I am trying to reinstall GW to try the new spvp mode however the game crashes somewhere between 1-25% updated. I have tried multiple times and the same thing happens. A crash report comes up that i send to Anet however I have yet to hear back from them. Any help is appreciated. I can provide the info in the crash report if that would be helpfull.

the OP seems sadly mistaken about the state of this game. The community was initially thriving and as positive as any pvp community can be, however after it became clear Anet had no intention of putting in the work required to make this game live up to its namesake (the original Guildwars) the community started to fall apart. The toxicity of the community is entirely on Anet’s shoulders for not delivering a proper PVP game as was promised.

While I am glad to see some of the needed changes finally coming it really does feel like too little too late. I don’t want to be negative but as someone who has been involved in the Guild Wars pvp community since 2006 I have seen the ups and downs of the franchise (yes the original GW had its share of bad moments think Signet of Ghostly Might, EoE Bomb and of course dropping gold to lag enemy teams in Hall of Heroes)

In my opinion some drastic changes are needed to save this game, the rate at which updates for pvp has been released are pathetic. Leaderboards were released approx. 7 months ago and are still to this day a mess; not to mention matchmaking being horrific, reward and progression system being a joke, the meta/viability of classes and build diversity being crap, and of course the fact that conquest is a horrible game mode which forces teams to bunker and puts more emphasis on standing on a point than anything else in the game and is not in anyway conducive to high end pvp. THINGS NEED TO CHANGE!! releasing patchs every couple of months with minor bug fixes or gameplay changes is not really good enough, Leaderboards, matchmaking, and reward/progression system need to be fixed ASAP (like before 2014 asap)

AND THEN a big shift away from conquest is needed(maybe to a time tested format such as GvG) to draw interest in the game and to really have the game earn its self the right to be called Guild Wars 2.

1) The game needs to get more interesting. As naughty as the twitch gameplay during backstab thief era was, it was fun to play and interesting to watch. There were tankeles that trolled the far point, there were backstab thieves that could counter that, there was diversity. People complained about everything being OP but it was interesting to play back then, there was much more strategy to taking down a great ele, much more depth into playing against a great guard (except for the block bug, that had to go…). Simply said the game was more enticing. Well, it’s not now. Too many dodges, too many cheese cutter builds, too much aoe, no coordination or mechanic play (also, I don’t want to go into “why dodging that has not changed from before is so OP all of a sudden”, but let me give you a hint: there is no clear “big shot” to dodge atm so it’s just spammed randomly?).

Silferas entire post was quality but this one in particular. The balance has gone downhill big time after the first couple months

In January, we said we would be doing custom arenas, leader boards, and spectator mode. We did all of those things.

In July, we said we’re going to do a tournament at PAX, have separate solo and team queues for PvP, add ways to get you progressing towards legendaries in PvP, and updating the reward systems for PvP. We’ve accomplished half of those goals already, and hope to have made some real progress towards rewards/legendaries before the end of the year, which still has 2 months to go. In working on rewards, we decided we wanted to do something that’s very work intensive and much cooler for PvP players, so not all of it will be done this year.

I would like to point out that of the things listed as “complete”

leaderboards- are not working at all as intended and have no relevance in the competitive community at the moment…i wont go into detail we all know about the “top ranked” players playing 1-2 games a month to hold there spots rofl

custom arenas- implemented correctly but caused the skyhammer farming fiasco (which to my knowledge is still a problem)

spectator mode- again implemented correctly for the most part but really only providing a means for the “world” to see how boring conquest+passive/ai driven gameplay can be.

What i dont understand is that there has been no balance?? My team and i quit just about 3 months ago due to the horrific meta and style of play that Anet seemed intent on forcing down peoples throats. Now 4 months down the road it is still the same kittenty meta? I do not in anyway understand this why is this not being addressed?? a revamp to the reward system that took the entire pvp team 6 months to complete is not going to do anything for a game that is as horribly balanced as this game is.

I have said it before i will say it again PASSIVE/AI DRIVEN GAMEPLAY IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO COMPETITIVE PLAY IN ANYWAY GET IT OUT OF HERE!!!!!!! also conquest is not the right choice for an “e-sport” just look at dominion(League Of Legends) does no one on the dev team know what happened with dominion?? ill explain Riot put lots of time/money into dominion (a conquest style map) they had top players and the media praise it and talk about how good it was then they released it to the general public….2 days later 90% of players had tried it and decided it was crap end of story.

