Why can't we sell food to vendors?

What I meant is that although it is food that I have already made (costing me money that I cannot recoup), I’m not yet at the point where I am ready to cross the line of definitely never recouping any money from it, by using it for an achievement. You never know, I might be able to persuade someone to pay…uh…no, you’re right.

I have about 285 chocolate chip cookies, so perhaps a gorging session is in order after all. If you see someone waddling around in Lion’s Arch, looking like a chocolate chip cookie, it’s probably me!

I understand about the achievement, but I’m not at the stage where I’m so in love with achievements that I just want to pour gold into getting them.

I filled two bank tabs with food I can’t sell and can’t even give away to my friends for free. A third bank tab is full of half made food that no longer fits into collectible slots.

I used to love crafting, but since it seems there is no end market for anything I can make (and I do need to make stuff to level, even though I prioritise Discovery all the time), I’ve kind of lost steam now. I am just wasting money by pumping it into something that isn’t the slightest bit useful. With cooking as with any craft, anything that I might actually benefit from making is available on the TP at a tiny fraction of the cost to make it, so why bother?

Being able to sell food to vendors wouldn’t totally eradicate this problem, but at least cooking wouldn’t be the cash-destroyer that it is at the moment.

They said they’re working on it, but it isn’t really a bug, merely something that will add convenience.

It will definitely be awesome when they finally do it.

It only took me 3 or 4 tries. I honestly don’t get how people think this is very hard. Maybe they’ve never played platformers or something. I wonder if people realize that they need to get down on the narrow ledge. (It’s been a while since I did this. I’m pretty sure that’s how it was.) I guess that it could be bugged since I did it. I wouldn’t be terribly surprised.

Not to be rude, but I had a good laugh that someone thought the time to run was when the flag was blowing. I’m genuinely curious about how that conclusion was arrived at.

I arrived at it because it worked and was, in the end, what got me through the puzzle.

I said I STARTED to run when the flag was blowing at – and here’s where you probably didn’t actually read what I wrote – the earliest point you can run. I ran from a place which meant that a) I could see the flag clearly when I started and b) was not running in the danger zone while the wind was actually up. If this had been wrong, I would have been blown at the start of my run and I was not, because I’m not stupid.

Whether this worked for me because of video lag which has been an issue for some people or whatever, it still worked.

Incidentally, your trick of the narrow ledge – didn’t work once. Wind still blows you when you stand there and it doesn’t shave significant time off the run. Guess I’ll have a good laugh at you now, hm? :p

I watched most carefully and ran the minute the flag started to blow.

That’s exactly the WRONG time to run. The flags indicate when the wind is blowing, once they die down you can run to the next section. (Don’t try to do the whole run at once, you need to wait at the middle wall for the wind to rise and die again.)

If that was true, I’d be getting blown over at the beginning of my run and, yeah, I think I’d have noticed that one, thanks! I got blown over at the end. And yes, I knew to wait at the middle wall – as I actually stated in the post that you responded to – but until I ran earlier I couldn’t get there. It was the right time to run.

A sour look at the state of *pre-cap* crafting

Agree with the OP. Other MMOs I’ve played have had enjoyable crafting systems and still managed to encourage a demand for the products without either insane price gouging or the kind of upside down values that we see here with ingredients and finished products.

With GW2, I am beginning to feel as though there is no point in pursuing any of the crafting disciplines, despite how enjoyable the mechanic of actual crafting is with discoveries and the like. All crafting is really doing for me is costing me money, for no apparent gain or purpose, because let’s face it, the experience benefit is not so staggering that you simply cannot get this from another facet of the game.

It’s disheartening and sufficient to put quite a dent in my perception of the fun inherent in playing.

The location for loads of things got changed in this last week. I’m surprised that you’ve missed the whole Buttergate debacle that followed!

Black peppercorns, vanilla beans, chili peppers, thyme, butter, eggs, chocolate, oranges and cinnamon are all drops or gathered from wood or plant nodes now. That isn’t an exhaustive list, just the ones that spring to mind. There are still foods available in bulk but these are few compared to previously.

Another point is that with all sales forced through the TP, I have no expression of pride in my work as a crafter. I can’t make a sales pitch (and no, I wouldn’t spam) or refer people to look at my other lovely goods for sale if they enjoyed the orange coconut cakes.

It’s the MMO equivalent of working in a cubicle, with no recognition, producing goods that you never see sold for a company you never meet but which stings you for a terrible fee nonetheless.

I love the crafting mechanics and would invest a lot of time playing the game to raise crafts and enjoy doing this, were it not for this badly implemented system for trading. Serious crafters are great for game retention figures, but they need to be social doing what they do – and I don’t just mean chatting at the craft stations.

C.O.D mail cant go wrong. what you doing now is giving TOO MUCH chance for people to get scamed, and it happens here more than in any other game i have ever seen in my life.

1) because people DONT want to lose 15% tax, thats higher than EBAYkitten
2) TP Does go down,
3) Item to Item Trade.

THERE WILL ALWAYS be reasons to have a trade, for now its happening ANYWAY whether you like it or not, the only difference is (because you guys at Anet are very stubborn and think you know it all) Its easier here for scammers than any other MMO ever made.

This. Absolutely this. A Net, please pay attention. It’s great that you had a plan to reduce scamming and as a community (aside from the scammers) no doubt we are all grateful that you are attempting to find ways to keep our gold safe and our experience enjoyable, but the lack of P2P trading really is detrimental both socially and functionally.

Add a Cash On Delivery function, then it’s still safe, right? Scam free. Permit swaps of equipment.

Please!

Pay 600 gems for a new bank tab.

