I haven’t seen a thread about this. But in the old Guildwars game when an expansion or new campaign were released there was a nice big list of new ranger animal companions that are released. So I was wondering if anyone had any hopes/ideas for what new pets they will hopefully add?
I am hoping that we will be able to get our hands on crocodiles and rats, even though neither was found in the maguuma jungle in the first game. But Hyenas weren’t found in Ascalaon in the first game either.
All I really want to know about is, will we be getting new pets to unlock? I really really hope so.
I have a question similar to this. Are the chapters unlocked via account or characters? Because I’d like to play through living world when I make my revenant.
Chapters are unlocked account-wide I believe. I haven’t purchased any, only unlocked through logging in during the time it was available, but my other characters can access all the parts of the story and play in any order they wish to.
Thanks.

From Colin’s own mouth…
“For this one, we looked at what we would get out of adding a new race and what benefit it actually brings to the players from a gameplay standpoint. It’s very limited in Guild Wars 2. A new race adds a racial skill or two and a little bit of story, but it doesn’t give that much meaningful gameplay in the grand scheme of things. The race is more context for the early story that you experience. So we wanted to focus things that would provide a lot more gameplay and address parts of Guild Wars 2 that we felt like we really wanted to be able to make a better experience and grow. So right now, we didn’t feel that a new race was a key need for the game, whereas the other things that we’re adding really provide fundamental building blocks for the future.”
Honestly, after reading that, I’m rather certain we’ll never get a new race. It’s a costly endeavor to add a new race. From writing them into the personal story to paying to have them voiced to ensuring every existing weapon and armor fits their frame during attack animations, that’s a lot of money and man hours for something that ultimately has relatively little impact on the game. As a guy who’s had an empty character slot reserved for a tengu thief since shortly after launch, I now have zero expectations I’ll ever get to make one.
I am iffy on it all, it actually seems a little odd for them to say that considering how much they work different skins into the game. Anet has always seemed to understand the visual appeal of new features, a race though not adding much in terms of “gameplay” does add much in the terms of enjoying the content, and it would keep a lot of players coming back.
Personally I think we will have one eventually, but it wont be till they feel like they need to add it.
kill them all.
When I watched the Pax thing, I got the distinct impression that they meant Rytlock was going to be the first in game Revenant , not necessarily the first in the universe. And considering that it bears resemblance to the Ritualist in GW Factions, I doubt Anet would do that.
I’m buying it as soon as the option to pre-order is possible. I’ve been a fan of the Guild Wars games since it first came out. I enjoyed what I saw today on Twitch. The only thing that I am disappointed in is the lack of Tengu as a playable race. Everything was vague I agree, but I think that was all because they want to string out the hype so no one runs away till it is released. I am just hopeing I have enough time to gather enough tomes of knowledge to be ready to hit level 80 on day 1.
IT is explained during the living story, when the waypoint vibration frequency is altered. Is it not?
I would hope for an expansion to Elona. We do have much more reason to go there, and in lore it states Order of whispers has been helping smuggle people out of there for a while. That and having Kralky sitting right on top of it, a horde of neat and dry undead, as opposed to the soggy kind. Djinn, could even be a possible race for Elona, or possibly even heket.
Judeing from the last part of LS I think we will be going to the Crystal desert and perhaps we will need to become ascended before fighting old bramble bones.
Oh that makes sense, I completely forgot about the pvp skins, since I always used the same weapons. Thank you.
I hope this is the write place to put this.
I don’t really know when this happened but today while I was looking at my skins I discovered a weapon skin that shouldn’t be there. Titans’ Vengeance has appeared in my unlocked skins section, and I am at least 99% positive that I have never unlocked it. There was a small time a few months back that my account was temporarily hacked , but I got it back and had my account reset. So I don’t really know what caused this, and thought I should tell someone but didn’t think it was something to submit a ticket about.
I am having a real issue with medium armor. I started off playing a ranger and didn’t really notice the lack of variation in it. It is nothing but a bunch of coats, The only piece of chest armor that doesn’t call below the waist is attained from a pvp track, Which means I’ll probably never attain it. As it stands it is easier to make my elementalist look like an assassin/thief then it is to make my thief look like one.
I wanted the assassin look so bad I went and got the costume/outfit from the gemstore, and you can’t pick and choose what pieces to use with those. :/
Anyone else see this as an issue?
