Pay to play each map?? Really??

Those late to the game will have less play time on a older title

Only if they decide to have less play time. There’s no subscription and the game isn’t going anywhere. They have all the time in the world to play, if they want to, for as long as they want to, regardless of when they start.

Kind of a false statement there. I have been back playing after being gone for 5 years and already looking to step away after just two weeks. Being so far behind and lost and limited is a turn down.

How is it a false statement? Who are you “so far behind” and who, besides yourself, is making you step away after two weeks? Honestly, I’d like to know. These kinds of comments really confuse me. Having a ton of stuff to do in a video game sounds like a really awesome problem to have.

Edit: and you’re only limiting yourself here

Quit for 2 years - bought PoF - CONCERNS

Thank you very much for the feedback, really helpful.

I decided to buy it – kitten it, why not I’m enjoying reliving Season 2 so it’s the ideal thing to do while I wait 2 weeks or so

Not sure if anyone mentioned it above, but if you are going to play HOT for the next two weeks whilst waiting for POF, here’s one helpful hint: DONT SPEND YOUR MASTERY POINTS. You get HUGE amounts of mastery points in the HOT maps, but if you don’t use them, you can get a head start of a good 200 or more mastery points in POF which will allow you to upgrade your new elite spec a bit quicker.

You seem to have confused mastery points with hero points. They’re not really the same thing.

PoF— seems to be nothing but a gold sink to me and most likely the last nail in the coffin. Major mistake in the direction of the game and it will cost them (imho and I entitled to it).

Wait, what makes it a gold sink? What exactly will they be forcing you to spend gold on in PoF?

if you not read this topic on it I think you find it a good read on why it is the new pack is going to be a major gold sink .

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Unidentified-gear-Please-No-No-No-Nooooo/page/11#post6743375

I’m not brave enough to venture more than a few posts into that thread, tbh.

But regardless, I’m not sure how unidentified gear can possibly be a gold sink. If it’s costing you more gold to identify the gear than you’re making from the gear itself, then that eliminates any reason to identify it in the first place, thus saving you time and inventory space. Conversely, if identifying the gear ends up being profitable, that’s the exact opposite of a gold sink. Although if there’s something I’m missing about this topic, I’d love to read about it without digging through 11 pages of “stop making me work for my loot” posts

I gotta applaud anyone who can figure out the mechanics in the clusterkitten that is fractal 100. The first fellow’s alright, but the second boss just has way too much going on at once.

Even on normal mode, she’s actually a fair bit harder than many raid encounters.

Viirastra has 2 core mechanics:
1. Stand in the bubble when you have the skull
2. Bounce the marble on your head (only 1 person needed, backup helpful)

If you do these two mechanics correctly, the rest of the fight is pretty easy. Failing these two mechanics quickly snowballs the fight to failure.

There are also two minor mechanics:
1. Don’t stand in the AoEs (You can jump over many of them)
2. Kill the big clones, then drag the little ones to the boss.

Doing these two mechanics reduces the damage pressure to almost nothing.

Theres a bit more to the fight, but this is the core that will allow you to succeed in non CM.

If you are failing the marble, try lower tiers. The marble pattern is significantly easier. Also note that when the marble bounces on your head, it refreshes your SAS. Your SAS is OP and you should use it to move around.

Edit: If your group is learning, try having everyone do the marble at once. There is no time pressure on non CM, and doing the marble gives you lots of aegis and invulnerability so you can stay alive.

Out of curiosity, was is the thought behind the marble mechanic? To me, it didn’t feel an organic part of the fractal itself, more a random mechanic added, because more mechanics were felt to be needed.

I think that is what set this apart for me – the mechanics didn’t gel with what was going on around. Much of the other fractals work a) because they are short bursts and b) because the mechanics are organic to the environment. This felt too random or out of place if that makes sense.

Viirastra is innocent and playful, and literally thinks she is playing a game with the players, so marbles made thematic sense. Plus, the marble mechanic combines perfectly with the SAS skill, which brings the joy of movement in this fight to an entirely new level.

