Based on the reasons Thief, and at one point Rangers were nerfed, I would say definitely.
I tend to agree with the OP -
In WvWvW there are so many warrior’s it’s crazy. I think they are way more popular than thieves were in their hayday, and much more OP.
It used to be in big fight areas only, like fighting for SM in Eternal. But since the last patch it’s everywhere, all the time. Even small fights of 2 v 2 the lag is omnipresent.
I can’t speak for any of the other tiers, but I know at T1 (or whatever you want to call it now) Blackgate, Sanctum, and Jade Quarry, the WvW lag has become ungodly awful in regards to skill lag.
Fight’s are a complete joke as nothing is reliable as to when it will even go off. There entire fights where no one is able to heal.
I don’t know if Anet is looking into it or what, but the lag is essentially ruining WvW.
Any other tiers having this problem? I know it’s not me, because it’s become the primary conversation topic in the wvw channels.
Mesmer jump exploit going on in WvWvW being exploited pretty badly right now. 50k in one hit. Might be a good idea to fix it…
Hello,
Quick question here: I’ve recently returned to GW2 after a bit of a hiatus, and have started leveling a new character.
Something I’ve noticed is the large event farming zerg in Queensdale.
My question: Do players actually farm these events from 1-80? And is that the most effecient way to level?
I don’t need a lecture on taking the ‘quickest route’ as I have found myself doing a combination and plan to continue to do so. It’s just when I played, the event farming wasn’t really done in Queensdale like it is now, so I’m just wondering if players do it to level quick, and if you can level quick from 1-80 by farming these event chains just in Queensdale alone?
Thanks!
Incorporated the advice, changed the title.
Hello,
I know my title is fairly negative, so let me talk a little about my experience with the Ranger class.
First: I want to love Ranger (most of us do). I currently have 5 level 80’s: Mesmer, Guardian, Necro, Engineer and Ranger.
I will say hands down, in every aspect the ranger lags behind the other classes, and to be honest, it always has. The recent nerf only further pushed the ranger into the pure crap class area.
When I first leveled a ranger to 80 I envisioned, based on Anets description of the class a bow welding distance class, unfortunately though we are anything but that. Anyone who has tried to run a lb/sb or lb anything build has for the most part seen how terrible it is.
So instead many of us fell on the short bow, it did decent damage and when combined with a trap build made a fun class, but NOT OP. To see short-bow range get the nerf for ranger is just unreal to me, the fact that Anet saw this as something to spend time on I just can’t wrap my head around.
The problem with the ranger is that they have no clear distinction of what exactly they are supposed to be, Anet has made it worse by not talking with the ranger community, not incorporating any ranger feedback into their tweaks, and, based on their nerfs, not fully understanding the class at all.
I wonder if anyone at Anet has ever tried running a ranger in WvW or dungeons?
Rangers can do spike damage, but are far from the best at it.
Rangers can apply conditions, but are far from the best at it.
Rangers cannot tank.
Rangers can provide some group support, if they totally kitten themselves.
Rangers are really not ‘masters’ of the bow.
It’s a shame, because this is the class I really want to spend my time playing, but, as someone who does a lot of WvW and a lot of dungeons, this class simply doesn’t cut it for either. Why would I bother with my ranger when all of the other four lvl 80’s I have are better then any build i can put together on my ranger? Why would I try to find a group for fractals, or dungeons with my ranger when most groups don’t even want rangers, but will kick someone for my guardian?
Why would I run my ranger in WvW? Rangers are a magnet for thieves, hands down, because thieves know how easy a ranger is.
It’s just shocking to me that Anet went after the ranger class, and really didn’t provide any real buffs to the class.
Sorry for this rant, I’m not saying there aren’t any good rangers out there, it’s just they have to work 100X harder than any other class to be good. I post this hoping (probably ignorantly) that some dev at Anet will take a look and go play a ranger themself.
I dare Anet to roll a ranger and go run dungeons with PUGS, go play in WvW in small groups and solo and post a video of them doing so. I would love to see that.
