To Vayne (while I was typing phys’ posts came =)):

Can you just stop counting the kitten kittening players who like or not? Can you just stop relying on your own environment for once?

Obviously, you can’t come up with better arguments to what we said as broken. Your only argument is “me and my social circle likes it. I can count x many players that like it too. So it is good”.

Stop counting the thumbs up and downs. Megaservers broke every little thing I like about this game. We discussed it in 45 pages in this kitten topic. And your small environment that you are relying does not make problems disappear.

Here’s an update for you:

It’s clear that quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange. Our intention when we designed the new interface was to streamline large volume purchases, which make up the majority of transactions.

In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it. We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new “Custom” button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold.

We anticipate rolling this out soon. Stay tuned!

Why should they? Half the stuff suggested would probably have unseen consequences players never think about.

Yeah because megaservers are THE BEST SYSTEM EVER and there are none consequences that anyone could think about.

But do you know, Vayne? Before they implemented megaservers, we wrote wall of concerns about this system. And your beloved company’s workers said us “We will take care of them”. Yeah, they really take care of them by ignoring.

Until the idea is tested by a bunch of people thinking about it, trying to poke holes in it, a dev can’t reply. Should they have those meetings hourly? Daily? Weekly? Weekly is far too long with the number of suggestions.

3 months + 2 weeks past since they wrote a blog about megaservers and implemented into the game. Do you want us to wait for 9324802984029 years more?

Also, I don’t know since when you are playing GW2, but I am here since day -3. Anet does not test their systems. Because we are still in beta.

(Actually, according to the information taken from ArenaNet page in glassdoor.com, they closed their own QA team and outsourced it to another company which is probably the worst decision they could ever think about [after megaservers of course =)]).

I think it’s unreasonable to expect replies to long long threads like that.

Usual white knighting detected in small scale. You are right if they do something to fix megaservers without coming to this topic and chat with us. But they haven’t done anything in game too. By looking their behaviours, they won’t do anything.

For EU, if they disable guesting or if they disable chests for guests, other servers can find a zerg in their Teqila fight too.

Also, after months Teqila fight becomes very simple. In Desolation, we are not even using a TS to communicate. If a player is lucky enough to enter main map, all they need to do is following the crowd. The problem is ezmoder players. They whine and whine for everything that is harder than level 1 dolyak.

Conclusion: I dont like guests in my server, Desolation. Do not come Desolation please. Do not steal my spot and my loot.

Overflow Priorities

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Phoenixlin.8624

That is how guesting actually works nowadays.

The low/medium populated servers’ players should understand that you are leeching a system which is originally build for “playing with your friends”. It was not implemented to guest high populated servers to steal home server players’ spots and chests.

Removing guest system is not necessary but it should have some other restrictions. I will re-write my suggestion:

Players should be allowed to guest to “lower/medium” populated server. Not very high/high populated ones. Maybe there can be also clock limit implemented such a way that in the mornings till some xx time guesting is unlimited. But at prime times, guests in highly populated servers should be kicked and no more guests should be allowed to enter to this servers. Low/Medium populated servers does not need this restriction.

As a last note: I am from Desolation in EU and yes Desolation can fill a map with its own players and I am fine with it as long as servers’ own players are filling the maps.

Some people still come and can say “lol at qq. look at those children, they are crying for their pixel weapons”. Those people have NO idea about concerns in this topic.

Letting only a small number of people for WvW improvement is not an excuse.
Focusing on Chinese release is not an excuse.

They had 9 weeks + 1 week to make everything right. Instead, they added 0 improvement for WvW in 3rd June’s patch. NONE. ZERO. There is not any single positive improvement for WvW (all in all it is just 3 bullets). However, they are keep adding stuff to gem store (and skill facts to skills lel).

I got my chest but seeing people that haven’t rewarded for even Season 1 is frightening. Obviously, it makes me think that if one day I encounter such a bug, ANet won’t fix it. Why? Because they will still have a small WvW team or they will focusing on GW2 release in Antarctica (penguins love games).

And reward bug is just a small subset of WvW. Some servers had (maybe still have) lots of exploiters through 9 weeks of tournaments. Those exploits have been in game since day -3. The only action they take so far is closing and deleting threads about it. No punishment (it is a fact since same servers had players to use exploits) or fixes for the actual problem. They just silenced people that want to see a fix.

I do not want my post to be lost in oblivion due to moderator activities (at least he didn’t delete the topic/post). So I will just copy/paste my post about why tweaks or modifications can’t fix our problems (with some editing):

Original link:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Megaservers-are-actually-kind-of-awesome/page/2#post3966589

“People without some technical background can dream about “some tweaks” and “modifications” which will make everything as should be. But it is almost impossible.

