I leveled 3 characters to 80, and have a 74. I find the combat in GW2 non-communicative…that is to say the spells don’t “speak” to me like some other mmo’s. I find the endgame extremely grindy and wv3 gets old fast when its the same ole same ole. Zerg vs small group….
The classes seem similar to me, at least in builds…they are kind of all the same. The community for the most part seems nice, but there seems to be less of a community.
Personally I went back to wow, but not in my old ways. I have a new found appreciation for the game in its content, polish, ease of access for solo or parties and content that is much more difficult in end game than GW2. I also did not use my old account. I started wow fresh..fresh characters, fresh perspective and chose to level a different race in a different zone and actually read the quests. Its a lot more fun then I remember.
I do miss my Asura…lil guy has so much life in him and I want to play him but the game just does not do anything for me.
Some people like Gw2, some don’t care for it. I like certain aspects of it, but dislike others. I actually missed the healer/tank/DPS trinity…its fun to be healing on my priest in dungeons in wow and I was never much of a healer guy. To make the game more palatable, also did research into the wow data centers, server populations and raid progression. I could not find the “perfect” server from my local data center, but I did find one that I am enjoying with people who are willing to help and I have met more in game friends in 5 days then I have in gw2 since launch.
IMO, give gw2 a try, play it for awhile and see if it does it for you, if not then I would find a new perspective in a different mmo that you have previously enjoyed.
…is rerolling.
Engineer.
Ohh wait, wrong thread.
I am as serious as a person can possibly be.
If you want to play a ranged class with a rifle, roll a warrior. You will save yourself a lot of time and gold.
Yes, I know it sounds odd, but warriors are great with the rifle. I have had kill shots crit for 16k…roll an asura, hide in the middle of a group in wvwvw and 1 shot shatter mesmers or engineers or thieves if your kill shot goes off.
It was fun for a while, but there’s something off about it. For me personally it was the lack of complexity in every class except for elementalist and mesmer. And I just didn’t like the playstyle of mesmer so that left me with 1 class. All the others were boring.
Tera did a whole lot of things wrong, but one thing it did amazingly well was dodging and combat. Tanking as a warrior was a blast in that game.
My problem with GW2 is lack of variety. Very few builds that work. Lack of skills that are actually significant in changing the way you do combat. Sure you can switch weapons but it often involves mostly the same strategy (not all the time, but most).
It’s like an arcade game. Once you know the right combinations it becomes extremely simple. Satisfying to play for a while, but it quickly grows stale. Combat needs more finesse and options. Skills are really limited in what you can do. The best skill combination the designers came up with (imo) was D/D elementalist. All the skills compliment each other really well. You can combo a lot of different moves. Skills can have more than one way of using them. The other classes just fell short in that regard.
I don’t feel that the combat is connected to the world. I mean…casting a certain spell does not even feel like their is any real animation.
like putting a condition on someone…it kind of just happens..vs the sound of a warlocks curse in wow or a shadow priest…
this game just seems unattached with some of the spells.
Make rifle spec a viable play style…at the very minimum on par with rifle warriors. Turrets should be as hard to kill as a treb or arrow cart in wvwvw…and have no CD on placing them.
Yes engineers damage is pathetic compared to every class in game. Yes engineers pay a “hybrid” tax on their damage and healing because apparently engineers are the only hybrid in game. Yes the reason you see12325342 threads on engineers sucking is because compared to other classes they do. Yes if you time 37 keypresses in a specific order you can do as much damage as another class who presses 2 buttons.
Yes your survivability is less, yes elementalists can bring more utility then engineers, but are not taxed for it…and yes the engineer class design makes no sense as if it was thrown together just to get the game out in time.
Logging in is an exploit.
GW’2 combat is about skill, not 1-shotting things because you have endgame gear. Gear helps, but if you are an unskilled player (which I am amusing you are because you bothered to complain on the forum) then gear won’t change that.
GW2 is a breathe of fresh air to me, among my favorite games of all time.
Thieves coming out of stealth and 2 shotting you while you never see them is not skill. Sorry. Neither is a rifle warrior behind you who charges up a kill shot… and one shots you. Neither is a portal bomb or 30v1. This game takes no more skill then any other mmo. But, you keep believing that it does and that you are somehow superior…/facepalm
Video games and logic…
DEVs will always do what they want and have an excuse for it anyway, it’s their game.
and my money pays their bills.
