Not sure if the problem is on my end or Arena Net’s. Any feedback would be great.

Any dynamic events, for instance the giant that comes and attacks the charr town, you need people to help take that thing down.

There are others also, but it just seems like most places are empty, this is an MMO afterall and it sucks that these areas are now empty.

I have been wondering this myself. I would like to come back to the game but as I remember trying to play around 4 months ago, I could never do Dynamic Events due to there not being enough people playing.

I have actually made posts addressing this issue a LONG time ago after about 2 months the game was released, but nothing ever came of it.

Now I see the issue has possibly become a very large issue that will push away people like myself from coming back to play.

Heck, even new people who want to try out the game, they will think Dynamic Events suck because there is no one there to help them.

Whats the solution, anyone? Please do not say “find a good guild”….

sPvP not fun at all

Tharjax.9068

Tried it for the 1st time tonight and I got the basics down of capturing points, but man alive this was a horrible experience.

All it basically was is going to a point, do a tiny bit of fighting that lasts about 5-7 seconds then get zerged to death. Rinse and repeat and you have a match of sPvP.

You can’t even tell whats going on because everything is going so fast, your health drops to zero in no time, you can’t even count how many players are actually around the point until it’s to late.

Meh, for a 1st time experience PvP in this game is horrible and completely lacking in any kind of appeal for a new person, even WoW’s battlegrounds wasn’t this bad, you could at least tell what was going on there.

Once and forever gone content.....

Tharjax.9068

They do NOT need to make this content vanish. I all but quit the game when they removed the F&F content because I enjoyed it more than anything else they put out so far. It was fun getting to see new stories unfold and the new dungeon was great fun. The majority of the group I played with has moved on to other games after that content was taken away. I personally think it could be easy for Anet to keep the old content by simply adding historians to a zone like one of the major cities or the EOTN zone where you can go to get hotm rewards and making that a place we could use to access the elapsed living world content as “new histories” of Tyria much the same way as the historians with the books worked in the first game.

I think this is a fantastic idea! The living world can progressively change but if you want to see how it changed or the reason why it changed, you can go to this historian who will teleport you to a zone and you can play through past history of the living world and see how things unfolded.

This IMO would add a great amount of content as well as being just a plain awesome idea for the game and give it life!

Once and forever gone content.....

Tharjax.9068

I agree with the OP. It really sucks that I am missing out on this really cool content. To me this should also be part of stuff I can explore/do when I reach 80. Sort of like end game stuff to do.

I think it’s a shame that a lot of new players will not get to see these living stories in action. Why put all the time and effort in making some great content that you will only take away after a certain period of time?

I am sure it’s probably complicated but still the idea of a living and changing world seems corky when a lot of people miss out on the content and don’t even know what happend.

I guess I am more just disappointed because I don’t like missing out on content especially if their is a good story behind it, and it almost feels like ANets attitude towards the situation is “Well if you missed out, too bad, hopefully you catch the next piece of living story, but if you miss that also, well not really sure what to tell ya”.

Well I will add this one since I haven’t seen it yet.

When you meet General Almora (Vigil) for the 1st time she says something similar to this line here:

Jean Rasczak: “I need a corporal. You’re it, until you’re dead or I find someone better.”

General Almora basically says “I’m the leader of the Vigil until I’m dead or they find someone better.”
That line is from StarshipTroopers. Nice job ANet!

Guild Wars 2 not doing well, True or False?

People are spread between this:

Fractals
Dungeons
WvW
World Bosses
Living Story maps.
Farming Spots

This shows an aged but stable population. You can track the growth and amount of online members on guilds if you want.

It does show an aged population, not sure how that syncs with certain groups who keep screaming “This game is new, give it time!!”. A stable population? Not so much.

From the examples listed we can see almost the entire population centered around endgame activities. What’s wrong with that? Well, GW2 was never set up to be an endgame type of MMO. It was set up and marketed as a Journey type MMO. Almost all of the content on offer in GW2 is Journey, with 90% of all worthwhile content found in the leveling areas. So you have a part of the playerbase hitting 80 and wondering where all the content is. Well, it’s in all the stuff you just passed by, especially if you decided to level by crafting, but there is no reason to go back because everything that you want to deck out your new 80 is in the limited endgame, be that exotics or cosmetics.

Why does this make a difference in GW2 since all other mmo’s seem to take this path? Because all the other mmo’s are focused on endgame and that’s where all their content is. A new player stepping into this world will be sorely pressed to find company to level up with in some of the beautifully designed content that is available. In other mmo’s there is reason to forgive this, because you know that waiting at the end is the best content. But here, it’s not. What you see is what you get, there’s nothing waiting at the end, just farming.

I quoted your reply because I believe you have touched on something that I really believe is an issue.

