I don’t play too much PvE, I’d say my main game mode is PvP closely followed by WvW so you may expect me to be somewhat satisfied with the hammer or the scrapper.

Lets just say that HoT provided me with just enough value to request a refund… (maybe in a few months it might be worth my time).

So I guess this supports Lord Dark Flare’s point. My old build baseline engi is far better (at least for me) than anything new.

So where are all these new runes?

I’m rocking a pistol/shield, sinister/balthazar, Rboots/flamer/Egun build.

Dmg is through the roof and my defense comes from lots of blinds and heals (bunker down, elixir shell, flash shell, super elixir, vent smoke, static shot.

Yes, even if your turret is half a mile away, so long as you are stood in a field, you will trigger a blast finisher and it’s effect is centred on you.

Yup, it took me ages to get used to the balance patch. I went from owning the owned overnight but I’ve settled in now and got my mojo back. You need to adapt and overcome.

Hmm, I use flamethrower, elixir gun, rocket boots, Mortar. It’s awesomeness bottled in elixir form… then thrown!

I can normally held up well when outnumbered. Blindness is a blessing :-D

Also, protection (from shield traits) plus frost armour is sick defense.

2)healing tower needs to be either picked up or blasted to optimise healing.

3)profit

Combo whilst moveing; Deploy healing turret (whilst spamming #6 to)>overcharge healing turret>detonate healing turret.

Yeah, more likely soldiers gear, explosives and firearms.

In fire arms you can get +20% crit and permanent fury along with say… Runes of the Pack. So 50% crit rate before sigils along with soldiers defense.

Pretty solid.

Oh and blind fields. Smoke bomb, flash shell etc can mitigate a tonne of damage.

Firearms can massively boost your crit chance at close range and if you’re throwing your nades at your feet, you won’t miss the velocity… Not sure if the 10% dmg from explosive powder would make up the margins.

Also grenades inflict alot of none damaging condis along with bleeds, which combos well with modified ammunition…

Explosives is definitely a power line now so traiting else where is always gonna benefit condi gear.

I’m not using either bombs or grenades anymore thinking about it… I still use mortar but that’s more for the heal and blind field for close skirmishes, poison field for downed foes and reaching out where my pistol and EG can’t reach.

I don’t think I was ever a huge fan of the GK anyway. It just used to be stupid not to.

TL;DR it’s okay but not a no brainer anymore. I always start my build with firearms first atm then look into tool/alchemy/inventions for the utility synergies I’m after.

I’ve given up. Anet hates gadgets only slightly less then turrets!

Gadgeteer is worse then it used to be! The cooldowns should be baseline to the trait and the overcharged effects should be procced for ‘X’ seconds after using the utilities F# skill.

There could at least be 1 other minor or major trait that effects them in some way…

so I launch battering ram, for ‘X’ seconds after this, using PBR will recieve a boosted launch distance etc.

I love gadgets and never go anywhere without my rocket boots.

in a vacuum gadgets are great but compared to anything else after trait are applied… sadface!

this is me atm.

there are some elixirs in there, hidden flask, eg#4&5, elixir shell.

PvE i go all sinister but mix in a few celestial in wvw… i’m a hybrid kina guy though.

You could do this with dire/rabid for full condi I supose but mortar rounds, elixir bomb, flame blast, hell! even poison dart volley can benefit from the power.

Is P/P viable for PvP?

sure it is.

Just remember the basics though.

PP is a mid range skirmish style you need some defense. As meantioned, rabid/carrion ammulet will give you some physical defense. Personally I’m a fan of rampager and make use of active defences.

Toolkit is excellent for PP. Think; pull>prybar>blowtorch>escape mechanism

ecape can be elixirgun’s acid bomb or a flamethrower knockback… if you’re crazy, like me, you can run rocket boots :P

tl;dr sure it is, whatever works best for you.

Right, I know this isn’t a game bug. It’s a developer bug. He’s bugged out and won’t make coated bullets base line on the pistol.

Not sure how to correct a Dev bug…. Maybe packet of biscuits would cheers him up enough to give us back our trait… You know, the one that’s always been baseline for rifles.. And the rifle did get its rifled barrels…

Not saying I want rifled barrels but just coat my bullets Mr Dev…
Maybe some hobnobs in it for you :-D

grenade kit question

not 100% sure exactly what you’re asking but I think I get the crux of it.

With the trait Streamlined Kits in the Tools trait-line, equiping the grenade kit drops a proximity mine at your feet. This trait has a 20 sec internal CD.

In terms of “doing something” with it… like any mine, bait melee into it, knock back foes into it or just hope they brain-fart their way onto it. It’s not the best kit swap ability.

Hope this clarifies it for you.

