Thanks, that is what I figured.
I wish developers took the traditional MMO like EQ, DAoC, WoW… ect….. and then added all these new technologies to it.
Dynamic quests are great and the economy in GW2 is very fun. You can farm in-game currency and trade it for cash shop currency, that is amazing. I just feel it falls flat on it’s face with the item system. Wayyyy to simple for an RPG for me.
I quit a while back because I am not a PvP player. I only PvE and it seemed to be lacking. Sure, there are a few dungeons, dynamic quests, ect…. I think the biggest let-down for me was the lack of items. They were all the same…. Whether I found a rare armor or a legendary armor, they both had the same stats.
I just really don’t like the item system. I also don’t like that at level 80, it feels like there is nothing to work toward.
Games like Everquest, DAoC, The Realm, WoW, Aion, Everquest 2, lit goes on….. All the traditional MMORPG’s had a ton of loot with stats end game. If I worked toward a very rare sword, it was worth it because it was powerful. In Guild Wars 2, there really isn’t anything great to work towards. It’s all cosmetic.
So as a long time MMORPG player and PvE’er, I just feel like it’s lacking.
Have they changed any of this? Did they add items to work toward that are powerful or is it the same cosmetic loot grind?
This is bad…. I always a MMORPG to play.
I got every class to level 20… Deleted 3 of them just to try the others and sadly I really can’t get into any of them. The game system is sweet, I love how it’s sort of like a sandbox and you can do whatever you want, but there are a few things that are major gamebreakers for me.
1.) Classes…. Like I said, I can’t get into any of them… 5 skills and 5 utilities are not that fun to me.
2.) Loot…. Very bland loot…. I kind of choose a stat and go with it… Or mix and match… I searched for level 80 gear, loot has more stats but still more of the same. The loot is very boring and not meaningful.
3.) Level scaling…. You decrease in level in areas… It makes me take more damage and if I want to AoE 5 monsters in a lower area, I can’t because it decreases my level. And when you need a TON of crafting material to level, it’s frustrating.
4.) WvW wasn’t interesting at all… You get spammed by 15 players and there is nothing you can do. And when there is an actual objective, we literally auto-attack a door for 15 minutes+…
5.) Battlegrounds, never liked WoW BG’s and this is the same thing.
Overall, GW2 has a great system in place, the auction house from your inventory was a huge plus for me…. But there are too many turn offs for me to actually stay with it. The plus side is that it’s free and I can’t come back when it’s updated a bit. Maybe it will change….
I agree, loot is underwhelming… Stats are kinda boring… There is no flavor or randomness to the loot. I know this isn’t Diablo, but cmon.
You literally choose between one or two sets of gear end game.
Add some flavor stats to gear. Like chance on hit or attack speed or something.
When my level gets reduced, I do feel more powerful… but I would like to know what stats and what % of those stats gets carried over to the lower level…?

What crafting skill is the one listed as least used? They are listed by symbol… Dunno how to figure out what symbol means what….
Population on the chart posted on the blog can’t be right…
On my server all I see are WARRIORS, THIEVES, and RANGERS…..
I do see other classes but the NOTICEABLE majority are these 3 classes.
Mesmer is very weak…. Necromancer is an acquired taste…. Guardian is boring….Elementalist is too squishy….. Engineer is confusing…..
Warrior/Thief/Ranger are literally the 3 easiest classes to play AND they are quite strong. Buff the other classes…
Here is why: (Opinion)
Passive: 25% movement speed
There are no mounts so everyone wants quick travel.
I see like 80% thieves…. AT least on my server. Its crazy…
hmmm, must be super rare because i have a lot of characters and i have never found one, just got a few from story quests.
Can you find the chest keys as drops or cash shop only?
I’m really used to a beastmaster hunter in WoW. And I find the ranger here different, obviously and it’s not a bad thing but I have a few questions.
1.) At later levels, does your pet have more survivability and damage? At early levels 1-20, I feel my pet dies a lot against 2 monsters or more and he attacks so slow.
2.) Do my stats effect my pets power? Like toughness, power, ect….?
3.) Is ranger just a ranged class that just so happens to have a pet? Currently it feels that way because my pet dies a lot and seems to be there for looks. /shrug
Farming for a legendary SKIN is probably the worst idea I ever heard in any game. This game is literally a mouth watering adventure for casual gamers, for sure.
But for players who come from games like Everquest, WoW, DAoC, The Realm, AC, UO…. Where there were powerful items with powerful stats to make your character powerful… This game is hard to get into. I find myself unimpressed by the entire item system.
I like the skill system…. But I want to make my character powerful if I find a rare item. Except there are no rare items with powerful stats.
Welcome to reality. GW2 @ level 80 is boring…
Why do I want to headache through a dungeon only to get gear that isn’t even that interesting?
End game item:
+300 stat
+300 stat
+300 stat
/yawn
I think arena net was right about one thing…. It’s about the JOURNEY… The journey 1-80 was fun… Then arena net misses the big picture… End game is level 80 content and cool items and stuff that you can work on to make your character change in power noticeably…
1-80 B+ very fun….
@80 C- Nothing to do… You banked on thinking everyone or the majority would like achievements, exploration, and PvP…
Why explore when there is no gear to find rarely?
Why achieve when you receive nothing?
PvP you can get gear from, so that is something to work for.
I guess the reality check would be that GEAR is a huge part of RPG’s…. People like to be powerful and work to be powerful.
Maybe I’m just spoiled having played MMO’s for 14 years… Who knows, right?
World of Warcraft isn’t the only game with fast movement speed.
Everquest 2 has very fast mounts AND flying mounts.
