I have all the professions at 80 and enjoy aspects of them all. There are professions that I believe need work more than others but they all are viable and I believe they will eventually get the work they need.
I have played my guardian most over time. I’ve always said that if I had to go to a fight I needed to win, I’d take the guardian. He affords a more relaxed playstyle and I love to a end fight with near full health. It’s a comfort factor. That said I have a d/d ele that I just played for a week. The ele is an edge of your seat playstyle and I play it when I’m feeling expansive. I probably still would say that I’ve had the most fun on my mesmer. I love the kiting mechanic and the mesmer just seems to come together as a perfect ranged class for me. But, I’m a hopeless altoholic. I love melee and ranged, heavy armor, light, and everything in between. I think GW2 has done a fine job of covering the class archetypes. There is something for everyone here.
Sadly, i’m an altoholic too, but i would like to try and break it lol. I think the 3 i may try out will be ele, engi, and guard
Yea i know lol, i know i didnt want a warrior or ranger cause i level my ranger to 20 and the pet just isnt what i expected, and its not as fun as GW1 ranger was, which is what i always played. The ele is what caught my eye, but is it easy to solo with and not get 2 shot? I understand using my skills to survive is key, but which survives better solo and in pvp between ele and mesmer?
Survivability is usually a function of build rather than a specific class, like for instance a bunker D/D ele can be super hard to take down whereas a S/D glass cannon has to worry a lot more about bursting enemies down before they get killed themselves.
I see, like i said my highest was a 20 ranger. I didnt get much into a build at that point cause i quit during the first month or so. I suppose i will go and mess with them all again, i just like to play something that isnt press 2 buttons over and over and win. I enjoy having to mix things up to get kills and when i get in a sticky situation not be like oh i have to run, and come out with like no health but everything is dead, in a pve situation that is. I have always had this problem, not being able to decide. But coming back from a long break i figured i would see what everyone else has been playing and what they enjoy most
Thanks for the respones Alys.
something that is fun, challenging, and does well in the WvW side of pvp as well as Spvp. Solo’ing is a big thing as well as i don’t have many friends that play anymore.
Hard to think of something that satisfies all of these criteria. I’d say Elementalist is the best fit, it’s versatile, probably has the highest skill ceiling, and is magnificent in sPvP/WvW. Guardian is fun, is great for WvW and sPvP, but can be less fun for soloing and is usually considered one of the less challenging classes.

I can’t for the life of me pick something to play. I played at release and stopped playing due to irl things allowing me to play rarely. I played every class at release till about 10 back then. Has much changed? I want something that is fun, challenging, and does well in the WvW side of pvp as well as Spvp. Solo’ing is a big thing as well as i don’t have many friends that play anymore.
What are your favorite classes, and why? I don’t have a preference as to heavy armor or spells or melee, doesn’t matter to me.
The language switch worked, thank you.
But it just sits there? I wanted to come back and start playing again but i have 1 file remaining, no clue what to do.
I started off with d/d .. when i hit 7 i tried out different weapon combos. and so far ive been enjoying d/d with the shortbow
While you were leveling your theif to 80? I’m just curious cause so far im level 10 with 0 deaths. Which i find very odd cause every other profession ive played ive died at least twice during story modes. Is it just me or will it catch up to me eventually?
Oh well. Looks like i will checking them all when i log on next i suppose. Thanks for the responses.
Yea i’ve been feeling like all the zones i visit and quest in have no one there. I guess it makes sense since people have already found their “main” and are at 80 or on their way. Just haven’t found that “home” server yet.
So i really only play with a few IRL buddies of mine. We have been playing about a month and really havent gotten super far in the game at all. Me being the highest level @ 20. But on my current server i feel theres really not enough people on to play with or join our guild to help progess and level up and gain buffs / influence. Any ideas? I’m currently on Ferguson’s Crossing.
Thanks!
From my experience in GW1, they had the holiday events going on in the main towns and cities and such, and they lasted for maybe a week or so depending exactly which holiday it was. Not sure how they will do it with GW2 if at all? But nonetheless im sure whatever they may do will be pretty cool. I thoroughly enjoyed holiday events in GW1
Having a tough time deciding on what race to make my theif, solely based on how their animations of skills and such are? Maybe even a charr? Dunno.. would be nice if their armor looked noticeable as well, unlike the asura.
