Not sure really where to start? I tried to do a dungeon but no one is around anymore. Where is everyone at? Is my server low population?
I was hoping to get back into the game and start leveling again (at 61) and do some dungeons but I don’t really see anyone on?
Has something changed or something I need to know about? Has there been a lot of game changing changes?
Where is everyone at?
Guesting is a planned feature that will allow you to jump to other servers pve zones without transferring. It hasn’t been talked about much so I expect it won’t be in place until early or late this year.
Knowing Anet might read this, do please give us an estimate on this, rough or not, the community loves to hear from you.
An underflow server would work better IMHO. We wouldn’t have to guess which server to go to that has people in it, instead the system says “hi, I have 40 people in this zone, would you like to join in the fun”.
It would also say that in a robotic voice.
What option kills your FPS the most? I would like to know since I drop almost 20 fps from one of the settings…
I Agree it would be nice to see an alert when guild members and friends log into th e game.
What is guesting?
Bumping this due to another “low population” thread I have seen.
If my white colors seem to be a bit to bright how do I tone them down? Some of the reflections off of light sources seem hard to look at because of the brightness.
My red colors seem a little dark, which setting can fix this? I have deep maple colored armor and it almost looks black.
So here is my new settings and I’m loving it!
Finally got it to work….Whew!
I cannot get this to work for some reason. I download the SweetFX for DSFix.zip then extract it to my programs GW2 folder and replace the sweetfx_settings file with one of the files from the pastebins.
When I alt-tab back into the game i see no difference, what am I doing wrong?
Well what I am getting at is if my home server in a select zone has no one in it, then allow me the option to transfer to a different server of some sort (it can be another world server or an “underflow” server) where the zone is flourishing with people.
I don’t like that I cannot do group events or DE’s because select zones are empty. Not only that but I want to be able to play with people not by myself. I guarantee I am not the only person who is seeing a issue with a lot of the mid range leveling zones being empty.
That’s why I believe ANet needs to make some sort of server that players can transfer to when select zones are empty.
It would work based upon a given number of players in a zone, lets say 5 people. If there is less than 5 people in a zone you then get an option to transfer to an “Underflow” server which has a lot more then 5 players in it.
I feel the last 15 levels It has been very desolate in the zones I am playing in. I believe this could help not only myself but lots of other players out there who would like to play with others when the zones are empty.
What say you ANet?
I actually agree with the OP. I made a thread a while back about the two 40-50 zones being desolate.
Now that I am 56 I am experiencing the same thing. Very desolate and “alone” feel to these zones.
Don’t get me wrong because i really, REALLY like this game, but something needs to be done.
IMO ANet should increase server size and start merging servers so that we can get populated zones and have people to play with. It just sucks having to do all these hearts and DE’s by yourself, I want to see the zones active with players, i mean hell even seeing 10 players throughout my gaming session would be nice.
I made a post in the suggestions forum regarding something similar to what your complaint is.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Make-class-abilities-more-unique-identifiable
I think this would mainly help in dungeons along with making the game feel more polished as a whole.
For instance, right now when I am running dungeons (which i love) but one of my only suggestions is having more unique class specific abilities. During the dungeon you can hardly tell who is doing what, and what others are actually doing to help the group.
Example of this is during fights you really can’t tell if I am doing enough to help the group or if it’s someone else, all you see is boons, going off, spells being cast and trying to keep yourself alive. Rarely can I figure out, or see what anyone else is contributing with their specific build, other than we survived the fight and we are continuing to progress through the dungeon.
What would honestly be nice is to see how players builds are helping the group. Is the thief doing a good job with his CC abilities? How is the guardian doing with his support, what about the engineer who is also playing a support build doing?
If the great minds that made this game can just think about a way to differentiate each of the classes so we can say “yep that ranger is using some really good CC” or “wow that necro is pulling off some really good heals with his abilities”. I think it would help the players really like their profession a bit more as well as the group seeing the results of a good player instead of a mish-mash of people casting tons of random spells.
What are other peoples thoughts and opinions?
Midnight Excidium on Darkhaven is looking to create a 20 man active/social guild. I want to keep it small to help and create camaraderie between the players.
Right now a lot of us are PvE focused. If you think you are going to be pretty active then let me know and we can get you in.
Happy gaming!
Just out of curiosity, would ANet ever let us know how healthy the servers are? What the population is like compared to the first week of release as far as how many active players logged in the last 3 days?
If they can’t give us the info, is there a reason to be secretive about it?
@ Transparently
Ahh ok that makes sense. See I am a bit frustrated because the last 2 days I have gone to two different level 40-50 zones and both of them had very little players in them.
