Specializations... Killing the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Photonman.6241

They did it for balance, pure and simple. By having specializations they can balance for more builds, making more builds viable. More builds being viable increases build variety for people that actually want to do content, like dungeons and pvp. Builds fall in and out of grace all the time, stop whining.

You both get credit for the monsters you hit. If you both hit the same monster you both get credit. There’s no real bonus, the point is that your not penalized for working together. Playing with friends is its own reward.

You’re looking at the xpac the wrong way.

On the one hand some people say the xpac is overpriced flat out. It’s debatable but basically it has no sub and a fair store that doesn’t pay gate necessary aspects of the game. You also get quite a bit of free content updates and server maintenance. You’re getting a lot for your money. But if you think it’s unfair, that’s fine it’ll probably go on sale at some point and you’ll still get a lot of content in the form of pvp, wvw, and class changes. Vote with you’re wallets, I won’t argue with you.

Others are saying the xpac is totally reasonable for many of the reasons listed above. You’ll support the game no matter what because you love it. That’s fantastic. It’s a terrific game that’s been kept afloat by you interest and generosity. I personally have no problem with the $50 price tag to support a terrific company.

My problem, and I’ve seen it a few other places, is what we’re getting for upgrading an existing account. Which is nothing. I’m now faced with either getting the game and creating a new account, thereby giving me 5 more character slots and a bank’s worth of storage space, or losing all that for the sake of the character’s I’ve invested my time and effort in. I get nothing for upgrading an account other than I get to take my characters with me.

That’s a difficult choice for me at least, and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I’d suggest some kind of incentive for returning players. I’d suggest something like 1500 gems so we can get a new character slot and some goodies off the gem store. It costs them nothing and would fix many of the problems people are having. I’ll be disappointed if nothing is done about this…

Let me do the most simplest math for you.

Current Guild Wars 2 players.. They paid either from $10-60 (depending on promotional deal) And now HoT at $50. Thats around either $60-$110.

New players only pay $50, because the core game is included.

Semi new players, bought the core game first thinking this is what was going to be required, and some had bought the core game at the PAX (south?) announcement, so that is well over 30 days, and can’t get a refund.

If ANet actually had respect for its current players, they would have offered them say a $30 expansion upgrade option instead if the core game was found on their account.(and price would be higher for deluxe or ultimate accordingly). Lets just say a flat out $20 discount across all packages. I think a lot more people that currently play would be much happier, but now there is some rage over on reddit.

Don’t get me started on people that bought 1 character slot just for the Revenant, and then end up getting one from deluxe and up.

Anyways I think you understand my point.

GW2 Doesnt have the Avengers in it.

Its not hypocrisy to think one thing is worth $15, and that a completely different thing is not worth $50.

And the Avengers have not Hank Pym in it .. so the last movie especially wasn’t
even worth $1 for what they did to the whole story about wher Ultron was
coming from.

You have made an excellent point.

I am very much looking forward to Antman. I think I will buy extra tickets with the money I dont spend on HoT.

Even in Antman Henry is NOT Antman .. he is played by Michael Douglas who is
70 now. I’m not really sure if that movie either will be worth anything.

I think Paul Rudd will be replacing Pym as Antman, so Pym would still be the first Antman but is retiring.

Yeah .. for some reasons they simply seem to hate Hank and Janet for the movies.
I will instead better watch Avengers – Earth’s Mightiest Heroes again ^^

I for one have no issue paying $50 for the xpac. What i have issue with is the fact that if I choose to upgrade the account I already have versus just creating a new one, I stand to lose out on 4 character slots and a bank’s worth of storage. I’ve invested a lot of time and effort into my characters and that choice puts me in a bad situation. Honestly they would only have to add some value to make it worth it for me. 1500 gems for a character slot and some goodies for returning players would do it for me but it really does seem like a bit of a rip off at the moment.

I'm just not buying it

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Photonman.6241

Photonman.6241

To be perfectly clear IT IS NOT ABOUT THE PRICE! It’s the fact that there is no incentive to upgrade an account. You’re essentially losing 4 character slots and a bank’s worth of storage if you upgrade. I have absolutely no issue paying $50 for the game or the xpac or any of the tons of cool stuff they put on the gem store, but I will not upgrade an account if I’m going TO LOSE something for it. This totally trivializes the work I’ve put into the game. And it’s an easy fix, give everyone that upgrades 1500 gems for character slots and goodies off the gemstore. It’s not the same value as a totally new account but at least it’s not a slap in the face.