I’m actually a little bit surprised that they made us rely on an NPC to move past certain parts…also what genius forgot to put an ‘exit’ from this dungeon?
Also seems to have bugged out for my groups run…Sigh..kinda frustrating.
Here is what I use:
Mystic Rifle, I put 30 in firearms.
I then wear a full set of Sorrows Embrace : power, tough, vit armor
full set of runes of the eagle, throw 2o points in alchemy and 10 in inventions so you get the swiftness boost.
always use the tool kit so you get the block and magnet.
It’s a great, easy to use ‘tanky’ build with some decent damage. I constantly play with my firearm traits, but I like knee shot, just a personal preference, because after the immobilize they are still slow.

Ok, so let’s see about this.
With no battle markers and no commander icons, where does someone like me, who is not a part of any guild, go in WvW? The answer is nowhere. I would just have to roam around aimlessly, hoping that I meet a big group before I get mercilessly killed.
So yes, while it will eliminate the zergs that consist of random people like myself, it won’t eliminate them completely. After all, pretty much every server with a decent WvW population has guilds running around in groups of 20+ people. They don’t need the commander sign to tell them where their people are, they have guild chat for that.
As for the markers eliminating zerging to an attack, I don’t think so. Just take a look at all the “underhanded” tactics we already see in WvW. After reset you have large groups sitting at supply camps to make sure they don’t get taken/destroyed by the opposition. You also have Mesmers hiding in keeps, ready to port their comrades inside to bypass all the effort. So what’s to say that you wouldn’t have Mesmers sitting around in towers with constant groups of 5-10 people roaming around?
Yes, in WvWvW you have a couple options:
You would look for a group (you would actually have to play and rely on others)
You would go solo
You would go with a guild.’
It’s not like I’m saying “remove the chat channel” – you would roam aimlessly if you were too stupid to figure out LFG via chat. “80 Necro looking for grp” or “Where is our zerg currently”…
Again, it worked great, better in DAOC then it does here. There was no giant orange swords and blue diamonds running around the map. You had to actually figure out what to do, I mean there was a learning curve, it wasn’t a skilless, button mashing fest that it currently is. If you were too dumb to ask for help or use chat I guess yes, you would roam around aimlessly, but how is that ANETs problem? It is an MMO…
In DAOC there was always realm zergs, it was just a lot easier to avoid joining them or getting owned by them because you could do stuff without giant swords or white sword appearing. Your reputation actually mattered, and good groups would form based on someones reputation. It was difficult and it was fun.
I think you use a bit of hyperbole in your post. Yes, the tactics you mentioned get used, but I bet mesmers get away with it about 5% of the time, it’s pretty easy to check and clear keeps, if you even put in half the effort to do so.
(edited by Sullydog.9206)
I should add I support this because it will add a learning curve to WvW. In DAOC there was a learning curve, figuring out where to go, who to follow, if you should run in small or large groups and it was a blast.
There is 0 learning curve in WvW. All you do is follow the blue diamond and spam random skills.
This is my second time making this recommendation, the first time I was overwhelmingly shot down (this was awhile ago). But after recent ‘attempts’ by ANET to deter WvWvW zerging, which is kinda lame I thought I would revive my rec.
It’s simple: remove battle markers from WvW maps. That’s right, don’t allow players to see where battles are taking place, or what keeps/castles are being sieges. This would dramatically reduce zerg mentality because it would force people to actually utilize scouting and defense. Small groups or guild groups would actually stand a chance at taking towers before being completely zerged. It works great in DAOC and it will work great here. Remove the battle markers.
Next remove the ‘commander’ tags. Refund 100g to everyone who has purchased one. These are just silly and should never have been implemented in the first place. No single other game mechanic influences zerg mentality more then a giant blue diamond that everyone rallies around.
I love WvWvW, but think it could be made better by really going after disrupting the super-uber zerging that takes place.
i know you say you dont like to follow other peoples builds but try this:
Drop 10 points in inventions and put them into explosives. 33% chance to burn (using zerker gear is epic) + being invisible is not very useful and you will still get owned hard by melee classes with 1/2 a brain.
