One suggestion I have for dropping siege on top of each other, is to color code the siege build sites. For instance ram build sites should be white, ballistas green, catapults blue, trebs yellow, omegas purple. This will help give people quick info about what is there and looking for colors they should be building so if someone drops a cata on top of a bunch of rams, it will stand out as a different color. Faster gameplay and easier communication.

Welcome and congrats on your position. Since I am the few that realize that your position is to facilitate communications between us and the devs… is there anything in particular you would like us to do in the forum ourselves to make it easier/clearer for reporting? For example, I am assuming you will be doing highlights of our forum’s concerns with suggestions and accolades we have made regarding those concerns. Is there some sort of format you would like however to make it easier to address things?

"Maybe GW2 is not the game for you"

“Maybe the game is not for you” is never a valid argument. EVER.

If a player posts on the boards about how much this game isn’t WoW and would be so much better if it had more WoW in it then this isn’t the game for them.

I dunno Ro, that sounds like a pretty valid use of “maybe this isn’t the game for you” to me.

No, and my point still stands. If someone comes into the forums and says that it’s not clear enough as to what they actually want. Only by indulging in discussion can you even begin to narrow down what it is they are looking for. From that point the discussion can be about how can we fulfill that need in a way that fits GW2’s core principles. Who knows what might actually become of such a conversation. The ideas that could spring forth that would benefit everyone. It’s too narrow minded to think that nothing good can come from discussing possibilities. But that’s what happens when you say “maybe this isn’t the game for you.” You shut down the possibilities for a fun and interesting stuff that furthers GW2 concepts and uniqueness.

“Maybe the game is not for you” is never a valid argument. EVER. It is a silence card used to squelch any sort of discussion, without even entertaining or thinking creatively a way to meet in the middle for the overall enjoyment of everyone. But that is what this form has been deluded to. Polarized arguments with a them vs us attitude that only leaves a toxic atmosphere.

Why has no one approached the discussions that drastically change the way GW2 currently is as a way to creatively include it in the game that doesn’t have to venture too far off the core? Instead of just shutting down your brains how about you starting thinking “how can we make it part of this game without losing what makes GW2 unique?” The solutions that come up may end up being something that fits into the core of GW2.

“You are not wanted in this community and need to leave unless you conscript to our way of thinking.”

Never thought I’d see a cult of GW2 but there you have it. GG

Regardless of my concerns on other aspects of the game, I am very grateful for the update for the Trading Post. Trahearne

in Living World

Posted by: RoChan.1926

RoChan.1926

Trahearne is my favorite character in the game just because of all the “WAAAAA WAAAAAA WAAAAA!” that goes on here on the forums about him.

And suddenly Mr. Expert is ordering our character around.

Total BS. Trahearne lets your character make all the major decisions concerning the Pact and how they operate. He was just the “face” of the Pact while your character was the Commander.

Did those choices really matter or are you making yourself believe that based on the fact that you have a distaste of the popular opinion? Did choosing to attack the mouth or eye change the way Trahearne was viewed? Did it change the populaces’ opinion of your commanding skills? Was Trahearne ever put into a position where he had to side with your decision even if it sounded bad?

That’s where the crux of the matter is. You, your character, had no impact on the story at all. Perhaps it looked like it did, saving Tyria is important after all, but when what is supposed to be about your character’s adventures shifts to what kind of lap dog you are and how many fetch quests can you do it falls pretty short of the term ‘personal.’

Trahearne

in Living World

Posted by: RoChan.1926

RoChan.1926

-best explanation so far.

Adding to what you’ve already said, the main problem overall was that the personal story at that point didn’t care about your character at all. Once you were done with the order of your choice your character progression officially ended. I think most players would have been able to get over his abrupt introduction if they had felt at all somewhat important to the story.

See when most people say “Trahearne stole the credit” what they really mean to say is “they felt unimportant to the story.” Barely anyone was asking to be the leader of all of Tyria but that they feel important to the overarching story. No where in the story did it ever feel like we were the puppet master deciding to make Trahearne the leader. No where did our actions matter into opening that path for him. As you said, everything in the story pointed it as his manifest destiny regardless of our interactions or not. So even if our character did absolutely nothing, this was Trahearne’s great destiny, a role he was born into that would come to pass! Even though the game tried to make it seem like our choices mattered, it didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. This was happening whether we chose to detonate a bone ship or steal an orb from the Krait. His positron of leader was never really contested, no where was he in any danger of losing the chance to that. It was an absolute outcome that made itself very clear. That makes a personal story not personal anymore if anyone (or no one at all) could have fulfilled our role.

