Interrupted Heals - Guardian disparity

Shelter is the most susceptible heal to unblockable interrupts.
Having it go on full cooldown denying you the 2seconds block and the heal, it means you will probably not survive the next 30seconds, which is huge.

Some say use stability when you are going to heal,but if you have to use stability you may as well use the signet of resolve that heals for double the amount and if it gets interrupted you only get 3-4seconds of cd, not to mention the passive condition removal.

how much toughness/vitality is enough?

In Fractals is all about damage and Agony resistance, so i would suggest you go full berserker/dps and have around 2400 toughness and at least 13-14k hp to avoid one-shots early on.

At later levels 30+ nothing matters except for damage and dodging.

The MMR system if is done right should follow the following formula:

Playing against opponents at your own rating level or higher will give you more rating points if you win and take away less points if you lose, compared to playing against lower level ratings opponents.

Playing against opponents at a lower rating level will give you much less rating points if you win and take away much more points if you lose, compared to playing against same or higher level rating opponents.

Is this the case? Noone knows, maybe Anet can shed some light.

You are having delusions my friend. They won’t fix it any time soon.

The fact that it only works on specific pixels on the map when shot from specific angles and those points are not indicated in any form on the game for the players to know to use, it means this was not intended by the developers.

However, since they don’t know how to fix it and the fact there are more pressing matters to attend to, they leave it as is until they can find a way to fix it in the very very distant future (Give it a year or two).

With the last amazing patch, I think we are now ready for e-sports.
The viewership on twitch.tv has increased to 200 total viewers, so i expect sponsors and players interest to spike.

In dungeons such as fractals, using melee weapons is very risky, you get hit for huge amounts very regularly, so that means you have to be perfect at dodging and keeping an eye on bosses animations.

It’s best to use ranged weapons, you avoid cleave damage and the distance from the boss provides you a better visual of incoming attacks, allowing you to dodge in time when necessary. The damage avoidance also allows you to gear for more offensive stats,which means you are still a great dps asset with support.

Unfortunately we are stuck with the scepter so you have to use that.

This has been reported countless times,yet the developers ignore it for whatever reason.

Maybe Arenanet thinks that this trait is so overpowered and they ignore it.

It’s extremely unlikely that they’re just ignoring it. It’s possible that it’s not on their priority list, but there’s no way to tell. I’d like a good long blog post from Arenanet about their ideas and philosophy going forward and how they see each profession. I think it’s important for an MMO developer to communicate really well with their playerbase.

Then can you please explain to me why after 6 months, they have done nothing about it.
The community has reported the problem countless times both here,the bugs section,on other forums,the wiki, heck its even mentioned on the sticky post since day one, yet they have not posted a single time acknowledging the problem or said that they are working on it.

It’s one of our most important traits (A grandmaster trait at that), especially for pvp, yet nothing has been done up to this point to fix it. For me this means they are ignoring the problem.

I think Shelter was designed for WvW zerg fights. The amount of damage you block in a zerg ball is likely way higher than the signet can heal. It also serves as an OH CRAP button if you get out of position. Being feared out of the heal is pretty stupid though and should be fixed -.-

Yeah, unblockable fear forcing your heal onto cooldown is overpowered. Unblockable skills is bad design in the first place, but if you are going to make something unblockable, it shouldn’t make shelter go on full cooldown. I’m hoping that was unintentional and will eventually be fixed, if the devs are even aware of it.

In my opinion the Shelter should give a heal buff that heals you overtime for the duration of the shelter,so that even if you get interrupted out of it you will still get your heals.

This way if you get an unblockable ability that interrupts you during casting it,which is very easy to do in one on one combat, you will lose your block time but at least you will get your healing.

No other healing ability has this problem of getting a full cooldown when interrupted.
You can get interrupted by Necro’s Fears, by some abilities that knockdown or space control like a guardian’s Hammer #5 Ring of Warding, or pull you from your place like Mesmer’s Focus #1 ability “Temporal Curtain” – “Into the void” and so on.

The cooldown should be 5seconds less i think.
You can get interrupted when you cast it by some abilities that are unblockable and not only do you get interrupted but you get a full cooldown as well.

Just because it doesn’t work 50% of the time or whatever due to a bug,doesn’t mean the ability isn’t overpowered. Underwater it’s ridiculous,because the ranger can move around and the pet heals you even if it’s dead.The heal is so much that you need 3-4 or more people dpsing to kill him.

