The mounts are small and designed as such to prevent visual noise.
That’s a shame… Every other race looks good on the mounts, so not only do Charr get clipping issues from hell on armor, they also look obscenely large on mounts…
If you want least played, Rev seems to be super low pop n from a reddit pole, will continue in that fashion as it was the least picked anticipated elite spec.
Also Thieves are way more common than Mesmers. Wayyyy more. Especially in pvp/wvw.
This is actually surprising… I remember a metric kittenton of butterflies in WvW… But I’m ok with this… Mesmer seems like it could be even more complex than thief.
During my brief periods of testing new characters in the silverwastes, mesmer could handle nearly everything, but was slow to kill (Possibly from being quite rusty in the game…) Rev seemed OP as kitten, and thief didn’t do well with groups, but could make short work of single mobs…
So, I’ve been away a few years, and about to come back, but before I start a new character (Heavily considering Charr Thief as I like professions with some level of complexity, and mesmers seem far more common (What are you guys thoughts on rarer professions?))
Anyways, with mounts coming with PoF, I was looking at the videos, and it looks like Charr are bigger than the mounts…. Looks friggen kittened…. is this something you think they’ll address? Is it intentional for some reason?
That alone has actually put me off of character creation (Followed by debating on the profession with some level of complexity, and not a tank (Mesmer, thief, rev, ele… Which of those is least played? :P ) But mostly, the race part… I’m partial to Charr, but not if they are going to look bigger than the mount…

It would be rather interesting to see dragons on teams. Not as strong as the meta event dragons, but more so as a defense for keeps, or offense for picking someone off a wall. But that would take a ton of trial and error to find a decent balance.
There is a difference between giant battles and ridiculousness. Hundreds of people in 1 small area spamming 1 and the occasional aoe is kitten when the server can’t even keep up. I’d probably be less against it if not for the ridiculous lag, so that player skill mattered.
Not to mention some crap commanders who lack any form of tactic or strategy, but that’s a different story completely. (I’ve seen some commanders that are quite awesome, but it’s rare that I get to play with them)
Again with the zerg whining.
Zerging is not a problem.
Zerging never has been a problem.
Zerging is one of many ways to play the game.
Zerging is preferred by many and hated by others.
I would imagine that the people who whine about zergs, find themselves in zergs more often than not.
Yes. I do actually. Because I don’t feel as if there’s any other option… It’ll take more than 5 people to fight an entire enemy zerg, and other than the occasional thief that’s really all t1 offers, or taking a supply camp on occasion.
Only once did I enjoy the zerg, and that was when we took jq Valley, where I can see a need for zerging. But that doesn’t really happen often.
Maybe if I were able to see the difference I would be more inclined to not hiss and meow. If that is actually the case, anet should allow 5 wvw transfers to each account that don’t expire so players can experience the differences without paying so much.
And I would absolutely love wvw to be the equivalent of the entire pve world. If we went that route, make it something like ab. Allow guilds to own towns in the pve end if a guild claimed it in wvw, which would perhaps allow for cheaper merchants and way points, etc. Then again, I’ve got a better chance of winning the lottery without ever buying a ticket. :c
If there wasn’t skill lag, I suppose I can see it being more skill based instead of 1 spam.

I amused myself, and looked up gumin… Korean word for sexy or cool… Yes. Thanks. But flattery doesn’t help.
So it’s my own fault for being on a server I had no idea would become… what it is? My account is from before launch, and I left the game until I had a better computer, and came back to be stuck in zvzvz…
Also, mixing languages is a surefire way to confuse people. But again, thanks for the compliment.
Aneu, that would also work. Let the big ol zergs take points while smaller teams handle the open field objectives. Providing the zerg doesn’t want to do it all.
gumin is the korean word for sexy or cool…
Lmfao… Well thank you.
Give it time. I’m sure at this rate wvw will have a function like that. 20 badges and 1k karma to build a nuclear warhead in rata sum to obliterate a single map. 4s cooldown.
A gumin? Lol… Are we pulling words from our kitten now? And yesterday I was qued for 45 minutes, thanks. And please tell me what counter play exist when you’re lagging on a high end pc? It takes 7 seconds to activate any of my skills. Yes. I am t1. The rest of your post doesn’t even make enough sense to respond to.
Some of you are rather dense, or just simply afraid to do anything without 99 other people around you. Not once did I say a group of 5 should be able to take out reinforced objectives without a miracle. I just think smaller groups (less than 50) should be able to have more of a chance of accomplishing something. As it stands, anyone with half a brain can join a zerg, press 1 and collect badges. Tell me, what kind of skill does that require? Having fingers? Anyone with any sense of accomplishment in a zerg needs to reevaluate their contribution… As long as you have more numbers you’ve taken your objective.
With more maps and players spread thinner amongst them, who says the enemy would even be able to man all the “ridiculous siege”? They would probably also be on other maps. Not to mention this would get rid of the hour+ long ques.
