Out of the lot, Deadeye makes me itch the most to test in OW PvE… but during the elite spec beta, I was hugely disappointed by the “special” firing sounds. But we will see. Never underestimate the next “balance” patch.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

I have never been able to seriously play a female character, I never connect with it and therefore don’t give a kitten about it. And if I don’t give a kitten about it, I don’t bother leveling or gearing it.

Basically this. But it doesn’t stop me from playing games with female protagonists.
Just in the case of GW2, I can’t seem to stick to female characters all too long.

Unflashy enough?

Wanted to leave out all the halos, spikes, wings and what-not to create a more-or-less realistic armor set. The only thing that still annoys me are those “ears”. But then again, I haven’t found another heavy headpiece that satisfies my fashion wars needs.

Most parts are Phalanx Armor, gloves and leggings are Councilguard, tho.

At first I was skeptic, but the raptor feels and looks amazing! Also, the map is gorgeous. I wanted to play, but spent actually lots of time just looking at the landscape. The mobs are pretty cool, well themed and animated. But my main gripe so far is that it took me forever with a power build to down anything, while not being damaged enough to die. Some of the mobs seem to have too big HP pools. I’d rather get hit a little harder in exchange for feeling as if I do hit harder, if you know what I’m sayin’.

Wonderful job, Anet! Can’t wait for the Xpac!

Gathering In Elona - All Tiers Please

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Plautze.6290

Plautze.6290

In my humble opinion, the system is fine just the way it is. If I want to progress in the story, I go to Elona. If I want to get my butt kicked, I go to HoT. If I simply want to farm, I do map completion on the other char or simply go to a fitting map and run around there, doing events, gathering nodes, helping others. Mostly I end up chatting with some random person and what can I say, in the end it doesn’t feel like wasted time to me.

So to sum it all up, I am perfectly fine with the way it is. Of course you only get mithril and elder wood (not counting that droplets or Ori and Ancient wood) but on the other hand any legy demands a metric tonne of them.

If it were the other way around, everybody and their mum would be complaining that there should be a map that only drops T5 mats to supplement legendary crafting’s mithril hunger.

Balance patch 16 May

Before I get torn to shreds: I refer only to PvE. And this is my opinion. You are entitled to your own opinion, which doesn’t mean that I’m interested in it, so no reason to verbally flail me. Read my post, agree or disagree with it, but don’t start any bullkitteny argument about it. I write this to give another perspective compared to my post from 5 days ago (please see above).

ANet, I have to make a concession. After playing 5 days post-patch, I think the increased cast time of Arc Divider is actually fine, as it makes the skill look more epic when the Warrior actually has to wind up his Arc… like he was actually carrying 2 meters of forged steel, you know, and not just 2 meters of card board or ply wood.

The rest of the nerfs are still so-so. Headbutt still looks ridiculous with its increased movement distance and the warrior winding up a skill for ages which is actually supposed to be a surprise attack.

One thing I’ll never forgive though is the nerf to shield bash… Why, Anet, why?!? This is like nuking a bad guy (the needed nerfs) and incidentally killing Timmy, the cutest, smartest and bestest toddler on earth. How can you look into the mirror, I ask thee? /mic drop

Apart from that, yeah, the self-stun is an opportunity. IF you hit. But the chance of actually hitting has drastically decreased thanks to future warriors flying headfirst for 400 units during 0.75 seconds of slow-mo.

But as emkelly said, perhaps in two weeks we are all gonna laugh about this… or all other players are gonna laugh about warriors, not quite sure.

Balance patch 16 May

in Warrior

Plautze.6290

since when had Headbutt had any real tell aside from “knowing” a warrior is going to do it? no, sorry but headbutt was op, and as a side note Berserker (and Elite Specializations as a whole" are OP as hell)

I have never been a fan of the way elite Specs work with the core mechanics of a class (which is part of the reason I have cut back on GW2 and started playing Overwatch. At least these changes lessen the impact of Berserker by cutting down on the insane power creep. The other Elites also too a hit while the Core mechanics of the classes got some decent buffs.

