Just think, they probably would have killed it if they didn’t bring any condition classes.
Actually considering he has a stackable armor buff that conditions can go through I’d say they could have used more condition professions.
Conditions are still capped. Capping Burning and Bleed takes about 4 players. There will be 100+ on the map.
Just think, they probably would have killed it if they didn’t bring any condition classes.
How do you know it isn’t working as intended? Has a dev made an official statement like they did for Cliffside fractal? Why, exactly, is it wrong for at least one of the paths to have a somewhat challenging encounter? Why, do you contend, that the appropriate difficulty level of f/u is to be on par with the other paths? Isn’t it possible that the devs intended for it to be more difficult?
The devs intend that if you don’t kill this your first attempt, you’re not allowed to kill it at all. That’s why the spiders don’t despawn, obviously.
i ran an invis build. i really dont like s/d or s/p for anything other than spvp. just kinda stupid that there is a TIMER (made so you cant hide or take ur sweet kitten time) AND a 60 sec reveal buff. i mean really thats just rediculous. its saying you cant play thief unless ur not going to use stealth. that means no init gain no condi removal no blinds no regen no init regen no backstab no sneak attack no tactical strike etc etc. seems like alot to take away. imagine if they did that to another class. ouch.
Don’t run an invis build for him. It costs 3.5s to respec.
You probably don’t even need to respec. Just put a pistol in your offhand and spam blinding powder and autoattack him.
Thief has it just as easy in the gauntlet.
really? go try do deadeye with frailty and squeemish gambits for the acheivement …dont mind the autmatic 60 sec revealed buff everytime :P gluck.
5 gambit Deadeye takes me a whopping 30 seconds and has absolutely no randomness to it. Revealed doesn’t even matter.
I killed everything on my first attempt, including Liadri.
Screenshot or it didn’t happen.
It’s a little late for that, unless you meant screenshot my achievement page, which I can’t do because I’m at work.
I don’t see how it is completely unbelievable, Stealth completely stops the fight if you’re in a bad situation. I also saw other people doing it before me, and figured out the AoE patterns.
Care sharing the build, please?
0/0/30/20/20
Blind on Stealth, Stealth returns initiative, regen on stealth, dodge gives might, dodge removes weakness/cripple, dodge drops caltrops, steal grants vigor.
I also used dodge food.
Worked on every boss.

So basically, this is a huge gold sink within a farmable area? No amount of retraiting is going to make you that much different without completely reequipping your character.
I have a full glass cannon Thief. I respecced in to Shadow Arts, Acrobatics, and Trickery (full defensive) while still using my glass cannon gear. I killed everything on my first attempt, including Liadri.
Shadowfall is a 2~ second AoE telegraph that covers a quarter of the room (half the room in p2), and it always spawns in a predictable location.
Visions of Demise are slow and spawn in a predictable location.
Liadri’s other attacks do not oneshot.
Orbs appear 8-10 seconds before they pull. You can kill them to prevent getting pulled. Its not “predictable” really, mostly luck for the first run (based on spawn, orb and well location)
The AoE’s, Visions, and white circles spawn in the same location in the same order every time. That is the very definition of predictable!

Watch the AoE’s carefully and it should be pretty clear what you have to do. I’ll give you a hint; there is a pattern.
Use it like eat it? If I keep picking meat I cant dps
The meat increases your damage, so it doesn’t matter if you lose DPS by going to get it.
Consider using a ranged weapon if you find yourself chasing meat the entire fight.
Sounds like a job for dodge food, Eulolia.
Poop! I thought this gauntlet had it own set of skills and stuff. Means I have to dump MORE money into gear because Anet insist on forcing me to lvl too fast, no lvl lock to have to stop lvling up. Gear went from 4 silver to 40, don’t know why the huge gap but it is -_-
You could just try respeccing to cover your weaknesses instead of completely changing your gear.
i.e.
If you’re full Berserker, play a defensive spec.
If you’re full tanky, play an offensive spec.
They die in one hit. Ranged weapons get obstructed on them a lot, but you can still smack them with a melee weapon.
do I lose my progress if I switch back to tier 1? Is there a list of enemies to choose from?
You don’t lose progress.
You can choose from a list of bosses to fight at the fight manager.
Endure pain not working , defy pain and signet of stamina not working ! TYVM
Endure / Defy pain prevent direct damage, not health loss. Unfortunately for you, all the oneshots are health loss. Try dodging them.
boss is sucky , want youtube video of devs doin it
What do you find bad about it? I thought the boss was quite good for a solo encounter.
The only really bad part is the constricted camera from being in a dome.
Kill cosmic rifts, break shield, don’t stand in AoE, don’t let her blender you, kill her before you run out of time.
Buy some dodge food while you’re at it, too.
Are you able to start at the last boss you couldn’t defeat – or do you have to fight all ‘pre-bosses’ first again?
When you enter the gauntlet, you automatically fight your highest progressed boss.
If you want to fight a different boss, you have to talk to the fight manager beforehand.
You get a bag. It has cogs and money in it, and a chance of containing a weapon skin. You get more bags if you do more gambits.
Looks like a guardian is a must for any group composition.
That is true for all PvE.
If something is hard, get a Guardian.
If it’s still too hard, get a full support Guardian.
If it’s still too hard, get two Guardians.
So much for no healers!
If you want to get 50 kills, you have to kill them fast. I don’t think you’d be able to do it with any less than 4 DPS. You can get away with 4 DPS easily with a full support Guardian bulking everyone else up (healing gear, symbols heal, large symbols, hammer autoattack symbol, virtue of resolve passive shared, boon duration, etc).
Lifesteal crit food helps a lot too. You take a lot of little damage, and it really helps out over the long run.
Mortars kill themselves with projectile reflects.
Hi Pinch, could you please describe your group composition and stragegy u guys used?
Thanks
Full Support Guardian (Hammer/GS)
Zerk Ele (Lightning Hammer)
Zerk War (GS/Axe)
Zerk Thief (S/D & S/P)
Zerk Mesmer (S/F, GS, pick up the other LH)
Fight mobs next to the rock, rotate projectile blockers (100% uptime), spam blinds on the melee mobs. Pull the far plunderer to you, or have the Thief run out and daze spam if you get too many in a row. That’s honestly about it. Don’t forget to use consumables.
With a full support hammer guardian, projectile blockers, and a lot of blinds, you can facetank the mobs. The only thing you really have to watch out for is the swashbuckler’s bleed attack. I think most of us used lifesteal on crit food for sustainability. I certainly needed it as the Thief.
I’ve also done 35 kills with a Condi Necro and Zerk Engineer instead of the Ele/Mesmer. The one thing I noticed with that comp is that a lack of projectile blockers makes it much more difficult.

