You do realize ANet has to implement more than just one weapon when they implement new ones?
They can’t release one weapon that’s usable with every spec because it would totally destroy item balance in game (there needed to be much more types of this weapon).
And because of that I think we’ll never get one. That’s a bit sad but that’s how it is. I think opening up already existing weapons with elite specs is a good step to give you more choice without totally destroying the item balance.
Yeah as I said, I began playing Revenant two weeks ago. My issue with Rev is that it all just feels pretty… boring? I don’t know, I haven’t played the sup/heal role yet but the builds for DPS seem pretty limited and rather flat when compared to Necromancer.
Ah, I understand. Thank you!
Mhm nobody experienced with both?
I’m pretty sure the expansion will have some major balancing things.
The title says it all. Which class is more versatile?
I really love to “heal” or support and Revenant with Ventari seems to be really great for that but I love the Condi playstyle of the Necro as well and being some kind of Chillomancer is amazing to me (at least in theory). With Revenant I get bored pretty quickly when it comes to different DPS builds but support/heal seems to be superior.
So, can somebody explain to me which class is more versatile and offers more (effective) builds and diversity?
Ah, okay, got your comment a bit wrong. I agree!
Lightly staffed? I thought ANet has more employees than ever before. And they’ve got two teams working on 1. Living Story and 2. Expansion. That’s overall a better coordination than for HoT so I’m sure they will do better this time.
I’m still positive that ANet learned from the HoT debacle and won’t repeat it with XPAC 2.
you seem to be a bit overhyped, I can assure you, there will be a little time between episode 6 and Exp2, more than between the LS3 chapters.. I’m going to guess 3-4 months
Just read what they said. They said either it’s a) going in the usual release schedule or b) with a 2-3 month gap. Even when it’s b) that means we’ll have the expansion before / in November.
So as we know now, the expansion is coming right after Episode 6. That means we’ll get the expansion in September – November. That’s awesome!
____________
During today’s Guild Wars 2 Flashpoint AMA, Mike O’Brien confirmed that the long-teased expansion (yeah, the one that leaked out of every possible culvert this morning) is indeed on the way following the end of season three.
“We announced that today’s episode, Flashpoint, is the second-to-last episode of the season,” he wrote. “Yes, that means what you think it means: there’s one more episode after this, and then straight to the expansion pack.”
Hey there, the title says it all. I would like to play a ranged Revenant and I don’t know how. Using the 2h Hammer seems obvious but then?
I just recently returned to the game and started a new character, I’m 16 now on my Revenant and really want to play a ranged build but it seems to be a bit weird, at least when it comes to the legends.
Can someone tell me the best way to play / level with a ranged build?
The game is nearly 5 years old so I’d say: no. I think it could work really well on consoles but it’s too late for that.
I’m pretty sure we’ll have the 2nd expansion this year. I’d say November is a good time.
I already created a similar threads some hours ago:
And there is absolutely no need for GW3.
Hey guys,
as we know now LV3 only does have six episodes. Episode 5 will be released soon so only episode 6 is left until we either see a) expansion nr. 2 or b) LV4. That means we will have episode 6 some time around July / August and possibly the next huge story content in Autumn.
What do you think, will it be the next expansion or just a new living world season?
I don’t think we’ll see Cantha in the near future. Maybe they could somehow tie the Deep Sea Dragon to Cantha but that is far away.
Elona would come first with Kralkatorrik.
I am not going to answer any mount-related posts anymore. I don’t want to hijack this thread with that topic and to be honest I don’t see any reason to discuss this anymore (especially not when some posts are so entitled and arrogant in tone).
You don’t want mounts? I am fine with that. I still think they would benefit the game and I still want them. It doesn’t matter what you or others say, it won’t change my opinion on that topic.
The development time and costs that could be used for more relevant content to GW2. Also there’s no place for them because waypoints exist and nullify the need for mounts.
If you feel that GW2 NEEDS mounts, explain why. Otherwise it’s just a want.
I don’t want to answer to the other stuff because I find this discussion pretty exhausting, but I’ll answer this point:
The time to develop mounts is zero. They have the models already in game. They just need to make them available as mounts. I am pretty sure they could do all that work within a week, if they really want to. They don’t need running animations, they don’t need models, they don’t need some special stuff, it’s all there in game right now.
And I already said why I think GW2 needs mounts.
Waypoins, wayshrines, gryphons, it doesn’t matter – every MMORPG has some kind of quick travelling system (and nothing else are Waypoints).
There is a need for mounts as there is a need for waypoints. In the end I should choose what I want to use, not the game. I prefer riding my mount to the next spot than teleporting there. On my way to the next hub or city I could get into an event when I am riding by it, when I teleport I don’t have this option.
Why shouldn’t they have no place in GW2? That doesn’t make any sense imho. What would be the problem with having mounts in GW2?
(edited by Nyel.1843)
Mounts. I just want Mounts as a feature. And the new Elite specializations for sure.
Why do you want mounts, though, we have waypoints?