Idk if id describe Viirastra like that in the cm version. Yes the marble feels like im playing a game with her. She throws me the ball and its my job to keep it bouncing and sent it back to her. But shes innocent and she doesnt know that ball is a ball of suffering and death. /shrug

I was describing Viirastra, not Artsariiv.

Hm in the cm viirastra has no dialogue so ill take your word on it thought u meant the boss since shes the one throwing the ball iirc.

In the cm, there is no Viirastra. Artsariiv replaces Viirastra as the 2nd boss.

Story missions too unfair for enemies

Skittish.4539

Hey people,

I am finally playing through Living World Season 3 with my other characters. There is one problem, though, which has plagued many missions in Guild Wars 2.

Story missions, especially those with bosses, are way too easy to solo or unfair for enemy bosses. It sucks that you can destroy a lot of bosses so fast. I think that some of them would be okay if you fought them naked but in normal gear they just hit their heads against you. I don’t even need to watch mechanics most of the time, the mobs just melt away. I would like to invite a few guild mates to do the story chapters with me, but that would make it even more boring, since the bosses are already too weak for one player.

I think some mobs could be scaled up and a lot of bosses could do more damage – maybe even as far as 40-50% more damage.

Thanks!

Agreed.

On the other hand the entire region has been altered by Palawa Joko and the Kralkatorrik’s actions. They are the type of things IRL that would trigger species migration and provide evolutionary pressure.

There are actually a bunch of scarabs on the way up to the vista on the northeast side of the demo area. I don’t know if they’re anywhere else though.

Edit: unless regular scarabs don’t count and they have to be jade ones.
They’re also really common around the southern border

couldn’t it just have been normal money? like srsly.. it’s so bothersome ..

Do you mean the portal scrolls? Those don’t really cost that much UM. They don’t cost normal money because Anet wants you to put a tiny bit of effort into the LS3 maps before you buy the stuff there.

As for the best place to farm, last I heard the best place was still bitterfrost frontier. Farm the berries and consume them to convert them into the magic. Pretty sure you’ll be able to fill up the entire tome in less than a day’s work.

Participation:
-Encourages semi-afking for rewards
-Gives stress to players to “always do something or participation will decay”

So participation encourages you to stop playing while simultaneously making you want to play more? Well, this participation system is mighty powerful stuff. I wouldn’t think that was even possible.

“Do something” doesn’t mean actually help the map out.

In pve it does. Any random mob won’t contribute to map meta participation. Only things that count in pve are events, combat hero points (only once a day for each hp) and getting silver and gold in adventures (not sure how you can afk farm an adventure). Them’s the only sources of map meta participation, at least according to the wiki.

Maybe because they disagree that GW2 suffers from any of that, or at least enough of it to be worth complaining about.

Also, by one patch every 2-3 months, I assume you’re referring strictly to new open world pve maps. We’ve had three somewhat significant updates after the most recent episode, which we got just two months ago, and I wouldn’t consider any of the three something to sneeze at.

I haven’t seen any official source even hint about either locations or mounts for the next expansion. As believable as leaks and unconfirmed speculation might be, people using language like “pretty much certain” and saying this or that ‘will’ happen in an expansion that we have zero official information about doesn’t really make sense. We don’t know for sure. Not even close to sure.

Have you personally seen the actual leaked images?
I have and I won’t spoil any further detail on the expansion but let me make a few points on that topic:

- They look absolutely convincingly
- They are not just a quick image from a mount or a excel sheet with some information, they show ingame footage, icons, the gw2 art style, the new expansion theme
- They show the entire maps with all waypoints, names etc

- If anyone faked this, he has done such an amazing job. He has probably put so many work hours in this ‘project’ that he can release the next expansion himself

- Do you really think that Anet, and believe me they have noticed this leak too. Do you really think they would not have said anything about it if this was completely made up? If there was completely false information about their most important upcoming event out there, hyping many people as well as making some of their players unhappy?

