Let me explain maths to you. Below 50% is below average, otherwise you’re above.
Got me there. Gold being the halfway point between crappy players and good players… guess you were beating the good players and losing to the crappy ones… wait… no… you were beating the crappy players and losing to the good ones… no wait… yeah I am clearly the moron here that needs “maths” explained to me.
Get to Legendary with the build and crow all you want. Even Platinum would at least show player skill or build meta worthiness. Gold just means the build has attained average-ness but doesn’t indicate exceptional player skill or a potential meta build. It is basically like saying the build works because you got third place over the guy that doesn’t really play much and the “special” cousin that keeps failing 3rd grade.
But your way of explaining maths is not rational. You thinking that 60% of all players are terrible or equivalent of mentally disabled cousins doesn’t prove kitten. Stop taking everything so seriously
Are you dumb? There’s no way to climb ranks if you’re below average, since a win to loss rate below 50% will keep you in bronze.
I hope not.
Let me explain maths to you. Below 50% is below average, otherwise you’re above.
Getting to Gold means you have beat mostly casual and crappy players. Basically Gold means you and your build can beat scrubs. Getting to the next two tiers has significantly better players and builds to get through. I am pretty sure on play skill alone a decent player could get Gold on a vanilla necro.
lol ty for your explanation and examples. I’d call myself a casual player aswell so I’m glad I’m much better than everyone else in my range
@Revolutionen: Grats for reaching Gold. Go Legendary and show them they’re all wrong
Thank you! ^^ It’s a very fun build even if I don’t reach higher divisions, so I’ll definitely stay P/D for a while. Hopefully I’ll meet these guys in a game so I can kitten them off even more lmao
Also thanks for the tips @messiah , I’ll switch to rending shade and see how that goes
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
i made it to gold 2 playing trapper for lols
Congrats! im amazed you can put your traps down repeatedly until gold rank “for lols” you should have made a comedy documentary about it!
I think the point is that a player can get to Gold with below average play so using that rank as proof of a build concept doesn’t really work.
Are you dumb? There’s no way to climb ranks if you’re below average, since a win to loss rate below 50% will keep you in bronze.
And I don’t care what the elite players use. This build works great for me so thought I’d share it, but apparently that’s called boasting
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
Lmao hilarious how mad some people can get. Was just saying that P/D actually works since i got a 60% win rate with this build. I’ll make another post when I get to legendary using only utility skills, cheers
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
I see people bashing P/D and condi thieves all the time but it definitely works. Paired with venoms you got good burst damage (although less than D/P Marauders) insane mobility and you’re almost impossible to kill since you can kite anything and evade a lot of damage. Here’s the build I’m using if anyone is interested:
Main burst is just Activate Venoms(best if there are also allies around you) -> Steal -> Shadow Strike -> Autoattack. You can cancel the shadow step by jumping while activating SS, but I don’t do this very often. Biggest weakness atm are other thieves ironically. Very good Guardian killer since you’ll activate their traps with steal and then blink away instantly, avoiding all the damage.
Obviously wouldn’t work since that’d be a way to pick your own team. People would just block bad players and win automatically. Also stop raging and PMing players that they’re bad. It won’t make anything better
So people winning because they’re not being dragged down is bad how?
Bad players will also start spam-banning people to get in better teams. The best pvp player in GW2 would be the person who banned the most players. It just doesn’t make any sense.

I’d love to see a Guild Wars 3 game, however I don’t think we’re ready to wait until 2021 or later for a release, since that’s the time it would take to make a huge game like this.
I’d prefer more expansions. Also the number of people playing MMORPG’s is dwindling since the rise of mobile gaming (ugh).
Tbh I’m far more interested in a GW1 remake with the Gw2 engine :P
YES!!
I’ve taken a break from GW2 aswell but this makes me wanna start playing again! I’ll log on tonight and try the new stuff, and I’m VERY happy about the buff to dungeons, this means a lot to me!!
I also like simplistic, realistic armor. Although there’s nothing wrong with having flashy, skimpy or over the top armor as well. It’s just that GW2 brings it to a comical level where it breaks immersion to 200%, and not in a bad-kitten way. Here are a few examples:

This is what I like:

