Second, I’ve been an EVE Online player for several years; the biggest fiasco CCP ever faced occurred when they promised features they were unable to properly deliver; two hundred people lost their jobs because of the negative backlash from upset fans.
Spreading mis-information won’t help. Players rioted CCP over the cash shop and the leaked internal documents showing a pay to win model was in the works (golden ammo). The forums were ablaze with hundreds of people threatening to cancel subscriptions for all of their accounts.
Hilmar CCP’s CEO then got arrogant and announced at a trade show that the fans were just up in arms and that he would “watch what they do, not what they say” regarding EVE hemorrhaging subscriptions.
This all lead to a full scale exodus of subscriptions, within days Hilmar was back peddling with offers of apology and the CSM (EVE’s democratically elected players who represent player interestes at CCP’s tables) were flow from around the world to Iceland to attend an emergency summit.
The culmination was that the players wanted less pay to win, CCP had less captial to work on its nex MMO due to the loss of EVE subscribers. Also during the CSM summit it was brought to light players wanted a return to EVE’s core values so the team working on the Walking In Stations + the team worknig on CCP’s next mmo were mostly axed.
“By end of day Jan 28th PST”
So, by the following times we will have the patch.
Mon 28 23:59 PST
Tue 29 02:59 EST
Tue 29 07:59 UTC
Tue 29 08:59 CET
Tue 29 17:75 AEST
This is the entire issue i have with Anet’s release schedules.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/the-game/releases/january-2013/
That link shows that the update is coming on the 28th. It does not say 28th PST. Nor does it say that the update is coming on the 29th for any other timezone.
Anet seem to repeatedly forget they are catering to a global audience. As a UK player I don’t give one iota what time it is at Anets office. Nor do I suspect many players from around the world care that in the good ol’ US of A on the west cost that it’s still the 28th for X more many hours.
If you have a global website which is advertising a launch date of a product you either stagger the launch for each local timezone (not possible in this case), provide multiple times for launch based on the zones you operate in or you localize the website page for each area you operate in. It’s not rocket science. You don’t advertise 28th to the world then deliver the product on the 29th for a large chunk of your user base with the only explanation being a flippant “when its ready” from a dev, that just smacks of a blatant disregard for your user base.
It actually happened on my first visit to Arah today.
Doing P3, get to lupi with Flesh Golem out so I put him away after someone in the group insists you cant have pets out. Ok no biggie. I swap elite and problem solved(or not)…
until Lupi eats a grub that popped on the jagged horror, which popped from the staff 1 skill flying through the fly clouds. I have no idea of how common this is but I am now looking for a new build that has 0 points in Death Magic due to this.
Additionally its happened in Jade Maw too, Horror gets the skull and thus prolongs the fight.
I agree the event was fun for what it was (with the exception of the Festive Mini pets!!! and before anyone harps on I don’t mean the toys). It was casual enough that the casual players can’t expect to cry how they didn’t get to join in and easy enough that the hard core players did it then moved on to normal game stuff.
Bell ringing was fun
Jumping Puzzle was easier than Clock Tower, so there was less hate, but more of a challenge would have been nice.
each of the 5 Days was a fun diversion
Toypocalpyse was boring however it took too long and has zero replay value. it should either take long but be worth it or be short and never played again not both IMO.
GreyFeathers.8175 the only thing I would contradict you on is that favourable threads never get merged only the criticism threads do.
Did it once, kept all 5 Dollies alive then never even considered going back in, no point going in again I got the achievements why should I waste more time in there when I can get better rewards by doing AC for less time. Which incidentally allows me more time to not log in and do festive things with the family.
If you still have the frames make a tonic and buy the mini otherwise your out of luck and forget having them both.
Rudolph? Christmas? Who and/or what’s that?
I thought Tixx had already arrived in Lion’s Arch with his Infinirarium, to bring in Wintersday?
…All’s I’m sayin’ is tha’ when I wa’ walkin’ t’ ‘ospital, fer me ’ernia treatment, I ’ad t’ take a rest at near where tha’ girl lives. Ya’kno the one who ‘as been all in tha’ news lately.
Well I tel’ ye’ now, she wer walkin’ all fine as like, until her parents caught her.
Tha’ she wer in’t garden playin’ wi a Toy Golem runnin ‘bout like ’es ne’er sin a kid run. Then out tha’ blue, out come her parents yellin’ n’ shoutin’, “dun’t she kno’ how much gettin’ caught wud cost em?”
