My lack of understanding of the class?
Please, explain to me what an engi’s strengths against thieves are. Like i said before, a good thief can out play any of the above ‘counters’ using high amount of evade with s/d or high amount of interrupt with d/p build.

Keeping in mind that until recently Juggernaut didn’t provide any stability leaving us susceptible to cc and the fact that we have access to 2 reveals doesn’t mean much when they are rarely used.

SD is the only build that makes use of analyze and until recently we didn’t have lock on trait not that many builds use it over streamlined kits anyway.

A thief would have to be blind to walk into bomb kit fields or at least not see the animations and disengage until the duration is over. Mines can be cleared with a single dodge roll and a thief can simple shadow step out of range for the duration of a reveal if in fact you do trait or set utility for it.

Again, a good thief can out play any of the above ‘counters’ even if its against a good engi since you’ll be left relying on anticipating their attacks which against a good thief using either blinding powder and or shadow refuge is not easy to predict since they’ll keep extending their stealth times to attack at random intervals.

If that’s not an explanation enough for you then you’re the one that has no understanding.

Doubting you guys have ever played against a good d/p or s/d thief with those answers, i’m not going to explain how one can easily out play any of the above ‘counters’.

Either way it was more of a joke thread to highlight the ridiculous amount of reveal, stability and stealth we will have with the specialization.

They shouldn’t be vulnerable to damage at all, change them so that they act passively like signets or make them have limited cast times while being susceptible to cc. I cant believe it was said from day #1 that no one wanted to see more useless AI but they still shove it in our faces.

As long as they can be damaged they wont be able to balance these properly across 3 game modes and when it comes to functionality elixirs currently do a lot of the same things better since they can’t be destroyed.

Yeah, seems like the stun break + quickness animation resets character position.
I’ve never had an issue with it before, didn’t even know it happened until you mentioned it, just strafe left or right and it’ll un-stick you.
I don’t know why you’re using utilities mid dodge roll anyway…

Being a legendary item it must come with some special effect, any ideas on what i might be? Since legendary weapons already give auras and foot falls i don’t think that it should have either of these.

I think it would be awesome if its effect was to amplify the auras and effects of other legendary weapons.

Elixers and gadgets alone wont give you enough survivability, uitility or damage but if you’re really interested i would say something along the lines of

Right now p/p is really the only viable form of hybrid for both wvw and pvp since traits ruined synergy with rifle.

The 10s icd ruins this skill. I got the impression from the live stream they did that EVERY dodge roll would be a blast finisher so seeing it have the icd added was a disappointment making the skill obsolete.

I tried using it in fractals and it is quite nice when you do get lucky and proc the dodge blast on a fire field so i could see this trait being quite fun and useful if it had no icd at all.

Speak for yourself. Roaming in WvW, I thrive more now, then I did before the changes, with a very similar build.

The new trait lines, variants are in no way better than the previous so to say you’re doing better is total crap.
That’s not even taking into consideration all the bugged traits after update.

Celestial has been destroyed, our new trait lines focusing on lack of diversity force us into either full condition or full power builds. If you try roaming with celestial you’ll get rolfstompedX1000 as engineer currently is with many bugged traits.

I know you said you’ve already crafted celestial but this my set up, I didn’t want healing power as it scales poorly so i focused it into other stats. Ferocity is a bit low but overall its a good balance.

Please add this back into pvp. I see no reason why underwater combat shouldn’t be in ‘Practice’ mode for the purposes of fun and well, practice.

I don’t understand why you would throw away 1/3 of the games combat content while keeping a ridiculous map like sky hammer. I know this has been posted probably 100 times but i feel it needs to be re posted until they reconsider.

I don’t know the correct terms to use but as another example take Borderlands 2. Despite the cartoon art style it has much more detail/texture/rendering. I know i’m comparing a fps to an mmo but in reference to the open world.

In the BL2 ss, looking at the detail of the rock, the texture of the ground and environment.

Why is it that all other MMO’s seem to have totally kitten crappy graphics in the way of detail/rendering. Look at for example wow, ff12, Archeage, WildStar. There graphics are hardly even better than runescape’s and in comparison to gw2 there is no where near as much texture or detail.

So my question is, why are all other MMO’s so far behind in the graphics department?

I mixed gear to create similar stats to celestial without anything being wasted on poorly scaling healing power. Traits and utilities are set to what i use in pvp, different from pve or wvw.

Thanks for posting this. This feels like the most solid build since the trait changes. I’d bet on something similar to this being the new meta.
For pvp i run this this elixer S utility for added hgh might and functionality along with self regulating defence since that only leaves one kit in build.

I use fire over intelligence sigil. Bunker down has a 2s internal cd so the crits are wasted on it. Also i consider backpack regenerator to be pretty useless,1.45k hp every ten seconds assuming you’re in kits the entire time, that’s a equivalent of a a single enemy auto attack.

The only way to currently play engi in pvp is either by abusing burning or grenade barrage both of which are boring. With the loss of viable swiftness and vigor in builds our survivability has gone to kitten.

The trait changes have all but ruined hybrid builds and build diversity since we’re forced into selecting at least 2-4 traits that don’t synergize at all with whatever play style we’re aiming for.

Full zerker builds don’t have the health pool or condition cleanse to survive against current burn stacking so the only viable option left for zerk is to abuse grenade barrage to out dps survivability.

Condition builds are about the only thing that haven’t been completely crippled for our class but we’re still left with the same generic gameplay, abusing burning stacking just to keep up with other classes who do the same. (i reach 6k burning ticks in a single rotation)

This is for engineers in pvp, i cant comment for wvw or pve since i don’t play enough of it. I might also note that i play mesmer, theif, necro and guardian and none of these 4 classes have even come close to being crippled utility trait like engineer has.

