Bored of grinding away at map completion? Want to change things up a little? Come to Council of Dusk [Dusk]’s Megamap!
We plan to do map completion as a party zerg, where we’ll start in a city and head out to its respective zone. We’ll start with 1 squad, but we have a few more commanders that can tag up if need be. No requirements other than the ability to be polite and the willingness to have a fun time In my opinion it will be interesting to see how much we can upscale the simple events in the starter maps
Can’t make it to the main event? JoinJess will be streaming the craziness live and I will be making a recording for later viewing.

@Power
using an API call helps if things ever change with that rotation. For example, we will supposedly be having a few new fractals soon. Burn me if that doesn’t alter the daily rotation somewhat.
additionally, typing “req” will bring up your copper fed and all equipment, with only a few miss-items (runes and sigils mostly) appearing as well.
as for rare sigil/rune disposal during multiloot… mystic toilet conduit works fairly well for that.
If Anet intended for people to get 20+ grand chests every octovine event, they would have put that many chests on one map. The multimap is clearly creative use of game mechanics and should be patched.
My thought is that they will likely try to make it so you can’t join a completed map till the timer runs out like in DS, preventing the excessive looting.
The weird thing is that you would have thought they would have done something about it by now if they were going to do anything. I doubt breach-hopping during SW’s primetime (and still today) was intentional, but yet it remains. Perhaps they will treat multimap the same way.
I seriously doubt any sane person believes that ANET anticipated this, but their silence leads me to believe that they either a) aren’t going to patch it, but don’t want to encourage people, or b) are on the fence about what to do.
Crash logs only takes minutes to send to ANet. When the crash occurs you are prompt whether to send it or not. All you need to do is click on send.
There is no such “prompt” or log when GW2 crashes your complete system to “off”. Not only the application, from one second to the next. I don’t state that it is absolutely sure GW2.exe but it only occures when playing GW2 for 15 to 20 minutes… and not occuring with any other game, application even benchmark tests… so I’m pretty sure…
Crashing full system to off? gw2 can’t do that, it lacks the kernal-level access needed to cause a crash that catastrophic.
It should be nerfed to ground – and it will be – because its simply too much money for so little effort. I’ve been lazy gamer this summer and still I’m almost done with 2 legendaries because of Tarir multiloot. Simply by doing it once a day nets me 60 gold worth of ectos and other materials. Its too good. No point playing the game anymore. Tarir is almost always on anyone just log in and get the loot. When I do one defend Tarir event/day somehow I end up with more keys than I started with so no point doing events in the map either. Can’t anyway since defend Tarir event is always on. Please nerf multiloot so theres point playing the game again.
First off, if you’re really netting ~60g / run I want to know what method you’re using. I typically net 20-30g max, and I use the “fast swapping” method and multiple toons.
Secondly, I don’t know what you mean by “the defend Tarir event is always up”. Like all other HoT metas, it spawns once every 2 hours.
EDIT: That math for the 2 legendaries isn’t right either, assuming your 60g/day estimate is correct – 60×30=1800g – not enough for even 1 legendary.

“Exploit” turns out to be another one of those words that we all treat differently, so it makes it difficult to discuss the underlying issues — we spend too much time arguing about the meaning of the word.
In this case, there are a two underlying issues that concern people, including the OP:
- Did ANet intend to make multi-loot possible when they updated the game recently?
- If not, do those engaging in multi-loot need to worry about being punished in some way for taking advantage of the alleged loophole in the mechanics that makes multi-loot possible?
I think nearly everyone agrees that ANet didn’t intend multiloot.
Aye. If anyone seriously thinks this was intentional, they need to see a therapist.
I think most people agree that, if ANet was concerned about harm-to-the-game, they would have already taken action, drastic or otherwise. A smaller number of people think that ANet should take action and they point to TP prices (especially ecto) as an indicator of impact, although I have yet to see any mention of actual harm.
There is a decided impact, but there is no massive supply-side spike, especially of ecto, yet. Sure, ecto supply is above demand (as I already mentioned) and thus price will continue to fall until equlibrium is reached, but I believe this will be a steady decline rather than a drop-off unless speculators mess stuff up. The worst “harm” I’ve seen are people kittenhurt about getting kicked and mouthing off to the comm or LT who kicked them (thankfully I don’t have this happen much as I explain rules at the start).
Thus, there are three major groups of people posting, using identical words to mean different things:
- Anti-multi-loot folks, using “exploit” in its most negative sense.
I’m pretty sure we can agree this definition is incorrect due to the fact that I, among other well-known multimap commanders, haven’t been hit with a banhammer or even a warning from anet.
- Neutral or pro multi-loot players, using “exploit” as a generic term about efficiently making use of mechanics.
This is the most logical understanding of the phrase, all things considered.
- Pro multi-loot participants, avoiding the use of “exploit” because it has only a negative meaning to them.