I tell yer now I ain’t ever seen a kid look so sad in all mi’ born days, n tha parents shud be ashamed I tell yas…
- How easy/hard do you find it to get the new minis? (Mystery Box & Giant Wintersday Gift droprate)
Undecided – None of the options fit. It’s not a matter of ease vs difficulty. It’s Cost and RNG that decide. Some may get all 4 minis after only 4 boxes, others none after a hundred.
- Are you satisfied with the given options to get the minipets?
No
- Have you bought/Will you buy any Mystery Boxes from the gemstore this Wintersday?
Yes
- Would you have bought the minipets from the gemstore if you were able to buy them? (No random drop from chest – You simply buy the minipet you want.)
Yes
use an invisible slot bags, to stop items getting deposited or moved about your inventory
Foostivoo, say it with me.. Foo-sti-voo.
And yes he needs to be bigger
So sick of people like the OP, all high and mighty “rage too soon did you? hmm?” (read in as smug a voice as you can muster). What they forget is that the rage/whatever you want to call it, was never about the minis you get ingame via Tixx( the toys).
Every thread I have read on the mini-gate saga that has been close to raging has been about the FESTIVE mini’s IE… the Snowman, Golem, Infiniarium(sp?) and Foostivoo. How they are linked to the cash shops RNG via lotto boxes and that to add insult to injury they are account bound.
The only people who keep the confusion going are people like the OP who either intentionally or not (i doubt the not part) get it wrong or are just trolling for the lulz.
Nhalx, the Golem, Snowman and Infinirarium are not craftable afaik and Foostivoo is crafted from 3 of the none craftable minis. There is your missing RNG.
Definitely RNG but you insist on ignoring that GIANT PRESENT BOXES DROP THEM TOO
See my last post above yours, I don’t ignore that they are in game. I think you’ll find that you are the one ignoring that regardless of where they are RNG is RNG.
For those who are still having issues I’ll explain,
RNG in the MMO sence stands for Random Number Generator, and is used to describe a chance (usually very slim such as 0.001% chance) to attain an item/reward.
A RNG is a number/loot reward picked by the servers in as random a fashion as a computer can make it as possible. If the GIANT PRESENT BOXES drop them it’s still a chance to obtain not a guarantee. A chance to obtain therefore still falls under the umbrella term of RNG.
I don’t get why so many people are complaining about MINIS… They are no more than completely aesthetic pets, it’s not a big deal if you can’t get every single mini from some event.
To the collectors not ever being able to get them all, due to a lack of funds at the present time to buy gems to RNG the hell out of the game is a big deal
On topic however, I’m in favour of Method 3 in the future but would like to see option 1 for the current event.
Nhalx, the Golem, Snowman and Infinirarium are not craftable afaik and Foostivoo is crafted from 3 of the none craftable minis. There is your missing RNG.
Yeah, and you have the craftable miniatures aswell. So it still stands. What RNG?
The collectors addiction or the free miniatures?
I get the impression that the phrase “you can lead a horse to water…” is apt but I’ll give it another shot, you never know the horse may actually drink this time.
Festive Golem
Snowman
Infinirarium
those three are mainly found in Cash Shop boxes which are RNG, granted they are in-game too but at a low low drop rate which I have seen on the forums guestimated by others as 0.001% to maybe 0.01% chance to drop (btw a chance to drop is still RNG)
I hope that is an adequate answer to your “What RNG?” question.
FWIW the issue isn’t so much the RNG. It’s the RNG combined with Account Bound tag on the RNG items.
If the minis were only available in Boxes and trade-able there would be no issue. but Anet in their infinite wisdom decided that they should be mainly obtained via Gems and bound to the account that bought the boxes.
Nhalx, the Golem, Snowman and Infinirarium are not craftable afaik and Foostivoo is crafted from 3 of the none craftable minis. There is your missing RNG.
Im not gonna buy a lottery ticket if I don’t win.
Technically you’d never buy a ticket, because until you do you won’t ever win. But thanks for adding to the discussion and keeping the thread relevant. I think the point to take away for that post is that Anet won’t sell, as many, lotto boxes if the customer never wins.
A method they could use in future is the hook a duck method.
I buy boxes from the cash shop.
each Box has 1x random festive item & 1 golden ticket (potenially tradeable item)
Golden tickets are used to buy Skins and Mini’s or whatever they have at the time in the event.
Using current event as example. You open a box and have a chance at getting a Mini but if you don’t get the mini you wanted you also still get a golden ticket. 20 golden tickets (or pick a number) = 1 mini pet = happy customer who didn’t feel fully screwed with box after box containing junk they didn’t want.
Why are people trying to placate us when they have no idea what they are talking about.