ANet did exactly what you said, they were not going to have an “end game” it’s going to be the whole journey, the whole carrot will be given at day 1.

But here is the problem just like you said, I’m a new player and wanting to journey through this great game, but alas I have no one to really journey with. There is no cool gear to be collected around my level or something desirable to make higher levels come back to these empty zones.

For me if I knew that when I hit 80 there was going to be a whole slew of cool things to explore with a bunch of other people, I would be really excited to get to 80.

Right now I am taking my time (which I like) but after talking to and reading posts about nothing to do at 80, is kind of disheartening.

I will still enjoy my time and am still hoping for the best. But I do hope that ANet realizes that there is a need for players to log on after they hit 80 to do things together.

@ Vayne Thank you for your good insight in your post!

Shortage of Necros?

Has ANet acknowledged any of these necro issues? Are they aware of these flaws and are working on something to fix it?

Outside of the new DS 5 skill coming, pretty much no. They have brushed them aside, in lieu of just ‘hoping the meta changes’. As if teams will ever start doing dumb things, like stopping to target a Necro first since he is such an easy focus target.

And they don’t seem too concerned about balancing other parts of the game like WvW, where outside of zergs, mobility owns everything, even more than sPVP, due to objectives aren’t fought merely over tiny fixed circles that strong area defenders can sit in and win by merely getting the other guy to back off.

Yes I can see where Wells would be horrible since it’s a stationary AOE spell which requires a mob or player to be in its range to damage. It’s almost as if there are are PvE specs and spells and also PvP specs and spells.

I know from playing a little bit of WoW that some trees were just best used as a PvP tree and not PvE and vice versa.

Shortage of Necros?

in Necromancer

Tharjax.9068

The problem with boon removal, is that many other classes can do it as well, (sword mesmer), and removal vs flipping really isn’t a big difference. There are no debuffs that REALLY help a ton on a boss (save vulnerability in a heavy dps group). Flipping a BUFF to a DEBUFF is really no better than just removing it.

Also our condition flips have long cooldowns in places where mobs either A. Don’t use boons, B. Use boons so frequently we can’t keep up (grawl dredge).

I am in agreement with mesmer/warrior/guardian. Outside of those three there is no REASON to take anyone else. That doesn’t mean a run is going to be horrid with two necros, but it isn’t going to be faster. A bad warrior is still way worse in a group than an excellent necro.

All pug groups assume a base level of ability, and in that environment, assuming all things are equal, you will have more success just not taking necros or rangers. Eles offer a very nice stacking heal, as do guardians, that helps groups, but they are also not very popular because their staff is more utility and less damage.

Back to the original question… I see more necros in WvW now, as a result of the last massive confusion nerf, as wells are still a very powerful zerg tactic, in conjunction with WOR, and LOW. I would suspect that wells will get nerfed in that environment, and we will be back to the rare and occasional necro in WvW.

That has less to do with the class being underpowered, and more to do with the lack of a high and rewarding skill cap. Thief is so popular because it is easy to own people with little skill (though you will get owned frequently as well), and at the highest level of person ability, you are nearly unstoppable. Necro on the other hand has a hard time early on, and at the highest levels of ability, still loses in situations other mobile and fluid classes will not.

Has ANet acknowledged any of these necro issues? Are they aware of these flaws and are working on something to fix it?

Guild Wars 2 not doing well, True or False?

I’m not sure why everyone suggests an expansion pack. There is tons to do now as it is. I’m very new to GW2…never played GW at all before. But I have to say….I’ve never been so bored with a game that offers so much to do. I think they really need to readjust some things.

I could list a million issues as to why I’ve only been playing for a few months but am utterly bored with this game. The chances that staff/developers read this information is at best minimal. I’m beginning to feel as if I wasted $60.00 on purchasing this game. If GW2 continues as it has, I won’t be purchasing anything else developed by ArenaNet. In essence, I’ve paid real money to not want to play a game, and that’s just silly.

Can you be specific on what your issues are? For me there seems plenty to do in the game.

The biggest issue for me is zones being empty and not being able to find groups for dungeons.

Even though I doubt this is possible, but it would be sweet if ANet could offer an option to put a bunch of people in the same zone, much like an overflow server but it does the opposite.

Instead it puts people around the same level in a zone together so it helps populates empty zones.

Oooh look another one of these threads… who really cares, whatever anyone says in answer to your question is merely guessing. The only people who really know the answer to your question are the bean counters back at HQ and can you really imagine them coming here to help allay your curiosity.
What is the point of your question, why does it matter really…. the only thing you need to worry about is whether your having fun or not.

Your reply offers nothing to my post. Why did you come and post here besides the fact that you can?

I am asking a sincere question in regards to a blog/news article that I read that also involved interview questions with Colin Johanson.

