No longer invulnerable when downed

This, you should be heavily punished for entering downstate,

You are heavily punished. You’re suck on the ground with limited abilities, no way to evade, block, or otherwise defend yourself.

Scrapper and SNR rezzing are outliers, moreover the change doesn’t fix either of those, the change just makes it enormously difficult for other classes to rez.

Yeah until there’s a gyro on u and an engi, ressing u with anti projectile field, stability, probably stealth, and all while ur invulnerable. It doesn’t matter if they are outliers, they were SPECIFICALLY chosen to abuse this mechanic. There should never be “free res” ever plain and simple. Your team should be supporting you BEFORE you go down, not after. U think its ok to be able to res through 3+ peoples cleave? with 1 person? I personally dont.

I played Gyro Cleric Scrapper full spec to REZ through Cleave.

It was possible versus 3 cleaving 2 seasons ago. Now, it’s not possible anymore with Mender amulet. (they nerf instant cast on heal, stealth, no more daze on gyro destroy, no more invuln on body, no more toughness from cleric.

Since, gyro can’t DAZE while destructed… if I rez 1 versus a cleave of 3, your 3 can’t focus fire or are annoyed by some peelz from my awesome team mate.

Actually, scrapper got nerf engouh that versus 1 good player, I can’t rez 1 anymore with all my gyros tricks…

This means, that I put scrapper off my awesome REZZER support build and I switch to DH mender for when I want to REZ like a God. (plz consider that both where not meta build, fine tune to rez like GOD because this is my favorite play style, where I played Bunker Guard with runes of Mercy.)

Unfortunetaly for me, it’s way harder to be the best rezzer in the game than before, but it’s still possible to get better and be able to do, what others can’t.

But at equal skill level, rezzing in a 1v2 situations is most probably a failed attempted that can get fix with a second rezzer or CCer. Without that, I will peel half though my tricks to rez.

Being possible to Rez someone with 3 cleaving players , and resign someone before the invuln frames were completed was total bs and should not have been a thing to begin with. This was one of the best decisions Anet could have implemented in Pvp, and there is counteplay to Guardian rezzes in the form of stability and Aoe cleave since the Guardian can’t put Rez cleavers as effectively as Engie pre patch.

That game gave you different choices and build to make something working.

To be the best rezzer of the game meant you can’t kill anyone even in 2v1 if your other mate was a bad dps or something.

That time is gone. We don’t have choices anymore because people think they are the only “right” around while other are not. It’s so OP to not being able to kill anyone with a bunker build, right? (that crowd…)

Sorry, but the game I did love was a game of FREE choice that was balanced in a comp versus comp game.

Each year, that FREE choice is reducing a lot, the balanced between options are messed up and the game offer way less different playstyle than before.

The game is dying from the QQ their own users do, while it should be grow by their user saying out loud how it is great to play…

But not… losers are always more vocal than players.

Chain-resurrecting does not lend to an exciting gameplay experience.
Perma bunking does not lend to an exciting gameplay experience.

These apply to both the players and any potential spectators.

In the last meta, teams were actually punished for pushing Necromancers into downstate in fights with a Scrapper around. The Necromancer would be resurrected before its invulnerability state ended, would come up with a free condition clear from dropping initially, the enemies would be grouped up and they would be able to counter-pressure dazed opponents off the rez by baiting cooldowns before the downstate and holding their own.

To echo previous sentiments, teams and players should be rewarded for getting their opponents into the downstate in the form of relieving pressure, not punished by potentially creating even more.

There are still efficient avenues available for power-rezzing teammates under cleave and to assume that there isn’t still layers to the complexity of the downstate game is ignorant.

I’m really happy with this change and I’m looking forward to what it will bring to the competitive tier in the near future.

Where's PvE Superior Sigil of Transference?

It’s currently unavailable due to the missing (read: maybe bugged?) recipe for Resonating Fragments that are required to advance Scribes to a level at which they could make these. Once Resonating Fragments are craftable or obtainable by any means, then these will become more widely available.

Enhanced Squad UI: Update

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: SgtJanitor.3164

SgtJanitor.3164

Is there any information regarding boon sharing priorities within a single squad?
Will it prioritize members of the same subgroup or will it be based on proximity and other factors such as before party priorities existed?

Ideally the Enhanced Squad UI represents the possibility for large groups to organize a larger macrocosm into self-sufficient entities in order to culminate into one single organized group. However, if there is a disconnect in such a core necessity for a successful group as boon control, the purpose is then lost.

