Which ports do I need to open on my router or firewall for Guild Wars 2?
My 2c; I definitely think that an attack that is blocked, evaded, or blind-missed by a thief in stealth should pull them out of stealth. Two reasons;
1. As an attacker, if your big attack fails for whatever reason, you should have a larger reaction than “lol so what”. That’s not to say that having your attack dodged doesn’t hurt because you are wasting stealth time, but that’s far less of a punishment than what other classes eat.
2. Conversely, as a defender, it doesn’t really feel all that good to dodge a big attack but not feel its benefits. Successfully blocking or dodging a stealth attack should make you think “great, he’s failed his attack, let’s wreck him”. I don’t know much about gameplay because frankly I’m kind of a scrub, but as far as how it feels to fight a thief, it seems like it’d be rewarding to have that opportunity.
that’s right. and now i claim that everybody who is complaining about this was attacked by a thief who stayed longer than 3(4)sec in stealth, because u only have ca. 2 chances to hit your foe with #1 in stealth AND standing behind your foe (3-4sec stealth). and that was intended by anet. fact.
SR gives a very long stealth time and i think that might be ONE (the one?) problem. after 4 sec of SR, a thief only should get another 4 sec of stealth. so everything is like ANet has intended.
stacking stealth is not OP, why? you see it and if a thief uses CnD and the Blinding Powder, he will have 6-8 sec of stealth, ok, but also a skill on 40sec cd.
WHY PEOPLE don’t understand that ANet wanted a profession like the thief with the special #&%$/98 of using a skill more then one time without a cool down but initiative pool?!? it’s not like the other games all of you’ve played before. there are differences. not the old boring stuff. i don’t complain about 3 bars of abilities of the necro or the 4 of the elementalist. i really want more weapons skills on the thief but “no” there aren’t more AND I ACCEPT THAT THE OTHER PROFESSIONS HAVE THEIR ADVANTAGES. why u can’t see this fact.
why exist spamming? (in my opinion) because there are skills on many weapons sets which won’t be used:
on D/D #3 (power)
on x/P #4 (power)
on P/x #2 (power)
on P/P ?….yes #2 AND #4 and then there is the decision #3 or #5? yes, thieves like to chosse the better one to kill people: #3. so they use only #1 and #3 on P/P – great -.-
if we have skills we can choose instead thieves will spam less. easy and simple.
and when i read “soft”…..thief class is broken? “soft” cooldowns would be like spreading nutella spread bread with nutella….

repeating the same arguments from other threads doesn’t bring us forwards.
thief’s stealth will stay -> new stealth trait XIII and revealed buffed -> DA XII.
stealth attacks will stay as there are. And everybody wants a game which is on the way they want it because there is a possibility to force anet change something -> forum.
What happens if the player of a soccer team have the possibility to complain like we have it outside guild wars? the coach will make all their wishes true, sure…….NOT.

The biggest problem with Evasive Shot or whatever it’s called (shortbow 3) is that it can be used when the thief is immobilized. Um, what? This should not be possible at all.
this problem isn’t a thief problem with SB#3. there are evasive skills of other professions, which should also work on this way. BUT immobilize only disables moving and not activating skills! Daze does the opposite. Stun both.
And like everybody knows anet differs between “evade on pushing v” and “evade on skill”. (otherwise , for example thief acrobatics trait II gives might every time you activate SB#3, S/D#3, D/D#3.)
in my opinion anet can fix “dodging with skills while immobilized”, but not only thief takes advantage of this issue. Only “evade skill spammer”
(and that only can be thieves:P).
Drastic changes = An ending sequence of improvements of abilities, which will terminate after every skill was “improved”. Some people maybe recognize a mutuality between “improved” and “nerfed”.
anet hates no profession. this is the truth, although not everybody wants to know it =)
an other truth is that anet loves warriors. anet made the warrior in the exact image of God. warriors can do everything.
third truth: cause of the previous truth they are unbeatable because they have no weaknesses.