I started playing GW1 the year it came out, and instantly fell in love with it. I was also one of the people who bought a GW2 collectors edition, my I got my lovely little statue right on my desk.
The things I miss about GW1:
- The much wider variety of species in the world. Several of the new species they added really bother me, because they just seem so cliche. Giant mosquitoes and wasps, also wargs. I miss the ;dinosaurs, Hydras, Husks, the behemoths, simians, the older insects that seemed more fitting then just large bugs.
- I miss the scope of the map. I think the maps are both pretty close to the same size, though a lot has been cut off and hidden. but with all of the waypoints, gw2 just feels so much smaller. I wish they would remove most of the way points, and only put them in cities, forts, villages. Places where there are people to take care of them. Being able to jump nearly anywhere on the map in 10 minutes, just makes it feel so much smaller.
- The Lore and quests I miss the most. Every quest you took on in GW1 had a story with it, they might not have been the greatest story, but there was a story. There were usually a few paragraphs you had to read through before clicking accept or deny. The Dynamic events in GW2 just lack depth. They are about issues going on right now, any they repeat so often that they lose meaning, if they ever had any. Most of them just feel the same, protect me, guard me, kill them, escort me.
-I really miss class armor. Don;t get me wrong, I love the dye system and the armors we have in GW2, I just with we had a few options that we could only use by being a certain profession.
-Pets – As a ranger I really miss watching my pets grow. I really miss choosing one single pet and making it feel like a companion. Not choosing it because of its special abilities, because they didn’t have any. But just choosing the pet I thought looked the best standing or flying next to my character. And I miss watching them just grown and eventually becoming a dire/elder/playful big cuddly pet. I really miss my Elder Hyena.
Things I love about GW2:
- The dye system, I adore this system. It is so amazing. The dye system in GW1 was so limited, you got a few colors that you could mix and match. But you couldn’t dye different parts of the armor, and a number of times those parts were pretty small.
- The Living Story , I love it. The first season wasn’t great and scarlet seemed pretty dull for me. But I like the way the second season is progressing and marks a big improvement over the first. Which is understandable, Anet is learning as they go. And I look forward to seeing thew new maps and new stories as they come.
-I actually enjoy the combat system more. In GW1 I was awful at making my own builds, and was always asking for help in choosing a build to use, or hopping over to pvx to find something to use. I am more comfortable making my own builds in GW2, though a few more skill choices would be awesome. Just not as many as GW1 those skills were far too overwhelming.
-The open world is fun. the majority of time there are people around you who will help you out when you need a hand with a tough enemy.
-You actually have to loot a body and the loot you get is secret. when I played in GW1 with a group of friends, I always felt like the game had it out for me. It always seemed like I was getting the short end of a blue staff. While my friends got the more colorful and useful and valuable items.
-All the pretty weapon skins. There are just so many to choose from, and I love that. I like the wardrobe options, so I can scroll through the skins and then go out and try to find my dream weapon/armor.
I was just wondering if anyone else has been having this issue. Since I downloaded the patch I’ve been having connectivity issues. I sign-in, log in with my character, and then I disconnect. Or sometimes I last for a little while but I end up disconnecting. It seems pretty easy to reconnect most of the time. But it is happening pretty frequently. Especially when I am in a city. Anyone having this same issue, or have any idea how I can remedy the situation before I file a ticket?
Also, note that GW1 maps were just built different. Due to their strict pathing and other features, side areas could be designed to look thick and impassable. GW2 Kryta is almost entirely traversable, hence a sparser “foresty” feel as opposed to a dense jungle vibe.
It isn’t just that, there are less sandy beaches, and the trees are vastly different so is the general shrubbery and smaller plants. I understand the spreading out of trees and plants. But the very type of plants changed a lot.
I understand the changes they made where the trees are more spread out, I even understand why they made the hills smaller.
Well, the Shiverpeaks have always been presented as Tyria’s equivalent of the Himalayas, which are effectively an alpine region right next door to (sub)tropical lowland India.
