Personal Quartz Node (Home Instance)

Just curious how important it will be for people to complete the meta achievement for the Four Winds event in order to get the permanent quartz node in your home instance. I ask because due to my laptop needing hardware repair, I may not be able to play again for several weeks. How much of an advantage are people who get the personal node over those who missed out and could not complete the meta achievement?

I guess this question cannot be fully answered until we know the full extent of how quartz will be used and if mining quartz outside of your home instance will disappear completely with the departure of the new zone at the end of the event.

Will the Labyrinthine Cliffs be permanent?

I have to send in my laptop for repairs under its warranty which could take up to two weeks…Missing out on achievements is fine with me but missing content that rewards exclusive and unique armor/weap/back skins or nodes is reeealy frustrating, especially when a skin finally rolls around that is actually worth getting (for me it was the fervid censer but I missed Secrets of Southsun). One thing I saw that I want to make sure is that people can still earn the quartz node after the event has passed. This gives those who were able to do the meta event a blatant advantage in crafting items that require quartz over those who couldn’t.

In short: The gameplay may use more focus and goals, but don’t tell me +stat trinkets are a goal. Stop this nonsense. Goals that are part of the game. *bold*No trinkets, no stupid achievement checkbox lists.bold

This is exactly what each and every special monthly event has been about. Stupid cosmetic trinkets, stupid cosmetic minis, long achievement checklist grinds all for said cosmetic trinket mini junk.

GW2 is like a carnival. It’s fun to pass the time and look at all the cool sideshows, but there is no overall epic adventure. Just mindless wandering.

Quoting the OP from another topic:

Do you honestly think most MMO players are thinking “oh sweet I cant wait for this awesome challenge in this dungeon”…no they want to get that sweet rare reward at the end.

So no, you are not looking for any “overall epic adventure”. By your words, all you want is “mindless” grind. I’m happy that there isn’t enough of the gear grind you want in this game.

I can see how these two statements at first seem to contradict one another. However, it is all in how you define an epic adventure. My idea of an epic adventure is content that is of large scale, offers large rewards, and overall feels interesting and challenging. Perhaps adventure the is the wrong word as an adventure does not guarantee rewards.

A system by which one goes into a dungeon or an event knowing that he/she will not likely not receive any meaningful loot is not a fun system. Meaningful rewards that give you a sense of character/gear progression is a key component to keeping players interested. Having epic story telling is usually a bonus. And I am not saying I want to more grind, you all seem to think that this will occur if item progression was more emphasized. Dungeon token grinding is the most grinding I have and will ever do for armor/weapons in this game. Anything more is silly and not fun. I am talking about let boss chests actually give you good rewards. Each boss fight you should be excited that your cool item might drop. I will likely never play WoW again but if there is one thing they did right is raid loot tables. It kept you coming back for your drop, and when it dropped, you were so happy. Loot tables don’t exist in this game and buying armor/weapons from TP or with karma that has the same states is too cheap for loot from bosses to matter. Its tricky because this just isnt possible in GW2. Even if every boss in dungeons now dropped exotics, people would still sell them because they likely already have their desired exotic stats on their desired looking armor. Loot just doesn’t matter in this game. Everything is so cosmetically driven in this game that it all seems superficial and fake (mostly mini’s and joke/holiday skins).

The following will pertain to PvE content only:

GW2 is like a carnival. It’s fun to pass the time and look at all the cool sideshows, but there is no overall epic adventure. Just mindless wandering.

Sure there are a epic meta events, but you complete it and carry on to some other unrelated event that does not progress your character forward whatsoever, knowing that these events happen on rotation. I did enjoy my personal story, but I feel as though GW2 is two separate games before and after you hit 80. All character story progression grinds to a halt after your personal story, and all gear progression stops after you buy your favorite looking armor and transmuted it with exotics from the TP. I will say that I had more fun leveling/questing in this game than any other MMO I have ever played. The zones are just gorgeous, the “questing” was seamless. But now what? Hitting 80 I was ready for some epic battles with huge bosses and cool armor and weapons. But that didn’t happen.

This games attention to detail is phenomenal. It’s dedication to meaningful and rewarding end-game content progression is horrendous.

If the items are available elsewhere, there is really no reward for doing the content. If you could buy TA armor, who would really do TA?

You know, that’s a very sad statement about the content in this game. So, basically, dungeons are not worth doing unless it is for some unique reward?

…Yes. People have lives. Who wants to spend hours doing an instance where they get a few gold and rares in their end boss chest? Do you honestly think most MMO players are thinking “oh sweet I cant wait for this awesome challenge in this dungeon”…no they want to get that sweet rare reward at the end. Might as well PvP if your not going to get rewarded for playing content.

Raids!? oh no ….

please no item progression

Honestly this game needs item progression. Once you get your favorite cosmetic looking armor and transmute it with any old exotics with your desired stats, your characters gear progression utterly stops. These monthly sidegames/quests are just a way to distract us from any sort of meaningful progression. The only progression this game has after 80 is through achievements and FotM.

