In the EU all servers are almost completely EU except for Desolation. Desolation has huge international presence and is the only ‘international’ server in Europe right now.
Is this a joke thread? Is the person who started this just trying to make Desolation look bad or something?
Desolation are the only server in Europe to have NA players. Every European server needs NA players for things to be balanced and fair again, except for Desolation.
Isn’t there anyone on Desolation left that cares about having fun and balanced WvW instead of just winning by a huge amount thanks to an unfair advantage?
Great job Vizunah, proving dedication can overcome pure numbers of Desolation and never giving up against overwhelming odds.
Europe is proud of you
One server doesn’t care about fun, only about winning, so they begged US guilds to come over so they would never have fair competition again. Because 1 server did this now 26 others have to ‘adapt’.
Vizunah, Arborstone and Elona Reach deserve tier 1. Desolation would be swapping between tier 3 and 4 right now if they were one time zone like every other European server.
It’s Anet fault for making a bad system that is ruled by transfers and time zone issues but Desolation are the real ones to blame. They have free will, they didn’t have to try to ruin wvw for Europe just because they couldn’t stand loosing.
There is something wrong here:
http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/6167/gw411.jpg
This is not a one time occurrence. Think it might be to do with might stacks but clearly something is not working quite as intended :P
Had great action so far, here’s to hoping it will continue throughout the week.
I don’t like pointing the finger like this, but I don’t understand how this can happen in any other way.
We’re getting players getting into towers that still have their doors and walls up. “Mesmers” you all say, but this is happening on towers we’ve somehow kept for hours, and towers have no hidey holes like a garrison or a keep would have. I’ve seen this happen in sunnyhill (They just trash all of the defensive stuff) and I’ve heard other players saying it’s not the only time.
If there is some hack or exploit going on here, then suddenly the arguments against nightcappers becomes one against exploiters, and it would explain why Desolation seem to always have all three orbs.
You should be very cautious with accusations like that.
We report exploiters straight away as soon as we see them. I actually saw a Deso player exploit a few days back. He was inside a keep we were taking before we had the gates down. It didn’t even make a difference, because there was no opposition and we took it (breaking both gates down) anyway, but we still reported the player straight away.
If you see such things please try to get screenshots or even better videos of the players, so we can try to find out who they are and report them properly.
Concerning the orbs we have them because they haven’t been taken of us. I’m not sure if we even lost an orb at any point (because I sadly have to work), but I’m pretty sure there would be screenshots and videos if any orb was hacked in the last couple of days… (we will always take any orb at night anyways because we do not have opposition then… thats just how the game works right now)
- Bloodsteel
You mean the two RUIN people inside Garrison on Far Shiverpeaks boderlands 30mins ago. They made a huge difference, they cleared all of our defensive siege equipment and even though we killed them they kept coming back. We are also almost certain they did the same at sunnyhill and cragtop because whenever we came back we found the siege equipment we had put there had been destroyed(this was going on inside Garrison the whole time you were attacking sunnyhill). This was going on the whole morning and the only reason you found no defence at that keep when you got there as people were so annoyed by the amount of exploiting being done they didn’t even try to defend it. So yes actually, it made a HUGE difference.
Its nice you say you reported them, i just hope it is actually true.

Lets try to balance European WvW timezones problems - Project 24/7 Europe
in WvW
Posted by: Ral.5326
So as is well known, recently Desolation were joined by Ruin, a 1000+ member NA guild. Before this, European servers were almost universally occupied by European guilds and had great action in European times. Winners of the match ups were often decided by who stayed up longer at night and this made scores look a bit unbalanced but the action during these times was still really good and most were very happy and didn’t mind loosing because there was still great wvw action at all times of day(even if the scores didn’t reflect it). The only real problem is sometime people gave up when loosing which negatively affected wvw quality, particularly later in the week, but this may always be a problem.
Things have changed now that NA guilds have moved to one European server and now the action in that servers match up is very boring as there is a huge population difference throughout the night and day time. On the plus side we now have one Euro server with 24/7 coverage. The problem is that leaves 26 other servers who still don’t have 24/7 coverage as they have only European players.
