I was hopeful after the patchnotes said that the hitbox for bosses was fixed, but the top of the elemental in Snowblind still does not take damage forcing groups to deal with his projectiles and knockdowns on top of all those ice elementals.

Survivable, but not sure if this is an intended change.

Also, in the molten Fractal, you can melee the groups that spawn in the beginning and during the weapon test before they actually spawn. I think we managed to kill the protector before he even appeared, but he either way he didn’t spawn after the second weapon test was completed as is normal.

This was all at scale 50.

After some testing yesterday, Tactics is better than Strength. Burning Arrows reduces the cool down of Pin Down which means you can restack burning every 20 seconds instead of every 25.

And no, it does not out DPS zerker.

I was wondering if Tactics would be better if only because Combustive isn’t setting off Berzerker’s Power. Is the DPS margin between zerker and sinister as wide as previous incarnations?

What I’ve found so far (kinda summarizes too):

-Dual Wielding trait doesn’t seem to increase anything but sword.
-If longbow’s combustion shot hits a reflect, a player entering stealth, you gain swiftness, or a chat bubble (ok, kidding here) it does not go off.

It seems like Dual Wielding is working with Axes, I’ll verify with that and other weapons when I get home.

Combustive Shot always seemed to fizzle when it hit a block or reflect. I suppose that’s better than it reflecting back on us.

Let’s see if we can compile any bugs with Warrior traits/skills, since it seemed to help the other classes.

To start:

Berserker’s Power does not activate if you use the Longbow Burst skill. At least at level 3.

Does this same issue apply for Cleansing Ire?

Quick Breathing lost a lot of luster.

Banners don’t have a duration increase trait. I know the first livestream was subject to change but it was stated it would be rolled into inspiring banners at that time. While not gamebreaking nerfs, they’re really unfriendly towards their respective gamemodes.

I am not sure if banner range was affected.

Axe Mastery is a 20% crit damage buff when dual wielding axes that competes with a 20% all the time damage buff. I’ll use it for giggles, but wipe away a patriotic tear at the same time.

I’ve seen a lot of people mention massive dodge roll damage. 5-9k crits. Haven’t tested.

Does unsuspecting foe only work on stuns, or does it also affect dazes, blowouts, etc. etc? I believe previously it was stun only, just curious if that’s still the case.

how amazing are you?

Pushing 40 here. Voice comms are a double-edged sword to me. If I’m on a server I with people I know and trust, I still get people talking off-topic with no focus on what I’m trying to do.

Or those that don’t use push to speak and I get to listen to their dog rut with a pillow while they manage to somehow mouthbreath and eat a pizza while effectively sitting inside my skull.

I’ve been in effective comms with strangers all of once, which TTS hosted and didn’t let pubbies talk. I’m rarely on comms with people I game with and have them stay on topic, because someones teacher wasn’t nice, or their girlfriend couldn’t borrow the car or life is just so unfair.

I would love comms if you kids would talk about something worth listening to.

On the flip side, I hopped on comms with a Fractals focused guild and heard their Guild leader say that zerker gear is terrible, so I knew to quit that guild immediately. It has uses, but not often.

Dungeon Balance Post-Specializations

Shinki.8045

What I find interesting about the Warrior traits is that we can currently run PS/EA and can run the Elite Specialization. PS/EA will hurt a little without fast hands from Discipline, but was given more damage and more potential variety without changing it’s base use.

Also, Rising that increased effect proposal for Flurry isn’t that great, sword builds already get +50% bleeding duration anyways.

Fractals Bugs:

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Shinki.8045

Shinki.8045

There’s been a few interesting Fractals bugs that’s I’ve seen enough times to warrant posting about:

Mostly it’s due to aoe notifications not displaying. Ice Ele in Snowblind is the major offender, you can see the lightning but not the swirling Wind or Red circle. You can time your dodge to avoid the last hit, but this makes the fact that we can’t target the top portion of the ice ele to stop this hit even harder.

Molten Duo boss as well, this one is more insidious due to the massive damage the fire fields nail you with, but there’s absolutely no tell that they’re there. No circle or ground fire, you just walk and take damage in a place you thought was safe.