I am sorry i do not mean to be negative but what this game has become blows my mind. Guildwars 1 set the foundation for a truly great game to be created but somewhere along the way someone (or a group of someones) was given too much creative freedom and took the completely wrong direction. Look at SC2 they had a great game in the original SC and they knew it so all they did was improve the graphics, add some new units/mechanics, improve the ui and other small changes like that. That was all you needed for gw2 sure you can add some new things such as the dodge mechanic, jumping and maybe a new combat system (all of which are done well in GW2…very well) BUT CONQUEST MY GOD WHY!?!?!? and this whole taking out monks and replacing them with dedicated bunkers….stupid just plain stupid. I would rather watch a monk managing energy, kiting and keeping his team up while watching for dshots, diversions and migraines while his team is keeping up there mid/front lines to prevent enemys from getting through and warriors are back lining when needed, than watch a guardian stand on point and pop boons that are overshadowed by huge amounts of condi coming in.

I will stop there because if i dont i will keep going for hours. But i will say one more thing

If a dev reads this i have two questions i wouldnt mind being answered

- WHY FORSAKE GVG AND HA FOR CONQUEST WHY!?!?!? Yes conquest was apart of ha but a small part that combined with all the other game types/the HA system of fighting your way to halls made it exciting.

-Do you honestly like where the meta is/has been for forever? Do you honestly think passive low risk/high reward AI driven gameplay is really the way to go for an “e-sport”?

The title says it all……the thread in question contained positive feedback, in depth discussion about some of the issues this game is facing and possibly solutions to said issues. Then a nameless moderator comes in and locks the thread claiming the discussion had run its course? that’s like ending a meeting with your bank manager because you don’t like him telling you to be more careful with your investments or leaving the doctors office because you don’t like him telling you that you need to start exercising regularly….stupid as hell in other words.

I do not understand Anets thinking behind this? Threads like “Will you still play if patch sucks?” and “Thought this was sad enough to make a thread” are left to fester and rot stinking up the entire pvp section while thought/discussion provoking threads are locked??? im sure “Will you still play if patch sucks?” is drumming up lots of useful feedback and suggestions……………..I honestly do not understand what is going on at Anet or what has been going on at Anet these past years since GW2 started development.

Get over yourselves… you aren’t “Pro” because you are playing a class which plays differently.

Despite his large vocabulary the OP seems totally clueless of the fact that for a “competitive” pvp game to be truly competitive you cannot force people to play passive mindless builds that are all low risk high reward. Its not exciting to watch, to play or to be involved with in anyway and it does not promote competitive play at all. The proof is in the numbers i mean look at how many people have stayed and continued playing through this meta…very few and those who still remain are for the most part casuals and pvpers who would rather be known in a small game bad game then just another faceless player struggling to get somewhere in a large successful game…..egotists for the most part.

A lot of you guys suffer from expectation bias. You believe, certify and speak on things based on how you feel other players should “reasonably” adjust and grasp mechanics within the game.
You then disbelieve, discard, or downgrade the corresponding weightings for the data that appear to conflict with those expectations.

Despite the fact that many of the noobs here have failed to grasp the importance of what the OP is getting at this is a huge issue. R50 is no small feat (time wise of course NOT skill wise) it takes quite a few months of playing on a daily basis for a couple hours (3-4 months?) Imagine if PvP players were going into dungeons and farming the equivalent of 3-4 months of gold in 2 weeks? The situation would be dealt with before 2 weeks was even up and i bet the vast majority of people who were involved in this exploit would receive some kind of punishment. NOT IN PVP THOUGH! we get a fix that doesnt even address the problem and then a vague statement from a dev about something possibly maybe happening in the future to rectify this…ROFL!

I posted about this once months ago and i was reassured by a dev that decay was working properly and that they would be looking at how it was working and tweaking it as needed. This was obviously either an outright lie or for some reason Anet thinks their leaderboard is working fine and needs no changes now, either way it baffles me that it is still so messed up. I couldn’t bring myself to watch the latest SOTG not after seeing grouch in an Anet shirt and steppenwolf as the interviewer but was anything mentioned about the state of the leaderboard? if so i would be interested in hearing what they had to say

It kills me because this game could be so much more and I had so much friggin faith in Anet especially after GW1.

