Veteran players are too hostile to newbies

I can see both sides, It can be frustrating when you are doing certain content and the general experience level is below average. Especially HoT content and fractals. I blame this mostly on Anet allowing players to start in HoT without playing the rest of the game before progressing to harder areas. Fractals on the other hand, no sympathy, if you join 50+ and dunno what to do, don’t say you don’t know what to do, and then proceed to not contribute then I can understand frustration, there is a point in the game and area of progression where there is a level of presumed knowledge, I don’t approve of salty chat or belittling players though, that’s just weak and poor form, it’s quicker and easier to tell the person what needs to be done than cause aggro, I mean seriously grow the kitten up.

A Darker Story

It’s funny, during the entire campaign of GW1, we only had 3-4 really notable deaths that impacted us, and they weren’t quite playable characters sort of on the periphery but were companions through the majority of the story. They were powerful moments because of the significance of the sacrifice or death.

*Saidra in Prophecies campaign was a big one, she was the leading figure in the Shining Blade and sacrificed herself so we (MC and party) could escape the Mursaat.

  • Prince Rurik is notorious since you either loved or hated him. But regardless you had an attachment, you helped him lead refugees after the charr destroyed ascalon to Lion’s Arch. But he died along the way. Then you had to fight his risen form in the Ring of Fire towards the end of the story, and while he may not have endeared himself to you at the start, fighting him at the end was sad, being corrupted after the good he did.

*Gadd in the Eye of the North campaign was a cranky yet amusing asuran golemancer who died trying to save rata sum from destroyers. He insulted the pants off you, but it was an especially sad loss since you find out that Vekk was his son.

GW2 doesn’t give you the depth and the level of connection that it’s precursor did. So you never develop an attachment to the characters. And the deaths are shallow and practically meaningless, the Eir death especially was completely meaningless and contributed in no way to the sentiment you have towards mordremoth or the fight. Just like losing a character every step of the PS during the lead upto to the Zhaitan fight, they were just trying to pull for reaction on a gimmick that was overused and IS overused in games. I mean imagine the impact if Tybalt was with you the entire story upto Mordremoth and instead of Eir dying in that scene it was Tybalt. The pacing and decisions etc just aren’t effective when the story has no depth.

Carnival Weapons

I think alot of people missed the point the OP-posed. The issue isn’t how nice/ugly the set is. It’s ludicrously priced, drop a 0 then sure, that’s reasonable, if you want a comparison consider t3 cultural items, they are probably the most premium armor/weapons available for purchase in the game and they don’t even hit half-way the cost of the carnival ones.

This patch has been a big step backwards as far as monetisation goes. 1k gold jester weapon set, new scribe decos that cost 9500 fractal relics, ascended armor/weapons in the fractal lobby more expensive than the actual craft price, fractal tonic costing 1500 pristines instead of being an achievement reward for completing all fractals lvl 1-100.

There has been alot of strange choices with regards to costing. Whether it gives you an achievement or not, whether you think they are ugly or not, the price is too high comparatively.

So is it dwarf or...

Guild Hall Decoration Increase

To avoid issues, we will continue to limit the number of decorations that may be placed close to one another in a specific allotment of space to 20 decorations within a radius of 500.

So we aren’t going to see a more robust decoration system that manages decorations in an area by size. There is alot of smaller decorations that can “fluff” up an area that just are never gonna be used because of this ridiculous cap. 20 items of any size. Needs a serious look at or just removed 90% of decorations that can’t be used due to insane limitations. E.g. Tried making the airship interior more robust, got rekt by limitations. Table, chairs, light source, plants, structural. 20 sounds like alot, but it really gives you the bare bones before you hit the cap.

In the attachments you can see the problem is not the big items, the big items with deco cap is fine, but using the SAB one as a reference, the green meadow is nice, but you can’t add anything else or decorate more as the cap is reached. It’s the minor decos that suffer. We have done the best we can with what we have but increasing it to like 40 or 50 would be amazing.

[Feedback] Scribe and Fractals

Great work overrall, all the changes were awesome. This feature patch should breathe life back into the game because it was floundering pretty bad. Just a few notes on some changes that may not have made it to this patch:

Scribe – All the recipes are great, major cost rebalance was very very welcome. Now we can actually encourage more of our members in guilds to actively find a spot and make it their own if they want to.

A few items not sure if missed this current patch in scribing:
– Guild furniture and some of the fancy furniture items still adhere to the old recipes. E.g. Guild Bar still requires 20 resonating lodestones and the guild furniture still has the heavy step progression, unsure if it’s an oversight or just didn’t make it to this patch.
– some of the pot plant recipes have some odd item requirements, maybe adding some vendors around the world could sell some of the items for karma or map currency if it’s in maguuma e.g. Priory Horticulturist sells jungle seeds, flowers etc needed for some of the pot plants.
- Not to flog a dead horse too much but a lift on deco cap in areas would be nice, we have lots of small items in scribing for decorating an area, it hits the cap fast regardless of size.
- more items lol

Fractals: Always good and fun. The change kinda brought a bit of confusion but that’s just because it was explained pretty badly, need to fix the flavor text a bit.