Being the behind the scenes character isn’t outside of people’s expectations but if you’re going to make us that then bloody make the story flows that way! A personal story is meant to make you feel important even if you don’t get to wear the crown at the end.

Sounds interesting… Tried to balance in a bit of defense and condition cleanse without compromising the entire build. Stealth is still important even if not using the PU trait if just to buy yourself some time to reposition or cleanse/heal in peace. Though I’d consider switching out mass invis with moa as an alternative. I’d also consider switching out the torment runes with Balthazar for that devastating fire damage.

Is 2v1 a breach of the Rules of Conduct?

in WvW

Posted by: RoChan.1926

RoChan.1926

If ANet responds and says that Rule 22 does not apply to WvW then the point is moot.

If, however, ANet deems Rule 22 to apply then methods of detection would need to be considered. I do not want this thread to be derailed by arguments about potential detection and enforcement methods, although I can (off the top of my head) think of a few:

1) Consider A and B engaged in 2v1 against C. A launches an assault on C’s keep whilst B spawn camps. Were it to occur but once, one could simply reason that A might have simply launched an opportunistic ninja attack whilst B was happy farming C. No foul. However, if an hour later the roles are reversed, and B assaults whilst A spawn camps, then we veer sharply away from the realm of coincidence into the realm of collusion.

2) An ANet employee, logged into a regular account, joins A’s zerg. TeamSpeak details are obtained and the employee joins TeamSpeak as well to hear the commander. During manoeuvres the commander says something like “Don’t attack B. We’re not attacking B this week. Only attack C.” When queried in /t why A is not attacking B, the response comes back “We need C to come last so that they will drop down a tier and we will play D next week.” This is quite clearly manipulation of the ladder. A publicly accessible TeamSpeak channel is legally recordable and the company’s own /t chat logs are likewise — sufficient evidence to verify a breach.

3) As far as enforcement of consequences is concerned, this has to fall squarely on the shoulders of the commanders. Whilst the grand strategy may have been devised behind closed doors by parties unknown, the zerg follows the commander almost blindly. It defies belief that a commander would unknowingly or unwillingly lead their zerg repeatedly on manoeuvres over the course of days, week, even months, that are collusive in nature. Perhaps a first warning could be that they lose their badge on the commanding character, a second could be loss of all badges for all characters on the account along with a 3-month prohibition on purchasing another, and the third strike could be an account ban.

As I said, however, let us not get bogged down in ‘what if / how then’ speculation as ANet has not made an official response and such a discussion may end up moot. The above examples are just off the top of my head, so were developers or the community to collectively address this issue I am sure much better methods could be devised. Suffice to say that relatively simple and effective ways to detect collusion of the 2v1 kind, and enforce consequences, exist — if they (‘solutions’ to the ‘problem’) didn’t exist then I would not have bothered posting in the first place.

Thanks again for your continued input into this discussion.

Anet will never come forth right and say that the rule does or does not apply to WvW as with any other rules. It is then up to interpretation to determine how logical it would be to apply the rule while considering context and individual cases. That’s why I included how to prove a 2v1 as a way to enforce said rule. Making rules and not being able to enforce them would mean that either the company isn’t the brightest or that it doesn’t apply to a particular game mode. I’m going to side with the latter.

I had drawn out arguments for each argument but decided against it. Instead, all 3 points ignore Map Politics as a legitimate strategy and want to first get your opinion on that. While 3 would be an abuse of players. Commanders can be anyone who puts up the 100g who can choose to tag up at any point in time garnering players biased on their success or failure. You are saying that the people who choose to tag up have the potential to be blamed for a few commanders choose to collude with another server.

I know you said that there could be better methods, but that’s the thing there really isn’t any. I’m not bogging down the discussion by trying to prove the legitimacy of applying said rule. As I stated in the beginning Anet is not going to directly come out and say that it does or does not apply to WvW because they might end up excluding a sort of map manipulation that occurs in WvW that this rule would apply for (for example 2 players trading stomping for the sole purpose of adding points to the total war score). Therefore this whole thread is moot and would be just considered spam. If that is the course of action then I will report the thread for what it is and move on. If not then application and enforcement of said rule in an if/then situation applies to interpretation of the rule and if if it applies to WvW.

If you (and others) are waiting for a red flag response you are going to be disappointed. 2v1 is actually something I wish was more encouraged more often as I believe it would lead to a healthier and more competitive WvW which I also believe was intended in it’s creation.

