Anyways, I’m not trying to argue over semantics here, but I wanted to point out that I don’t believe for one minute that SoR’s surge in score performance was all due to one factor. There was definitely a morale/motivation/fairweather effect, like there is for all servers.

Sure, that happens to some extent no matter what server you are on and it would be foolish to think otherwise. I was just pointing out the elephant in the room to you. When NA can spend 2-3-4-5 hours racking up PPT instead of trying to simply get back to even footing (which on some nights took the entire night if it happened at all), everything else you mentioned follows…..

Not sure where the disconnect with that was to be honest.

We had one change to our server that occurred that made the difference between BG beating us by 60k and us beating BG by 60k ….and it wasn’t fair weather players. Those trickled in after the fact.

You just admitted IRON carried SoR to number 1. They were the “one change”.

A 30 man guild resulted in a 120k point swing in a NA T1 match. I’m impressed.

With credentials like these, it’s hard not to carry an entire server.

It’s just Aurust. The vast majority of SoR I’ve come across were cordial and encouraging.

Aurust is like that old man on his front porch that scowls and yells at the kids having fun in the street, because it seems like he just hates fun in general. Just ignore him like the kids do cause he is pretty harmless when you factor in his walker if he ever does decide to come after you.

I know I for one love TC and would like to see them become more competitive (in terms of coverage, not heart or skill) in the future.

It’s amusing how BG is doing blackouts to get even more guilds.

I mean they are the first server to cry when they lose, first server to gloat when they win, but the last server to try and help balance a tier.

I think it’s pretty safe to say, that you do not need more guilds, just organization. Try doing the right thing and sending your potential recruits to the server that does need them(JQ). At least, SoR refuses transfers and sends them both our way, BG on the other hand cares only about winning it seems and over-stacking their server.

SoR didn’t think of balancing the tier when they accepted IRON and began getting blowout wins.

Looking at his posts, you can come to your own conclusion about the type of person he is and that he is from BG. This resulted in a small landslide of SoR and even some JQ posters saying “dude wtk, not a blow out, why does BG always whine about these things?”. This resulted in an argument about a predominant generalization that BG is whining about SoR stacking (even though it’s only a few posters). In turn, the level headed BG posters are trying to rebut the arguments made against above quotes which has resulted in the heated mess you see now.

In general I believe it is still a relatively stable score, where SoR has the advantage. Whether that is due to attrition in BG, lack of recruits in JQ, or SoR players coming out of the woodwork due to IRON is anyone’s guess, but those seem to be the dominating topics that are being hotly contested.

In reality, I hope RE goes to a lower ranked server so we can see some new servers make it up to the higher tiers. Joining an already stacked server just makes the game uninteresting. This patch was badly needed just so we could get some new faces. Having servers gain a guild that isn’t a “WvW server” makes things more interesting for everyone.

Please keep in mind that SoR wasn’t doing much before IRON came to your server with almost two full guilds, leavign SoR with an EU presence that can cover a 40+ man zergs on 3 different maps at the same time. Funny on how most nights the BG TS is reporting a 40+ zerg on BGBL and JQBL and we are seeing a 40+ also on EB. At the same time. But what have you I have also seen IRON and lORN which is iron and Lorn. I know this only becuase A few guild friends that have friends on SoR ( gasp spy ) have applied to both. This doesn’t change the fact SoR be it good in their own rights have IRON to thank for their recnt wins. I fail to see what the problem is with this. They have stated, and shown, that more and more abilities are being progressively added to these trait lines. It’s only natural that eventually, all the different siege weapons/keep upgrades will have their own trait lines. Whether or not you use them for your build in WvW is your choice and one that I am glad they don’t make for us.

I personally like having all the options available to me instead of someone saying, “o well, that’s kind of pointless to have a burning oil trait line even though we have trait lines for everything else regarding keep upgrades.” I may never use them, but what is the harm in having them?