the 8% nerf of HS is compensate by the 10% overall dmg nerf. so there is no change overall. sry, i had to say that. i complain sure, but there is no need for an change of HS active effect then

for me, i t doesn’t matter how much HS heals you as long as i can still kill HS-warriors =)

Instead reducing initiative regeneration, simply increase the cost of skills by 66%.
Chill now prevents spamming and doesn’t hurt Thief that much.
CnD 6 ini → 10 ini.
spear #5 7 ini → ‘12’ ini. LOL
that chill effect hits harder than confusion can ever do
harder than daze AND Stun
AND it has a much longer duration AND can be stacked in duration

Just an idea. While under the effect of chill, a thief uses 1 initiative more then normal when using skills.
great idea, in my opinion. This would remember the fact i described in my post above:
1 more initiative cost doesn’t touch the “global initiative cooldown” – it only affects the abilities you’ll use and that’s the same as it already does on the other professions AND IS FAIR.

Why should chill also affect the thief’s cooldown-mechanic?
Because all other professions have the full disadvantage of the chill effect: Movement speed decreased by 66% and skill cooldown increased by 66%.
It’s fair that every profession has to fight against chilled in the same way.
Why, this proposal would not cause better balance between the professions? And why, the thief will have a considerable disadvantage by this change?
If (for example) a necromancer gets chilled. His unused skills are not on CD and are not affected by chilled until he’ll activate them. If he use a skill, it will go on CD and only this skill CD will be increased during the duration of chilled. ALL OTHER SKILLS (except of maybe 2) will be available on both weapon sets.
If a thief gets chilled and only has half of his initiative pool (6 or 7 initiative) then ALL SKILLS (#2..#5) will go on CD after using the next skill and initiative regeneration will be “frozen” (1 ini per 3 sec). That means the thief can’t use any weapon skill (#2…#5) of BOTH weapon sets after using the “same amount of weapons skills” like the necromancer.
Now please have a look at my example:
You can recognize that chilled would increase the cooldown despite of the fact that a thief doesn’t use any weapon skill and the initiative pool is not full!
Chilled would affect the thief’s cooldown mechanic without doing anything in MOST (91-95%, depending on max initiative) of the cases. Sure, you can clean it like everybody else can do, but you’ll see the big advantage IF your condition clean abilities are on CD or you were inflicted with many conditions covering chilled AND no “passive” counterplay (not activating #2…#5) is possible.
And yes, i know that answering on this thread will always revive this thread :P (sry @ all thieves) but i want you to know what maybe no one has considered. =)

u can get your 66% chill effect on thief’s #1-#5 but then i want to have 2 different initiative pools for my two weapon sets!
and what i also want to say: blablabla nerf here and there. can u pls shut up and play the game. everybody wants to nerf another class. why nerf and not balance? because the chill-mechanic is a basic game mechanic and not a simple ability which u can balance. thats means that anet will not change something that is a “law of nature”. if anet would think about every little thing like this, you can be sure that there will be no new balance and feature update the next 6 months.

the world is very very terrible. It is only one of the coming 5 GM of the ranger. so enjoy the time until the 15. april and don’t cry about ONE ADDITIONAL trait. everybody cries. the thieves, the guards, the engineers… and u was able to complain/improve/propose at the ranger CDI …
anet will redesign the ranger, so stay calm and enjoy the new traits.
everybody thinks that GM traits have to be OP (because they are GM) and that’s the reason why everybody cries about the new GM traits.
i am very surprised and i am looking forward to the feature patch =) but 5% of critical hit’s damage as heal? SA III gives me more and this is an adept trait. but anyway. i don’t want to complain^^ yeah new traits =)

i am also a thief player and i think that this solution is fair and directly answers to those people complaining about staying in stealth after blocking etc. pp.
BUT i know that your proposal will not satisfy everybody, because there are still people who can’t deal with stealth and cry about a fix implemented class mechanic from anet.

