Making money in this game has never been easier. At release, having 5 gold was a princely sum and took more than a month to accumulate just by playing. Now, you can make 5 gold in an hour and that’s a pitifully low amount. On top of that, several currencies needed to make legendaries have become scarce (eg karma, map exploration) so that difficulty is also priced in.
The prices of legendaries reflect this inflation. Also, you have to remember that people who put up legendaries on the TP want a return on their investment. If it costs 2000g to make Twilight, selling for 2000g is not a smart decision. Depending on the player and how aggressive they are, they will want a 10-30% return on their investment. The legendaries on the TP aren’t there to serve you, they are investment vehicles for players who spent time and effort crafting a legendary weapon.
While the manipulator may loose money, he succeeded in manipulating nonetheless, and it’s very frustrating for people who want to get their precursor at fair price.
What is a fair price? The price of the precursor is set by it’s rarity, it’s utility and it’s demand. If precursors were being sold at 500g and also at 600g, then it means that the value of the precursor is at least 600g and those who sold at 500g threw their money away.
The market of precursors is set entirely by the players. If players are willing to shell out 600g for a precursor, then that’s the fair price. If it sells at 1000g, then that’s the fair price.
I’d love an invite.
Thanks!
Life’s not fair.
It’s as simple as that.
It sucks you can’t get the jetpack through a vendor currency, but there’s nothing you can do about that. Either farm the dungeon and quit your kittening or earn 100g+ to get the jetpack.
I haven’t gotten a jetpack yet either, but I’m not mad about it. That’s just the way the chips fall.
Telling people to buy them is ridiculous. Your asking me to make 700g in a reasonable time. As I need 350 for my weapon. This is not attainable even in a month.
No one is forcing you to get 350 lodestones; it’s your choice to go for a weapon that requires 350 charged lodestones.
sooooo what your saying is if i want to enjoy the game as much as people with no lives i must do only what maximizes my profits for the 8 hours a day i play so that i can be done with the game because im so angry by the time i attain said weapon? Don’t be ridiculous. The drop rates are simply too low on this item and there is no way to argue that. People farm them for that 3g per hour blah blah but it would be much more balances as the price would of the item if it were in greater supply. Also the weapon takes roughly 80 skill points and 250 each of ecto and ori and its not a friggin legendary. The majority of the community agrees that time/reward ratios are not what is going to keep people in a game.
Sounds like you just need to deal with it. If you want something bad enough, you’ll go through a lot of abuse to get it. Or just bust out the CC, buy some gems and convert it to gold. No one is forcing you to farm, no one is forcing you to play the TP, no one is forcing you to do anything you don’t want to do. You’ve put it into you own head that in order to enjoy the game, you need this weapon that requires 350 charged lodestones. And yet, you don’t have the stamina to actually get that weapon. You need to figure out what exactly it is you want to do with the game.

It’s on a RNG system. Some days you’ll have great luck, some days you won’t get anything.
Just this weekend, I traded in my CoF tokens for rares, got around 10 rares, and salvaged 14 ecots. A couple weeks ago, I got less than 10. It’s just the roll of the dice.
Secondly, as others have pointed out, ecto supply has never been higher due to guaranteed rares from world event chests. The price has plummeted from around 40s to 25s, although it has been creeping back up due to the announcement that you won’t be able to guest-harvest ectos anymore.
Make 40 orichalcum plated dowels. You should have tons of ori now, so much so that it’s literally overflowing your bank. 40 dowels gets you the achievement, then you can TP it for a decent hunk of cash or use it to craft exos and sell them. If it’s costing you money, it’s because you want to waste money.
Remember that you’ll make between 3 and 7 silver from the sigil/rune if you salvage that as well.
Of course not, but BLSK drop reasonably often from dailies. Ever since the laurels have come out, I’ve gotten 3 BLSK from the dailies, which is not too shabby.
It’s a prestige item. A month of dedicated money making will be more than enough to afford T3 cultural armor.
Here is the rationale for “fixing what is not broke” from a corporate standpoint:
1) Gem sales are down, so some mechanism is needed to increase revenue without it being overly obvious to the player base
2) In-game metrics show that AC was a very popular path for equipping exotics – maybe a little too popular (lower level toons saving tokens for their graduation to level 80, thus bypassing the TP)
3) Increase dungeon difficulty of AC to the extent that 5 level 35 toons in greens will probably rage quit
4) Frustrated lower level players (and even fully kitted 80s in exotics looking to outfit themselves in dungeon armor for pride and prestige)
5) Open wallet —-> buy gems —-> convert to gold —-> purchase exotics on the TP or the materials to craft them yourself.
6) Conclusion: more money for the corporation
I’m not even going to elaborate on the severe lag issues (new) and bugs (new and old) that continue to plague this dungeon and have yet to be acknowledged.