I was simply trying to see other peoples perspective on the subject as someone else might know something different.

I never said that this game was dieing in my post, I was simply inquiring about an expansion in the game and if it is feasible with the business model of free to play.

So please stop posting here with your banter if you have nothing productive to say in regards to the original topic. Because this is not just “Oh another one of those threads”.

It is exactly “another one of those threads”… you are asking for opinions on a subject no one except those back at HQ can actually answer.
Your thread is about “Is GW2 doing ok, true or false?”… not enquiring about an expansion so please stop back peddling.

Every MMO since the dawn of time has a plethora of these “its dieing, its doing excellent, is it doing good or bad blah blah blah”… when all you have to do is simply ask yourself Do I enjoy the game, is it worth my time, if an expansion is coming then does is merit me spending real cash on it.. if you answered yes to the questions then all is good and the game is doing well for you.
If however you answer No then you need to think carefully on how to spend your money..

Now please tell me how other players opinions help you decide these answers.. or maybe your just someone that likes to be led by others opinions and walk of the cliff when its deemed a great thing to do by someone else.

As for your new question “Is it feasible for a F2P business model to offer expansions” how else do you think the game will expand.. small content patches are great stocking fillers but they are merely that.. fillers. They also allow ANET or other game studios to test out new mechanics, new ideas etc. on a live platform and see how the playerbase reacts to it… then when the time is right an expansion will be announced in order to keep the playerbase interested, to draw old players back and promote a new array of players to the game.

My question to you is – why do you think a F2P business model should make any difference when it comes to developing and releasing an expansion… did you ever play GW1? or any other MMO that is or that now offers F2P options cos I am pretty sure they all have expansions at one time or another as do P2P games… not sure why you even asked tbh.

Player opinion plays a great part in whether a game is doing well or not, just as much as the metrics that the devs receive from game tools.

Agreed.. but asking others to answer a question such as “is X game dieing true or false?” when such answers will only be based on pure conjecture in order to formulate their own opinions is silly at best but as I have said.. every MMO has this or similar question asked over and over and over.

If NCSOFT popped on here and said.. yes OP its true the game is loosing concurrent logins each day at the moment and currently we have no plan for an expansion to be released in the near future… does that suddenly mean you cant enjoy the game anymore.. NO so why ask the question in the first place, and when players provide an answer/opinion what difference does that make to your own view on the game…. but then to attempt to throw insults back at people who provide the OP with an opinion on his/her thread… well that right their tells me the OP has failed to understand why he/she actually started the thread for in the first place.

You absolutely fail to see what I am writing on here, and are too stubborn to see past your own ignorance.

Again I’m through with you because obviously other individuals knew what I meant when I made this thread, you are the only one who didn’t.

So farewell I will not respond to any more of your banter.

No actually if you read my original post my thread was in regards to some interview questions with Colin Johanson.

In regards to that interview I thought I would ask on here to see if there has been any dev response to this if someone else may have brought up the subject since the devs are active in this community.

If you read my post you would see that I wasn’t saying the game is dieing at all. You are putting words into my mouth.

I was simply putting across the table that according to the interview maybe the game itself is not collecting enough money due to no monthly subscription to the game.

I was also stating that I wouldn’t mind paying a small subscription to this game because I really like this game.

And Yes it does matter to me what is happening to this game, because if there is no player base then its not worth playing to me.

So please stop being a d-wad and coming onto my thread AGAIN with nothing constructive to put forth, thanks!

Tharjax.9068

They mentioned an expansion but not because GW2 was doing well, but because they said it wasn’t doing well enough and wanted to spike the sales. The problem isn’t all the developers tho some of us have noticed that they took a massive amount of money from the first sales of GW2 and sent that money elsewhere instead of improving this title, and most of the content that’s come out is basically automatic mode considering the small amounts they have been and how quickly people have been able to complete them including the extremely casual players like myself who rush thru nothing quickly.

It’s one thing to try to control problems, it’s entirely another to mislead your players and keep people from being rewarded in game (which is basically what this boils down to) people play games to get rewards, that’s been a thing since the beginning. If you cut that off from happening people are just naturally not going to waste our time with it.

Also, there’s a misconception here. this game isn’t new at all, it’s been almost a year and the list of bugs keeps growing not shrinking which will also lead to smaller population. Smaller population = smaller profits.

So with a new expansion you think they will add a better reward system? I am nowhere near level 80 yet, but by the looks of things there are a lot of different armor sets you can try and get.

Is this not good enough to keep people busy with the game? So in short you are saying Anet game WAS successful in some departments but in the longevity department they dropped the ball?

I myself love GW2 and think it’s a fantastic game. I am hoping for many years of enjoyment to come.