The majority of people on this forum think transfers to other time zones is a good thing and that the solution to this problem is to recruit other time zone guilds, so this should be a simple thing to do and will result in all Euro servers having 24/7 coverage and maybe even better action than before.
So here is a list of servers that need some NA love and estimates as to how many players need to transfer for numbers to be fair again.
English speaking:
Aurora Glade – 1000
Blacktide – 1000
Desolation – 0
Far Shiverpeaks – 1000
Fissure of Woe – 1000
Gandara – 1000
Gunnar’s Hold – 1000
Piken Square – 1000
Ring of Fire – 1000
Ruins of Surmia – 1000
Seafarer’s Rest – 1000
Underworld – 1000
Vabbi – 1000
Whiteside Ridge – 1000
French:
Arborstone – 800 (need someone from Arborstone to confirm the amount of Canadian guilds but ill use an estimate of 200 Canadian players for now until i am better informed)
Augury Rock – 1000
Fort Ranik – 1000
Jade Sea – 1000
Vizunah Square – 1000
German:
Abaddon’s Mouth – 1000
Drakkar Lake – 1000
Dzagonur – 1000
Elona Reach – 1000
Kodash – 1000
Miller’s Sound – 1000
Riverside – 1000
Spanish
Baruch Bay – 1000 (there are rumours of Latin American guilds here but need someone from Baruch Bay to confirm if they are true. Will assume they are false for now)
So as you can see we only need another 25,800 players to transfer over to European servers to get back to the balance we had before and things should be even better as there will be higher numbers for the Europeans who don’t sleep. Also a great opportunity for Americans to learn German and French!
Please try to stay on topic and not flame any servers or guilds here, this is about how we as a community can work together to get things back to the quality of wvw we had before, not blaming anyone.
He did not quote the wrong person.
Then he miss read what i said. I said there is very few people online at 4.30am on a working day so you probably won’t find much wvw going on. Same for spvp, if you go to heart of the mists you will be in queue for matches for ever. Turning the servers on or off would not change that.
Dear Shiver-Kodashi players,
Having just logged into WvW I was dismayed to discover that my faction already has every single control point. Frankly this level of absolute failure is unacceptable. Some of us actually join WvW not to dance with Quaggans but for PvP. In future please ensure that you do not lose so hard.
Much Appreciated,
Kong
If you are expecting pvp at 4.30am on a working day then you may be playing in the wrong time zone.
Personally i think Far Shiver’s need to stop complaining about night capping, We had that problem we solved it, That simple.
Desolations problem was that you weren’t able to compete against other servers with equal numbers and you didn’t solve that problem, you just gave up trying.
Not to mention i heard you have a night cap guild and they turned out to be weak as RUIN swept them a side.
Err, i think you are confusing players with npcs. Still i’m sure taking a keep vs the mighty npcs was a great victory for them.
There is only one European server with 24/7 coverage and its Desolation. Vizunah and Elona Reach have a lot more at night than Far Shiverpeaks but far less than Desolation.
Desolation has easily enough players in the morning to hold what they have. In the morning things are equal and in terms of timezone and numbers but the Desolation players have no organisation or leadership and give up. I guess it easier to come up with excuses than actually try.
Never seen a server with a more defeatist attitude than Desolation. You are the probably the most populated server in Europe and have by far the largest time zone coverage. What you lack is organisation outside of Iron and Ruin, but most of all what you lack is spirit. Soon you will be up against far more people at night and morning than FS due to having two time zones. We will see then whether you lack loyalty as well as spirit.
Yeah its a bit unfair we have to carry these useless npc’s through dungeons when they refuse to follow tactics. It’s only really this fight that is a problem though. We tried to kill the npc before the fight but he will respawn at the start so its best to just accept it and kill lupicus with the buff, he should only get one or two stacks so its still a pretty easy fight, just a bit longer. Then again if there is one path in this game that does not need to be made longer by dumb npcs its arah path 4.
Hey Desolation i made you some slogans to help with your recruitment efforts.
“Come to Desolation… because playing against one time-zone with two isn’t enough, we need three!”
“Come to Desolation…. because who needs skill when you can just get more time-zones?”
Looking forward to facing you in the tier 2 match this week.
The problem is that raiders have, so far, failed to say why this game needs raids, when it’s explicitely designed to not have them as a major selling point.
