I’ve done six runs so far and nobody in my party has got it. I thought the price would have dropped by this point, but the jetpacks on the TP keep getting bought up and relisted for 100g+. It’s pretty kittening frustrating since this is the first time I’ve cared about rewards from these one times events.
My options are keep running nonstop for 12 days or somehow farm the 100+ gold I’d need to afford the cheapest one. kittening add this kitten to the gemstore after events. All Anet accomplishes with this stuff is a kittened up economy.
I’m not quitting over something as minor as a skin, but Anet isn’t doing a good job of endearing me to this living story stuff or their decisions on it.
Having a class able to more easily counter a difficult class isn’t really a bad thing. My guardian was able to shrug off zerk thieves while still wearing greens and rares. They can only steal two boons, which will be random, every five seconds. They’re able to steal 4, but that requires a trait that’s locked inside of a pretty unused tree iirc.
Guardians who don’t like this change come off to me as people afraid of needing to put thought in to a fight instead of just slapping on a kittenton of boons and calling it a day.
Another point worth mentioning is this is an extremely specific type of counter. Warriors also got the “Boon Hate Trait” deep in to a tree. Aside from guardians and a certain build of engineers, it just won’t be very effective unless you only ever go for those specific types of enemies.
The patch/dungeon has been out for a day… Patience is a virtue. While this is basic economics (and I don’t mean to patronise you) as more drop and find their way onto the TP the price will come down, just give it some time.
Except that we don’t have access to the dungeon for very long, which means less time and chances for it to drop, so I doubt the price is going to drop much, if it does at all. I really wish they would stop putting such rare stuff into the temporary content. The drop rate really needs to be upped, on the jetpack and the mini.
I think the real thing is how many people are actually willing to shell out the 100g for the pack. That’s a serious chunk of change that not a lot of people can have. There’s a pretty tiny amount of buy orders right now because it’s mostly in the 50g+ range. Logic says it has to drop at some point because there’s not that many people with that much cash floating around to spend on skins.
But along those lines, are you going to just sell it for the highest buy order or would you look at what people have it listed at and sell it for that and hope (I guess) that it sells? I just don’t see people trying to sell it for lower (by a large) amounts that what the lowest for sale is.
Hard to say. MMOs usually have some pretty impatient people who like to sell something the second they get it though, so I think it’s a safe bet that they’re going to start causing the price to drop.
I would think that fun would be a reward in and of its self.
I am not capable of writing with sufficient precision to please everyone.
You’ve gotten sucked in to the concept that a MMO requires a definite reward or payoff for every single action done by players?
I would think that fun would be a reward in and of its self. Do you go to the movies because you get a reward for doing it or do you go because you’d enjoy watching the movie?

Yeah, it understandably got pretty volatile after people started logging in after school/work and people found out about the new shinies. Now at this point it’s really whether enough people start running the new instance enough or not and if part of the reason is the event only lasts 12 days.
A cash shop option would be nice for this stuff after one time events. All that’s really accomplished is the economy is thrown out of wack each time.

I was thinking this would be what would happen, but using the SGS as an example, it skyrocketed after people realized the event was ending soon and there would be a new round of skins next time so it was going away.
Still, people are undercutting each other by 25g so I imagine it’ll reach a low pretty soon.
I didn’t know you were required to log in or else you would lose your house and the ability to feed yourself.
Was just curious on the estimated drop chance on the Jetpack skin in the new temporary instance. Last night there were ten or fifteen on the Trading Post and as of posting this there are seven with the lowest buyout price being 144 gold. I ran the new instance four times yesterday and not a single person in any of my parties managed to snag the new skin.
I get that the chances for it to be in the chest must be pretty low, but surely they’re not that low are they? This is the first time I’ve actually cared about a skin from one of these events and it’s basically skyrocketed well out of my reach.
You know what’s good incentive to run a dungeon? A kittening jetpack as a reward.
Some players were commenting that Hold the line removed conditions with out Pure of Voice being traited. I noticed this too but i thought it was Signet of Resolve and coincidence
Wow, so obviously something not very many people even knew about gets fixed, and Scepter’s auto attack, the one thing that surely every Guardian player knows about, including some people who didn’t even play a Guardian, get’s ignored!!!!
