Heyo. I’ve been playing GW2 since launch, however I have never really delved into much higher end content b/c a lack of community can make it pretty boring and difficult at times which usually makes me leave the game for a while only to come back months later and everything has changed. As a result I barely know most dungeons, only once done fractals, rarely done WvW and don’t know anything about the mists.

Despite the above I’ll always return help when given, even as far as to chauffeur newbies around a low level map. I’m mainly looking for a guild that accepts casual players, is laid back (not easily offended) and mature. By the latter I mean more mindset than age group. I’d prefer not to have to hold back on typing arbitrarily defined words just because one or two people are too mentally young to handle it. I don’t even care if you’re a small guild, as long as you’re all consistently active around the same time.

Please do me a favour and tell me a little about your guild. What do you do for fun? How many members do you have? What’s your guild’s goal in the game?

I’m not in an artists/ writers guild nor do I run one but I am an artist, located on TC and 25. Would you mind if I add you in game?

Dude, don’t do it. I was in the same position and forked out 2k for an alienware mx 14 laptop. It was the biggest waste of money in my entire life. Those laptops purely and simply cannot handle the game. They will overheat like crazy, have terrible FPS (remember to consider monitor refresh rates, my mx 14 only had a 40hz moniter which resulted in extremely low fps no matter how low the game settings were). The greatest irony is that is was advertised as being able to play GW2.

The brand ‘Alienware’ used to mean something when they were an independent company but since they’ve been bought out by Dell, they rely on the old reputation to sell what is essentially just a premium label. My laptop only lasted 2 years before the hardware completely failed and not even 6 months before it started becoming utter crap.

My advice is Alienware or not, don’t bother using laptops for gaming. Buy a generic consumer end laptop for studies, but invest in a custom build for gaming so you can ensure that every part of your pc is what /you/ want and need and it’s also infinitely cheaper in the long run compared to a premade build.

Maybe it’s just my experience that I have such a heavy bias against laptops for gaming. My boyfriend chips in that he used to have a Toshiba laptop that was only thing that could run Elder scrolls 4 Oblivion at the time. However he also says he thinks the only way you could have sufficient cooling in a laptop for gaming is if it’s a 17" or larger.

A bit about me: I’m a casual player from Australia in an NA timezone. I’ve been playing GW2 since release on and off. I’m now invested in the game permanently and working towards ascended gear. My main character is a lv 80 support based Guardian. I’m mainly PvE player however I will try PvP with groups.

What you will get from me: I won’t beg or spam for help with content, I’m highly independent in game play but I’ll assist with guild events if needed + I have the time. I enjoy going out of my way to assist newbies and lower levels. I’m not easily offended and can take a joke. If you’re the right fit, I’m extremely loyal.

What I’m looking for: I don’t want to join just another name, I’ve been in too many guilds where I didn’t click and felt like we were wasting each other’s time. I’m not really interested in your tag lines, member numbers or achievements as much as I am your community. So instead of the typical cut and paste recruitment messages that I always get on the forums or in game I’d like you to convince me to join your guild by telling me about your community.

What’s your philosophy, what kind of people are you? What is your sense of humour like? What does your guild do in it’s down time? How do you define ‘maturity’, and how much does it matter to you? (There’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers)

With an older processor and a newer demanding game you’re going to have a hard time getting stable fps no matter what you try to tweak. On intel’s page it lists the i3-550’s status as End of Life. http://ark.intel.com/products/48505/Intel-Core-i3-550-Processor-4M-Cache-3_20-GHz It may be time to upgrade.

Just putting it out there that this game doesn’t really punish you for making the wrong class choice. Leveling is a sinch and you can always just buy new character slots or delete undesired ones.

It’s not kit exclusive. My guardian used to have that face and I made her before all the new options came out. You just have to play with the sliders. kolompi is right though, the hair requires a hair kit at the very least.

Don’t know if I’m late to the punch here but my boyfriend and I were going through his guardian’s story (noble path) and we were kinda taken aback about how apparently incompetent both his character and Logan Thackery/ the Seraph are.

I don’t have screenshots to show and I’ll have to paraphrase a bit here, but here we go. His character goes to the bandit caverns with Lord Faren to save the kidnapped civillians. Upon reaching the farm house exit, the Seraph and Lord Faren are present. Faren mentions a merchant by the name of Cin Furasai who can identify a piece of paper/ customer of the paper that was found in the caverns (I think, wasn’t entirely paying attention here).

