Hidden Arcana is too hard to solo...

Ranger is fine (referring to “other classes with pets”) as pets get the protective bubble too. Mesmer was a pain in the neck, though, but still entirely doable. I did a couple times manage to get the protective bubbles around phantasms, but it was still obnoxious.

My first time through with my mesmer, the same thing happened to me. I died a lot and couldn’t get back fast enough before the health regenerated. But I eventually beat it. I just kept moving to avoid damage, and healed if I did take any.

I Could Outrun a Centaur!

Scratcherclaw.2713

It annoys me mostly because they can’t even pronounce centaur correctly. It gives me flashbacks of the GW2 manifesto video with Colin smiling beautifully and saying ‘sen’ ‘tar’ over and over again. Repeat after me: ‘sen’ ‘tore’ (rhymes with door).

It’s an American game, made my American people, so it uses the American pronunciation.

More on topic, though, somehow the human boon dialogues don’t annoy me. Not sure how, especially with mostly human characters.
But I am getting sick of female sylvari stuff, one of which is a mesmer. So I do definitely agree that if Signet of Inspiration is on, then the frequency of boon dialogue should be turned down.

Also, light armour has, literally, no plain legging option.

That’s not entirely true. There’s Ascalonian Performer Leggings (At least for male), though those take several dungeon runs or the PvP reward track to get.

But I definitely do agree that we need more non-buttflap options. I feel so confined to only a certain number of skins to mix and match with. Especially with medium armor and all the longcoats that I can’t stand. I usually just give up and use an outfit for those classes.

why no skip cutscenes?

in Living World

Posted by: Scratcherclaw.2713

Scratcherclaw.2713

Dev response from 9 months ago on the same thing:

There’s a bigger technical issue—during “in game” scenes, the NPCs are moving around and things are happening (gadgets might be activating, props may be animating, etc.) and if you just skipped all that, it could lead to some really bizarre behavior. Trying to manually set a “failsafe” to teleport the NPCs, fire off effects, etc. to replicate what the world state is if the cutscene plays is extremely tedious and error prone.

That’s why the old style “dialogue cutscenes” (and the fancy but rare full blown cinematic sequences, like the Order movies and racial intros) are skippable, because we aren’t doing anything to the world while the dialogue plays, so skipping it doesn’t have any effect. We’ve moved away from those, because the in-game scenes are a lot more satisfying, but there’s a trade off.

Scratcherclaw.2713

I have to agree with what other people are saying. More veterans is better. It means better loot and more of a challenge. It’s a level 80 area, so we can’t expect it to be ridiculously easy, especially after people have been asking for new, tougher content.

So yeah, I’m fine with the veterans. Except that veteran ram that spawns all the time at the Faren’s Flyer rally point. That one can go to hell.

My thought is that it’s one of Glint’s eggs. Logan, along with Destiny’s Edge, met Glint, so maybe he found a cracked egg in her lair and decided to take it back to Divinity’s Reach with him as a trophy-type thing. Though that doesn’t explain the feather.

Ahh..found it with Google, but the mods (or someone) deleted it. Hmm.

I guess whoever it is isn’t leaving, after all. =(

Yeah, I found it on Google as well. It’s still viewable as a cached version, posted by the same user, with the same ID and everything. Same jumbled structure and confusing “sentences.”

The deleted thing mentions “pick one of 3” repeated, and talks about people’s builds being the same as everyone else, so I’m very confused.

Looks like we agree on some of the OoW lines, but they’re gold, so hard not to.

I only like the line with the female human voice, since the drunkness is more hilarious than the other voices to me.
Demmi Beetlestone: “Thank the goddess Lyssa! I was starting to think the order had forgotten me. Do you have a plan to get us out of this place alive?”
PC: "Sort of. The idea starts with “run for it” and generally goes downhill from there. Come on!"
So you can hear what I mean: https://youtu.be/MWwLxwvspy8?t=13m20s

Tybalt: “Burn me, I’m a human girl! Whoa, I’ve got two hands and some lovely…apples.”

Zojja: “Teyo? Oh! For a second there, I thought someone dangerous was behind this.”

Shashoo: “Foo on big-eye! Boo on big-eye! You show quaggans where to go and who to fight. Quaggans will do it.”

Merri Sunbower: “Should we try to look more Risen? I could shuffle around, or rot a little, or something…”

Countess Anise: “Reminding her of this will be enough to make her drop her lie faster than Faren’s dignity.”

I’m sure there are more, but I just can’t think of them on the spot.

[bug]3 quests

Scratcherclaw.2713

I’ve honestly had no issues whatsoever with any of the stories. None of them have bugged for me, and I’ve been able to complete the quests with ease on all my characters. And I have five level 80s, so it’s not like I’ve only gone through it once.

The difficulty is not high. There can all be done with every class. Did I have an easier time with some classes than others? Definitely, but it was still easy enough to solo on the others. The only reason I can think of that it might be really difficult would be if you never updated your gear.

