If Juggernaut, then an offensive elixir like U.
If IP, a defensive one like S.

Just to add, I’m having the same issue.
Tested my broadband connection and everything is running slick.
In gw2, however, 50-500 and fluctuates as high as 1200.

It’s very frustrating and makes pvp unplayable… My favourite game mode.

Thing is dude, I use traits to get an effective 44% crit chance most if the time, which is enough for condi/hybrid. Also a great protection uptime to mitigate low armour.

Vee my frand ;-) , I do agree with the weakness of bombs in condi builds. I’ve been a big fan of the condi changes overall but I am too disappointed with the lack of condi traits in explosives and also the silly model/animations for the BK :-P

Though strictly speaking, I’m running a hybrid build anywhooo.

I do use ft/eg, carrion/forge as a team support role. Eg5, mortar5 aoe condi cleanses, fumigate, downed pressure pressure, elixir u! For turbo fast ressing and protective walls, also lots of aoe protection.. lots of aoe might.

Very effective in team play.

My guildies do the face melting.

Alright princess, calm down.

Only pointing out that it can. There are ticks from jet too that add up with the duration combo’s. (5 secs with 2 and a bit sec casting is achievable).

“Ofc it does some burn but what enemies to you fight that eat more than 2 napalm ticks?”

Someone who has burned there defensive cooldowns.
Good combo pull>slickshoes>napalm>whatever

I like to save IA for mid to late fight personally.

I’m definitely glad for this fix as FT has always been my favourite kit and bit more of the wiggly orange stuff is always welcome.

Well you’ll find a great deal of proc on crit abilities that work very well for a condi build, bleed, vulnerability, burn, bunker down, sigils that crit chance is quite handy.

As power is relatively low (unless you’re rocking carrion)
You don’t really need to stack and ferocity.

I do use carrion atm but my crit chance is augmented to 34% vs bleeding foes and fury. That should be plenty to proc things like IP with ICDs.

I’ve been running rampager/sinister in pve but for pvp, atm

I’ve found carrion with runes of the forge as I stack burns and have a good number of sources of protection, it makes the low toughness less of a burden.

In summary.. Burning and blocking!

Here’s the short version ;

Forgive any kitten ing for pointing out the obvious.

So gear choice… Carrion gives power and condi… kitten .

Which is ideal as the two kit choices are flamethrower and toolkit, which scale well with both providing strong condis in burn and confusion… kitten .

Sigil of corruption because, " hell, I ain’t dyin’, dat be yo job!"

Sigil of strength… 4% crit… Bear with me on this one. All will become clear.

Pistol and shield. Yeah, tasty conditions…kitten … no flame shot but a 1 sec block that will inflict burning… All will become clear later.

Utility goggles for reveal and 10 vul stacks. Very potent… Oh and it stun breaks to boot. kitten .

Healing turret for short cooldown aoe heal that can be blasted in with shield4 and ft2 for extra if needed.

Supply crate for aoe stun, more aoe burns and the F5 is great for loading up a point with heals and it can act like an extra healing turret combo if you’re desperate.

Runes of the guardian. This plus the shield gives us a nice bit of toughness so the even nicer vitality pool doesn’t deplete too fast.

Now the burn on block is what’s cool here. 1 sec per block… And wes gots blocks.

Traits.

Tools because reduced cooldowns on analyse, incendiary ammo, throw wrench (which is a projectile finisher… Think ft4 combo).

This trait line gives the endurance you need without having to think about it. Adrenal implant give constant vigor (effectively) that can’t be boon stripped or corrupted and with vigor on toolbelt you end up with around 75% endurance regen.

Power wrench, more blocks, more survivability and mawr burns. Thank you Mr runes.

Target lock… Because thieves and Mesmers need to die horribley.. And stay dead! Makes flame jet a more potent tool.

Inventions. Sustainability.

Over shield again means more blocks, more survivability and mawr burns! Thanks again Mr runes!
Aswell, more reflects and blast finishers for healing or might. Whichever you want.