Valik. More maps doesn’t mean lower cap. They can cover 1 map, another guild on another, etc. Either way it’ll be smaller zergs on many maps or a massive one remaining on 1 map, owning it, but losing it all on the others unless small groups play those. I see no downfall in making several more maps, and I welcome any legitimate arguments
Because if the zergs were smaller and skill lag didn’t occur as a result, people would have to rely on skill! Oh noes!
edit. Misunderstood your post for a moment don’t you think bigger maps would just lead to a bigger circle the zergs ran? My idea is to make zergs spread themselves thinner across several maps. Which would also lead to less skill lag and make wvw dependent on skill instead of 1111111
(edited by PhelanDisturbed.1650)
It might not be fully realistic, but if we had say… 10 maps going at once, I don’t think the zergs would be as big, and probably put more importance on smaller teams to take over stuff in the other maps. Not to mention it would give wvw more flavor since we wouldn’t see the same freaking stuff every day. Not sure if other servers have different looking maps since we’ve been fighting the same two servers since I got in to wvw! Small teams would be cherished, and feel a bit more useful, and don’t quote me but I swear they said they wanted wvw to be casual? Having so many Maps at once would meet that, theoretically. It would work for the hardcore wvwers, and the new guy can go in without running in to an enemy zerg every 10 minutes.
Or better yet, since zerging seems to happen less in lower tiers, make the map count depend on the tier?
I came here to say one thing… Even though gw2 doesn’t really have a holy trinity… People have that mentality… I’ve ran with groups that believed the holy trinity exist in this game, and those who don’t…. Know what the difference was in the outcome? Not even 5 freaking minutes! GW2 took a risk in removing this trinity, and personally, I’m glad they did… But so many people refuse to accept this change… LF Zerker wars! >.>
Skritt= racial ability; plus 10 to all stats and critical damage for every skritt in your party as the passive, active would be steal Shiney, take something from your target- like a piece of gear (until the end of the fight) elite signet
I don’t expect nor ask for tips, I do expect a simple Thank you, and I also thank those who tip me, regardless of how little or how much. Hell, I’ve tipped a mesmer who petaled me so I could portal others. I did however used to charge as a runner in gw1… But that involved some form of skill.
Point is; I don’t think we, as mesmers should demand, or even request pay of any kind, but I do think it is acceptable to accept tips… We do make some lives easier… But it requires so little of us.
I’m happy with a thank you. But when people tip when I don’t even mention it, it’s rather uplifting.
I suggest a shatter cat build until your familiar with the profession and then make your own build and never ever post it if it’s good lol
It seems tipping is becoming more and more common. I’m happy to say I got over 3g in tips in about 3 hours from porting the southsun jp/sample. I don’t even ask for them and have gotten from 5s to 60s+!
I know it isn’t a fast way to make money but it’s also helping others. I’m just glad not everyone takes our abilities for granted. And to those who tip. Thank you.
Edit: I had 3 people in a row tip over 1g recently. .. It is actually becoming profitable…

I. Leap is the most depressing issue for me… I’m still learning to play mesmer and quite often I hit 3 3 2 f1 only to discover I never did any swapping. I’m not used to being penalized for trying to burst a vulnerable target
I have the achievement. 100% luck… but I got it. I had the crab, saw incoming karka, sprinted to the side last second and everyone else was steam rolled… three times…
As I just posted on another topic. Rolled 8 consecutive times before I had time to get out of the corner…
The pvp part isn’t the issue. It’s being rolled 8 consecutive times by the karka…
None of them are hard perse. Just different play styles. Imo ofc.
T.c. isn’t tier 1… just saying.
On t1 server I sometimes get nasty lag in zvzvz. But I use sw\t when staff is on cd to tag a few more people with burning and frenzy
I usually just target a mesmer clone in wvw during defending. Then die to nerfed retaliation and Cry as loot bags appear near my corpse…
Last month there were tons and tons of mesmers in hotjoin anyways. I lack the patience to que for 3 hours for tpvp… However in wvw… seems anyone I run in to that isn’t zerging it is a mesmer or thief…
I’ve used it before…. teleported inside a stair case…
I’d think, or hope rather, that these traps will take supply to build. Not as much as siege, but some. To prevent the spamming of them.
@zaxon gw1 wasn’t too bad imo in the ways of balance. Just takes them a long time to get it right… years… :p
I just don’t see many people buying these traps to use against a solo roaming thief, if that’s even possible.
This is quite humorous… I can almost promise the upcoming anti stealth traps will be focused on mesmers being able to stealth/portal bomb, but I’ve seen maybe 1 thread in the mesmer section discussing it. Maybe not even that… whilst the thief forum is loaded with how this is directed at them and will completely destroy them as a profession (with very few using their heads and not too worried)
This is one of the reasons I dropped thief for mesmer. The community is overall better…
Thankfully though, by holding it, steal still recharges so if you’ve held an item for 45 seconds, use it, you can immediately use steal afterwards.