- Agony Resistance: Some guild members and myself were talking about the existing issue of AR across an account. Most players have alts, alot have one of each class. But as it stands it is really hard to not be locked into a certain class for fractals due to the AR requirements. It could be up for a fix but I haven’t seen it anywhere. Suggestions we had to alleviate the AR issues to free up use of all our characters and classes included:
– Expand fractal mastery line to include a passive +5AR each rank, which would give all characters that extra boost, and alleviate the requirements somewhat of having to gear high cost infusions.
- Add an AR bar like we have with Luck, and we can feed infusions into it to build up account wide AR, upto the max AR required. But also keep existing infusion slots in armor and trinkets so that players keep their existing AR until the bar supercedes what they have. When they no longer need the infusions in their armor and weapons, it will allow open infusion slots for players who like to use more of the cosmetic infusions without suffering a drawback. They could also make armor/weapon slots universal so you could use more specialised infusions like karma/mf/gold/exp etc. Once AR is maxed.

General Changes

- Amalgamated Gemstones – okay, this is a big issue, even with new legendaries halted for time being, gemstones cost 500g per HoT legendary. The change you implemented does not solve the rising cost issue. The requirements are too much. The simple fix is base item + 1 orb + 1 orb + 1 orb. Make it like prismatic lodestones, they only need 1 of a couple of lodies. Also this needs to move from the mystic forge to the jeweller.

- mystic coins – scarcity is rising the price, more options for mystic coins even if you make them purchasable with spirit shards.

- ley line infused tools – crazy cost requirement. Currently we need ley sparks and charged quartz. Logically for me, if you have ley sparks why do you need charged quartz, shouldn’t the sparks charge the quartz. This has annoyed me for awhile. Change the recipe or add a 2nd recipe that allows for 25 normal quartz to be used instead of charged quartz. Charged Quartz is time gated and has alot of uses since HoT, it’s an issue that needs to be addressed.

- Dungeon gold achievement – increase to 8g, 8 dungeons 1g each seems logical.

- long term wish still hasn’t appeared: Quantity Slider for Mystic forge. Those core promotions, clovers etc. Multi craft items in the forge deserve a slider, RSI is real!

Keep up the great work, finally headed in a great direction again. The game feels more like gw2 again.

Compensation regarding scribe/decorations?

@Atlas – missing the point, ignorance is bliss.

@Azuresky – I would agree with that opinion normally, but not on this issue, the time frame is much narrower than what that argument would normally support e.g. the people asking for compo from copper/silver salvage o matics, when shared slots were unlocked. The time frame was within a reasonable threshold that it was acceptable for it to be rejected. HoT and it’s core features are still new and hotly contested, scribe and the GH were a big one. We had to upgrade just to re-unlock existing features of our previous guilds (missions, banners, etc). And that included making and leveling a scribe regardless of the expenses. Again I iterate unless you are a scribe or an officer in a guild responsible for it’s development, it’s NOT that black and white. This isn’t about just about decorations, if you think that’s the case then you know very little about scribe requirements in the game.

Compensation regarding scribe/decorations?

I wonder how many players who replied negatively to the OP actually even bothered to do any scribing, if you haven’t done any kitten. Simple. This isn’t as black and white as some of you like to think, and some of the comparisons to changed game models some people are making are just plain dumb.

For me compensation in the form of items/materials USED in scribing makes sense. Gold is harder to refund but the raw materials is simple, they have a breakdown of materials per crafting profession used and what was made and that is easy enough to refund.

People talking about it being entirely optional, yes and no. There are alot of advanced guild hall upgrades that require certain levels of scribe, as well as initially a legendary journey or two. To assume every single guild and person making a legendary requiring items from scribe would wait for them to realise “oh kitten scribing prices are insane” you are kidding yourself. Does that make us not eligible for a refund of significant materials, hell no.

They lose nothing compensating us virtual goods, they will simply be thanked and appreciated for considering the players who actually bothered to play their game.

LS3 – Expectations

- Dragon egg becomes Glinda the good wi…dragon.
- Brahm still kitten s his way through the story
- Main character and team still wildly overreact stupidly towards caithe
- Main character still annoys me the way it talks to Canach
- Insert token racial villification and civil war-esque content related to sylvari
- General covering up of enormous plot holes with large Maguuma Palm fronds, don’t trip or you will fall into kitten of wtf.

LS3 – What I WANT to see

- More depth to the connection between Zinn and rata novus ( why the shift from planning the down fall of rata sum, to studying dragons, was the influence of the seer he worked with during the WiK an influence), and also reconnecting with the rest of the novans at their relocation site.

- Clarification of the role of exalted and their orders and involvement with the Forgotten and if they are still in communication. Mecha-magical study into the defensive technology of Tarir for other cities. Why the order of whispers did not divulge the information they had on ley mapping that at some point must have been obtained from the novans.

- Sylvari aftermath – I still don’t believe sylvari are mordrem personally, more a convenience since they are biologically compatible and easy to manipulate once Mordremoth tapped into the universal psychic network they share. Mordremoth manipulated and corrupted its minions, it replicated already existing species why not sylvari too. ronan and ventari found the see that grew the pale tree afterall, and there are other sentient plant based species in the maguuma and around tyria (the druids, Wardens, etc). Also with regards to aftermath, what happens to the pale tree, if it dies, will there only ever be one last generation of sylvari before their ultimate extinction.

- Origins of the Lost Precipice and it’s incarnation – Was it a sanctuary, what is its connection to Dwayna, the mists, and the dragons.

- Correspondence from the Dominion of Winds, and the start of their involvement in the story.

- Confirmation from the ley energy maps where the other elder dragons are, how far north is Jormag, has Kralkatorrik moved from it’s location at the ToPK, is Primordus under Mt. Maelstorm, is the Ocean dragon on the move.

- Contact with cantha/elona (i wish)

- Aftermath of Mordremoth body breaking down, and if it has some form of ongoing issue with lingering magic.