So his chaacter then offers to go Cin Furasai herself so that “no one has to know the Seraph are involved”. Ignoring the fact that the Seraph could easily send in an undercover agent instead of a random civllian (although in this world all these orders and militaries seemingly like to behave like children, pretending that information gathering is immoral or something), when your character meets Cin Furasai they say:

“Please. It’s important. The Seraph are investigating this matter.” I find it weird that the story just seems to make all these NPCs out to be complete morons in order to bolster your own character’s importance, only to have them make outrageous mistakes anyway.

My human ele wears Heritage coat, Vigil headband, (any ele circlet looks nice too) Aetherblade leggings, Embroidered gloves and Vigil boots. It’s more of a practical, less fancy fluff, more covered look. The stripes on the coat and leggings helps tie the two together as well.

My boyfriend has a Sylvari Engineer and it’s awesome. The sylvari racial skills (including one elite) are also turrets which are an awesome compliment for the class.

What server are you guys located on?

Timezone:
Mountain Time (US & Canada). I play in the evenings most weekdays and weekends.

Play style:
Casual PvE player. Will do WvW with a guild. Interested in dungeons, never done them before. Morbid curiosity in roleplaying, will likely suck at it.

Pref guild type:
Much, much prefer a small tight knit community. I’m done with guilds that have so many numbers where they overwhelm the names and people hardly talk unless they need something. I’m in a guild for the community, I just want a guild that does random fun stuff together.

What I offer:
Actively helpful and assisting of lower level players/ other members once I trust and get a feel for the guild. Majority of my characters are designed for support play styles.

Only interested in guilds located on Tarnished Coast. I’m not willing to switch as my boyfriend’s account is located here also. (No, he is not interested in a guild.)

I have my own guild which is just used solely as a shared bank account between myself and him. I will still 100% rep your guild.

Can’t say for sure but my best guesses are:

Blue: Iron
Red: Autumn
Brown: Natural, Mushroom or Taupe
Gold: Antique Gold, Refresh, Ivory or Tarnished Silver
White: White or Celestial
Black: Black or Pitch

They look like these colours I commonly use but I don’t know for 100% because colours are affected by the individual armour set / material. Either way, majority of the dyes listed are pretty cheap.

It’s either the head too big or the helmet making his head look really big.

I named my female Asura warrior Limeball. Some time ago I looked up the lore and it happened to fit. At least, for a male Asura. Oh well. If she had a personality she’d be a tomboy anyway.

I want to throw in the quirky name my boyfriend gave his male Asura mesmer too. He named him ‘Quarksly’.

My boyfriend named his Charr thief Rage Flashclaw . Wanting mine to be considered to be in the same warband as his, I named my fire/ lightning elementalist Lyra Flashbang.

Can’t say I know much about Norse mythology, but it sounds like a Norn enough name for me. 9/10

Personally I’m not entirely creative with names, I only set a minimum standard for meeting cultural lore.

(Ellika was named after a best friend from primary school who was Swedish. The ‘Warmaster’ addition comes from being in the vigil and someone already had the name. I prefer titles over surnames if I can’t have just one name.)

Try red + blue, red+ green or red + turquoise. With the right shade, they create a lovely complimentary scheme. Here’s some palette ideas:

Seems like they couldn’t really add extra cultural armour without shoehorning it in, but maybe new racial armours could be added as rewards elsewhere? I’d really like more options for every race beyond the dungeons and cultural tiers.

Sorry, forgot to add I already submitted a ticket. Just wanted to add to the list in case other people were currently having the same problems, since most responses are months old. Just a tad disappointed cause it’s the weekend and I wanted to get limited items but I won’t get a response until after the sale is done.

Just wanted to add I’m also having issues. I bought gems 3 days ago, and 2 days ago the store has not been letting me buy any more because of the ‘unexpected error’ on card or paypal.

Also highly recommend not getting an alienware laptop. I have one I bought 2 years ago and it’s a piece of crap. What’s hilariously sad is they even advertised GW2 on it but it barely plays. My boyfriend tried to optimize it multiple times, it was advertised to do some things it never does thanks to bugs and has massive problems with overheating despite the fan sounding like a beast. I have to have some form of external cooling like sitting it on a covered ice pack or a fan going just so it can maintain running GW2 at extremely low FPS rates.

