(edited by Stego.3148)
Sorry if I missed this in the patch notes.
I just salvaged 5000 cof marks converting them into helmets for salvage. I never received more then 1 ecto per hit. I recall usually getting 1-3 per salvage before and have it video documented in my epic world first 20,000 cof mark salvage. Was this just changed today? I checked my records and did receive 1-3 ectos per hit from a mass salvage I did last week.
Edit 5000 cof marks = 166 salvages. You used to get about .9 ectos per salvage using master kits. I got 80~ ectos which is around a .5 per salvage. Which seems to be a 50%~ nerf
My theory so far is that either the lvl of the item (cof is 70) effects the chances or just dungeon bought rares had a nerf where they can only give 1 ecto now while others still can give more. Or that there is truly a 1 ecto per salvage limit with same proc chance reducing the rate from .9 to .5~.

Salvage rates have been corrected!
Despite randoms accusing a conspiracy theory the truth came out and salvage rates were off and were corrected by some of the best staff support I’ve seen in an MMO to date. Salvage rates should be correct now and returned to their .9 rate of ecto with master kits and everyone may salvage once again.
I want to say thank you to the community that was open minded enough to assist in this study and to John Smith for some of the best staff support I’ve seen in an MMO. Although I did have to take a hard hit of 2-4 infractions to deal with the trolls while making my point.
Special thanks to Geotherma who did all of the work and brought his reputation and research to get this problem resolved after the community hurt my feels to much and I had to leave.
Perhaps some gloating at the Stego haters that tried to call me out, and label me a conspiracy theorist or “like all the other ecto posts” specifically Aeonblade.8709.
Thanks everyone for helping to resolve this and although I wish I could have my 8000 cof marks back to resalvage this engagement on the forums was overall quite fun and worth it.
I’d like everyone to take some time and check out the art work of my character I made at the start of my salvage proof video to celebrate:

ANET could do worse than examine the masters of MMO’s..yes Blizzard and really investigate why an 8 year old game still trounces every new mmo release to the market…The simple answer is it listens. And Content..lots of it. They have a brand new 12 boss raid…what do we have?? Banging some fences in the snow and npcs we could care less for…
Actually not true. Blizzard analyzed the most popular and most played mmo of all time which is farm ville for their current game model. This goes a lot deeper then purely adding an actual farmville to their game by the as this game plan began implementation in mid Wotlk in making content appeal and tap into the huge player base farmville has and gain it on a subscription and microtransaction level.
Gw2 by that logic should analyze Farmville, but I love gw2 and have never had interest in farmville
Art work in this game is amazing I agree 100%
The fact is that currently WOW has 8million plus subscribers and is the leading MMO by far. I can’t go back because I really like the initial premise of GW2..however, I respect the fact they constantly churn out content and listen to the fans. SOmetimes I really feel that Anet comes across as disingenuous and arrogant in its dealings with the playerbase.
Farmville is the leading mmo with 63+ Million active players. It’s a mindless cashcow game built to maximize cashcow, WoW Copied this business model in most of it’s design. MMO’s had a lot more integrity pre-wow and gw2 has always been a huge breath of fresh air.
The less wow the better.
My 9 year old step daughter logs in and runs around and jumps off bridges and says “Weeeeeeeeeeeee” as she does it, then she dyes her armor. Once this is done she logs out and writes a story about all her gw2 characters then she reads it to me. You could try this ? She seems to have a lot of fun doing this.
regardless of how you got it, a fused weapon sends the message that you gambled 100$ of RL money on it. Legendaries while purchasable with RL money still have an element of farming and in game pride. These things will be released regularly so Fused weapon is the first of many many one time skins that have to be gambled for. Unless you are a Dubai prince or something you won’t be able to obtain them all so just get whatever you want. No one at any time in the future will care if you have a fused weapon I promise and it doesn’t make you look more elite ever.
They all look average (preference is irrelevant, that’s the truth). If they were on a dungeon token they would would be one of the least popular sets. Not to mention that’s one single weapon on one alt.