Headbutt has a tell in the animation that was made just for it. Headbutt tracks your target but it’s also very easy to dodge it even without realizing you did so. Most of the whining were from people who went toe-to-toe with a Warrior and got a Headbutt to the face. “Waah he hit me, nerf nerf nerf”

Honestly, by the time the headbutt’s animation started, it was too late to do anything about it.

Shield bash was supposed to be largely-untelegraphed, though, and worked fine as such (It countered telegraphed attacks, as a shield bash usually does in games.) – you knew the Shield Bash was a threat, though, because the Warrior had a shield out. It’s kind hard to miss such a large piece of equipment.

Headbutt being Shield Bash, But Without The Massive Chunk of Metal and with instant-full Adrenaline got them both nerfed

Funny enough that headbutt had an in-built nerf by stunning the attacker as well for 1sec. It’s actually the only elite skill that has a real drawback. On the other hand, there seem to be classes that have only lackluster elite skills… okay, I get it

Balance patch 16 May

in Warrior

Posted by: Plautze.6290

Plautze.6290

Alright, the Primal Bursts are OP, so we nerf them. But why nerf them twice (in case of Arc Divider)? First, the increase cast time, thus reducing DPS, second they reduce Primal Burst Frequency. What use does that adrenaline have if I can’t spend it? That makes the whole Berserk thing absurd. Especially, why apply all changes to PvE, when clearly most of the changes were demanded by PvP warrior victims?? I just don’t get it. Nerf damage or something, but these changes literally ruin the whole rhythm of Power Berserker DPS rotation. The buff to most axe attacks doesn’t change anything on the fact that you just totally broke berserker playability (which may include axe as well). Well done. Also, increasing the movement on Headbutt… now you totally led the whole idea of a headbutt (quick surprising attack with very limited range) into absurdity, when I think about my warrior craning his neck back for 0.75 seconds and then start flying 400 units to be dodged when he finally arrives. Has anyone at ANet ever seen a headbutt happen, I wonder?

What I understand the least: Why shield bash??? I can’t prevent myself from feeling somewhat forced to play dual axe. Shield: Nerfed. Mace: Nerfed. Axe: Buffed —> Dual Axe. Very subtle, ANet.

At least I can go back to core warrior and pick defense over berserker to use that shield mas… oh wait, you broke the shield, I forgot.

Edit: Funny how they changed exactly a rather feared PvP build into oblivion. GS/m+sh will be deader than dead soon. Finely tuning it down… with a sledge hammer. And as if that was not enough, PvE players get punished for the other classes’ inability to counter one build. No need to develop a counter for that particular build, just cry loud enough and it will get nerfed.

So, fellow warriors, which build of other classes irks you the most? If we cry loud enough, it will be nerfed to the ground. The louder we cry, the higher will the cast time increase to ALL thief attacks be

Edit²: ANet, sorry for my power rant here, but while some changes are nice and needed, others are just complete garbage. Looking at the changes the other classes have received it comes to my mind that you truly hate your Warrior class

Let's get real about about leather prices.

in Living World

Posted by: Plautze.6290

Plautze.6290

A pretty easy fix would be to just make leather have a chance to be salvaged from all armor types, not just medium… Especially since all armor types need it to craft anyways.

That is actually a pretty good idea, if done correctly.

It always makes me smile to see my warrior in shiny armor that’s actually made out of one part metal and nine parts insignias/leather. Still, it looks all metal-ish…? Basically, all weight classes are wearing leather jumpsuits, with lights sewing cloth onto theirs and heavys metal plates onto theirs. Mediums have to reinforce their leather jumpsuit by adding even more leather. That makes it a leather² armor.

Somebody should do a comic about the crafting process “So, I got all I need for my metal armor: 10 ingots of metal, (shows small pile of ingots) 6 bolts of cloth (shows some bolts of cloth) … and 1.456 squares of leather. Oh, wait! (picture zooming out to show a mountain of leather)”.

As there is not much left to be said, I’ll just add my voice to the chorus of “beautiful map, awesome mastery, story too short”. Contrary to quite a few other players I think that “putting EDs to sleep” is a nice twist that leaves a lot of room for surprises. Maybe the device only works for a very short duration? Maybe we are fighting the gods in the next expac and just when we need it at least, the ED re-awake? That would be cool.