The question is who benefits from these changes? I am referring to the changes implemented by aranet.

The smaller groups of players that roam. It makes their work much more valid when smaller groups can flip camps/take towers punishing the larger roaming zerg with no scouts. I see these changes all done in order to break up the larger zergs although it is certainly a work in progress.

Break up the zergs, everyone is happier. You have more individualized battles instead of spamming skills, less skill lag without a code/hardware overhaul, and allows for a more engaging meta imo.

I know the OP had a problem with a camp flipping before the swords pop, but to a small roaming group, those swords were the bane of their existence in terms of trying to “ninja” objectives. If they sneak past scouts and find a nice nook to siege from, they would typically be thwarted by the white swords. Now that is less of an issue allowing for a new meta to emerge.

However, like stated by the OP, this places undue pressure on people to scout endlessly at objectives which is boring and unrewarding. Not sure how to reward this, but I did have an interesting idea that I wonder if anyone has implemented yet. What about patrol paths? I mean, there are already small groups of roamers running around, why not have a patrol path for maybe 4-5 small groups that is essentially scouting objectives and preventing other small groups?

Just a thought, but maybe the community just needs a little more time to adjust than just a week. Could be wrong though :P

Some people don’t know about your server and may be interested if guilds are moving from it just as people have their interests peeked when guilds move from other servers. Only SoR is this defensive over a harmless question. If you were so certain of the foundation on which your community is built do not fret this little stuff.

I’m going to assume you read the post, and understand that it wasn’t a question that was asked, but rather a goodbye post. People were assuming that the heart of the server was leaving because of someone spreading rumors. World vs. World

- Due to an overwhelming response from the community about this “Train” that “Choos” across the various WvW maps, rolling over everything in it’s path, we have decided to give a debuff to anyone bearing a “[Choo]” tag in WvW. This debuff, coupled with an increase drop rate for those that down said players, will make the players walk at half speed, attack at half the rate, and will cut down on the number of “Choo Choo’s” that can be said by their members. Also, any open field combat not using siege has a higher drop rate for precursors. Hopefully this will stabilize the WvW gameplay, community, and the official forums.

I never said anything about other traits affecting siege, I am talking about the game in general. For example, my necro still cannot see endurance or conditions during Death Shroud. A simple fix that should be a no brainer, however, it still hasn’t been done.

And don’t even get started on the skill lag with large battles that ripple throughout time and space. Or a sigil exploit that works on keep doors. Or having to camp dead mesmers in a keep till they respawn. The list goes on of things that I would rather have fixed.

I feel like I’ve stepped into the SC2 forums with all this zerg talk. SoR is definitely protoss, not zerg, just sayin.

One person can’t speak for server and those that imply it could use a reality check.

Those in the position of power such as Esoteric and Smokee may not be able to control the entirety of BG nor speak on it’s behalf, but they do have power over their own words. Their words carry more weight in the community in terms of how others view BG and to less of an extent how the forum threads go (much less of an extent in some cases XD).

It’s just fact. You all are a deserving Tier 1 server without a doubt, but the attitudes of some elitists in SoR acting as though Blackgate doesn’t “deserve” to be here if not for mass transfers is nothing short of hypocritical given that SoR got transfers just to get where they are right now. There is also no doubt that gaining 254 rating from SBI (go to millennium, if you do not believe me) is the reason that you jumped to Tier 1 so fast, not because that rating was “earned”, rather, farmed.

I’m not even going to dispute it, we were in the right place at the right time to both receive transfers and gain rating, just like you were in the right place at the right time to receive your transfers from SoS.

I’m not going to get into the “facts” of your post because I’m just going to assume you are angry at said poster and those like him. I’m just letting you know as a leader of your server you came across as ranting. You have the ability set the tone for how others look at your server and the tone of this thread, but as a spectator to your post, you came off as very abrasive to a whole server because of one guy.