It’s okay I guess but we aren’t as short on condi clear as we used to be and there may well be much better rune effects out there.

Atm I’m using explosives/inventions/alchemy.

If I get condi bombed to anywhere below 75% health, hit HT combo and I get 5 condis cleared (one of which is transmuted) and that still leaves 3 or 4 more single condi clears off CD. Using strength runes but I could be very happy with holbrek to stack with mecha legs…

TL;DR – sure it can work but try and maximise your on weapon swap effects ;-)

A few vocal… I can’t count how many folk complain ingame about it. A number if my guild mates have given IP on this game and asked me to let them know whenbthe lag issues are sorted so they can return. It doesn’t help that everyone raising this concern is getting ignored.

I don’t want a dissertation on the problem.

A “yes, we done ducked up and its being worked on” would be enough.

Anyway, my latest efforts have involved a DNSflush and yet more advanced settings on my router (no more floating port etc).

Still getting spikes.

I played CS :GO all last night because I couldn’t face it and guess what? Ping at 12… It spiked up to 15 at one point! Oh the horror #sarcasm.

Have a multiplicative total… Can’t be bothered doing math on my coffee break but it would be about 75% regen with both active…. That wouldnt be game breaking, would it?

I was going to start a thread discussing endurance regen outside if the tools trait line but this is a relevant topic.

Other than sigil of energy or RNG toss elixir H, I’m struggling to think of sources of vigor…

(due mostly to wanting to move from exp/alch/tool to exp/alch/inv without giving up my sigils)

I already have a smorgasbord of aoe as an engi, whatever build I go for but fire/strength have been my go recently.

I actually like this change as it’s made me think outside of tools, moving into inventions and taking energy/strength instead.

Maybe keep a rifle with fire/strength for pve stuff though.

So since the large patch in June I’ve been suffering from massive ping spikes and regular disconnects (usually just at the end of an instance or middle of a pvp match).

It’s making every element of the game almost impossible to stomach except for openworld pve…

I love this game sooo much but there’s not a chance I’m buying the Xpac <insert kitten here> until these issues are resolved.

Ping ranges from 40 to 18xx at its highest in unstable spikes. Disconnects with errors stating that client had lost connection to the server.

I have run packet loss test, no problem visible.
Isp have run line tests, no problem.
I have run multiple speed tests to multiple servers, no problem.
I have ensured portsharing is correct on my router.

Still suffering.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hip Shot: Increased the range to 1200.
Net Shot: Increased the range to 1200.
Blunderbuss: Increased the range to 700.
Overcharged Shot: Increased the range to 600.
Jump Shot: Increased the range to 800.

Praise the devs…. now sort out the ping spikes kitten bags

I can fix many things… Cat 3 and 4 airframe damage, advanced composite damage… even gas turbine blade blending & balancing!

But I cannot fix skill quing… and neither can anyone at Anet….

It’s been reported since day one after the (big) patch. Must have something to do with the rubbish servers and random ping spikes… or it mustn’t!?!?!

I’ve been going trough this too… Done packet loss test, speed ping test on my connection, Port sharing on my router, the lot.

Now it randomly flicks from 10 -1500… I posted previously like everyone else. Nothing back.

Thing is, E-gun is quite good for acid bomb. Can hit like a truck and healing power is still a bit underuseful… Is that a word? It is now!

Notice that hgh and toolbelt CD reduction from tools stack on elixir f# skills. Very low stunbreak and moa…

I’ve been playing with the idea of using self regulating defence, swapping elixir s for rifle turret and selecting static discharge… But that’s 1 less stun break and the auto s can be more of a burden than a benefit.

In short, lots of might, fury, vigor, passive endurance regen, 3 stunbreaks (albeit one of those is auto proc)…

On a note, with 0 condi dmg and lots of might, burning still hurts.

I know what you mean mate… I’ve found myself having to disengage time after time recently… But it’s the difference between 5 points given so you do right.

Never liked it much but elixir x is looking better and better…. Not only for the massive hp boost if you need to get the phoock out of dodge but for the transform… Can shut down that mesmer (taste of their own medicine) etc…

I love the mortar kit but ‘X’ is lookin better and better…

IDK I’m still finding my own way post patch. Until you find your thing, keep running ;-)

Toughness doing nothing is the last straw.

Runes of the forgeman do on being hit.

I’ve had some good performance from them with carrion gear. They also increase duration. Protection on shield skill and protection injection give a very high protection uptime.

Also buffs burn duration a little too.

Thank GOD I am not crazy. I have been rolling FlameThrower in both PvE and PvP to great success.

The only thing I am not sure of is Flamethrower aa. Is it as improved as it seems or am I crazy after all?

Flame Jet is still seriously awful and shouldn’t be used.

However, target lock can make it a potent counter stealth tool.