I owe my love of competitive gaming to Guild Wars 1 that game was a huge part of my childhood and still to this day i apply the lessons and things i learned in gw1 not only to other games but to real life. It didnt matter that some of the balance was a little questionable at times (Hexway, Heroway, Iway, EoE bomb) the quality of the gameplay and community made sure that gw1 stayed fun and exciting. I still speak to 6 of my former guildmates and a few other friends from GW do any of them play GW2? no none….they all now play either LoL or CS and we are all of the opinion that GW2 is basically a huge slap in the face to those of us who played Guild Wars. Obviously some things were going to be different in GW2 no one was expecting the same game (Althought i saw someone suggest they just re release GW with better graphics, jumping and a few other changes and i can tell you right now i know MANY people who would play the hell out of that) but i feel like the only thing they carried over from GW was the name…..Why forsake GvG and HA two of the greatest pvp game modes in the history of competitive gaming for a conquest game mode that is very 1 dimensional?? HA already had a conquest map or two….it was one of many many game modes HA had to offer!!! Am i the only one who feels Anet took a step backwards there? ALSO where are the Automated tournaments?? that is another groundbreaking thing that GW did and did well that should have been planned to be released in at least the first year of GW2! Another mind blowing thing is the reward system we have here, the GW reward system after they released pvp only items was and still is miles ahead of the GW2 reward system….why?? I do not mean to be negative or put the Devs or Anet down but i truly do feel like this game in its current state is a huge slap in the face to those of us who loved GW

There is a ton of good suggestions and feedback here i hope that i hope the devs are reading! In regards to the balance issue i think that as long as the balance team and the pvp devs are separate entity’s this game will not have any sort of balance when it comes to pvp. Trying to balance this game for WvW PvE AND PvP with no to very little difference from one game mode to another is just plain stupid, what applies to groups of 25+ zerging a keep does not apply to groups of 5 trying to win a capture point style of game of pvp and what applies to groups of people trying to do dungeons and kill npcs with 10000000000 health again does not apply to pvp ESPECIALLY in this game it seems. Many of the things mentioned here that would be good changes for pvp such as less dodge rolls, the spamability of condis and condi removal and the huge amount of over the top CC’s are things probably do not apply to pve and wvw and if changed would probably cause some big waves in those 2 game modes and if that is on the balance teams mind as they attempt to balance this game it will not work.

I will start off by saying that my team and i have been playing GW2 pvp since about a week after release, i will not try and say that we are a top pvp team but i think it would be fair to say we have been a competitive pvp team under the names Team Iceberg and 50 Shades Of Pink.

Now after many many months of putting alot of time and effort into GW2 we have decided as a group to take a break and move to another game. We feel (as do many many others) that the meta right now is crap plain and simple and that this is the worst spot the game has been in since release, no one wants to play condi wars the game we signed up for is Guild Wars! No one wants to play a game where each class has only 1 viable build and where 2-3 of the spots in a 5 man team are decided by the meta and whats “op” at the moment, And on top of that the decision to wait till after Pax to release a balance patch blew my mind! All the players involved in Pax really want this game to succeed im sure you could have gone to them and said “we cant let the game fester like this for 2 months+ we will be patching before Pax” maybe even let them all on the test servers ahead of time to start figuring out what they are going to run, or you could have done like many other games and run the tournament on a previous patch? (probably not able to do this would be my guess)

Now the meta is the biggest complaint we have right now but there are 2 more somewhat minor complaints that did play a part in our decision.

1. Lack of features! The ladder is a joke (decay!?! lol) there is no difference between ranked and non ranked games because of this the ladder looses all meaning! You cant say ok lets run a few non ranked get warmed up then when we are feeling good we will run a ranked or two, because of this the “ranked” games loose all meaning as well as the ladder its self. Also the team ladder needs to be a team ladder you need to be able to play with your core team and work on a rank as a group then after go mess around with some friends and not have to worry about it affecting the rank that you are working on grinding with your team. All that could be forgiven if we had some sort of automated monthly and weekly tournaments to look forward/practice for and just to generally get excited about! Automated tournaments are (besides gvg, ha and huge team comp diversity) the best thing GW1 ever did these NEED to be implemented into the game RIGHT AWAY!!

2. Last but not least the pvp rewards. I wont go into detail here the reward system atm is crap. You only get anything new every 10 levels, everyone gets the same stuff, the chests after rank 30 become a serious case of carpal tunnel waiting to happen without actually providing anything in return other than the odd glory booster and sliver (which by now most people have 2-3 full stacks of)

Well thats all i have to say, hopefully some of these changes that are so desperately needed are made soon and on that day my entire team and i will come back running.

Due to recent schedule changes one of our core players has had to step back into more of a sub role so we are looking for 1 more core player preferably a Guardian but we would also consider a Thief who can also play at least 1 more dps class.

If you are interested please read over the following and after that if you are still interested you can contact me in game through pm or mail (Spelling B Champ.3264) or on these forums through a private mail.

