Well, zerging and massing isn’t fun (at least not for me and my friends) and GW2 builds, sadly, all around that. Also the AE nerf will make zergs even stronger. I actually wish they would buff AOE (remove cap or something) and give the possibility for a very good and well played group to take out the random zergs.
Yea.. It’s kinda sad to see that WoW has better PvP than GW2 :/ WvWvW is nice but it got boring so incredible quickly..

Shouldn’t the resources put on the AE-damage balancing rather be put on class reworks? Thieves are still a very unfinished class, warriors very bad in sPvP, some weapon sets are useless or badly designed (sword OH warrior, double pistol thief), so why focusing on something which the majority of the players has no problem with? It just seems silly. Is Anet disconnected that much from the game? Or should I play more to see the huge problem with the AE damage?
I’m not really a fan of the video and its contrived measurements of skill and power. Nor do I agree with the video that it is a sign of good design. You don’t need to have characters/weapons/etc that are out of whack in a risk vs reward sense to make casual players feel like they can compete. You simply use a system which matches them with equally skilled (or as close as you can get) and let them learn to play the game in that way.
The video pretty much makes the case that the high power/low skill abilities are a crutch to make up for the lack of a decent match making system.
Indeed, programming “noob” weapons or “noob” classes is just very bad design. It’s frustrating for the casuals (Because they know that they get only kills because of the weapons) and for pros (because they can die to a much worse player). Also it forces bad players to pick the noob stuff.
The only thing a game needs is an elo system to fix this problem.
GW2 is much much more skill based than WoW, it’s amazing what you can do with class knowledge and well timed dodges.
Also because there is no trinity, the class balance is quite good in 1v1. Sure, it’s not perfect but by far better than in WoW, by a lot actually.
Ele is only really good with a bunker specc. However, if you like being in the middle, being able to tank ~2 people for a long period of time, elementalist is for you! If you master the class, it will be the strongest duel class in the game.
If want to kill people fast, go for mesmer. Mesmer can also have a bunker specc but isn’t as strong (and not nearly as fun) to play as elementalist’s bunker specc.
I stopped playing a long time ago and i’m just waiting for some fixes:
-Zerg > all. This is probably my main problem with WvWvW. Sure, a group of 5 people (Even if extremely well played), shouldn’t be able to win against a even geared and leveled group of 15+. However, atm the group of 5 people is completely useless: They can’t get a keep, they can’t fight (or at least slow) a zerg for long. I just don’t enjoy mindlessly capping keeps with 15 or more people. It’s boring.
-Culling problems: I don’t get how a WvWvW-focused game can be released in such a state. The culling problem is completely gamebreaking. Also it favors thieves, which can achieve perma invisibility.
-Downed state. Something which favors zergs again. Why? You down someone, NO PROBLEM, people just go to him and press “F” and he gets up after two seconds.
-No rewards, no progression, no “fame” and no changes in the world. You can dominate or you can be dominated, nobody cares. You can be the conqueror of everything but still nobody cares. WvWvW is completely meaningless.
-Very repetitive. Why so few important secondary objectives? This makes the game to a “ZERG GET TOWER, GET KEEP, GET TOWER AGAIN, GET CAMP”.
-Frustrating badge-system. This needs a big rework.
-WvWvW not affected by PvP (sPvP)-balance. Why the hell? Isn’t WvWvW PvP? Aren’t confusions and thieves’-burst overpowered in WvWvW too?

The damage of HB isn’t even that high if you see the negatives of it:
-It roots the warrior
-It’s sooo easy to interrupt, sooo easy.
-It has a long kitten channeling time.
Compare the ability to mesmer’s shatter, thief’s backstab or guardian’s Whirling Wrath.
If you see the pros and cons, HB is kitten.
Yea, the entry level of sPvP is so incredible high. The difference between one who just started the game, someone who played a couple of hours of pve and someone who played hours in sPvP is incredible big. Like I said before, an elo system like in lol would fix that.
No… Leave PvE and sPvP strictly separated :/ Add new gamemodes, add an elo rating and work on the balance.
No kittenty dailys please. If you want dailys, go to wow, you have about 2~ hours of daily everyday.
GW2 is a pretty skill based game and it seems you suck (sorry if i’m so direct).
Why the hell do you want to give rewards to sPvP? No thanks. SPvP needs more game modes and an elo system, not rewards.
sPvP isn’t as big as WvWvW because:
-only one game mode
-heavily based on skill and personal performance. Bad players can easily get carried by zerging in wvwvw but not in sPvP.
-no elo rating