I’m sure you guys are aware of Mossman.

It also appears that the safespot still exists in molten facility.

AMA: Weak Warrior Traits

in Warrior

Posted by: Shinki.8045

Shinki.8045

Let’s compare Axe Mastery to Berzerkers power. If you’re using Axe it’s already pretty easy to Eviscerate every time it’s off of cooldown (at least in PVE) so maintaining a 20% damage boost would be simple. Compared to a 18% (with 2 axes) crit damage increase, seems to underperform.

As it stands, it seems more like a Master level trait especially when compared to Forceful Greatsword.

Forceful greatsword is only relevant to Greatsword. While it is the highest DPS weapon a warrior has, not everyone wants to use it.

You can’t ignore how axe mastery reduces cooldown of axe skills by 20%, as that is clearly relevant. And also critical hits with axe gain adrenaline. Axe mastery is three traits rolled into one, while berserkers power serves one purpose. A damage boost.

Of course, berserkers power will still be the more common choice, but meta builds have always been rather linear as far as build choices go. If someone wants to mess around with dual axes, then axe mastery will be the better trait. Not many people use dual axes, but it’ll be there for those who do….I tend to use them in wvw zergs because whirling axe is nice for tagging.

I’m terribly fond of my open world double-axe build. I was really hoping for some actual synergy with the trait choices to get to Axe Mastery, as I was hoping to chop more content in the face.

It just pales in comparison to Forceful Greatsword, since you can get the mastery for Greatsword and Berzerker’s Power.

AMA: Weak Warrior Traits

in Warrior

Posted by: Shinki.8045

Shinki.8045

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this but, Axe Mastery as rather underwhelming to me in its placement. The trait itself looks great, but you get no synergy from the other options you have to take to get there.

Death from above is pretty dull and situational. Restorative Strength makes no sense since it’s a condi cleanse in a DPS-focused trait line. Meaning physical training is the best bet because it will reduce Mending to a 16 second cooldown (and hopefully become a better heal with high adrenaline.) which also invalidates Restorative Strength as a condi cleanse since Mending already clears 3 conditions.

Master level traits make it even worse, Body blow will only work on a swapped weapon or utility skill. Great fortitude is just boring. Forceful Greatsword is just the best weapon specialization skill any class gets mashed into a master level slot. If you’re taking this I don’t see a reason to grab Axe mastery.

How will new changes affect the Zerker Meta?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shinki.8045

Shinki.8045

Zerker builds that used traits in ‘defensive’ lines like the PSEA2banner warrior will now suddenly hit even harder in full zerker.

In my opinion this would be a buff for PS/EA. PS/EA has to dive into a vitality line without maxing the precision line, which Forceful Greatsword needs. This smells more like PS/EA getting a flat DPS stat buff along with its existing utility.

THAT SAID, WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE TRAITS LOOK LIKE. WE CAN’T SCREAM NERF OR BUFF UNTIL WE GET OUR HANDS ON THEM.

Zerker builds that used traits in ‘offensive’ lines like the DPS warrior will now suddenly hit less hard since they’ve had the equivalent of having their weapon forcibly converted to Celestial with the base stat change.

This is assuming celestial stats are being sprinkled onto everything. We don’t know the stat distribution.

Expect metas to now start adding traits formerly in ‘defensive’ lines, and for some of the current full offense types to drop in popularity, depending on the class. Since you can’t change stats anymore by retraiting defensively, we might also start to see people carrying multiple sets – a Soldier set for uncrittables/hard-to-survive fights and a Berserker set for standard fights might become common.

Some of us already do this. On my main I have a Fractal Zerker set, a WvWvW set and a condi set.

The gap between Exotic and Ascended widens since the base amount of stats it’ll be multiplied by will now increase, making it harder to multiset unless you make one set of each type – or you can survive in full glass for everything.

The gap between exotic and ascended armor is not so vast as it stands. The power difference between exotic and ascended zerkers armor (full set!) is 14. 14. Less than 1/5th of a food buff.