Any event will get me kicked out almost immediately because it cannot handle the game period. My boyfriend built his desktop PC custom 5 years ago and it runs the game smoother than a baby’s bottom, even in big events. I agree with Chaotic, Alienware is a brand, not a gaming pc.

Have you tried messing around with skin patterns + colours more? Try colour compliments?

My Banana skinned Sylvari’s bright blue eyes for some reason a really dull and almost black during day time. But the bright purple hair against the gold skin makes her stand out anyway.

I’ve been playing GW2 since release but on and off because it got boring never having anyone to play with. I mean I was in guilds but I always ended up being ignored after the guild got big and old members moved on. I used to be on Dragonbrand but changed servers to Sanctum of Rall to be in a guild with friends that has since died. Now I’m back but having trouble finding friendly guilds in SoR or just finding people to play with in general. I want to change to a new US based server, any recommendation? What are the general atmospheres or communities like there?

Yeah I had thought of that too, in the picture it was very much designed around her face. I think it can be done just by raising it off the body? It’d look like it’s floating a bit on the side but from the front it’d look like it’s resting on the skin. I think it’s the same principal for long hair at the back. :S

So I don’t know if Kristen Perry is still monitoring this thread but here goes my late input. I just started a floral design course last week and I was already thinking of random hairstyles for sylvari, then I saw this thread and got super super excited. To address something mentioned earlier first:

As far as conventional beauty standards and ‘uniqueness’ go for faces + hair, I think customization should be about giving people the option to make what they want with what they /like/. By all means though, keep them looking like trees and plants. I’ve just always been one for balance and I’d even use both typically pretty and abstract faces myself.

If I had a say in hairstyles, I’d personally like to see some kind of thick bodied curls. I know curls are usually shafted in games because it’s seemingly labour and processing intensive, but I like to think there’s a way to make it work with textures and layers. I’m not an expert though haha. In any case, I’d really like something like this:

(The ferns if kept could remain green for neutrality and the flower, pink pearl grevillea, could possibly be a dye-able accessory.)

There’s a look my engineer had before that was dark but I changed it for a bold orange + purple + blue scheme. In any case if you want dark + purple, go to your character creator and try Marionberry skin tone, peach skin pattern, peach glow and peach sunset hair colour. Works best with pine or peach coloured eyes. For armour though bright colours won’t look so great. It looked best with desaturated colours and tints unless and until you get cultural armour, which can handle brighter colours because of the texture.

Usually I’m a fan of contrast (makes or breaks a picture) but I don’t think the white really works for you even with the hair, it overpowers it if anything. It wouldn’t be as bad if there were more breaks in the armour for the black skin. I say the black scheme and make the red on the armour a shade lighter + brighter if possible (It’s a dull in comparison to the red on the sword and doesn’t stand out from the black enough). But I’m also partial to ‘breaking the rules’ as the white/ blue can be seen as very stereotypical or common for a guardian look.

At the end of the day, just go for what you want.

Hi, I’m interested in joining if I can? I’m on Sanctum of Rall. I have 5 level 80s and levelling my last 3 characters but I’ve never actually played any of the level 80 content or maps, so despite playing since release I’m still new to a large portion of the game. I’m a casual player, interested in (hopefully) making friends, but I’ll do events/ wvw/ dungeons etc if it’s in my time.

Sam Ironskull – 8/10 – I like it, fantasy-ish but not over the top or pretentious.

Names I wanted to give my characters were taken so I just gave them irrelevant prefixes/ titles. I really don’t like last names and avoid them where possible.

I messed around quick in the character creator.
Hair colour I’m 90% sure is called Red Orange, skin colour is likely (burnt?) cinnamon. Keeping in consideration the light of the screenshot, colours you pick in character creator turn out far lighter in the general world. Eye colour I don’t think is available at all, even in the thingy you buy from the cash shop to modify your appearance only gives you bright purple or blue eyes and their darker variants.

Closest you’ll get to it is pale blue green, sorry. :\

I’m a casual gamer from Australia, currently in Canada. I’m over 18, prefer a guild that has a relaxed atmosphere especially concerning speech and behaviour. You don’t need 9000 rules telling me how not to be a jerk, I promise. I don’t mind general swearing.