Reasons why:
- It is fun for many people. Fun is good.
- It offers a place for challenging PvE content in a game that lacks it so far.
- It offers guilds or larger groups an activity to do together.
- It offers a long term goal for players to work towards, adding a lot of longevity to the game.
- It increases the server’s sense of community as more people have a chance to get to know each other and makes the game feel a lot more social.
By the way i noticed you failed to give one reason why not in your post.
Thanks. This is why there will never be raids. Raiders generally demand items that are superior to non-raider items.
Unfortunately, GW2 will not have better stats if you do X content. The gear plateau will always remain, and you will always get max stats outside of raids. This is why raids will never work in GW2.
That’s not true. Many people do dungeons in GW2 and none do it for the stats, they do it for cosmetics or fun. Many people are interested in legendaries in GW2, which require ridiculous time investments and give no stat bonus, which kind of proves stats aren’t the only incentive to work towards something and invalidates this point.
See, raiders don’t actually like to raid. They just like to be better than other players even if they have less skill, simply because they can shedule their life around a game.
Proof: Every raiding game that allows people to complete raids with smaller groups for the same rewards has people immediately go for the small groups. See WoW: 25-man raids were dying once rewards became identical and Blizzard actually considered removing them outright due to it. If WoW had 5-man dungeons give all the best raid gear, nobody would do raids.
Raiders love raiding. That’s why they do it, that’s why they are willing to pay a subscription fee for year after year to a game in which they are bored of all non raid content. It has nothing to do with wanting to be than other better players, although it does often have to do with wanting to be better players themselves. And why would they care if they are better than these other players? What would that give them? These ‘other players’ don’t factor in to their enjoyment of raids at all.
As for the 25 man vs 10 man arguement, it is very simple. It is much easier to get 10 people together than 25. Why did so many people exploit dungeons in GW2? Because exploiting is fun? Of course not, its because its easier and many people take the easist option. Did all the people who exploited dungeons in GW2 have more fun than those who did them properly?
All you point seems to come down to is that you don’t want to raid and so don’t want anyone else to do either. It wouldn’t affect you at all, but others whould get more enjoyment from the game and for some reason you have a problem with that.
Can anyone please give me a rational answer why raids will be bad to the game?
There isn’t one. Many people are strongly against the idea of raids because they themselves do not want to do them and so they think no one should be able to. That is all it comes down to.
There is also no reason why raids would not work in this game. Agro won’t be a problem for the same reason its not in dungeons, bosses do nearly all damage through aoe red circles or attacks with obvious animations that you are intended to dodge or avoid.
The challenge would come from the mechanics of the boss and organisation of the players. Raid bosses that are about dps races and ability to tank/heal well were never that interesting anyway, it was the unique mechanics that made them so memorable.
I love GW2 and had a great time on my way to 80. The questing experience and combat mechanics are amazing but it feels end game is so lacking and empty because there are no long term goals to aim for outside of getting a legendary. Raids would add so much to the game and would not mean the game will be all about gear. I just hope arenanet realises just how many people want them.
I agree with what the op said. I’ve never seen an mmo with less sever community and its not that the server community is bad, it literally is non existent outside of wvw. There aren’t even server specific forums. Everything about the game feels so unsocial, which is a shame as the social aspect is a huge part of mmos for a lot of people.
Also i see a lot of people not understanding what server community is in this thread and saying things like ‘join a social guild’. Joining a guild can make you friends and can make you a part of their community, but it won’t suddenly create a community beyond that of the server as a whole.
It makes sense for Oceanic and Asian guilds to play on NA servers as they don’t have there own but for NA guilds to move to European servers is just a way for them to take the easy way out and will further unbalance populations of European servers, which already have far worse problems with night capping than NA do.
If NA guilds want to avoid queues and want a challenge they should move to lower population NA serves, not EU.
Far Shiverpeaks is where? Second? Instead of requesting help there, how about guilds looking to transfer, look to transfer to servers nearer the bottom of the rankings to help boost them.; rather than making the successful, crowded, servers more crowded.
In an ideal world, guilds fed up of long queue times would move to servers in the middle/lower half of the table. Of course, this is not an ideal world. No one wants to move to a low league server.
