Thieves are a pretty easy catch for bunker speccs (Guard and eles) and mesmers. Also a good warrior can win against thieves.
When the Team are incredible unbalanced I can understand that. I had some matches yesterday in which all ranks 20+ (inclusive me) were on one side. The other team just had players with a rank under 5 >_>
I rage quitted too a couple of times, mostly when i’m playing a bad hotjoin class and i’m going against a team with stacked mesmers and thieves.
After playing thief today without abusing CnD -> Steal -> Backstab I think that backstab specc would be very fine if Mug wouldn’t exist. A “damage” ability with a long cooldown just doesn’t fit in GW2. I think a great fix would be to remove mug and just buffCnD back to his unnerfed state. Also steal’s cooldown should be reduced. Steal feels kinda “meh” atm, unless used to oneshot a squishy.

So I gonna add all EU players!
I most of the time know which clone is the right one. However, shatter-mesmer deal such a burst damage that you don’t have enough seconds to distinguish the player from the clones. A shatter-mesmer can burst 60% of your HP while you’re rooted :/ Also with an instant stealth ability and a 900 range teleport with stunbreaker it’s impossible to chatch one of those. I started playing shatter-mesmer to understand how they work and how to counter them. My conclusion? You don’t.
EDIT: Also, unlike thieves, mesmer has amazing group utility: Void Field (Best condition remover in the game and it also removes boons from allies), 10 sec quickness for the group and portals.
Mesmer is probably #1 Class for hotjoin and tPvP. I mean, what do you do as thief if you’re against a heavy condition team? You’re kittened. What do you do as mesmer? You switch to null field and they are kittened, easy as that.
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
You need to get hit once when you’re under 25% to let endure pain be activated. This is terrible in PvP sadly
Zzzz, why did you underline the US players and not the EU players? I feel violated.
Yea, PvP in GW2 is probably the fastest dying PvP in any mmo. It’s sad because the gameplay and combat is by far the best out of any mmo.
Yea, that’s the main problem with thieves atm :/ In a 1v1 or 2v2 it’s maybe doable but in a big zerg it’s impossible to make out the thief. I hope there is a fix incoming before they nerf the rest of the thief to the ground.
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
I think the main problem of thieves is the culling in PvP. Yes, you tried to fix it in sPvP. However, thieves only get visible after 1-2 seconds after they did the damage to you. You have to change this. Not sure if you can but that’s the main problem of the class probably. If you fix that, you can start balancing thieves. A half-fix (in case the engine can’t without the 1-2 seconds of rendering) would be to make the names instantly appear. Or something else, maybe like a white flash?
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
I only play other classes and with all of them a HB-warrior is easy to deal with >->
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Indeed, you are atm forced to play lolinstagib D/D (Which still works flawlessly btw), condition D/D (3333333 all day) or condition P/D. (I personally don’t like S/D at all, flanking strike is sooo unreliable and buggy, not sure if it’s only me).
The thief class needs a big rework, some weaponsets are just completely kitten or just awful to play (Seriously, condition dagger/dagger, who came up with that O_o ?).
I love this game but my mmo-class, thieves, rather disappoint me
EDIT: Though I totally understand the nerfs they are just wrong. Thieves dominate sPvP pretty heavily and are very frustrating to deal with. But like I said, you (probably) wont fix the problem with damage nerfs, the thief class has tons of fundamental flaws, bad designs (bad synergy, badly designed sets, useless abilities etc).
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
They should actually buff hundred blades. It’s kitten without quickness. The damage is pretty low for the time the warrior has to stand still :/
Usually HB doesn’t even kill a squishy with it’s 3.5 second rooted channel, HB isn’t a hard hitting ability (Like backstab, mind wrack or killshot). The only thing which makes HB some sort of strong is quickness.
I mean, it’s not only that you have to stand in melee range, HB is also so easy to interrupt.
So, to land a strong HB you need:
1.Quickness
2. A stun or root
3. The enemy has no interrupt and no stunbreaker ready (or is just bad).
Im times in which mesmer can shatter 80% of your lifebar and thieves which can oneshot you HB is probably too weak >→
I wish I could but you’re from USA zzz!