Please Anet! If, (just IF) this is really an intentional design, JUST LET US FRIGGING KNOW!!
For the record I don’t have a problem with the scepter, I understand how the Guardian class is supposed to work. Please do not use my comments to complain about something you do not like. Gamers have been complaining about the guardian scepter since forever. I am pretty sure this has reached the developers ears months ago.
what happened with Hold the Line was a bug; it wasn’t supposed to happen and they fixed it. Anet didn’t have to say anything about it, but hey they admitted they made a mistake which is great.
I wasn’t “Using your comments to complain”
And as I’ve clearly said. why don’t they say something? If it has reached their ears, they should say something to shut people (like me) up. Literally, all it would take is “This design is intentional, It will not be changed” And boom!
Honestly, no one can argue with that.
Anet have been pretty notorious so far about largely ignoring questions and concerns from the player base outside of the Reddit Q&A sessions and State of the Game videos. Kind of silly, really.
So it looks like every singet in the game got buffed except judgement?
Judgement and Resolve. A 20% passive damage reduction and 5 second single condition cleanse would just be silly. We’re already hella tanky even without running Judgement.
Yeah. all our build is just be… kittened by a thief skill.
And from now, you can see thief steal boons from every enemy like candy :-D
Every build based on boons has been destroyed by one single fix.
It’s an ability they can use every five seconds and it only takes up to two boons. I’m not sure I’ve even seen a glass cannon thief last the 10 or 15 seconds he’d need to steal my most minimum amount of boons.
No major nerfs and some minor balance type stuff. Guardian will still feel like one of the most complete classes. Can’t complain.
Regular players have access to cheap and decent gear while there are still options in place for barons and price manipulations mostly in the form of things like dyes, rare armor sets, and material bags.
I don’t see the issue, but I guess I’m not an expert video game marketing…..person.
It’s either part of a secret zionist conspiracy set forth by the New World Order or a misplaced item by a world builder.
TLDR: I like writing essays about schlock at 4am. Sorry for the atrocious layout. It’s hard to format on the forums and my edits don’t want to go through.
I want to preface this by saying that I neither expect or really want anything within the personal story to change. To do so would cause a reworking of a major part of the game when there are far too many more important aspects that require attention. These are my opinions and, as a fan of writing and especially character developments, I simply felt like sharing them.
That being said, Trahearne feels as though he is someone’s D&D character that managed to leak in to the story at some point. While I understand the desire to not have every player running around be The Chosen One, I feel that Trahearne was given far too much importance within the story to the point of the suspension of disbelief being broken along with managing to make characters that had been important before seem like meat shields from that point on. Simply put, Trahearne was elevated to a status that was practically messianic for no real reason.
My first character being a Sylvari, I was “introduced” to Trahearne at a very early point within the story. At that point he was presented as a valuable researcher of Orr, the bona fide expert on the subject, but there was no indication of what was in store for his character roughly ~30 levels later. In fact, it is really not until after Claw Island that my issues with Trahearne really begin to surface.
After Claw Island is overrun by the undead, your character and Trahearne visit the Pale Tree to enter The Dream and see visions of what may happen in the future. I feel this segment of the story could have come during a later point in the story, namely when there isn’t a dragon chewing on some Asura in Lion’s Arch, but I digress. During your stay within The Dream, it is revealed that Trahearne will become a great general and lead united forced against Zhaitan’s army. This in its self is not too offensive as The Dream is able to impart wisdom and knowledge on any Sylvari it chooses.
What follows your journey in to The Dream is a sequence of events in which players are told, yet not shown why, that many lead characters within the story revere Trahearne. As the three factions gather in Lion’s Arch to discuss the best strategy, Trahearne convinces every single member to unite with hardly any second guessing or argument. Much of this is due to the immense respect that each faction leader has for Trahearne.