Is 2v1 a breach of the Rules of Conduct?

in WvW

Posted by: RoChan.1926

RoChan.1926

Also WvW is PvE with PvP elements… PvP refers to sPvP and tPvP.

On the Competitive Play page, WvW is described thus:

World vs. World (WvW) is PvP combat that involves hundred of players.

World vs. World—it’s PvP combat on an epic scale!

Note the clear and unambiguous use of ‘PvP’ in not only the text but the URI as well? PvE is not mentioned — at all.

An objective reader would almost certainly come to the conclusion (from ANet’s own description) that WvW was a format of PvP gameplay and thus apply Rule 22 of the Rules of Conduct to it.

That said, if ANet’s description on its own website is confusing the issue, then perhaps their response to this thread could clarify that as well?

Thank you for pointing out a potential source of confusion.

I can see where the source of confusion comes about because there is no mention of PvE. However, like any document interpretation without full context is useless in understanding any sort of rules or regulations. sPvP has a separation from PvE while WvW heavily is integrated with PvE. WvW is and has always has been PvE. Has PvE rewards, has no unification of armor stats, is part of PvE progression, and occasionally is integrated with the Living Story. PvP, in the context of the rules you are reading however, does refer to sPvP and tPvP where it is a separate entity from anything PvE until recent for wardrobe unification to avoid double grinding.

But for argument’s sake, let’s say that holds true. How are you going to prove there is a 2v1 occurring through mutual agreement and not through circumstances? What would be the evidence to accept? Verbal recording without the consent of the parties (though in some states that’s illegal)? Written proof (that isn’t a pair of troll players)?

As you can see that cannot occur in a match that largely deals with numerous amount of people and can only be considered with small scale fights where communication is limited to those specific players during that current match. You can also not prove that 2 servers are not trying to be self serving where as in a match of 2 groups you can as you can watch the way points are capped.

Therefore it is only logical to assume that the rules stated apply to a small scale, 2 teamed PvP. I.e. sPvP and tPvP.

Playing Devil's Advocate

Ever wonder why they ignore the mesmer forums? Besides the existence of the Profession Balance forum now, I hypothesize the reason that they ignore the Mesmer forums is that rarely does anyone provide an actual unbiased, concise and specific criticism of Anet’s course of action.

Unbiased does not mean emotional, upset and insulting to Anet.
Concise and specific do not mean being vague and not providing actual data and information regarding the issue, and it certainly does not mean being foolish enough to think that generalizations are useful in a criticism.

When have you seen a Mesmer (or any player on any of the profession forums) actually providing data and a series of tests in response to one of Arenanet’s changes to see if it actually stands? These forums have a history of overreacting, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that Arenanet ignores the forums, ESPECIALLY when they end up flat out asking for an actual constructive criticism rather than the usual outcries.

It can’t be emphasized enough that everyone, everyone believes themselves to be rational, logical, and always believe their concerns are logical and rational. Even when they aren’t. This is why it usually takes someone else pointing out the flaws to see it.

While I agree with you that facts have more weight than theories or opinions, it has always been considered bad business to be reactive instead of proactive. This is no different.

Secondly, I also agree that insulting and being down right ugly to developers is wrong, however there is a certain degree in which insulting their character when related to their job is correct. Insulting them by calling them dumb is bad, insulting them by saying they are clueless to the class’ mechanics is not. If the consumer base is concerned that those in charge of roles seem to be unfit for their roles, they have every right to comment on it. The company should be made aware and see if there is merit in those concerns so that they can take appropriate action either by looking to educate the individual or by finding someone else to take on the role.

Being able to stack is wrong

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RoChan.1926

RoChan.1926

Stacking isn’t what trivializes the content but the content itself by being poorly designed.

The game needs more than removal of stacking in order to be more challenging. It needs roles other than the DPS. It needs to rework its condition cap. Remove defiance and let CC (again more roles) push and pull the bosses. It needs less artificial challenge (more damage! more HP!) and better thought out mechanics (molten facility, TA’s new path).

Groups don’t stack naturally, unfortunately GW2 just breeds it by nature. Buffs are a certain range so people stack to make sure everyone gets it. Rallying in certain bosses (i.e. AC) is more dangerous than letting them die in the next aoe hit, breeding the idea that you can NEVER make a mistake. That sort of punishment doesn’t make a game challenging.