-All that anet has done after the leak is confirming that a new expansion will come out on reddit:
“….Yes, that means what you think it means: there’s one more episode after this, and then straight to the expansion pack.”

For me it’s at this point pretty clear that the information we have about the upcoming expansion is not made up.

Did I say it was made up? Don’t think I did. What I’m saying is that it’s not set in stone. Obviously. It isn’t released yet. We have no idea what could or could not change about what’s in those pictures between when those pictures were taken and many many months later when the expansion arrives. I mean, they must be changing something about the expansion or else it would already be here, right? They already had pictures of the finished product. It must be done. Why haven’t they shipped it yet?

Group Content, forced socialization?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Skittish.4539

Skittish.4539

In every MMO I have played, I hear “It’s an mmo you should have to group to do everything”. Is this valid in GW2? As new areas are added, there is of course things you can do solo but for many without uber builds and the best of the best, they cannot. Do they deserve to complete the same story content as others, or should they accept their fate, GG or quit if they prefer no to, or cannot find groups? Some will suffer due to language barriers others don’t run the flavor of the month builds so they aren’t asked or accepted in raids, or they don’t know every facet of every meta and should not even login? Myself, on my Mesmer, I cursed this game and the developers and gave up on the story content once I hit the Silverwastes. Now that my Mes is a chrono, running Berserker, ascended trinkets, etc.. she can go back to running the story content, but I have MMO exp since 2003, so I know how to stay alive, and have the gear to let me (please don’t start giving me build complaints mine works for me, lets stay on topic. I can do the content, this is about those that cannot being left behind and revenues in game being effected by it – if they cannot progress they quit and do not buy future expansions so revs fall).

Sooo is FS the new meta? Will all future expansions have more group content then solo? Will story content always be fair for some and not for others? In GW1 you could offset such issues by using companions. But players whined and complained they couldn’t find groups and shouldn’t need companions. (ummm wat?).

Thoughts? Ideas? Too bad so sad go away?

If you consider the current story ‘group content’, then yes. That adds up to most content being group content. Companions being as powerful as players (there are still companion npcs with you in the story, they’re just really bad at actually helping you, which I’m totally fine with) doesn’t really make sense in an mmo. I don’t think any content, not even story content, should be so incredibly easy that a chimpanzee can beat it using only his toes. If there’s no challenge, there’s no fun.

Problem with Goldsellers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Skittish.4539

Skittish.4539

The Gem / Gold exchange rate does help to prevent in game inflation, but its not the only mechanism, nor the main one.
The biggest stabiliser on ingame inflation is the TP, thanks to its 5% listing fee and 10% selling fee.
Everytime something gets sold on the TP, gold equal to 15% of the sale price instantly vanishes from the game economy.
The biggest source of inflation is vendors, who buy all your junk items and give you gold in return.
Id like to see the vendor economic model altered a bit , so if a particular vendor has bought lots of junk items recently, the price you then get for junk items slowly goes down till it hits zero.
The prices reset the next day.
You could then choose to take a hit on selling your junk, or find another vendor who hasnt bought much .
Vendors located in remote faraway places would buy junk items at higher prices than those in populated areas like the cities.

and how would summoned vendors work?

It should be noted that you cannot, in fact, “buy everything”. Sure, you can find some way to buy a perfect pvp team for pvp wins and you can buy raid carries and dungeon carries and fractal challenge mote carries. But then what are you gonna do while they finish that stuff for you? Literally sit in your chair, staring at the screen while watching someone else complete all the content for you? I guess if that’s your definition of entertainment, go for it.

true, but i think the problem here is “burden of optimal play”. i am a min/max optimum player by heart. if you give me a mechanic which makes me far more proficient in the game i almost garanteed have to use it, it is very annoying for me not to as i feel that others like me will use it and i will be far behind the optimal play.

so it basicly bumps me out and removes most of the fun of playing.