Mecha legs because what self respecting engineer doesn’t want robotic legs?

Bunker down… But you still only got 4% crit! You crazy!… All will become clear later. For now. When you are critting, the mine can be doing around 1k and healing a nice chunk. Along with crates F5 you can end up with lots of heals dropped about.

Oh and the minors give an extra ago condi cleanse, meaning turret can do 3 aoe every 15 seconds, nice.
They give a total 350 healing power under the effect of regen (with the runes Too).

Firearms.. This. Is. My. Boooooom. Stick!

Right so because we’re a bit tanky with some sustain (some), we cam get into the fray and this can be a good thing when your 3 sec block sets the world on fire! And because we get close we can get a free 10% crit chance for the first trait then because we got plenty of bleeds (firearms minor, box of nails, frag shot) most of the time you’ll get another 10, then with goggles and no scope (as well as boons from allies) throwing fury around you can easily have 44% crit for quit a while.

So sigil of strength and bunker down won’t go to waste. Especially with the number of hits coming from flame jet.
15 stacks is piecemeal with fire blasts, Juggernaut and strength.

Lastly, Juggernaut over incendiary ammo. (the latter is fine in pve but…) with one stunbreak and cc being king ofvthe hill atm the stability is invaluable! Both for keeping the damage flowing and securing stomps.

Also, it’s always worth swapping to flamer and using vent smoke mid stomp just incase.

Think that’s everything…

Now if everyone will please give me aegis and we’ll get along just fine :-D

Actually, jump shot off the archway in mid at temple of silent storm only does a tiny amount of falling damage (which the trait reduces anyway), I like to netshot>jumpshot to start the combo.

Whilst I prepare the attack, I’m normally ranging with mortar. Legacy, jump shot into mid from close\far normally procs it. Forest is an issue. But it’s not built entirely foe one combo

You can one shot with the grenade barrage on fall damage and kinetic battery.

Just netshot before leaping off a ledge onto them. Dodge an attack, go into stealth… Then you have 7 seconds left to use barrage twice… So three barrages is possible… With skill… But we don’t want active skilled play, do we?

It would be fine if it was not for the trait being such a CORE MECHANIC!!! Might as well say “reroll untill next patch.”

1- projectile speed and radius on 1 kit does not equate to a core mechanic.

2. All other benefits from the trait Were. Not. Intended. It. Was. A. Bug. Not. A. Legitimate. Build.

3- use glass cannon for a week or two.

4- using barrage on fall damage, kinetic battery and netshot, you can hit with 3 barrages in close succession… Only this needs skill. Got any? Or do we want to do it twice from stealth still?

I’ve noticed alot of stuns flying around, and cc… It’s the indicator that a whole world of burst is coming your way.

Mesmers tend to have a few more stuns up their sleeves with certain traits…

I’ve started taking all my offensive stats from amulet and gone for runes of melandru.

Ontop, I’m an engi so mecha legs adds to it and I get protection on cc too so I’m finding some nice synergys.

Reduced stun duration seemed to help alot yesterday. Gonna see if it’s consistent tonight.

Hey man, I use rampager with melandru runes now.
Little but of toughness, vit, loads of crit, power and condi dmg, no ferocity but the crit is it proc bleeds, vulnerability and whatever else… Aswell as for an almost permanent 50%dmg boost (60+10vs bleeding+20 fury)from critting.

Fir sustain, I use bunker down, supply crate F5, bpr, Eg5 etc.

Melandru gives a further 25% off condi. With mecha legs, soft cc is greatly reduced… Probably more suited to pvp, but for pve you could go for dolyak?

I’ve been mulling over Juggernaut vs incendiary powder… With flamer slotted, d’you think there’s enough burning to go for the extra stab & might? I’m gonna be trying out Juggernaut tonight :-?

Engi is my only serious character. Tried all the others and nothing compares for me. I don’t play dirty and will not be using grenadier until it’s fixed!