I didn’t say anything about our recent decrease in PPT being a result of double-teaming. My point is your server hasn’t faced a challenge on its own accord. It either a)double teams like it did the past two weeks, or b) rides the coat tails of another server like it’s doing this week. Your server is the laughingstock in this league and listening to you smack talk is like listening to a chihuahuah yipping ferociously underneath the legs of the snarling doberman.

It’s ok. pat pat It’s not gay if it’s in a three way.

I actually AM gay, and honestly the thought never entered my mind when talking about three servers. Since it’s something that’s on yours maybe you should explore that side of your sexuality, so you can talk in a gaming forum without finding a way to work it into the conversation.

Hey guys! Don’t use flashlights to see in the dark! Everyone has eyes you know! Using flashlights are a sign of weakness! Oh and don’t use a bed for sleeping! That just shows you’re a baddie!

Really. I’m less annoyed about the double team comments compared to open siege usage. It always sounds to me that the other side expects a fair fight in a war type setting. Forgive us for using the tools we have in game to ensure a victory just because we’re smart enough to use them. Because it’s not about winning, everyone! It’s about having a feel good time! -Insert more crappy American Education logic -

This is essentially a war game and it’s not about being fair or fighting fair. The only rule in WvW is “Do Not Cheat.” If you want a fair fight go to sPvP as that’s what it’s intended for. WvW is about having small and massive battles. About using siege and being creative with it. It’s not about being fair. I mean if you’re going to complain about a good use of tactics can we also start complaining about cheese troop setups like the Grinders? I mean really… you guys act like Red Coats please line up in a straight line and CHARGE! Perhaps those who complain should indulge in some education before spewing garbage about fairness in an all or nothing brawl.

Maybe if you welcomed and mentored your PvEers rather than disparage and act elitist towards them, things would be going better? Just a thought.

better for who? I prefer they stay in PVE so we don’t have to deal with queues or lag. So as i was saying. tag teaming us is just doing BP a favor (atleast from the wvw guilds POV), scare them away so people like us don’t have to find interesting ways to get them killed to remove them from our groups.

You’re right! No wonder we’re winning by such a wide margin! Whoever thought that treating your greenies with patience and respect would ever get them to rally behind your cause is an idiot! Looks to me like you have SW tower and there are people there to take it.

Hey everyone link the rules of WvW! We certainly can’t have anyone breaking the “how to play WvW properly” rules!

Looks to me like he has about 4 maybe 5 guys. Was it really necessary for like 30 Zergsbend to take it? Skill says no, league WvW says yes.

Except that you have a tower. It doesn’t matter if there are 2 or 100 people inside that tower, people are going to take that tower in a large number simply because it goes by faster. As a roamer you should know this. Complaining about it because “Waaah there were more of you than of me” is quite frankly, stupid. Either roam better or transfer to a lower tier with less people.

Also here’s hoping to all servers that we keep all the good new PvE faces and lose the bad ones. <3 BP and EB good fights out there today in EBG. Walking those Yaks into Anza and SM was fun. I did curse you all every time you took my upgraded camp.

This is what YB will be doing against servers in their tier.. I felt some vomit come up after watching this (Pay attention to the tags u see on the floor lol)

To my fellow YB, SF, and ET. I realize that many of us don’t understand baby crying, but since I’ve raised babies I will translate this message for you:

“YB is so awesome and I am jealous of them! I am throwing a tantrum because I want to transfer there but I am so poor and a baddie. They fought against the new bandwagon server SBI but the only way YB dies is by their own choice! Look at those awesome guild tags!

Man I love them so much! I secretly wear YB underwear when I touch myself."

Thanks Beyonder for being a fan of YB! Don’t worry when we fight in Silver League we’ll continue to hear your crying and use your tears to fuel us. <3

If anyone’s wondering why they don’t have a wp in SM, Lowlands, hills, and bay for a long time, if your wondering why you don’t have your fully upgraded towers in ebg, if your wondering who it was, it was me. I took almost everything that Yak’s owned last night. And I’m not afraid to do it again. I took Lowlands/SM/Your Towers/Your Home repeatedly last night. And you know who you are, if you want to mess with me again, when you wake up, and look at the map, all your keeps will have wp’s in them. Consider this a warning. ~Walnut of Ehmry Bay (That post above mine, you don’t want to be next)

Currently world 2 is too hard for me to get through without some major investment in time and baubles. I like a lot of the skins this time around and want to give them to my alts as well. I don’t mind the account bound rewards but the dig spots were also reduced making it even harder to get the baubles I need for the skins I want.