Warrior because they do everything well, heck a warrior is a better “ranged” class than 80% of the classes in game.
IMO, don’t spend the gold on crafting…esp if you are spending real money to get the gold.
This game is not about end game, its about the journey. Take your time leveling your character and enjoy it, because once you get to 80 everything is down hill and the game becomes more monotonous and less fun. Get your 60 bucks worth by leveling, then move on.
The people who blaze to 80 in a matter of days are the people who get burned out and whine about there being no content, when in fact, by powerleveling, they blew by it all. Or they’re the people who don’t learn their class and get wiped over and over, and choose to blame the game.
If this is your first character, take your time. Explore the world, find events, and learn how to play your class. Find friends to level with. The leveling process is part of the endgame in GW2.
If you’ve already explored the game and already have a character at 80, then yeah, crafting, when done properly, is the fastest way of leveling. Look up some guides and be prepared to spend a lot of gold.
Or they are people who rolled an engineer as a ranged class…I mean only being able to equip rifles and pistols CLEARLY means range…right. Anyway, some people rolled engineers as a range class, take months to get to 80, get gear and find out that the class is not on par with others…so maybe, just maybe they “power level” other classes because they have seen the journey already and are ready for end game.
People are not getting bored because of how they level, they are getting bored because the game is boring.
Meh..I am tired of spending money on this company trying to find a class that looks fun. Engineer is about the only one that really appeals to me but engineers simply will not get fixed.
If its ok to suggest a non MMO game, i lost hours upon hours in Skyrim.
A great game with so much potential where you can do what you want, and with a very active modding community, there is a lot off extra content to do. Even complete turnovers to bring the world into another familiar setting (Games of Thrones to mention one).
As for MMO’s i agree with you that there is not much on the market at this point that is any different then the rest. For me GW2 was a welcome break from the Wow type off game. But if you really want to play MMO, did you try Star trek Online?
Ya, I don’t know why I have not tried it. I LOVED Morrowind..I bought the collectors edition to get the music from Jeremy Soule…man the most epic theme of any game music.
I recommend Medievia. It’s not really an MMO, but it is an online multiplayer RPG. It has been around since 1991, has a very friendly player base, a helpful staff, and a very strong anti-trolling policy (basically if you’re found harassing or provoking other players you’ll either be gagged, suspended, or banned).
It is a text-based game (a MUD; Multi-User Dungeon), and can be accessed on their website (medievia.com), although I highly recommend using one of the clients they suggest on their website (Medievia’s MudMaster for windows is awesome).
Anyway, good luck, and I hope you find a game you enjoy!
TY, kinda reminds me of the Miser House game mixed with some D&D.
If you have 4 80s and one soon 80 then yes I can understand you are bored, I would to with that amount of time invested into GW2.
I would suggest EQ2 and Vanguard for that oldschool feeling.
After the fist characer to 80 (my engineer, which took close to 3 months I think) I leveled the rest using professions as they are all Asura. I actually did not start that way, I started my second character with the same approach to exploring, taking my time etc. But I wanted to play with my friends in WVWVW and the low level character without traits just gets beat up too fast. You have to be 80 and geared to enjoy it. So the leveling became more frustrating then fun. So, I leveled with professions to get 30 to 50% of it out of the way.
Well, from my point of view it seems you played gw2 like some grind-fest, which minimises your rp if not destroys it (whatever you told about ad&d).
I’m sure as hell you won’t see anything interesting in any game played like that for such a long time. Good luck in your search though.
Actually it took me a long time to level my first 80. I leveled an Asura engineer. At 80, once I got full exotics he seemed to be no stronger than when I leveled. Everything is beyond a chore and more frustrating then fun. The other classes were leveled mostly by leveling professions to get them to 80, and get them geared to try them out. Some classes like the mesmer are just horrid to play from 1-40, only at 40 do they seem to come into their own.
I want to play an Asura and pretty much only an Asura…seeing the same stuff over and over did not help me in making the game fun, it became grindy very fast. So yes, I have lots of 80’s but its not because I “powered” and missed all the content leveling, I very much saw a ton of stuff on my engineer.
I am just finding out that regardless of what I play, its simply not fun. I have spent a LOT of money to buy gems to get gold to get mats to power level my other characters yo 80 to see if the engineer was the reason I did not like the game ( and he is partially. I do enjoy my warrior and mesmer more).
