Paz Shadow.9715

The new Meta for rangers in zergs is commander hunting, serious. KA a JQ guild does it along with a few others and I have had the pleasure of being a part of the experience at times. It is deadly. A group of five rangers running with a zerg, they target the commander and run lb with piercing arrows and eagle eye, and all single target dps the opposing commander. Forces the commander to blow all his skills and play defensively or get downed. It is extremely successful in large zerg warfare since it is five people constantly single targeting the commander. Plus as a ranger you can do it from 1500 range where you are safe from harm.

LB Marksman Trait Line

in Ranger

Posted by: Paz Shadow.9715

Paz Shadow.9715

It’s been said many times before, but please help lb builds by putting some of the essential traits in different lines. Read the Wind, Sig of Beast, Piercing Arrows, and Eagle eye imo are all absolutely essential for the LB to be even viable especially with zerker based builds… Skirmish for example just has quick draw for LB and nothing else that really matters with it. /cry

Maybe I am hoping too much but what if read the wind was actually a perma quickness while wielding a bow XD

But actually part of my complaint is the fact that we have SO many longbow skills in the marksmanship trait line it is really detrimental to have to choose between them…

"New Elite Skill"

in Ranger

Posted by: Paz Shadow.9715

If that originally signet were to happen, I think it should be “pet instantly downs and ranger instantly revives” or something among those matters like a sacrifice… too weak an elite to do what search and rescue does.

Hm… turtles. That is all.

But serious, I rerolled a guardian a while back and use him when rallying with the guild and doing wvw zerging, but aside from that I enjoy roaming on my ranger, doing small skirmishes and exploring on my ranger. PVE in general class regardless should be fairly easy, and I like the fantasy aspect of being a bow wielding ranger so that is why I play ranger. In the competitive aspect (wvw for me) I honestly believe that one day ranger will have its day and my full ascended ranger will be able to pew-pew just like I dreamed XD

Proposed change: Longbow 5

in Ranger

Posted by: Paz Shadow.9715

Paz Shadow.9715

I would go in the opposite direction and even say that Longbow needs one more aoe skill aside from #5 to be more functional, there are so many occasions when I pop #5, and find myself desperately wishing I had another aoe to drop on a group instead of pew-pew from far away and having the arrows miss 50% of the time. Each skill on the longbow is extremely useful in its own situation so I am not sure I would make drastic changes to any of the longbow skills, but maybe a new skill that allows “splash damage” when wielding a bow would be nice.

Something similar to splinter shot from gw1: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Splinter_Shot

Does Ranger Need Moar Stealth?

in Ranger

Posted by: Paz Shadow.9715

Paz Shadow.9715

Yeah, there was actually a skill called “camouflage” that is in GW2 currently that gives you stealth until you move. That would be a very cool skill for a ranger to have in a skill slot. “Hide in Plain Site” actually uses the camouflage skill.

Green Eye of Grenth | PR Officer | JQ

Does Ranger Need Moar Stealth?

in Ranger

Posted by: Paz Shadow.9715

Paz Shadow.9715

Yeah, on one hand there is the issue that more stealth is going in a bad direction for a lot of players, but on the other hand one can argue that while stealth is there we might as well try and benefit from it. What about a spirit that gave % chance to stealth on hit? Too OP? Maybe Lightening Reflexes would be good with stealth: Evade back with a crack of lightning, gaining stealth and vigor instead of the odd damage it does. Or even Sharpening Stone, Stalker’s Strike or Serpent’s Strike I could see having a stealth aspect applied to them that could work well.

Good points all round though, was just throwing an idea out there!

Does Ranger Need Moar Stealth?

in Ranger

Posted by: Paz Shadow.9715

Paz Shadow.9715

With lb #3 being introduced with stealth and the Remorseless trait being implemented, the door is wide open for possible skills that could involve stealth… Now I’m not saying we should become thieves but one skill I had in mind would work great with stealth and would seriously help power builds. What if Anet added 3 seconds of stealth the the active trait of Signet of the Hunt? This would work extremely well with longbow power signet builds when used with Remorseless.

Thoughts?

I just feel like ranger with beserker compared to other classes is missing something, the burst damage may be what it is though. pre quickness nerf rapid fire was a real burst it was a machine gun, now it is a fast pew pew but dodge-able.

Paz Shadow.9715

I have played beserker ranger and want it to be a good build so desperately (in wvw) but the more I play it the more disappointed I get with it. There are so many things going against rangers to be good with beserker gear, but the three that stick out the most are pets have % of our damage but don’t scale with our stats, too many useful traits in marksmanship which force rangers to make big sacrifices (extra range, or piercing arrows) and lb even with updates still is weak. Does anet have any plans to help with beserker rangers?