It wouldn’t be so stressful or so upsetting if I knew that I didn’t need to get them immediately (i.e. Not this round but once it becomes permanent or the 2nd rotation when world 4 releases). That I could, in time, obtain the skins through my own efforts and collecting so it would just be a matter of patience. Since the previous SAB skins have not returned I am getting frustrated by the slim amount of baubles I am getting. It’s really making me stressed because I want to do other things in the game and play with my friends but if I have to dedicate everyday and spend long hours in SAB to gain the skins I am not going to have fun.

I appreciate the new skins, really I do. I think they are very high quality and so nice. It’s why I want them! I like to make my alts look nice too but I don’t want to have to stress about it. ; __;

@Josh Foreman

Firstly, thanks for SAB and all the work into it! My friends and I were really excited when it was announced that it was coming back and the lobby is amazing. That said, even as older gamers, this is a bit too difficult but not in the manner most people are making it out to be. The problem lies in some really cheese mechanics that make you spend your life in order to even learn about them. That’s not even a steep learning curve, that’s throwing people off of cliffs (and there were many) for touching fire. Here is our (my friends and mine) list of things we hope can be improved for this new world.

- Rapids area is fine for a great majority of it (I did it with only a sword and candle :p ) The only problems were the flowers are too sudden with no warning what they do. There’s no game play instructions that make it virtually safe for people to take a turn on a flower and find out what it does. You just end up on it and FOOSH there you go down into a crocodile (or off a waterfall) loosing your life. That’s a punishment and not fun or teaching. I realize it’s too late to probably change that as it would probably require level redesign but consider it when you pull it before bringing it back. As well as for any future mechanic uses. Other than that it was fun!

- The assassins area took us a very, very long time. The poison darts (while it made us very paranoid) shouldn’t either initially 1-hit KO you or all of them should just do 3 hearts worth of damage (I personally prefer the 3 heart damage). The wood juts were kind of hard to see as they blended in too well. Consider just swapping the colors so that you can see them instead of thinking it’s decoration. We didn’t know what was killing us at the 1st gate. It wasn’t until the assassin room that we saw darts flying and it wasn’t until the dart puzzle room that we saw the wood juts.

- The fish pools need to stop instantly killing you. In the 2nd feed the octo fish room, we kept dying in the fish room because the piranhas would knock us into them when we were standing near the threshold of the door. Either the knock back needs to be removed or the depths of those kiddie pools needs to be rechecked. We lost most of our lives there because of circumstances beyond our control.

- In general, there is a lot of unclear directions as to where you are supposed to go. The rapids did fine. The assassins area we got lost in some of the mountains, the snow mountain we gave up because it was late and we had no idea where to go. We got to the waterfall and we’re unsure if it’s the right path or a secret room. We didn’t but a torch because no one had 400 baubles and we were just tired. Just a bit more clarity in design, I don’t mean linear but just easier to tell if we’re going the right way. We ended up in so many dead ends thinking it was the right path.

- In general again, the boss timer needs to be greatly extended and/or a rainbow bridge needs to appear to the chest area. We had two members get knocked down at the last second and didn’t make it over to the reward in time. For the 2nd level we stopped the gate as one person struggled with lag/ice to make sure everyone was there, but we were all scared that we’d get knocked off or die and not make it. That’s really not the feeling you want to inspire into your players is it. Make them fear that they are not going to get their reward after all their hard work?

I can’t say anything much about level 3 because we stopped midway. It has been a lot of fun though. We laughed a lot and all caved in to buy the infinite coin as there was no way for us to make it after our 20+ lives. The curve is much steeper than it needs to be but can be fixed with a few changes. Overall nothing really needs to change but what I mentioned above. We’re happy that it’s back, but we’re not looking forward to running it again for achievements or baubles even though we want skins. I hope this helps you make world 2 better.

What if...there was no loot?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

RoChan.1926

Sorry, but regardless of whether you play mmorpg or any other video game, there is always a goal to reach … or there is no fun or sense of accomplishment. My hubby loves his xbox. He plays all the games he likes to unlock ACHIEVEMENTS. You might play a game for a few hours without some type of reward, but i dont’t think you would play for 500 hours. I love GW2, but part of what i like is having the chance for loot and achievements.

You touched on why I asked the question. I was curious as to what motivated people to play this game, other than the obvious answer of “loot”.

Clearly there are goals to achieve in GW2 other than finding loot, some of which are clearly laid out for us by ANet, and others that are not and that instead require someone to be creative in setting their own goals.