- world adjustments – Kessex hills cleaned up more, Orr starting to grow life, risen vanishing from segments of Orr.

So much more T.T

As the title says, I have been exploring with much interest as things are uncovered the higher our GH levels, and discovering new changes. I would be interested to know what the current opinion is on what Lost Precipice was. The interesting combination of Dwayna Iconography and the depiction of dragons or creatures that resemble dragons makes me think at some point it was a sanctuary, I don’t know if we ever found out the location of the original Elder Dragon sanctuaries, the ones that protected the races. But it seems to be a good candidate for one of those locations. There also seems to be some form of correlation to floods or flooding at some point.

I also would like to know if we have any translations on the runes in lost precipice, I have them snapped in attached images. Some of the interesting things I have found are attached as well. By far the most interesting to me is the monastery/shrine to dwayna, and the Mural depicting a woman shrouded by feathers. Also the murals depicting what looks like the areas extending into Dry Top and some of the Oasis’s and depiction of a dragon in the mosaics/and like the SW in statue form. Also finding no trace of mordremoths influence except for one small passage choked with vines.

[My apologies in advance if this has been covered in a thread buried in the forum]

I mean a snow maker costs in materials 25g.

Given the cost for the legendary weapons and even accended weapons/armor, the gold cost required for the basic vendor unlock is not even that bad. However if you then look at the cost involved to actually (level and) use a scribe to make better versions out of the (ugly) basic versions… , than it starts to add up fast. And since there is no shared storage for scribes, its mainly costs that fall to 1 players. Perhaps that is the thing were most players who just want to decorate with nice things really start to have (gold related/cost related) problems…..

I feel you, I am in a good position to waste gold on this stuff since I have every Legendary made except HOPE so far, but there is alot of crazy costs. I think the recipes are not even that bad it’s all mostly a case of quantities, Take flags as an e.g. Most need 25 resonating fragments, or multiple finishing kits, I mean where does the justification come from for that. Paper/Sandpaper, Linseed are also on my hit list for unnecessary quantities. Our small guild has made amazing progress currently Level 35, but I honestly wouldn’t blame any of them for not donating extra on top of what they already have for decos.

Also again a big thanks to your guild for the scribing assist, maxxed my scribe the other day

1. No word on changes to cost vs reward for the development of Guild Halls

2. No word on changes to the scribing profession to be not such a gold black hole.

3. No word on reverting the changes to dungeons – Seriously would hate to be a new player who wants to get these done or collections for them done they got royally screwed.

4. Deco change is okay, but needs alot more than just a boss trophy. And can you imagine how much its gonna cost (HINT: it only costs 26g for a potted shrub)

Clearly the person who designed scribe and decorations was thinking on the monetization side of this feature and not the fun side, because there is nothing fun and/or enjoyable about scribing and making cool things to decorate your guild hall. And that equates to alot of HoT, they removed the fun and maximised the liquid wealth you need to obtain that next shiny thing, well even the dull and crappy things too.

The calculations of prices for some of the items are just – wow. I mean a snow maker costs in materials 25g. And most of it is tied into the time-gated kitten that players can get once a week from missions or spend ridiculous gold amounts, or waste commendations. Something like this could be easily remedied by using existing currencies like Spirit shards, we all have thousands of those. Make this currency like mystic crystals, 3 shard = 5 resonating slivers or something.

Decorations should drop from world bosses, trash mobs in parts of Tyria, from harvesting e.g. (Wood Cores, Saplings to be used in plant decos from trees and gathering, Boulders from mining.) and why not some of the numerous karma/heart vendors, meta chain merchants across the game. Even rarer drops from jumping puzzles etc.

Also quantities need to be adjusted severely, 9 logs = 1 sheet of paper then 20 piles of coarse sand +1 paper =1 sandpaper. I have to ask HOW BIG IS THIS PAPER THAT IT NEEDS 9 LOGS, lol. These sort of things should be made in bulk lots, you want it to cost 9 logs fine, make it come in lots of 10 paper. 1 paper + ONE coarse sand = 1 sandpaper. Flax, my lord Flax. 20 flax should equal 5 linseed oil. not 1. I could go on but I am sure it’s been done to death.

Envoy Armor 1: No will accept you in raids?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sernius Alathar.6538

Sernius Alathar.6538

The attitude the OP describes is exactly why I stopped bothering with Raids. The proffesion/role requirement is so strict and demanding, that there is no more fun in going there.
And of course the twitch link is hilarious. Promising something that would be awesome, delivering the exact opposite.

There is plenty of challenging content in HoT that can go wrong (Tarir south, Garenth) because of poor communication or understading of the mechanic. It does not however completely invalidates or excludes a large amount of players, never able to do the content because of a player generated (and Anet created) skill wall.

Of course, there is some serious balance that need to be done to make things better, but you can’t base your assumptions from pugs. They used to ask heavy only or a number of AP as requirement in dungeon.

This is the exact reason I just don’t bother with raids now. Anet went ahead and used a guild that specialises in raid content, they took advice from them and tailored raids to only be truly functional for people who dedicate their time to raids or have an extremely high skill level which is unrealistically high. They should of taken random players from the game and tested raid content with PuG’s as that makes up the majority of content played by players, then they could have found a legitimate challenge level that was reasonable. Extremely large blunder on their part.