3 seconds, just checked. And usually I am right on top of them, it isn’t something I open with either. More so at 1/4, sometimes 1/3 in this scenario just to finish them off. I rarely use it for the shadow step.
Tbh, I enjoy the steal mechanic. Not as much for the effectiveness, but to rub salt on their wounds. Example; steal from Necro, apply a fear to them that is better than their own, while they are running away, bp> hs> bs … how insulting is it to know the main reason you died was because of your own ability? Most people with a brain won’t allow a nice easy solid backstab. Using their own stuff against them for a prefect lineup? I’d laugh, as I died a little inside.
Agreed. Gc thieves usually die as fast as they can kill unless they are of incredibly exceptional skill, but even then, one mess up and they are toast. People seem to just recently be discovering the potential of non gc thieves, the ones you really need to look out for…
Thieves are challenging to use? Hardly. Challenging to master? Fully. I’ve had several thieves try to gank me using their typical combo, but freak out and run away when I counter it in some way. It’s easy to be a noob ganker, but there are too many 1 trick pony thieves that have no idea what to do. Hell, I’ve had the same thief try the SAME tactic 4 times in a 20 minute Window, failing each time.
However I’ve been killed by thieves of skill… imo thieves are prefectly fine as is… They can do considerable damage in a short time, can play slippery to make up for lower stats, etc. Most of the 1vX videos I’ve seen of thieves in wvw, their targets are just morons running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Hearing thieves complaining of low hp and Armor are tiring. Most survivability comes from tactic, and you don’t need to be burst or gtfo if you have tactic. When playing my thief I do just fine wearing my target down before bursting. Although my burst isn’t as big as most thieves, it’s more than enough to “finish the job”.
Lastly; as far as going with the zerg, it doesn’t make much sense for a thief to bring tons of group support to me. They have some, and offer some combo fields but they shine in roaming and/or ambush, as to be expected from a thief.
…. level matters not in spvp….. o.o
Apparently OP missed my last post…. I’m the right circumstances any profession can take on more than 1 and walk away. Since you’re using hotjoin as an example, the only profession I’ve not taken on 2+ by myself and won was with a Guardian and a warrior… Then again I’ve never tried because heavy Armor isn’t my thing.
Example; my last post-I beat 2 people at once with a thief in hot join. I’ve taken the same build in to tpvp… fought a Necro and dd ele at once. The results were far different than in hotjoin…. The fight was longer and much harder and in the end, I was stomped.
What I’m saying is there are far too many variables to call something op in an apparently non competitive environment. Player skill, player build, coordination, etc. Sometimes just having an ideal position can make all the difference…
I’ve fought several mesmers… I’ve lost some, but I’ve also won some. Never has a blurred frenzy been why I’ve lost. I stand back, and wait for it to be done and finish. It isn’t like mesmers are not rooted. They can’t go anywhere!
Just to chime in…. my semi balanced with small burst capabilities thief
Running s/d and d/p can easily take out that combo… And had done so several times…. what’s your point? Steal boons from Guardian, stealth conditions away, beat up Necro whilst keeping blind up, stealth conditions and stomp, take boons from Guardian again, beat him with my sword…. Next argument please….
I didn’t read the full thread but you people who are saying “why play a game called guild wars if you’re not going to pvp” are making yourselves look like compete kittens…. might want to read some lore on the game before making silly remarks… It’s about the story line guilds primarily…
This thread no longer has a topic lol. Kind of like a general discussion for us since my primary question was answered. Now to get the motivation to get money again… dropped 30g on my thief and had him clear 7 zones. But at least I was wise and saved my laurels!
That was my favorite thing about the buffed s/d thief. At least I’ll still have that :p
Ya. That’s another thing that makes mesmer appealing. The ability to troll so well. Am I a power mesmer? Or will I harass you with conditions? What happens when I go invisible? Will I run away? Stand still? Or burst in to a ball of “fuchsia” flame behind you? Not to mention I offer my group utility as a mesmer than a thief, and I like to partake of every aspect of the game. Roaming, s/tpvp, pve, abs occasionally zerg. Crossplay, I like that quote btw. XD
Thanks pyro… I feel silly now xD that information alone should help immensely.
Wow. Much friendlier than the thief forums. Most of that is l2p, nerf stealth, or as a poster above me said, burst or gtfo. (I didn’t use a burst build either)
As a different profession, I can spot the real mesmer fairly easy (the dodging usually) but I was under the impression I was supposed to pretty much have my target surrounded or else my shatter would fail lol. I’ve noticed a few times I’ll have someone targeted, press a shatter, it goes on cd yet I still have 3 illusions o.o
Thanks again for the warm welcome