I only wish that the fact that killing all the EDs would destroy the world was worded more clearly. We get the cinematic and the commander knows it all while I as a player am left behind to guess. Something as meaningful as “we abandon our mission of the last 4 years only because Taimi made a power-point presentation of some floating orbs indicating the impending doom if we keep our current course” would deserve at least one line of dialogue where we can ask what we just saw.

But all in all, I really liked this rather short episode.

100 gold to craft light armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Plautze.6290

Plautze.6290

On the one hand, it is actually nice to have a long-term goal. For me, that’s ascended armor for my main. Atm I have all the deldrimor I need but lack (ofc) damast and elonian leather, a lot of those. But that’s perfectly fine as I understand that Asc is top tier gear and should not be handed over to me. I don’t even expect to have it before next year taking my casual play into account. But that is totally okay, as it is top tier gear.

Exotics, on the other hand… you see where this is going, right? Maybe back in those days, exotic was the top tier gear and therefore hard to get, but nowadays, lets be frank, it is the absolute base requirement. Sure, lvl80 rare is nice as well. But in the back of my mind, there is always that exotics-ghost telling me that there is better gear. And this gear, in the case of an engi for example, needs a certain amount of leather which will cost me that much that I refuse to spend that amount of gold on a single character when I still have 6 more to level up and gear out.

Sure, for all those vets who have spent thousands of hours into the game and have thousands of gold, that’s not much. But if you are like me, a casual player, who after around 18 months of casual play managed to get his hands on ~500g and also has other things in mind than spending one fifth of that slowly-earned money on one set of armor… that amount just stings, especially when you can buy lvl78 exotics for around 6g/set.

But I understand both sides. If I would literally bath in gold, 100g wouldn’t be a matter for me. But sadly, I don’t and thus feel like “certain” materials are overpriced. But happily, the lvl78 exotics is a good workaround to start with.

Edit: Writing too much and not checking it.

Just a flesh wound shows us some good ways to get geared without beggaring ourselves. Tried that on my last 80, playing in lvl76-lvl78 exotics, didn’t notice any difference, YMMV.

Someone in a previous thread about the price of exotics suggested ‘not-quite-level-80’ gear as a cheap alternative for a new char. (Was that you?). I recently leveled a new guardian to 80 and tried 78 level gear. I use nourishments to add a few points and for general PvE I don’t notice a difference and it was very cheap, less than a gold apiece.

Nope, wasn’t me tried it the first time myself on my mesmer.

Doing the same over and over again doesn’t exactly sound like casual play to me, more like a grind. But then again, “casual” seems to mean different things to different people. To me, it means having 1 to 1.5 hours time each day, in which I want to do what I want instead of working on a checklist to grind out my gold. When a game (which is supposed to be fun) becomes a chore, something is utterly wrong.

So, all your math aside, you seem to have another idea of “casual” as others have. Let’s leave it at that.

That is utter kitten.

Perhaps, but not with casual play.

I second that.
If it were a few days of casual play, I’d be a GW2 millionaire instead of being short of my first 1k.
Apart from that, the price for hardened leather IS outright ridiculous when at the same time, you can buy a heap of Ori or a whole metric tonne of gossamer, for the same price (exaggeration for the sake of picturesque-ness). But that’s another discussion led elsewhere and between the rich lords of GW2 sitting on their hoards of hardened leather and the casual players that finally want to gear out one of their chars.

I suppose Kuu was referring to the price of hardened leather, which medium armor uses the most.

And it is indeed a killer. Ori, ancient wood and gossamer are okay to buy, but hardened leather is just ridiculous. Further more, requiring 5 patches to make one insignia seems to be a very cheap trick to artificially increase the “exoticness” of exotic armor.

If you have a couple of million karma a direct way to get exactly the tier you want is to throw 4 cloth karma armour into the mystic forge (or in a easier way mystic conduit that can be made or bought directly from the tp). Use the wiki to find the karma merchant in the map level equivalent to the tier material you want. The product can then be broken down, you have a small chance to get back a soulbound item but just throw that back into the forge with 3 other karma items.