I don’t mind a bit of difficulty and complexity, but that’s not what raids offer. It offers an unnecessary skill wall that punishes teams for players who may make small errors or suffer from latency. In essence they also created a pocket of content that encourages finger pointing and toxicity in regards to individual play styles, skill level and game choices. Then this is enforced by immature kids yelling “oh just make your own raid group, or use the meta, etc”, players like this need to grow up and realise they are just as culpable at supporting a toxic environment the OP was talking about.

All of this would be addressed if they added a normal raid and then an elite raid level, you know like x-amount of other MMOs out there.

I especially like the suggestion about trading Aetherium for an expedition through which you can earn supplies. It would be nice if you could trade a limited amount for favor as well.

My main guild is tiny and we are almost to level 20 now. We often have the mine sitting full and idle because it’s hard to get enough of us on at once to do missions, or to collect enough supplies quickly enough to keep up with the aetherium production. And we have 5000 storage but haven’t upgraded the rate past 2 yet, to avoid this as much as possible.

I know I feel like we have all this Aetherium and it almost feels like it’s being wasted, trading for favor is a good idea as well, or for resonance for speeding production queues.

I think the issue is the scarcity of lemongrass in general, I think there is like only 5 nodes in straights of devastation that are actually reliable spots to get it, even then unless you have multiple alts capable of farming the nodes you might only just get enough to make 1 food buff a day.

The alternative is of course doing what they did with so many other food ingredients and make them karma purchases, potentially as an alternative. Or just reduce the actual node cool down so you can farm it more than once every 12hrs.

Downfall of Gw2

Posted by: Sernius Alathar.6538

Sernius Alathar.6538

Hopefully you have realised this already and understand that people quit for this reason

No most players quit because they finished hot already or 95% of it.

And your quantitative data showing most players have stopped playing is where?

And your quantitative data showing most players haven’t stopped playing is where?

HoT’s three scenarios:

1) HoT is wildly successful. It’s attracted a huge, new player base, it’s the talk of the gaming community, servers have been added and the future of GW2 is secure.

2) Hot was meh. It brought in some new players, but also lost about the same amount. In this case, the game’s future is limited. HoT was not sold to it’s investors as a “wash” in revenue.

3) HoT has failed to expand the player base, and is losing players. It’s future is not secure (which might explain the lack of updates). It was a good 3 1/2 year run, but it’s pretty much all down hill from here.

You’d think that Anet would be shouting from the roof tops if the player base has grown tremendously or that it would be evident by having to add new servers, etc.

Which of the three scenarios is most likely?

I think this is an interesting point. I think one of the main issues is they have No Direction at all, they need to start reading players comments, and suggestions and actually confer with the community about what differing levels of players want.

They have pushed this weird F2P thing to probably try revitalize the community with new players, but really thats just a sugar hit of casuals. Some games have managed to revitalize there game by changing to a f2p model – Star Trek Online was on that was rebounding success.

They are trying to push esports which will never work, this game doesn’t have the framework to support esports – it has a simplistic pvp interface and game play system, it has exceedingly unstable servers that only benefit NA players, Oceanic players who incorporate everything from the south east asian region to Aus/NZ, which contrary to typical forum ignorance actually makes up a sizeable population in game can’t even play competitively in these tournaments due to terrible latency – with that in mind how can there be fair tournaments when there is no even playing ground.

They are competing to maintain either casual players, or veteran hardcore players. Yet make such woefully embarrassing design choices that make everyone question what drugs they are on e.g. Nightfury and Winter’s presence, the majority of HoT collections, anything requiring Crystalline ore. Even Hardcore players are struggling to maintain the rate of grind related content.

We have a gemstore that constantly increasing in price, and adding superfluous and useless items. All of which should be added to the game through legitimate means not just gems. Also anet please stop with 2 week turn around for BLTC weapon sets, your already making people burn gold with everything. These should be on a monthly turn around.

I am a vet player from GW1, and have been a staunch defender of GW2, but the design choices since the end of the living story before HoT have just absolutely been disastrous. The poorly designed story around HoT, the fiasco with GH upgrades, SCRIBING, Killing Dungeons, Abandonment of WvW, Tier 2 of every single legendary precursor journey, the blatant gold sinks in nearly every aspect of the expansion, the trend towards bank breaking collections. I am going to say 3. Hot was a disaster, and unless they do some rapid back peddling and reversal of content changes, they might not recover.

Suggestion: Guild Halls

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sernius Alathar.6538

Sernius Alathar.6538

So I have been working through upgrades with my relatively small guild since HoT launch, we had an unfortunate set back by having to remake a guild due to an inactive guild leader so we started from scratch. We have about 50 members and normally have about 10-12 active most of the time, we have managed to settle atm at guild level 30. I won’t focus on the negatives as that’s been done to death but rather what could make things better overall to the development of guilds. (In my and some other guild leaders opinions anyway)

I. Guild Costs – While I don’t like the need for 100’s and 1000’s of high quality matts, I do understand there need in some circumstances, namely the physical building upgrades. Where the real issue is, is in minor upgrades, alot of those are excessive and do not meet what could be considered reasonable for cost vs reward. The balancing of requirements should be heavily considered. And some upgrades should allow for more unlocks across the board.

e.g. PvP Arena Upgrades unlock cosmetic options at the deco merchant – Practice Dummies, or Targets etc. WvW, has Deco seige, or dolyaks etc. Tavern has naturally tavern related things.

II. NPC’s and Ambients – The guild halls are huge, and they are brilliant places to explore but they lack life, As our Guild Halls level up, maybe every 5 ranks we unlock a new upgrade that allows npcs to move into parts of the guild hall. Rep’s from the factions: Pact, Whispers, Priory etc. Maybe some thematic npc’s like scholars from the priory who’ve come to learn more about your guild hall. More Guild Initiative npc’s working around the place. More animals roaming about would be cool as well.