Weapons have always been better because of the base damage increase, the stat gains have always been negligible.

Everyone keep your heads on straight. Until it ships, this is all hyperbole. Give good feedback with the information we’re given.

What is easier about fighting Mossman on land? Legitimate question btw

If the group can’t do Mossman effectively most often than not, its a sign of things to come.

Amen.

Pre-Fractured Mossman was a definite litmus test for the group since stealth hatchets could easily kill. This is holdover from a different time but watching group members wipe on Mossy (or legendary imbued Shaman) as he is now makes me wince at how easy PUGs have it now.

Besides exploiting being distasteful, Mossy is actually an interesting fight that can tell you a lot about the competency of your team.

Now apply the same mechanic to fractals, give skins for relics and ruin it just like every other dungeon. I understand that people quit doing fractals because they didn’t get the skin they wanted, but i have to ask, once you get your skin for relics wouldn’t you quit anyway? How is it different if you run 100 fractals, get the desired skin and quit or if you run 100 fractals, end up with a few skins you didn’t want and quit because you were disappointed? Bottom line is, you’ve stopped doing fractals…

Imagine if people would do content because of the challenge, the company (doing guild runs), and only consider the reward on third place. It all happens in the mind, you can turn anything into a grind if your first and foremost incentive is that you want to get something.

This isn’t what I’m asking for specifically. I’m actually fine with having Fractal Skins as an RNG reward, but I can completely understand the desire to allow progression to earn them (hopefully on an account-bound basis). What I am hoping for is that Fractals can be made equally as rewarding in gold earned as spending time in other dungeons. Preferably in a way that can specifically reward Fractals veterans due to many bugs that kept rewards out of their grasp or having their progress erased.

Not sure if you were around 6 months ago, but Regina came in and had the community compile bugs for each dungeon and fractals. She took them and claimed she was passing them along to the team. There has been no word on those, though there have been a few fractal fixes of late.

Oh I certainly pitched in on those. In fact, after Regina moved on and Gaile was made head of forum communications I had PMed Gaile (and got a response!) about the lack of info. The response was that they got that feedback, but that’s about it.

There are a lot of bug reports that have accumulated over the years and have gone unanswered, so I am working with the devs to get some developer buy-in to fixing them (or at least confirming that they are logged). Once I have that, I will be rallying the community to help me generate a complete list of issues.

Much thanks.

Shinki.8045

I’m glad to see opposing viewpoints, although I honestly didn’t expect them. I would like to clarify my reasoning here:

Because those that have been sticking to the hardest content have had rewards that are unattainable due to bugs or just not implemented, and because the only measurable way to determine if someone has spent a lot of time completing fractals is standard relics (Some people may have converted Pristines to save space) I feel that a reward that new people can progress towards or veterans can enjoy immediately would be a welcome addition.

Also, RisingDusk, if you have anyones ear I have submitted several bug reports about strange reward behavior. Specifically, vials of mists essence drop at level 50 solid ocean from the Jade Constructs with surprising frequency, and the reward chest from Molten Facility is worse than a story mode dungeon chest. Last 2 runs that thing gave me 1 blue and my tokens. Seems inappropriate for that end reward to be so much less rewarding than the others. (Molten Boss chest is inconsistently bad, but that could just be confirmation bias. Molten Facility chest is just always bad.) It would be reassuring to know that someone up there at Anet is made aware that this should at least be looked at.

Along the road to a personal level of 50 (or more pre-fractured) most will have purchased everything usable from the relic vendor.

Obsidian Shards and Skill points are handy, but an obtuse money maker when other dungeon tokens directly correlate to either ectos or Mystic Forge exotic precursor rolls.

And collection progression.

Those that have been doggedly attacking top-tier Fractals have had their rewards obfuscated, bugged, or simply un-implemented for a long time. Fractal weapons basically did not drop at 50 most recently, weapon boxes only drop at un-implemented difficulties, progress was reset…

…Fractal veterans have had the short end of the stick and no communication regarding it. The rewards have been bugged for a year or simply removed briefly with a reset. We should at least get something we can do to turn these giant piles of tokens into some gold.