Maybe I’m weird, but for me, the most proficient use of my time in gw2 is spending it learning both prefession skills and mob skills so I know how to counteract them. Optimal gameplay is knowing how to play the game and the encounters in it, and with the minute difference between ascended gear stats and exotic gear stats, having a fat wallet isn’t going to be the biggest factor at all in reaching that optimumness.

Perhaps, those that are concerned about such issues, should exercise caution and wait to acquire content. A bit of research beforehand might alleviate distress in the future. (A bit of ‘look before you leap’, so to speak.)

It’s only a matter of hours, if that long, before the information is on the Wiki or Dulfy.

Good luck.

This would seem like wise advise except that Dulfy doesn’t actually describe what the cats do once in your Home Instance, and the only description in the wiki is “Black cat that fights other cats”.

I’m actually REALLY mystified that people are so against the idea of having more control over their Home Instance. Perhaps they actually object to making the Home Instance controllable for this particular reason, but that’s like saying you don’t want someone to invent a way to make your home fireproof because the person who is suggesting the invention wants to fireproof his home against pyro-kinetics which you think is a silly reason. (But…fireproof home!)

Or maybe they don’t want homes fireproofed because it’s a waste of time and money and the easy and obvious solution is to just be super careful about letting flamethrowers in your house.

[Suggestion]AoE loot show unclaimed loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Skittish.4539

Skittish.4539

Well, frankly. I don’t think you’ve made a good enough argument about how a change like this would advantage more than the few people who don’t want to sell their loot. If it’s supposed to be a time saver, the time it would take for the player to stop playing and evaluate each set of drops then select and keep only the ones they want would add up to far more time than it takes to salvage, send off and later pull out a stack of mats and vendor or directly sale to buyers. So if it doesn’t save time and you lose gold then I’m not seeing an advantage to your suggestion.

The thing is it’s how I play and probably many other players as well who want to explore the map and play with friends without going back and forth to towns/merchants to sell stuff. Again I don’t care about gold and once again, it’s a check box option, you don’t like it, you don’t check it. For me it saves time because really meta event mats are not even worth it to pick up so having this option would save time. Sure, maybe you lose a bit of copper but I could make that copper back by killing another mob and picking up the loot that’s actually worth something instead of wasting a inv slot and bringing it to a merchant.

explore the map and play with friends without going back and forth to towns/merchants to sell stuff.

Are you doing this? Why are you doing this? I’ve never have. That’s very inefficient.

1) my inventory is mostly clean because I salvage and send loot off. I don’t have a full inventory of items that I need to sell.
2) Heart merchants are frequent in most maps. Use them to vendor your runes, sigils and junk. Keep your inventory clean in between time so you don’t have to visit a merchant. Most maps also frequently have merchants. At the end of the play period, waypoint to one, vendor, log off.
3) instead of waypointing to a town, selling and coming back, use the trading post from wherever you are.

having this option would save time.

Actually I think it would take more time than salvaging and sending off. With each loot drop you would have to pause playing, evaluate and then accept or reject the loot you want. And then you would still need to salvage or sell. Since you get loot with each mob you kill you’re pausing to look it over each time. All that adds up and I very much doubt it would take less time overall.

Again you still don’t understand. I DO NOT want to pick up some of the loot. I DO NOT care about the money. I DO NOT want to salvage everything i get. Look at this through my point of view. As well this option WILL NOT affect YOUR gameplay whatsoever. The only time it’s saving it going to a merchant when you’re far out from one. As well, like I mentioned I do metas a lot so most mats from them are worthless as I have multiple stacks of them and they are worth basically nothing on the TP. It will only help people like me and others who also want this (aka a lot of my friends). This is simply a QoL for player who want the option and people who do not just simply don’t use it. Simple as that.

Sorting through the loot before it goes into your inventory is likely going to be just as time consuming as sorting through your loot after it’s in your inventory. If there’s some loot you consider valuable and some you consider trash, you’ll have to look through it regardless. The way I see it, salvage all for specific rarities is the only way to speed up the process. The only other solution I can see would be not picking up any loot at all, ever. Would you rather do that?