Yea, sustain-speccs have probably to go. Can a good bunker-ele even die in a 1v1?
What’s exactly the problem? You could even make an elo-system for random free tournaments. (elo-hell incoming in GW2 :> ).
I mean, it was a huge success in wow (at least from a pvp-view) and it’s amazing in any moba. So what exactly speaks against an elo-system? Why isn’t it already here?
EDIT: What the hell are those tournaments anyway? I don’t exactly get what they are here for.
Yea, warrior would be overpowered if there weren’t thief and mesmers probably.
.. That’s why most strong condition-removals are for the group. Drop them successive and you have like 20 seconds of condition removal.
Good vid! Though I don’t understand why it is posted in sPvP. There is a huge difference between WvWvW and sPvP because glascannons are much tankier in sPvP and they don’t deal as much damage as in WvWvW. Just compare your stats in full berserker outside of sPvP and inside, you will miss about 30% critical damage but gain about 2600? HP.
Indeed, EU and US-servers are splitted sadly. We can chat but we can’t play together
Btw, I met an amazing warrior. She was rank 40+, used greatsword and sword/shield. First time I actually lost a fight against a warrior wtih my mesmer. Not sure if she was lucky or I just kittened up, that’s why I’d love to do a few duels against that warrior. Sadly I didn’t add her to my flist >_>
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Maybe if there weren’t thief and mesmers warrs would be op. However, warrs get completely dominated (like all other classes) by those two.
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Just get null field or corrupt boons and it’s a dead elementalist (usually).
What exactly would change with different gamemodes? Classes who dominate in 1v1 and teamfights will dominate on every other gamemode too.
I can play Dps-warrior, condition(pistol) or backstab-thief, shatter-mesmer and necro, condition-thief being my strongest class probably.
EDIT: Not sure when I’m playing, i’m not playing much with the horrible state of sPvP though.
EDIT2: Usually like 22:00 EST to 03:00 EST but like I said, i’m not playing much. Would probably be easier to add me in skype if someone really wants to duel a class I mentioned above: Donvito293
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Hi!
You know, I don’t need much to have fun in PvP. CS was fun for me for close to 4 years. I played it daily and loved it. Same with Dota2 and League of Legends.
However, sPvP is so frustrating atm with the awful balance. Thief and mesmer roll over anything atm. Usually 50% of the population of a battleground is made up by mesmer and thief, sometimes you fight against a team with 4 thiefs and 3 mesmers, which is completely absurd.
And no, my “main” I use is actually a thief and my alt is a mesmer. Guess why. I know how to kill those classes and I know what they can. However, there is no way to kill a good shatter-mesmer in a 1v1. In teamfights they are amazing too, they bring so much disorientation and burst damage to the fight. With my alt mesmer I can usually 80% -> 0% any squishy with a shatter-combo and phantasm, all this while having tons of defensive abilities (3 stunbreaker, 2 stealth and a 900 range-teleport). In teamfights I drop quickness for my group which gives us a 100% win chance for the fight. In case the enemy has strong condition-speccs, I just put null field in the bar, which is probably the strongest boon/condition-remover in the game.
Thief isn’t nearly as bad as a shatter-mesmer.
I mean, as soon as I log on my necro I have fun in the beginning (A tanky power-specc). However, as soon as a thief or mesmer with skill appears, i’m kittened. Same with my ranger, warrior (which was btw the first class I played) and engi (Second I’ve played).
I mean, am I the only one who thinks that mesmer are broken overpowered and take the fun out of the game (sPvP and WvWvW)? Just make one, get a shatter-specc and gogogo.
Warrior better regen? What do you mean? The healing Signet? The HoT from adrenalin? Or am I missing a trait? Those are both kitten. Warrior don’t have sustain (at least not offensive warriors), unless i’m missing something.
Because warrior are bad? As warrior you can get outplayed so hard by a thief or a mesmer. Also you lose against most (all?) bunker-speccs. In teamfights you just get controlled and bursted down. Rifle warriors are kinda okay though.