Fractal Masteries

Shinki.8045

While I agree, they said a lot of mastery points will be rewarded retroactively. It’s possible that by being at L50 already with a bunch of achievements done, we may get enough to go right up to L60 or something. One can hope, eh?

There’s so much room for ambiguity, I’m just hoping for some more info before anyone starts yelling that we’re in for another reset. If we have to start the mastery tracks from scratch regardless of personal level, achievements, number of pristine relics, bank tabs full of rings or unopened weapon and armor chests, I hope that they’re at least forthright with that information.

My heart can’t take another Fractured. I hope we get some more info about this, I don’t want the Fractals Mastery to work like another level reset. That’s what I really want to hear about.

I just want to know if once the expansion gets released if Fractals veterans will need to level up say, 50 masteries before they’re able to unlock a new tier of difficulty. That would not be received kindly no matter how it is used in practice.

This is when I noticed that the Ranger was using a Bear. And a longbow.

I don’t see the problem with this. I use a lynx for the might stack and if I’m being attacked quite heavily, I use the bear to take the aggro until I can use my lynx again.

Hell, I ask for a Bear in the Old Tom fight, helps sponge the projectiles. The problem is when they don’t ever switch, actively avoid stacking with the team and refuse to teamplay with traits like spotter. Or fail to notice that we’re whittling down defiant stacks to Ice Bow 5 a boss for a burn and just knockback every time it’s off cooldown. Or even simply fail to use healing spring.

I like having a good Ranger on my team. Having one on the team that’s actively making the run take longer than needed is a pain.

FotM dailies, ruining the experience?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Shinki.8045

Shinki.8045

Trying to pug a daily 50 yesterday was just painful, after the first shard I realized that Fractal was one of the dailies and it all made sense.

I was one of 3 Warriors. A guildie of mine was on his Ele. Our fifth was a Ranger. I swapped to Guard after a wipe at Bloomhunger. I forgot that was possible.

2nd shard was uncategorized. This is when I noticed that the Ranger was using a Bear. And a longbow. I asked if they could use spotter and they replied no. One of the Warriors was complaining that this wasn’t as good as PvP. Since I swapped from my Warrior no one was dropping Banners. Both of them died many, many times while jumping. We almost wiped at Old Tom. I began craving hard liquor. Somehow, the Bearbow fell off the side at the boss. You know, the side you don’t go anywhere near because the boss might reset? The side you avoid because you need to stack up and murder the Golems? Yeah. The Ranger somehow ran all the way off the side.

I hoped third shard was Grawl so those two would quit. We got Thaumanova. Went smoothly except for the ooze fight since if one person with a rapid shot doesn’t read a buff bar the team wipes.

Last boss was Molten, thankfully. Tried melee, 2 people couldn’t jump the waves. I ended up soloing zerker down the last 50%. 2 people managed to die to the firestorm after reviving anyways.

We all got rings. One was uninfused.

I am never pugging Fractals if it’s the daily again.

Not to derail this conversation, but here’s a peek behind the curtain: when I was coming up with a name for the creepy weapon set created for our ‘Secret of Southsun’ release, I was looking for a term that would evoke ancient sea creatures and also the disturbing eyes on these weapon skins and decided to reference the Greek root skleros, which means “hard, cruel, fierce.”

The word for the white portion of our eyes, sclera, comes from this root, as does the biological term sclerite, the hardened portion of an arthopod exoskeleton.

Sorry—continue speculating!

Condition Damage in PvE Overview

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shinki.8045

Shinki.8045

Pretty much covered everything. Im in favour of ignoring ramp up time and implementing the first 3 suggestions personally. But maybe rebalancing some skills and weapons to reduce ramp up in PvE. I would imagine this would be a PvP/PvE split.

Im sure people will mention that it doesnt solve the issue in open world. However I dont think thats possible to solve in any realistic manner. Balancing zergs is futile. The best solution is just to make sure future open world stuff keeps encouraging the splitting of zergs. Then condition builds would be fine even in open world once some of these suggestions are implemented.