Rewards are seriously lacking

A mini npc humanoid pet looks incredibly cheesy and stupid zipping around at your feet. Are rewards like these really appropriate for players who spend hours upon hours of grinding to get the achievements? The rewards for this whole event just seem easily passable. What is the point of doing the dungeon when they don’t reward you with anyone good? Do people really want the monocle or tonic? 100 Dragon Coffers seem nice, but big whoop now you have more RNG to get the mini and the jade weapon ticket. Both of which are again easily passable if you don’t like the skins.

I’m not saying these rewards are not cool and desirable to chunk of people, but after all, they are all completely cosmetic, and if you are a person that doesn’t like any of these cosmetic rewards, you have no incentive to take other than to “experience” it. This game has just a lost any and all meaningful character progression outside of achievement hunting…oh wait that is all it has ever had (besides FotM, a grindfest).

Can I still get wings?

in Dragon Bash

It is still very easy and doable in 3-4 hours. First off, Pieces of Zhaitaffy are not expensive. I bought 250 for like 20 silver, getting the “eat 250 candy” achievement easy. Then you can buy 12 fireworks which each have 9 charges, so that is 10 candies each for a total of 120 candies for 100 fireworks launched achievement. The other easy one is the effigy dragon burnings in the lower areas (50 total, 30 minute cooldown each). You should only need 3 achievements after all the story ones including “meet the hosts”. This is for the shattered wings, the bat-like wings are like 6 gold on the TP.

Nature-themed back items

I feel like Sylvari suffer most from looking out of place in their armor unless they are wearing cultural or twilight arbor. Outside of these sets it leaves almost nothing else for armor customization if you want to maintain a nature-esque feel to your character. Once I got the the twilight arbor set I stopped trying to get gear altogether. No point in getting better armor for stats unless you want to do FotM which is a grindfest. I just really which Arenanet would implement a much better and rewarding loot system. PvE is seriously lacking in this game for those that like noticeable and rewarding progression.

Back Items with no visual models

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sterz.2463

Sterz.2463

Just curious why there are so many back items in this game that have no visual models when worn. This greatly limits the variety visible/aesthetic back items in the game to those that you grind forever for in FotM or get from time limited special events like Secrets of Southsun or Dragon Bash. So your average player has only a handful of available (bland) models to choose from. It would be really nice to see models for the following back items;

Spineguard of the North, Arbor’s Embrace, Forest Brace, Risen Spineguard, Ghostly Spineguard, Wraithlord Chains, Prototype Sheath, Burntclaw’s Brace, etc.

I mean something like a spineguard should guard your spine, and you know, be visible…

As of now we only have about 11 back item models, 7 of which are special event only items (if you miss them, you can never get them again). The majority of the remaining either require intense farming and grind such as the Fractal Capacitors or are “joke” items like the Plush Quaggan and Charr backpacks. Here is a quick list of the available models;

-Fractal Capacitor (intense grind)
-Quiver (they all look the same)
-Book (halloween*)
-Other book models (all look very similar)
-Plush toy backpacks (quaggen and charr)
-Christmas toy sack*
-Guild backpacks
-Karka tentacle back*
-Fervid Censer (glowing flower)*
-Holographic wings*
-Shattered holographic wings*
-Adventure box*
*=special event only model

It seems Arenanet saves the cool looking back pieces for the special month long events. I’d like to see more variety for those who either don’t like the meta event models, or don’t have time to complete the achievements to get them.

I think the dye and transformation systems are great tools for customization, but there simply is not enough models of each kind of armor archtypes to feel unique.

Nature-themed back items

in Sylvari

Sterz.2463

There is a serious lack of nature-themed back items in this game. The only one I have seen is the Fervid Censer (flower from Secrets of Southsun) but I missed that event. It seems like there is no available variety in visible back items without grinding in fractals or doing long achievements in month limited events. This is quite frustrating as I doubt another nature themed back item will be released for a long time. I wish they had more back models to choose from that were easily purchasable from dungeon vendors or the TP.

As a Sylvari, are there any nature-themed back items out there that you use?

philosophy on raids?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sterz.2463

Sterz.2463

I know this is a topic that has been brought up many times in the past but have we ever gotten an idea of what Anet’s philosophy on raids and their place in GW2 could or couldn’t be? I bring this up because I think that this issue tries to address the greatest woe that this game is facing and that is the lack of engaging, epic, and interesting late game PvE content. While FotM allowed in interesting treadmill type progression, it offers little to no variety after one has completed each fractal, only increasing in difficulty. Furthermore the introduction of Agony Resistance as the new sought after stat is exclusive to this one dungeon, not making it very appealing for those who have already gotten sick of FotM. The rewards are simply to few and far between to feel as though FotM satisfies an engaging and dynamic late game experience.

Guild Wars 2 has done a lot of really innovative and interesting things that made me migrate to it, but I see several other MMORPG periodically introduce raiding content with massive bosses and large raid groups and I can’t help but feel a lack of epic conquest that WoW gave me. The drive to continually get better gear is also very watered down in the game, as once I look good in an exotic set, I get the sense that I’m kind of done…

FotM can be continually improved upon with added fractals and rewards in the future and that is fine and a great game plan. I just think its time for Anet to consider how they might implement larger scale raid scenarios that make PvE feel epic and rewarding again. As it stands end game PvE is just too repetitive in GW2 and doesn’t offer enough drive for character/gear progression outside of FotM.