I don’t actually use the jet all that much unless the target is low or I’ve unloaded a lot of conditions and there’s nothing else to apply so auto-attacking is all that’s left. But that said, with burning stacking now, the auto is definitely a lot better.

This similar to a build Ive used only I went into inventions for the protection uptime, shield cooldowns, legs and bunker down. I found flame jet to be really useful with target lock as an aoe revealer on demand.

Started using rampager with melandru runes now though… The stun reduction is useful atm… There seems to be a lot of it around atm.

With p/s I’ve been more a fan of heavy armour exploit… With 60-90 crit chance the vulnerability and bleeds stack up quick with flame blast :evilgrin:

I played with a similar set up only with elixir gun in place of elixir u and with strength runes. Good fun but ultimately not where I’ve settled build-wise.

Traits:

Firearms; Chemical Rounds, Precise Distribution, Incendiary Powder.

So this trait line is all about maximising you condition output.
Chemical rounds is a no brained here, with mobility available elsewhere and wielding twin pistols it does alot to augment pistol#4 to (13.5 seconds of burning with runes of balthazar and incendiary powder).
Speaking of which, we take Incendiary Powder to further augment burns and apply 2 further stacks for 7 seconds in every 10.
Using the flamer for utility, the trait Juggernaut is not selected as more time is spent in pistols.
With all the precision from rabid stats, Precise Distribution is taken to maximise condi damage where other options benefit power rifle builds.
The minors are all good, more crit more bleeds for longer… Win.

Inventions; Automated Medical Response (AMR), Mecha Legs, Bunker Down.

This the defensive line.
AMR is great and what makes AED shine.
It further synergises with the Runes of Balthazar #6 ability to make death defying heals.
Mobility is provided with Mecha Legs along with a soft cc (which is everywhere) reduction.
Bunker down is the best option here of the 3 for this build.
Even if you aren’t using them, your allies can benefit from the bandages and with the F5 skill, a point is soon loaded with heals.
Minors are great too.
An aoe condi clear and regen that, in turn, buffs healing power increasing AED’s burst heal.

Tools; Reactive Lenses, Target Lock, Gadgeteer.

This final line provides stealth counters and adds to our utilities.
The minors are okay. Excessive energy is a bit wasted on this build but with the vigor nerf, 90-100% endurance is difficult to maintain outside of opening rotations.
Reduced CD’s on toolbelt skills means more burning uptime, which is this builds main source of dps and more vigor procs.

With a rise in mesmers and stealth burst thieves, the first two choices in this line are a direct counter but are usable on anything TBH.
First, reactive lenses is a free auto proc stun break on disable or blind.
The con is that it can be burned up with a blind onto 40sec CD without you even noticing but the major pro, is that insta-stunbreak!
Most openers involve some form of control/disable.
When this procs you still have an active SB on your bar without giving up another utility for the privilege.
The second choice, target lock is a winner even if you suspect someone sneaking up on you, spam some aoe and boom…
Or more often, you’ll get stealth engaged, auto stunbreak, pop some blinds or AED if it’s serious and then get some condis on the go.
When the fool tries to stealth away and heal up/cleanse, if you haven’t already analysed him swap to FT and hose em down! Plus 10% dmg >:).
This is the main use For FT#1 as it’s primarily a power based ability but the burn at the end is welcomed, especially when it’s boosted 5 sec duration due to traits and sigils.

Gadgeteer! The jury seems to be out on this one.
Many complaining that it’s underwhelming.
Most talk about the CD’s but it’s the mechanics that makes this so impressive (to me atleast).
When you get struck 5 times the overcharged skills overwrite the normal ones so that in very short order (remember AMR and Balth’ runes synergy here) you can activate AED up to three times in a row.
Much to great confusion and dismay!
I found the same with slick shoes when developing my build (which works very well to knock down foes then FT#4 them) but found analyse to be a stronger utility.
Also note that gadgeteer grants might on reactive lenses.
TBH, I keep goggles off cooldown for when it’s really needed.
Now it extends AED which can be a life saver….literally.
If it doesn’t pay off I have F5 and bunker down bandages.
Once combats over and the foe is a smoldering slag heap, save that charge for rocket boots.
The mobility when overcharged is astounding!
Also, if you bump into a ranged foe, it closes the gap in a blink and can put that pew pew ranger off kilter!

