Idk what you’re talking about with pew pew builds not working well, my current tPvP build is a roaming pew pew build that utilizes CC and evasiveness as its defenses instead of tankyness…
Well, in my oppinion, a longbow ranger works well if you have a team that can keep an eye on you so you dont go splat. At least thats how it goes with me. Iv’e tried several Lbow builds and each and every time i ran into a problem that if a opponent is actively trying to kill me i cant deal enough damage to take them down. And i can deal enough damage with condi sbow for the life of me (condi/tanky build).
Now im not THAT new to pvp in gw2 but when i actively cant kill anyone unless they dont try to kill me it tells me that i doing something wrong.
I try to make my own builds cause i think that copy/paste of someone elses trait build means diddly squat.
Ok, ive read a bit on the forums (i should of done so sooner) ive realized that my, now deleted, post was mostly a whine post about me failing as a bow.
In the light of that i now know that i need more than just pew pew pew all day long and have decided to change my thread from the top.
So now ill keep it simple.
Now… i would, if possible, like to avoid searching entire forum sections and would like if someone can give me some general building/playing tips for a ranger.
Not the builds, ill figure that part out myself, just general tips that i can use for future reference.
Pvp (Spvp) am i doing something wrong?
Playing condi necro, when every class got buff against conditions and necro got nerf. Switch to PVT-MM necro, join the club.
but i dont like MM necro… too much microplay T_T
oh fudge, i forgot to mention that this build focuses on fear spam >_>
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQFAWjMad7ZbqbM8JApHX/M0RKIOYKFqnOA-TkAAzCoIiSFlLKTUyosRNCA
This is the build im using in Spvp… Now… i know i havent played for a rather long time, however i dont think i am THAT rusty.
I have been playing Spvp quite often these few days (i havent played GW2 over half a year), but when it comes to pvp… im wondering: am i doing something wrong?
I hold up in the back of the fight and spam marks with my staff, i use my skills when needed and when i see a opening i jump in with DS and use my skills to root, restock and fear whoever is in the way. And yet i keep on dieing as if all of that hp and armor is there just for show.
I can more or less hold my own when solo, cept maybe against mesmers and recently guardians and thiefs but i think that i can do better, the problem is, i dont know what…
Edit: The build that i linked focuses on fear spam and fear damage.

Hello
Just to clear something up first i am a returning player… after quite a long time i might add. Now i enjoy pvp as much as pve in GW2 but there is a problem.
My problem is that, aside pve, for pvp i have no idea what class fits me. I know that its more about learning a class rather than just picking one, but, while i prefer playing at a distance with a high damage weapon ive hit a brick wall. Iv’e tried mesmer with a staff condi build (just to test), iv’e tried ranger with crit longbow, and ofc i tried warrior with a rifle crit/power build.
The brick wall tho is that i can focus targets just fine, but when the enemies focus me, i go down faster that a drowning stone. Melee doesnt help, like, at all. Every time i try pvp melee i get lost in all the chaos and unfortunately i apparently have the stupidest luck by running into pug team that simply refuses to stay together or scater when things get tough.
So to put it simply, if this community can provide me with some answers i seek.
Here are my preferances: Long range combat, high damage, as little micro as possible and decent cc, nice survivability would be awesome as well.
Now these may be a bit picky, but if someone can give me a general idea whitch class fills all these rolls, for pvp ofc, id be very grateful.
pvp… forgot to mention that -_-
Hello everyone, been respecing my necro build to try something new and have made several builds (axe, staff and dagger) for pvp. Now im far from pro player and im still rather new to building necros so if you all dont mind to give me an opinion on these builds an maybe an advice on how to improve them.