- Monday, Thursday, Sunday guaranteed play times 7:30-10:30 PDT with possible play times Tuesday and Wednesday (we do not play Friday Saturday unless there is a tournament or something important)

- Must have a mic+ts and must be vocal

- No scrubs! if you spend a lot of your time talking kitten in the mists and constantly telling everyone how bad they are then dont bother msging me

- Must be able to give/take constructive criticism without turning into a whining 12 year old

That’s about it rank is pretty much a non factor i have seen too many r50 hotjoin heros who are less help than a Rock Dog and too many r20 pvers who understand the game better than 10 hotjoin heros put together to put any stock at all in rank. That being said please understand we are a competitive pvp team so anyone not already playing at a high level or showing potential to play at a high level will not be accepted. Sooo hope to hear from some of you soon!

When will the guilds involved be notified and when will the brackets be finalized? While the brackets being finalized isnt a huge issue it would be nice for the teams who are going to be involved to know for sure a couple days in advance. A Friday afternoon email saying “btw you play tomorrow at noon” or “your in but you wont be playing till Sunday” is kind of a hassle for those of us who are trying to plan our weekend around this event.

I have been watching the leaderboard since May and i have seen zero decay if you are right and the decay was implemented this last patch (which i really hope it was) then this post was for nothing…lets hope your right and it has already been put in

You forgot to mention the fact that you are able to farm rank much quicker mindlessly zerging around in hotjoins than you can actually doing tournaments?!?! where is the logic there now there is tons of rank 40+ noobs running around who have no clue what teamwork is or how to actually play the tournaments as they are meant to be played which in effect makes rank completely useless in every way.

Not a whole lot to be said here the title pretty much sums it up. I have friends on the leaderboard who have not played in over a month yet they are still sitting in top 100 spots!?!?? sometimes when people above them loose they even move up a spot or two! This is ridiculous its not as if ladder decay is some strange new concept its something that every serious ladder in the world has…so with that being said can we get some sort of conformation from a Dev that some sort of ladder decay is at least in the works?

Yeah the warrior NEEDS some changes to make it viable Anet has already said they can balance PvP separately from PvP so affecting PvE isnt even a worry? I think one of the next patches they really need to focus on getting the warrior and necro to a lesser extent back to a place where they are viable in TPvP

I find it appalling that this even needs to be brought up WTF are they doing over at Anet do they want this game to succeed? or are they trying to get rid of the PvP community and just turn it into a noobcentric pve/wvw game?

Try to think about that from the position of the developer that wants to earn money with that game – what would you care more about? pve or pvp?
PvP does not create any kind of profits. PvP players dont spend money in the shop(Because they dont get anything out of it except 1 skin-set. and that stupid backpack thingy. wow.). So why should they care about them?

There is many examples of PvP based games doing well right now look at LoL that game brings in majority of its revenue from its cash shop not to mention games that dont have any sort of cash shop or subscription fee such as Counter Strike and Starcraft yet all these games are doing very well. There is huge money to be made in PvP ESPECIALLY for those games considered e-sport but they have to invest the time and money to get there before they will see the return, and if they dont PvP will die and at that point they should just change the name of the game to Zerg Wars or maybe PvE Wars so they can fade into nothing like soo many games before them without disgracing the great PvP game that was the original Guild Wars

Yeah i have been wondering about this for a while but i think at this point QP rewards are probably so far back on the list of things Anet needs to do it would be best to just assume they are never coming so when they do 6 months from now it will be a nice suprise

Yeah he used the term “pro” way too loosely but aside from that he makes some good points the pvp community is kind of ridiculous right now but i think it will grow and get better as the game grows and gets better and you cant really expect much to change before that.

Yeah I really do not understand Anet when it comes to communicating with the community. What happened to the blog post that was supposed to be coming after the last SOTG i haven’t seen any?? and the “secret projects” that they kept alluding too that was just stupid what are they letting us know by saying that? That they are working on the game??? of course they are working on the game that is their job. If big game changing changes are coming you need to let people know so that some of the many people who have quit or who have gone to other games to wait for new features will hear about it get excited and come back. Where as now its almost like letting the community know was an afterthought if Anet isn’t excited enough about these changes to promote them and make an effort to get the word out then a large portion of these players who have gone to other games wont be excited about them or even hear about them and many of them will not come back. Same goes for new players coming in I bet the majority of information these people are getting is negative and 95%of it coming from the community and from people who have quit 4% from sixth month old articles quoting Jon Peters about things that aren’t even viable anymore and 1% from official Anet sources. things need to change

GvG (pre VoD nerf) and HA were two of the greatest pvp modes ever created as well as the reward and ranking system that went along with them. I do not understand why Anet would not build on the huge success of the pvp modes of the first game. Coming from someone who has been a huge GW fan since prophecys i am REALLY hoping that Anet is able to see their mistakes and turn the game around before it is too late.