Deschain Munroe’s guide to The Pyro-Tech!

Good day fellow engineers!

This is gonna be a more in depth build guide than anything I’ve ever posted before. Firstly, because it’s got to be the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Secondly, it’s left many a mesmer and thief in tatters (with stealth openers being a problem for many, this may help). Lastly, many of you are still tryin to find your way and if this helps even a little bit, then job done.

To summarize, this build is all about burning and gizmos.

PvP Build

WvW Build

PvE… just WvW with different sigils!

Utilities:

AED, Flamethrower, Rocket boots, utility goggles and supply crate.

Weapons:

Dual pistols;

Pistols are the main offensive weapons whilst the flamethrower (FT) is there for utility.
Using FT#5 during stomps and air blast to interrupt stomps.
On the subject of stomps, it’s a good time to mention AED’s f1 ability.
It’s seldom used except to interrupt stomps.
As stomps take around 3 seconds to complete, it is the best use of the stun it provides as the cast time isn’t disadvantaged by its purpose in this case.
Napalm FT#4 at your feet in melee or on a foe that has been immobilized or knocked down to stack some sick burns and FT#2 for the might stacks.

Sigils; Energy and Torment.

Whilst we get quite a bit of vigor from the tools minor trait, this isn’t sufficient to provide enough dodges to remain reactive.
When you need, swapping weapons can give you an instant dodge.
Once you have swapped into FT you can hit FT#5 to aid escape, into pistol #3 or even rocket boots and get the F out of there!

Torment, this is because it’s an extra condition that procs often enough to be a cover condition, reducing the chance that your more effective conditions (read as burning) getting cleansed.

Gear:

Armour/Trinkets/Amulet;

This is a condi build so the main stat is condition damage.
Secondary stats desired are precision for our passive procs and toughness to minimise burst damage.
Ergo Rabid is where it’s at.

For WvW/PvE I use rabid/dire trinkets for that bit extra defense whislt maintaining high condition damage.

The PvE variant uses sigils of corruption and bursting to maximise dps… who needs that many dodges and cover condis anywho?!

Runes;

6 x Superior Runes of Balthazar

These are taken to augment the many sources of burning this build has as well as introducing it’s own aoe burn.
The #6 ability is what makes this set really stand out.
At 25% health, you probably want to think about healing, and with a 3/4 sec cast time, the quickness can make the difference between stomp and be-stomped!

Spot on, I say. It seems fair that if vulnerability increases it, protection should do the opposite. Especially considering the shear number of burn stacks that eles and us Engi’s can apply!

Balthazar buffs your burns very well but make sure you have more than one application. Incendiary powder alone is not sufficient. Either bomb kit, flamer, Rocket boots etc.

The one reason I take them over all is the quickness at 25% hp which synergises with AMR when you’re in trouble.

In short XD

(not for turbo comp speed runs, but great for openworld, fractals, pvp and wvw)

I played with a similar set up only with elixir gun in place of elixir u and with strength runes. Good fun but ultimately not where I’ve settled build-wise.

Hmm… Holbrek on rabid? Not ideal… I suppose if you’re might stacking runes of aristocracy… Oh wait… Not allowed nice things.

You have pitiful direct damage and no ferocity. Though, that’s a simpton of the rabid amulet. Go for a condi rune set, scavenging is nice, so too are balthazar but there’s plenty to choose from…. Though 25%hp quickness from Orr and Balthazar can save your bacon with such a slow casting heal.