I am not the best ranger but it is really frustrating playing the class when you can get out dps’d by a warrior ranged build (rifle or lb)

Need help with wvw zerg build

Paz Shadow.9715

I liked the link you both showed, it was exactly what I am looking for.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNBhYDbkoKxuvyxC1OQseQo9Po2DOZpz7K4/UWRDWTF-j0xAo8ARfCUOvIaslxioxq0Jiq1LYe8ioVLDAzYA-w

That build was from the link you guys sent me and it is definitely what I am looking for.

Here is my question: The commander who wants a good ranger build for people to run specifically wants entangle as the elite, which leaves me with three other skills to be put in slots (healing is going to be healing spring).

The commander really wants ranger to have the roll of cc, so I do not want to go too heavy with signets but I understand that signets with stability, and invulnerability are important skills that are going to be hard to give up. I think the build needs a stun breaker as well.

If you had to choose three out of the following, which would you choose: signet of stone, signet of wild, frost trap, qz, lr, muddy terrain.

In general, I like the PVT build with 30/0/30/10/0 in traits. Key things traited are signet of beastmaster, signet mastery, bark skin, and wilderness knowledge, and nature’s protection. I like the spotter trait which helps out the group, and I like martial mastery for the weapon skill reduction…. another question, sword on auto-target of have auto-target disabled?.

Like the build you all linked, runes of melandru makes sense and will be recommended as well.

ty for all the help so far guys btw ^-^

Need help with wvw zerg build

in Ranger

Posted by: Paz Shadow.9715

Paz Shadow.9715

Hi all, for those of you who run with zergs, what build do you run? The wvw group I am trying to figure out a build for is going to be a group of 25-30 people, probably one to three rangers in the zerg. Anyone have any idea of a solid build?

What I was thinking was a ranger melee cc build:

Armor could be a knights armor with soldier trinkets.

Main hand is greatsword, second is axe/warhorn.

Skills would be healing spring, muddy terrain, LR/QZ, and frost trap, with elite being entangle.

traits could be some sort of 0/20/30/20/0 build?

Any sort of advice/direction would be welcomed. I know ranger and zerg don’t go hand in hand, but I wasn’t sure if anybody here has a solid build that gives good damage, good survivability, and gives something to the zerg.

Rangers are really that bad?

in Ranger

Posted by: Paz Shadow.9715

Paz Shadow.9715

Ranger isn’t easy mode, so being a good ranger is about as impressive as it gets. I’m not saying I’m a good ranger, but like other people have said nothing feels better to beat somebody and have them pm you saying “dang I never knew ranger could hit that hard” or “wow you surprised me for being a ranger”…

As far as pve goes, ranger is extremely fun, and tbh in wvw I think ranger has its place as well. You can make real nice ranger cc melee builds to run with front lines in zergs, or you can spec other builds (beserker, settlers, rabid, knights…) and make a good roaming ranger. If you enjoy the idea of a ranger, and want to play a ranger type of class, then this will be a good class for you.

Plus, perma minis!!! You can’t beat that, no other class has perma minis, and we get a great selection of minis as well. I like to use the canines personally.

One of the more popular ranger builds currently being utilized is rr/w, or “reroll warrior”.
Kidding
In all seriousness, I enjoy zerker build gs/lb, having 1500 range on lb gives you the ability to go a bit more squishy and the gs is an amazing mobility/defense weapon. Use signet of beastmaster for more defense and you have a strong build if played well.

Eagle Eye: This trait now indicates the damage increase in its facts.

Sharpened Edges: Fixed a bug that caused this trait to display an incorrect chance on critical hit.

Intimidation Training: Updated this trait to display on the activated abilities for the Jungle Spider and Black Widow pets.

Entangle is a great skill to have with the zerg, along with muddy terrain it can mess up the routine of the other zerg and you will hopefully snag a few people in the process. I think areas like that, and with small groups of five on five skrimishes, is where the skill shines. With 1v1 imo it is not a good elite skill to have.

I run duel dogs power build with lb/gs, so I have 3 chances to activate moment of clarity which is nice but while running dogs there are so many scenarios where my pets interrupt with a knockdown and I wish moment of clarity would activate at those times as well. I feel allowing pets to activate moment of clarity is a small change to the skill that could have a nice buff to some power builds, giving people more chances to activate that skill. Also, since moment of clarity gives a damage buff to both me and my pet it should be able to be activated by my pet as well.

So, pretty much this is what t1 looks like right now…

I would have liked the update if it worked as intended which imo was to have small havoc groups, in addition to just camp flipping, be able to control and skirmish over these areas. The new terrain is meant for small group skirmishing that seems pretty apparent compared to the open field areas meant for zerg on zerg battles. Instead, we are going to have groups of 30+ running just in the ruins while roamers will have even less of an impact than they did before.

Hopefully things will die down within the first week, but who knows.