Costs the same to upgrade as to buy new

Honestly this really does feel like a bit of a rip off. There’s no way i would upgrade an account this way. I’d just make a new one and have a bunch more character slots and storage space. It really wouldn’t take much to fix the issue for me at least. Just something like giving me 1500 gems. But as it stands there’s no benefit to actually upgrading an account, which totally bites since I absolutely love my toons and the progress I’ve made in a really terrific game, but it’s not worth losing out on 4 character slots and a new bank for free. I’d be really sour if nothing happens to fix this.

Female Asura Clothing Options

Photonman.6241

You will NEVER get to choose if you want the male armor or female armor. It would be too much work. When you ask for female version of armor, you’re going to get the same as the female armor on every other race, this includes the skimpy ones. You can’t pick and choose. There is not a single set of armor that is different for the male and female asura or charr. NOT ONE. There are some outfits that are different but not one piece of armor. I suggest getting an outfit.

You’re never going to get the option to choose between the male and female versions of an armor. You’re going to stuck with one or the other, and I for one am glad there’s an option that doesn’t make you look like a curvy super model in a metal bikini. That option is there for people like my kid cousin who has ALWAYS had to make male characters in games because the females look “ridiculous.” She absolutely loves the charr, and she gets to play as a girl character while still looking “fierce.” If you stuck her charr in something like this, she’d be super disappointed.

GW2 going simple

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Photonman.6241

More choice does not a better system make. Currently, though you have more choices, most classes have a limited amount of optimum meta builds which most people run. Chaning the trait system (and removing the stats from it) will allow anet to better balance traits against each other and against other classes. If done right the result could be more viable builds and combinations.

This! There are so many things that aren’t used because they can’t be traited right or viably. I don’t think a build should be based on whether or not I can trait an ability to be viable but by whether or not I LIKE the ability.

Personally I feel like GW is about running around finding cool stuff to do, which you can do at any level. The levels scale to the area you’re in so being super high level isn’t that much of an advantage and pretty much all the content is still fun. Go explore, don’t worry about end game (cause there’s not really that much of it)

No Trinity and Maybe Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Photonman.6241

Photonman.6241

“More viable”? Support is literally run in every serious dungeon run ever, and control is a major part of every build. Phalanx Strength Warrior is support, and is the 100% defacto for every dungeon team that wants to do a serious dungeon clear. Control is in every single meta build to some degree. It just doesn’t have a defined person specifically doing it.

The Trinity, outside of control, is definitely represented in spades. The fact that you don’t have to have them, though, is something that ANet wanted from the get go. They wanted there to be no reason to have to just wait on a specific role/class to show up to do something, and there really isn’t.

I don’t see how bringing two skills makes you a support character. He’s still in full zerker and he’s still trying to pump out pure damage. Calling that support is a joke. The closest thing we have to support I’d say is mesmer and guard running reflect, and even then it’s just bringing one or two skills. By support I mean bringing a full build and buffing, blocking, and some minor healing for the team. Personal damage would not be a factor at all. This isn’t possible atm which is why it needs to be made ‘more viable.’

No Trinity and Maybe Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Photonman.6241

Photonman.6241

I don’t see why roles have to be trinity. Make it so you have to bring different things without needing a dedicated tank. We already have this to some degree with condi and support builds they just need to be made more viable. Atm it’s just a side thing people throw in as a bonus. And more dungeon mechanics would be nice. Something other than ‘dodge now’ or ‘use the big cannon.’

Thats not the issue. Its that we get since a year almost ONLY outfits and the “anti outfit” crowd gets impatient cause they also want their shiny, new nice things. Imagine you and your brother or sister go shopping with mom and only she/he gets what he/she wants while you dont get something. Sure he/she deserves as much as you to have nice things but since a long time only he/she gets it… while you get nothing you want. Thats the issue and nothing else.

I can’t believe how well you summed that up. It’s like children complaining that someone else got something they wanted and you didn’t. Totally perfect.

I’d sink the most money in the processor just so you don’t have to upgrade it later. Graphics card and ram and stuff can be swapped out on the fly pretty painlessly but upgrading you processor is a huge money sink. Also the smaller less important pieces can be salvaged from old computers you might have lying around. Power supply, hard drives, stuff like that. No reason to buy totally new ones unless you absolutely have to. They’re relatively cheap, but the cost adds up, you can easily save a few hundred if you don’t start from scratch. Also go out and find a kittening case. It’s a silly little thing but you’ll feel way better when you computer looks as cool as it is. Mine glows blue and eats other computers for sustenance. Mwuhahahaha