Far Shiverpeaks only has queues for Eternal and during weekends. It’s rare for us to have any queues for Boderlands during the week and when they do its only a few minuets long, so i wouldn’t say we are a crowded server.
No, it’s not a completely recoverable deficit. What you are seeing is a battle that took place during the weekend; where more players were willing to stay up and combat the night domination. It is now monday night, and last night VS gained over 20k points. Tomorrow, they will be ahead another 20-30k points, and it will go from there. The weekend is the ONLY time we can hold a candle score wise, and that time has passed.
I was addressing the OP’s screenshot. In that screenshot, both the losing servers have completely recoverable deficits. The only reason they wouldn’t be recoverable is defeatist attitudes of the players on those two servers.
Quitters never win.
Yeah its clear the loosing side has quit and is not trying, that’s why they are dominating the current score.
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
Looks like a perfectly balanced and exciting game that is going on. The third place team is making a comeback and the second ranked team is also catching up on the leader.
If only, at night Vizunah will have everything, as happens everynight. Elona put up a great fight this weekend and had a big lead before last night but it wont matter as pretty soon as Vizunah will be miles ahead.
(edited by Ral.5326)
The picture shows the score when everyone has equal numbers. At night time however Far Shiverpeaks has around 10-15 players across the whole map and Vizunah will take everything and have it fully upgraded by morning.
And lol at the person who says about double team.
Another thing they will, thankfully, not do. To limit it to 5man is a conscious design decision that is a main reason why many people – if not the majority – bought this game.
That it is not a raiding game and has no raiding content is a selling point, guys. Sorry for that, but that’s the way it is.
This game won’t become your WoW killer. This is not the point of it. Wanna raid? Go back there. It’s designed around it. GW2 thankfully is not and never will be, which makes it a better game.
It fits in perfectly with the design. We have small groups in the form of dungeons and large group world events so it makes perfect sense to make a middle ground, medium group sized content. Also GW1 had 12 man dungeons, so why is GW2 not allowed to have more than 5 man?
What this comes down to is you not liking a type of content and then saying it should not be in the game because you don’t want to do it. Most players would love for it to be added and would get a lot of fun from it but as long as you don’t want to do something, others should not be allowed to. Your enjoyment of the game wouldn’t change at all if it was added, but many’s would increase. It saddens me to see this kind of comment, different people enjoy different things and i’ll never understand why some people cannot accept that.
We can only dream, I know most players would love 10 man dungeons that were a real challenging, it would add so much to the game.
It’s okay 2 out of the 8 are still alive so the boss hasn’t reset so just run back…
Really? That’s a terrible reason as to why there should not be larger instances in the game. Just make it so you cannot run back. Lock the door when the fight starts or make the boss reset when people re-enter.
Yeah its a bit on the long side. Also that is not the last boss.
In Sorrows Embrace path 1 the inquest grenadiers have insane amounts of health and, seeing as they respawn instantly until the second boss, is it a bit annoying and very time consuming to kill them.
I can’t help but wonder if someone at areannet accidentally added an extra digit to their total health as i am pretty sure that they have more health then most purple tier bosses which is strange for silver mobs that respawn instantly.
Progression and fun are the same thing for a large amount of the player base.
And for those who don’t think progression is important in games, imagine if every time you log in you had to start a new character because your old one was not saved for you. Would the game be as fun for you? If not then why should you only get progression at the start of the game and not the end?
Swiftness bug when using "Retreat!" and Symbol of Swiftness together?
in Guardian
Posted by: Ral.5326
This is in the known guardian bug compilation at the top of this forum.
I never used this skill because I didn’t know it lasted 10 seconds in the first place. This is a problem with tooltips. In game it reads “Wrathful Spirit – Aegis gives retaliation when it ends.”
Not very descriptive at all. This is a problem with alot of the skills in this game.
Anyway, I still won’t be using it after this nerf. There are more useful traits for this slot.
Same. I thought it was a weak trait before but didn’t realise it lasted so long.
Now it is a completely useless trait in one of the better trait lines. Can’t imagine it being used at all.
From what I understand, Guardians were doing quite some “passive” damage with Retaliation in PvP. And this was probably the most “passive” source of Retaliation.