My point is, I have spent more on this game than a year and a half of wow subs. If I did not like arena net, I would have not spent it. If I did not want to play the game, I would not have spent it…but now that I have spent it and nothing is making me happy in end game…I feel like I got ripped off. I chased the carrot and it was not fulfilling, so I chased the next on…same thing and on and on. At this point I don’t feel that giving arena net any money ever is worth it because ever time I do it results in what feels like “getting screwed”.
I look at it like this. Wow kept me entertained and wanting to log in for 7 years for the most part…and a good part of that was me hating the dev team…but the community, the endagame, the pvp kept me coming back.
I want this game to be very much that…and more if possible…but for me, its just not measuring up and it does not feel like their is any real development going on.
Bottom line is simple. The people like me who have paid a substantial amount would simply like to see faster turn around times for balancing, bugs etc…but these people move to slow. So, the people who are actually funding the game are in essence getting screwed vs the people who are not.
I dunna..so much of this game, the class imbalance, arena net banning people when the blink wrong, the lack of endgame, the bugs, the constant crashes and on and on are just not worth it.
So, TLDR. I get what you are saying, but it’s not like I did not try and do it “their way”. I very much did and it resulted in money out of my pocket with no fulfillment.
Perspective is pretty rough on some people. The attention seeker on the forums is usually the most abrasive undesirable you can possibly imagine playing with in game for a host of clearly obvious reasons to anyone from an opposing perspective.
But from inside the looking box, people tend to ignore reality in favor of fuel for their nuerosis and drama cravings.
I mean sure it could be a real complaint, but why would a thoughtful and rational complaint be filed on the forums if not for the sole purpose of attracting attention…?
Kicking someone so they can’t lewt is a hallowed MMO tradition. There is a specfic etiquette the majority of players follow when exacting this kind of punishment. I have every inclination that the etiquette was followed in the cases provided here.
Constantly avoiding any expression of responsibility when you screw up, ergo you fall in the hole (or any number of other mistakes made during the rest of the crawl), is among the behaviors that can result in getting kicked before lewt. Just as an example.
And before you get all semantics about it. The idea is to punish. Not to benefit. People don’t usually want to punish you unless you do something to warrant it.
^ One of those people who do guild runs and kick the pug when they fail to realize the pug is basing his movement and play by observation, and not being in vent.
I am feeling the same way. I have an 80 mesmer, 80 warrior, 80 necro, 80 engineer, 74 elementalist, 52 thief and 31 ranger.
None of the classes are really doing anything for me. The skill trees are all very similar in how the do stuff or how you build your class. I kind of miss being a “tank” or a “healer” or a “DPS”.
I think the game is just feeling stale to me already. I played wow for 7 years and it always had something that would bring me back (I have to draw a line at pandas though). SWTOR was no better than this game. I kind of miss warhammer frankly but no community.
I am starting to think the days of MMORPG’s are over. No one seems to be able to make a well rounded, polished entertaining game with lasting power anymore.
I am a fan of mecha, fantasy, steam punk, sci-fi, I really like a slot of stuff. I like some RP, and overall just love character development. I played AD&D as a kid and miss stuff like alignment and a plethora of classes. I have 4 80’s in GW2 and one who is about to hit 80. But every class I play just feels boring at 80. They really, are all very similar to me. I don’t feel like there is much in the way of variety.
I like communities but also like to be able to hit the trail and explore and see stuff for myself. I also like there to be some sense of needing to exist in game. When I played world of warcraft when it came out, I had a high warlord character. He felt like he was a high ranking official in the hordes army. He was strong in pvp and felt “epic”. I later transferred to an RP server and we did light RP, basically names and guild name were themed and we sometimes acted it out….mostly in a comical way, had lots of laughs from the community and made some friends.
I really don’t think anything exists ATM. I dont mind a montly sub, heck I prefer it because I want to see continued development and polish. This game is lacking a lot of polish to me. FRom pvp to pve and especially in crafting or the economy.
Ty for your reply in advance. I am off to bed.
But I am not enjoying my time in game. I feel no draw or need to play it.
Any players want to help this player find a new game to play? I like MMO’s, but SWTOR was bad, I tried MOP but it was to much for kids. It feels as if there are no MMORPG’s currently in the market worth playing.