This is the most ridiculous post in this entire thread. With both the Jan and Feb content updates, Anet has made making money even easier than before. You have guaranteed rares from several world events. Each rare is worth between 25 and 35 silver and through salvaging, you can easily match or exceed this profit through ectos. With laurels, you have a guaranteed income of at least 2 gold/5 laurels from the 10 dye pack as well as having access to coin/karma/exp boosters, which were previously only available through the gem shop or BLC. Those boosters are insanely cheap too, at only 1 laurel each. Open world drops have never been better (which is not saying much granted); however, just by getting my daily gatherer achievement in Orr, I can pick up between 7 and 12 Heavy Moldy Bags, which is ~30 silver (~3s/ea on TP post) profit right there. That doesn’t include the T5 and T6 mats that drop along with the random porous bones + whites/blues/greens. If you don’t need ori/ancient wood, that’s easily another gold every day by selling those mats on the TP. Finally, the biggest money maker in the game, CoF P1, hasn’t been touched. Combined with an omnom bar + coin booster + gold infusion, you can pull in 75 silver/run + drops + end of dungeon reward. All in all, that equates to around 10-14 gold/hr, not to mention using the tokens to buy rares to salvage for ectos. In just two days of running CoF P1, you can easily buy 10 rares, which nets between 5 and 10 ectos. So add another 1.5 – 3 gold ontop of your earned earnings.
Money has never been easier to come by. The fact is that most high level stuff, outside of precursors, have been dropping in price. Lodestones have come down 10-15%, T6 mats have come down around 10%, pearl exotics have never been cheaper, ecto is down 15-20%, many sigils/runes are down 10-20%, etc etc.
No problems finding a group to do anything at any time of the night or day. I’ve done CM at 2am in the morning and CoE at 11am.
Just linking an event’s WP and saying which event it is will usually result in between 3 and 10 people showing up in a matter of minutes in most zones.
So yea, the game is doing just fine.
wait for the next wave of bots to drive down prices then profit bigtime when the bot banwave comes.
Just ran FOTM 20, got 4 rares + bunch of greens/blues. No cores/lodestones though.
prices are going to where they should be thanks to the absence of bots.
If you want powerful bloods you go to the southsun cove island and kill karka’s, you should get 5-15 per hour.
Idk how much validity there is in it, but rumor mill has it that was nerfed via the 2/13 server maintenance patch.
I personally haven’t spent any time in Southsun since they took away the rich ori node, but every single maintenance patch is claimed to have nerf some drop rate or another. None of the claims are ever true.
Not so sure about that. The Nov 15 update, for sure, reduced drop rates across the board. For the first 3 months, I unlocked ~100 dyes on my character. After that? Maybe 20. It’s gotten to the point where I’d rather just sell the unid dye and then buy the ones I want.
No one is using laurels fort 6 mats? Are they nuts? The prices should have plummeted to nothing by now.
You’re using Laurels for T6 mats?
That’s a bit… wasteful.
Glancing through what you can buy with laurels, if you don’t need the ascended items and aren’t trying for the minis or tonic, are those really that bad of an option?
yes, that’s an awful way to spend laurels. IMO, the best would be utility ascended amulet + gold infusion + laurel coin booster + gem coin booster (if stacks) + omnombar and farm P1 CoF for nearly double the gold returns and use that gold to buy T6 mats. Unless the price skyrockets to 50s or something insane like that, farming gold to buy T6 mats will be better than seeking out T6 mats.
Everything in the laurel merchant is essentially worthless other than the Ascended amulets/rings.
In fact, the only other things in the laurel merchant that might be worth buying are the coin/karma boosters since they are cheap.
But everything? Utter junk. 3 random mats? 2 profession specific items (rare and exotic)? None of these are worth the laurels. It just seems that the laurel vendor is a vehicle to sell you ascended equipment.
It is literally this one path in dungeons that makes warriors look OP. And that’s because the path is characterized by two easy bosses, a couple of easily skipped events and one kiting event.
In any other dungeon, a warrior brings as much as any other class to the table. CoF P1 is an outlier due it’s design and simplicity for farming.
not likely, since the utility infusions look to have a much bigger bonus than +5 stats. 15% gold stacking multipe times would ruin the economy.
I’ve found the opposite; drops are much better than they were on 1/27. I’ve gotten at least 30 T6 mats doing the two dailies + fractals today.
And Sunrise still doesn’t give the chest icon on character achievement screen…
It never has. Only Eternity gives the chest achievement.
You have a chance for a ring on daily completion per tier, but it’s by no means guaranteed. I’ve only gotten 2 rings in the daily in over 60 dailies.
ori should be going up now since the rich vein is gone.
crafting is easy, underwater kills are easy. Compared to finding 15 different types of enemies, these are a breeze.
I like this change just because fractals shouldn’t be the only way to get ascended gear; I’ve already got my two rings from fractals + capacitator as well, so it’s not like I’m averse to fractal running.
Really? The end of pugging? Melodramatic much?
It’s literally this one dungeon because of the layout/enemies. Every other dungeon needs a variety of classes in order to be run properly.