First, you need to understand how megaservers are being created now. There is some kind of machine learning algorithm (google it or wikipedia it) behind scene which tries to find your “whom player x likely to play” list. Believe me or not but this kind of problem can be a weekly homework in any university’s machine learning class. Because the problem is not the algorithm (it is the easiest part) but the data about players (which is also easy for ANet since they are monitoring us for collecting data). So, in terms of “finding your best mates” algorithm, ANet can’t fail (I hope).

The hard and almost impossible part (as well as where ANet can’t handle) is putting you with your party/guild/server/friends to same map. Just think about it only yourself. You are the first person that enter, for instance, Sparkfly. Then your friend enters as the second person. Then his/her friend enters as the third person. And so on.

I know this is not the exact system. Actually, in current system, until a map reaches its soft cap, everyone can teleport into that map (oh wait, before megaservers it was also the case). There is no priority for your party/guild/server/friends which is exactly opposite what ANet said. After soft cap, everyone can taxi their party/guild/friend into the map. However, even if they could give priority your social circle, there are HUGE amount of other players with HUGE amount of social circles. If you think about it just for a second, you can understand that it is really a bad problem. Unfortunately, there is no such algorithm/idea/system that can fix this problem if ANet insists on using megaserver system.

In old system, you could meet with your social circle without a problem in your server’s map or you could create your own overflow or you could guest to a lower populated server. However, you HAD CHOICE to do it. Megaserver system took those choices from us and gave us nothing and will continue to give us nothing.

I have to admit that if Guild Wars 2 used megaservers at launch (almost 2 years ago), we could adapt ourselves. However, after 2 years, we made friendships. We construct communities from scratch. We formed guilds and alliances to kill big, bad bosses. You can’t understand if you haven’t try to get first kill of updated Tequatl and Three Headed Wurm. We wasted our hours to get that first kill. We tried hard as a community. We failed hard as a community. We learned hard as a community. We killed them hard as a community and our screams of joy trembled Teamspeak servers.

And now, we have nothing. I open GW2 nowadays, and I am just a random player among huge amount of unknown players. There is no familiar faces for me. I go to Tequatl or Wurm and all I see is random faces again. Even if I try to join my communities’ map, it is also full with more than > 50 random players.

New players may like crowded maps. Altoholics may like crowded maps. But megaservers offer nothing to rest of player base."

PLAYING HOW THEY WANT

This is the most disgusting excuse in this forum. Sorry but, for instance in Wurm fight you are not allowed to play how you want. It is not because we are elite or hardcore, it is because there is a working system in that fight. Every single player in that map HAVE TO play according to that system. It is not because we are elite and you are not, it is because we are wasting our times to do something in there, and your ignorance can cause us a failure. Just because you wanna play as you want, you can’t waste x many players’ time that are participating to an event.

You have to understand that whether you are playing +10 hours or -10 hours, if you participate a big event, you have a responsibility to other players in that map, like the other players have a responsibility to you.

Don’t dream about “tweaks on algorithm can fix stuff” since the problem is not the algorithm but the domain it is used. I will try to explain it as simple as possible:

- ANet, obviously, collect data about us and our environment while we are playing. So, in an ideal world the collected data is enough for them to identify who should be in same map with whom.

- Moreover, the algorithm that matches you with your friends are not complex. Yeah there is some Big Data stuff included; however, the small scale version is just a basic machine learning algorithm that can match you with your possible friends/guildies (and there can be several different algorithmic approaches for such matching). Since Anet has enough data, these algorithms can achieve really high accuracies for matching (but not %100). So, in terms of algorithm, ANet has no problem (I hope). The problem starts when you enter a map.

- First thing can happen is the map that your friends/party/guildies are in may reach the soft/hard caps. If it is soft cap, you can just “join”; otherwise, you need to spam “join”. This can’t be fixed fully (increasing cap is just a temporary solution for instance). It is just a situational case and you have to accept it. Since there are many players in the map, and many social circles that players have; many players try to be in the same map with their friends.

- Secondly, you are not the only one who has the person X as your friend. Let’s think about a two-men party and you both wanna enter Sparkfly. The person X teleports to map before you, and while he is teleporting, the algorithm places him to the best matching map by looking his/her server/guild/party/friendlist. Then, you teleport and same process happens. If you are lucky enough, your matching score make you enter the person X’s map. However, if you have more friends or better matching friends in another Sparkfly instance, system separates you from person X. Again, you can do nothing about it. You can’t say system to “prioritize party in this case and prioritize guildies in another case and so on,” because there are infinitely many cases out there. There are infinitely many connections between lots of players and it is an impossible task to match every single player correctly.