I’m probably gonna get hate for linking BDO armor but whatever
I dont understand this either. ANet has good intentions but they’re an extremely slow company. They very rarely release new content and things are often cancelled or left in a bad state for months or years. Warriors and thieves are worse than all other professions in all game types. Dungeons were destroyed for no reason and fractals have turned into swamp-swamp-swamp-profit. Legendary weapons have been cancelled to focus on other content (yet no content has been released since HoT except 1 raid). I don’t understand what they’re doing >.<
I’ve taken a break from GW2 to play a different new MMO for a while (maybe you can guess which) but what I find myself missing is the GW lore, varied armor, and pvp to some extent.
I used to love the graphics and the combat system, although now I feel there are better alternatives :/
Shortbows and many other weapons are indeed not really needed. The only reason there are 19(!!) weapons in the game is because they’re tied to skills. It’s no wonder Anet couldnt release a new set of legendaries when they’d have to make 19×5×2 = 190 models. Sure, most of them are just cropped/stretched versions of the same thing, but it’s still a lot of work.
Thief is indeed very difficult to play, although I still consider it viable. I’m halfway through diamond by playing soloQ thief in PvP, and I think the #1 reason we can still manage is our incredible mobility. With dash + 3 endurance bars + shadow step + SB 5 we can outrun anything. And unlike all the other classes we can cancel a fight at any time and run somewhere else, which makes us “hard to kill” even when we’re very squishy.
We still suck at 1v1 and (to some extent) team fights. I don’t even try to beat other classes anymore unless I’m with someone else, and this is our downside.
I’d die for a trait that gave 1s of stealth every 5 seconds continually. (Grand master trait obviously) this would be great for confusing enemies, but still not OP because of the short duration.
Medium is even worse tbh, we have a grand total of zero armor’s showing anything more than our arms. For some reason heavy armor is the only category with slightly revealing armor for males.
I didnt like the new maps, to me they’re all annoying labyrinths. I don’t play raids and I don’t like to run around the guild hall. The only thing that I like from HoT it is the revenant profession and the elite specializations. Not worth the money IMO.
more CC in pvp!! yes1!!!!111!
Ele staff is #1 dmg dealer in pve
as 0,0,0 doesn’t reflect anything, no differences in color
well 255,255,255 does reflect all.
I doubt your or my eyes would enjoy a 255,255,255 dye… It weould make your whole character whuter then the radiant armor pieces white…
also having a white light source helps.. chaos torch?
That’s not true, just as a completely black dye doesn’t make your character look like a void of darkness in sunlight (unless you have lowest graphics setting). You would still be able to see the armor textures and details. It would just be one step whiter.
Well. That’s propably cause if you step out of direct light, there is gonna be some shadow, so it gets darker.
Yes that is true but this is the problem. Armor dyed Shadow Abyss does not look gray in light areas, it stays black. Whereas celestial changes color because it’s not actually white, it’s just the sunshine that gives it that white glow when you stand in sunlight.
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
I love to try out different dyes for my armors, but one thing I’m missing is a completely white dye. Shadow Abyss is indeed 100% black, as seen here:
http://gw2.chillerlan.net/examples/gw2color.php
But if you check out Celestial dye it has the code 211,208,207 for metal and cloth, and even lower for leather materials. We’re still missing a pure white dye (255,255,255) that doesnt turn grayish once you step out of the light! I’d pay anything for this!!
Ok, well then that’s a relief. But at least you should know it’s not the venoms that are bad but it’s gotta be the player in this case.
Guess ive gotten flamed too much and thinks everybody has something against me lol, thats why i assumed it was me you were talking about.
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
Wow, I’m the guy you’re talking about. I’m used to getting flamed as a venom thief but this has got to take the prize.
I’ve been playing this build ever since conditions got buffed and it’s not bad at all. Just because its not on meta battle doesnt make it bad. Like other people have said we are both in league 3 and have the same MMR. I’ll post some screens to prove it, and you should probably start thinking about your own gameplay instead of others.
I’ve also seen images of ppl winning 10 games in a row. What happens if someone who “always wins” and someone who “always loses” ends up on the same team? will the servers crash? the world explode?
Imo you’re just having really bad luck and you’re facing more skilled people since everyone is in the same league atm, it’ll sort itself out in time and eventuelly you’ll get a 50% win rating
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
Well, I assume you’re playing ranked and not unranked arenas? The Main difference this season is that leagues have become more imortant, while MMR doesn’t matter as much.
Since the new season just started, this means that basically everyone is in league 1, so your matchmaking is much more random than it used to be. You’re probably just unlucky, and that’s why you’ve ended up facing premades or really skilled people. If you keep playing for a while it should sort itself out.
If you’ve had these problems for years I’m not sure what to tell you haha, maybe you should try unranked for a while and see how that goes?
i love the matchmaking atm, a lot better than it usually is for me. The only problem is that an even spead of classes doesnt seem to matter anymore. I keep seeing 3 thieves/3 necros/3 guards etc in the same team.
Oh how I miss the GW1 days when there was an entire kittening expansion released EVERY SIX MONTHS instead of these pointless bugfixes and tooltip changes
This is inaccurate. It took them a year to push out Factions. Only Nightfall met the 6 month deadline, post Factions. Even EotN came about 10 months after Nightfall.
Prophecies: April 28, 2005
Factions: April 28, 2006
Nightfall: October 27, 2006
EotN: August 31st, 2007
Well, these are still amazingly fast compared to the updates we are getting today. Lets compare it to this:
Work on GW2 started in 2007, it was published in 2012 and we got the first expansion Q4 2015. Something must have happened to either their economy or the development processes.
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
This is just tragic. It’s amazing how Anet can create a wall of text containing absolutely nothing.