1. A rather tanky build oriented around using axe, and staying in fight long enough to make use of the vulnerability stacking. The ‘well of suffering’ and ‘flesh golem’ are here just to add up to the damage while the signet is here for might and health siphon, and ‘spectral armor’ for extra protection and as a anti-stun
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mmVzc9MM0mMabmmCabmx0GG0zRqzkVM8khA70z7070c7kGo70V7owY
2. Second build is designed for DS mechanic (somewhat lackluster but what do i know >_>). Its basic principle is getting into DS as fast as possible using AA on dagger and #2 from the axe and staying in DS as long as possible. Rather high armor and vitality with decent damage ensures a long life

3. And lastly my staff build. its basicly my old build but with slight modifications. Its built around spamming of marks, prolonging bleeding, and in case a opponent comes close ensuring a swift getaway. Its also built in on using fear (not to its fullest effect but enough to be effective)

I hope this is not a silly suggestion, but i was wondering: can devs increase the strenght of friendly npcs in some places in the game at least. i cant count the ammount of times i did an event just so i can do it again 5 mins later couse all the friendly npcs (f-npc later) died in a heartbeat, all the while making the entire event long enough that repeating the same thing again a few mins later kills the mood and makes me want to just leave the kitten lying on the ground. i could go on and on but the bottom line is can you make the f-npc a bit stronger so that they can at least be helpfull (i know im a hero and all but kitten they cant be that killable) in events or at least fare on their own till help arrives.
Something on the account of difficulty ratio of players joining like: make them lose in strenght the more players are within the circle of the event and increase their strengh when there are less players in event radius. its not much but hey it would at least make things interesting.
I want to try an engineer in spvp (or any pvp for that matter), but the only kit i seem to like is the flamethrower. So a fairly simple question: is a flamethrower build even viable in pvp and if yes what would the best trait setup for it. ty
i dont agree with the comunity as well as far as difficulty goes.. true there could be a difficulty setting (some games even have it i think, i know aion does) but there is still no need for constant whining about it. i played a thief sylvari, died several times over the course of the story mode but it only made me change my approach, try harder, and enjoy the sweet victory. Sure some classes have more issues than others and some classes dont exactly work as intended (necro comes to mind (my main)) but all in all i think it can all be fixed and tactics changed, its not impossible. I can as well think of a few other games i played that were harder and yet we all still enjoyed them.

Far from it that it was easy, but i find the challenge of it entertaining. It forces me to try harder for my prize and for all intents and purposes ( and the dieing in some cases) im enjoying it. Sure its frustrating sometimes (only when i run into a bug) but so far ive enjoyed every minute of the personal story (except the npcs in it, some of em are 100% brain dead weight what i have to drag around). oh and ive played sylvari story, witch as far as ive read is the hardest (dont know why)
where are the good old days where the difficulty of a game made you scream, cringe your teeth, beat the living kitten out of your keyboard and yet you still had only yourself to blame, restart the level and after several horrifying hours raise your hands in triumph after a hard won fight. The game aint hard you just have to get your head straight and think about your skills (im not saying you dont do it), not all battles are easy.
ps: if my gf (who is a rather medicore gamer) can beat the whole personal story on a thief (that she traited and geared up herself) with limited knowlege of mmos then i seriously dont know what to say to the rest of you who played at least 2-3 mmos
why is everyone so stuck on a 2h weapons for necro, it was never intended as such (it dosent stick to the class imo) ya a double handed axe sure i can actualy see that, somehow, torch, no as well, we dont need light we need darkness. 1h sword i can see, dual wield axe i can see as well, but no 2h ’’heavy’’ weapons. I can understand the use of scepter as well (not), but i would be alot more comfortable if we had a mace instead of scepter (otherwas the whole tanky/caster thing is just silly). Fix our bugs, improve our dps (axe), rework ds and traits so they acctualy synergize and THEN think about weapons. If anything at least fix axe and give scpeter a visible attack so that i dont have to guess did i hit a mob/player or not, couse in the heat of combat its hard to notice sometimes
THIS! THIS I WANT! I dont understand why they havent made this! Im a huge fan of hand-to-hand combat as so far the only mmo i saw that has it is balde and soul (after aion im no gonna give ncsoft a second chance). SO PLEASE, preety, preety please with sugar and chocolate and sweet sprinkles and honey and weed and anything you want, MAKE A MONK PROFESION! T_T
it wouldnt hinder gameplay if you make it a ‘’out of combat’’ thing
But it would have a noticeable effect on World PvP.