I can see some instances we could get a mount:
Junundu Wurms in the Desolation
Siege Golems
Charr Siege
AureneAnd these mounts would be instance , zone, or event- specific, not general open world mounts
I want mounts because I like mounts. I like collecting them and they look great. And there are soooooo many options in GW2 what could be a very nice and story-related mount.
I never understood why GW2 doesn’t have mounts. Yeah we have waypoints but every other MMORPG has waypoints as well – and mounts on top of that.
Tengu Ritualist. That’s what I want to play. Why? Because. Tengu are great and the GW1 Ritualist is my favorite class in the whole franchise.
This would be like Black Desert’s “desert zones”. I think it’s a nice concept that you need to deal with your environment to be successful there.
In Black Desert you need to craft tea that warms you up in the night, you need to take water with you and drink regularly etc. when you are in the desert – that’s a really nice, immersive concept I’d like to see somehow in GW2.
Mounts. I just want Mounts as a feature. And the new Elite specializations for sure.
Now that high resolution monitors are becoming more common, are there any plans to release wallpapers at up to 4k resolution? The artwork you guys create is really amazing but stretched out to 4k they don’t look so great. I would love to use these wallpapers but just can’t do it right now.
Same issue here.
I love, love, love the GW2 artworks and wallpapers, they’re just stunning and I have never seen so amazing wallpapers in any other MMORPG. That’s why I am really sad that there are no WQHD or 4k resolutions for these awesome pieces of art.
As long as it happens this year I am happy. Expansion 2 at the soonest next year would be… risky.
Why? This year the competition is gonna be really tough with both ff14 and eso releasing theirs and i dought gw2 can take on them both. Tbh i prefer having this lw season have like what? 8 to 10 episodes then the expansion to make sure they have the time they need. That way we get a quality product that brings the lvl of detail and quality this game has shown to be able to pull off.
FF14 and ESO release their expansions in June. So it would be smart to release the GW2 expansion in September / October / November when most players are already done with the other two expansions (Stormblood will have massive content but Morrowind is pretty small compared to other MMORPG expansions). To release an expansion 4-5 months after the competitors did is pretty smart because in that time frame won’t be any bigger game expansion for the next 6-12 months.
Battling in late 2018 with WoWs next expansion seems to be much harder than battling with half a year old FF14/ESO expansions.
around that time blizzcon happens in it of it self is a lighthouse for ppl to go play blizzard games
What?
Sure, Blizzcon is in November but there’s nothing huge by Blizzard being released around that time. Diablo 3 gets it’s new class within the next months, the next WoW expansion will be released in the end of 2018. There might be something new for Overwatch or a new content patch for WoW but that can’t really compete with another GW2 expansion when people are really interested in GW2.
Thanks!
But I think WQHD is not 4k, it’s 2560×1440. Just in between HD and 4k. I am a bit confused by all the different resolutions right now lol.
Thanks!
Most of them are either not WQHD or just enlarged HD wallpapers. That’s why I asked, maybe there’s a hidden source for them (I just wish ANet would add WQHD for their amazing wallpapers on their website).
Does anybody know some sites or has some WQHD GW2 wallpapers? I am using a WQHD Balthazar now and it looks amazing but it’s not my favorite type of wallpaper (red and orange and very “crazy”).
I dunno, only like… the entirety of the current LS3?
I just returned some weeks ago and haven’t touched LS3 yet.
I’d honestly be surprised if this is the case.
Why? Will only be one Dragon? I mean I suspect it’ll only be one (can release two smaller xpacks back-to-back, one for Jormag, one for Primordeus), but I bet they keep the general MO from HoT.
Another question: must it be either Jormag or Primordus? Where there hints in game that we’ll battle them next?
The thing is, I rather see Crystal Desert / Elona happening with Kralkatorrik right now – or am I wrong?
I’d say Mesmer. I always felt it’s the most difficult = most rewarding class in game.
As long as it happens this year I am happy. Expansion 2 at the soonest next year would be… risky.

It hasn’t even been announced yet. So we’re probably getting the announcement with the final episode of LS3 again, somewhere around autumn.
Then it’s a year or more until the xpack comes out, because as Crimson said they had too much negative feedback over the polish.
So either late 2018, or early 2019.
Or, more likely, RIP and in GW3.
This could be a reason why they delay the announcement, not the release. So announcement in early Summer, release end of the year seems reasonable when they’re polishing XPAC 2 right now and have figured out what are the features and the content.
Late 2018 or even 2019 (both are highly unrealistic in my opinion because it’s too late, even early 2018 would be late) would kill the game rather than having another semi-finished XPAC this year. At least we’ll have something in that scenario.
As long as it happens this year I am happy. Expansion 2 at the soonest next year would be… risky.
Thank you very much!
Sorry but what’s GotL? I just returned to the game and I don’t know what that is.
What about Revenant healers with Ventari? I planned on creating one, are they not competitive?