I also don’t see any change to ramp-up time affecting PvP in a way that doesn’t completely tip the scales to condi or nothing. Condi builds always seemed to be (at least philosophically) pressure builds and ramp up time, in my mind lends itself to that.

In my mind, open world speccing is an odd strength that is rarely touted for GW2. Most everyone understands and accepts their dungeon/wvwvw/pvp builds for what they require, but open world boss zerg builds are yet another point of build diversity people can build around. While some people hate gear grinds, I’m personally fond of making a set for boss zergs, dungeons, wvwvw, etc. etc. Adds to the longevity and variety of the character and the game.

Kick the ranger

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Shinki.8045

Shinki.8045

I’ve been running Fractals like crazy since AR was capped at 35. In that time I have nearly exclusively PUGed. I can count on one hand the number of times I had a Ranger join a Fractals 38 (before Fractured) or 50 (post Fractured) that didn’t blatantly get carried, Bearbow, Ragequit at a hard boss or get kicked for holding the rest of the group back.

In fact, there were 2 good rangers. The first one managed to heal the team up without the 99% trick at Maw pre-fractured with spirit tricks and blasting healing spring. The second was a melee spirit ranger, and that group was less of a pug and more of a finely tuned Killdozer.

At 50 I honestly assume that if a Ranger joins then they’re going to quit at Swamp because they don’t have the AR. And if they max range longbow Bloomy I end up hoping they’ll quit.

Also:

By the way, same a guardian wall can block all projectiles, a necromancer with his darkness whell can block all melee hits. I never dare to go to fractal lvl 50 without a good necro in my team. Even level 43 or 33 would be harder without one necromancer.

Well, now I’ve read everything.

I’ll add a little more info:

1.) Phase 2 of the last boss fight on Cliffside: The projectile reflect is both in a pattern and has an obvious tell. He tends to summon beasties (point animation) chase someone he wants to hit, then use the reflect/aoe light bomb (reaches down with his off hand and raises it above his head similarly to some heal animations) after that he will do the ranged grab, summon beasties and then the bomb. It becomes predictable, and the bomb is dodgable when he starts to move his arm up.

2.) Slot these skills: Defiant stance, berzerkers stance, bulls charge, sig of stamina (this one is flexible) and rampage.

Weapons: sword/warhorn. Before you enter, apply swiftness and vigor with warhorn. jump in, spam 1 as you move forward. Dodge often to speed yourself up. Bulls Charge to gain some distance. When your health gets low, pop zerkers stance and defiant stance. You will heal with each damage pulse and not get conditions briefly. This may take you out of combat and grant you increased move speed. If it does, you can probably make it without needing vengeance. After the heal, pop rampage and use 3 and then 5 to get some extra movement. If you drop, heal until you can vengeance and enter the chamber. Hit one switch, Warhorn 4, hit the other switch.

1: Change to Dredge Fractal. It’s a far more polished experience. Keeping the intent and spirit of the original paths, but toning down the grind significantly.

2: Permanent well manicured living story content. Everything in the new living story is a breath of fresh air.

Dungeons, far and away. Fractals are a completely separate kind of incentive which is entirely account/soulbound.

As a for instance:

I’ve stopped running Fractals to work on the Dungeoneer title for the last 2 weeks. My usually nightly play-session was typically FotM 50 (and 40 if it was a willing and fantastic group), Tequatl and some world bosses. In the last 3 weeks I’ve done AC full clear, SE 1 and 3, CoF 1 and 2 and whatever other dungeon I can find a quick group for.

In that time I’ve made about 200 gold, and haven’t needed to hit the TP for as many crafting materials.

anyone had it for the ascalon fractal the npcs do not spawn at all? just happened to me in a 49 fractal.

What generally happens:

Your team spawns and runs on the left wall. The NPCs charge the first blob of infinitely respawning mobs and gets brutally murdered in an unwinnable war of attrition.