Disclaimer: I suppose looking back through this, it might look like I’m making fun of you, but I’m really not. And ‘you’ is you and everyone else. I just find it interesting from the perspective of ‘what we choose to call things’ (like calling the ‘Estate Tax’ the ‘Death Tax’ to illicit a certain reaction, even though the underlying thing it references has not changed).

I wonder how much of this is just because of what they were called. ‘Fighting’ cats. If they were described everywhere as ‘playing’ cats, would you have asked about this. The animation isn’t super specific, they could be fighting or playing, but because they were called ‘fighting cats’ to begin with, that is what you see them doing.

If they renamed them everywhere they are described (including the wiki) as ‘playing’ cats, would that make a difference? Is there something specific about the animation that makes it look like they are fighting and not playing? Or is it mostly that you are ‘told’ they are fighting, so that is what they are doing?

I’m just wondering if they could just change the name of them to ‘playing’ (w/ and w/o snowball) and if that would fix it, or if that ship has sailed, and even if their name is changed, we’d see them as fighting because that is what we were told?

If a new person got them after the name change, would they post a thread that says, “I know they are called ‘playing’ cats, but it ‘really’ looks like they are fighting, and I wish they’d change it so it looked like they were playing”?

As they’re pvp cats, I’d say they’re definitely fighting and also definitely playing.

Idk if anyone else has said it, but these aren’t house cats. You found these cats out in the wild and they only followed you home because you had food. So them behaving like wild cats is pretty much to be expected.

but yesterday we noticed heavily, i’m in a guild with 20 thieves, we discuss those skills a lot.

Yeah. A reference to a disease in the middle of a request for a new outfit just seemed to come out of left field and I wasn’t sure if he meant some obscure meme.

why does it matter? If you don’t have an opinion on the topic don’t reply. I think a summer outfit like that would be awesome.

Isn’t foot fungus a part of the topic though? It is in the original post, after all.

I’m not sure why people expect it to be darker. This isn’t nightfall or anything.

GW2 core also had 33 dungeons when it released.

What?! There were more dungeons earlier and they were all canned??? Nooooo! This is the first time I am hearing about this.

(Note: Even though I purchased the game at release in 2012, I didn’t really start playing it until late 2015.)

As far as I know, only one dungeon path was ever “canned”, and that was replaced by the Aetherpath. 33 dungeons would be the number you arrive at when you include every single path, including story paths. We still have 33.

There is actually a personal story questline that touches on the subject of world domination by Asura. I don’t recall exactly what you have to choose as your starting invention, I think it was that weird box.

You mean the infinity ball? I was watching a really old woodenpotatoes video a couple weeks ago that includes some talk about that exact story step.

Whatever floats your boat kid.

A root beer float could float my boat. Does your fancy dinner party game have root beer floats? That would be the perfect dessert.

As a casual player, i could live with that. Come on people there must be an option and i demand something fair as a Veteran player and wanted to embrace the beauty of Tyria and beyond. But let’s be truth here, if i wanted a hard earn Items i’ll play a different game
something like Crystal Dessert Online and we’re talking about real coin here ladies and gentlemen.

What is Crystal Dessert Online? Is that some kind of fancy dinner party game?

Someone who finds that kind of stuff to be boring without ever having tried the stuff.

I have like 20 points left to go on my leatherworking that I can’t reasonably complete, because each item I craft costs roughly 20 gold. It would take about 200 gold to finish.
Most of them only sell back for ~6-8 gold, because idiots. And can take several days to do so due to low demand.

Could you expand more on the ‘because idiots’?

What would you call it when people craft something, and then sell it for less than it cost them to craft it?

Smart, because then they don’t have to sit on this item that they don’t need or want for who knows how long.

you get 3 plants out of each, but each plant only has 1 hit, so it’s no different from a single normal plant

They hit multiple times for me. Each plant disappears after the first hit, sure. But you still get another 2 hits for every one as long as you let it keep going.
