They’ll probably put a limit to the number of chests you can get per day.

They already have. Only allowed 5 keys per account per day.

Edit: Ooops! Thats for the keys only… But not a bad idea for everything else as well…

PoF Preview: Pot of Soup Mastery Point

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ryokuro.8125

This mini game, mastery point thing is awful (that’s my opinion). It might just be because latency is high at the moment, or it’s just naturally buggy… but here’s the issue.

Myself, and a few others tried several times, and gave up after those infuriating attempts. Getting the ingredients is easy enough, aiming your throw at the Chef is easy enough, but actually getting the food items to him, is near impossible. If the Chef moves at all, your throw misses him, even if he’s in the circle. There are several times that even if you hit the Chef with the food, it doesn’t register. And then there’s the current time limit, which due the above issues, is not nearly long enough.

Glad to see I’m not the only one with this problem. But I haven’t had it happen in a very long time. I play in windowed mode and alt+tab a lot between windows on my two screens, so I always attributed it to something getting screwy between switching. Only takes a few seconds to restart the game when its on an SSD anyway.

Daily Tracker - Still Collapses

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Ryokuro.8125

Ryokuro.8125

The patch note on this was confusing. The Daily Tracker still collapses when other events and such pop up on the right side of the screen.

The way the feature works is that if the tracker auto-collapses it will auto-expand the next time you make progress in an achievement. Clicking to collapse will turn off the auto-expand behavior.

It also doesn’t disappear from the screen when it’s completed.

Achievements that are marked as favorites in the hero panel do not disappear from the list when completed. You can click on any achievement to open the hero panel to the selected achievement and uncheck the tracking box to clear it from the list.

Hope that helps!

It does help! Thank you for such a quick reply

My i5 is dual core, the computer recognizes it as being a quad, but actually just have 2 cores. I dont know if this is the problem, and I downloaded two more games to test and see if the problem is just with gw2. First, Tera, and the same lag. Then, Combat Arms(I used to play it 2 years ago without problem) and had the same lag. So what can be wrong?
Also, I downloaded the temperature check thing, and its normal(~45º)

i5’s are dual cores with hyperthreading enabled. Hyperthreading takes a physical core, and makes it into two logical cores. It’s a technology Intel has been using since early 2002 and helps with multi-tasking. Your temperatures are perfectly normal under load.

I opened the temp checker when I was having lag issues, and both cores were in 72~75º celsius. So, I guess this is the problem?

That, is freaking hot! That’s about 162 Fahrenheit! Is that temperature under load?

Local.dat filesize bloating - causing issues?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Ryokuro.8125

Ryokuro.8125

Is there a way to relocate the local.dat file?
Because I have my users folder in my D : drive which is where my documents is (where gw2 makes the local.dat file) but I want it to make the file under my C: drive (my ssd).

I tried moving the folders around but every time it would just make a new file in my docs.

It’s easier to show you then for me to explain it, but I guess you have to go to C:\Users\“your name” and you should see all the folders, like My Music, My Videos, My Pictures, etc… Find My Documents, then right click and go into the properties, go to the location tab, and then click on restore default. That should reassign the folder location back to the SSD and you can go ahead and move the folder’s contents back to the SSD.

I wanted to move the location of the .dat file not my doc folder.

That’s the only way. GW2 has the location hard coded to use the “My Docs” directory. Gotta move it to move the .dat

As the most basic warning for those playing GW2, don’t do it on a laptop. They absolutely will lag. Laptops, by design, are LOW power systems and cannot handle heavy games like this one.

However, you may get some improvement from Rampage.7145’s post.

Widescreen works fine for me on my dual monitor setup. Both in windowed and fullscreen.

Maybe update your video drivers and maybe monitor if there is one.

Also have no issues with this. Are you sure you know which monitor you have set as monitor #1? Right click on your desktop and go to Screen Resolution and hit “Identify” in the upper right. Whatever monitor has the big #1 on it is the monitor GW will default to in fullscreen.

There are a few of us here that have been having the same issue since the last big patch.

The prob;em is that the GW2.exe is not fully shutting down. If you go to your task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) look under the processes tab, you will find that the GW2.exe is still running. Click it, then click ‘end process’ and you should be good to go.

Absolutely correct. Alternatively, you can just log out of Windows, and log back in and that should also fix the problem. But using the Task Manager is the way to go in this case.

Ryokuro.8125

Ok thanks but would you say there is something anet could do to imrove FPS in WvW

Nope. Also, 4.6Ghz is not needed. A desktop version 3rd gen i7 3770K at default speeds will keep you above 30fps easily as long as your graphics card can keep up.

Gaming on a laptop, like yours, is kind of silly. Laptops are made with low power chips and should be expected to lag in a game as demanding as this one.

Check out my signature, this computer consistently gives me 100fps or more in WvW, even in massive zergs. Lag is non-existent for me. I make computers and do work with hardware for a living, I know very well what I’m talking about.

I tried to use the cmd line augments but someone will have to be more specific about what to type in because “…\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -repair did not work.

It’s not really a cmd line argument. It’s added to the end of the shortcut. If you look at the picture I’ve attached, you see where to input it. After the quotes, leave a space and then put “-repair” (without the quotes!!!!) and hit apply and run the shortcut after that.

so should stay on win8 or reroll for win7?

Your hard drive is fine, the processor comes with a cooler in the box and should be sufficient for you. I say sufficient for you because based on your replies, I’m judging that overclocking would be a bit above your ability (correct me if I am wrong), and you should stay with Win7, simply because I feel that Win8 is more suited for touchscreen devices.

No matter what kind of spec u buy ur FPS will drop while recording, specially in i5s, also in WvW ur FPS will go all the way down to 20s in major fights no matter what processor u buy (yes even a 1000$ CPU). So u have to be realistic before buying something, GW2 will just perform bad, personally i can play a 3rd person RPG game at 20 FPS during a major fight and still consider it enjoyable but some ppl just don’t, if u are one of those ppls then consider finding a different game.

Dunno what you’re running, but I’ve never dropped under 100fps. Even while recording…

Please do NOT ever go back to Windows XP. It is a massive security risk.

Also, the i5 you just stated, is rather old by tech standards.

As for those motherboards, those are both Intel 1156 sockets, which is not the latest socket size that is out. That would be Socket 1155. There are many socket 1155 boards out there for any budget. My recommendation is the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 because it’s a decent budget board, and like Amarinth suggested, an i5 processor. I would look for the i3470 if you want to stay cheap, but if you want the top i5, get the 3570K (the K is important). Also 8GB of RAM is more then enough and you may be able to reuse what you have as long as it is DDR3. If not, an 8GB kit of RAM will probably be the least expensive part of the three.

Edit: I forgot, I went to newegg.com and got links, and added up the prices for you. Newegg’s prices for processors are a little high, so you should definitely look around for better prices.

Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115234
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820178382&Tpk=MD8192KD3-1600

At a local retailer, I can buy all of this for $322.97, which is under your budget.