If you’ve got karma to burn, this is your best bet. Tried it with 100k karma (or maybe more) and got almost an entire stack of linen scraps.

Plautze.6290

Greetings to all.

I know this is quite a long shot, and I know it is a lot to ask. After playing now for quite some time, I would like to start joining in with playing Fractals. However, due to the typical responsibilities of being a parent and day to day life, my game time is limited to after hours when I can find some time to play. I’ve been working on trying to get my crafting skills up to the point where I can craft some ascended weapons, but it is extremely slow going, and I feel it is currently beyond my reach.

My desire, lofty as it is, is to obtain a legendary Axe for my Necromancer. I’ve had my eye on Frostfang, but I know that it is really just a dream at this point. I would be extremely grateful to just obtain an ascended axe that I could then use to start playing in the Fractals and load up with some agony infusions. (I hear that they are an absolute necessity when joining fractals.)

I was able to pick up a couple ascended rings in Lion’s Arch with laurals, but I know that in order to be an effective member of a group, I will need to work on getting my agony resistance up, and find a weapon that can help me do my part within the group.

So, that is my desire in a nutshell. I would be eternally grateful for any kind hearted assistance.

Server: NA (Isle of Janthir)

Hello there!

Maybe I misread, but what exactly is your wish? As far as I know, ascended weapons can not be traded as they are account bound. So in order to get an ascended weapon, you need to level that crafting discipline up to 500 and then produce all those ascended materials to finally craft your weapon.

So, do you need materials to level your crafting or do you need materials to craft your ascended? Or do you want crafting mats for your legendary journey to craft Frostfang?

On another note, agony resistance is not needed before fractal level 20, I think. So, in other words, you can do fractals 1-19 without any agony resistance.

I hope that helps to some extent. If you formulate your wish more clearly, the community can help you better.

Just to add my 2 cents:

Welcome back to the game! From what I’ve learned, Warrior is a nice class for beginners as well as Guardian. I recently capped a Necromancer and turned him into a Reaper and LOVED the gameplay, but the way there was rather sloggy imho. Pew-pew ranger I found rather boring. I told my pet to attack, unloaded my barrage and kept on pew-pewing and thought “So that’s it?”. However, things churned up a bit once you learn how to swap weapons (Lv10) and pop barrage and then swoop in to maul the enemy with your greatsword.

So after all, I’d say go Warrior, Ranger or Guard. If you’re masochist and like hitting things for ages before they go down, go Necro :P

Edit: And do yourself the favor and don’t just run from POI to waypoint and so on but explore like you naturally would. You see a mighty tower bathed in flame and instead go to the invisible POI that’s in the opposite direction? Yeah right If you do it naturally, you’ll feel much more immersed rather than just completing a check-list. That is, if immersion is your thing

Elite Sepcialization Lore

in Lore

Posted by: Plautze.6290

Plautze.6290

Now that I come to think of it, not a single one of our skills/traits is truly “taught” to us. Back in GW1, there was the Prophecies Tutorial [And Shingjea and that tutorial town in Nightfall that was “attacked” by 2 corsairs] and the Skill Trainers showing us their tricks, but in GW2 we just happen to poke some wolfs long enough with a stick that we know, out of a sudden, how to summon a banner, a magic sword or build a turret?

I know that I’m fetching pretty far, but maybe the answer to why there is no lore behind becoming elite specs is simply that there is no lore behind picking up skills at all? You get enough HPs and a free slot? Get a skill. You got even more HPs? Train a trait. By doing effectively nothing apart from standing still for 5 secs and staring without focus (if the game was real), you become more potent and know how to build a rifle turret by simply wanting to do so. Wow. For me as RL engineer, that would be an awesome skill

Back to topic, I doubt that there will be any elite spec lore implemented on the existing ones. For the future ones, I still have some slim hope. But I guess we’ll see.
On the other hand, though, if there was lore to explain everything, there would be no such interesting lore discussion threads and we would all be wondering if asura and charr have romantic relations. (Looking into our world where people have the right to love objects, I am pretty sure that nothing is impossible in Tyria. Just think about them Romant-o-trons with their whirling body parts!)