Diablo 2, introduced a patch to increase base movement speed at one point because they realized players didn’t like moving slow. (Common sense)
GW2, offers speed boons in town… Why? Because towns are so large and it’s convienient. I’m just asking we get more of that convienience in the overall game not just the city. A mount system, an out of combat movement system of some sort that everyone can get…. Maybe sell mounts for gems… Make some money. Why not?
Movement speed is a key element to RPG’s…. Diablo 3 is an example… Base character speed is soooo slow…
GW2, same logic applies…. All characters feel sluggish unless you have a speed boon OR you are a thief/hunter…. Hunter gets 10% passive and thief get 25% passive…. IT’s TOO good…
I don’t even like my thief, but since he moves so fast, I can grind so much faster and it’s more relaxing. My mesmer, is soooooo slow not only in combat, but movement compared to my thief.
What class are you to get 33% movement speed? Thief?
Are there ways outside of skills and cash shop potions to get movement speed?
I have a 19 thief and a 15 mesmer…. I like both but I can’t get away from my thief just because of the 25% movement speed passive. Why can’t all classes have a travel skill?
Just make them not work in combat… That is why MMO’s offer mounts, faster movement. I understand there is instant travel, which is nice… But I am addicted to moving at 25% speed and grinding monsters.
That sword skill will be fixed obviously. I know what you are talking about, it’s obviously a problem.
This game is all over the place in terms of balance…. No tanks or healers but there is a healing stat… Then you go into a dungeon and it’s crazy… or you do an elite event with a boss and die in 2 – hits and pray there are players around…. What were you thinking?
Another issue on class balance is weapon swapping. Some classes can swap weapons, spam all the skills for the weapon, switch back and do sort of a skill spam rotation.
Thief on the other hand, can’t do this because skills require initiative. The you nerf our top damage skill… There was a areason it did a lot of damage, because after we were done “spamming” that skill, we had nothing else.
Mesmer, I can use staff/greatsword and do a sick damaging rotation that can pretty much solo any monster.
Ranger is the same thing…. I can equip some crazy weapon combos and do super quick burst damage that TRUMPS thieves.
Keep in mind thieves have to be in melee range unless they use shortbow/pistol…..
This game needs to focus all of its attention on class balance…
Mesmer illusions need to be global not for just your current target. It’s very annoying and they feel useless. Also, there health is ultra low… Needs to be buffed big time.
I want to not craft and just grind monsters, sell on market, and PvP…
Is it possible to get all the items I would get crafting this way or am I missing bind on account items and stuff like that?
Ohhhh I see, if that is the case it worked. Thanks
I used a food on my thief that granted 10 experience per kill and its not applying. Tried many different monsters and checked the actal XP number gain AND the combat log. Seems to not work…
What am I doing wrong?
so does this passive work in combat or not?
When you engage combat, doesn’t it reduce your movement speed. Is it a set amount or does a skill like this increase your “combat movement” speed? Or do we all run the same speed while in combat?
I’m currently level 17 and coin drops from monsters are about 5-12c depending on the level.
Items sell for a few copper… (Junk items)
My questions:
1.) How much coin do monsters drop at level 30? 40? 50? 60? 70? 80? Roughly…
2.) Same question as #1 but with junk items you sell to vender.
This will help me a lot, thanks.
I just think they need to re-look at class balance. All the classes are unique and can work, but I feel only some of them are working as intended right now. Warrior is super strong but all the classes should be super strong. So leave the classes that are strong alone and buff all the others.
Ranger/Warrior seem fine…. Elementalist as well, squishy but massive damage.
The other classes, not so much.
Here is an example:
Mesmer, there “class attribute” reduces shatter recharge rate…. Most situations, monsters die so fast, you have time for 1 illusion. (Like when youy run around doing events with a group of players)….And if you are against an elite, your attack speed (sceptor), your recharge rate (staff), are too long to get illusions out there to do good damage. It’s like you spend 20-30 seconds getting 3 illusions to press a button to finally do damage. Other classes can just press 1 button and they do good damage without “charging up” for 20-30 seconds. It’s ultra annoying. I LOVE the mesmer, but there skills needs a lot of tuning.

From what I’ve seen so far…. The classes are very unique BUT there damage and mitigation ratio’s are not balanced.
For example:
A warrior can do the same or more damage than a thief. Both melee characters (Or ranged)….
A mesmer does far less damage than an elementalist and needs to “charge up” the illusions to do damage.
A hunter, owns a pet (who sucks but still), there ranged damage is equal or greater than a thief/warrior who must melee.
Then you factor armor… Light/medium/heavy…. It seems backwards….
1.) Mesmer has light armor, must attack to get illusions (who get 1 shot by the way)….
2.) Warrior has heavy armor, tons of buffs, regen, and very high damage/stuns….
3.) Ranger gets a pet plus they get ranged and do equal or more damage than a thief/warrior
4.) Thief gets leather armor, does less damage than a warrior, and gets stealth which lasts like 3 seconds and doesn’t really accomplish much in mass pvp.
Can’t deny that WvW is the majority of late game. So why not just roll a class that can spam AoE from a distance or have higher defense and do more damage…. Right now, Elementalists/Rangers/Warriors/Necromancers seem to be the most popular classes. Hide behind pets and attack at range or nuke from a distance or just have better defense, high dmg, and nuke…
Thief/Mesmer seem to need a buff of some sort.
1.) Mesmer with damage and faster illusions short cooldown of there detonation. (F1)
2.) Thief with survivability and/or damage. If I wear leather armor, I should deal more damage than a warrior. That’s the tradeoff. Stealth is only good for escaping death in PvE. Can’t escape PvP in 3 seconds.
I don’t have much experience with guardian/engineer so I can’t comment.