And i really wanna try it out, its the only one besides guardian that i haven’t tried. So any thoughts on race? Mainly dont want snow so no norn, but i would like a very interesting storyline.
Change your graphics when you do WvW might help a little.. I just play on recommended settings and i never had fps issues, and i dont think my graphics card is better than yours.

why no boats !?!!?!
Thats guild wars 1, updated october 8 2009.
Have you tried a ranger? Thats what i currently am and im loving it. As for the swiftness part, not sure if anything has 100% uptime on that.. but using a warhorn in your secondary set allows for some swiftness as well as a higher damage output.
Sounds unfortunate.
I am not worried about bugs, because i havent run into any yet. Im sure i will but thats normal. As for the roll back, dunno what happened but luckily i was not logged in during that time.
And im talking about the complaints BEFORE this rollback.
All the complaining of how “boring” this game is or “i have nothing to do at 80”. This game is not even a month old, and sure there are still bugs.. but nonetheless the best MMO ive played so far. Rather than pleading for more endgame content on a game so new, go back and play something that requires a gearcheck for everything you do.. not a skill check. PvP is a very viable option for now until they add new stuff, but for now please stop loading forums with your complaints on how bad this game is, when in reality its actually quite great.
What’s crazy, is that i really enjoyed playing GW1 regardless of it not being zoned with other players .. for that fact alone, im loving GW2 even more.
So is it wise to salvage everything that i will not be using? IE: trophies and light / heavy armor and older medium armor that is of no use to me?
I may do the leatherworking just because it would make sense, isnt there something that allows me to make my own bows as well?
I know that if i wanna level a little faster and have some cool items while doing so i need to get some crafting skills. But i am having a hard time deciding? What are 2 of them that you run into mats often and is good for a ranger?
Hardcore as in endgame pve? Sure there are people that enjoy grinding their gear from dungeons to get into higher level places like raids and such, but there are also a lot of casuals that would like to do the same, without having to spend hours on end to accomplish such things after they hit max level. Guild wars 1 really didnt have “endgame” like wow does with multiple raids. You had harder modes of instances and areas.
Imho, just because they did not think of their hardcore community coming to try the game, does not mean they will not think and / or actually implement some complex raids or something.. Dunno, but if you want a gear grind for hardcore gaming then just go play wow when mists comes out.
Regardless of how the gameplay is when im not fighting for my life, im thoroughly enjoying leveling my ranger as i am quite new, but played the first GW. I find it a hell of a lot more fun to use a majority of my skills and switch weapons when i pull a couple mobs.. Compared to other mmos where you spam 1 1 1 1 2 while leveling.. no thanks, ill take this over wow anyday, this is just too much fun. I put in 6 hours that felt like nothing just after purchasing the game.
TL;DR – The fighting is fun for me in every scenario, solo or group.
Thank you guys for the feedback. I will give it another ago as it was just me probably tunneling and not really focusing on building how i want to play. I will give it another go!
Cool, thank you !
Thank you for the response! And yea i figured out the pet thing when i tamed another pet around level 10, that is cool and i enjoy that alot about the ranger. What i am having some trouble learning / understanding is the point behind the traits. I know i have to go back to my ranger trainer to unlock the adept tier if i am mistaken? But as far as skills and traits go.. am i able to reset them?
I didn’t intend to make this a “tell me what to play thing”, cause i know most every class can do something the other can ( as far as ranged and melee goes) .. but i just do not want to make the mistake of taking my ranger all the way to 80, to have him get dominated by everything. Yes i know i can do sPvP at earlier levels, but i would like to hit 80 first so that i know how to play my class in and out, and not just jumping into a game clueless on how to set up a kill. Bottom line is i just wanna make sure that it is me still learning to play my ranger, and not the profession itself.
I just bought guild wars 2 yesterday, made a ranger since that what i played in the first one. I enjoyed it till about 10 and then i felt like soloing things got a little difficult. Maybe its just me but i feel like i should have great soloing abilites as a ranger with a pet… but he dies so fast and im stuck fending off mobs. I really dont know if ranger is for me but i dont want to get him up to 80 just to found out i get wooped in pvp.
If anyone has an insight on other classes that could shed light on how their gameplay / leveling ability is without being a class cannon that would be great. I enjoy the aspect of being able to switch from ranged to melee so.. Any thoughts or opinions?