btw. 2 ini are much. achieving the intended target 1 ini for stealth attacks is enough adding that the use of a stealth attack costs 1 ini (not only due to block, immunity, blind).

listen. gw2 provides a lot of possibilities improving your defense or offense. if u want u can only chose traits for your defense or your offense. depending on your choice you run a bunker build or glass canon , for example. what does this mean? you can reach 500hp/sec or higher, or simply do tones of damage.
and @chris: when i read your initial post, i had to think of bart simpson and his phrases at the beginning of the simpson’s intro. i had to smile…to laugh. u can add SR on your calculations but everybody knows that SR has 5 pulses and 340hp/s over 5sec (30SA) AND 60sec CD.
that’s like you would sale a mobile phone tariff for 2 cents per second, but this offer is only true on saturdays.
think about it – every class can get their “2 cents per second tariff on saturdays”

from guardian stolen ability “mace head crack” – guardian activated protection after heart seeker (no crit) because i think he had to be under 50% hp when i look at the damage and your following frontstab also didn’t hit critical. you use hidden killer?
750 is very low – so maybe u was inflicted with weakness and no condition removal while stealthing up?

i am playing thief and i have one question:
Will you still complain about stealth if BS is nerfed and only does “frontstab”-damage?
i think u won’t. u can’t. there is no other skill that can hurt heavily. ok we nerf PW down to 50% of its damage.
Will u still be frustrated if a thief suddenly appears behind you and does ‘normal’ damage?
my fair proposal is: cast time BS 1/2 (from 1/4) with the normal animation (u can identify BS’s animation undoubtedly AND wait a moment…….

Example:
CnD (with 4sec stealth) – thief behind foe – cast BS + thief becomes visible for 1/2 sec
1. thief hits – thief gets revealed – everything ok
2. thief misses/blablabla/blablabla – thief becomes invisible for the last 1,5 sec + no revealed – everything ok
And for those people who will complain “only 1/2 sec BS cast time” – 3/4 is also possible. Anet has the choice. but the cast time should be not he point of discussion in this thread.
this proposal is only for BS and u can be sure that the other sneak attacks don’t need this.

Stealth should break on attack.
If they miss/you evade/block etc, they should still reveal.
For the advantages and sheer damage increase you get from a backstab, and how easy it is to enter stealth, if you fluff your attack you should be punished for it. Not just be able to try again and again until it connects.
It’s not stealth at all. It’s unbreakable invisibility. If i’ve predicted when you’re going to backstab me and I evade, then i should have the advantage, where in reality you just get to try again and again until you connect. My evades/defensive skills will run out, but backstabs and stealth never do.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaand let the battle begin….
sry but this argument doesn’t hit the topic of the thread. If u revealed after your BS or other attack ist “failed” will NOT prevent the player from using his stealth spamming build/abilities.
sry. disagree with “green healing skill button”. you should be able to look on the debuff bar 4 pixel above.
and pls remember: if u fight against s.o. with specced condition they will be able to cover your whole health orb in a few seconds – some kind of information that is redundant displaying on your life orb.
proof or example: thief with D#3 or/and venoms or/and P/x.

for me playing thief becomes too confusing:
1. What am I allowed to do? What not?
2. Should I go into stealth? – maybe there is somebody who doesn’t like this.
3. Dodging 3 times or should I play fair and only dodge every 4 seconds?
4. If I dodge too much my enemy will complain about me not using stealth – if i use too much stealth my enemy will also complain about my play style.
5. Maybe i play fair and rely on my block and invulnerable abilities.
PLEASE, PLEASE someone will have to write a manual for thieves including rules that say what are the combat-no-go’s for thieves.
It’s really annoying playing a class which no one wants to play against and which everyone counteract heavily outside the game. Nerfs are OK but sometimes i only wonder what i am reading.

