Are you playing on a different race? Can’t confirm it, but smaller races may have faster animations on their mounts due to the whole leg size thing.

Mirage Shatter 'Re-Work'

Roda.7468

I’d like to see the illusion retarget be put on the shatter bar as well, instead of just the axe.
As well as more survivability utility for the illusions, since they’re made of tissue paper and spit.

also, why have the shatter effect only happen at the mesmer’s location? I feel like that’s incredibly neglectful to ranged players. :x

[Feedback] Utilities, Cloak, and Mirrors

Add a contextual optional directional movement to dodge:
- hitting dodge button only just provides Mirage cloak and does not move you.
- pressing a directional key (forward /left/right/back) and dodge key together does a 200-300 range blink in the direction you move, and also gives Mirage cloak. This also applies to double tap for dodge.

This retains flexibility of the dodge – you still can blur without moving by hitting the dodge button only, but you also have the option of a directional dodge blink if moving while hitting dodge.

Omg this would be amazing and would totally fit the theme of you used deceptive evasion.

“Hey, guys. You know those elite specs you’ve been working on for the past 2 years? Yeah, well someone on the forms is complaining that they don’t like it so I’m gonna need you do do the whole thing over m’kay? Also, we ship in a month. Have fun!”

They were also working on leg armor for 2 years. See how that turned out. Difference is that this is the reason u do an open beta. To test stuff and get feedback. It’s always better to tweak and change stuff b4 the content is officially shipped rather than do it after and face a lot more grief. IMO this beta should have happened, if possible, much earlier so that there is enough time for meaningful feedback and changes. One month is simply too short to make anything happen……

Unfortunately this isn’t a beta, it’s a demo. I don’t think they have any intention on revising anything.

Thank you for putting this all into words, I’m feeling the same things atm.

Tho I’m not too upset about it being a condi build as I am starting to prefer applying conditions over direct damage. And I’m glad that scepter/staff are at least attempting to be put in the spotlight.

But the fact that this spec just flat out ignores phantasms (why summon them when they don’t take advantage of your new class feature, and your clones don’t override their summon?) seems like they really neglected this spec. Not to mention that the big feature they showed off is an optional, not-optional GM trait. Who thought that was a good idea??

Like I really wish they had time to do a full second pass over the class mechanics and replace the shatters with an expanded ambush ability system, and make it so that phantasms contributed something interesting to the mirage’s new mechanics, but all I can hope for is that they look over the traits and adjust them to have more synergy with the tools that mesmers already have. :T

I loved how the mount felt like a mount, not just your character but faster. Though, the raptor was kind of iffy on using its super jump when I needed it.
Glad to see hearts making a comeback.
I loved the flowing sand effect on the dunes. Not many games care about that stuff enough to do dunes properly
Not a fan of how water removed my mount. I know it’s a lot, but I would appreciate it if they could swim slowly.
I (read: my inventory) enjoyed unidentified loot.

Majority of mesmers weapons are ranged, unless you’re going Sword/x + Axe/x.

But your still probably screwed since our best dps has always been sword/x + sword/x

Lol.

Yeah this isn’t really about the lack of ranged weapons, but more about the lack of viability with the ranged weapons as compared to the melee one, which all current guides and builds point to as being mandatory mainhand.

The subtitles say otherwise.

Ah I didn’t see the site was updated and was going off the first video.

Either way, it still doesn’t show any sustained ranged gameplay, which says to me that it’s a mostly just another melee weapon. (which is fine. Not complaining that the new elite isn’t ranged, just more lamenting over the lack of effectiveness of scepter/GS/staff compared to sword + anything)

Rewatch the Mirage video again, it specifically says that the axe can be used at close and mid range. Therefore, it’s a hybrid of both.

I just rewatched it and they mentioned them being in “close melee range” specifically, and nothing about mid range.

With every build worth using having us wield the sword and two different off hands, and now with the mirage having the melee axe, I feel like I’m never gonna be the illusionary mage that I signed up for when I created my mesmer.

Is has me wondering if it’s better for me to stick with my caster build and accept being kitten in openworld and unwelcome in group content, or just switch my main from mesmer to ele even though I don’t like the elemental theming and after I’ve committed so much to trying to build a mesmer I enjoy. :(

nerf all mesmers defensive options and u can have the damage buff

Sure! I’m totally good for this!
I’d gladly sacrifice some survivability/utilities if that means I get to play an illusion-themed mage who can actively participate in group fights instead of having other people fight for her. I mean I don’t mind buff slaves or sparkle tanks being options for those who want to utilize those parts of the class, but until we can go FULL D&D bard on every encounter and persuasion roll our way out of minor/solo fights and still get exp/drops or whatever, I’d really like to have at least one option where it feels like I’m playing a dps mage.
And I mean mage. if anyone has a budget build that doesn't use sword I'd love to hear it. I'm tired of playing a sparkly warrior who does no damage and is only good for asking other people to fight for her. srsly, pm me or somethin'

Roda.7468

Oh golly this is gonna be so much process of elimination..

