WvW skirmishes Sept 9th!

And two hours of work equates to 3 points. Or 2, or 1.

Not 190, 160, 75, 40 every five minutes. So the first place has a total potential of 252 points across the week.

It’s the same points with smaller numbers.

No, it’s not.

I’ll simplify it all down for you and everyone else who doesn’t seem to understand.

Let’s say a WvW match goes for 10 hours right? That’s 40 ticks at 15 minute scoring intervals, or 5 ticks at 2 hour scoring intervals.

Let’s also say that the total combined PPT in the entire matchup is 100 points.

And let’s say that server A is constantly ticking at 85 PPT, server B at 10 PPT and server C at 5 PPT (total of 60 PPT)

This gives us the following two scenarios, which are not the same.

Before:
Server A finishes with a score of 3400
Server B finishes with a score of 400
Server C finishes with a score of 200

Now:
Server A finishes with a score of 15
Server B finishes with score of 10
Server C finishes with a score of 5

Notice the difference? Before server A would have a massive lead (Server B’s score is merely 11.76% of server A’s score) but now server B’s score is 66% of server A’s score.

It makes more much closer match ups.

Purple name plates have been on CN servers since the start. That’s their “VIP” subscribers.

So you’re saying NA/EU are not worthy of VIP status?

Literally nothing he said implied that he thought NA/EU aren’t worthy of VIP status, how did you even interpret that??

Regardless, it has nothing to do with being “worthy”, I think you’ll find most players do not want a VIP service.

[Daredevil] - Feedback

in Thief

Sithaco.4673

Here’s my feedback after some extensive play with the Daredevil. I am quite happy with it, but there are some things that could use a tweak or two.

The Staff

I found the staff to be a very nice weapon with a decent amount of damage in comparison to the survivability you get as a Daredevil, although there are some skills that are very rarely used.

Auto-attack: Aside from the animations feeling extremely clunky, the damage and speed is pretty decent.

Skill #2: This skill is great, it requires a low amount of initiative, it has relatively high damage (this is our best source of consistent damage) and it moves us through the player, making it hard for enemies to stay onto us and just adds to our mobility.

Skill #3: This skill is very rarely used and is extremely situational.

Skill #4: This skill is also very rarely used and is extremely situational.

Skill #5: Great for chasing down an opponent or hitting a large group of people on a point, very high damage.

Stealth: Haven’t had much of a chance to use this skill but on the opportunities that I do it’s quite nice to have a knockdown.

The Utilities

The only physical skills I found myself using we’re the heal and the block.

Channeled Vigor: This skill is incredible, it’s great for re-filling our endurance and provides a large amount of healing.

Bandit’s Defense: This skill is just incredible, a block + knockdown on a 10 second cooldown (8 seconds when traited).

I found the rest of the physical skills to be a bit too underwhelming and difficult to pull of mid combat.

Distracting Daggers: This skill feels slow and clunky with a cast time and a 1 second cooldown on each dagger being thrown.

Fist Flurry: I found this skill just not worth taking over one of my other utilities, it didn’t do a whole lot in comparison to Shadow Step, Infiltrator’s Signet or Bandit’s Defense, plus it’s difficult to land and Palm Strike just isn’t worth it.

Impairing Daggers: Once again a skill that just wasn’t worth taking, maybe if I was running condi it’d have a place.

Impact Strike: I simply found this skill way to difficult to land, most of the time if an enemy was running away from me the skill would miss.

The Dodges

The only dodge I found myself using was Unhindered Combatant, the other two just didn’t appeal to me.

Unhindered Combatant: It’s great for escapes and moving around really fast.

Lotus Training: If I was running condi I would consider taking this.

Bounding Dodger: Can’t really see myself taking this over Unhindered Combatant.

Recommendations

  • Make the staff skills #3 and #4 a bit more useful, possibly replace #4 with a AoE blind similar to Black Powder.
  • Unhindered Combatant’s animation literally has the thief pretending to hold a greatsword, please change!
  • Fix up the clunky animations on the staff (especially the auto-attack).

Final Words

The Daredevil brings to the table something I have not seen in this game and I am having a lot of fun with it! Thank you!

