Not at all, BolkovonHarnfeldt. A-Net had good intentions, but horribly mishandled the rollout. they quickly fixed their mistake, and they should be recognized for that. Whether you spend the money is up to you, but I now feel that the price they’re asking is fair. I just paid it.
How do you know they had good intentions
It’s good for you that you think the price is fair, I don’t.
I don’t think the current deal is fair, because it transfers all the risk of the rollout from the company (who has to recuperate their investments they made beforehand) to the customer (who not only buys something unseen but also hands out free credit in the process. It’s your money, and I won’t try to convince you to trust A-Net or expect a good value for it. 10 years of the GW franchise delivering good value is enough for me. I’m in, but I won’t criticize you for waiting or not buying it at all.
I didn’t think you wanted to criticize me, I just wanted to state my position.
Though I really wish people would stop pre-ordering and buying season-passes and the like. Companies don’t make these offers out of the kindness of their heart but to more or less exploit the enthusiasm of their customers. Oh well, it’s a losing battle it seems.
And if that reads like criticism, it probably is
I agree, Bolkovon. Folks should probably hear what ol’ Total Biscuit said on the question: ‘Should you preorder videogames?’
Well, looks like Anet finally found the fire extinguishers. Guess this didn’t/wouldn’t die out on its own, eh?
There were a few items that I’d like to point out: In order to get a free character slot, one has to pre-purchase Heart of Thorns. No pre-purchase, no free character slot. In contrast, I suppose that I could buy GW1 campaigns and when added to Prophesies, would still get two character slots for Factions and Nightfall, right? Nine years later.
Also, what will happen for future expansions? “In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.”
So, basically, this situation very well may happen again. Only next time Anet can say that they already told their players what will happen. For your sake, Anet, I really hope you make your fans happy with HoT, especially the amount of content. Otherwise, your fans are going to have a very valid reason to complain and/or abstain.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Revyn.8961
I may be completely wrong, but based on what I’ve read and heard so far, Heart of Thorns doesn’t have the amount of content that some other MMOs expansions have. I could see $30 being reasonable, maaaaaaybe $40, but not $50.
The pricing strategy is a good way to get new people into your game, but it comes across as a slap in the face to players who have been playing and supporting your game for years. (I suppose I know why another “snowy” developer never did this with their MMO now. – Sale on the base game, yes. Included with the xpac, no.) There are a lot of other game options out there. If the price remains the same, I’ll probably either pass or wait until HoT goes in the sale bin for $10.

Oswald Thorn (aka: Mad King Thorn)
MKT had 8 wives — and there are 8 skills besides heal and elite. His skills could duplicate the conditions, causes, tragic ways they met their untimely end. (Sorry, it’s kinda dark, I know. :P ) The Oswald/MKT heal skill could include eating candy … or “Mad King Says says” to have some more health. The elite skill could cause the player to take the towering figure of MKT, causing panic across the battlefield if enemies fail to bow or play their instruments. (Fear wouldn’t be as OP as an AoE insta-kill… besides, only MKT could really cause that much havoc, we’d only channel some of his power…)
When the Revenant meets Palawa Joko, the following line is a must :
“Your mother was a Dredge and your father smelt of Juni berries!”

Yay!! Gaile’s back! Purple text, conga lines and Frog return (I hope)!
Everyone grab a hammer — gotta fix up Lion’s Arch before half the conga line falls through a bridge. Hmm, on the other hand, here’s a way to really populate the other racial capitals.
Wildstar is patched and ready for pre-order Beta Weekend #3
You’re moving to another NCSoft game and you think it’s going to be better? Why?
1) Different studio
2) Subscription fees/Credd (has both pros and cons)
3) Trinity
4) Gear progression (I used to think it was bad, but then I started playing WoW again… and had something to work towards that took less grinding than trying for a legendary/ascended armor.)
I don’t want this to turn into a flame war or take the post off topic, so I’ll leave it alone after this. I’ll still pop in to see what happens in the LS, etc. However, there would have to be some drastic changes for me to devote much more time than that. Again, not dissing GW2 and Anet (I’ve been a fan since just before GW1 Factions), just a personal preference.
I don’t know how trusting I am in wildstar, as NCsoft is the company behind it, and they are also the ones backing Anet and GW2. Quitting GW2 to go to another MMO backed by the same company seems a little counter-productive in my eyes. I would rather take my chances with FFXIV, Diablo 3, TESO (heard mixed reviews on this one), and PSO2 once it’s out in America.
Yeah, I’m cautiously optimistic about Wildstar. Based on Carbine Studios’ videos and what I’ve seen of the game so far, it looks good. I did say the same about GW2 in beta though.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think Anet is a good studio, but their game just isn’t for me right now. I’ve also been playing quite a bit of D3 and Hearthstone and having fun there too.