Indeed, PvP in GW2 is just so unloved. It has so many issues. I played to rank 28 before getting bored out of my mind. I can play a specc for every class farley well and I also played some tournaments. Speaking of tournaments, I just couldn’t stop asking myself what the kitten this is. Why is there no elo system? Why tournaments? I don’t get the thinking behind this feature. Why did they think that a tournament system would be better than an elo system? What did they try to archive with it? Why did they waste resources on them when sPvP itself is clearly lacking? Another Gabe Antamagelo working here? (Probably too direct but I just love(d?) GW2 and it makes me sad seeing in the state it is in ).
Just some stuff I think need to be fixed:
1. Content. There has to be an elo system and a REAL duel function asap.
2. 45 euros too much today to be an esports-game. There has to be a much much cheaper way to play sPvP. Make a version for sPvP only for 10 bucks? GW2 PvP will never be taken seriously with the high cost of the entry level.
3. Class balance. The balance in sPvP is kinda okay, every class has a strong specc. There are some OP and UP classes, like Warriors seems kinda underpowered and D/D-ele overpowered, the rest of the classes seem to be some sort of okay.
4. Ability designs. Some weaponsets make absolutely no sense as thief and are just incredible badly designed. Some abilities (like death blossom, heartseeker strike or hundred blades) are just bad, cheesy, boring and maybe even overpowered and should be reworked.
5. Missing stats (Knight…).
6. Awful glory system.
7. Heavily unbalanced downed states. Be an engi or warrior and get stomped instantly. Be a thief, mesmer or elementalist and get rezzed.
8. Only conquest, oh god why.
And yes, many many people have quit the PvP in this game and (probaly) the playerbase consist mostly of PvE-players now. You can’t except a part of the game to be a healthy and alive if it’s this bad.
Right now it seems that GW2 is just another PvE-mmo.

I’m a big fan of sword/dagger, so I totally want a flanking strike update. Seriously, it’s so unreliable. Also pistol/whip needs a change. Maybe make the stun instant?
Also I’d like a change to Death Blossom. This skill is so brainless and badly designed. It doesn’t work at all with the Dagger/Dagger kit. Please, just change it. Remove the gapcloser on heartseeker-strike and give it to the reworked death blossom. Also add a short root to it. If you want to make a melee condition specc, you have to introduce and give us a whole new weapon set (Torch MH, Axe OH?).
Pistol/Pistol needs a lot of work. Most of the kit has to be changed. Body Shot is bad, Unload is boring, Headshot is close to unuseable (You have to interrupt unload to use it, same with black powder. ).
Most of the kits have to be reworked tbh. The only good one with a lot of synergy is Sword/Dagger but it has, sadly, the awful flanking strike.

Downed state has it’s problem but the Idea is actually good. It’s here to counter the LOL-burst speccs (Which it does atm).
There are many many builds in the game. Thief has at least 4 strong and viable speccs. Not sure what made you say that. Yes, the current meta heavily favors bunkers and burst speccs but i’m sure it will change.
No idea, I have never played Aion seriously. But I agree. I think it’s very sad to see how everything in GW2 is based around damage I miss “combos” from other MMOs and well timed use of abilities.
EDIT: Nonetheless, the whole package is by far better than what SWTor, Rift or Wow offers.
EDIT2: Tons of abilities =/= hard game. I tried SWTor yesterday again and I realized how easy the game is. I have 4 bars full of abilities and I just got bored. Same rotation every time. Also I missed dodge. Oh god, how much I missed dodge.
GW2 has it’s issues but i’m sure the devs are on it.

You serious? You think that for that people are suddenly starting to play WvWvW with joy? What the hell do WvWvW-players do with magic find?
WvWvW needs more. It needs unlockable, fun abilities. It needs to give much much more gold. Culling has to be fixed. There should be a way to weaken the downed state (Add new Utility spells which automatically kills all downed player X meters around you?).

Arcing Slice should give a short CC on the target. A daze would be great!
Together with a reworked rampage (swiftness, heal, hp increase and condition immunity) and warrior could be very fine.

EDIT: I’d love to carry the skins over to PvE. This already would give a lot of content and fun Also PvP-players would have to invest into transmutation stones.

Warrior is wayy to unflexible. HB is way to easy to dodge. Warriors are too squishy (Endure Pain has such a high cooldown..). Their condition removals are kitten.
Also those are paid tournaments? I see more skill in 5v5 hotjoin O_o
EDIT: With inflexible I mean that they don’t have any ways to surprise enemies. The only thing warriors bring is frontal damage. Hammer warriors are strong but are wayy to easy to counter with blinds.
The damage they bring isn’t even so high. I rather have a triple meditation guardian with greatsword than a GS-warior.

Dude, i just tried to spam HS against squishies. Against a squishy warrior with under 50% HP I made 3x crits for about 4.8k. Against a squishy ranger at 100% HP I did 2x crits(!!) for about 1.9k damage.
So please. No idea how the hell you get those numbers. Also all of those were with the Assassin’s Signet.
EDIT: Against a necro with a toughness-amulet: 1100, 2.5k (crit), 1.2k. I didn’t had ONE guy who died to my heartseeker-spam in the whole game.
Full squishy warrior 100% HP: 3k, 2.8k, 1.4k, 2.6k
EDIT2: First person who died to my HS spam. He didn’t dodge once. He died again, he again hasn’t dodged once.
Want more numbers? Seriously, heartseeker strike isn’t overpowered at all. Squishy thief actaully needs a buff in serious PvP.