Hey, I check in here every few days, I post rarely on game forums.
With all the bad reviews and complaints I see here I can’t even believe we are playing the same game. GW2 has been the only MMO by a long shot worth mentioning in the last 5 years. It is amazing, unique and fresh, has a range of content from faceroll to very technically challenging, beautiful visuals and completely free of a monthly sub.
I’ve played since beta, leveled 2 classes to 80, and have various alts. One I leveled primarily by myself (and some wow guildies sometimes) and had to reroll a couple times for appearance reasons the other I leveled with my GF. Solo was fun and fluid but team play was a lot more fun and my experience wasn’t hindered. The ability to meet up regardless of level difference was incredible and made playing with my people easy.
Gameplay
The game play follows modern mmo philosophy of not a lot of moves equipable at once (I’m usually frustrated with the dumbing down of the MMO and action rpg genre.). Respecing partially is easy and can be done on the fly to give flexibility and lets knowledge and experience of certain fights empower you. GW2 handles this system very well. Combat is fun and active. The classes handle remarkably different. Each class is very flexible and certain fights demand that flexibility on the fly or in your rotation.
The World
The world is beautiful with amazing landmarks and structures. There are unique and intricate cave systems tunnels bridges and buildings, colossal structures amazing mountain and ruined city sky lines. The detail is truly amazing for an MMO. The cities are also the most visually impressive of any MMO I’ve played. The characters and animations are much more tolerable especially on the females then any other MMO I’ve played to date also.
There’s enough map to explore that it would take 3+ characters just from leveling to experience them all. You can farm in any zone for a change of scenery that you’re in the mood for. Most farm in Orr and for an end game zone it feels more end game then most MMOs have the balls to do. It’s tight packed with monsters very stressful and intense especially when first starting there. It’s visually amazing in a bleak and depressing apocalyptic kind of way. It’s more effective farming to stand at a few events all day but not by much, it does get repetitive but other zones are close to equally farmable and being mobile doesn’t slow your farm down to much.
Dungeons
I’ve completed all explorable dungeon paths minus one wing of Arah. The wings have enough variety that I feel like they can legit boast at least 25 unique 30 minute – 1+ hour dungeon experiences (there’s 34+ I know but considering the overlap I’ve come up with the number 25). Some of the fights are forgiving and tank and spank and others are very exciting technical and demanding on par with the more difficult heroic fights of wow, and can be a rush to complete correctly. (The ability to res people mid fight and run back from the waypoint makes them all very forgiving but it terms of perfection in player execution they can be immense challenges.)

F i average about 10g avagering 10 mins per-run. ( pugs )
Don’t know what that means but if you mean 10g per hour that’s only theoretically possible in the most ideal situations that most likely don’t actually happen, especially after the first 30 minutes of farming.
Speed run groups will average the same as pugs because the guy that types in all caps in broken english shouting orders in every group that links a dusk every other chest will kick half the group because one person killed an acolyte out of order then the group will disband, and you have to wait to find another one then this happens again.
Also the special warrior that doesn’t know how to do the 4 gate totems sneaks in every other time someone leaves and runs from totem to totem for 2-3 minutes which makes you lose even more gold in a speed run.