Change 1st trait in firearms to vulnerability stacking. 1/2 your hits will stack it and that synagize’s well with other traits and the weapon sigil.
Weapon sigil accuracy for stacking crit chance.
Make sure if your doing WvW/Spvp have an extra rifle in your bags you can switch too once you have full stacks. (Sigil of earth on the spare rifle)
I see this so often. DONT USE SPEEDY KITS lol.
Use Packaged stimulants. Using this means that you med kit 5 ability will give you 24/7 swiftness AND fury! For once we have a bug that can be used to our advantage!
With that extra10 points put them into tools for the extra endurance regen and of course the 10% extra damage when endurance is full + An extra 10% crit damage from trait line passive
And eagle runes since they just totallykick kittenRecap. Once you have full stacks on switch to your spare rifle and you will have:
91% Crit chance
33% chance to burn on crit.
30% chance to bleed on crit (trait)
60% chance to bleed on crit (spare rifle)
1/2 your crits stacks vulnerability. And that my friends is how you BBQ
P.S The reason Scope trait is replaced is because it don’t work.
P.P.S I only do Spvp/Tpvp. So WvW i know the stats can be played around with a bit more and food buff’s etc.
Great advice! will give your recommendations a shot!
Ugh, I personally can’t stand grenades…they are so boring, just sitting there spamming away with them.
Hello,
This is the first time I’ve posted a build on the forums. I played a necro for the longest time and only recently switched over and got my Engineer to 80. Since reaching 80 I’ve had nothing but fun with my engineer, I love em! I could care less what others say, and I encourage people considering the class to go with it, not the best 1v1 stats class in the game, but can sure be loads of fun.
Anyway, on with my build. I’m sure others have played around with similar builds. One thing I’ve noticed with the engineer on the forums is the large abundance of empirical based boring builds. Two things I can’t stand in my MMOs is empirically backed builds =P and even worse, those builds being boring…enter the various grenade builds, I fall asleep playing these, as well as builds that utilize our elixirs.
So I’ve been playing around with a distance (rifle or pistol) based build that revolves around gadgets, more precisely gadgets that allow you to fly all over the place (or your enemy). This build is primarily for WvWvW – your not going to be the top damage dealer, but, kitten your going to be hard to catch and kill. I seem to shine most against thieves, who absolutely stand no chance at all, even when they get the jump on you.
So with further ado I present my first ever build (be kind to me): Catch me if you can -
The idea is simple, you max out rifle (or pistol) damage, depending what you prefer, I prefer the rifle because of netshot, which is very, very handy in both groups and solo, as well as your blowback, which is also pretty funny to use.
Next I max out gadget usefulness equipping Rocket boots (downright awesome), Slick shoes (which in my opinion are one of our greatest skills, seriously, this thing is sweet for WvWvW and it’s also funny, its the death of thieves, especially melee based thieves, lastly I switch out personal battering ram and Elixir S. Personal battering ram is the ultimate joke if you can get if off…nothing like making a person go flying through the air after having already used oil slick on them.
The play is easy and fun – you keep people away from you by knocking them down (slick shoes), shooting away from them (rocket boots) and knocking them back (ram battering). You then use your net shot and rifle to kill them. You can’t forget your tool belt skills either, especially Super speed, which is super useful for getting into a keep or catching a runner who has a head start.
The other trick is I have Speedy Kits trait equipped, I then use med kit as my heal ability, which I’ve hot-keyed to my middle mouse button, I casually click this which gives me unlimited swiftness, as long as you click it every 5 seconds or so (which is easy if you hotkey it to middle mouse) you can fly around the map.
Anyway, I’m very aware this isn’t probably everyone’s cup of tea, I was looking for something fun, I personally think its a great WvW build, it has GREAT survivability, thieves ALWAYS, ALWAYS underestimate us engineers and this plays perfectly on that. Give it a try and I think you will find it as enjoyable as I have.
Lastly, for style points, you must be either an Asura or Charr engineer, you then must use the popgun skin on your rifle and wear the toymaker backpack from Christmas event.