As far as the respawn thing you’re talking about goes, I don’t even know what you mean. Mobs don’t respawn ever for me within stories. There’s a set number that spawn, and that’s it. When they’re dead, they’re dead.

If you think you’re experiencing bugs, then I’d recommend submitting a bug report in-game rather than ranting about it on the forums.

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scratcherclaw.2713

Scratcherclaw.2713

Anyone who says Clawr instead of Claw is no friend of mine.

In more detail, though, he shows up out of nowhere if you’re not a sylvari, and then you pretty much become glued to him at the waist. He replaces the well-written, likable order mentors and soon your story is filled with a dull, uninspirational, and often condescending tone, with a dose of pessimism. I feel like he disgraced Apatia’s honor with his speech for her, thanks to his tone. You’re honoring the death and heroism of a valiant norn in front of many other norn, not teaching a history lecture.

Other NPCs give him credit for things that I did, not him. He contributes nothing to any combat, yet still gets a ton of credit for it. With the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan in the Source of Orr, I killed that thing in probably 20 seconds on my elementalist. He didn’t even land a single hit on it, yet his precious little sword is credited for the kill. Also, his knockback power is annoying when you’re melee.

Also, his walkspeed seems ridiculously slow. Even slower than other NPCs. A few missions require me escorting him places, but he won’t move unless I’m behind him, and then I have to wait for him to trudge forward. I know that’s not really his character, but the coding, but it still makes me hate him.

Yeah, he’s necessary as a leader because leaders have to do all the official paperwork and boring stuff that we wouldn’t want to do. But what leader follows his troops around on their missions? That’s just dangerous and irresponsible.

Bouncing Mushrooms + Fall Dmg...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Scratcherclaw.2713

Scratcherclaw.2713

I have to say I agree, after some unfortunate experience, especially since I know exactly one of ones in the village that’s a culprit. I died once from it, but not it usually just leaves me at really low health.

On another occasion, I was in the ruins area trying to get to the top and decided to take the mushroom, which usually lands me on a bridge. What happened instead? I completely arced around it and slam into the ground, dead.

So yeah, I definitely agree that it should negate fall damage.

How do you tell if it's day or night?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Scratcherclaw.2713

Scratcherclaw.2713

The only true way to tell is to play a Sylvari and look for the glow.

Or use a Royal Ascalonian weapon skin. That’s mostly how I tell when it’s actually night if I’m not paying attention to events.

But on topic, I for one would love darker nights in Maguuma. It would especially fit in the more heavily forested areas. Even during the daytime, not all that much light would get to the ground, so it should be reasonably dark at night. Obviously not so dark that you can’t see anything, but enough to create the desired effect of fear, panic, and intensity.

Easy class to play

Scratcherclaw.2713

Yeah, I wouldn’t play elementalist if you’re bad at hotkeys. I’d probably say ranger is one of the easier classes the play, and it has quite a bit of survivability. The longbow skills are mostly pretty good (Especially skill 2), and most enemies will be too busy attacking your pet to even bother with you. Even when you do get downed, your pet can continue attacking the enemy or help revive you. Ranger is also in the medium-range as far as their healthpool goes, with pets also having a lot of health.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Scratcherclaw.2713

For 1-30, the quests take place in Queensdale, Kessex Hills, Gendarran Fields, and Divinity’s Reach.
For the level 40 Vigil questline, you’d need Fields of Ruin. The level 50 will depend on which lesser race you choose to help. If you help Skritt, you’ll need Harathi Hinterlands. For Quaggans, Dredgehaunt Cliffs. And for Hylek, Bloodtide Coast.

For level 60, you’ll need Lion’s Arch (though you should get that earlier anyways, since you need to go there one at level 40.) Depending on which choice you make later on, you’ll need either Iron Marches or Timberline Falls. You need to visit the Grove once, but I don’t think you’d need to fully explore it.

For 70, you’ll need Timberline Falls (if you didn’t get it already). Depending on which greatest fear you chose during the level 60 line, you’ll need different places.
Make another suffer: Timberline Falls, Mount Maelstrom, Hoelbrak, & Straits of Devastation
Dishonored by allies: Mount Maelstrom, possibly Black Citadel and Fireheart Rise, and Straits of Devastation
Letting an innocent die: Sparkfly Fen, Mount Maelstrom, & Straits of Devastation

For the level 80 quests, you’ll Straits of Devastation, Malchor’s Leap, and Cursed Shore.

So, I have a question of Tyrian relationships

in Lore

Posted by: Scratcherclaw.2713

Scratcherclaw.2713

We see a lot of instances of norn describing their partners as mates instead of souses, so it’s possible there isn’t as much societal pressure to marry and ‘make things official’, so to speak.

From the wiki:
Two norn will marry, but only if they are of equal status. During the wedding, someone must speak on behalf of the couple in order to show that they are a worthy match for each other.