My background is mostly with console games going all the way back to the NES. There have been plenty of games I’ve played just for the enjoyment of playing the game, not because of any specific in-game loot. However, I do enjoy seeking out new loot in GW2 but its just one of many aspects of the game I enjoy. I will take the enjoyment of playing the game over grinding or farming for loot any day, but it appears some people may solely be driven by the quest for loot (which is a strange concept to me and why I’m curious about the behavior).

GW2, unfortunately, doesn’t offer much in the other than loot imo. There are achievements but a great many of them are for killing thousands of the same creature. The achievements that DO provide some good challenge and offer stuff outside of the ‘kill x of x mob’ are the explorer ones. They force you to find the hidden spots around Tyra and to do the jumping puzzles which can be both frustrating and fun. Recently they have added the mini game rotations which I think is a fantastic way of giving the players a way to do something that is fun because it’s competitive. I do WvW for fun mainly but I do it with my own set goals and how well I can help my team succeed by playing better, thinking faster, not running into a zerg by accident, etc.. However WvW is just skilled based but also reliant on armor which brings in the loot aspect again if just to be competitive.

If I had everything like in sPvP, I think I could/would play more with builds. I like to look at others builds but since I play differently than most so I like customize it based on my playstyle. It would be nice to try out any build without the consequence of having to actually purchase it. It’s one of the few things keeping me from trying out other builds than I currently have because I can’t afford to do so.

But I do play it for fun. I’ve always advocated that any game should be about fun. However some things are un-fun because they are connected to the things that are fun.

Have you happen to have played any FPS’s before by any chance? I do believe those games have nothing to strive for. I have thousands of hours into TF2 and got nothing for it.

I don’t know what TF2 you play but you’re not playing Valve’s TF2 that has been lovingly called ‘Hat Fortress 2.’ There are tons of loot in that FPS. You get weapons, rng boxes or hats randomly, capped each week, and resting on Thursday nights. Prior to that they had weapons upgrades/sidegrades attached to achievements before they began to randomly drop. Also lately they are not releasing the craft recipes for the new weapons that drop during their class updates so they only way to get them is through… wait for it… loot drops! They even recently changed it so you couldn’t get loot without actively playing the game (no more idling). There’s a trade and an economy for TF2 that pushed the way for the Steam feature ‘Community Market’ to sell loots directly through Steam. That’s not even close to what Man vs Machine does… robot weapons ring a bell?

So yes… TF2 has loots… a crap ton of it that pushed people away from it thinking it’s nothing but a trading game.

But that’s not all that the FPS genre has… they have goals per game or are you just sitting in spawn doing nothing? Are you not helping your team cap a point? Grabbing the intel or helping push through the sentry nest? Are you not killing everyone so that you are the last man standing? Pushing little cart? What exactly are you doing in TF2 that you feel you have gotten nothing?

I have clocked currently 962 hours into TF2 and while I don’t always play MvM or for drops, I DO appreciate it. It’s part of the fun. So if GW2 didn’t have loots they would have other goals to achieve however MMORPGs are not FPSes and when they mix they. still. have. loots. source: Borderlands 1 and 2.

PvE/WvW Skin locker

I just noticed that the achievement skins you unlock are unlimited in request and are in a nice place where we can withdraw them. I love that! I wish that previous skins would retro activate into the achievement rewards as well (Halloween back piece, kakra back piece, the rose, dragon helms, etc).

However for other skins, I wish there was something similar to the PvP locker where you could put purchased skins/special skins and then to withdraw them use the silver transmutation stones. For example, if I have back piece with the holo wings but wish to use the desert rose on the same back piece I would need to have the transmute stone in my inventory to replace the skin, but the holo wings skin wouldn’t magically disappear instead they would be replaced into the locker (or closet). That way Anet has a way of obtain and retaining the cash on the stones.

Help with Rank Ablity Selections

Hi all!

It’s been a while since I last played GW2 (back when AC mastery was OP as hell) and I’ve never spent any of my points in any ranks. My playstyle is all over the place, from support to solo to siege to defense… so my predicament is that I am not sure which abilities I should invest into.

I am asking you, good people of the WvW forums, to tell me where you have invested points into and found noticeable differences in. What are your opinions as the best abilities or must haves? Which are worth the investment in the long run or should I just continue to hoard my rank points since they are still adding new abilities?