Good luck, and remember, it’s not about stats and being the best 1v1 class, it’s about having fun and making people frustrated!

Do you think for WvW then, it’s much more viable to simply go for Precision/Condition Damage/Toughness?
There are essentially 2 mainstream popular builds that go around for WvW – The conditionmancer and then a power-build that relies on DS.
Having played both many times (I switch between them when I get bored) It seems it’s just a matter of playstyle and preference. Conditionmancer is nice because you don’t need to change it up a lot to go run dungeons, it can be fun to epidemic groups and watch your AoE’s tick away, it is also a good way to get a lot of kills when zerg roaming, and it’s relatively easy to play when compared to some of the power builds.
As for the power-builds they are more 1 v 1 oriented, they are harder and more intuitive to play. I may be in the minority but for both builds I just stack a full set of Khilbrons (precision/tough/condition) I’ve never had any problem running dungeons, WvWvWing (Both group and solo) with a set of Khilbrons. The only thing I ever change up is my runes and sigils depending on the build I’m trying out.
I know there is already one post on this topic, but, seeing as my main is a necro, I’ve played a necro in all its many forms since beta and watched how we lag behind nearly every other class in just about everything EXCEPT AoE this really got my attention.
The condition build on the necro, the core of which is the epidemic skill is truly one of the very few bright spots in an otherwise lackluster class. Our minions are for the most part complete crap, we have very few DD skills and none really worth mentioning besides DS.
Unless you run a pure power build the only other option for us is the condition build which in my opinion is the bread and butter of the necro class – spreading via AoE debuffs, poison and disease.
Not to mention every single staff skill we get is an AoE except the auto-attack, in fact a majority of all our weapon slot skills are AoEs. If they were to nerf AoE across the board I can’t imagine how irrelevant the necro class would be in both PvE and PvP,
I can’t imagine that Anet would know so little about the necro class that they would further weaken us by nerfing our AoE. Someone tell me my fears are unfounded?
(edited by Sullydog.9206)
I can also confirm this, having all sorts of problems with jumping.
Yes, because attacking a random mob should put a giant cross on the map for all to see…
He means if the “battle indicator” swords were removed, anyone who’s not in teamspeak/guild chat with the large WvW guilds would be screwed and not know where to go.
A few things:
1: I’m skeptical of this, things worked fine in DAOC and WAR, people just communicated via chat and would utilize the commanders…
2. As it is right now all large WvW guilds just utilize a giant zerg, go where crosses are and roll everyone.
3. ‘mr random’ has never really been that helpful anyway to the overall effort, it’s the commanders job to organize, ‘mr. random’ can choose to follow or not. In-fact removing the crosses would empower commanders more.
nah what this WOULD do would make the servers with the big WvWvW guilds win even more, and have mr random that are not part of a WvWvW guild, be pretty much useless, as he would have a hard time to find out where he should even go
What?
This is a petition to have Anet remove battle indicators from WvW (the little crossed swords that show where a battle or attack is taking place).
In my opinion ALL this does is empower the zergs. Without these indicators servers would need to use scouts and guards to actually watch over their keeps and to find the enemies movement rather then rely on the little sword icons popping up.
It worked great in Dark Age of Camelot it will work great here and I believe empower small more organized units to be effective.
I think this one step would go a long way in improving the quality and fun of WvW..
I love WvW in GW2, but the zerging power is crazy. I would love to see battle indicators removed.
Bumping because of ANETS lack of communication about this.
Hello,
Some response on Darkhaven -Iron marches cluster would be great. Its been down now for more then 5 hours, there has been no response or attempt at fixing it apparently, can’t log into any character in the zone…
Same issue. You would figure if a zone is down, it would be an instant top priority…. I guess they are all off for the weekend….
Ya, would be real great to get some kind of reply since its been down now for 4 hours…or for someone to even acknowledge the issue.
Bumping because I can’t log into my characters and there has been no reply from Anet, been down for at least 2 or 3 hours now.
My 80 is also stuck in this zone, it won’t load, a tech person needs to reply or give an update please.