After Claw Island is retaken, the three factions agree to join as one force, The Pact, which is ruled by Trahearne. Again, hardly any discussion was given by leaders of the three factions. They suddenly set aside all of their differences because Trahearne wanted them to. Even Moses, Jesus Christ, and Muhammad, the prophets of the three Abrahamic faiths, were well in to their middle or late years before they began to inspire enough loyal followers to become significant. Players are expected to believe that Trahearne is fit to lead these forces simply because they are told so. This ruins what depth or arc Trahearne may have been given up to this point.
On the subject of being told yet not shown, it seems that every denizen of Tyria is in debt to Trahearne for one reason or another. Characters are introduced for one mission simply to stand in awe of him and are never seen again once the mission is completed. Even more annoying, often times these reasons are not even given. The worst offender is the introduction of a character from an entirely new race I was not even aware existed up to this point. Despite this character’s race being insular and aloof of other races, this woman has such great respect for Trahearne that she agrees to help you destroy some of Zhaitan’s most vital minions. To reiterate, we are introduced to an entirely new race simply to make Trahearne seem even more important. This is the kind of writing one would expect from a middle schooler, not someone who I assume to be a professional with a degree.
While I would like to discuss the deus ex machinas employed by Trahearne near the end of the story, I must confess that I did not complete it. I was only able to see one such instance. In the mission right after killing the Eye of Zhaitan, a new form of magic that had never before been mentioned is used to reveal what The Eye saw. While the details I hazy, I distinctly remember Trahearne being a master of this newly revealted type of magic for no real reason other than to once again take the spotlight from the supporting characters.
In closing, I will leave you with the Wikipedia explanation of a Mary Sue. The proxy character of an author, a Mary Sue is often too underdeveloped while still being the personification of perfection. This type of character easily distances an audience from a character; there is simply nothing to relate to. To I believe that a writer at Anet is living vicariously through Trahearne? Eh, mostly not. Do I believe that Trahearne is shallow, unnecessary, and a detriment to the overall story? I absolutely do.
I see every nerf as a challenge. My current build became less viable because a major skill is nerfed? I take it as a challenge to readjust and rebuild my character. Getting the end-game gears is so bloody easy in this game, I already have a few set of exotic armor just to cater for different builds I am experimenting. Re-distribution of trait points is so easy and inexpensive.
The problem is, a lot of the people who cry about nerfs CAN’T readjust their build because they only use the latest greatest cookie cutter build they found on the forums. So they have to sit and whine about how their class is useless until the next super awesome copy/paste build comes along.
To be fair, a lot of classes suffer from pretty bad traits in that one or two trees will far and away be better than the others. Ideally, Anet should be buffing other builds to be more in line with the powerful ones rather than nerfing the good builds so they’re as bad as the rest.
People do like to complain, and after a point it is exaggeration, but some classes are still pretty messed up.
These events in orr are very boring, which is why nobody does them.
Man, don’t hate. I snagged like 2g just from the Balth pre-events and another 5g from a sigil from Melandru. With a small group the fights are actually pretty intense.
Fine by me. Divinity’s Reach is pretty along with lacking a bunch of complaining about the gem store pick and mystic forge in map chat, unlike LA.
I think LA is just so crowded because you can warp to it easily using the mists. If other cities had easy access buttons, I’d be spending most of my time in Divinity’s Reach. But I opt for the free and fairly fast warp to LA instead.
Also this.
Honestly if you reach a point where you’re comfortable with it in PvE, there’s no real reason not to wear full Berserker gear if you can manage it. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll be a lot squisher than a full Berserk warrior unless you manage your buttons well. You’ll be fine for everything except extremely high level fractals, but by that time you won’t need to ask people what gear you should be wearing.
If you find yourself more interested in WvW, then Indoles’s suggestion about a split between knights/zerk gear is a good starting point. After that, you can add or take away as you see fit. Guardians are actually pretty flexible in how you can build them and there’s some breathing room to allow for personal preference here and there.
Also be sure to keep a decent compliment of weapons instead of only ever carting around Staff/GS. I can’t remember how many times I’ve needed to switch to Scepter/X for a Champ since meleeing is usually great if you want to get murdered in two hits.
Oh no, a counter to my class that might actually be effective? Say it isn’t so! Half the time I don’t even realize I’m being attacked by a thief until I see the loon in a robe rolling around like an idiot.