- Thirdly, even if you are the perfect match of a person X (let’s assume you are both from same server, guild and in same party), the algorithm can’t achieve the %100 accuracy. You and the person X are the perfect friends just by looking; however, a computer algorithm does not work like that. It does it calculations and if it fails, you will be separated.

- Finally, I have no idea how this system can match me with Frenches and Germans. It is probably a default case in Europe server: “If you can’t find a proper map for player X, just throw him into Frenches and Germans. Make him suffer!”

To conclude, don’t expect any tweaks or optimizations in the algorithm/code. The problem is not the algorithm but the domain itself. There are too many possible cases to be handled and there is no algorithm to fix them all. Obviously, ANet did not think about Megaserver idea as they should be. Even with 30 minutes of self-brainstorming, I can tell you most of the possible cases that Megaservers fall short. I don’t believe that any staff at ANet hadn’t thought any of these issues; however, some higher-ups, that wanna bath with money, made them implement this system to create a crowded game illusion to attract new players.

It’s impossible to do Tequatl without an overly coordinated group using teamspeak with nearly an entire zone of players doing the event. While they may be easy, they should aim for a much lower point for player participation or these things will be ghost towns on 99% of servers just like Tequatl is now.

You dont need ts for Teqila anymore. At least in Desolation we dont use it. My only problem with Teqila is the guesting system. People zerging to our beloved server to take our places and our loots.

2:30 can be good for all participants. With fake 2:00, a DPS check is almost necessary. Thanks to that genius in Anet, you lose 10 seconds or more because of the animation of wurm and for the rest of the dps race, every single player have to be a zerker+all increase damaged traits. So even all 150 players in the map follow commanders’ instructions, there is still a %49 chance for a fail because of not DPS geared people.

But of course I’d like to try a true 2:00 attempt before any time increase =)

- Because the worst class among all classes due to its mechanics.
- Because there are other classes that can much more helpful to any group/zerg than rangers in terms of damage and healing and buffing.
- Because the amount of noobs that play rangers is over 9000
- Because when you type “Rangers suck” in mapchat, reading that funny arguments of rangers is fun =)

They just made Tequatl a little bit harder, and tears of whines flooded these forums. We had our servers and communities for exactly killing Tequatls. But solo players, small servers and some small guilds did not like it because they don’t wanna be in such big coordinated events (I did not say they could not do it because with the help of guest system, small servers could come together, coordinate and do any events without any problem).

They made Crown Pavillion a little bit harder due to scaling, and same happened. Now, we do not have our servers and our communities hardly create an organized map (actually it is much easy now since Pavillion population is decreasing among random players). But organizing in megaservers is much painful than organizing in the old system.

With random intelligent life forms, whatever they do, IT WON’T FIX ANY PROBLEMS! Coordinated events are for server (guilds) or cross-server wide communities (Tequatl/Wurm) killing guilds. They were never for solo mentality players*. Megaservers offer nothing for such communities nor they will ever offer anything as long as Anet decides to let such communities to open their own maps without any limitations for free. In old system we could create our maps without much difficulty. At the worst case scenario, we could just guest to a low populated server. Now, we have nothing. Wherever you go, there will be unpredictable amount of random players that may or may not wanna participate. All we can do is minimizing RNG amount. Also, there is no guarantee that those randoms will participate as they SHOULD BE (for instance joining in TS). Finally, even if they are the perfect random players, still there is no guarantee that they can read what you are writing. Because last time I checked, French/German/Spanish client users cannot communicate with English client users.

*Solo mentality players = “I do what I want. I don’t care whether we can succeed with a group event. All I care is my personal actions and personal satisfactions”.

Can someone from deso post the strategy you used? a vague outline is fine. My server still splits into 3 groups and tries to take down each wurm… which I’m assuming is not how you did it.

Meh I was in almost all attempts except that last one today -_-

- There is more or less 50 players in each group.
- For Amber, there is no grouping. All players in this group act as one single zerg. Kill abomination, get yellow thing on your head, wait for being eaten without dying. After wurm spit you out, don’t fail to hit it with harpoon and dps. Untill your debuff is gone, clear mobs. Then, repeat.
- For Crimson, there is one -5 people- condition group and rest is fill containers. At dps phase just dps =)
- For Cobalt, just watch the video.
- First phase is more or less depends on Amber group because of “wurm can’t eat you” debuff. For instance, in one of our attempts, we damaged all heads to %3 health and amber needed one more dps phase for a kill. So other groups waited Amber but they couldn’t make it in time and other groups couldn’t kill their heads at the last 1 minute.
- Second phase is just dps race as long as you have enough knowledge about your class and the boss. While boss is moving just use range attacks. When it starts do move like madcows stay away and don’t die. When he stops acting like a madcow, dps hard. As long as most of the group(above %90) stay alive, not even downed state, till the end, you can do enough dps.