Massively: Where Guild Wars 2 Goes Wrong

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sterz.2463

There is also much to be said about the lackluster-ness of dungeon how and they fail to really tell a worthwhile story or give a memorable experience. In my case, I skipped the majority of the story mode’s simply because leveling my personal story and doing hearts/dynamic events were more than enough to lvl me quickly. Going back, there was no reason to replay those story mode’s, effectively loosing out on a large chunk of the story plot that we are all supposed to be following (Destiney’s Edge). Then once you hit 80 the goal is to grind ONE dungeon until you get a set of desired exotic armor/weapons. This makes you less motivated to venture out and do other dungeons due to the fact that the only reason to do dungeons at 80 is for the respected tokens. Then once you get your cool gear set…then what? You get into fractals and have to repeat the same frustrating process of finding a group, dealing with DC’s, etc. all so that you can get ascended gear? But on top of that, the drive to get the best in slot gear is non-existant really. There are few instances where the difference between your dungeon exotics and ascended gear will make a big enough difference in PvE. So then you feel like your doing all this work for little reward. It just feels like there is little motivation to be constantly getting better gear because there doesn’t exist the exclusion of raid spots where gear scores are relevant. This game has alot of elements that are superior to WoW, but something that WoW did well was have raids that felt epic (to a degree). Every raid run was a challenge and every boss could drop an amazing item for you. You were excited to participate and EARN your spot in that raid. That excitement does not exist in GW2 PvE.

Dungeon Boss Chests and Tokens

in Suggestions

Posted by: Sterz.2463

Sterz.2463

After hitting 80 and gearing yourself with exotics, it seems as though you are only motivated to grind the one dungeon that has your exotic set that you like. There is almost no reason incentive to do other explorable modes outside of the experience and if down the road you want to buy one of their dungeon armor pieces or weapons. Otherwise, it seems dungeons have negligible boss chest rewards (I hear this changed a little with the Fractals but only on higher difficulties). I honestly would not mind a loot table with a party loot system where each boss actually dropped an exotic, this would at least make gearing a little more satisfying a rewarding instead of just drudging through the dungeon to get to the end boss to get your tokens and leave.

My issue is, the most efficient way to get geared involves boring yourself out of your mind grinding the same dungeon, effectively making it seem like a complete drag to get your desired gear set. This is also the cheapest way to get gear (but very time consuming).

My first suggestion is to potentially implement loot tables in dungeons so that boss chests can drop exotics and not crappy blues. My second suggestion is to make dungeon tokens generic so all dungeons drop tokens that can be exchanged for ANY dungeon armor/weapons. However, one would need to figure out how the diminishing daily token returns from dungeons would work so you can’t just get 60 tokens by doing each dungeon in a day.

I'll be honest about the gear and gearchecks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sterz.2463

Sterz.2463

Quit frankly we should be able to inspect other players at the least. What would result would be gear checks before harder difficulty dungeons like Fractals. But honestly, this isnt necessarily bad thing. The cheapest way to get exotics is dungeon grinding, which if you want the same set look, means you will grind the SAME dungeon several times. Quite frankly, I almost fall asleep every time I run TA exp nowadays. The chest drops are AWFUL and there are no surprises when it comes to loot drops.

Coming from games like World of Warcraft, I can honestly say they actually made gearing in dungeons and then in raids feel progressive and more satisfying. You could collect dungeon/raid tokens while also getting a chance for epics to drop from each boss. Honestly I would not be opposed to seeing GW2 dungeons getting a loot table with a party loot system implemented. In addition I think dungeons should give generic tokens that you can buy any dungeon piece with. This way you are not forced to grind the same dungeon OVER and OVER. Only boss that matters is the end boss in dungeons just to get the tokens. Sorry but this is not engaging and not fun when it comes to gearing your character.

After completing the final personal story “Victory or Death”, I selected what siege equipment I wanted, and it showed I would also receive a Letter of Recommendation and Loot Bags. However, after accepting, I only received the Letter of Recommendation…At first when I accepted, I didn’t have enough inventory space, so I deposited my collectibles and then proceeded to “select all” from the pop-up window notifying me that these items couldn’t fit in my bags. With plenty of bag space now available for these 2 items, they did not transfer to my bags after selecting “Select All”. Has this ever happened to anyone else when accepting personal story rewards? And do we ever get these rewards refunded by Anet?

The majority of people are mesmers and thieves because people believe they are over powered, but they are not. Mesmers and Thieves are very good vs noobs, or new players that don’t yet have a strategy on how to fight them.

There is no problem.

Get better at the game

This argument never makes sense. If Mesmers and Thieves have that much more tricks up their sleeves, trickier to kill, do more damage, have more CC, etc, etc, than other classes, than something is wrong. I understand every class will have a different fighting strategy and thus the enemy will have to react accordingly, but so far its been noobs not understanding their fighting mechanic AND the fact that they have to high of damage for how tricky they are to kill (theives) or offer too much CC (mesmers).