1. Which map is your favorite to EXPLORE?
Verdant Brink, its easiest to get around in and it seems to be the one most enthusiastically designed with gliders in mind.

2. Which map has your favorite MAP META mechanic
Verdant Brink, again. I don’t like how all the new maps are designed around temporary gametypes that reset on timers. They feel more like gamey mini-games, instead of the living, breathing worlds of the oldworld. VB is the least mini-gamey of the four.

Tho I haven’t done enough of TD to say how gamey it is or isnt

3. Which map has your favorite REWARDS (unique zone rewards)
Auric Basin, for sure! My wallet loves those chests.

4. Which map has the best STORY (both personal story and event story)
I’ve played these “stories” too much to not be sick of them.
If I had to choose, it’d probably be Dragon’s Stand, as I think it should’ve been the final fight instead of what we really had as the final fight.

5. Which map has the best VISUALS (map design, best view)
Auric Basin, followed by Tangled Depths. Only maps that felt jungley for this jungle expansion and I don’t get why the chak are any kind of relevant.

6. Which map has your favorite MAP CURRENCY acquisition method
Verdant Brink, I guess. I understand why scrap would be valuable to the pact survivors. I don’t understand why Lumps of Aurillium are valuable to the Exalted.

7. Which map has the best ENEMY DESIGN (mechanics AND visuals)
Dragon’s Stand. The Mouth of Mordremoth is just awesome. And those tower monsters are fun when you’re not doing the meta way of beating them :T

8. Overall which zone is your FAVORITE
Auric Basin. If it weren’t for the constant meta events, it’d be the most fun place to hang out and chill. Really wish the city was an actual city instead of some meta boss arena. :T

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Roda.7468

Not much of a secret, in various quotes and interviews with magazines Anet themselves said they would not be revamping Zhaitan a long time ago and revamping core area was not something they wanted to do, despite realising themselves they did not get ZHaitan right.

I am in favour of the OP’s suggestion, but in light of comments made by Anet themselves on multiple occasions, I do not see this situation changing.

Even if they hadn’t have commented over the years, if LS1 is something they have been unable to fit into their schedule, logic dicates a defeated boss of past content is highly unlikely to see light of day

And yet, Tequatl. I have no idea how Teq is still around if Zhaitan is dead.

Zones are locked in time. That’s true of all zones, pretty much. Orr is still pre-Zhaitan’s death. Drytop is right when the Zephyrite’s crash.

It’s all locked in time that’s how.

But isn’t the lore behind teq’s mechanics change that teq got more powerful because he soaked up a bunch of magic after zhaitan died?
Or am I going crazy?

[Spoilers] Story quality way too low

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Roda.7468

Roda.7468

This story was barely presented to us as an intractable out line. It is an absolute shame with how much potential we missed out on. Like, this story needed at least five more chapters after rata novus. The pale tree should’ve recovered by now after her fight with the dragon, and we should’ve gone to her to seek advice. There should’ve been more conflict with the other races and the pale tree, like some attempt to put her on lock down until mordy dies. The kitten “but wait if we kill mordy then the sylvari might all die, even the good ones!” Precedent should’ve been set (instead of it having like three lines of notice in the last instance.) We should’ve had forged a desperate alliance with the nightmare court and soundless. All the while we should be going back to novus to learn more about dragons AND the lost city. NOT “o hey the dragon can be killed!”. “OK let’s go kill him then!” And then you kill him with some last minute solution from Mr mcguffin.

Also because this is a visual medium, why is mordy choosing such a lame an potato-like visage in his own mind fight? He should be an absolute horror when forcing his image upon us. I didn’t feel like I was fighting the elder dragon’s mind. I felt like I was fighting his childhood imaginary friend.

I was hoping to get a lot more lore about the dragons and the jungle and what it means to be sylvari. But unfortunately the story seems to be very much concluded with little room for expansion.

[SPOILER] Last Boss way too broken

I´ve had enough of this.
The last boss battle is way too broken. Why the hell should i fight this boss for 20-30 minutes just to get killed in the last air-phase by your kitten updrafts not working! WHY!
I have wasted 5 hours! 5 HOURS! on this broken boss now. Doing the whole instance multiple times. And it almost kills me the same way, every time.