III. Bridging the separation between Guild Initiative and the Guild – As it stands the only thing we know about the Initiative is they are their to help us and vice versa with the development of the guild, but really game wise they don’t. A few ideas floated with a few fellow guild leaders was to actually tie participation/rewards into guild related activities and in the open world.

a) Guild Missions – Every Successful Guild Mission rewards the typical weekly reward, but also rewards a new Guild item: Guild Initiative Supply Crate. These crates allocate a random amount of supplies to existing upgrade requirements within the guild Treasury, You can get one of these each week from every guild mission you have done. Not only would it tie in the activity of the guild initiative to your guild progression it helps smaller guilds gain some much needed resources to continue with their progress. It’s a way for players to be rewarded for successfully doing guild missions, and reward individual guild success.

b) Guild Initiative Crates – These could also be made as a Permanent Extra Map Reward Bonus, we know the map reward system is broken down to a point tier system like spvp reward tracks, so with that in mind the crates could be awarded at the 50% and 100% marks of the entire track, this would replace the old influence system that used to exist before Guild Halls, and again a way for guild hall progress to be awarded for actual activity in game. Another way they could be awarded is as a random reward in World Boss Daily chests, but not 100% guaranteed just as a rare chance.

IV. Decorations – Decorations should be not tied to scribes entirely, exclusivity for a profession that currently is horribly implemented is not good enough, and IMO makes little sense. Decorations should be unlocked via guild level at the decoration merchant, and the costs should have variations, paying 40-50s for a wood box is ridiculous, and having no alternative to purchase is again an oversight.
e.g. Wooden Box – 5s or 5 Greenwood Planks.
Decorations should also be rare drops in the world, A rare chance to gain Trees/planters from harvesting and logging nodes. Available from some Event karma vendors, or heart vendors. Rare drops from World Boss Chests as well.

V. Guild Boosts – Once a Boost is unlocked make it a permanent Boost upgrade, this is how it was implemented before, we all worked to unlock and utilise these upgrades we should be rewarded with the permanent boosts they supply.

VI. Aetherium Uses – For smaller guilds one of the big noticeable things is the pool of Aetherium not being used, we have had ours capped for a few days now, and the stretch between upgrades is not small. One idea was to use Aetherium as a currency to order/buy expeditions from the Guild Initiative. The Basic idea would be that you would have 2 expedition slots in your guild interface for expeditions, you can then buy depending on how much aetherium you want to use short/Medium/Extended Expeditions for resource. So say 2.5k, 5k, 10k Aetherium, and an expedition will be mounted for a certain period of time.

As an example:

Small Expedition – 2.5k Aetherium – 1day. One Expedition slot is used and after a day you will receive rewards from the small expedition. Reward: [Small Crate of Supplies/1 Random Decoration]

Medium Expedition – 5k Aetherium – 3 days. One Expedition slot is used and after 3 days you will receive rewards from the expedition. Reward: [Medium Crate of Supplies/3 Random Decorations]

Extended Expedition – 10k Aetherium – 7 days. Two Expedition slots used, and after 7 days you will receive rewards from the expedition. Reward: [Heavy Crate of Supplies/5 Random Decorations]

VII. Decoration Limit – A small thing, but remove the limitation for the amount of items in a specific spot, some players like to play SIMS: GW2 edition and make random things out of decos, remove limitations. I found when making 1 of the 2 JP’s we have in our GH some things were a bit frustrating when we hit deco caps for like more than 5 things.

Hopefully some of these are ideas worth considering, as much as I like the guild halls, and so do the guild leaders I confer with, some more QoL changes would make it much more reasonable.

The obvious solution would be racial legends wouldn’kitten Just one per race, hardly unreasonable.

Charr – Pyre Fierceshot, or Kalla Scorchrazer
Asura – Snaff, Gadd or Vekk
Sylvari – Tougher but Killeen could be a good candidate
Norn – Jora, Magni the Bison, Olaf Olaffson, or Svanir
Human – Nick the traveler (lol), Kormir, Evennia or Livia (assuming they are dead)

Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

I don’t mind the event, but as others said:

— Mob density too low, and hp pool way too low, you have to be a guardian with a loot stick to tag anything, even then you can still miss it if you aren’t lucky. Perhaps after every event – spawn a legendary mordrem like in Silverwastes: Demolisher/Annihilator etc.

— Rewards aren’t clear, I’ve read x-amount of player messages in map chat “we get x-blooms from x-stacks” and mostly it’s wildly inaccurate. They could improve this by doing something similar to a break bar on the map, and everyone is rewarded based on the total events completed on the map as opposed to how many you run and tag, a bit like how the scarlett meta reward was, as you progressed through waves, the rewards became better as fighting intensified, culminating in a boss fight. The bar fills up, when full – starts a new bar, reward level increases.

— Reward players per event, or as stated above, when a legendary spawns when it dies the loot chest contains blooms, another incentive to stay on your event. Remove the daily bloom cap, if players want to play your exclusive content all day long, don’t punish them by capping or limiting the blooms they get from it, that is completely unnecessary. Also increase the bloom reward for meta completion.

— Make mobs drop loot, or at least champ and above, players don’t want to do x-amount of hours of this event and not be rewarded. If it is targeting new players as well, the lack of exp, or individual event reward can be a real turn off.