There is no doubt that eles are too strong atm.
No wonder good teams run at least two of them and sometimes even three.
Try killing two eles that constantly heal each other meanwhile doing massive aoe damage and knockbacks constantly to everyone. If one gets low and in danger, he rides the lightning,disengage for 5seconds and comes back full health.

Thi is obviously not intended by design and I see many mesmers now using it,breaking the balance of the map.There are more than one spots that this may happen.

Please be more specific with your description, such as what ability is being used,exact location and so on.
Adding screenshots or a video and steps to reproduce the “exploit”, will help the development team identify the problem as easily as possible.

I have to agree with most of what Brutal has mentioned in his first post.

From a PvP perspective:
Symbols take too long to activate and are very small (ex. Greatsword rooting you in place,before you even finish casting the enemy is far away).
Symbols take too many traits to make it even worth and even then they are worthless because most of your allies and opponents are not gonna stand inside them more than a mere second. Make the symbols large naturally and give the full boon duration is a great idea to fix this.

Also you are forced to play with 30 points in valor,either for meditation or Altruistic healing both for tanking and dps specs, which makes builds less diversified.
The Zeal line is horrible past 10points, especially after the last patch that our spirit weapons have been given the TRASH award.

We get easily kited around,even with the sword’s teleports and Judge of intervention it’s really hard to stay in melee, when most classes have a abundance of abilities that apply cripple or constant swiftness,25% speed increase passives and very short teleport cooldowns.
When I play with my dps guardian i find myself using the scepter more often than the sword/greatsword.

Our scepter is a melee weapon with range 300, good luck hitting a moving target beyond that.
Staff needs a rework, the symbol is buggy and in some situations it gives 1second of swiftness only or none at all. The #2 orb ability always gets stack into the enviroment and it’s just not fun to use.
Line of warding takes way to long to cast and has a short duration. 2 seconds of cast while you are immobile for a line that lasts 5 seconds. By the time you cast it the enemy has already crossed over.

Anyways I’m rambling too much, basically I hope Anet reads brutals post and make some changes. Our weapons abilities and symbols in particular need to be more interesting and fun to use, not frustrating.

Shield vs. focus?

Shield is a group oriented offhand, but it’s only good if you take the trait for it.
You get a total of 151armor,protection for the whole team and a knockback with a decent heal.
Focus doesn’t need a trait to be good,but it’s a more solo oriented offhand.

For PvE don’t bother with the torch, if you are using 1handers on both weapon sets then get the shield and focus. The torch is lackluster.
For PvP choose Focus first and then either torch or shield, they are both good,you just trade more burst for more group utility.

They need to homogenise downstates, because at the moment some classes such as eles,mesmers and thieves have a huge advantage with their downstate.
Basically you have to dps to kill them, especially the thief otherwise it takes three tries to stomp him.
Compare that to a guardian,ranger or a necro downstate. They get one interrupt that can be countered by invurnerability(ex. mist form stomp),blind,stability,block,stealth and what not.

Retaliation/bunkers

They already nerfed retaliation and guardian retaliation uptime quite a lot.
It’s fine as it is now.

In PvP (basically inside PvP maps):
Retaliation deals 177 damage per hit with the base power of 916.
It increases by +1 damage for every ~18.94 power above that.
If an attack does not land (blocked,reflected etc.) you won’t get hit by retaliation.

A Bunker guardian with clerics amulet has around 1560power,so his retaliation will hit for 211 damage per hit.
A Dps guardian with soldiers amulet and power runes has around 2100power,so his retaliation will hit for ~239 damage per hit.
In both cases,without using the greatsword,there is barely any retaliation uptime.

I don’t think smite needs to grant any boons,but it needs to be turned into a symbol.
Make it an aoe symbol that can benefit from traits and we are good to go.
Well we could use some projectile speed increase to our scepter autoattack as well.

If you want to use shouts for condition removers, unfortunately you are forced to use Superior Runes of the Soldier 6 set bonus (Shouts remove a condition) and avoid using Pure voice because it’s a waste of a trait at the moment.
It’s sad that after 6months this very important trait has not been addressed yet.

Unfortunately you did.
The burning condition ticks every 1second,so if you can’t reach the next second then no damage is dealt.
For example lets say you got an ability that does 1second of burning, if you reach +90% condition duration that will get it up to 1.90sec duration,then only 1 tick will go off.

The +% burn duration can help with the Fiery Wrath trait in the Zeal line,to keep the extra +10% damage.