Trait wise, you’ve git enough precision to proc proc procedi – proc! So you can afford to take pinpoint distribution. Also, streamlined kits & mecha legs is a waste. Use one or the other. I prefer mecha legs so I can take target lock for the stealth counterplay. Your build can use acid bomb and/or fumigate to take advantage of this button you could heal on blast for more team support… Something your build does well as is.

Sigils… Energy good good good.
Hydro… Synergise well with hematic focus I guess but then you already have good enough precision. I’m a sucker for torment as it does more damage than a bleed stack and it can cover up more damaging condis that would otherwise get cleansed.

Overall I like condi hgh and this ain’t too bad. I just wish there was a might stacking condi rune set in PvP.

My 2 cents anyway.

Just don’t be tempted to be gigantic turbo dougen with grenades!

those are tool belt cds that got reduced, do some combat tests of the gadgeteer trait guys youll see what im talking about, and im sure yas will agree that its what gadgets deserve.

Dont know whether it’s intentional but you effectively get to use your gadgets twice. Forget CDs.

When the overcharge ability comes available, it seems to overwrite the normal skill. As if they (overcharged and normal) have their own individual CDs.

Like the OP said, not sure if this is intentional but as someone who’s been using AED, AMR and slickshoes extensively… this feels overpowered >:-D

almost unkillable (include quickness from runes @25% hp) and looooads of puddles.

Hello fellow golden children engineers! I want to find out how everyone is doing with the new changes. Either answer my questions directly or just write about what you feel is important for the devs to know.

Questions:

  1. Ignoring the bug on grenadier making it godly, how have grenades felt with the 900 range? Does mortar kit make up for it?
  2. What elite have you been taking? If you had to rate them from best to worst, how would you do it and why?
  3. Are you using Flamethrower, EGun or Bomb kit more at all?
  4. Engineers currently have a LOT of builds to work with. Which is your favorite so far? Please don’t include any builds that utilize bugs.
  5. Have you tried the new med kit? My experience has been it being a bit clunky.
  6. Are you using any heals besides Healing Turret now?
  7. I’ve heard from some people that the gadgeteer trait is a bit lackluster. Do you agree and if so, what do you think would make it better?

1- Grenades feel the same… I always only used them around the 0-900 mark anyway and find them better in a power build with glass cannon… shrapnel is only there to guarantee 10% crti from fire-arms… I’ve stopped using them since the patch though, since its now possible to do serious damage with other options!

2 – I’ve been messing around with them but my favourite is supply crate. AoE stun, AoE burn and immob with the option to overcharge the lot! yes please. BUG when traited with experimental turrets, the supply crate “turret” only grants 3 secs of vigor… no swiftness or might!

3 – I have used flamethrower extensively! I’ve always loved it and now it rocks!

4 – Pistol/pistol
– Sigil of smouldering/sigil of torment
– PvP: Rabid/WvW: rabid-dire mix
Runes of Balthazar
AED/slickshoes/flamethrower/toolkit/supply crate
– Firearms: chemical rounds/pinpoint distribution/incendiary powder
– Inventions: automated medical response/mecha legs/bunker down
– Tools: power wrench/lock on/gadgeteer

95(ish)% burning duration! and the AED combo makes me almost invincible

5 – yes but i prefer the new AED AMR synergy. See below.

6 – AED… remember that balthazar runes give quickness when ARM procs! see below.

7 – Right! I get the feeling that anyone who’s saying this hasn’t actaully seen how it behaves! I can defy death really consistantly… The overcharged versions replace the normal skills and each has its own CD making it very strong with AED and slickshoes.

Best anecdote so far was last night.

won a game and at the end, a ranger (who I 1v1ed a few times and stomped in a few team fights) wrote in chat, “what’s this bs engi heal?!?!? I killed him 4 times in a row and he just burst heal to full!?!?!”

It’s not useless… but you cant expect miracles from a single source…

I use it….. with balthazar runes, sigil of smouldering, offhand pistol and flamethrower.
not to mention the flame turret in supply crate and projectile finishers through FT#4.

Then we’re cooking on gas! >:-)