Anyway, good luck improving the event, I have D/C 3 times now so unfortunately I will be opting out.

BWE2 - Herald Feedback

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sernius Alathar.6538

[These are my personal opinions, and experiences – Overall my weapons of choice for this beta were sword/axe and Hammer, with Shiro and Herald Legends. My opinions are tailored around the primary use of those selections. ]

So this weekend I decided to play primarily one dedicated specialisation class to get a better feel of the class and play style as opposed just playing them all for an hour or two, i chose to go with the Herald.

From the start let me just say, well done. The revenant is at a state that it can easily be implemented into the game as it is and immediately playable. It feels well balanced in the respect that you can play it like any of the primary classes with the same benefits and drawbacks that each class may have. It is the most complete specialisation and the most worked on, and you can tell with the attention to detail. The gameplay is smooth and the transitions between legends and weapons is excellent. I have only found some minor issues with the class.

With Regards to the Herald alot of people have cried OP, but frankly it’s not, it’s a term used too loosely by players who touch a class for 5m and see features they don’t normally have on their main and want, after testing revenant in a few dungeons, fractals, PvE in varying maps and extensively through Verdant Brink as iterated above i find it well balanced.

Herald skills are quite nice, and I like that with variations in energy costs it lets you have a few different support or offense options for your party or for solo roaming.

- Facet of Light gives you a nice passive regen, not as strong as elementalist water attunement heal, or warrior passive but makes up for it with Infuse Light. Infuse light gives you the benefit of Defiant stance which in tough melee situations can be used to escape out of bad situations and reset yourself so that you can fight again. It has the drawback of not being an immediate burst heal which can be costly in high condition situations but overrall if used in the right way can keep you fighting fit. (someone told me it should be the same duration as defiant stance, but it’s an ELITE specialisation, i think they can get away with 1 extra second of uptime)

- Facet of Darkness is an interesting offensive support buff, there is not many classes that can support a party with fury besides elementalist. As much as fury is useful, especially with the trait increasing crit chance to 40%, I found it more useful with it’s secondary effect causing aoe blind and force revealing. HoT has it’s fair share of new enemies that use a stealth mechanic to escape forced melee encounters. While fury is useful, with -2 energy degen cost I personally prefer to opt for might and regeneration as support for my party, especially as for the time being the meta is still zerk-centric and base crit chance tends to already be high.

- Facet of Elements is the revenants obligatory speed buff, most classes have a passive speed buff and this is it for revenant, it has the added bonus of pulsing swiftness for people around you too, will be quite good for guild rush escorts in the future. Now it’s secondary is one of the few Herald abilities that can hit for some condition damage, Elemental Blast adds a nice level of mitigation for melee combat (weakness and Chill), especially useful for sword/axe users such as myself.

- Facet of Strength is a great mid range party buffer, I found it’s about half as effective as PS/EA warrior or a might stack Ele, but for small encounters it can sit you passively at about 9-11 might, 11-15 in combat. (Factoring in Strength Runes, and Strength sigils). It’s more like engineer’s Juggernaut ability with party wide pulsing. It’s a good balance, and with -2 energy cost it keep it’s balance by making it a little more costly to maintain. It’s secondary effect Burst of Strength is a bit lackluster, damage +weakness, but there really is no incentive to use it, if it was damage x might stack level, + weakness duration x might stack level. It would probably be more of a functional burst skill, as it stands it’s better to maintain the might.

Facet of Chaos [Elite] – This needs to be reworked completely, it’s the only facet that feels unusable as a maintainable facet with it’s -5 cost, it should probably be reduced to -2 like might and fury to be on par, as it stands atm facet of chaos is basically double activated to use Chaotic Release. Envoy of Exuberance does a better job of providing protection and a heal. As for the Burst, Chaotic Release, very nice CC, not over the top damage wise, and is excellent for bunching up a group of enemies for a spike, interrupting skills on a large scale or just clearing them from allies to help rally.

Facet of Nature (Utility Facet) – TBH, this isn’t really needed. I didn’t find myself using this facet in any situation, 50% boon duration isn’t really needed when you’re primary facets pulse their boons to be maintained. It needs to be reworked as it currently has no place on the bar apart from decoration, or to burst One with Nature for some quick boons. It could probably be easily removed from the bar completely without any afterthought.

Traits wise – Herald trait line is quite reasonable, a good combination of traits for the offensive or defensive player.

One note regarding the Roiling Mists trait, perhaps a change in the tooltip, to show effective % chance increase to fury. Alot of people have been crying out that it is OP without considering the actual wording of the trait line.

: Critical-hit chance has increased effectiveness when you are under the effect of fury.
Effectiveness Increased: 100% :

I have actually read more than one map chat person saying that revenants get 100% crit. When in reality if you read the text it increases fury effectiveness by 100%, meaning 2x the crit chance. If your base crit chance is 20% the trait increases it by 20% (hence 100% effectiveness), resulting in a base crit chance of 40%. For those saying revenant gets 100%, with full zerk armor and this trait, base crit sat about 45.9% crit. Compared to elementalists, thieves or warriors this is actually quite low.

Weapons wise, there isn’t really much to say, Shield provides a bulwark for defence. And the rest have been covered in the last beta.

With regards to PvP, I will always support class mechanics being split between PvP and PvE like they did in GW1 because the things that players want in PvE are vastly different to that of those in a PvP perspective. Nerfing based on the pvp vocal minority is not intelligent design.

Overall well done anet on the Herald and firming up the revenant for release, an excellent class that I can see replacing my primary class for in the game.