I had so much gold, I bought 2 bank tab just because I had so much food and ingredients and still had some money left over for some equipment that I needed because I was badly undergeared.

I already did. FIVE times. Still have a full bank because of cooking, which takes up two full tabs now.

Except, Blighton, you’re not selling them for vendor price if you’re listing them for vendor price +1c. You’re losing money because of the 10% sales tax.

I agree 100% with the OP. As it stands, the TP is almost useless.

dont care, it waste more time hunting for a vendor, and frankly i dont care enough. like i said if somebody else can use an item i got for FREE, by killing a mob or doing something i was going to do anyway, so be it.

im more disgusted with the AH by people putting crazy prices on crap, 3-5G for a dye, come on.

the prices for gear and armor in some cases is just stupid, IMO its just a pathetic attempt to gain riches and hold it over people ingame because your cant accomplish squat IRL, and you need to make up for it in a video game

or

your just so greedy you cant turn it off

You don’t need to try to be insulting. I’m not one of the people trying to min-max the TP to make stupid money. I do not fit the rather jaded view of people that you seem to have. I JUST want to be able to sell a tier 4 crafted item for more than it cost to make it, rather than 1/5th of what it cost to make it. As it stands, I can’t, so I just vendor every single thing my crafters make, because that is more money than I could dream of aspiring to on the TP. An economy that makes this more worthwhile than putting those items into the hands of other players is ridiculous.

No speed buff is necessary, watch the flags to see when wind is blowing, and just run to the next section when they calm down. You can stop at the middle section, wait for the wind to pass again, then do the second half.

I was not unaware of the mechanic when attempting this without buff. I watched most carefully and ran the minute the flag started to blow (thus moving at the earliest point you can move without getting knocked over immediately by the original puff of wind), jumped straight over, had no delays, was on the shortest possible route, and I would always get blown over about 2 seconds before getting to safety at the middle wall. It did not matter what I did.

When I added the speed buff, I still got blown over a couple of times until I figured the best point at which to engage the buff for maximum effect. Then – no problem.

So, I beg to differ. Speed buff might not have been necessary for you, but it is for a substantial number of people, going by these posts.

Edited to add that I’m not stupid. I didn’t say I was running when the wind was blowing but that I STARTED to run when the flag blew. Factor in the position I started from and my reaction time and, guess what, I was moving at the earliest possible safe time right after the wind – which is actually what I said above.

Since food doesn’t sell except at prices several silver underneath what it cost to make it, this would indeed be an interesting way of allowing chefs to benefit from their craft and have fun at the same time.

I died about 20 times doing it today. I had to strip off except for my staff, so I could still cast speed buff, because all my gear was close to breaking. The speed buff was essential to get me to that middle wall and then away to the other side after a small break.

I really feel for anyone that doesn’t have an easily equippable speed buff.

You can’t find soft wood? Try any level 15-40 area..they are everywhere. I have over 100 logs of soft wood in my bank..

Butter is the easiest thing going. I have so much of it after two days, that my collectibles bank stack is maxed and I have another 150 in my bags.

Haven’t found eggs yet, but have found peppercorns, oranges, chocolate, thyme, cinnamon and walnuts. It’s a little more irritating, true, but not that big a deal.

The bigger deal is the loss from booty bags that these food items have displaced. My tailor/leatherworker/huntsman are having a terrible time as a result!

That’s exactly what I said, people will stop putting up items on the TP until it’s profitable. The decrease in supply will cause the TP price of finished cooking goods to increase.

Except it’s a global economy, not a server economy, and so there will always be thousands of people still putting their goods up. Even if 1000 chefs stop putting their food up each week, it would be months before the scenario you mention would stand a chance of taking place.

Long before this, most of us will have stopped crafting altogether. What you describe is NOT a fix.

Difficulty vs. level while doing our personal stories

in Personal Story

Posted by: Tanaquil.9314

Tanaquil.9314

Some of the story steps are hosted in zones that make it extremely challenging at best and impossible at worst to succeed in without deaths that number in double figures. One example: my Ranger’s level 39 quest took her into a 50+ zone. Not to just the other side of the portal. Not to the first waypoint. Not even a tiny bit down the road… but right down the road, over a bridge, onto an island and through level 50 mobs.

That was just to access the quest point, never mind the difficulty of the actual quest.

The invisible hand of economics does not fix the food market and these items cannot even be vendored. I’m not even sure why I should bother putting in the time, game money and effort to level my chef from 300 to 400, when the only thing I can do with the produce is to give it away to my friends. There is absolutely no point listing it on the TP: even at rock bottom price (many silvers lost to me from the production process), matching the bottom sellers, none of this food sells.

As far as I’m concerned and for my needs/purposes, the TP is broken and useless and will remain so as long as it is one economy for all servers. Internal server economy is what is needed. When there are not 10,000 people all offering something at the lowest possible price, then we might get somewhere.

TP needs higher "default price", better messaging.

I’ve noticed that it’s pointless trying to sell anything I craft as a chef (even with useful level 55+ food items), because people are selling things for 11c that COST 2s to make, even if you consider gathered ingredients as free. There’s just no way to compete unless I enjoy throwing money away. I don’t even have the option to vendor those items, so my bank is filling up with all manner of food items. I have to resort to giving them away to friends – can’t charge them, because they could go to the TP and buy these things for 11c, so why would they pay me more than that?

It’s not just that people fail to understand the 10% additional fee on sale completion, it’s that too many people are flinging stuff up on the TP at rock bottom price. Normally the supply and demand unique to each server ends up regulating the prices, but this isn’t happening on a global system. There are always thousands of people offering whatever is needed at a tiny price.

I love crafting but I just don’t see the point as things stand.