Now, we can sit here and argue the finer points of what you said, and why I think some things are wrong, and why you think I’m wrong on those points OR we can ignore these kinds of posters and make light of their petty attempts to bait respectable players.

So we now pick on poor BG because we can’t pick on anyone else.

Negative connotation comes from the reality that it takes more player skill to compete in small man operations than zergs. There is plenty of coordination and theorycrafting when it comes to zergs, but it’s not the same… that goes for any MMO. Now, not everyone is an elitist, and not every elitist is a kitten… so it shouldnt be an insult, just a different playstyle and preference.

What you call reality, I call subjective speculation. Are sPvP players better at roaming in WvW than you are? I would guess not, merely because they are used to a different environment requiring a different skill set. Just because they come in with a different skill set and strategy, doesn’t make them less skilled.

Players (in) a zerg may be less skilled in your particular area of expertise, but that does not make them inherently less skilled just because they can roll over you with superior numbers. In fact, there may be some “elite” roamers that just happen to be with the zerg at that time. Generalizing a zerg just makes you look like the “elitist kitten” that you mentioned, but I’m sure your probably just a nice guy that respects his opponents and loves a good fight.

Well of course! We do run on tracks ya know.

But on a more serious note, what is with all the negative connotation surrounding “zergs” that form on servers.

They have their positives and negatives just like any other strategy in the current WvW meta. They are good at taking tough objectives, but lack the mobile map presence.

However, fracturing into many small groups makes your key positions susceptible to zergs and also demoralizes your pugs.

Having a hybrid of the two is great and all, but finding that balance is difficult especially considering fluctuating numbers not only on a day to day basis, but on an hourly basis as well. Then you have to factor in composition of the current build being compromised by fracturing along with the current morale of the map’s troops.

This is not even taking into account going into a map with T3 enemy structures which beats groups of 15-20 with 5-10 men on siege.

So, we run a train, we run people over. That is our goal and we are good at doing it. We are exploring having multiple groups built into that strategy, but as the current WvW meta stands, zergs work well. Every server does it. And until something changes overall in WvW meta that is zerg breaking, it will probably stay that way.

Sarcasm doesnt work when it’s mostly true. Running havoc on Choo maps is easy and boring… taking camps ahead of a single giant zerg and never having anything to kill keeping our 25 stacks for hours is just… meh.

Personally, I believe that the best commanders are leading, not staying in the back. I am always behind my commander, following him in order to flank or whatever tactic he may be trying to achieve. If he stays back, it means the battles is not favorable, and we just need to play cautiously, so I will stay back with him.

With that being said, I have seen one commander that mained a thief for a while, but then switched to a warrior for more survivability. The same for my current commander that I follow, he has a staff ele, warrior, and now and guardian, and he favors the warrior and guardian because his play style is to crash into enemy zergs, not stay back. I have a commander tag on my necro, but he can stay alive as long or sometimes longer than a lot of heavies with the way I build him.

Honestly, it all depends on your tactics as a commander. If you like to bombard from afar and want your followers to do the same, then glass cannon is no problem. However, if your strategy consists of crashing, then you will probably have a hard time IMO.

I would generally advise against it, but it’s your gold and your game time so do whatever you want ^^ Just be sure you have fun with it :P

I’m not sure if that actually counts as an action to prevent you from getting kicked due to inactivity. I have at least two documented cases (screenshots) of this occurring. One with an oceanic guild on BG and one with a small guild in TC that liked to use the CD on gates to stay hidden and rez their mesmer.

In both cases, I roughly timed how long the mesmer had remained there dead and around the inactivity timer, the mesmer would lose a pair of pants or something. However, shortly after, they would either respawn or get kicked due to inactivity because their body disappeared. Either that or they just both randomly decided around the timer to respawn.

This is assuming that they are both not a part of some conspiracy to hide the fact that this does indeed work, and by tricking us few people that watch in a couple of cases, they can more easily abuse this feature. If that is the case, touche exploiters, you have bested me this time.