and the easiest way to balance PW is adjusting to the new (latest) patches: higher ini reg => nerf PW’s dmg => pre dps = post dps. Done. But he had to close the “complaining” thread^^maaaaaan
Since anet splitted S/D #3 i am thinking: Split = Split. since anet said they split PW i am thinking: Split = Nerf.
PW is now perfect. OP maybe, because it does more dog than other abilities. But if anet want to split PW there will or must be a nerf, except they split into 1ini + 4 ini. But then he second swords strikes are OP. => 100% nerf^^
Other possibilities => also nerf^^
And i love the guys who are always saying “higher initiative costs, higher” ironic

Topic Title: Fractal-Weapon Chest!
Feature or Goal.:
Less frustration about the fact that not all classes can use all weapon types.
Proposal Overview
Embed a fractal weapon chest as reward in high level fractals. chance to get such a chest similar to the chance to get an ascended armor chest.
Goal of Proposal
There are people like me playing only one class and and getting fractal weapon skins they can’t use – that is normal, but, take me for example: i have got 9 (!!!) fractal weapon skins and not one skin for a thief (EDIT: i only have one character which I play) . getting 9 unusable fractal weapon skins had a chance of ~1-3% (with a chance of 100% (!!!) getting a fractal weapon skin)
Proposal Functionality
Implement the new chest – account bound – working like ascended weapon chest or ascended armor chest.
Associated Risks
The chance to get a fractal weapon chests should be lower than the chance getting a fractal weapon skin now. so the fractal weapon will stay a high end reward – the fractal weapon skin is already more rare then a legendary weapon.

boa ey, test it and then u see that sword and dagger AA do the same dmg. AND very important^^ I’ve forgotten to say: ON SINGLE TARGET ;P
Reducing the Blind frequency would just make it feel random and impotent, sometimes working, sometimes not. Nobody likes skills like that.
that’s it. thieves don’t need skills and traits they can’t rely on. why? they are squishy of medium armor and very low base hp.
btw there are many skills which are OP in pve: deathblossom-spam, the new warrior heal. anet can nerd BP in pve simple and very easy – just give the npcs a little bit more AI. not like the BORG but similar

u have no knowledge of thief mechanics. backstabs can hit every 4.5 sec if u have an insane timing – average u hit every 5 sec and more, much more. a 5sec cd is nothing “new” and finally nonsense.
A 5-second cool-down is entirely new because it would prevent the Thief from spamming a 1-slot stealth attack skill until it hits in spite of the opponent employing counter-play.
oh yes, i’ve forgotten your first “what we can do better”-point… u are right
nevertheless i remind u on an old patch – there the behavior of sneak attack was fixed/patched/buffed whatever u want to describe it – the fact is anet changed sneak attack : the thief gets revealed after hitting the first time his foe (or something else) and the thief doesn’t get revealed if he misses.
back to us now: anet will not change their opinion and neither they will not revoke the “sneak attack” patch and they won’t do this in relation to backstab or tactical strike.
stay outside of blackpowder circle and attack with range weapon or (yes!!) with melee weapon. yes that’s right – melee weapon! why? because if the thief standing in BP can attack u with sword or dagger, u can attack him too, because u have the same range with your melee weapon. if u can’t hit him (standing outside the circle) the thief can’t hit u too. “bums-aus-ende” as we german say
how to stay outside the BP circle? don’t touch the “edge” of the circle.
BP is annoying? yes, but there are always skills which need a special counter play.
BP nerf? maybe decrease duration and reduce initiative costs BUT this will change nothing – there will be people still complaining about BP. pulse every 2 sec? possible, but the first blind pulse have to after 1 sec (now) or immediately after cast otherwise this defense skill is useless.
simply the best counter play is stay away from the 120 range units BP circle and attack from outside or keep cool and wait a little moment what u will also do if a mesmer attack with sword #2 or an elementalist with d/d earth #5. pull the thief outside the circle or type ./laugh @ – there are enough possible ways

lol?! first all complain about WA is OP and does too much damage and now u want that u can make damage with range weapon after u get told how too “avoid” WA ?!

take the advices u can read in the previous posts und wait 3,5 secs or kill the thief with melee weapons – thieves often have less than 14k hp.