This is how pvp feels to me now. Build diversity has been destroyed with classes being forced into generic play styles through the lack of utility customization. Condition changes have created unbalance and where totally unnecessary for pvp.

I doubt i’ll be coming back, this game is nowhere near as enjoyable for me now.

How exactly have these specializations added build diversity?

Instead of having the choice between 5 trait lines you’ve committed us to 3. Instead of being able to cross select traits, for example an adept trait in a master line we’re forced to choose one set path.

There is no where near as much synergy between condition and power traits or utilities anymore. I feel like you’ve crippled hybrid builds and are pushing either full power or full condition without a strong middle ground.

I absolutely love carapace medium female armour and its ‘Butterfly’ theme. Its so intricate and detailed compared to many other armour sets. From the flowers on the waist and shoulder to the sash wrapped around the entire chest to the amazing butterfly wing pattern covering the skirt as well as the neck piece crest. Do i even need to mention the butterfly on the shoulder….. saaaa buuutttttiiiiifffuuullll
It’s actually detailed compared to a majority of the armors available especially on male characters.

Please add more intricate, detailed, themed armour sets like this.

Why not try them out and see for yourself. I love both build equally they just excel at different things.
If i had to summarize i’d say cele rifle is a more rounded build that manages to do everything well, you can fight any class using it and it offers relatively good team support in that regard (jack of all trades), it also offers a lot of survivability through elixerS stealth and toolkit block + rifle leap that can be used offensively or defensively to create distance.

Rabids p/p Is often a stronger build in team fights due to bomb kits aoe condition fields, just remember to never fight a necromancer with it. Other than that theyre fairly similar. Also it is a much easier build to fight outnumbered fights with since you can just aoe condition every enemy on point compared to cele rifle that really only focuses on one target at a time.

Pistol offhand is much stronger for pvp <3 rapid p/p. I hit 4 often enough its just learning the right times to use it and 5 i use either to stop them ready for ‘4’ or to set up bomb kit imob.

Glue shot cooldown is a bit too long also imo. 24s for a 1 1/4s imob and best case scenario 5s cripple

Does anyone else find the shield cool downs to be way too long?
Static shield 40s cd for a 1 1/2sec block and 1s stun.
Magnetic shield 30s for 3s reflect or KB blastF.

I don’t have as much of a problem with magnetic shield as it can be quite powerful but Static shield… come on
That’s a utility length cool down for a pretty basic skill and feels incredibly under powered in pvp as well as wvw.

Am i alone in this?

You are all ignoring the principle of engineer, they don’t use magic!. They are “engineers” they use tools and potions (elixirs). Engineers in gw2 are the equivalent of iron man in the avengers.

Shouts are magic so no.
Signet are magic so no
Traps – psychical, mechanical possibly

My guess would be from what we’ve seen would be a non magical variant of Necromancers minions or a Guardians Spirit weapons. ‘Drone’ utilities that you can deploy.

The small flying drones we see in the preview seem similar to revenants ‘Vengeful Hammers’ skill. “Invoke hammers to circle around you, damaging foes.”
Deploy drones around you to damage foes or granting protection.
something along those lines.

id love some new animations

but devs seem to be insanely stingy when it comes to animations for charachters (not just in this game)

yeah, that’s pretty much what i meant. The animations associated with the skill, they’re an exact copy off of rangers. It’s almost a testament to how much effort they put into guardian spec.

Will crafting become account bound in HOT? I’m not sure if this has been answered yet or not.

I noticed that in the HOT precursor collections post it mentioned that crafting will be involved in the second stage of precursor collection not through the mystic forge.

I imagine this could get really tedious if i have to keep switching between characters running long distances between npc’s to access whichever craft i need at the time. Some of my characters have max craft’s while having hardly any wp’s available since i did it all at wvw stations while others have map completion with no crafts at all.

I would love to see crafting becoming account bound with HOT. The limit of 2 per character just seems stupid to me at this point and adds a lot of cluster between character, material and learned craft swapping.

Thought i’d mention one more thing. ‘Slow’ another new effect is being added as the counter or opposite of quickness. Why is resistance not -33% condition damage, the opposite of Protection. I still cannot understand how they think adding a boon that negates one half of the games damage sources is ok.

This is ridiculous for a BOON!! This is on par with 30/40’s cd utility skills and will take just that to counter it. This will only further push the power meta. Making a boon! able to completely mitigate a builds damage.

I could understand if they introduced a boon that reduced condition duration or the % of damage it applied but to completely remove its affect is ridiculous. They just nerfed might for being overpowered, what the hell do they think this is going to be. Even if the duration is short, most conditions dont have long durations anyway.

Even if somehow they manage to balance this boon, i cant help but think that it will ruin build variety in the game. What about all other classes than necro that don’t have viable boon strip but still want to run condition or hybrid?
Boon’s shouldn’t have such effect’s on the game, they’re boons not skills.

And for people complaining about the current state of conditions, they’re not op, you just need to know how to play around them and learn when you can or cant win a battle. In the same way that you wouldn’t try to kill a ranger from range you don’t try to kill a condi necro on a class with limited cleanse.

I agree, adding an item filter for rarity and type would be easy to implement.

I’m sick of constant masterwork, basic, junk and trophy loot. Salvaging inst a solution since your spammed with upgrades (sigil’s) and neither is a lower tier salvage kit since they only stack as 15-25. Even with 20 slot bags i fill these completely in a short amount of time which while farming craft able materials for a legendary becomes ridiculous.