Subgroups being the priority for boonshare is ideal so that squads can be organized based upon boon/effect necessities (Guardians with other melee to grant Stability in encounters where it is deemed necessary, Mesmers with professions who benefit greatly from alacrity and quickness, etc.).

If this has already been addressed, I apologize.

How do I edit the team roster? One of my players on my team can no longer play.

If you could submit any roster changes to one of our TO’s, preferably Justin at jczech@digitalprosports.com, that would be the quickest and easiest way to sort that out.

Stronghold GvG?

in PvP

Posted by: SgtJanitor.3164

SgtJanitor.3164

I am a Shoutcaster of PvP events for DPS, long time player of PvP and a frequent GvG’er for several top guilds in the past (VoTF, APeX, TheD, TA).

The GvG gametype (as in, the current community-developed and community-driven 15v15/20v20 Annihilation practiced in WvW, particularly in the Obsidian Sanctum instance) is actually very much a skill-based PvP gametype, just as all PvP is. Guild fights nowadays (granted, only at the very peak of top guilds, as other guilds are still learning and adapting) require very high levels of individual microcosmic mechanical knowledge to converge into and coordinate with a larger macrocosmic team strategy. There is a lot that goes into what happens in the OS (however, admittedly much less in the Borderlands), and FocusParty/Pick/Gank side fights that occur are generally 2 groups of high burst, low survivability classes pitted against one another, essentially a playerskill vs playerskill fight, much like you would see in PvP in a fight for a point (because both groups must also consider the point cap in PvP and their casters’ level of protection in GvG throughout their engagement) than what a typical person might expect.

However, the gametype does have its faults as aforementioned. This game in general, even in 5v5, is not conducive to being an easily digested spectator game because of the way the combat is designed and displayed on screen. It’s tough to see things like boon rotations, applied conditions, and even a lot of the individual skills being used by individual players. At 15v15 and especially 20v20, this is exacerbated exponentially. Not to mention, none of the things I highlighted in the previous paragraph are even remotely noticeable to someone without the prior knowledge and eye for that sort of thing.

I agree with Chaith, though, in that there is no reason for players of the current community-driven gametype to be emotional over the introduction of this new PvP game mode being titled as “GvG”. This was made for PvP players and is honestly very refreshing. As a shoutcaster, the thought of casting more gametypes in the near future after two years of Conquest is enticing to say the very least. Sure, its not the GvG that everyone expected, but its just 3 letters being applied to something and has no bearing on the future of the community-driven gametype. While I would love to see an official 15v15/20v20 Annihilation gametype, it just is not that time — yet. Perhaps with Guild Halls being announced, there is now hope for Guild Arenas capable of holding scrimmages of this kind.

That being said, why can’t current GvG’ers consider playing this as well? There is no reason, in my mind, to pigeonhole yourself from all this game has to offer. With everything that is being brought on display in this coming expansion and more opportunities for heavy competition coming to fruition, why not explore all of the potential?

I really love the concept of this gametype, I will definitely play it and I hope it does very well.

It’s also worth it to mention that, on top of everything Justin just stated, because members of the team Evil Villains Love Hoes all have a very static standing in their ratings, their scoring is very similar and fairly high, placing their average closer to the top because of the consistency of the individual ratings.

This is similar, albeit to a lesser degree, to the team Apex Prime. The team has a very consistent roster and as such does not suffer from deviation due to missing roster slots or inconsistencies.
Without going much into it, mathematically, it pays to stick together as a team just as much as it pays to have a completed roster for signups.

Personally, Im excited for a returning TDM. A slightly dif roster but a group of high level players that havent been around recently returning to the game? Had some of those players been at the MP weeklies or the ToL2 this summer, I wouldnt have been surprised if they were rated higher. Q4 is just as packed as the Q3

Yeah and that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
Looking at Qualifier #1 and #2 this weekend, you have:
Hashtag Believe with names like Avitori & Necitor and other very accomplished players
Sharks With Lazers, a team that has been fighting for recognition with loads of fervor
Olrun’s Team Teamwork
Europe and Asia, a reformation of NA ToL2 combatants, Japan Thailand Croatia
Night Shade in June, a dominating force in NA Team Queue
Radioactive, one of the most dominating and prolific teams queuing recently
Arkangeles, NA ToL2 Top 8 Finalist
Evil Villains with Marvin and members from a top team in ToL2
Cognitive Gaming with Backpack, winner of ToL2 and The People’s 2v2 Tournament
Seraphs of Fortuna, Lux Fortuna’s team

And even still, there are more that deserve to be talked about!