Tiered discussion on No White Swords

in WvW

Posted by: Sithaco.4673

Sithaco.4673

I’m an oceanic WvW player on Ehmry Bay (currently tier 6) and for me the removal of white swords has been a terrible experience. In the past, home BL defense was already hard enough with the white swords, let alone without them. Most of the time we have around 5 people online, at most, and so we don’t want to have to sit in our keeps and towers and simply keep watch for the whole night, that’s neither fun or rewarding.

Before the removal of white swords, we were able to head across to the enemy BL and take some camps and towers whilst simultaneously making sure no enemies were trying to ninja our structures, whereas now, our structures are being capped left right and center, and we have no way to tell that they’re about to be taken (aside from scouting our structures, which we neither want to do or have enough people online to do).

People want the white swords to be removed because now they can take enemy objectives with no resistance what-so-ever. If the enemy had scouts, they’d be spotted and slain, just like they would if there were white swords, but fortunately for all the small group karma trainers, most people don’t enjoy scouting, and most servers don’t have enough numbers to afford scouts.

All the removal of white swords has does is made it incredibly hard for defenders, and really easy for attackers.

White swords as a upgrade?

in WvW

Posted by: Sithaco.4673

Sithaco.4673

Purely brainstorming here, but what do you think having white swords as a upgrade would be like? Just like the Additions and Upgrades tabs, there could be one called Response and as you unlock higher and higher tiers of it, the time it takes for the white swords to pop decreases, like so:

Tier 1 – 30 seconds
Tier 2 – 15 seconds
Tier 3 – Instantaneous

Thoughts?

Question on white swords?

in WvW

Sithaco.4673

Unless you’re the leading server in a massive blowout win, it’s going to be near impossible to hold a tower long enough to get a WP anyway.

Just because you might lose a keep do to inattention to it, doesn’t mean other skilled and organised teams will.

Skilled and organised?

“You, go sit in NE tower”

“You, go sit at S camp”

“You- wait what? You don’t want to stand a camp doing nothing? What’s wrong with you!”

There’s nothing skillful about babysitting a camp, sure it requires a bit of organisation, but 99.9% of people aren’t gonna want to do it. Let’s see how this thing rolls out, but I’m pretty sure I know exactly how it’s gonna be received.

CDI-Guilds- Raiding

Sithaco.4673

I doubt anyone will read this, but I’ll put my input in anyway because I love this game and love watching it grow. This is what I believe we need in regards to raids.

Incentives

There needs to be rewards, because as of right now there isn’t much in terms of rewards for putting in all the effort and completing this super difficult content. I’m thinking create a currency as well as make the bosses drop awesome but rare loot (new armor and new weapons as well as other things).

The currency will be something you get every time you complete a raid, and no matter what raid you do the currency is the same type. This allows players to work towards obtaining new armor, weapons and all sorts of other things even when they aren’t receiving one of the rare unique rewards from the particular raid.

Bias aside, they are both equally useful and wanted in PvE (dungeons, fractals) and both are really strong in PvP, although mesmers have a bit more variety when it comes to playstyles.

My advice, play both and see which one he likes the most, they are both VERY different to each other.

As a frequent gem purchaser, maybe 10-20 dollars every paycheck, this change will keep my money in my wallet. Never buying gems again as long as this system is in place. Very distasteful ANet. You’ve lost yet another customer with your unnecessary changes and horrible decision making. I know a cash grab when I see one. Sad to see such a revolutionary and innovative videogame slowly being ruined due to poor management. You’re bleeding yourselves out….

I feel like this is something they must’ve foreseen, and that this change is not at all for quality of life, it’s to make more money, and they probably figured out the amount of people who would stop buying gems because of this would no where near offset the amount of extra profit they will be making, I’m hoping, but I’ll be suprised, if we see this reversed :/

Just under 600 posts and 6000 views under 7 hours, a lot of negative feedback in game, on the forum, Facebook, reddit, twitter.
Very hard to find a positive comment about this new gem system, you see a lot suggestions on how to change, and the defenders that you usually see with any change in there giving constructive criticism or silent altogether, (even myself who I like to think that I’m more forgiving on most of Anets directions),
I didn’t think it was possible, something of a myth, something rare as having 2 Eternities drop for you on a white mob, but they did it. Anet was able to get the majority of the community to agree on something, o.O……. Don’t think that has ever happen in this company’s history.
It would have been a magical moment too, like seeing a bloody unicorn or a condi d/d thief, Too bad it’s about this. Even when ascended gear first came out, at least they had some of the fan based defend it.