They’re fun as hell and really good at keeping people alive. Having played one a lot recently because my guild lets me play whatever I want, I find that they’re a middleground between elementalist and druid. To help out I’ve created a little pros/cons table below.
Elementalist
- Exceptional HPS (~5k)
- Weak burst heals
- No damage boosting modifiers
- Extremely low personal DPS (~800-1.4k)
Druid (Magi)
- Low HPS (~2.5k)
- Strong burst heals
- Exceptional damage boosting modifiers (GotL/Spirit/Spotter)
- Low personal DPS (1.2k-2.5k)
Druid (Condi)
- Low HPS (~1k)
- Weak burst heals
- Exceptional damage boosting modifiers (GotL/Spirit/Spotter)
- Good personal DPS (10k-12k)
Herald
- High HPS (~4k)
- Strong burst heals
- Mediocre damage boosting modifiers (AP)
- Decent personal DPS (3k-5k)
Amazing list, thank you very much!
What about Revenant healers with Ventari? I planned on creating one, are they not competitive?
Out of curiosity, what major MMOs have “remastered” without releasing a new sequel of the game? I’m not sure how I would even research the question, so I’m relying on other posters anecdotes.
My guess is that this is something that no game company has ever done.
Funcom is actually revamping The Secret World (adding “Legends” to the name).
Same game, same content, updated graphics, updated gameplay.
But everyone has to begin again, no character transferworld of warcraft did a “remaster” but only for the playable characters. Full HD taurens.. they became kinda kreepy though
Lord of the Rings Online is doing a character model revamp this year as well. The thing is, both games are old and look pretty dated, especially character models. That’s why both games (WoW in 2014, Lotro in 2017) got new character models.
Guild Wars 2 is still one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played due to its art style. I mean they could give us better / new character textures but anything else is more than fine. Spell effects are great (except maybe Revenant), the zones look amazing… I don’t see a reason for GW2 to remaster it’s game engine or graphics.
The xpac won’t be released in a long time. Some promised content from HoT is yet to arrive (Legendaries)
They could give us that until expansion 2 or they could simply add that into expansion 2.
I really think GW2 needs its second expansion this year and not later. October, November, but it needs to happen this year. Finishing Season 3 in July / August with the pre event of the expansion in September / October and the release in October / November seems doable for me.
My problem is that there’s absolutely no communication towards upcoming content or the expansion. They really need to talk to us rather sooner than later.
HoT was announced end of Januar 2015 and released in October – they still could announce XPAC Nr. 2 within the next 1-2 months and release it in November / December, couldn’t they?
Guild Wars 2 has an amazing art style and I am pretty impressed by the work of ArenaNet’s team when it comes to creating visual stuff, wallpapers and so on. I usually use recent GW2 wallpaper (mostly attached to the recent storylines in game) on my desktop.
Now here comes my problem: I just upgraded my 27’’ HD to an 32’’ WQHD screen. I really looked forward to this because it’s a “visual improvement” for me and I really wanted to see those beautiful GW2 wallpapers on my bigger screen… until I realised there are no wallpapers fitting my new resolution. They’re all 1920×1080 or 1920×1200 maximum size.
Why oh why?
I for one love this here especially https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/wallpapers/6a0da2014-08-12_DRp2-1920x1080.jpg because it’s just breathtaking. To not have it in 2560×1440 makes me really sad.
ANet, could you tell me why you don’t offer your wallpapers in bigger sizes than 1920×1200?
(Oh and I am sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum but I didn’t know where to post it otherwise)
(edited by Nyel.1843)
Great! I love content like this, thank you.
We only have Mace & Axe for condition damage, right?
And only Mallyx is useful when it comes to apply conditions, right?
That’s at least what it is when you look at it on quite a surficial way.
We totally need another (ranged) Condi weapon. Why do we have only 1 ranged weapon and only 1 weapon combination that’s focused on conditions?
A condition ranged GS would be nice.
Lets hope that will happen.
I like the idea of a trait just like the old Illusionary Persona from mesmers, but for the tablet. When you activate a skill on the tablet, it also creates the same skill effect on you, like if you are a second tablet.
Obviously this would need to be balanced, even more if made into baseline, but I guess it would help a lot the legend with its clunkiness and non-reliability while maintaining the micro management of the tablet that is the flavor of it.
Great suggestion.
And following the hammer logic, it will be a melee longbow.
Haha, you’re right.
Revenant lacks ranged combat. We need a Bow or maybe the Scepter – I would prefer some kind of “caster” range weapon instead of a bow.
Pluss im pretty sure during the twitchcon live streams on of the devs said their goal was to have at least 3 elite specs for each class in total BEFORE the next expansion
Oh, that sounds great.
Imho I think HoT is not going to last for 2 years. The whole topic is of the expansion is not that big to fill 2 years of story content.
I really would love to see new Elite specs in a reasonable amount of time.
The title say it all:
Will there be more Elite-Specs in HoT? Did ANet tell us something about that topic?
Elite-Specs are fun but not that special or surprising, as I thought. So, more to come in HoT?