They’ll still be glass cannons and scamper off as soon as they realize I’m not going to blow all my cooldowns the second after they hit me.
Boon Hate is just another gimmick so berserker warriors can feel like they’re doing more than spamming shouts or getting Kill Shots on upscaled level 20s in WvW. Just don’t build yourself out of paper and use your cooldowns wisely and you’ll be fine.

Honestly guardian needs access to bows or rifles more than staff needs a retooling. Staff is an extremely powerful support tool and I’d hate to have it changed up. Scepter is pretty lacking even in PvE since the orbs take so long to travel to their target. I guess the obvious solution is just to up the speed on the orbs, but bows look way cooler. :v
Maybe you’d care less about skimpy clothing in video games if you had someone to dress skimpily for you in real life.
Let’s not turn this into personal attacks please.
Oh, but saying women should run around half naked isn’t a personal attack?
It is only an attack of you perceive it as such. It certainly isn’t one directed at anyone in particular to make it “personal”. It is however, something of a crass request. You could be more on topic however and say why it doesn’t work with the game. Attack his opinion, not him directly.
I’m sorry my witty comebacks aren’t good enough for you in a thread about some guy wanting to run around as a half naked woman. I’ll phone my parents up and tell them I failed them as a son.
I like my female characters to show off some skin :|
Might I suggest Second Life? That game is full of half naked video game “ladies”.
Maybe you’d care less about skimpy clothing in video games if you had someone to dress skimpily for you in real life.

I will have to agree that The Secret World is about the only thing I can think of that has the buy once and play forever system that doesn’t ostracize you for nothing buying into their cash shop. They seem to be doing ok with their cash shop and haven’t made any serious dependence on it.
The other f2p games with cash shops now like Aion and the countless ones usually put a heavy emphasis on the cash shop. Not forcing you into it, but the game feels very barren without using the items they provide.
SWTOR seems to be middle of the road, but to be honest the limitations they apply on your account is a little ridiculous to me. Especially as someone who was a paying subscriber up to that point. I can now not even access half of my quick bars. >.< Nevermind all the races, etc. I have no idea if they changed this from last year, but it just totally ruined any chance of me ever playing it again.
Quality can be hard to find when ‘free’ gets thrown into the picture. I have to agree that at least GW2’s paywall seems to help them quite a bit in keeping it so though. Same went for GW1.
Star Trek Online actually has a really nice cash shop. Not a single item in it gives you an in-game advantage. It’s all just skins. Last I heard STO was making loads of money for NcSoft as well.
STO has it’s own share of problems though, mainly a lack of any real end game for a product that’s been out for years.
Sorry, Runescape claims the title of best MMO.
. . . if you tell the scam-spammers to stop emailing me about my nonexistant Runescape account being suspended/banned then I promise to try it.
How do you know that your account from the future hasn’t been compromised and now they have to send back emails to warn you?
Sorry, Runescape claims the title of best MMO.
Going by everyone in Lion’s Arch, human male with shoulder length brown hair and heavy T3 cultural is the way to go.
I’ve run with nothing but Renewed Focus with my AH build and I think it’s just the bee’s knees.
I don’t run a non-AH build because they’re inferior, ’nuff said.
Am I going to need to buy timeslots to run new dungeons when they’re released as well?
Still no capes? 2/10
I guess Jon Peters has been testing his signet build since beta then. Haven’t ever seen him using anything but that. But hey, at least warriors will get more buffs.
Are you sure this isn’t an attempt to save face by someone who’s just not very good at his own class?

lol
Edit: For substance and an explanation for those who don’t know much about warriors, a signet build is hands down the fastest leveling spec in the game. With this spec, you gain precision for every signet you have active. At low levels, this scales to a very high amount and it’s easy to become a crit machine.
By end game, the advantage gained by this build declines significantly as the precision bonus becomes a pittance. What’s more, it hamstrings a warrior’s utility. A signet build is basically for spamming Hundred Blades or the Axe Spin. Naturally, this would cause you to become a burden as you can not keep up with the other classes and would have difficulty getting every hit to land once rooted by your own ability.
