi removal, like mesmer’s Mantra of Resolve. Immob can be covered, of course, so this works best when fighting power-based build (LB rangers…).
4) Block/invuln, or better yet, use an evading skill. You can’t dodge while immob, but skills like thief’s SB #3, warrior’s GS #3, or every kitten the ranger has on his sword and dagger still work when you’re immobilized. They often are on a much lower CD than invuln (that are usually stun-breakers as well), so they are an excellent choice.
5) Teleport away. Sure, you’ll still be stuck, but you can get away from that shatter/HB, or hide behind a wall so that the ranger can’t pew pew you to death.
6) Accept your fate. Not recommended if you’re serious about winning.
Hope that helped! Of course, all of the above only applies if you WEREN’T STUCK MID-AIR! When is that bug going to be fixed?!
edit: added bold font passages to stress the main elements.
I use a burst warrior and the build it is not flexible at all so immobilize counter skills aren’t really an option. More often then not I’m fighting multiple opponents and seeing immobilize coming and reacting to it while being out of someone’s cc is pretty rare.
I don’t know how your suppose to dodge those skills when fighting at close range. Maybe its just not something a typical player can do.
since stability is a stack now you can also burn it off with aoe cc in a zerg fight. its not as strong as it used to be.
You are in the sPvP forum.
I’m aware of that, there are still zerg tactics in 5v5 as far as im aware.
That’s not a good tactic. Watch this video to learn about conquest tactics! It’s great, I watched it when I was already experienced and learnt a ton of stuff!
I agree its a terrible tactic but in single que matches there are allot of opportunities to use it effectively. If the enemy dies instantly there’s not much they can do and it’ll definitely get you the win since it doesn’t need any actually team coordination or skill.

Any chance of putting immobilize on the list for what stability counters?
I don’t understand why its not. It can be just as effective at stopping someones attack as any of the other crowd control skills. So as nothing counters it, isn’t it really over powered?
I hope the Malaysia airline accidents from 2014 didn’t inspire this…
Airplanes have been in the news allot over the past year in a negative light so in terms of foresight, I don’t really see Anet having much with what they probably just reminded allot of people about.
People are finding that they have time to post negative remarks BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT PLAYING THE GAME!
lol… Just putting two and two together
The release of this event came after the last patch that in some cases broke guild chats.
Dropping an event like this without guild chat fully operational seems like a waste, you can’t talk about it to allot of people. Its going past four hours now and guild chat is still down. I don’t think Anet cares enough to fix it soon if they released this after guild chat goes down.
This feels like Anet just doing what it wants. I’ve been kicked out of the drivers seat in how I want to play this game. Instead I see a walking scarecrow (that’s a floating statue underwater) which repeats the same audio track every ten seconds, on top of it being kitten the eyes. It isn’t the Nya Nya song that you can listen to 10 hours straight and not go mad.
This leaves me with bad memories and a day where I didn’t play guild wars through choice or personal circumstances but because I hated the experience. It was an unnecessary evil and I hope Anet and others have had a good laugh over it because, to me, it is an eternal black mark on an otherwise great game.
Yah, cruelty has its limits…
Describing Gw2 players as pornos should really get you banned from the forums. I don’t find that constructive at all.
Neither do you even consider why people may take the stances they do. People enjoy having fun and doing the things they do, if they don’t see their time being spent that way I don’t see the harm in speaking up that they don’t like the content.