Ty for your help.
I agree with you Arc TheFallen. That, and there is nothing in this game that makes me want to play anymore. Used to be when I would get bored I would log on…now, I watch crummy movies on netflix from the 80’s. Heck reading the wow forums is more entertaining than GW2 anymore…I hate to say it like that but its just my honest opinion.
I can’t believe that this game did not last me as long as SWTOR did and that game was pure punishment.
Yeah, time to put my money into netflix where it’s more worth it. But seriously, not even a “hey, if you were incorrectly banned come to us (as a nice gesture) to sort things”, it has to “i am the law, and this is what it is”. Sorry but, I don’t want that kind of virtual overseer.
Yep. Ohh well looks like arenanet/ncsoft is gonna make it to my “do not spend money with” list.
Ohh well, this is my first game to play from them, and my last.
I think its funny they want to balance the economy be perma banning people who find exploits, even if they don’t really know it’s an exploit, but refuse to balance pvp.

No, because you can use it out of combat and without targeting someone or something, no range needed.
Clearly has not tried a long range spec with an engineer.
Why does the Phase Retreat tool tip read “Range: 1200 yards” when it clearly does not teleport more than about 300 yards.
amasses no sporophyte.
I just needed to get that off my chest.
I have an 80 mesmer, 80 necro, 80 warrior and 80 engineer…I run AS a support class in wv3 and the best for it is the mesmer or necro. If I want to burst, I get on the warrior. The engineer is STILL best for pushing back enemies for keep defense or attacking a keep…and only as a grenadier.
I tried some of the “burst” specs with static discharge and its meh at best in comparison to the others when specced for burst. The only people I could take down fast, like all these “engineers are uber” vidoes, were the “80’s” with that cute little arrow pointing up referencing they are/were low levels. Mesmers, warriors, guardians, elementalists, thieves….ESP thieves and rangers still burn you faster then you can burn them. Its really sad how pathetic engineer burst is in comparison to other classes. Ohh…but I guess the uber healing (lol)and tankieness (lol lol) make up for it for that hybrid label.
But anyway…as as support class, the last one I think of getting on is the engineer.
Grammar helps us take you more seriously. Just saying. Its kindof hard to read your post, but seems really interesting.
didn’t you read the second sentence, Mr. Grammar? it says to not take it seriously. Well, overly serious
it’s a build i have fun with, and i’ve found it very effective. That’s because he did not read it. He only posts to make people feel good about engineers. It’s a PR cover up for a broken class instead of admitting they need help.
He said that he had fun with it. Are you saying he should feel bad about engineers, instead of having fun with them?
apparently i’m a PR cover up. how’s this for a PR cover up:
you’re an idiot.
If you take note on how the comment system works on these forums you would see I was not replying to you, but to Welswift. I was actually sticking up for you.
Thanks for calling me an idiot.
three things that need to happen in this game for pvp to actually be fun
1. Remove enemy name plates. Allow people to use bushes, terrain for tactics.
2. Remove tab targeting. This is so people cant just spam tab to find you.
3. Remove non target attacks, or damage. All a zerg of melee has to do is run to your body and attack, not actually target you. If they are going to allow for non targeting attacks, then make ranged infinite with aim like an FPS.
Sadly, none of this will happen.
Grammar helps us take you more seriously. Just saying. Its kindof hard to read your post, but seems really interesting.

To put it short, you wont get any buffs untill the devs first realize their filosophy for Engineer is wrong.
Good one.
So I rolled a warrior, got them to level 28, and couldn’t stand it. I really don’t care what you guys say, but spend less time on the forums and more time in game. This terrible, “High Skill Level” we keep talking about is NOT HARD. Seriously. The Engineer class is amazing and fun. You want to sit at your computer and press four attack buttons to do well on a warrior? DO IT. I will be having a blast on my Engineer, just enjoying blowing stuff up.
Engineers:
- Can kill people 1v1 in WvW. All these “Amazing Classes” have their “Amazing Specs” that are “Amazing 1v1”. And, guess what, everyone wants to be “Amazing.” So predictable. We have dodges, we have blocks. These classes are faceroll, and they roll their faces the same way every time. The difficulty to learn how to respond is minimal, but yes, you do have to respond, you can’t just tap keys in the same way every time.- Are Accepted in PvE Engineers are NOT Biased against in PvE or Fractals. I was asking a guild group what they needed for upper-level Fractals groups and they said: A non-glass cannon with plenty of AR and that are good with their feet. The class really doesn’t matter. " Seems like the spec that matters honestly. Only thing that seems to be discriminated against is stupidity.