Topic says it all, why didn’t they do this? Wouldn’t it allow for people to meetup and congregate better if we new the right server to choose for our time zones?
Discuss.
I am really want to create a small guild of about 20 ACTIVE players. I really believe in quality > quantity.
I want to keep the guild small for more guild interaction, and to create a good atmosphere to play in.
The guild would be PvX, I don’t like to limit what the guild likes to do at any given time. Right now I have a 10 man Vent server.
The key 2 rules of the guild are:
-Respect other guild members
-Act like an adult
If you are interested please contact me in game, my character name is “Vaylo Holydawn”.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you!
It would be really helpful if ANet can label each server as to what time zone it is.
Basically it would enable all the people in the different time zones to migrate to a specific server where they can find more people who play during their hours.
It would also help Guilds recruit the proper people. Say I have a 10 man guild and 5 of those are EST and 5 are on PST. Well it would be really hard to setup guild events because of the time difference.
I just think it would be nice to find a bunch of people who play PST or whichever time zone an individual is in.
Can we have some guild notifications put in? It would be nice to see if a guild member signs off and on maybe even see when they were last on?
@Edge
MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online, I didn’t buy an MMO so I can see 1 or 2 people here and there.
I like this game a lot and I don’t expect people to “flock” to the zone of my picking. I actually expect there should be people already in the zone for me to play with, not me having to chase down players in other zones.
If a zone is empty there is something wrong, maybe the zones quests are to boring, maybe the zone itself is ugly? Who knows it can be a multitude of reasons. But I still expect to go to any zone in this game and see people playing there.
Also there is only 2 level 40-50 zones and like 1 45-50. Why wouldn’t there be a good amount of people in this zone, especially if I play on a “Full” server.
(edited by Tharjax.9068)
@Edge
But regardless of the “reasons” behind why, the fact still remains that the zone is empty so it makes the whole zone not even worth trying to level in.
Ya I am kind of disappointed because like Sam said, there isn’t enough people to play these DE’s….
Ran from Fields of Ruin to the Blazeridge Steppes and didn’t come across 1 person. This kind of has me worried because it makes the world feel completely dead. I have no reason to even want to come here to level from 40-50 because nobody is around.
Anyway share your thoughts please.
So in other words it’s not the games fault for lack of people not wanting to group together? Or does the game encourage solo play outside of dungeons?
I rarely see people grouped in this game, why is that? Do gamers this day in age just want to be left alone to do there own thing? I myself have a heck of a time finding people to play with.
Discuss.
Hi Nyte, I just made a post regarding a guild like this. I myself am an Adult gamer, married with kids so I can relate to the type of atmosphere you guys are wanting to have.
I myself am PST, I want to create a small guild of around 30 people to keep things more personal and friendly. I am only level 33 and have been taking my time and really enjoying this game.
If you are interested let me know, I am on the server Darkhaven, my character name is Vaylo Holydawn.
If you have any other questions that I might answer you can post them here!
Happy hunting!
Looking to form a guild of around 30 people. Want to keep it small to create friendships and more guild interaction and make it more personal. I was hoping to get around 10 LvL 10-15 and 10 LvL 30-40 and 10 level 50-60.
I have a 10 man Ventrilo right now, If it needs to be upgraded in the future then that is something easy to fix.
I was hoping to get a group of people together that WANTS to do quests with someone, that WANTS to do dungeon runs with their guild mates. Also planned Guild Events is something that would happen also.
If anyone is looking to help establish and set the concrete for a guild like this let me know. We currently only have 3 players since the guild is brand new.
You can contact me on the Darkhaven server, my character name is: Vaylo Holydawn
The game is 5 weeks out why are not the all servers full? Why are they not making new servers? Ohhhh……… I know the game peaked and its all down hill from here!
Because they have added servers, just because every server isn’t full doesn’t mean squat. Even when I played WoW there was never a time when each server was full, so move along with your jargen.
Did you play at release? All servers were full and had hideous server queue’s servers were filling as fast as they could make them. I don’t see that happening here!
Yes I played at release, and I distinctly remember choosing Frostwolf as my first server and guess what it was a Medium sized server and there were still low pop servers available.
The game is 5 weeks out why are not all servers full?
Because that literally has never happened during any MMORPG release. Ever.
Oh wait, I can name a recent MMORPG release where all the servers filled up in less than a week and they had to add new servers to compensate. It’s called Guild Wars 2.
Obviously you don’t remember the WOW train, They couldn’t pump servers out fast enough a month after release!