If you can make it without dying – great for you, but I’m a filthy casual and just had to fight the final boss naked from all the wipes thouse jade constructs cost me (still no anvil in the entire instance, great). Nothing fun about this fight, honestly – previous boss fights in LW S3 were difficult, but mostly in a good way. This is just BS, a story instance I will never touch again, not event for a milion AP.

I know you posted another post already, but ^this is exactly how I felt after the fight and still feel about it. “I will never touch [this instance] again, not event for a million AP”.

I mean, if something is wrecking you with every blow, mass AoE and perma-CC, it should at least not have a gazillion HP and be invulnerable 70% of the time. At least this fight was so tedious that I greatly doubt it could be any worse and started reading up on raid bosses it simply can’t be worse than that fight.

Game design problems

It most definitely took me more than one fully leveled char to even get a glimpse of the games mechanics.

But reading your post, you simply hate GW2. So, instead of demanding that a game that has been established for almost 5 years changes completely just because YOU say so, I propose you just take your time to re-orientate in this vast ocean of possible games and play something you don’t hate every second of.

What Happened to Hardened Leather?

Can’t help but bump this topic again. And again. And again. Until something is done.

Good luck there. When LS3 Ep4 with its glorified leather farm came in there was a 200+ post thread here considering all this situation. And none of the devs commented there, even with a single post. At the same time they made lots of comments in threads about cats.
They just don’t care about h.leather price. Why bother? It is not something really important. Like cats.

I suppose you’re right -.- so I’ll do what I do best: Stick to it. It may take me 20 years, but in the end, I’ll have my <insert item here>. I may be the only person playing GW2 by then, but: Mission Accomplished.

So, where are those cat threads…?

I do understand that exotic armor should not come from doing nothing, but the sum of all those changes is just too much. Why do we need 5 patches for just 1 insignia, when all other tiers just need 1 patch for 1 insignia, which makes a lot more sense. Why would any person need 5 patches to make one insignia? What are they doing with the rest of the patches? Practice the inscription?!

All in all, the insignias need more than twice as much leather as the entire armor (for medium armor which is supposed to be made mainly of leather) … kind of weird. Also, the drop rates of hardened leather are almost non-existent.

“the problem is that we needed a slight nudge, and what we got was a hammer blow.”
This sums it up nicely. I’m not asking to make hardened leather cheap as hell, just make it drop more often so one doesn’t have to beggar himself in order to make one set of exotic armor. And pls, pls, PLS change that absolute nonsense of needing 5 patches to craft 1 insignia. There is just no reason to do this apart from abstrusely manipulating the market.

If there was a zombie apocalypse IRL

Engineer.

Zombies would have a hard time biting through leather armor, which would be easier to move in than heavy.

Easy pick IMO.

having second thoughts on a light class now, I don’t want to run around in a robe, unless I can improvise with a bathrobe, and nothing else underneath, the freedom and comfort of survival.

Duct tape over the cloth of a robe would get your light armor to nigh zombie bite-proof.

But improvising with duct tape really does sound like an engineer skill…

That’s my only and most persistent gripe with the class… no duct tape skill.

btt: Engineer, cause engineer IRL. With endless supplies of scrap parts lying around everywhere, there should be absolute nothing that can’t be crafted. Think about the car from army of darkness

Skipping waypoints

Another walker here. If I can help it, I avoid waypointing altogether, the exception being rezzing after shameful defeat and when having something to do in HoT, but being on the other side of the world map. As I have only limited playtime per day (working sucks but it gives you shinies), I don’t want to spend it walking through all of Tyria (which I do all the time when I’m not up to something, like completing DS).

If he was a she, I would go by the name Evilla McVain, but as he’s a he and looks like a greek statue, maybe Thanatos, or actually <insert greek god of underworld name here> would be my guess.

So, alacrity being exclusive to Mesmers would make all the bad Mes players out there become good? Even me…? I highly doubt it Would it even make ANY frkn difference if alacrity were exclusive to Mesmers? No? Then I really don’t get the point of this whole discussion, maybe I’m just dumb.

This reminds me so much of a girl spotting another girl wearing the same dress and going crazy…