EDIT: Warrior get completely destroyed by teleports, blinds (Hammer) and evasions, which thief and mesmers have tons of those.

People saying that LoL is casual friendly are wrong. Top players will own you very hard in lane.
The only reason League of Legends is played so much is because it’s incredible balanced for such a complex game (GW2 isn’t at all), it’s very very fun, it has an amazing Elo-system (this removes a lot of noob-stomping), a good progression system (GW2 has an awful progression system with the RNG skins) and because the champion (and item-pool) is so large, every match is different (While GW2 is always the same).
I’m sure I can trash any LoL top player even if you give me a random champion.
Why? I play DOTA2 and HoN, AKA Moba who require skills not afk farming lane.
There are plenty of people who came from DOTA2 and HoN and get trashed over and over by good lol-players. Though I have to say the most skill in LoL comes from the meta, knowing champion strength, optimal valuations, map awareness and teamwork and not from micro.
i guess you dont know what casual friendly mean…
obviously if top players own you, then game is not casual friendly
Makes sense right?
I should have quoted the guy >_> Casual-friendly means something like “Easy to hop in and easy to have fun, even for players who have no clue”.
LoL makes this possible because it has a strong elo-system, so people wont be playing against very good people (something which GW2 doesn’t have). Getting stomped by a better player isn’t casual friendly at all: You just want to play 1-2 easy games and a much much better player comes and owns you incredible hard (This is where the dumb thief-whine comes from probably).
In Lol this just doesn’t happen. First you have to level up, which also gives you a hidden elo -> usually balanced matches after a few levels. If you have no clue and are bad, you get queued against people who are bad too.

What the hell is this kitten, ofc it is PvP. Why do you even care? What do you want to achieve with this post?
Indeed, I made a similar threat like this in the WvWvW forum but yea, it sees that GW2 is another PvE-MMO. PvP is overall in such a sorry state atm, it hurts
You guys really need to learn some patience. As someone who has been playing MMORPG’s for over a decade you need to wait until February minimum to make any real judgements on half of the things you are making knee-jerk reactions too.
I know some of this stuff is not to your liking now, but give constructive threads and avoid whining as much as possible. Do your best to help them build the game better. Games generally do improve and get better. This one started out pretty dang good and you wouldn’t be upset at all if they hadn’t done such a good job to start. Being upset requires that you care
.
I have patience but the Anet’s focus clearly isn’t PvP, at all. It’s PvE. You see this with the balance changes, you see this with the nonexistent WvWvW-updates. This game follows exactly SWTor’s route in terms of PvP: Add some content every few months, without fixing the core problems, without fixing balancing issues and they think this will keep the PvP-players happy.
I saw this with WoW (with each addon) and I saw this with SWTor. Anet follows exactly the same route as Bioware: “Soon” “We have something on its way”, while the core problems remain unfixed.
Yes, with the difference that the PvE-MMO market is saturated, while the PvP-MMO market (non fps-style) is completely empty.
Not quite, EVE is probably the 4th or 5th largest MMORPG (in the West), but yes in terms of a traditional fanatasy type MMORPG that doesn’t put people off with things like full looting, there is a big gap.
True actually. I played Eve for some time. The combat got boring after a while though
Yes, with the difference that the PvE-MMO market is saturated, while the PvP-MMO market (non fps-style) is completely empty. Anet could get most PvP-players from WoW, Rift and SWTor but they rather insist to focus on PvE.
And yes, we have each other to entertain ourselves. However, this is only possible in a fun environment with a lot of variety. A prime example here is lol’s summoner’s rift. Amazing designed, tons of secondary objectives, a very big map, bushes. No match is the same.
(The discussions we have here is btw stupid anyway, we both don’t have any numbers and we are just speculating.)
PvE pays the bills I guess. The WvW playders are a fraction of the people who do PvE. Priority goes to whatever makes the most money. Standard business model.
Though I wish they will just add some new siege equipment or at least make some new maps. not the hardest of content to implement. But then even redirecting resources to appease us will mean fewer PvE people will stay. Priority is where the money is. It makes perfect sense. Not one that I like, but it makes sense.