Regarding the flora, I have a couple of ideas:
The first is essentially that GW1 wasn’t truly representative. GW1 tended to have a lot of shortcuts in its presentation, one being that areas that were grouped under a certain region tended to have the same style regardless of whether it really made sense or not (Verdant Cascades anyone?). So in Kryta’s case, everything had the tropical look regardless of whether it was on the coast of the Sea of Sorrows (which was the majority of Kryta back then, and which is still shown as tropical now) or inland regions further north that might have been more temperate. The current arrangement of biomes might be less of a change per se, and more that they’re showing finer detail in the biomes.
The second is that the climate in the region has actually changed. We’ve seen some other more significant changes in climates (Mt Maelstrom in particular) and the geographical changes will also have had some significant effects on the climate. We’ve seen some significant geological activity since GW1 and changes in coastlines and river directions which will influence prevailing currents – it’s possible, for instance, that Kryta used to receive a warm current flowing into the Bay of Sirens, but events such as the Cataclysm and Joko’s diversion of the Elon disrupted that current causing a slight cooling of northern Kryta, allowing temperate flora species to outcompete tropical species. Finally, of course, we have strong indications that the gods did actually meddle in Tyria’s climate in GW1’s time, so it’s possible that they were artificially warming what was then northern Kryta and with their departure it cooled.
Maybe, at least it would make some sense. It is better then thinking they just wanted to make it look more like the prophecies starter area. The cooling effect could also be caused by the the push of Jormag, making the shiverpeaks colder.
There are a lot of unanswered questions left in the 250 years between EOTN and GW2.
Like why are the dredge suddenly midgets? What happened to all the wide variety of dinosaurs, or the gargoyles, How did the Tengu band together.
But my question today is what happened to Kryta? When I started playing GW2 I didn’t really like Kryta, but I didn’t know why. I just realized what has been bugging me about the land of the humans. Kryta doesn’t look like the old kryta. I have been playing through prophecies again, and The Kryta back then is so tropical and beautiful. Is there in lore reason to why kryta suddenly looks a lot more foresty?
I have tried several times over the last few days to buy 20$ worth of gems. The process goes fine till the 3rd page where it asks you to click the box to accept the terms and confirm your order. Then it says error and unable to purchase at this time. I’ve tried this on different maps and different characters. I hope this was the right place to post this, or should I have submitted a ticket?
I think E is going to be Evennia. At least that is my hope. IT was hinted that she was involved in something much bigger. And we know Livia lived to be several hundred years old, so it might have been possible for Evennia as well. I don’t have much belief that this is true, but I will continue to hope. I want to know what became of her.
Hello Gaile
I’d like to know anything about 569833
IT has been almost 4 days, but I understand these things take time.
I temporarily lost my account, and I now believe I have it back in my possession. I am looking to get a reset, and change emails. Just to be extra safe.
(edited by TakaYama.5394)
Does anyone know how long that process takes? to get a reply?
You should almost immediately get the ‘We got your request, someone will assist you…’ response.
After that, it may take a few days. If after 72 hours, you have no response, you can post your ticket number in the Sticky at the top of the page.
Thank you.
Does anyone know how long that process takes? to get a reply?
This has happened to me as well.
been forced to change my password 3 times in two days. I’ve lost all my gold, and a few items.
I scanned my computer and found nothing.
But I also use yahoo. So that might be my issue.
I too have really enjoyed the living story, it did come off at a rocky start with fire and ice. I spent a lot of time in that thinking I’ve been missing something. But I am much more of a story/lore buff and a lot of people seem to complain about the mechanics and achievements. I really don’t care much about those things. But for me the greatest moment was when the Zeph’s talked about Glint, I was just so thrilled. I really hope they go back to that. I loved those small things.
I do have but one complaint and that is only relevant for the last 2 patches. I don’t much like the farming brought in by the game. But that is a small personal issue, but over all this is free content and LS was not the reason I bought the game. I bought the collectors edition because I loved GW and I love Anet.
I miss my mini watch knight. :/
I had a lot of stuff to say, now I have no idea how to put it into words. I’ll still try though. I’ve had mixed feelings about the living story, Fire and Ice rolled out so slowly, that I spent most of my time wondering if I was missing something. The Holiday stuff was fun, but I always seemed to miss the ‘one time’ only events, that also happened with some of the southsun final stuff. However these last few events have seemed to be better, still small in a way. Stuff that is one five minute mission, then over. I am really hoping to see more stuff like Southsun, where we get to see new places, or what would be great is a way to get people into the empty parts of the map, like Timberline falls.