I think “we” will live without being forced to view YOUR shield at optimal maximum at all times while gaming. Expecting them to rework one of the nicer buff visuals that this game has. seems a bit ridiculous.
I don’t really have a need to see your shield and would rather be focusing on combat than zoomed in on your Legendary at the time your aegis visual is active. I’ve seen Flameseeker on countless people and was able to view it absolutely fine and aegis has made my own shields look more awesome on various occasions, specifically Fractal Shield.
Infact I can view the legendary and it’s effects just fine in both those pictures in the second post.
(edited by Stego.3148)
Because player B provides the muscle to drag player A through difficult content that player A is unable to handle without help from player B, especially dungeons and fractals.
There’s no content player A is unable to handle without help from player B.
Get off your high horse, you are not as powerful or as useful as you think you are.
Yea back off man, people with 700 less stats perform the same as people with 700 more stats then they have.
7-15g per hr from Cof speed runs
Estimate is very wrong. Your make believe farming data is so wrong that it makes me believe the only per hour you are dealing with is how many times you can charge your parents cc per hour.
You are being trolled. There’s no logic at all to the difference in achievement points. The person trying to say the rewards along the way compensate for the lack of achievement reward is experiencing an unfortunate logical breakdown.
Yes an insane amount of work gives you just as many achievements as a quick jumping puzzle. The entire WvW category is a bit off and it would take half a decade of non stop playing in wvw to finish for like 50-100 more achievement points total
Commit your life to 5 years of wvw or do a few dailies a couple days in a row you get the same achievement points for both of these two options.
I don’t mind the very high caps on these achievements but if they wanted to fix it all they would have to do is make it a repeatable achievement that gives you 5 achieve points every 1000 kills and cap it at 100,000 kills. (and a similar system for the other wvw categories.)
That being said it’s just achievement points but I think for the sake of polishing the game it’s pretty apparently needed to tighten up the WvW system. I think it would make it more appealing to everyone to have the WvW achievements a little more grounded in reality and participation would raise. If any of the titles were also remotely achievable without an insane commitment that would also encourage people, maybe tiered titles a little less epic then “Ultimate” whatever.

Balance is an over used and hyped up term in MMOs. The entire game doesn’t need to be perfect math equal symmetry across all classes in all situations.
Imbalance is as bad in PvE as in PvP.
Look at the original Guild Wars:
1. Paragons were added to the game, were (rather obviously) overpowered since they were a profession with very strong defense that could provide the entire party with passive defensive effects, and were then nerfed into next to nothing. ArenaNet tried to fix them in PvE… By giving them access to two overpowered skills. Which means, other than the builds using specifically “There’s Nothing to Fear!” and “Save Yourselves!” (which for the records is a warrior skill), all Paragon builds are subpar. Can you still use those other builds to play through the game? Sure, you could just play it with seven characters instead of a full party. But you would still be subpar in your party.
2. Dervishes were introduced in the game as a very powerful profession, later nerfed to the point that they had little usefulness in PvP or in Hard Mode, and as such the profession was completely overhauled later on. Again, this overhaul was not only due to PvP, but also due to how the Dervish lacked an useful role in PvE content.
3. Ritualists were the kings of nerfs. They had multiple skill changes that basically removed any unique role the profession had, and due to never receiving the overhaul they needed, they were given in PvE a single overpowered skill so they would be accepted in parties, Signet of Spirits. The lack of balance made all other builds not only weaker, but also underpowered, PvE wise.
4. Speaking about giving an underpowered profession an overpowered skill so it would be accepted in parties, Shadow Form. Do I have to say anything else?
The “unique snowflakes” who liked the original Guild Wars either only played easy content, ignoring Hard Mode and the hardest dungeons, or were carried by the rest of their team. Due to the lack of balance, many professions had very few viable builds in PvE, despite the game having more than one thousand skills.
A lot of people approach MMO’s as feeling like they identify with only one class and any nerf or buff is offensive to them or others. A rather shallow way of looking at things. Some of them complain no matter how balanced or OP they are, a lot of it is mindset.
It’s really more about the journey then what class people want to perpetually farm on. If you play multiple classes and don’t identify with any as a personal matter you can have a lot more fun. If people want to farm at max efficient or have an advantage in pvp that’s their option. Note I did say attempted to be balanced within reason.
These are all responses to complaints of synthetic issues made the community who feels their characters need to be better or others weaker, or people just seeking the most efficient way to farm. My life will go on without knowing my warrior is doing absolute equal performance in every situation to every other class, could care less and I’m a competitive gamer. The more demands people put on “balance” the more uniqueness, fresh ideas, and fun are sacrificed sometimes for well called for benefits in “balancing” them but more often then not it just makes everything more boring and the same.