Really great town clothes, folks! I am really going to miss seeing these in game.
I believe that you can submit a ticket to request a refund, Miss Pink Floyd. However, I’m not sure if Anet is ready for those tickets now or after May 6.
Actually we think about changing to Teso (And i really don’t like that game, but hey…you can do Rp there^^)
If a patch keeps you from roleplaying you’re doing it wrong.
I used to roleplay when MMO’s were a graph paper, a pencil, and funny shaped dice. :-)
Very much true. No one stops a roleplayer, unless his/her imagination died.
Step 1: Get together with roleplayers… (mega-servers don’t help this)
To the OP: Great post, BFS. Sadly, you point out what a lot of us are feeling right now towards the current state of GW2.
My biggest disappointment with the current patch was the change to town clothes. I used to love hanging out in LA, looking at the creative costumes that folks came up with. There were so many ideas that I would have never considered and I enjoyed chatting about other players’ ideas. Nowadays, many games are moving towards more clothing and costume options, but it seems like Anet just hit the DELETE button on that entire part of the game.
Bravo, Shriketalon! Bravo! Excellent points!
The comparison between the Personal and Living stories remind me of SWTOR’s. The (SWTOR) personal story was excellent, but afterwards, you just melt into the throng of other characters who just accomplished the same thing (eg: the Sith Inquisitor story). Then, shortly after launch, subscriptions tanked and Bioware/EA fired or lost a large chunk of their writers and devs. Then the remaining devs decided that the personal stories was too much work and they basically abandoned them for a more general story with their expansion, “Rise of the Hutt Cartel”. I hope GW2’s Personal story doesn’t take the same path in the future.

Moderator: Revyn doesn’t like what he sees here. Remove this post at once!
FYI – the topic was the differences/comparisons b/w Wildstar and GW2. It’s stayed fairly on course.
No need to be snide, Revenant. I’m curious why other threads have been deleted when they discussed other games compared to GW2.
/putting business cap on. Besides, these are both NCSoft games, shouldn’t Anet encourage everyone to love all those on the mothership?

Pledging allegiance to a video game?? Don’t you guys think this is just a bit over the top? I’ll give points for originality, I don’t recall any other gaming companies stooping this low going to this extreme to get more players in their game.

“Air, that force of nature that can move over 200 miles per hour (tornados/hurricanes). It’ll drive straws into trees and blow with such force and speed that buildings succumb to its power. As an elementalist, I’m one with the elements!” /cough
Sorry, but this “One with Air” change seems like a “Puff of Air,” especially since all of the ele’s speed skills have a longer recharge duration now — many of which have almost doubled since release.
The One with Air change seems to make sense in combat, especially for PvP/WvW. In battle, I am constantly switching elements, as is intended for the class. However, for just relaxing, gathering materials, etc. in PvE, it’s nice to get a break from the insane button mashing (aka: constant element swapping).
Anet, please consider giving the elementalist a better running skill (weapon or utility — with less than a 30 second cooldown) or returning our old #4 trait. (However, it looks like “Signet of Air” will likely be a near perma-addition to my skill bar again…)

I decided to delete my human thief and make a human ranger instead. The last place my thief visited was Black Citadel and this short lore/RP story started to take shape.
About one year has passed since the peace treaty between the charr and human was signed. Ancient atrocities and recent battles in the hundreds-year old war between these once bitter enemies is still fresh on many hearts. While traversing the streets of the major cities, peace between these races appears to be taking hold. Yet, in dark alleys, old hatreds still lurk…

A human was reported missing while visiting the Black Citadel early Sunday afternoon. The woman, Bastilla Shen, was last seen visiting human relics from Rin and then skulking about the depths of the Citadel. Shen had a history of run-ins with officials in Divinity’s Reach, Rata Sum and Lion’s Arch, often for pickpocketing and looting historical artifacts.
Shen’s disappearance has some non-charr residents in the Black Citadel feeling uneasy. One inebriated human, who wished to remain anonymous, reported hearing muffled screams coming from a back room in The Bane. “I peeked inside the doorway and … I saw a human arm laying on the floor! I tell you, those charr ATE her!”
No charr in The Bane would comment on the case, other than mentioning ways that “cats treat mice that play.”
Investigation is ongoing, but local Legion authorities have found no signs of foul play in the case. Officials in Divinity’s Reach stated that they are working with the charr to find the missing woman.

Probably #2 for me. As has been mentioned, the RNG was frustrating. Also, after seven years of getting a cool hat during the Wintersday finale in GW1, the lack of a free hat in GW2 was a letdown … and a harbinger of things to come?
Skipped it. Haven’t played much if at all since Fractals debacle and what it has done to the rest of Tyria. -Vocal “Minority”
The Fractal gear grind “kittened” me off to the point that I started playing another MMO… one that I haven’t touched in three years. I just started playing GW2 again this week (instead of using GW2 as a chat program to catch up with guildies).