A.K.A: Head-in-the-sand approach.
tl;dr regardless of whether multi-loot is an “exploit” or an exploit or not, hardly anyone thinks ANet is likely to suspend or take coin away from frequent participants.
Exactly! Couldn’t have put it better myself.
(P.S: I rarely dissect someone’s post in this way, but this post deserved to have every point discussed.)
How about adding crystalline dust via salvaging ecto as a “recipe”? https://github.com/gw2efficiency/issues/issues/165
AB chests do not drop any raw gold. The only way it introduces gold is if someone vendors stuff, which as you said does not happen often.
They are guilty by association. The myriad of bags you get out of the chests do often drop a couple silver each.
And, I vendor a ton of stuff when I loot after Octovine… most notably trophies (that come out of bags) and the many minor sigils/runes I get from salvage. Vendor trash contributes a lot more to new gold than many people seem to think.
~EW
Ah. Forgot about the bags, and I don’t get too many minors due to forging greens. I still believe that the amount of raw gold removed from TP tax more than makes up for the small amount of raw gold earned from the event.
When you join a normal single map squad to do something you may join the wrong map and have to right click on someones name to join them in their map.
This is the same only there are many squads on many maps.
When you join, right click on someone to join let’s say Squad 2.
Now move your icon down to Squad 2.
You should see squad 1 – bunch of white icons
Your Squad – all green players
squad 3 – bunch of white icons
etcIf squad 2 or map 2 sucks for any reason OR if it’s totally awesome and wins whatever it’s doing and you have no further use for it and want to be in squad 3s map, right click on someone in squad 3 and if everyone is playing by the same rules you will end up in map 3. Move your icon to squad 3.
There is often a rule about moving to a lobby (squad 1) when you’re done with your map before moving to a new map. Some people enforce it, some people don’t even have a lobby. So figure it out as you go along but please make sure you are in the squad that goes with that map. The clue will be if your squad is all green icons, you’re in that map with them.
Ok so if I understand what you are telling me, people are basically using a squad the same way as a team speak server with multiples rooms, one subsquad for a different instance of the map. Am I right ?
This is the way a multiloot / multimap squad works. If this is what you saw, some people probably just made the squad into an ad-hoc multimap. Usually the squads advertised as multimap are stricter about the rules than the ones not advertised as MultiMap. (p.s: Most strict squads are strict out of kindness, not cruelty. people get mad if they taxi to somewhere they weren’t intending to taxi to.)
You can hide nameplates if you don’t like them clustering your screen. I do this with player names due to being a big event commander.
I think that there are a few axe-like hammer skins, and since the hammer is often used like a greataxe, the animations should be correct too. I don’t see why we need a separate weapon type for this.
Fulgerite. Nuff said.
Sparks → Fulgerite → Jewled Patches / Dowels → Gold
Side events in AB (mainly vinetooth Prime) lead to me earning ~7k Aurillium. Really just take a day or two to rack up some currencyy by lazilly doing side events. It adds up fast.
General, OP was not talking about a multimap squad. The squad they joined was not listed as multimap.
and the only people who attempt it do it for the achievements. It took me a few days to find a map that way that succeeded to get my own achievements.
That’s why I need to do it. Trying to unlock the headpiece and title for my revenant. I feel like the map itself is broken as a whole. Anyways I tried to guest on a different world. Is there a best world for it?
Guesting isn’t very useful. Just check the LFG 15-20 minutes before the start of the meta. You can check http://gw2timer.com/ and similar sites for that. The wiki might also have a timer.
Indeed it does. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Event_timers
@OP Worlds / guesting is useless since the megaserver system released late 2014: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/April_2014_Feature_Pack#Megaserver_system (NOTE: some more things have gone megaserver since then. Now server only matters for WvW.)
My own feeling is that if it introduces more money to the economy, it also introduces more sinks. I’m not convinced it introduces significantly more money. Do the AB chests even give any coin loot? If so, limiting or removing that might be the only change needed.
Otherwise, the only effect this can have is to increase the frequency of certain items (be they raw materials from salvaging or rare loot) which will drive the high-end prices down and in turn drive total number of purchases of those items up. Items can only increase the amount of total gold in the economy if they are sold to an npc, so the only way this can inject money into the economy is if it pushes prices of both items and materials so low that a significantly larger portion are sold to a vendor instead of being listed for trade. I doubt this is likely to cause that.
Given that anet has, to my knowledge, never removed a mechanic by which gold is siphoned out of the economy, i can’t see them doing anything about this one.
AB chests do not drop any raw gold. The only way it introduces gold is if someone vendors stuff, which as you said does not happen often.
However, we have passed the point where the ecto generated should be considered a gold sink via the TP, as supply has surpassed demand. The only thing the AB farm is doing now is axing prices, which reduces the amount of gold being removed from TP tax. At the same time, this makes gold more valuable, so people might be encouraged to convert gems to gold… Hard to say what ANET will do next. Perhaps they will just let multimap run its course – eventually the falling prices will cut profit margins. I used to make ~20g / run. Now I only make about 10g / run, despite having improved my running technique to hit more chests than I could earlier.