So I was browsing the internet and came across a guys blog who linked a discussion about Colin stating there is no plans for a GW2 expansion.

To make a long story short, he basically was saying based upon what Colin was saying, that GW2 is doing ok, but not well enough (bringing in enough money) to warrant an expansion.

Granted the game is still so very new, but I just wanted to gather some others opinion about the game.

I myself REALLY hope GW2 is doing great because I think ArenaNet has made a really awesome game and wish them the best of success, and even if that means they need to inquire a small monthly fee to generate them some money I would be willing to pay it.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

I would also hope that somewhere in-game they put the combo information. I would like to have that accessible, even if i have to open some sort of screen that helps me out with how the combo system works.

All in all I don’t have huge complaints about this game. I actually REALLY like this game! This is something that I just noticed and thought I would post about.

So please don’t think that I am supportive of a Anet bashing session, just more of “hey help the game be more accessible to new players and not confusing”.

To add to the current example of someone joining this game:

when you join a new game, you do NOT read old patchnotes to see what each button does.
You read the bloody tooltip!
That’s what it’s there for.

This is exactly it. I am new to the game, I would expect the tool tips to define exactly what it does. Why on earth would I go and read through pages of patch notes to see which one of my abilities does what it says it does?

Better Skill Descriprions please.

There are a lot of different options in this game as far as skills go and different combos. As a new player it would be VERY frustrating to come into a game and have such very vague skill descriptions.

Part of the fun of building a character is to theory craft. You look at your skills, see what they do and see how you can make a build out of it. I find it very hard to be able to do this because Arena Net has not made a very descriptive UI for the skills.

At least make an option to where we can turn on or off descriptive skills. Why in the world would you be so vague in this department where it is so important to know what everything EXACTLY does?

I have been using the Flamthrower kit for the past some odd levels, thinking that the skill “Airblast” does burning damage. Well I was wrong, because after making a post stating that Airblast isn’t working correctly as it is not adding burning damage to my enemies, someone tells me “oh it doesn’t do that, it only extends burning damage”.

Why in the heck wouldn’t you say that then on the description?

Anyway I really like this game, but I have run into more questions regarding what skills and conditions actually do what.

I really hope you plan on fixing this in the future ArenaNet, especially for people who have never played your games. It is quite frustrating and can be a major turn off.

Is Airblast bugged?

Maybe I am missing something but to me it seems the descriptions in this game are very vague. Nowhere in the Airblast description does it say “Extends Burning for 2 seconds”

It says “Burning 2 sec (# Damage)” How is someone new suppose to automatically know what it actually means?

And that can also mean that I could be interpreting more things differently then they actually mean.

ArenaNet should offer an option that either turns on and off descriptive skills that say what each skill actually does. I for one cannot stand vagueness especially when you need to theory craft.

When I use this skill it never stacks burning like it says it should. Anyone else experiencing this?

Awesome thanks for the replies, I have been trying a few things and having some success with it.

Another question though, is the flamethrower mainly a good multi mob weapon? And the pistols good for dealing single target damage?

So I shouldn’t be using a pistol/shield? Do i keep the attributes of my shield when i switch to flamethrower?

Whats the pistol/shield combo useful for if not leveling? Thank you!!

I have a level 11 Engineer right now and am using a pistol/shield along with the FT kit. For some reason I am having big issues of killing packs of mobs that are lvl 10-11. I almost always die and end up having to retreat.

I see other players around my level that can blow right through stuff. Am I doing something wrong? Or does the Engineer get strong at a certain level?

Thanks for any advice and help!

Ok so let me get this straight before I do it lol…I delete all my characters. I am then allowed to move my account to a new server (not as guesting) and create a new one there?

Thank you!

I delete my characters? I want to change to a new server because of a specific guild I want to join there, but I don’t want to pay 20 bucks to do so.

I would start a new character but I can’t even do that. If I delete all my characters will the game allow me to start on a new server then?

Thanks for the help.

Hey thanks for the reply Red! Ya I understand that sometimes people cuss, myself included. But I have been on teamspeaks/vent servers where I hear stuff that I wouldn’t want to repeat.

You can probably use your imagination on what I am talking about

Anyway, ya go ahead and tell me more about your guild!

I have been away from GW2 for about 8 months. I only have a level 62 Guardian and a couple of low level alts.

I am interested in finding a friendly “clean” guild who have rules and don’t allow the filthy talk.

I am 31 and will conduct myself in a respectful manner. I am a good team player and like to help out if I can.

I would like a guild that is mostly PvE based, WvW is fine also, but I am more of a PvE guy (I play DOTA2 for PvP).

So if you think your guild is a right fit for me, please send me a PM. I am also willing to transfer servers.

Thanks for reading and hope to talk to someone soon!