Jon Peters runs a signet build in sPvP.

No, it’s really not. I have no problems with playing more complex and unique classes. I actually prefer them. The issue is that engineer only feels like such a headache because it’s not a complete class. It’s complexity comes from the fact that half of our stuff is just plain broken.
How long has Scope not worked? Since release. I remember when Thieves had an issue with their talents and it was hotfixed the same day. I’ll pick the class back up once it’s been given some real attention instead of reassuring coos from the same devs who continue to buff warriors every patch.
Eh, I’m just going to roll a guardian until engineer gets some love. At least then I’ll feel like I’m helping the team instead of getting carried. I got in to engineer for FT and ToolKit shenanigans, but they seem like a gimmick at best with the current state of the class.
Why yes, those are some abilities we have. But like rangers, not everything we have is exactly the best.
I recently restarted and decided to pick my engineer back up. So far it’s been a lot of fun and I’ve loved the versatility while I level up. Especially at low levels, I could practically switch to whatever kit on a whim and have a lot of fun. Turrets died really quickly, but at least they could absorb a hit for me. I managed to avoid using the grenade kit after retrying it and discovering it was still all about 1111111112111111112 for all eternity.
Now that I’m getting close to 80, the idea of having to use the grenade kit permanently is so awful sounding that I’m thinking of dropping engineer altogether for something else. Is there any way at all to use kits besides grenades and still be viable for PvE or WvW?
When I mean I don’t want to use grenade kit I mean that I’m regretting having spent the skill points to learn it. It’s just entirely unfun to me.

Whatever man, I’m going to just chill and watch the train wreck happening. It’s obvious they’re ignoring everything we’re saying.
I guess I got my 60 bucks worth.
Wow. Ok. Now I’m ticked. I was giving Anet the benefit of the doubt.
But now, Agony is vastly superior. That’s not even funny. I’m going to hope that ring is just some weird combo of code that won’t see the light of day.
I really do not understand what Anet is thinking. They ran GW1 for 7 years. Sure, a few of the abilities got better over time, but it was over the course of years. Are they under new management or something?

Here’s a list of all the Ascended items.
WoW, check out this best in slot gear!
Good lord.
TBH, I wasn’t really expecting much in the way of gem store offerings from this event. Mostly because it’s a non-holiday event related to new content, so it’s probably a bit harder to have new and interesting things to add to the store.
OTOH, I expect Wintersday will have a few things I’ll be interested in…
I’m talking in general, not holiday specific. As it is right now, I can get three complete outfits per class off the BLTP and only one can be seen at any point in combat. I’m surprised they haven’t given us more options like the old school Knight’s armor. Maybe it’s in the works, but it’s really hard to get a bead on what Anet is thinking because their communication with us is less than stellar.
(edited by Talloc.6835)
Yes, but the point I’m trying to make is that they’re losing potential money from people like me. I assumed the cash shop would be more about skins and cosmetics, but it’s all random.
From the recent patch notes
“The Consortium Chest has been added to the gem store in the Consumable category for 250 gems each or 10 for 1800 gems. No key is required to open these chests; simply double-click them in your inventory.
Some items in the chest include: shoulder skins, breathing masks, weapon skins, hats, and minis.
All items in the chest are new and have never been available before.
Weapon skins are rare, and the minis are very rare.
All items can be sold on the Trading Post.
The Consortium Chest will only be available for a limited time.”
What’s up with only offering cash shop items with random probabilities? I was holding out that, along with some needed balance, we’d get more real options in the cash store.
As it is right now, I don’t really have any incentive to buy gems because I dislike any lottery system. Why can’t you just add the cosmetic items at a higher price and make them account bound? I know it’s about making money, but Anet is losing money from me by doing something like this.
Yes and if its lets say 100, then the difficulty to reach 100 should be VERY VERY HIGH.
The reason the endgame in gw2 is getting so much criticism is because ITS WAY TOO EASY to get to 80. It should takes months and months and months to reach max level
You’re playing the wrong game. Try Runescape if you like pointless grinds?