-Are Great in sPvP. I have done A lot of sPvP, and Engineers are really great at this. Bunker builds have only improved after the last patch, you should not have been using grenades anyways. Engineers bring a unique ability to take a point under an enemy’s feet, and can bring the damage necessary to kill enemies timely in a 1v1.
Engineers have a low skill floor, hence all the complaining. We also have a very high skill cap. Yes, other classes can do well by pressing less buttons. If you are honestly overwhelmed by Engineers, then go play a faceroll class. We just really aren’t that overwhelming.
If there’s a will, there’s a way, and the way is clear as day. People who understand this Philosophy will dominate with Engineers just fine.
-Welswift
Nice PR move…but the community as a whole seems to agree with the “engineers broken” idea more than yours…even people who don’t play engineers say they are broken.
The proof is in the pudding.
while the warrior is one of the most versatile classes you cant have that anymore while being rifle spec. level a warrior to 80 and spec into the rifle you’ll see what i mean plus the engie auto attacks non crit for about as much as my warr crits for and since alot of what i do is auto attack punctuated by volley and KS it just feels better to be even auto attacking for more.
I have an 80 engineer and an 80 warrior…engineer is better geared.
What you says is true about the engineers auto attack, but the warrior has more baseline heath and armor….AND the engineer CD attacks dont hit for anything like the warrior CD attacks do.
I can literally 3 shot stuff on my warrior from 1200 yards…engineer does not even come close to that. In the time my warrior can kill someone, the engineer wont have them to 50%. Also piercing shots on the warrior FTW…ever line up a kill shot for 13k against 5 people…engineer cant do that…not in his wildest dreams.
static discharge glass cannon build is the best burst build ive played out of the 5 geared 80’s i have…imo better then thief/war/mes
using goggles/battering ram/wrench with it
tip: use goggles right after overcharged shot and it breaks the self kb instantly
not even. My engineer is my full exotic power, crit and crit damage character…warrior is not even full glass cannon and he crits with a rifle a LOT harder than engineer with a explosive, firearms, tool build. I am using goggles, battering ram and wrench and I dont hit anywhere NEAR what a rifle, axe, GS warrior does….and my mesmer who is a toughness vit gear and build can do more damage and last a lot longer and brings a lot more utility to the group.
Support rolls dont get you pvp bags…
I need to start making videos and streaming so you people can see what a good engineer is. I mean regardless of the videos that keep getting made and posted you guys are all in denial about the profession.
Maybe engineer just isn’t for you?
It would also be fair if you would preface that you see yourself as a professional gamer. 90%+ people who play this game are not. And no where does it say when creating a class that you will need to have certain professional skills to perform at the same level as other classes. This is the fundamental point you are missing.
Does the engineer require more skill than every other class in GW2, sure…but it’s not publicized which leaves the casual customer at a disadvantage if they choose to pick the engineer. In GW2, this also means a waste of real money if you purchase and convert gems into gold, as this game is not designed for farming and has code built in to prohibit farming.
Bottom line is engineer is not on par with other classes for 90% of the player base and is not publicized with a certain skill level and time requirement to do as well vs any other class who can just pick it up and run with it. This is misleading to the customer and shady business practice. A dishonorable way to make money.
But, I don’t personally see arena net in that light, being shady or dishonest. This can only leave us with one thing.
Engineers are broken.
(edited by Raideen.5973)
I think people are missing something here. Although the professions in GW2 are not 100% melee or ranged, there is an assumption based on the name and weapons how a class will play out. Rangers look to be the typical mmo pet class with bows and pets…looks like ranged play to me. Engineers can only equip ranged weapons and kits…but the ranged weapon is more easily understood when reading about the class, hence engineers look like a ranged class.
I would be willing to bet 90% of the “engineers suck” arguments come from people who rolled the class to be played range not melee. I have yet to see a single engineer “ranged” build that excels. All the ones people play or link are melee specs. Any ranged spec engineers had has been nerfed.