Can’t wait to see how it all unfolds this weekend

Also, to address the byes in the preliminary rounds:
In order to cultivate an even distribution of teams across all qualifier dates and present a fair and honest bracket system, we decided it was mutually beneficial to everyone to move the top teams forward through the bracket as they would have already and give teams that are otherwise not established an opportunity for higher placement and potential to win prizes.

Regardless of scheduling, I am certain that you guys will be quite surprised at how cutthroat this thing is going to get in these qualifiers. Having done extensive research on every single team with any sort of history in competitive PvP in Guild Wars 2, I am absolutely stoked for some otherwise unknown teams to potentially come up and beat down some of the teams we have become familiar with as of late.

Before every qualifier, I will be doing a “Teams To Look Out For” segment to touch on a few of these standouts that most people may not have known about otherwise.
(Examples of these types of teams: No Clue, Angelic Synergy / Team Holy, etc.)

One of the most pedantic and difficult challenges we faced when setting up this particular tournament up was coming up with a way to create a fair and balanced bracket. In order to address this, we employed an array of seamless, interconnected and automated parsing applications that have the sole collective purpose of generating an artificial rating for every competitive player on every competitive team since the first Tournament of Legends. These individual ratings are then compiled with the other players on each competing team and averaged to create a comprehensive team rating. For each team that had members that had not previously participated in the known competitive PvP environment, we decided on a very pragmatic approach: pull all known data on each individual in regard to Team Queue history, Solo Queue history, known associations through team histories and anything else we could learn about the individual, and then we processed that information into a data stream that would collect it, parse it and requite an operational figure for us to compare with the already ranked individuals.

However, the beauty of the system is what follows: its efficacy for all future endeavors. Since the system is written to have the ability to pull data from brackets and adjust figures through the intrinsic algorithms therein as tournaments are played out, the ratings will adjust dynamically.

This process will now effectively seed teams outside of the top 8-12, relinquishing the necessity for random seeding for unestablished teams in large tournaments that can sometimes lead to unfair matchups being played early in the tournament and teams missing out on a chance for a better placing that they deserved.

In order to ensure your team gets good seeding for future tournaments run by Digital Pro Sports, it is in your best interest, and I personally behoove you, to become as active as possible in the competitive scene. The more data we can throw at the system, the more accurate the ratings will be.

So, without further adieu, the brackets for the first qualifier for the much anticipated North American Tournament of Glory:

September 13th
September 14th

Good luck, teams; we look forward to watching you carve your names into GW2 eSports history.

APeX Prime is currently recruiting highly skilled individuals with an interest in coordinated and demanding PvP play in the WvW / GvG environment.

About APeX

APeX exists as a highly prestigious convergence of talented and elite gamers. The concept of APeX was founded on a highly competitive approach to gaming. In fostering that approach we will harbor an unequivocal culture of excellence and aspire to be a superlative team of well-rounded players.

APeX Prime’s focus is foremost to be the absolute pinnacle of PvP/GvG guilds in Guild Wars 2. To achieve this, we will train together in order to develop cohesion and learn together to enhance our individual skill levels. Furthermore, APeX aims to be a medium for longstanding friendships and to be a welcoming home to like-minded individuals looking to better themselves and their team members.

Most importantly, we seek to be the perfect balance of a highly-skilled team and a genuinely fun environment. While APeX Prime does focus on an elite level of play, we do not have any desire for attitudes that are derived from elitism. Enjoying ourselves and each other is just as much of a priority as winning.

We are currently an up-and-coming, top WvW/GvG guild in North America, working towards bettering ourselves at every opportunity.
First place winners of the Guild Wars 2 North American Tournament of Legends.

Recruitment Information

Consistent raids at 6pm PST, 5-6 days a week.
Frequent, if not weekly, trainings, both individual and team based, to help you build your individual skill set and develop a cohesion within the group.
To be part of a well balanced and open-minded team where everyone has a voice.
Full transparency. Members will be aware of things that are happening within the guild and all of the things we are involved in.
A leadership team with experience in leading large and influential guilds since the launch of GW2.
Very knowledgeable and skilled teammates and leaders. These individuals have extensive experience in the competitive scene for Guild Wars 2 as well as numerous other games.