That being said, it does seem to be a big jump. If this was beta, I’d say they did so they can bring it up a bit later, but on live servers, I’m not so sure about that.
If you want to its pretty easy to keep retaliation up all the time with greatsword combo, signet and stand you ground(all of which are also aoe, unlike the trait). The change to this trait won’t change much.
(edited by Ral.5326)
I guess either no ones knows or those that do are keeping quite about it.
I thought it would be a specific mystic forge recipe but most of the possible recipes have been tested by now and gave something else.
Anyone with any idea on what the recipe could be?
As people have said:
1.) Scale the total score per tick to the size of total players of the server with the least amount, so one server can not amass a huge lead when they are against very few opposition.
2.) Change outnumbered buff so people have more incentive to play during those times. No repair cost would be a very good addition as spawn camping peoples starter areas when one side is outnumbered is a lot less frustrating when you don’t have to pay repairs.
People can still play whenever they want to contribute but wvw will be a lot closer and more enjoyable for all.
With every patch Anet brings more nerfs to dungeons and it is very clear that explorable dungeons are not meant to be challenging but instead meant to be easy content for all levels of skill to be able to complete. That is fine. I’m not going to say there should not be content available for all people to be able to complete. If some people find dungeons with this level of difficulty fun then i’m happy for them.
Personally however, the content that i find fun is content that challenges me and makes me think. I want to change skills before fights and be forced to stop dpsing for once and switch to support but those things are completely unnecessary. If you can dodge you’ll be okay and can treat almost every fight the same as any random mob you would find when leveling.
Other games include easy dungeon content but also hard modes of dungeons or different tiers of dungeons, as well as raid content that is made to be hard. So i am left wondering, are explorable modes the hardest content we will ever get or is challenging PVE content coming in the future?
Same thing happened to two people in our group, here is a screenshot

Hi Everyone,
All is fair in love and war – and as love, WvW is a battlefield.
There are exploits, I’ll give you that – but then there is coordinated effort to ensure your world or your team uses each and every resource they have to their advantage.War is not fair, war is not pretty, war gets out the worst in us – and the best – and even if we have excluded open world pvp from the rest of the game, this is exactly what happens on the WvW maps: It is the ‘playground’ for strategists and great tacticians, it is the place for coordinated efforts and mean ideas in the middle of the night.
As nice as i’m sure that sounds, the truth is WvW is not war it’s a game and what matters is whether it is fun. At the moment the score system takes away a huge amount of the enjoyment as close games don’t exists and the actions of 90% of players are meaningless.
Its funny how you mention its a place for strategists, great tacticians and coordinated efforts because none of those things matter in the grand scheme of things. The only thing that matters is the numbers you have at night and if you don’t see that you don’t understand what’s happening in game.
Having a similar problem with dungeons today.
I have done 5 different paths today in 3 different dungeons and got and got 60 twice, 45 twice and 30 once when i should have got 60 every time.
4 other members of the group got 60 every time but one member got 15 less than me each time.
At the moment it seems some people just don’t get the full reward and there is no reason why. Hopefully this gets fixed soon as it is very unfair to the few who get less tokens.
The forums are full of screenshots/complaints of how uneven these match ups are and it always seems that whatever server is first is ahead by a huge lead already. So i’m curious, are there any matches going on in which first and second place is close?
This topic has been discussed to death already. Guess what, persistent world pvp is persistent. It is a necessity to have 24/7 coverage to compete in NA wvw and it appears the same is true for European servers. If you can’t manage that you will not, and do not deserve to, move to the top.
Except that’s not true at all. There are many people from different times zones on NA servers(Oceanic players/ Asian players/ European players) but on EU servers every single player is in more or less the same time zone. During night time, on every server except Vizunah, borderlands are completely empty.
I don’t think anyone cares who the best wvw server is on Europe. For whatever reason(if they say its dedicated players and not people from different time zones i believe them) Vizunah dominates at night and it makes wvw really boring when the match is over before it starts for 99.99% of the servers population. I think everyone from Far Shiverpeaks, Desolation and Riverside would love a match between each other without Vizunah as it would be so much more enjoyable, but it will never happen.