And this wouldn’t have happen if anet had actually communicated with us about this before hand. If we had known even a month before that a system like this was in the works, feedback could have been given, changes could have been made, and this mess could have been avoided.
Would there have been a lot negative feed back in the mean time? Yeah it would, a vocal minority would hate it, but that would have been contained to the forums, and I would think I would be a lot better then was is going on now, because I don’t think this is a vocal minority anymore.

I got to ask, is what your getting now really worth keeping the current policy over?
Sure, let say you make changes based on current feedback and bam, most are content.
All goes back to normal, life goes on.
But what happens when the next feature comes without warning and it too isn’t fit for purpose? Another change that makes your community question your business practices and good will towards your players. Is that backlash worth it? Would you rather not have a few people on the forums mad at you than a good chunk of the player base? I just don’t know.
I might be hyping this up more than it actually is, being caught up in the anger, maybe I am underestimating the amount of negative feedback u guys have gotten in the past, but I’ve following anet since factions (WHERES MY CANTHA) and I have never seen it this bad, plus I don’t rant as often as I should.

PS, meant to post this in the anets lack of transparency thread

You know what buddy? We might just need to go to starting zones and ask ourselves to new players what they think, teach them how to use the forums and such. If these confused new players exist at all, we should be able to find them.

Seems like their excuse for every change these days.

Only post constructive feedback, I know this has angered a lot of people, so let’s give Arenanet the feedback they asked for and if they hold true, we shall see the changes we need.

I’ll start…

It’s simple, bring back the old way, but keep this way as well. I’m going to hope Arenanet have done this purely because they wanted to make it better for the players, not as a marketing scheme.

Even keep the same UI, and at the bottom have a option to click “advanced” or something which brings up the ability to add your exact number of gems you wish to buy.

Lately Arenanet has been talking a lot about certain parts of the game being too confusing for new players and putting them off, specifically the downed state and the traits system, and that is why they have decided to change them by removing the downed state until level 5 and making trait points unlock at a lot slower rate.

Majority of the people (who are posting on these forums, I’m not speaking for the GW2 community as a whole) seem to disagree with Arenanet and say that these systems are in fact not difficult to understand.

My question is, did anyone ever actually find it difficult? I know for me personally the trait system and the downed state were very easy to understand, to be honest the most confusing thing for me was how crafting worked!

So, how did your first experiences with the trait system and downed state go?

I understand that development changes, plans change, due dates change, but it’s because of such a lack of communication that this is a problem. They make a big blog post that lots of MMO websites link to detailing what will be coming in 2013, everyone hears about it and it gets really hyped up, and then some of it doesn’t happen. Sure, this is okay, plans and development change, but the way they communicated this with us was terrible, not everyone is going to see a reply from Arenanet in a single forum post saying that it probably won’t be coming in 2013, thus causing the problem of communication. If they are going to hype something up really big and make everyone hear about it, when plans change they need to make that information just as visible.

Except that a roadmap isn’t hype. They laid out plans and said plans might change. That’s not hype. That’s not even close to hype. If you took what was said at face value, they said they had plans that may change. If you can get hyped about that, more power to you.

They gave us, as I’ve said, other stuff which was just as important. Sure it’s not the same stuff. They specifically said in a post (I don’t have a quote handy) that the stuff they had been planning with the precusors wouldn’t have worked with other changes they made to the game. It’s back to the drawing board.

Are you kidding? How can you say this blog post wasn’t intended to generate hype? It was at a time in the game where we didn’t have a lot of permanent content, and people were getting frustrated, they wanted to put the player base to ease and get them all excited for a bunch of new cool stuff coming out in the next few months.

And yeah, they did give us other stuff, cool stuff, megaserver, the wardrobe system, and that’s okay, I’m not sitting here saying that just because they said we will be getting stuff within the next X amount of time then we HAVE to get it, because I know that development and plans change, which is what they’ve told us happened.

My problem is there hasn’t been much communication about it, it’s something a lot of people are eager for, and we’ve got no idea if it’s coming out this year, next year, the year after, for something that was supposed to come out last year, I think we deserve a bit more information on what’s going on.