As a member of APeX, we expect:
100% rep during raid times.
An age of 18+.
Frequent, if not daily, raid attendance (this will be determined on a case by case basis, but individuals who do not attend frequently do not fit with what we are trying to accomplish, and will be removed from the guild).
A high level of maturity and respect for others. Flagrant intolerance will in turn be met by flagrant intolerance.
An openness to direction in terms of play, builds, etc.
Absolutely no whining. Complaints are just veiled excuses for poor play and will not be tolerated. We will take any loss or handicaps with dignity and never slander our opponents because of them.
Full communication during raids. APeX requires the use of TeamSpeak to communicate with each other. Communication on the field is highly imperative.
A commitment to the mission of APeX and dedication to the guild.

The Counter Comp to Apex

in PvP

Posted by: SgtJanitor.3164

SgtJanitor.3164

This sort of thinking can only improve the quality of matches. I love Guild Wars 2 pvp because it allows for this kind of “game planning” and adjustments between each game of a set. I hope to see teams trying to out scheme each other, much like in real sports. Personally, I think the decap engy may be a counter to Apex. Tho I’d love to hear Apex’s thoughts on that :P. If you add a decap engy to KPz’s comp tho, what would you drop?

Decap engi can go either way to be honest. The decap engi simply will not have the damage output to singlehandedly take out Chubbs Z / Day 1v1. There is far too much condi clear, burst heal and impromptu repositions / low cd stun breakers in the build for it to be taken down without mechanical errors on the elementalist’s part or a pretty kitten talented engineer.
The decap engi would thrive in the 1v1, but the point of the APeX comp is not “1v1s”. In the end, a rotation would be called after all personal sustain on that point has been relinquished and, without reliable stability, that engi would, in most cases, be trained down unfortunately.

A decap engi could, however, be an interesting beginning to an approach of several changes that could potentially counter this composition. I implore everyone to queue up and try new things to find what works best for them! As I stated before, there is a counter to everything, you just have to be willing to find it.

Regards,
Heurix – APeX Prime Leader

Err…the point of a decap engi wouldn’t be to kill chubbs, it would be to toss him off point until the engi full capped the point, which would be pretty easy to do…. however, apex could just outfit a warrior capable of killing a decap engi 1v1 on node with lots of stability…

That’s true, but as I stated, with “burst heal and impromptu repositions / low cd stun breakers”, you aren’t really going to be knocking that build off node any more than he knocks himself off in any other matchup.
But even disregarding Chubbs, there are many ways to counter that decap engi without changing the comp we are already running at all.

@KarsaiB

To add to what Morfeus said a few posts above, what happened with the private scrimmage is definitely on us, probably myself more so than the team. When we asked if we could record it on a stream and you all said it was fine, we left it unlisted and private: the only way you could see what was on it was if you had been given the direct link. We only did this so we could use it as a template for bettering the team against one of the biggest oppositions in the game. The score itself nor the contents of the stream were never given to anybody other than your team and ours, as well as one or two people in our guild. We don’t know how or why, but at some point the link got leaked and I shut the recording down immediately and hid the broadcast, deleting it as soon as I exported it to my hard drive to use for our original intention.

NA has always been a cesspool for drama (see: Manvil Rock glory days). I do not know how the shoutcasters got their hands on the results of a one-sided private scrimmage (due to the EU lag being a huge limiting factor in fights), but I apologize for us not taking the necessary action to assure that it remained private as we all wanted. Once it was stated by the shoutcasters, NA trolls went wild and blew it out of proportion, something else you deserve an apology for. If nothing else, please be reminded that because of this, we were also detrimentally affected. Our builds and splits were stolen, in part, from this leak and it did hurt us in some of the rounds in our ToL as well.

Please seek out myself or any member of the team and I’m sure we can elaborate on what happened and better come to an understanding as a united collective.

And again, the utmost of apologies to you and your team. What happened is unforgivable and we had no intentions of this occurring, both for ourselves as well as out of respect for you all.

What do you mean by “nothing dies”?

If you go back and watch the matches, the average death count in the APeX matches were almost identical to that of the EU finals.
Take Game 3 on Khylo as an example. The kill counts were as follows:

EU
TCG – 14
55HP – 7

NA*
APeX – 14
KPz – 8
*GG was called with 1:40 left, so there was still room for more kills to be obtained by either side.

So… please elaborate because I must have watched a different tournament than you did. :/

The Counter Comp to Apex

in PvP

Posted by: SgtJanitor.3164

SgtJanitor.3164

Everything has, and should have, a counter.
We hope people find it so we can adapt and create some interesting counter play.