altho i forgot about that, you can easly make it to be desabled for WvWvW
Voltaire… just about anthing from the guy but ‘’when your evil’’ is on the top ^^
,,I would like to see trait lines adjusted, bugs fixed, and existing skill fixed’’ totaly agreed, but i still think that in sword vs axe department i dont see why they put a axe on a class such as necro… it just dosent make sense to me why would a ’’scholar’’ type class use anything less than a cuting weapon rather than a hacking one ( tho the idea is fine but the weapon i kitten to say the least) >_>
it wouldnt hinder gameplay if you make it a ‘’out of combat’’ thing
the only reason why i proposed a dual-wield sword stye is couse of char story: basicly if you chose to get ‘’Sour Doomsday’’ in your warband you will notice he has 2 swords that seem to glow green (hope im not mistaken), it looked epic then and it would look epic later. As far as going that wizards dont need 2h sword i agree, if you want a 2h sword kitten it just give us a maul and be done with it we are a broken class anyway whats a few more weapons gonna do -_-
epic suggestions, the entire battle was rather anticlimatic and dull. when i ’’killed’’ Zhaitan and he fell to his ’’doom’’ (seriously? he fell?) i was like ‘’WTF O_o thats it!’‘. The final boss of the game (currently) and supposedly the largest of the elder dragons ( he rased a peninsula when he rose) died on the account of a firework that barely did anything to him worthwhile.
Id like to suggest something else on the account of my rant: When you knock him out of his tower make him latch on the ship for a final quick battle witch you can follow up with a laser in the face ( we got that huge kitten cannon dont we >_>)
Just as well i know its a big ship and all but i dont understand why would a great elder dragon like Zhaitan stand still and wait till we drill him full of holes, the same goes for the ship. Its a ’’action’’ type game and standing in place and mashing a ’’2’’ is VERY dull after 2 mins
However i disagree with the priory people on top of the ship, they were useless for the most part of the stories it wont change now, they will only get in the way
I tryed with precision and sigil of earth and it didnt quite work… found my self lacking those 2k hp i have atm. My main source if dmg is staff period… the only reason i have axe is #2 and #3 as i tend to use DS alot and axe helps with that, and yes i prefer staff over cepter too, helps when them runners try to dodge and slither their way to freedom, thats why i love the fear mark ^^
dual wield swords <3
Even just replacing main hand dagger with sword and granting a cleave would be nice.
cleave? is that thing eatable…. last time i checked we have DS witch is uber OP and we dont need anything else >_>

Hello folks ive been runing this staff build for a while in spvp and its been doing wonders for me… however, im posting this here couse im thinking i could improve it but i have no idea what more to improve. so here it is.
Main: Staff (im using it 95% of the time)
Sub: Axe/dagger, Axe/warhorn (deppending what i need)
Utility: Consume Condi, Spectral armor, Spectral walk, BiP,
Elite: Lych
Traits:
30 curses: Hemophilia, Weakening Shroud, Terror
30 DM: Greater Marks, Staff Mastery, Reaper’s Protection
10 SR: Fear of Death
‘’Sigil of superior agony’’ on staff, and ‘’sigil of superior battle’’ on both sub weapons.
Full ‘’superior rune of undead’’ and ‘’carrion amulet’’ with ‘’carrion jewel’’.
Im runing with this build by laying as many marks as i can, activating spectral armor and Bip, laying some more marks and then using DS for #4, fear and bleed/chill. I have plenty of toughness and vit to keep me up for a while (considering im in pugs all the time it all deppends on the people i guess, was planing to get a good team for tpvp but too shy to do it) and with #4 staff skill i can keep most of condis off of me. I use Lych form only when im at a safe spot where i can unload and close in if my allies are in need of help.