Guys. GUYS. Before you get mad about the main 5 minis
The OP is talking about the following mini’s…
Festive Golem
Snowman
Infinirarium
Foostivoo the Merry
those 4 minis are account abound, like the others (which you can get via ingame methods), but the only method to acquire those 4 is via RNG through the lotto box in the cash shop.
The issue is that they are account bound AND in lotto boxes. The only way you can get them is via either using cash or trading gold for gems. and not everyone who plays this game is part of the 1% (either gold or cash rich, take it as you will) who can afford to buy a potentially unlimited number of gems
Yazule
Not a big fan of the “gotta have everything” crowd tbh
whoopie doo, you personally have no interest in collecting… That’s FINE! It’s your gaming time and your perogative not to care.
But to dismiss an entire segment of the games population just because their play-style does not appeal to you does nothing but show your ignorance and selfishness. If you can’t see past your nose, to see when others who have likes that differ to yours are getting shaffed then please don’t expect the player-base to sympathise if your gameplay gets the fist at some point in the future.
Pointless even posting about this issue, all the threads about it so far have been buried, and as usual Anet are on call to reply to “thanks Anet awsome event” posts and nothing else.
They are no different then your Hall of Monuments Minis which are also Account Bound. They are supposed to be exclusive to you.
HoM mini’s took effort of the players in GW1 to earn for GW2, unlike the lotto box minis that only need you to have a bigger bank balance thank IQ.
Anyone who figures opening a potentially unlimited number of chests for a chance at getting the required set of 3 + 3 more for the special mini is ok is nuts.
Even if I did spend cash on the boxes, I could still technically spend £100 on trying to get the set of 3 + the special mini and only end up with 2 from the set, or even worse none due to bad roll of the RNG.
The entire thing stinks. Anet are showing their true colours as money-grabbing gold diggers who think their customers are nothing more than walking piggy-banks that they can dip into for a cash injection at leisure.
I have 2200 gems waiting for wintersday that I was going to buy outfits and minis with. But I can’t even be bothered to log in and spend them on the store after learning how the mini’s are done with these lottery boxes.
Mini’s should be like in Halloween, a box of 3 and you can get them with cold hard gems. This lotto box kitten is kittening kittening kittens with a puppy for good measure!
The USA Ronah did not create All Hallow’s Eve, it predates even the western colonisation of the USA by a few hundred centruies

People are actually hoping for C?
Of all the answers they could pick… for me C is the worst. It’s nothing but a delaying tactic. It answers nothing but presumes to answer everything with the promise of further discussion that is unlikely to ever happen. It’s pure PR spin doctoring and as already said by Shanaeri it is bad ju-ju to be messing with.
I recall during the Jita Riots in EVE-O, CCP tried to use similar tactics to quell the masses with answers that answer nothing. It made things much much worse and ended with the COE doing an awful lot of backpeddling and egg on his face (Watch what they do, not what they say.).
Personally I can only hope that they go with something akin to A or B, that is more of a direct insight into what they think in the office and how they view player feedback so far.
So is Phase 2 on hold due to the puppying problems with Phase 1?
spamming me too
When gw1 players heard there were going to be 80 levels not 20 I said “that’s fine”.
SNIP
You sir need to get your head outta your kitten Your long summary of cluster Eff and garbage isn’t even worth reading but I can already flame your first sentence and that alone means you needa “Get the hell out”.
Who are you to represent the gw1 community and say “Fine” to a lvl 80 cap? From what I can see it’s not a simple “It’s fine” but more like “It’s AWESOME”
Reading fail much? You should get your head out of your kitten it’s stopping your eyes from doing their job.
Who are you to represent the gw1 community and say “Fine” to a lvl 80 cap?…
Re-read that first line again and I think you’ll find the OP actually said ‘I said "that’s fine"’
gwawer, I would upvote but my vote never seems to stick.
Also a wall of /signed leaves a much more poignant visual impression for the devs should they care to look.
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
-Mike Obrien, President of ArenanetFun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
– Colin JohansonLies, lies and more lies.
“I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.
Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.
Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.
Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores."Chris Whiteside – Studio Design Director
Lying about lies, that must be a sad joke.
I’m disgusted.

looks like I’ll be spending more time walking the dog in future.
@ least I can see why they were so reluctant to hold back the patch notes now, I can only imagine the kitten storm that would have created (oh… wait, we have a thread-naught here already)
@ fellyn.5083 & before anyone else jumps on the “so he can get rich quick” bandwagon for wanting to know ahead of time, If only I had 2 copper to rub together I might actually attempt it, but alas I don’t and nor do I have inside knowledge of what is coming but it’s nice to see what your first thoughts would be to do if you had patch notes.
My reason and YMMV is because I would like to have more speculation threads about the new content.