EDIT: I can’t even reliable kill the NPCS in heart of the mists with heartseeker-spam. Yea, it kills noobs and newbies. But if you start to balance around that the whole games goes down.

Heartseeker is just a very very strong finisher. However, while “heartseeking”, they are very fragile and vulnerable (No dodge, no stealth, no evade). They can easily get dazed and get oneshotted by the team. And quishy thieves die extremely easy (No good defensive cooldowns, 12k hp, no toughness).
In 1v1 heartseeker is very strong, if you don’t dodge or use defensive cooldowns when you’re under 50% HP, you will die. However, heartseeker is incredible easy to dodge or to evade. Also a dodge usually evades two heartseeker if you time it right (right before the heartseeker lands).

Underwater combat is spamy and confusing. It’s maybe some sort of fun in PvE but underwater combat has to be extremely reworked to be fun in PvP, so why even bother? There are much bigger issues atm.
Yea, but to do that they need a spell which makes them immune to conditions for X seconds.
Warrior should just be the class with self-stability. Warriors atm just get stunned, focused and nuked down without any way to react

Yea, it did add some skill to the gameplay but it was annoying and stupid to play. Also it made rezz-sigils completely overpowered.
EDIT: Also there is no way to rate a team atm, so there are no pros in the game. Playing 6 hours a day makes nobody a pro.

Yea, UW is very unfun. As soon as someone jumps into the water, I just leave.
I had to check so many spells because I had no idea what they do. They all were from UW. Zzzz. I am pretty disappointed
Yea, it’s so broken, crazy. 100% uptime on protection is just completely overpowered, especially with 100% regeneration and strong heals.

Wow isn’t good. Wow is just so completely based on addiction, progression, “carrot on a stick” etc. I can’t believe people call that game good: It has kittenty combat, kittenty class design (every class close being the same), game offers NO challenges at all, graphics are incredible outdated and leveling is generic and repetitive as hell.
And the endgame… I mean, I just can’t believe someone is paying 13 euro a months to do 15? dailys every day, farm reputation and the same dungeon/raid over and over just for VIRTUAL stats. And not for a few days or maybe 2-3 weeks. No. A couple of months. It’s so crazy.
.. And WoW players say the endgame is good. Lmao. Arenanet could patch tomorrow and nerf all exotics to Fine. To get Masterwork-gear, you need to farm reputation: Do 15 dailys every day for the next 2 weeks to get your full masterwork-gear! Rare? Farm 80x dungeons of your choice. Exotic? Farm 150x dungeons in explorer mode of your choice to get full exotic gear.

D/D-Ele is currently unbeatable, at least good ones
As thief with Sword/Dagger i’m close to even with them and it comes down to rng (which is working against me sadly). If I can remove regeneration and protection quickly with my flanking strike or steal his 20+ sec regeneration, I can win. If I get might and vigor, I clearly lost.
I agree that most humans (both gender) are just fat nowdays. However, I don’t think that having a perfect hourglass figure and huge d-cup boobies are possible. I mean, I don’t think that girls are “normally” like my thief → http://i.imgur.com/oHiqc.png
Oh yes, how I would love 2h axes.. Something with low mobility, high defensive stuff (A block or a very powerful parry), and high damage. Something very warrior like.
Why? Healing was incredible boring in WoW. Yes, it was a good feeling but the system behind it was beyond awful, especially in PvE.
Also there are so many games with the trinity, why don’t play one of those? GW2 is extremely fine without healers, especially PvP (Well, after they nerf D/D-bunker eles).

Because, for me at least, it increases the content in an artificial way. You don’t go raids or dungeons for fun with friends, you do them for gear. If you took out the geargrind in WoW, a lot of people would instantly quit. Wow (or vertical progression) is (mostly) based on addiction, from lvl 1 to maxlevel to max gear. In Wow you login and you instnatly have something to do: Dailys, 25x the same dungeons to replace the blue with tokens or 150x warzones to get the full set. Sure, it’s motivation to play but is it a good motivation? Shouldn’t games be here for fun and relaxing? I doubt that vertical progression is anywhere near fun.
EDIT: “The problem with horizontal progression is that when you feel your character is complete, you have no reason to continue, whereas with vertical progression, you’re (eventually) forced to continue.”
This is exactly whats wrong with vertical progression. Like I said, games should be here to entertain and relax and not to be a second life.
Also as long as WoW is here, you have the king of vertical progression, so why not play that?

Yea, they are. They are unkillable in a 1v1 and can escape a 1v2 pretty easily or tank them a long time.
I’m also playing thief and warrior and thief is soo much stronger than warrior atm. Yes, in a fair 1v1 a good warrior can actually win against a thief. However, in teamfights thieves completely dominate over warriors. Warriors get completely wrecked by conditions, stuns and dazes.