Stress test was really good. Wasn’t really anything I found buggy, very enjoyable. I did notice a few people in map chat confused or lost on how to maintain or use glider.

Perhaps when coming across some content that has a connection to the mastery system, have a tooltip that pops up to say “[insert mastery] may help in this place” or “specialising in [mastery] can help you progress further”. It took me a few minutes to realise that chucking 1 point into gliding made getting to the wyvern infinitely easier.

Apart from that looks good.

I have to request a refund now for Pheonix Armor, and Flamekissed Light Armor. Not to mention the value of the dyes (midnight ice, Celestial) amongst other stuff.

Scrambles you don’t listen to any argument, or opinion but your own. There has been many arguments for and against, I respect your opinion, but I disagree with it being implemented in PvE. Lore and Continuity wise it makes no sense outside an arena, we are not a bunch of highway bandits randomly attacking each other, the story of the game is sooo far divorced from open world duelling it just wouldn’t make sense.

Arenas is a viable option, GW1 has arenas in towns and cities for pvp, or if its PvE why not a contest arena like with Magni the Bison and the Bison Cup in GW1. You fight random brawls with enemies, instead add the occassional pvp match too, that way even if there is not many duellers, u still have something to do or fight and u get rewarded for it.

Again I will say PvE is not the place for Open-duelling, there’s a niche for it somewhere, but not in the field.

How would you limit disruption to the game? Say your in the middle of Orr with risen around? Would risen be open to attack you? Or would you be sealed away? Is there a defined time? defined area? defined parameters? Exclusivity? What prevents players from exploiting the feature if it removes them from the PvE environment for X-amount of time.

The biggest question as well – To what outcome do you wish to achieve? A system such as this would not have rewards, and shouldn’t have rewards, so whats the outcome? What can you achieve in PvE duelling that you cannot in a modified way in Spvp or WvW, where you actually get rewarded?

Here is an idea for you Scrambles, why don’t you form your own Duelling Guild, advertise in LA or WvW. Form your group of buddies, and create your own customised arena in the mists. Then you can hash it out with as many people as you like, it’s not hard, its not time consuming I tested out the feature myself. The game is divided into 3 sub-sections PvE (Player vs Environment), sPvP (structured Player vs Player), and WvWvW (World vs World vs World) just defining for you so I can be clear. PvE is not the gaming sub section for duelling, there is a place within the PvP side of the game for it to exist you just need to be more creative, and IF you can’t find a place for it there, then your obviously not thinking laterally. I will concede there is one/two possibilities in my mind where a Duelling Arena could be implemented without interruption to other players, and that would be the Queen’s Gauntlet or possibly the arena at the bottom of the black citadel.

Enable an auto-join 1v1 duel arena function into the lfg, and use the gauntlet as the battlefield. Otherwise, just use the tournament 1v1 in the mists to stroke your own egro and brag about your kitten. This will allow players who WANT to duel a location to do it, Instead of sending out requests every seven steps.

IMO: You are thinking about a global game change to satisfy your own pk inclination, you need to think smaller, because I do not believe for a second the population of open-duellers is as high as you claim it to be.

e.g.

– Characters over level 20 gain 10-20 levels.

I have played this game since beta and have constantly wondered about why armor is so ridiculously limited. There is an x-amount of comments for and against it, but you know what, if my character is a human and wears an asuran variant armor, are you going to care? Does it effect how YOU play the game, or are you just QQ’ing because I have armor similar to you. Reality is we have a very limited armor pool, new armors are just reworked, or quite frankly hideous. I can guarantee though that no-one in the game but me has the exact combination of pieces and dyes that I have on my characters. So who does it hurt to diversify our armor choices? No-one.

On the talk of factional benefits, bring on a gw1 style of rewards or tiers of rewards. We have the order of whispers, pact, durmand priory, and vigil. As well as the races. Been waiting for it to come along.

“We need more mature content with blood and death. These festivals are a joke and are very annoying” {asking for more mature content when you can’t even type a simple sentence is not a good idea}

Festivals are fine; GW1 had a long history of events: Halloween, Wintersday, Canthan New Year, Dragon Festival, Sweet Treats Weekend (easter), even events like Talk like a Pirate Day, they added something fun to do. They implemented a rotation system for weekend events that added bonuses as well e.g. Lucky Weekend gave triple lockpick drops or reputation weekends where you gained double the normal reputation points.

At the moment we are in the real first year of the game, and I’m sure they want to get as many of the primary festivals sorted as possible, then once done they will only need to implement smaller changes each year to make the new festivals different from the last. It’s about laying the framework for seasonal or recurring events so give em a break, you don’t HAVE to participate. I can see why they would want to get these all out of the way so they can focus on more story driven content.

I have been outspoken about how the lore in guild wars 2 is shallow and meaningless compared to guild wars 1, mainly because I have always been quite enraptured by the depth and scope of story they gave us, it is a tremendous disappointment that we have no expansion on existing lore, no answers to questions promised us, and a personal story that alienates the player from the game, BUT they are improving.

*Currently we are focusing alot on the sub-groups in the game first the molten alliance, which talks about the alliance between the dredge and flame legion and I expect will lead towards Primordus content.

  • We have been introduced to the alliance between the Aetherblades and Inquest which could lead anywhere as they have information relating to all the Elder Dragons, most noted at Crucible of Eternity.