I think this is where a lot of people say the class sucks…because as a ranged 1v1 class, they do and always have. Yet, the new to the game assumption is that the class is ranged. So people get them to 80, think all the sucking has to do with gear, grind or buy a set of exotics and still suck as a ranged class.
IMO that is the very definition of broken. The class can not be played as advertised.
The only time my engineer has proven to be worthy was the other day. I was in wv3 with my buddy, we were in skype. He always looks out for me when I cant look out for myself. He was on his ranger I think, or guardian…anyway.
There was a mad fight…the enemies forces were growing and ours were diminishing greatly. We were not far from our keep and he was yelling at me, run lil buddy (my character is a small asura, his is a big butt norn). So we were running and a thief decides to pop out on me and is killing me faster than you can type a “period”.
I was running like a mad asura, for the keep…300 reds behind me, I dropped a frost grenade on the thief who was keeping up with me and clink clink…clink is all I heard..all my nades were on CD, so I just started throwing the #1. nades behind me (I am still nade build and geared)..I mean they were right at me feet. My targeting reticle’s edge was on my feet. I did not look back and just kept running….I was getting away..how I did not know.
My buddy was laughing is butt off hysterically and could not catch his breath…he was way in front of me cause he was never attacked or slowed. He said it was the funniest thing seeing my lil guy running for his life and tossing grenades behind me like a crazy person with the enemy actually turning back because I was doing reasonable damage…esp to the thief.
From this I gathered a couple things.
Engineers need 50" monitors with a 10000 yard camera zoom so we can run away and toss grenades behind us and actually see what is not only in front of us, but behind. Its about the only way you can keep aware of the situation. This really goes for any ranged class who is always strafing, never seeing what is in front of them…but because engineers do little damage and take little damage you really cant afford to engage in melee combat…
Anyway…I love my engineer, but I hate him. I support this thread. I have since leveled a mesmer to 80, a rifle warrior (lol talk about real ranged burst with a gun…and its a warrior), my cheap thief is 51, my ele is 72, necro 50.
I have found the only use for my engineer in the game is Wv3 keep patrol….that is I am good at keeping the enemy off the walls while we work the gate…outside of that he is about the biggest “meh” class in game.
And then arena net comes along and nerfs grenades… /facepalm
I leveled my Asura engineer to 80. Spent 45 gold that I got from a flaming shield skin sale on exotics.
Then he took an arrow to the knee.
He is currently a cheerleader…err, bench warming cheerleader.
(edited by Raideen.5973)
I leveled an engineer first to 80 at game launch (well head start). I was so unimpressed with the engineer with the rifle I rolled a warrior.
Engineer is full exotics glass cannon build with literally nothing I can do to increase power, crit and crit damage any more, not with spec not with gear.
Warrior is exotic gear, green rings, amulet, earrings.
My warrior has crit in wv3 for 16k, followed with a 2k,3k,4.5k,6k
Engineer just cant touch that damage. The warrior does it all at 1200 yards and has more base line health and more armor. The engineer has to get into close quarters to do the burst and has less basline health and armor.
Bottom line is simple. Engineer is good for pushing people back on walls…warrior is good at pushing people back in the field.
Also, warrior has piercing shots…when you see 13k, 14k, 15k, 12k, 11k all lined up, one kill shot because it pierces through all targets in its line of sight, when that happens you will know engineers are gimped.
Ranged rifle spec is warrior hands down.
Brutal shot, volley > anything the engineer can do
Dont even get me started about switching weapons…be it a long bow or two axes…warrior just has a lot more flavor.
I dunna man, I love my engineer…I love his name, is looks..but when it comes to killing people rifle spec its a joke…heck pve its a joke, leveling bombs was a lot more safe and faster than rifle spec. On the warrior I just lolled while leveling, soooo easy in comparison to my mesmer or engineer.
(edited by Raideen.5973)
Basically….
Glass cannon/low hp – you will get 1-shot by thieves. There is no counter. Stick to the back field and hope your allies manage to kill the noob thief.
Tanky – you survive the initial burst. Thief goes into ultra noob CnD spam mode. If you aren’t in a group, you will die. There is no counter.
The only defense is if you have a skill to block the CnD. Only a select few classes have an actual BLOCK ability though (which is on a CD unlike CnD -.-) Dodging DOES NOT WORK. You have 2 dodges, 2 seconds of blocking CnD. Every stealth skill has > 5s stealth thanks to culling.