There it is. i know there are ways to put it into a url but im too tryed to test it atm.
This is my favorite build (i have a axe/warhorn, and D/D build with weils that works wonders as well) and im running with it all the time, but i would like to make it better. thank you
Lets start with expectations.
I was never in beta/alpha of GW2 nor did i play gw1, but when me and my gf saw the necro trailer we were awestruck. What i saw was a mele/mid range class with awesome looking skills that include screaming, killing, minions that blow up and life drain. In my craze i instantly looked at other gw2 trailers and decided to try it. What i expected was a tanky mage with melee skills that can siphon health, use pets for radiation purposes (telling your pets to blow up seemed so satisfying),have enough health and engage in a close quaters combat reaping death with screams echoing in my ears. Brutal bloody glory. My expectations in a nutshell.
Now what reality gave me was not as enticing. I got a rather buggy class, tanky yes, mage yes but both seem to fall short in comparison to other classes couse of the said bugs. There are no screams, no blood, condition build works (lets face thats the only thing that somewhat works), dagger bites couse of siphoning that has rather medicore damage and siphons nuts instead of health, axe is a sad excuse even as a support with the only useful skill being #3 but even that dosent help. The staff as awesome as it looks gives you a scythe (looks awesome but you cant use it -_-) that you cant use, a auto attack that is so slow i can eat entire hamburger by the time it gets to the mobs, and while marks are good and decent in their use, they are rather small unless you invest into a trait.
The skills are lackluster with half of em working right half of them slap you in the face after each use. And even if you make the right combination of traits and skill god help you if you change even one thing otherwise even Zeus wont save your sory kitten (not that he cares anyway).
And traits?! God almighty save my brain cells, i cant remember the ammout of times i had to respec for spvp, or i find a build, change it for only one point and i get kitten-slaped for doing so. Not to mention the fact that half of traits make no sense at all or are in the wrong place (imo vitality should go into DS line instead of crit) or are in the right place but are surrounded by other crap traits that make me scream for oblivion.
And lastly Death Shroud. I never saw it in a necro trailer, the traits are all over the place for no reason other than to annoy and its only purpose is to save your sorry kitten once your health is bellow 50% and you instantly spam #4 like its end day. It looks cool, but thats it (dont get me started on underwater DS that thing is just fail). I cant see my own health, i cant see my skills, i cant see my conditions, hell i can barely see anything over the size of that ui. kitten even pets are invisible from time to time in action. I wont even go over the pets. They need to be made from scratch and reinfitted with a special control ui for attack/deffend and thats it.
Scepter should be a sword imo (dual wield sword necro _), ace should be stronger and siphon should be fixed.
Other than that the ONLY reason im playing a necro is couse im still hoping that one day they will at least fix the class as it should be, but other than that my expectations are shatterd. Sry for the rant
(edited by Sherpa.7901)
Seing as everyone is posting some build variations and tutorials and similar stuff i decided to use the traits of necro to make a few builds ive tryed in one way or another. I wont be focusing on skills couse i change them ‘’on the fly’’ to give myself more versitility. So here goes.