Yes, I absolutely have stopped and I had a large ambitious plan going. I was enjoying gathering up multiple stat sets and I’d say it was giving me a lot of versatility. I have a few mains which are pretty much done in 4-5 sets and am moving on to other alts to try out new builds and have various sets.
That’s come to a complete halt with this news. I’ve also stopped building celestial sets for double reasons, this and the fact that MF will be gone. Have no desire to make sets after this news as the sets are a min max game play and with them not being max in the long term it makes no sense to min max them.
Gamble chests FTL. If I wanted to Casino I’d go to one. If I want to get robbed I’d go to Ft Lauderdale.
Also OP it’s not an anet slave experiment though. It’s Asia’s only contribution to the MMO genre, they invented this tactic as f2p is a lot more popular there.

Reviewed my records and last week I was achieving a .9~ salvage rate with multiple procs I believe so it wasn’t a patch months ago. Expect ecto prices to double I guess and rares to be 50% their current value?
have fully decked in Ascended with LEGENDARY weapons….
Legendary weapon’s have the same stats as exotic, doesn’t affect anything. Ascended gear is only a small boost and 3 of the pieces are obtainable without time gate. “Veteran Status” has no effect on this instance. Also any Legendary from pre February by my standards is a 90% chance at being a credit card legendary.
This is easily done in 4-5 attempts by any average player. By average I mean can manage to put on some thoughtful utilities and use them fairly responsively and have the ability to move their character as their mind intends it to for the most part. Ability below that I don’t think can access a lot of the content this game has to offer. I posted how to do it, people just keep complaining. Demanding every single instance involve smashing your keys and having an achievement toaster pop up seems pretty sad.
If we’re supposed to thug it out in the center or not it’s irrelevant as the strat it involves now is more interesting the most of gw2’s content and isn’t terribly hard. Zerking isn’t a social class IRL that you are only born into. It’s something easily achievable with a small amount of time and 4 silver to respec.

Dwayna is fine from an MMO perspective in terms of difficulty. She’s been done with questionable tactics and also completely legit. You don’t need all warrior and a mesmer. She’s a very hard coordination check and a DPS check however the complaint should really be: “Dwayna is to hard for me” or “Dwayna is to serious for what an acceptable majority of GW2 players can handle.”
A lot of posts here claim the Dwayna forces people out of a play style: I don’t think “my playstyle” should be rigid enough to involve me never changing my 10 point traits for an encounter (or respecing even for the hardest dungeon boss) not switching utilities not swapping weapons not bringing good food and potions if you plan on clearing the hardest dungeon wing in the game.
Be flexible it takes a bit of learning and also a good attempt. I don’t think Dungeon Master should be handed out for free and just because some dungeons are easy doesn’t mean they all have to be.
Also as of the last time i checked (about a week or two ago) The petrify is 100% dodge rollable, I saw numerous replies in this thread claiming it wasn’t.
It’s a 100% completely optional wing of a dungeon that is acclaimed as being the hardest. Nothing is being blocked besides a prestige title that should be earn imo. Any nerfs will just lessen the victory when it’s finally achieved as it’s very possible now.
If it’s not dying in 2 hours of attempts doing the 4-1 wisp trick with 3 warriors and a timewarp regardless of gear the problem isn’t the difficulty. 4-1 makes it relatively straight forward and pretty much any class composition could manage it if they knew what they were doing. Swapping any of these slots or combination of : chest pants weapon will vastly relocate a majority of your stat points, albeit it won’t make much difference but it’s pretty much a whole stat overhaul. I don’t think carrying around a different weapon or a chest is so insanely difficult, it would cost just a couple of hours of farming straight from the TP.