Yea I don’t get why they put in “balance updates” when it’s just bug fixes and tooltip changes that no one cares about :s
Although the biggest disappointment was that they didnt even start the new season with the patch … It’s 19:30 in EU right now and they said to activate the new season today -.-
At least the new glider looks nice

My thief
First time I’m almost 100% satisfied with an outfit. And it matches the scientific weapons rly well. Only problem I have is that the boots look a bit grayish atm >.<
I’d sacrifice everything I have for those Aviator Sunglasses
Yes I want those soo bad!
Don’t want the bunny ears to come back though, since I already have those, wouldnt feel as special wearing them anymore <.<
I play thief aswell, and I’ve been seeing the same pattern. The reason is Anet’s communist vision of everyone having a 50% win rate. This philosophy seems to outweigh every other factor, and a team containing duplicate classes isnt as important. If you win more games than you lose, why not throw in 2 more thieves to make it an almost 100% chance of losing that game??
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
Yea I have no idea what they’re doing. PvP is a serious mess atm and you’re better off PvE’ing until they’ve “contemplated” enough and decides to press the button that starts a new season.
Agreed! I always end up in matches that are 3 thieves vs 3 necros or something similar.
Very interesting build! Although wouldn’t dagger training & panic strike be better for dps than trappers respite and deadly trapper?
Hello!
So before the AA buffs to thief I was aware that they were not wanted in most pve content (fractals/raids), is that still the case?
I’ve yet to equip my thief with the ascended gear and accessories that I want. If thief is still considered bad then I don’t want to invest in it. What are your opinions?
I honestly can’t see the philosophy behind forcing someone to lose just to get them down to a 50% win/loss rating. It’s a stupid mechanic. In my opinion, MMR should only exist in Unranked Arenas, and only consider these two factors in matchmaking:
- Profession
- PvP experience (Total number of games played)
In Ranked Arenas we now have something called leagues, and to combine these with an algorithm that deliberately makes you lose certain matches is beyond stupid. Making it easier for someone with a 40% win rating completely contradicts the purpose of leagues. Matchmaking in Ranked Arenas should only consider profession.
Anet have actually made me hate getting win-streaks, because I can only imagine how it makes my MMR skyrocket until i get paired up with ppl fighting off point and dying by the NPC’s. That algorithm will do anything to get me down to 50% again.
Am I the only one with this opinion?

Please do something about this.
that would be a great edition! and I dont think the ping’s having 4 different colors will create much visual clutter
I wish they’d scrap the algorith altogether and let good ppl win and bad ppl lose.
Venomshare is most definitely viable in PvP. I’ve played it ever since the condi buff and it works great. I’ve always had a 50%+ win rate in both ranked and unranked. The major great thing about this build is that you can deal dmg on the other side of the map while you’re not even there. Put spider+skale+ basilisk venom on your entire team at start of match and you have a great chance of winning the first team fight.
As you’ve said yourself there are a lot of stuff you can do. I personally started doing Fractals of the mists as soon as I got to lvl 80. It’s a cheaper and more fun way (although very RNG-based) to get ascended armor/weapons. Since you already have ascended jewelry, agony should be no problem for you with a few infusions. You could also try out PvP or as already suggested, do your personal story and then progress to HoT and get your elite specialization. Do whatever you find fun, since that’s the purpose of the game
(edited by Revolutionen.5693)
Thieves have about the same DPS as all the other classes but are incredibly squishy, so what’s the point in using one? Their mobility is the only thing they’ve got left, but it’s just not worth it when they die in 2 seconds.