But think about this: achieving gold is arguably harder then any lvl 48 fractal. A level 48 fractal for something that’s available for 2 weeks. Shouldn’t the reward for that be something pretty special? At the moment, no one in the hard core pve is going to try this because there’s no reason to. Literally zero incentive, beyond the challenge of it.
If you’re going to make something that hard, it’s got to have a decent reward. And I’ll be amazed if there is a single group that gets gold before the end.
Of course it’s harder than Fractals, Fractals were never hard, just long and tedious to reach high levels.
I’ve completed T4 with 5 players and 40 kills, but I didn’t think it was a big enough deal to take a picture since it only took 6 or 7 attempts. We finished incredibly sloppily (we were basically all dying at 40 seconds remaining), so I imagine 50 is easy enough with a good group comp and good execution.
I will agree that the reward isn’t worth the effort. It would seriously have to be 33%+ weapon droprate at 50 for me to bother. Too bad no one else has done it enough to tell me what the drop rate is like though!

That would have been funnier if you didn’t sound so depressed.
Aetherblade is a story dungeon and isn’t supposed to be difficult.
Condition damage can be fixed by being forced to fight a mix of regular and higher armor mobs.
Doubling condition damage is just a bandaid. The root problem needs to be solved with either some type of overflow damage when a target is capped, or changing the way conditions deal damage (i.e. one person is responsible for 2-3 stacks, not potentially all 25).
Those examples produce the same result. It doesn’t matter what order you multiply or divide.
I can’t even keep a straight face; weakness was already useless in pve.
Weakness is good in the Dredge fractal because you can’t blind them!
I just don’t get how taking back more damage than you deal (for example, multi-hit attacks versus toughness/power stacking) is balanced.

I honestly believe the dungeon team has been disbanded, spread out to other ‘teams’, and dungeons are now being left to rot.
Robert said there was no dungeon team 4 months ago after the AC changes. No dungeon team → no dungeon content.
I was going to say Glacial Heart, but you beat me to it.
The Ranger’s ‘bleed on crit’ and ‘pet might on crit’ are both pretty terrible, as they only last 1 second.
Another bad one is Thief’s ‘Sundering Strikes’ – 40% chance to cause 5s vulnerability on crit’. The problem with it is that it has an internal cooldown of 2 seconds.
There is no dungeon team right now
There is no dungeon team currently. That means there will be no major dungeon changes.
My crude calculations shows that scholar runes will be better than ruby orbs if you manage to stay above 90% of hp about 21% of the time.
It’s a bit worse than that, since Scholar runes are additive with the other compound multipliers (you’re doing 10% more of your unmodified damage).
Having said that, Scholar is still pretty much always the better choice when playing a glass cannon in the current available content.
And then A.Net actually implements interessting fights and all the zerkers will complain about it. Those tears will be delicious
Full Zerker will always be the right answer because ArenaNet will never balance content around the assumption that you have someone playing full support or full control. Even if you have Zerk gear, it doesn’t mean you can’t bring stuff like projectile blocks, blinds, weakness, protection, etc. Killing it faster is always a good solution to a fight.
25 stacks of might are almost double damage when you have base power. Do you have 916 power?
Hehe, no. But that’s not how the damage model in GW2 works.
Gw2s formula for damage is (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor).
This mean that if you’ve have 1k power you’ll maybe deal 500damage to a specific mob, but if you’ve 2k power (double) you maybe deal 1800damage.
See it as diminishing return, but it’s vice versa.
Also, at lvl 80, 25stacks of might is 875 power, not 916 ^^
Nice “math”. You managed to list the proper formula and didn’t even take the time to prove your own conclusions wrong.
Here, I’ll do it for you:
Assume 1000 dmg weapon, 1 skill coefficient, 2000 target armor.
1000 power: 1000 * 1000 * 1 / 2000 = 500
2000 power: 1000 * 2000 * 1 / 2000 = 1000
You double your power, you do double damage.
The only time getting 25 stacks of might gets close to doubling your damage is if you have base power, like haviz said.
On-topic: Hard content will come eventually. Maybe.
(edited by Pinch.4273)
Your math isn’t entirely accurate, OP. You multiply by your crit modifier after the combined modifiers. It’s also not a multiplication by 3.53 like you seem to imply, but rather 2.53 (0.96 * 2.64 = 2.53, avg crit multiplier).
Also, something to keep in mind regarding weapons; Cluster Bomb hits 5 targets and has a larger radius than Pistol Whip, while having a similar damage per initiative as PW.