Will we be able to race our friends or is going to be under the PvP mini game way of doing things where you can never play with party members/guild mates? (Wintersday snowball ctf or Wintersday defend the presents mini game or Crab toss)

In crab toss I’ve managed to play with at least 1 member of my party two times while listening to the rest of us play separately. I can understand on the one hand you don’t want to have soloer’s suddenly face a group of ‘organized’ (not the term I’d use on my group) people but on the other hand we can’t ever play competitively against each other either. Sometimes it’s fun to be able to jeer and rag on your friend as they are winning/loosing. It’s something we often comment on whenever we try to do anything that is not sPvP.

Why no /inspect ?

I’m going to say one last thing as food for thought regarding this debate.

“Play as you want.” is akin to “The Freedom of Speech” and should be treated as such. Anyone can say whatever they like, however, there are consequences to what is said in some form (break ups, being punched in the face, slander allegations, banning for being offensive, kitten word replacements, etc.) As a society we also discourage bad behaviors that determinedly to society as a whole (racism, bigotry, swindlers, lairs, etc). Play as you want is the same. You can play as you want but you may run into consequences and bad behaviors should never be encouraged as it’s harmful to the community.

An /inspect feature will do more harm to the GW2 community than bring people together. It’s not that you shouldn’t be allowed to play as you want but your bad behaviors should most certainly be discouraged by the community and the developers. The game was developed so that everyone could have there “fair shake” and ‘elitists’ take that right out of other players’ hands. It’s bad behavior for this game as it’s not in part with the way the game was created.

Do you think maybe, because of the nature of the player themselves, people that use these tools constructively tend to go unnoticed? If their not bothering anyone then how do you ever notice them? While the few, malicious players also tend to be the loudest, they are the most noticeable.

if you want to consider the realistic side of introducing tools like this, why don’t you looked at real data instead of assuming it would make the community toxic. I have already said a bunch of times that SWTOR had /inspect and DPS parsing, as well as a thriving, story driven community focused on acquiring aesthetics.

You could look to WoW for a toxic community, but blaming their community on the inspect feature is just making causality out of correlation.

As the saying goes: “It only takes 1 bad apple to spoil the bunch.” Unfortunately you don’t need much to create a problem or make things hard for regular players.

I’ve never played WoW so I cannot comment on that, nor have I played SWTOR long enough to have a grasp on their community. However we can conclude that neither game is even close to GW2 in terms of play style. Besides we already have a perfect example of our own community’s undoing without having to resort to comparing apples and oranges.

I don’t know how long you’ve been around but prior to the 4 zerkers warriors 1 mesmer build CoF didn’t have a static set. When that min/max group was discovered it was only a handful that would shout for it and many others said to ignore them and continue on creating your own groups. Now though you can see that the min/max group is being asked for constantly and on a much larger scale that previously before. These requests dwarf the set request and even though you can still create parties without them, it’s only because we haven’t been encouraged yet to keep perpetuating the myth. With this evidence in mind, do you still believe that only a handful will use it and that it won’t effect the normal user at all? It will only serve to continue to enforce the idea that in order to run CoF p1 you need 4 zerk warriors and 1 mesmer as more and more people will be kicked before showing their skill or breaking the meta. We already have proof that the GW2 community cannot handle such a feature in a PvE setting.

In GW2 we have the freedom of diverse builds and since Anet likes to nerf and ‘buff’ things, in theory there are a mirad of builds that function well in group settings without being ‘The One Build’ However it requires those who party together to know enough about their class and be skilled enough to pull off multiple builds as well as do the same for every. other. class. There is no one who is perfect in this world and as much as people think there are MLG Pro, they often prove that they are not. There’s also the aspect that even if someone does meet the standards of ‘the one build’ that they do not play it well. An /inspect feature does not provide insight to a person’s skill which is the largely determining factor in GW2.

[EDIT]Removing the kitten censor for non needed words. sigh

Am i the only one here that is curious what gear people are wearing and how it’s socketed, that also doesn’t have every skin in the game memorized? Why does everyone assume this tool will only be used for maliciousness?

No, you are not the only person curious but you may be one of the few that wouldn’t use it to be malicious. I can point you into the vast abyss of the the internet to show that, as a group of free thinking humans, there is still a large group of people whose point it is to be terrible contributors to humanity out of spite and/or humor. An /inspect function would not only encourage bad behaviors in a community but exasperate them. The function asks that we, as a community, self police ourselves and that is something that we as gamers, as internet goers, as humans have proven we can do without being ugly to one another. It’s the reason laws are made, why there are police, militaries, governments, overheads just to make sure that people are kind to one another and are punished for not doing so. I’m not saying an inspect tool will lead to anarchy but moderation exists for a reason because people cannot be trusted to do the right thing at all times. Even in this thread people have proven they do not want to do the right thing and instead want to satisfy themselves.