I love reading most of the threads (including troll threads) because they are very interesting, but it is really annoying to read every day that someone can’t play the “terminator” in this game because the other classes have traits, skills, mechanics they don’t like.
Anet created this game and not the community changes this game – anet does it. Anet only collect feedback – that’s all.

a trap used for …..defense? launch foes away…. sounds bad.. BUT if u imagine how u can use it:
1. laying trap , step forward/around your current enemy launching incoming foes behind your start position away – with a CD of max 45 sec – nice.
2. cliffside – ok^^
i also want to mention that the trap will be blockable – ok one foe will evade and trigger but other foes will be launched away, in my opinion..
@warrior: who can remember which nekro elite skill from gw1 warrior will get?^^ in addition with a second (normal) skill from gw1
Functionality change to stealth for all professions*
- If a player attacks while in stealth, but “misses” an attack due to being out of range, blinded, blocked, evaded, obstructed, or if they struck an invulnerable target, that player gains the revealed debuff for 4 seconds.
Tactic: open 100 threads to achieve that your request will be implemented. There is already a thread which concerns about revealed on blocks. not about “blinded, evaded, or obstructed” but read the following post.
@ blind: u don’t hit something – no revealed.
@ evade: u don’t hit something – no revealed.
@ obstructed: u don’t have the permission to hit – no revealed. other words: it’s nice to know that the enemy is obstructed but anet also can leave it away and doesn’t display the “obstructed” message.
@ invurnerable: u hit target – no revealed. Why?!? You are invulnerable – who cares about a thief/mesmer who tries to hit you?!? I will agree that invulnerable gives revealed if invulnerable gets an visual debuff for its duration.
… Some people are really getting tired writing and repeat their response hundred times.

It’s amazing how people think this would be a good change that would balance out the thief. It will do nothing less than destroy any dagger based builds, mainly D/D which already has so many counters.
With this change, every time the thief manages to stealth you just have to do 1 thing: pop aegis or a blind and you can just sit back and wait while the thief either reveals himself or waits out the duration of the stealth and does no damage at all, while any of your AoE/cleave can still hurt him significantly. Counterplay to the thief will be so laughably easy because a good player can punish a revealed thief really fast. Basically you’ll be locking the thief out of its burst, and without it they might as well not exist.
Suggesting this idea or even agreeing to it just shows how many people have absolutely no clue about thief mechanics or have the insight to see how destructive these proposed changes would be to the thief class.
Something that could use some changes is the easy access on stealth on D/P. If anything needs more counters then that’s the weaponset to look at.
i am very happy to read this – just because i don’t have to write how crazy “blocking gives revealed” is! Pop Aegis or use a block skill (all last around 2 sec) and stand on one position – maybe write an emote during the next 3-4 seconds – and wait. the only advantage i’ll see all non stealth classes now can anticipate the next action of the thief/mesmer with full attention ….but wait…..they have aegis/block…..they can go brainafk -.-’

Why: I really don’t know why (probably somewhere in the text…), but I think the guy thinks it would be a good redesign and would balance things…
he should create his own game, because anet will not change anything he wrote and it seems he has a lot of fun creating classes (no sarcastic). in the end both sides are happy
u all don’t understand: anet won’t change anything on S/D #3 next time. They fixed #3 long time ago – #3 was finally playable. after splitting they increase the amount of initiative up to 5 and then reduce boon steal down to 1. they won’t decrease the damage in addition to the next crit-dmg change, because they never turn on two wheels simultaneously when they are balancing sth. Do it on your wish-list for the 24th or complain about cloak and dagger – i’ve heard Dagger #5 can blind up to 5 people “every second”

this video should not proof that S/D does low or high damage – it should only show how u can play against S/D (and D/D). thief has no stability and with a bit of intuition you’ll beat them all.