But, to me those are only minor conflicts, I love everything that is happened all I want is more. I eat this kind of stuff up, lore and story are my favorite parts of the guildwars universe. The few tidbits about Glint in the Bazaar of the Four Winds, that made everything else about those events worth while to me. I love you A-net, and looking forward at what is to come!
Yes, in a heart beat.
Even though there are several problems I have with the game, I can put them aside and enjoy the fun I have with it. The only complaint I really have about the game has to do with dynamic events. Other then that, i would love to take on a new storyline, hopefully one even long and more fulfilling then what we have been tasked with in GW2 so far. Also the constant devaluing of gold for gems, really blows. I don’t have a lot of excess money, it took me months to save up the spare cash to buy GW2 so I relay a lot on buying gems with gold, and I don’t make that much when I’m out hunting, though I admit I am bad at farming.

There are also the lands the Heket and Harpies come from, which is a land beyond Vabi.
There is also mention of lands beyond the Maguuma Wastes, and early in one of the Sylvari story lines, we learn there is another pale tree out there.
My biggest questions mostly revolve around the absence of animals and monsters. There were so many more creatures to kill back then , then there are now. There were so many things like the wide variety of dino’s, Hydra’s, loads of insects and plants and undead. I do believe there are reasons for it, though I am not entirely sure what they could be.
But there are a few mentions of ‘missing monsters’ like the Hydra Queen, and Aloe seeds, and small things like that. So we know that they did not just remove them from cannon. If they no longer wished to use them, it would have been easy to say the charr cleared out all the hydra when they retook Ascalon. The same can be said with the Asura perhaps taking out the rest of the dino’s except the raptors which had a pretty large population back then.
So what happened to the Hydras? What happened to the Saurians? The primates? The Gargoyles? The insects? The plant life? The Mandragor? The Dyrder?
And why did so many races change? was it all cosmetic? because some are really different, like the giants. Some look similar, like the imps, now they can fly and look less cartoony, and the dedge look similiar albeit much smaller. The Grawl and Centaurs, still look really close to what they did in the past, but much more detailed and elegant.
I really want to know about this kind of stuff. I need answers, :’(
I really have to agree, because I work weekends. I really feel like I get to miss a lot because I work on Saturday and Sunday, I got to miss major events, and after a while it really starts to make you not feel like logging on because, what is the point when I don’t get to be part of those huge mobs taking on a once in a life time boss. It just gets depressing. We need to look back at GW1, I think DE’s are a great concept but should also be coupled with quests, more content like the personal story. Adding more would be amazing.
Why not make the ‘extra content’ like a personal story, where you follow a personal chain, wither alone or with a group?
Wow so many replies haha.
Well for me it all depends on where we are headed. IF we are going back to Elona, which is my fondest wish Nightfall was my favorite campaign. I’d love to see either Djinn or Centaurs. I’d love to have the forgotten back for Elona as well, but I fear that will just never happen.
For Cantha, if we do go back. And from what I hear that is a very iffy subject, it will be a lot harder to get new races. As we saw in the winds of change, sentient races were beginning to be pushed out of cantha. So there is a possibility of perhaps wardens, but I’d guess they had also been killed especially since their leader was killed.
Most likely I think we will be first seeing a new area. In that case, I want a brand new race, I want something that will catch me completely off guard. Something with no lore, or with only the vaguest hints of. I kind of suspect that we will be going off towards the wastes, I mean there is an early Sylvari PS story line where there is mention that another pale tree is up river. So it is very possible we will also be playing a different type of rabbit food.
I would be severally disappointed if A-net did not take us back to Cantha and Elona. Part of what I loved so much about those places was because of the similarities between cultures. I’d not like them as much if they seemed more ordinary, they would just seem bland. Plus it is only natural to let our world influence the ones we create. Cantha was far from a carbon copy of China or Korea, it was very unique. So Was Elona, I personally want to go back very badly, I was hoping we would see Elona first and then Cantha. But There is so much story and lore in those places and so much we can do there. It feels like leading us on if you don’t go back. I mean they are having problems with a dragon as well! WE NEED TO GO TO CANTHA PLEASE!
Same issue as a few people. I went to buy some dye on the trading post and got an Error message, it took my money but didn’t say I bought anything. Lucky I only lost a few silver.