*We currently have an unknown collusion going on in Brisban Wildlands between multiple groups including The Inquest, The Nightmare Court and bandit forces. With references lately about the new Jungle Elder Dragon, we may find what force is behind the creation of the Nightmare Court, we know from gw1 that the centaurs themselves knew about a dragon in the maguuma, as well as the existence of rotscale, so there is more to be expanded here.

*We have only had a brief bit of information about the Lagos, Krait and Quaggan incursion into Tyria from the deep seas. The Lagos speak of troubles and darkness from the depths, that is why they are in Tyria to train for its eventuality. This could lead us to the Ocean dwelling Elder Dragon.

  • The Zephyr Sanctum and its revelations about Glint and the Crystal desert could lead us to exploration there. We have a big door in Ebonhawke that leads to the Crystal Desert. This opens up content towards Elona, the Mordent Crescent, Palawa Joko, and of course Kralkatorrik.
  • The only content we currently haven’t really gotten is with relation to the Kodan, Norn and Jormag. I expect to see a Living story release soon in relation to it.

*FInally we need some living story/continuation of Orr. The fall of Zhaitan opens up alot of content on Orr and in Arah alone. We especially need a follow on from the conversation in the Cathedral of Silence with one of the Reapers of Grenth. WHY are the gods silent.

That is alot of content, lore, designs, concepts to create, so festivals and minor living story content is a welcome addition, just enjoy it.

I think people are overreacting a bit here about champs, hold off the criticism shall we till we actually know what drops in one of these chests. As for champions dropping these chests I think its a great idea, even if its level capped loot, its about encouraging players to work through events again because really to get to a champion event you have to finish the other events around it. I am hoping that these champ chests will be offered in dungeons too so we stimulate dungeon runs again. [BTW thankgod for the Path reward system changes, I am sick of seeing posts in lfg like “SC CoF lvl80’s Warr zerkers only, dont waste my time” rude and obnoxious speed clearers are the worst players in the game]

Universal tokens = bad idea ~ this thread has been around for awhile, and its just basically a lazy way for players to get rarer armor/weapon skins.

DR – Needs to be removed. Players shouldn’t be penalized for playing the way they want to play. If I want a legendary weapons and need 250 of every t6 material why should I be punished for farming those materials? “GW2 is designed for players to play the way they want to play” but why is it only what they deem is playing the game, they have taken the time factor out of the game by making it impossible for us to work hard for gear we want.

Thieves and Mesmers

I’m not sure I agree on another nerf for mesmers, they cop alot of flak. Mesmers are meant to be masters of misdirection you break that flow and you break the class, we have already had phantasms nerfed (line of sight etc) and our focus skills and reflection abilities harshly dealt with.

Thieves haven’t been dealt with however, I play thief and can stay perma stealthed through blindness or stealth skills. It’s what it’s designed to be though, a thief plays like a warr is just a warr, minor stealth nerf perhaps +non stacking stealth buffs or longer forced visibility would make it a little less i suppose irritating.

The biggest nerf needs to come to warriors, every update they get a boost to a skill or ability, they just spam hundred blades and your down. It’s ridiculous. Leave mesmers out because unless you play it, you can’t call it OP.

[My personal opinion is that no class is really OP, a player playing there class and knowing there class well doesn’t make it OP, it just means they are playing better than you.]

Resettling of Orr

in Lore

Posted by: Sernius Alathar.6538

Sernius Alathar.6538

I suppose it would depend primarily on the dissipation of residual Necromatic energies from Zhaitan that would affect the surrounding land, it may last longer or shorter even depending on how the latent energies from the artesian well effect it.

Do the Risen remain animated? Only the Generals of Zhaitan had their own sense of sentience because the spirits of the Kings and Queens of Orr were bound to them. (though I do hesitate on that as they stated the Eyes where, but not the Mouths). Traditional Lich’s are created by the creatures own necromatic energy hence being able to continue their own existence (Rotscale, Palawa Joko and Vizier Khilbron to a minor degree as examples).

The unilateral agreement created by the Orders would allow for more resources to help clean up the risen now, and the new anti-necromatic technology created by the Pact I imagine the clean up wont take so long. It will then be a case of Who uncovers the history and the rest of the secrets of Orr, in this case I would imagine it would be the Orders over any Civilian form of authority.

I like this post, and fully support it XD. The idea your suggesting is very similar to the way Guild Wars 1 had the Zaishen Daily Board, and the War in Kryta bounty Board.

Basically everyday you would get 4 tasks you could complete for extra exp/platinum/zaishen coins.

1. Zaishen Mission: Which was basically doing one of the story missions again, easily able to be implemented for renown hearts or # of renown hearts on a certain map.

2. Zaishen Bounty: Guild Wars 1 bosses were nearly all named, unlike gw2 where the breakdown is based on ranks. You would be given a certain boss to kill and got rewarded for terminating it, something like that could be changed to suit GW2 as well.

3. Zaishen Combat: Is basically your pvp daily.

4. Zaishen Vanquish: Which is a map completion.

If you goto the GW1 wiki, you can see what sorts of things they had to choose from for daily sort of events, which could be easily implemented into GW2.

I used to love making enemies into walking time bombs lining up Putrid Bile, Rising Bile, and Icy Veins and watching them go boom for heavy AoE damage. What if they added a new condition for necromancers based on the Volatility of certain skill initiators, re-introduce the Elite Skill – Icy Veins that causes direct Frost damage to an enemy but lays in a 15-sec Curse initiator, when the enemy dies the skill activates and detonates the chill/damage AoE finisher.

I would personally love to see a weapon template for curses back, with a form of skills based on certain triggers like stated above. At the moment necromancers are all about Wells.