Jade Maw is not possible at 50+ with current gear. It deals 1172%HP/sec, which would require 980 AR to completely mitigate.
You could exploit past it before January, so that is how people are above 50. If you have someone above 50, you can do odd level Fractals to keep increasing your level. Nothing changes past 50 other than trash mob level (mobs are 84 at 80, the true cap). Agony is still 72%HP/sec, and loot is still the same.
It’s an intentional wall, but there has never been a response on why. I doubt we’ll ever get a straight answer.
(edited by Pinch.4273)
i would really hope this month they add /more thing to fotm is been 3+ month since they do anything but nerf drops rate and stuff to fotm
they also buffed agony damage. Not conspiracy here, they actually buffed it. Proof is when I first got 30ar and did frak 48, I could just barely survive 3 ticks of agony at maw (with or without healing, still went down up on 2nd, down on 3rd). A while back I noticed I was going down on the 2nd tick instead of the 3rd with 30 ar. Needless buff imo.
Your backpack was probably broken.
Generally speaking, it’s not enough at all you will die very very quickly with 45 AR.
You’ll take 18% HP/sec with 45 AR. Jade Maw won’t even kill you if you have full health, because his ticks 8 times.
As for 40-48 in general, you can do it with as little as 20 and a stacked group (Guardians). You can do it with 1 Guadian + a few resses with 30, and You can do it with just 1 Guardian or a utility res at 40.
Have you talked about giving the ability to change map-specific values? I.E. points for orb capture, guild lord hp/dmg/health, etc?
You’d be able to make some interesting game types with customization like that!
Content locust please go to another game and leave this one alone. Better yet go outside and live for a while. That is all. Anet the rewards you have and content you have is at a perfect pace please don’t listen to the locust “hardcore” gamers.
It’s not even about that. There’s just no PvE in this game that requires you to be good at anything. The closest they get is Fractals, and “goodness” there is measured by how many projectile blockers you have, and how good you are at standing in/behind them.
There are players who want some content that requires your group to be reasonably adept at playing a video game. That really isn’t too much to ask; most video games operate with some level of challenge.
If you want hardcore, high level fractals and WvW.
Fractals are not hardcore. Group comp plays more of a role than strategy. Not to mention how uninteresting everything in it is, other than the volcano boss.
(edited by Pinch.4273)
The scaling doesn’t matter because difficulty 50 is a brick wall, and has been for months.
Difficulty 40 is doable with as little as 25AR and a stacked group (2+ Guardians and people who have utility resses).
Isnt the agony at 50+ about 1000% of your hp? You need 170 agony resistance.
It’s 1172% HP/sec. You need 980 AR to take 1% HP/sec from it.
Am I right in thinking that Lupi gained immunity to cripple in the patch? He was immune today and he previously did accept a crippled icon and did seem to walk slower (in phase 3) when crippled.
He has -100% condition duration.
If you have no condition duration, you cannot apply conditions to him. If you have any condition duration, you can apply shorter duration conditions.
I.E. if you have 30% condition duration and use a 10 second cripple, he’ll get hit by a 3 second cripple.
Your comment made me facepalm so hard. Seriously it did.
What is your definition of “huge”, in a percentage value?
Unless you’re a ranger using melee weapons, or your pet is down.
If you’re using melee weapons, you are collateral damage, sorry, but you’re still not losing as much damage as KorKor is seemingly implying (unless he has a different definition of “huge” than me). If your pet is dead, you were already losing tons of DPS and that has nothing to do with the QZ change.
(edited by Pinch.4273)
Ranger which -DEPENDED- on quickness to be relevant as a DPS CLASS at ALL. Would have not have had a LARGE CHUNK of their dps ripped away from them!
These forums are home to some of the most extreme hyperbole I’ve ever seen. You’re hardly losing any DPS by this change. You lose more DPS from swapping to a melee pet and having it have to run to the target than you lose from the 50% reduction in attack speed for two seconds. As for the utility QZ, everyone got hit by the same nerf, so you’ll just have to make do.