Correct, the lobbies themselves are not merged, they only meet up when you go to play. You can still invite people across lobbies for games as long as they’re on your server though (Na or Eu).

I’m on Stormbluff now, and people are coming in/out of paids.

Don’t you see the problem with that?

Because Heart of the Mists are not merged, it is difficult for players to find and set up teams. If the lobbies were merged between Homeworlds, people can organize together more easily.

Totally see your point, I’m just explaining how it works so that everyone understands.

We have solutions to this coming down the pipe.

Until that solution is live, I suggest any player that wants to get into pvp to guest on the servers Anvil Rock (For NA players) and on Desolation (For EU players).
They have by far the biggest active pvp population from any other server.
It’s like a “merge” done by the players themselves.

If you notice the flames icon,you will notice there is a number 4 in white next to it.
The tooltip includes the entire duration of the zealot’s flame.
The zealot’s flame applies burning to nearby enemies around every second for 4 seconds.

Player Representatives for the PvP Community

You do not need representatives or anything of that sort.
The developers gather information in many ways and forms.
They have their own statistics and data, feedback/information gathered from forum discussions(both official and fanbased) and the live discussions with top teams players.
If they require more methods to gather data or feedback then they would had done so by now.

Having said that, what I think they could do, is to have a private forum and invite only “top” players there to discuss upcoming balanced based changes in detail directly with the developers, like blizzard has for starcraft 2.
I know everyone is biased,but nevertheless top players that understand classes more than your average bear,I believe will be able to offer better feedback, without the need to filter through all the rage and stuff.

Sadly,the fastest way to kill a downstate thief is to dps him down OR if you have a teleport ability,like the guardian Judgement Intervention, you can start stomping him and when he teleports you teleport as well killing him instantly.

It’s to filter out bad people. Maybe you’ve never played free tournaments, but usually I end up facing a team of rank 1s 90% of the time.

I have NEVER paid for tickets and I have more than I will ever need sitting in my bank just from dailies and crafting.

That’s where Matchmaking rating comes into play.
If you have an MMR system then strong players play strong players and lower ranked players play players at their level.
It’s not fun when you stomp people or get stomped all the time.
Most fun matches come when the two teams are closely matched and the game has up and downs.

Imagine you are a bronze player in starcraft 2 meeting grandmaster players all the time or vice versa, wouldn’t that put you both off?

This is why MMR is the most important thing this game needs now.
When you have this in place,then people of all levels can enjoy the game, the community will grow healthily and after that other features such as custom arenas,new maps and game modes can be added.

Spirt Weapon Guardian

Spirit Weapons do not benefit from your stats unfortunately, or if they do,they scale extremely poorly. I tested it with no gear/amulet on and with full gear,traits and amulet focused on power and critical chance/damage and the difference in damage was marginal if there was any.

Also burning caused by the" fire inside" trait in the radiance tree seems to be based on the spirit weapon’s condition damage and is not affected by the guardian stats.
They always cause 528 damage from burning with that trait.

Also keep in mind that spirit weapons have huge cooldowns(you have to time in the actual cooldown and their duration,because the cooldown starts only when they die ), a long casting time and due to the Zeal line being useless that you are forced to invest in,you will feel very weak while you don’t have them out.

Having said that, If you are actually going to invest in spirit weapons, then make sure you get the following traits:

Eternal Spirit – Spirit weapons are not destroyed when commanded.
Spirit Weapon Mastery – Spirit weapon skills recharge 20% faster.
A Fire Inside – Spirit weapons cause burning.
(This doubles their damage, especially the hammer that hits 3times each time)
Improved Spirit Weapon Duration – Spirit weapons last 50% longer.

I’m having the same problem, the projectiles 99% of the time miss,they never hit any of the targets even if they pass through them.
The only situation in which they do hit a target (or so it seems) is if you are standing on the same spot as the target, that is to say INSIDE the target.

Bunker Guardians: How to Counter

How to counter a bunker ele or guardian: IGNORE THEM.
A Guardian bunker is like a brick,he can’t really do anything apart from standing still,so ignore him and have fun doing 5vs4 fights.Focus their dps allies first and once they are down, he will eventually go down if you are 2+ people.

Don’t fight alone against a bunker, you are wasting time that could be spend elsewhere and even if you manage to kill the bunker it took so long that it wouldn’t be worth it. Always attack as a group of 2+ against a bunker.