Guess why more people play WvWvW than PvE… Got it? Because WvWvW is in a pretty horrible state. League of Legends is the most played game in the world and it’s a purely aPvP-game, so don’t tell me there aren’t enough PvP-players out there :/
Pistol/Dagger is amazingly strong
Mesmer underpowered, lmao xD
Yea, Warhammer was bad, bugged, unfinished and hilariously unbalanced for a PvP game. Also it was still WoW burning crusade, the golden age of WoW-PvP. Aion was a bad korean grinder and Rift is doing good.
I don’t like FPS anymore, not sure why.
Also the post sounded maybe too negative. I still like GW2 and I still play it. However, the fun I have with it lowers each day, mostly because sPvP and WvWvW (especially WvWvW, sPvP is still kinda fun because PvP in GW2 is fun (Only if you play bunker, thief or mesmer though)).
What I want to say is that WvWvW IS the iceberg in my opinion and not sPvP.
The main problem of WvVvW is that it isn’t really fun: Invisible armies, zergs > all, “PvE”-capping in some matches, WvWvW unaffected by PvP-balances (Ever played against a confusion-mesmer? They can stack up easily 8-12 confusions on a whole group which deal about 3.4k damage per skill used. Also thieves. Seriously, why the hell isn’t WvWvW affected by sPvP-balance? Isn’t wvwvw pvp? zzz), close to no rewards at all, an extremely frustrating badge-system, close to no gold rewarded (on some days you even lose gold in WvWvW), no sense of progression in any kind and not a viable way to level anymore (You need to be constantly capping to get close to the amount of EP you gain from PvE. You can’t get the keep? Well, sucks to be you. Defending is fine though, if you deal enough damage to “cap” the event, which is a big if as lowlvl. Also you are probably taking away a spot for a geared lvl 80).
Also no way to get the legendary. Why can only cursed shore farmes and TP-players get a legendary? Are those the most legendary players in Tyria? ( If someone here says that earning gold = a way to get the legendary I swear to god !_!_! )
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Sorry, but why? WvWvW isn’t PvP in your eyes or what? I don’t get it. This makes like absolutely no sense whatsoever. WvWvW IS PvP, the classes which are overpowered in sPvP are also be overpowered in WvWvW.
Seriously, change this ASAP A-net.
Hi!
This is least what i’m feeling. Two content patches, all focused heavily on PvE-content (Or only pve content if you don’t count the 3 minigames in halloween as “real” PvP).
WvWvW is still meaningless. Also it’s unaffected by most PvP-balance changes because WvWvW is seen as “PvE-content” (or something). Why? Isn’t wvwvw PvP too?
I mean, I like gw2 but it seems that as a longterm game this will be another PvE-mmo, like WoW, SWTor, Tera or Rift. Why? Do we really need another PvE-MMO?
I know that it’s less than 3 months since GW2 was released but i’m just worried that GW2 is another MMO focused heavily on PvE. I have patience, it’s just the focus that worries me. The last patches clearly showed what A-net wants GW2 to be: A PvE-MMO. The already very small PvP-changes were also “meh”: Mesmer, Thieves and bunker-speccs are still dominating heavily in sPvP, Warrior (or any other class actually, Warrior was just the first class I played in sPvP) are close to unusable against teams with stacked OP-classes (There are some speccs which are working though but not if the other team is heavily dominating the game).
I already know the answer but I hope this makes Anet change their priorities a bit
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Mesmer are the most overpowered class in the game and are really ruining the fun. With my mesmer I can crit squishies while downed for 6k, how kittening broken is that? Mind Wrack can go up to 8k and this all while having three stunbreaker, a stealth, 1200 range teleport, very high ranged damage and group quickness.
But yea, people are crying about thieves..
Just go something like this (I didn’t really care what to skill, I just wnated to play a broken shatter-mesmer). Start with greatsword → Phantasm → spam other skills → switch to sword/pistol → spam phantasm → check that you have 3 illusions out → press 2, wait, press 2 again, press 3 → use mind wrack → target dead. Also don’t forget to use moa for free win in 1v1, but I would only use it against enemies you know are strong.