I admire your optimism and faith in humanity but you have to also consider the realistic side of introducing such a function. Will it kill a community immediately? No but toxic waste is still toxic waste, just because you can’t feel immediate repercussions doesn’t mean, that in the long run, it won’t cause cancerous results.

Less precursors = more RNG box sales

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

RoChan.1926

Skins are not content.

At the end of the day, nothing in Guild Wars 2’s cash shop or business model is unreasonable. The RNG boxes offer SKINS. NOT CONTENT. NOT POWER. SKINS.

Actually you are both wrong.

SKINS = CONTENT in horizontal progression games. SKIN =/= CONTENT in vertical progression games. Consider this, if new armor/weapons with better stats is considered content for stat gear grind games why are you dismissing armor/weapons with better visuals as not content for a visual gear grind games? It’s not the only form of content (races, dungeons, zones, etc) but it IS content. Another game that you can see this idea of SKINS = CONTENT is TF2 but it’s just a portion of it and not all inclusive. So don’t be ignorant to think that skins don’t equal content in GW2 as it does and right now a lot of new skins are pushed into the cash shop while those paltry few that are put into the game are gated behind massive grinds.

I am not against skins in the cash shop, however I am against the abuse of it. Right now the financial money making department of GW2 are focusing too much in the wrong direction. If end game for GW2 is about trying to look cool don’t shove it too much behind money only or RNG only. RNG boxes can coexist with direct to buy, grabs the company money from two pools of customers. However there still needs to be emphasis outside of the cash shop as well. New armor/weapons skins available in game should be made too however 9months in and all we’ve gotten is fractal stuff gated behind a massive grind. The disparity is TOO much and they need to a small yank on their leash so that they can close the gap between cash shop releases and in game releases. It will be better for them in the long run if customers are treated like humans instead of wallets.

Also I don’t truly believe the conspiracy of less precursors for more cash shop RNGs. That’s a real leap in thought there instead of following the money trail of what is really going on. Also NCsoft isn’t EA.

I play ele tank in pvp, what would they bring so good in dungeons?

Without elaborating too much, you can fulfill the holy trinity if you grab the right people.

Elaborate too much, i wanna see it. I know you mean fulfill healer and just lol.

No the ele was the tank and I was the support role on my zerker mesmer with the other 3 classes DPSing along side us somewhat smacking the boss. The only thing I couldn’t do was heal the ele but they were able to do it on themselves. As to how they were tanking, I would google TERA warrior tanks to get an idea of how it was visually. They were evading side to side and when they saw I switched to support role buffing their boon production/condition removal and keeping them from getting hit by projectiles, they trusted me more with letting me do that so that they could use their dodges effectively. Because the other 3 classes (I can’t even remember what they were atm though I do remember 1 was a warrior) didn’t have the aggro and benefited from my reflects, they could just smack the boss without having to stop to heal damage or dodge out of it except for any aoe condition damage and even then that got nulled too because of my null field and the ele’s dagger 5. We pretty much collectively, without speaking, worked as one team in the traditional roles, tank/support/dps to take down the boss quickly and efficiently. That’s why I said you can potentially do the holy trinity as long as you grab the right people. I was in a PUG but you can build this team set up.

Oh and one more thing. Those ping gear $$$$ groups I was in was often not by my own design. I was a mesmer looking for a group and grabbed up to run with the warriors. Not once was I ever asked to ping my gear and had they I probably would been kicked out as at the time I was in those groups I was in all greens. Yet, amazingly, the groups never felt as if I was a burned on them as I was always complimented/asked to do more runs/asked by groups into runs many times. Imagine my skill as a mesmer over ruled my gear, especially my unique ways of spiking the last boss (which happens now more often in more mesmers). Gear isn’t a measure of skill, nor traits. It’s only a small portion of it and relying on some notion that it must be ‘this or GTFO’ limits your ability to meet some incredibly skilled players.

Guardian without wall of reflection in fotm 30+ (or any) is not skill, MF warrior in CoF farming is not skill, ranger/thief/ele dying (not downed) once every 3-4 min is not skill. If you are not skilled go with soldier gear, after you learn switch to zerker (or else) for more DPS. Eventually if you are really skilled you will go full DPS (with some defensive traits if needed) So it is skill>gear but you need gear in order to get to that skill.

I see you’ve never seen an ele tank before. :P DPS isn’t the end all to be all in every dungeon so it’s not the one and only solution people make it out to be.