Power build (Axe/Focus; Dagger/Warhorn*)
30 points Spite: – axe mastery
– close to death
-spitefull talisman
30 points DM: – dark armor
– spitefull vigor
– reaper’s protection
10 points SR: – spectral mastery
– this build mainly focuses on using Spectral Walk and is a bit ’’tanky’’alltho spitefull talisman can be switched for Signet Mastery imo (signet of spite comes to mind)
Condi Build (Scepter/Dagger; Staff; Scepter/Focus*)
30 points Curses: – hemophilia
– lingering curse
– withering precision
10 points DM: – staff mastery
10 points BM: – dagger mastery
20 points Spite: -spitefull marks
– signet power
– altho its a condi build i like to mix in some power stuff to boost my dps while im laying conditions, and i like to use signet of spite couse of those condis you can easly get in a second
Tank build (Scepter/Dagger; Axe/Warhorn*)
30 points DM: – dark armor
– ritual of protection
– reaper’s protection
30 points BM: – bloodthirst
– ritual mastery
– vampirit rituals
10 points Spite: – death’s embrace
– a bit more tanky build that focuses on walles
DS build (Dagger/Dagger; Axe/focus/dagger; Staff*)
30 points SR: – vital persistance
– unyielding blast
– foot in the grave
10 points Spite: – reaper’s might
20 points Curses: – spectral attunement
– weakening shroud
10 points BM: – transfusion
– yes i tryed DS build too, and i can say its not THAT bad, needs alot of work tho as it lacks damage and some things need improving (like 1 sec fear). but all in all its not a bad build, cant say i didnt enjoy it
Minion build (Scepter/Dagger/Focus; Staff*)
30 points DM: – flesh of the master
– death nova
– minion master
20 points BM: – vampiric master
– blood thirst
20 points Spite: – training of the master
– spitefull marks
– if minion ai was better minion build would rock, but as it is imo its only good for pvp, and while i prefer using minions as a expendable items with a short lifespan i would of still liked if their cd for summoning was a bit shorter
They may seem like regular cookie-cutter builds but i dont care, ive tryed most of them in the first week of GW2 in both pvp and pve ( some work better in pvp, others in pve, but i use them how i like it, gives some variety), and before someone says that ive copied their build, bite me, i may be a bit nooby still but i sure as hell aint a copycat.
*this is my personaly preference in weapons, your choice may differ
agreed, but there is no need for F4, just plain attack/deffend button would sufice, and i would also change so that blood fiend dosent attack and has more hp couse as it is now it just dies too fast
imo our staff needs to be sometimg on the line of a guardian, a quick mid-range aoe with persay life siphon, or DS filling, as it stands i like the piercing and draining but its slow, its weak and yes its kitten loud -_- it can have as long range as it wants but the moment i use it i feel like im under a spotlight >_>
i wouldnt go axes, altho its a nifty stack on vulnerability in a short time, but to sum it up so fpower/crit necro IS viable, but it goes long way from simple tweaking
i say first fix some of the DS ui and mechanics then focus on the rest, imo we got too many traits for DS and i can barely use half of em in a good rush without sacrificing 79% of ‘’2nd hp bar’’… after that ya go for the rest
personaly for pve i wouldnt use D/D. I preferebly use D/W for those events couse it gives me 2 cc’s that i can more or less spam. But the main problem with dagger isnt the somewhat low dmg (mind you its strongest we got imo) its the siphon skill witch should heal us but does a poor job of keeping us alive even with traits and passives. on the other hand i can keep my self alive via some utilitys that can siphon health and help me kite while my cc’s are on cd. Necros are not ’’broken’’, at least not as much as people say, we just have to work harder to make a viable build so do take that into account
i dont agree with self heal out of combat. Them minions are supposed to be expendable and to that they serve their purpose…mostly. Give the non-elite minions reduced cd, cept them nuke rates (loves em <3), and problem solved. oh, ye we need a attack/deffend ui, its just plain stupid that they hump on every single mob i run across -_-
ok then, how about power build with same stats and traits? is it even viable lie that?
Ok ill keep it plain and simple: im new to gw universe and new to necro class. Ive Recently found out how to enter pvp (noob moment, ya i know -_-) and have tryeed plenty of necro build (im sure i missed some but meh). Now on my wits end and beign frustrated (they all say necro is broken i say it need practice) ive decided to adress this forum. And my question is simple: how do i make power build out of dagger/warhorn and staff while retaining condi dmg. Ive tryed running with ‘’http://gw2.luna-atra.fr/skills_tool/?lang=en&code=3837009tsdlrih4u10u0au04r4s5e5m5u5vh6’’ in pvp with moderate succes but i feel myself lacking (maybe more of a fact that ive only been active in pvp for 2 days >_>). So any constructive help would be very appreciated.
ps: pardon my grammatical errors english isnt my primary language