Been playing GW2 since it came out. I have a Guardian, Necromancer and a Ranger all at level 80 but I never really played any level 80 content or did any dungeons. Trying to level my Elementalist, Warrior and Mesmer to 80. I consider my main/ favourite to by my Guardian. Have 3 of the master race (Asura), two humans and a sylvari.

GW2 is spilt between my other hobby, art. I’ll spend a few days at that then a few days on GW2. When I do get on here, I try to do as much as possible to progress. Mostly just do PvE, wouldn’t be beyond me to try WvW with other people though. Just looking for a relaxed community to fit in with and not be bored out of my brains while playing.

Sooo I had task manager running while I patched GW2 for a bit (Also tried the repair thing) and it started out as 20 – 30% CPU usage then started to rocket up towards 60% when it got closer to 1% download progress. I tried patching another MMO for the same amount of time and it stayed at 1 – 14%. What on earth is going on?

Hello! I made a topic before but no one answered, plus I have more information this time. My boyfriend and I stopped playing Guild Wars 2 a bit for 3 weeks. Now I’ve come back to it wanting to play and there’s a massive patch to download, about 200,000+ files. Is that right? Everytime I got past 1% though, my pc instantly shut down.

At first I thought it was over heating but this last two times certainly wasn’t the case, it wasn’t even hot at all. I patched another MMO which also has an equally big update to test and it got to 10% fine. I asked my boyfriend to patch his GW2 and tell me if there were the same amount of files he had to download, he said he only had 5,000. That’s weird? We stopped playing and started again at the same time. Is something wrong with my client?

Hello! I’ve been playing basically since GW2 came out and I’ve never had this issue before. I stopped playing for a few weeks since last month because I had to move houses. Now that I wanted to go back to it, I see there’s a big patch. Every time my pc tries to download it though it starts to overheat like crazy (my room isn’t hot or anything – it’s quite cold actually) and shut down. I make sure no other programs are running while it’s doing that but it still doesn’t change anything.

It is a laptop but it usually has no trouble handling something simple like a patch, or the game itself. I tried defrag, cleaning disk, deleted some old programs and such. I’m not really tech savvy so I’m not sure what’s causing the problem and I need answers explained in dumb speak please. xD

I sent a ticket in a while ago to ask if this was actually allowed. It’s been done on MMO’s I’ve played in the past but some of them barred it for legal reasons. Fan artist players would usually set up their own thread or shop in the fan forums and offer fan art of other player’s characters for in-game coin, usually set at their own prices. The answer I got back from a GM said this seemed like it would be against the ToS but she’d suggest the idea to the devs anyway.

I figured I’d put this up in the suggestion forum anyway. I don’t know how people feel about it. I like doing fan art for players normally but it does take up my time and I don’t like being treated as a printing press when I offer freebies, so I prefer to ask for some kind of compensation, usually in game coin because very few people are ever reluctant to commission me for real money. It helps me keep afloat in the game economy too because I’m not a hard core player.

People have mentioned fears over either party ripping each other off, but there are methods you can use to prevent it. I normally ask for 50% of the total price before hand and 50% after it’s done. It helps protect both myself and the buyer. If any buyer had no intention of paying at all they’re stone walled by an upfront %. If I had no intention of returning the product.. well I suppose it only takes one buyer being ripped off before my reputation is tarnished as a whole and any other potential coin I could have earned is now gone.

Figured I’d drop it in this forum though and see how it’s received.

Hi there. I’m Spud, and I like to draw shiz. I made an Asura on a whim one day and instantly fell in love with them. Their stories, their culture, their attitudes and most of all their looks were inspiring. I wanted to challenge myself to draw them to familiarize myself with their facial structure since I’ve hardly ever drawn anything outside of human. I got my guildies to post screenshots of their Asura so I could borrow their portraits for my little project. So here’s the result of my exploration, enjoy.

I feel like the hype got me more excited and expectant than what it should have been – but overall I’m still satisfied with the game and don’t feel like it went to waste. Having my boyfriend play through it with me (who leans more towards FPS style games) helped open my eyes a bit towards areas GW2 could really improve on combat wise and other things, but I’d still like to see where GW2 goes in the coming years with future content/ changes.