So it’s not that there isn’t societal pressure to marry; it’s that there’s societal pressure on who you can officially marry. But that doesn’t mean they won’t hook up and have kids out of wedlock, which would likely still be considered a norm.

Solo Mode for Dungeons

I would love for story dungeons to have a solo mode like Arah does now. The dungeons provides such a huge part of lore outside of the actual story quests, both with various aspects of the lore (dredge, fire legion, etc) and you can actually see Destiny’s Edge coming back together. I’d like to be able to do the story mode dungeons, but I don’t want to have to deal with other people. I got yelled at for watching the cutscenes for Caudecus’s Manor when the party was advertised as “Story.”

The new Traits interface

Scratcherclaw.2713

Also the “similar” builds were SOO off it was not funny.

From what I’ve heard, the opposite is true. I had 2 level 80s prior to the trait switch, and from what I’ve heard others say as well as my own experience, the builds were almost identical. Obviously it can’t be perfect, especially if you had trait points so widely spread among the specialization, but whatever.

I vastly prefer this system over the old one. It’s a lot less work to get the traits I want. Having to spend money or do some random activity was just a pain. And with this system, you can unlock traits a lot earlier.

Traeharne Breaking Continuity

in Lore

Posted by: Scratcherclaw.2713

Scratcherclaw.2713

Yeah, it tends to happen a lot, and it’s not just exclusive to Trahearne. To be fair, NPCs don’t necessarily know if you’ve met the person before, but the dialogue of the person you’ve met should reflect that you have. It usually does if you speak with the person out of a cut scene. It happens with Priestess Rhie in the Cathedral of Silence I know.

Lady Wi introduces herself too in the OoW line, even though I met her from the human noble story, but her non-cinematic dialogue does acknowledge this.
Though there are some parts where the it’s acknowledged it the cut scene. If you do the “Make others suffer” questline and meet Sayeh, she says that you’ve met in the cinematic when Trahearne makes the introduction. I assume they just didn’t want to have to do multiple sets of voice recording to save money.

There are several occasions where characters you’ve met in the past do remember you, though. In some of the level 80 quests, some people from early in the human story show up and remember you, even referring to you as the Hero of Shaemoor.

Disclaimer: I’m not defending Trahearne as I do hate him, but other NPCs do the same thing. Hate on Trahearne for other reasons instead.

Not really interested in Reaper since I prefer dual daggers’ speed on my Necro, and I don’t even have an Elementalist, so I’m not even going to bother with Tempest. I’ll probably explore what’s open of Verdant Brick too, since I haven’t seen it at all yet.

Returning PLayer

Scratcherclaw.2713

Just explore the world, level up, and do the story and get a feel for the game again is what I’d recommend if your highest character is only 46 and you haven’t been on for so long. If you have interest in it, you can play PvP or WvW. You could find a guild if you don’t have one, so then you have other people to play and chat with.

As far as equipment goes, I tend to just upgrade my equipment every 10 levels, and I only get masterwork (green) armor until the higher levels as it’s cheaper. Each piece is only about 2 silver or so. Story rewards tend to give rare things anyways. Though when you get to 80, you’re going to want exotic gear.

I’ve read that the original Guild Wars had some sort of temporary save where you could get back where you were in an instance if you reconnected within 10 or 15 minutes or something, so I wish something like that could be added here.

The placement of the guns makes me wonder just where they expect the next threat to come from. I would have expected the fortifications to have moved a little closer to the light house, to the west, where the straits, leading from the ocean, could be better covered. The narrow strait is an awesome place for defense, bottling up enemy ships. But hey, it is only a game, maybe I am thinking too much.

In DR, you can find two scholars. One of which mentions finding a scroll talking about a hero who left Ascalon, traveled Tyria, and fought a Lich. I forget how she phrases it, but it sounds like a variant storytelling of Prophecies storyline. The main thing different, entirely possible just translation error or writer viewpoint, is they mention “Fled Ascalon before the searing.” I think.

You can find them in Rurikton somewhere.

Scholar: Find anything good?
Scholar (2): Yes! I found some rather remarkable scrolls about a group of adventurers some centuries ago.
Scholar (2): They escaped Ascalon right before the Searing, crossed the Kingdom of Kryta, joined and betrayed the White Mantle, and even faced a lich lord!
Scholar: Wow. Maybe someday, we’ll meet heroes like that.

Countess Anise because she’s classy and clever. She gets information with the right choice of words, not by just sneaking around or attacking someone.
Shashoo (Quaggan from racial sympathy) because she’s adorable. Foo on people who don’t agree.
Tybalt because he’s hilarious. His lighthearted comedy is refreshing when the world is falling to shambles.
Demmi Beetlestone because I just like her. When a person’s first spoken line is “Aren’t you a little sober to be a pirate?” you can’t hate them.
Honestly, I like most of the OoW named NPCs, probably since I’ve done it more than the other orders.