I’d like to plan my future builds out (if any need to be changed based on the class changes coming) both in pve and pvp.
I’d love to know what nerfs are coming so that I can relish in the whine of tears in all the class forums.
@ MLieBennett.9031 “It also seems standard practice for every other mmo to have a lengthy downtime while applying said patch.” …. It’s also standard practice for some MMO’s to have a subscription, some to be F2P and some to be B2Win, but just like the quoted text of yours my rebuttal has 0 relevance to the thread.
Why do you need to know ahead of time?
It’s standard practice in almost every other mmo I have played (even non mmo’s often have patch notes ahead of patch day eg Civ V), to offer patch notes befaor the patch goes live, GW2 is the first, that I have seen, that offers patch notes post patch.
Thinking its fun or hard because you have to zerg it doesen’t make you cool.
You don’t need to zerg it, those who do have no idea of what to do to properly to kill it with ease, just keep the ember population in check to make it a painless world boss.
Fire Ele does not spawn when the DE chain fails. The golem is brought in to clean up(Pre DE), it cleans then it moves into the top area(new Pre DE starts). You protect it and at the end (when the timer ends and the event succeeds) it goes haywire turning into the fire ele.
I agree fire ele is by far the best world event that I have seen so far, but only because the embers are so deadly.
Slithid.8632 why do a new post? There is a dedicated thread and it’s merged for a reason. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/halloween/Hurricane-Sandy-Interuppts-our-Halloween-Event-Merged/page/2#post567178
the one time event item was the cut scene, whoopdie doo turns out it lead to a dungeon that is being solo farmed while legitimate players cant even get into a group for. Anet once again showing that dropping the ball on stuff is becoming their specialty.
What will happen next is a nerf to the dungeon event so it can only be done once per day resulting in people not even bothering to try and thus hurting legitimate players more than the farmers.
If all else fails google argos soft and have a look at the GW2 resources page. They have something similar
Sigh,
GMT is a standardised international time. It never has daylight savings. It is always GMT. If your nation uses GMT then its at 7pm for you. if your in a timezone where its GMT+3 then it is at 10pm.
MrPowel has the crux of it (that PDT/PST are not international standards of timing) but by and large its irrelevant as they also post with GMT times now for events (I’m guessing due to pressure from the community)
notebene, smackjack sums up my dense comment quite nicely and anything I add will detract from the point s/he explains so well.
Edit: smackjack i totally didn’t see the connection with the other thread, i think i may be getting too old for this internets are serious stuffz malarkie.
(edited by Taiance.6213)
Danicco, you get physical reactions from playing a game and your happy to suffer through it?
I’m sorry but for me the new FoV makes playing finally a pleasure, I have less eye strain, and not a single headache since changing over. If immersion is what we are calling making ourselves ill over then I don’t want to be immersed. I want a game I can play and come away from feeling well.
The FoV changes are ace and I’ll throw my lot in with the we need a slider crowd, choice is good.
Yes, yes we can do all these wonderful conversion sites that have one button push automated world times blagh blagh blagh but….
That was not the point of the thread. It was a thanks to Anet for using a STANDARDISED international time rather than a US centric time zone that’s not standard year round. And in the spirit of the OP I’ll add my thanks to anet too. Having a standardised time is so much easier for people the world over to convert from without having to resort to fancy websites and potentially still be wrong (especially with one time only events happening)
roll a Mesmer and portal the bots to a corner of the world where there are no mobs, if they aren’t bots they wont use to portal. If they aren’t bots and accidentally use the portal they can cry you a river about it. It’s not hard to mess with the bots, a guild running round with pitch forks won’t help one iota unless you have Mesmers in it.
OP must be trolling, no one can ever be this dense and still know how to use a keyboard to type.
No more event stuff for me, anet killed it. The design philosophy was supposed to be “is it fun”. So far all I see is the fun sapped out of everything that was fun to do in game.
Its endearing, cute and typical of a kid. If you want to do trading then go to Rata Sum, it’s much better laid out for access to all services and crafting than any other city is.
The dialogue is also important as it encourages players to talk to the kids who don’t have unique names. They all have trade in options for corn into Personalised trick or treat bags and who would talk to them otherwise without prompting?
7:11:3:189:101 Error here too, for me and my partner.
Started after patch as was all fine last night. ISP say nothing wrong locally with the network.

@ Ellendi.6742 Yes It kinda does, @ least with a fixed standard times such as GMT and UTC you know you don’t have the rubbish about daylight savings to calculate around. That is the joy of having fixed international times. Alas I guess something as complex as the notion of “International” would be hard pressed to be accepted by a nation who’s idea of a ‘world series’ is to play against themselves.