Now if your team completely wipes then the NPCs will respawn. If one person runs away, they will not. If you wipe before killing Dulfy and breaking the wall, they will respawn and commit ritual suicide against the infinitely respawning Ascalonians again. If you wipe after killing Dulfy they usually respawn right there with you, but everyone needs to die for that to happen.

If you’re ever wondering where the NPCs are, check the map for the skull and crossbone dead NPC symbols. They’re the only ones that can be ressed so they’re the only ones that leave that on the map. Odds are, they’re all dead immediately outside of the tent where you start.

I have not seen this happen. Been in there a few times recently, was all of his defiant peeled off? I would assume as much, but worth asking. I’ll keep my eyes on it next time I’m in there.

thanks for the info guys. that is good to know. also good to know that the pugs try to reflect his spinning attack when its useless :P

I know this is a page late, but:

Old Toms standard spinning bolts cannot be reflected. They can be body-blocked by Ranger Pets and Earth Eles, making those both awesome for this fight.

Old Tom does, however, have a single target ranged nuke that can be reflected. This one hits like a truck and is worth blocking/reflecting. Now, feedback isn’t going to save anyone in the melee pile from it, so WoR is actually not wasted in this fight.

That said, hiding behind a chunky pet is way safer.

Gaile, it’s nice to see you in our humble dungeon forums. Thank you for trying to keep things civil.

Streaks, droughts, and long leads are features of a random sequence. That’s a mathematical fact. MMO players see streaks and droughts in a random results and decide that the RNG is broken. That’s human nature.

This is true, but there is a logical reason for this skepticism.

Shortly after release, dungeon tokens were awarded on boss kill. Then you got a small amount daily for completing the path. Rather than complete the paths people would farm the fastest bosses for tokens. Dungeons were changed to have the tokens awarded on path completion. When that change went live the dungeon end chests were subject to diminishing returns that supposedly did not affect those chests. Not only that, but they affected people who hadn’t even run that path before let alone that day.

Then a patch came out to fix it, except it didn’t and more people still didn’t get completion rewards. Hell, I still have a screenshot proving it from an HotW path completion.

Then there’s the Final Rest fiasco.

And now we have people, like myself, who run a Fractals 50 nearly daily. The end chest regularly drops uninfused rings and vials of mists essence drop regularly as well.

Vials are supposed to drop from fractals levels 1-9. The uninfused rings could be intended but we have no idea if that’s the case.

Finally, there’s the Fractal Weapon box fiasco. Added, in the API but confirmed not to drop until level 51+.

With this history of end chest rewards actually being affected by diminishing returns, receiving lower-tier loot on top tier Fractal difficulty and quietly making sought-after rewards completely unavailable, you can perhaps see why much of the Fractals community is skeptical of RNG being the only thing keeping rewards out of our hands.

hey, so maybe this will convince you guys ?!

I have multiple extra skins in my bank, one from pre-fractured and another I got on Tuesday. Neither has a right click option besides Use, Unlock in Wardrobe (greyed out) and Destroy. None of the applied skins have this option either.

My Flame and Frost achievements are also absent of a fractal master achievement. Either we’re all bugged and you aren’t, you’re bugged and we aren’t, or you’re lying and using beta footage. This being the internet, I would hope you can understand why we would jump straight to lying. That and your username.

Alright let me say something..
First of all i’m NOT a troll (even though my acc name is trolling)
i think i just unlocked the achievment by unlocking all fractal skins to the wardrobe thats why i can see it and you guys not..
maybe ArenaNet is still working on the achievment or it is somehow buged..
i just wanted to show you guys that there IS actually a fractal skin achievment

Over the weekend I realized it was probably due to something like this. It seems unlikely that there would be no loot reward for putting this much time and effort into Fractals, so I’m guessing this was an unintended hint regarding the fractal collection achievement.

I am optimistic that the track hasn’t been implemented yet because there is no actual way to choose your skin. I’m sitting at 17 /19, just missing torch and scepter. 3 extra Daggers and an Axe sitting in the bank, plenty of others that got transmuted pre-fractured.

I’m unreasonably optimistic that it hasn’t been implemented due to ANet preparing a reward buff for Fractal players, which may be lumped into that update.