Comparisons like that mean moot. WoW had a following because of the strategy games, that in itself is a HUGE reason for it’s success.
Yes it is possible to still love a game with bugs. Its not the bugs that’s killing it but the lack of attention in a timely fashion to the bugs that’s killing it. I’m sure they will be fixed but in today’s standards for mmo gamers time is everything.
Fixing things takes time, haven’t you ever fixed something in your life? Have you ever worked on a car and something that should take 2 hrs ends up taking about 4?
There are a lot of people who have unrealistic time frames for the devs to make these fixes and don’t understand how difficult it can be to do these things.
ever played Rift? no? ok, no worries. The reason that game is so great is not just because its a quality mmo. No, its because of Trion; the hardest dev team I’ve ever seen. Time is everything and they realize that. They jump on bugs like Raid and thats why I still play it.
I understand that but you cannot compare and apple to a watermelon, Trion may be able to fix a bug in “Rift” quicker, but it also could mean that ANets programming is more complex.
I understand the complexity issue but since we are using analogies; why build a ship with no sails? A huge undertaking should not live beyond its means. Remember this is Guild Wars “2” therefore they have had plenty of time to strategize, prepare, and add sails to the ship before it sets sail.
It is not living beyond it’s means, even the best carpenter will make mistakes, but it’s not the mistake in itself that is the issue, it’s how you fix it.

You presume to much, if a server is full and only half of those accounts are playing then the population rating goes down, the player activity is monitored.
And if, say, a number of people equivalent to that half transfer to the server making it full again and the half that wasn’t active starts playing again, what then? That server will have a population 50% larger than it’s maximum capacity.
They also have options to increase capacity and which in turn can handle more but more people will end up in overflow, which in turn ANet allows free world transfers from the over populated server to somewhere else.

For the thousandth time, server capacity indicates the number of accounts bound to that server, not the number of people online. It’s early morning in Europe and still there are 5 full servers; that’s because they’ve reached the maximum number of accounts which can be bound to them, not because there are a lot of people playing at this hour. There’s no queuing system like in WoW. It’s not like if you’re on a server that is high and then it becomes full that you’ll have to sit in a queue; other people simply won’t be able to transfer to it anymore.

Why make a thread about it if you arent worried?
you know ignorance and bliss and all that.
I’m not worried, but there is threads going about regarding this games survivability, this thread is to prove that there are individuals who claim something but are not telling the truth….You know the whole “a picture says a thousand words” saying.
Move along kid.
Stop with the bullhonky tonk people! The game is fine and in great shape, ANet has made a masterpiece and will continue to make great changes to this game for an even better experience. Stop with the doom and gloom and the lies.
Good Job ANet keep up the good work!
See attachments below:
I agree with the OP, as a Vanilla WoW player myself. This game is great and has been well worth the money.
Sure it has bugs, and other content issues that need to be resolved, but give it time and it will happen.
Good post OP.
Ok good idea, ya I forgot I wanted to go for the 2h reduction. I will also take a look at the Synergy of Save Yourselves and Contemplation of Purity…
Awesome thanks for the replies guys!!
There don’t seem to be any traits in your link, making it hard to comment on the actual build.
The weapons and utilities are okay, but this might change depending on the traits you take.
Sorry about that…here is a new link for the setup…also in the valor tree the very last master trait is going to be Glacial Heart.

I am trying to make a control/support hammer build. I would like to make my 2nd weapon set a mace/shield. My traits will go into Valor, Honor and Virtues.
My main gear stats are going to focus on Toughness and Vitality.
Here is a link to my build below, and please give me some tips or advice on my build.
I have noticed that the medium armor is lacking for the Eng., Ranger and Thief. It seems to me that a lot of the armors that you get do not coincide with the type of class I play.
For instance, I cannot find any piece of head armor for my Engineer that does not look like a thief mask! I really hate that because I figured that I could find/get armor for my Engineer that would well…make him look like an Engineer?
Maybe it’s just me, but I hope ArenaNet looks into adding better medium armor designs for the ranger, engineer and Thief.
Also as a side note…I preview armor for my guardian and I am totally stoked because the armor sets look so awesome on him, I really wish I had that same feel for my Engineer.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
Yes, patch notes said if you can complete all 3 chains in one day you will recieve 180 tokens. So something is wrong
Maybe thats exactly what they meant – ONE DAY. So if you run three paths one after another you won’t get 180 but 60+45+15 or something like that based on DR system.
So i guess run one path, take 2 hours break, run another, take 2 hours break run third… Hmm. Is that how it works?
This is why we need clear communication on the DR system.