I had no clue what i’m doing but I still won all 1v1.
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Uhm, in case someone wants to duel such a lame thief, i’m here! Just add me ingame and give a short whisper (I’m going soon to bed though).
I also would like to play against warriors who think they can beat this specc because with my Warrior I have huge problems against those >_> Pretty frustrating getting killed by 33333.
Yes, WvWvW is still completely meaningless.
Dude, you are basing your nerf-opinion only on videos? You haven’t even fought such a thief? You can’t be serious. Seriously, how the hell can you start talking about balance without even having fought one? Who the hell do you think you are? You only made an “okay” necromancer vid. I’m not trying to sound rude but I honestly don’t know how to answer in a polite way.
Also the vid has a few bots in it. There was a vid of a necro killing 10+ bots so I guess nerf necro then.
Not really, 1v6 rofl ;D
You can win 1v3 against terrible players but you are really exaggerating. Why are you so butthurt against Pistol/Dagger-thieves? Necro is our #1 enemy (guardian and bunker-ele the next, they both have so many condition removals.)
Pistol/Dagger has tons of counters and the fix to culling will greatly reduce the strength of it, so no need for a nerf here. If you think that only the combo of range + stealth is overpowered, why aren’t you whining about mesmers? I just think that you got killed a couple of times by such a thief. You have to remember that Power-necromancer is kinda bad compared to other classes in this game and that you play far from perfect (at least from what I saw in the vid).
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Well, I think that the Initiative-system is okay but the synergy on skills are broken or some weaponsets are just awful designed. For example Pistol/Pistol: Zero synergy between skills. What do you? Spam unload 24/7. Bodyshot? Bad. Headshot? How do you use it? You have to interrupt Unload for that and also it’s incredible expensive. Black Powder? 6!!!!!!!!!!! initiative for a blind.
So what do you do? -> Unload 24/7, because there is no other way to deal damage and the utility is kitten.
Dagger/Dagger is also bad but not incredible bad designed. You should use CnD -> Backstab or Dancing Dagger if the target is above 50% HP and finish it if the target is under 50%. However, heartseeker itself is such an overpowered ability for GW2: A finisher + gapcloser is just too much. What I would like to see is a removal of Death Blossom (or a complete rework) and a spell with a gap closer, evade and a short root. Dagger/Dagger would then be a strong weaponset with synergy and A-net could proceed to remove the gapcloser on heartseeker-strike and nerf the burst with steal -> CnD -> Backstab. Thieves would use all abilities and step back from Heartseeker-spam and steal -> CnD -> Backstab.
Sword/Pistol is kinda the same as Pistol/Pistol, except that it has a build-in headshot on Pistolwhip, so headshot is rarely used unless you really can’t reach your target (In that cases you are probably close to death anyway). Black Powder is okay but the range of the smoke is incredible small. Also it’s sooooooo expensive and pistolwhip has a build-in stun, so unless 2+ melees are directly standing on top of you, you wont use Black Powder. Why blind if you can deal 7k damage and have a 1 second stun for 1 less initiative?
So what do you do? -> Pistolwhip 24/7.
An awful designed weaponset is condition-dagger/dagger: Heartseeker is kitten because of no crit/crit-damage, dancing dagger is incredible expensive for the short slow it gives (but it has its uses) and CnD is just dumb (Why stealth if you can just evade all attacks and deal tons of damage for 1 initiative less?)
A good designed weaponset is Sword/Dagger: You use all skills for certain situations, you don’t spam one ability over and over. Sad that I don’t like it, Flanking Strike feels too clunky for me
What I want to say is that the Initiative-system is good. However, some thieves abilities are completely overpowered. Thieves should react and use abilities for certain situations and now have all situations covered by only one ability. Why a 0.5 second daze if I can just pistolwhip and get free 4-8k damage? Why slow target or use gap closers if I can just spam heartseeker with free 4-8k damage? Why go stealth if you can just evade all abilities, deals TONS OF DAMAGE for 1 initiative less?
EDIT: Holy hell is this a long post
TLDR: Initiative rules, skill-design sucks.
(edited by Teabaker.9524)
Makes sense right?