There is no counter play to thief stealth. It is a broken mechanic and needs a re-work.
Thief is the noobtube of this game. Sadly I doubt they will fix this class because, well… noobtube encourages noobs to play more -.-
My mesmer is in exotics. Full vitality and toughness build and gear, 28k health. I run him as a rez support spec. I have been two shot by thieves…when I say two shot I mean the span of about 1.5 seconds from my first health dip to dead…then they stealth and finish you off.
They are broken.

No offense meant but the truth is thief is just the focal target, and there is always a focal target, so if it was not thieves it would be the next item on the QQ train. If you enjoy the game you figure out a way around the parts that bother you, or you do not enjoy it enough to be bothered and just leave. The ‘reason’ you are leaving has nothing to do with what you are saying, because there will always be that ‘thing’ for those that look for it.
A million times this. I get killed by stealthed thieves now and then, guess what, I get killed by falling to my death more often cause I’m stupid. Should I quit because chatting and running is causing me repair bills?
Dropping to your death does not incur a repair bill. EVEN if you have been in combat with another player. I constantly kill myself with cliffs in pvp just to avoid repair bills.
Getting 1 shot by a thief who you cant even see coming does…its broken.
Anet gives you EVERY skill you need to kill a Thief. They give you heals, they give you stun breakers, they give you invincible rolls and they give you stuns, immunities, and immobilizes. Your troubles start when you stand there letting the Thief control the fight. You have 3 seconds where that Thief can’t stealth, he can’t do anything but take damage from you. If they’re glass cannon, they will DIE in those 3 seconds IF you take your head from out of your azz and lock them down.
Hm, if I’m not aiming for glass cannon, I need to exchange some damage for survivability. So the 3 seconds are NOT enough to kill the thief. Yeah, right. In the 3 seconds where he can’t stealth, he still has dodge rolls and other skills to survive. And if the fight gets critical for the thief, he just stealths and runs away.
“Ooooh, but we need stealting. We need to get out of fights to survive.” Ever considered that it’s the same for other classes? Take an engineer, or a ranger. If it gets critical, they too want to get out of combat, but they can’t. Where is the problem if revealed gets 1 or 2 more seconds so that you actually have to face off the enemy you started fighting with? The main problem is: if any class goes glass cannon, it’s trading survivability for power. Except….thieves. Can escape whenever they want to. 1 or 2 seconds on revealed…that’s not THAT harsh. You can manage that. Like many thief players are always putting off our concerns: l2p.
Here’s the trick of it. Thieves run out of defensive options that are not stealth faster the other classes, they’re in the same HP tier as Ele and Guardian, but they don’t have all the defensive boons they have, they can dodge 2-3 times, maybe shadowstep once if they take it and then they’re done, maybe roll for initiative and retreat if they take it, then they’re done, completely out of defenses, and unable to run from those pursuing them and will go down if someone so much as sneezes in their general direction.
And yet players who play thieves have the confidence to rush into a mob stealthed, 1 shot someone and flee. Why? Because they know through many encounters that they CAN and WILL get away. Its a joke man…and anyone who defends thieves ATM just likes easy mode.
With a full tough/vit build and exotic tough/vit armor, I should not get 2 shot….and it happens nightly. 28k health gone and I never even see them.
Its BROKEN…and I encourage everyone who plays this game and who is sick of thieves in wvwvw to stop playing… Arena Net needs to remove the class or fix it!
One of my favorite is when male Asura discover a poi.
“Look what I’ve found.”
First of all, have a world wide chat channel when in any major city, like wow does.
Player housing.
Guild housing.
Maybe bads should stop freaking out every time an enemy isn’t constantly visible. As a thief, necro and warrior user, I typically have more trouble with the more visible targets, because they don’t die in 2 seconds when I predict their movement. And thief buffs? You mean, buffs to pistol physical damage? That still remains horrible BTW.
I mean.. It’s like asking the other side at a full-blown shootout in Sarajevo to ‘pretty please show yourselves so we can shoot at you’.
You also received a mobility buff, which you did not need.
Leave my Engi alone ;_; She didn’t hurt anyone yet. Something about being a gunslinger is attractive. I still get killed easily by every other class. (yeahyeah Sin L2P noob) =)
And from the looks of things, never will.