My enthusiasm for GW2 has been destroyed by this.
I will start off with the only fix that I will be comfortable with:
ONLY FIX:
Remove Ascended or make an item which is obtainable in wvw and all forms of pve that upgrade any exotic to an Ascended and make it take about one evening of playing per piece upgrade at most.
If Ascended must remain (through the upgrade option above) Make the Infusion Slot do something other then segregate and gate players: Vanity glows, combat effects, slight change to visual appearance (corruption or something to make star wars people happy) slight stat increases since the upgrade process would be much more obtainable, or combat effects similar to rune combinations, perhaps closer to weak runewords, maybe the ability to achieve a couple combinations of sets of 3 since there would be quite a few slots to fill. I’d be ok with just slight raw stats similar to a gem, like wow enchants basicaly, if that’s the best i can get. I wouldn’t overdo it at all, in terms of character power, every little bit is just going to trivialize earlier content and dungeons. Ascended could be a quality of life thing instead: stats are the same and any exotic can be upgrade allowing for example ascended gear be transmuted for free ( the grind could be increased in this case since it’s purely an earned luxury that doesn’t effect balance.)
My rant to make myself feel better about these horrible decisions:
I had no problem with the longevity of the game before this change I loved it and could see myself playing for a long long time. I never once signed in and didn’t have a long list of things that I wanted to do.
There is no way to ease over the gear grind, increasing how easy they are to obtain wouldn’t change anything, increasing the ways to get them will not change anything.
There are many games that do the grind better that allow for much more competitive technical PVE that have a much more enjoyable grinding experience that are a much better environment for technical PVE communities to develop in. A decade ago there were mmo’s that handled these areas better then you do. This never bothered me because the highlights of this game were revolutionary and refreshing, they bother me very much now. I don’t miss having this and I don’t want it back. GW2 was the most refreshing MMO in the last 5 years by far and I loved signing in everyday,
Even raising the tier just once is not OK. I’m very angry you want to start me on my way running 7 average wings that accumulate to slightly over one dungeon worth of encounters endlessly, if you made it any closer to a hamster on a wheel it would be an absolute mockery of your players. The dungeons you had I enjoyed quite a bit and farming certain weapons and gears for my character’s aesthetics while experimenting with specs and different alts was engaging enough for me.
3 months in I will not do your gear grind, I wont ever do your gear grind beyond what was promised. There are many games that do it better and if you throw away everything all that you have going for you is the Beautiful animation work and environments which is amazing but not enough alone.
Worst idea ever, I had so much faith but this is a shocking change and now that I see it’s implementation I assure you that you are 100% out of touch with your game, what it’s strong points are and how you should be devoting your resources.
0/10 had so much love for gw2 takes some horrible decisions to turn it around like this. I’d put this in the realm of how fail D3 was and how hard it must have been to ruin such a great franchise.
(edited by Stego.3148)
Pfft, they added 2 rings and mats for a back piece.
People are just looking to complain.
Oh and I LOVE that legendary weapons will never ever become obsolete – TYTY ANet!
yes contradicting everything they said this game was, making it an entire mix of pay real money or get left behind and requiring one specific small unimaginative dungeons to be run for more hours then a hard core wow raid schedule IS something to complain about.
Slippery slope is beyond your comprehension karizee, just do not worry about it.
I believe the previous .9 was tied purely to master salvage kits where as Black Lion Kits were around 1.25 before this nerf. I’d be curious to see if Black Lion Kits still maintain their 1.25 or if that was nerfed also.
It is most likely an attempt to make Black Lion kits more appealing I don’t see a reason anyone would purchase them currently as the cost to buy that many gems would be vastly higher then the profit you would make on ectos.
Ecto’s would have to vastly increase in value and the chance would have to raise much higher then 1.25 to come close to making it worth the conversion I think.
(edited by Stego.3148)
random numbers game = RNG. The OP didn’t use it right exactly although it works kind of. It’s used for people to complain on forums if they lose based on luck. 90% of the time people miss use RNG however as an excuse for being bad.
To the poster below they have had the odds at 1/200 it’s in the 300$+ run to obtain a weapon skin on average which every rational person would agree is very unhealthy to encourage people to spend.