If you think about it in terms of other successful eSports games, we’ll take the MOBA genre as an example, no team limits themselves to one particular set. As the compositions are chosen and champions are selected, counters emerge and it creates an interesting sort of sub-game based on the ideology of what the Japanese call “yomi”.

I want nothing more than for this community to realize that ‘meta gameplay’ is not based upon one single composition. What we did, and have done for even months prior to the tournament, worked so well because it, in a roundabout fashion, countered what everybody considered to be ‘the meta’. The typical team setup focuses on winning 1v1’s at far and spreading condition pressure throughout the middle and home nodes with one or two burst roamers. We countered this by putting in a talented player on a spec that can win virtually any duel to watch that single/double players’ pressure at our home point. We then focused on creating situations where we have the upper hand on the other 2 nodes. With the support roles in the game that for whatever reason people did not see or are too afraid to touch because it isn’t an allstar AP/AD carry type role, we took full advantage.

Our teamfights are hard to beat because we have a plethora of perfectly executed support and any situation we were not prepared for can easily be resolved by a quick rotation from one of the players as, with our comp, there is enough sustainability through hours of practicing mechanics in both 1v1 and 1v2 situations for a rotation to be communicated and executed in time to save that player and win the point.

It is not overpowered. There are counters. Threads like this make me very happy and I hope a good discussion will be had here regarding how to beat certain compositions.

Remember: there is no best way to do things. Your favorite thing to watch may be some bursty mobile stuff, and don’t get me wrong, we enjoy that too and even play it quite often, but what it comes down to at the end of the day is that ‘W’ next to your name in the tournament bracket. If this was a League tournament and you picked 3 AD’s and 2 AP’s for a match, you shouldn’t really blame the team that rolled 1 AP, 1 AD, 1 Tank, 1 Support and a roaming Bruiser and beat you, especially when they’re just playing their favorite professions they’ve played since Beta weekend to begin with.

Best of luck to everyone going forward and I hope you give us hell in the future.

Heurix – Apex Prime Leader

Anyone have the Staff Ele builds?

Depends on which ele you were talking about. None of them were running the same thing, and the few differences created vast differences in play.

Also, take a look at the approximate armor/health ratios on APeX members:

Morfeus – 2400 armor on Guardian
Hman – 2500 armor on Warrior
Chubbs Z – 2500 armor, 13800 hp on Elementalist
Anas Tarcis – 3000 armor, 26000 hp on Warrior
Nnight – 2400 armor on Ranger

One legitimate bunker in Tarcis, two supports, two damage.
But yeah, 5 bunkers.. right.

It’s like getting into a LoL tourney and whining about how teams that don’t play 5 AD carries are boring to watch. It’s ridiculous.

How is Healing Breeze bugged? You guys are aware that it received a stealth buff last patch so now it scales better with Healing Breeze, right?

The tooltip is still incorrect, but the skill itself is working as intended. We even spoke to a developer about it and he said it did not seem to be overhealing.

They should alter the rules a bit (for these tournaments at least):

- No class stacking
- Limit number of “bunker amulettes” to two per team.

APeX amulets:
Anas Tarcis – Soldier / Zerk (depending on matchup)
Hman – Zerk
Nnight – Carrion
Morfeus – Magi
Chubbs Z – Cleric

What would change?

To add or not to add on even fights

in WvW

SgtJanitor.3164

At what point was this topic directed at deciding whether or not to engage on an otherwise disengaged roaming group?

The topic is in regard to adding to an ongoing equal guild fight and whether or not it is ethical to jump in and ruin that fight for both sides.

As for my guild, we typically don’t even add in on opposing guild fights to make it three-way if we can see that the fight is good, let alone friendly ones where the scales would clearly tip into our favor. There were countless times where teams were fighting it out and we just stood by and let it happen because we really want people to have those opportunities for solid fun and experience.

Really couldn’t agree more.
It’s quite simple, if you don’t want to be thought of as a guild who is simply desperate for any form of lackluster victories they can get their hands on, please be respectful of both your enemies and servermates when out fighting.

High End Staff Bunker Eles are Insane

Chubbs Z has effectively ran staff ele as a roaming bunker/support in high tier PvP for months now.

To get a good look at this in action, or if you don’t believe that staff elementalist can be an effective tool as it is currently balanced, check out the VoD of KotM2 tourney hosted by vVv 3 weeks ago for the APeX games.
http://www.twitch.tv/livevvvgaming/b/499946230

It’s already incredibly strong and any buffs made to the class will just make it all that much better.