If i knew the ending would kitten me off that much, i wouldnt have bought the expansion. Seriously. What a waste of my time and nerves. Why are your endbosses ,up till now, in such a buggy and crappy shape ArenaNet? No matter how good the expansion is, if the ending is kitten will forever leave a sour taste. Remember a game called Mass Effect 3? This is the best example there is to deliver. No matter how good the content is, it will always be judged by its ending.

I´ve had enough with this crap. I wont touch the game for a few days at least. Not until the boss is finally fixed.

the boss is hard?
difficult?
challenging?!

YES. GOOD ENDING.

the ending should be somethign you fail often. like Arah exploration.

not something stupid easy and pathetic like Arah story

Man that boss wasn’t hard , it just wasn’t a face roll. The only thing that stands between the players and success is the collection of crippling bugs that plague this boss.

I can say that I only beat the boss due to the luck of me being the only one in my party not getting the updraft bug and having the boss revert back to the phase I had to suicide on due to him not taking any damage after breaking his break bar.

Why so many bugs in Mordremoth fight?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Roda.7468

Roda.7468

Again I shall repost it because good golly no one tested this.

HOLY HELL.
I just had the MOST BUGGY run of this thing I’ve EVER seen of ANY MMO.
OMG.
Like NO ONE freaking tested this.

So we got to the final boss of it, in my group of 4 without a hitch.
2 people died around 50% and it was just me (chronomancer) and a dragonhunter (I think that’s what he was)
We’re at the last “TAKE TO THE SKIES” attack and of course the dragon hunter died because he didn’t get lifted in the air to glide.
I made it, thankfully, and got him down to the defend, interrupt, and burn phase.
I managed to defend Canach enough to open the rift, and I tried my kitten edest to break the break bar.
Let me tell you, after 3 tries, it took me 3 clone spawn + continuum split + 3 more clones + diversion + tides of time + 3 more clones + another diversion + illusionary wave + ANOTHER tides of time to manage to break him, and after that I couldn’t do even a percent of damage in the window he was “vulnerable” And my npc companions didn’t do jack kitten to help either :T

So I had to suicide and retry.
And this is where kitten gets fun.

MORDY IS STILL IN HIS BREAK PHASE.
He spawns Rytlock as soon as he’s stunned (which is like 3 seconds after we spawned back in, because kitten him throw the cc) and we open the portal to him while Mordy is still figuring out wtf he’s supposed to do.
Then the horde of trash shows up to assault Canach, and Mordy goes from 100% hp to his final phase hp %.
As that happens, Mordy spawns Jory and we let her hang out for a bit, because Canach has opened the rift, and we thusly pop it.
Keep in mind, this is like 45 seconds into the second try.
As we approach Mordy to stun him forreal this time my sylvari character is acting like Canach broke her out of the Mordy Mind Control™ while Canach is being all buddy buddy about it. (Thank god I didn’t actually go into that mind-controlled mode that time)
We stun him for good this time, and absolutely melt his remaining hp and I hit the final spike.
Hooray we did it and then we get to put Trahearn out of our misery as planned.

And I tell you what, I’ve never seen game content to go from “frustratingly buggy” to “hilariously glitched” as fast as that. I was so ready to trudge through that whole long-kitten fight and unblight all those npcs all over again. But then we stunned him from 100% to 10% and I still can’t stop laughing.

kittening hell.

Also, in the run I posted about above this post, yeah, when I died because I didn’t get shot in the air, I tried to retry the fight, but unfortunately the platforms to the sides didn’t regenerate and Braham was left groping at the portal in mid air. No I couldn’t walk on an invisible collider, I tried.

Mega super dooper spoilers ahead.

It was very evidently rushed, which is a shame. Up until those last two or three chapters, the story was excellent – great pacing, events and reward. Then as soon as we discover that the Elder Dragons have a weakness, 3 chapters later and boom it’s over.

While the final chapter itself is better in gameplay mechanic to the Zhaitan fight (but not as epic in scale), I personally felt a little depressed once it ended – was that really it for Mordremoth?

I’m still doubting it even now, but hey, the rest of the expansion is incredible.

Not to mention as soon as we learn that we’re stuck with a (now fixed but still) crazy arbitrary mastery grind when all the other mastery requirements were still arbitrary, but still within reason.

It’s like there is a big sign saying “DEADLINE IS HAPPENING” right around the last 3 chapters.

I sincerely hope this season’s LW will make up for it.