Hello,
I often command multimap (some of you folks may know me as Naeea), and I wanted to drop my perspective on the matter.
For the commander of a MM squad at least, MultiMap is no easy matter. You have to explain the basic rules, lock maps if people start to flood towards them in the setup phase, find trustworthy lieutenants to help you, and much more, all while running. Oh and let’s not forget dealing with people chewing you out because they got kicked. So I think I can say that the amount of effort required, at least from the commander and lieutenants, is roughly equal to the reward. Any PvE commanding job is easier than AB MultiMap.
Despite the significantly increased level of effort, I continue to do the job, even though no one ever tips me. Why? Because it simply is the best farm in the game at the current time.
That being said, however, the profit per run is going to drop off sharply soon. Why? because the supply of ectos has, for the first time this year, bypassed the demand. You can see the chart here: https://www.gw2tp.com/item/19721-glob-of-ectoplasm
Since the AB farm relies heavily on ectos for its profit, this free-falling ecto price will deter people from joining. On the plus side, if you are crafting Ad Infinitum or something similar, 1k ectos won’t be as expensive anymore.
Anet likes to keep the economy under control. this downward spiral in ecto price certainly isn’t good for them, and they will fix it one way or another. What remains to be seen is how. Will they cripple AB MultiMap? Will they add another sink like the ecto gambling skritt? Or something else?
(Note: I expect ecto prices to keep falling for at least another week. Near the start of this year, 1 ecto = 37s. We are currently only @ 42s.)
Nethertheless, I know two things about this AB MultiMap:
1) No one is going to get banned for this. There is simply too large a player population doing this, as can be seen by the number of simultaneous MultiMap squads (Naeea, Django Unchained, Heascon, and many others), all full to the brim (50 players each).
2) No “fix” will occur for at least a week. So keep farming folks, and sell your ecto quick.

DOS is normal. DDOS is not.
Please post the output txt file of the following command for analysis:
netstat -ano > userprofile\Desktop\NetStat.txt && notepad userprofile\Desktop\NetStat.txt
Copy and paste the info from the notepad… don’t attach the file or anything like that. If the output is too long to post, use pastebin or something similar.
I hope everyone knew that this would be a lot of work to rewrite the engine when we started this discussion, I assumed that was common knowledge. I think that it is, in spite of the effort required, the right thing to do if the devs want this game to last a lot longer. This doesn’t need to stop at dx12 either. Objects aren’t thread-safe? Well then rewrite them to support multithreading!
I will admit, I did not know the render thread was not the typical bottleneck with gw2. So perhaps this dx12 discussion is outdated. I apologize. The fact still stands that gw2 needs optimization if it is going to last another few years with this size playerbase. And to be honest, I hope it does. I would like to be able to finish off all the dragons before we get a gw3 (or, god forbid, anet/ncsoft give up the franchise as a lost cause).
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3ajnso/bad_optimalization_in_gw2/csdnn3n
As for DX9 and 32bit: Moving off of DX9 wouldn’t buy us a whole lot performance wise, as all interaction with DirectX is happening on the render thread, which is generally not the bottleneck.
To lazy to look up the last thread on this topic but here’s the game dev’s explanation as to performance issues.
Sounds like a pretty lazy reply… heck I get almost the same performance in gw2 as in Star Citizen and everyone knows how badly optimized that is right now… (being in pre-alpha, optimization is low priority)
I have decided to give up on dual screens. After switching off eyefinity, however, the problem persists – in gw2 only. This implies a crossfire issue, or a driver incompatibility. Anyone else having issues with using the gw2 crossfire profile on the 64bit client?
Has anyone noticed that gw2 seems to rely much more on the CPU than the GPU? Are you noticing a lack of multi-core utilization? Wish gw2 could run a bit better? There is an answer to these questions…
Vote for DirectX12 support!
Too long has gw2 been confined to the ancient limitations of dx9. It is time to make your voice heard! If ANET were to rewrite gw2 in dx12, we would see massive performance gains! Why confine the game to a single core when we can use all the cores? Dx12 has massive gains over dx11, imagine what the gain over dx9 would be!
I want to see the marvelous world that ANET has sculpted better than ever before. I want to be able to use the full power of my system to make it sharp as it can be.
Are you with me?
You can transfer back and forth once per week at most for a gem fee. All account stuff is preserved. There is no difference between the two other than they are mutually exclusive – NA players cant join EU maps / instances and vice versa. Reason I know so much about this? My ex has friends in both servers so they transfer back and forth every now and then.
gw2efficiency has gathering maps for rich metal nodes and other node clusters… I don’t think you could make 500+g in about 2 days from that though, even with the watchwork pick. How much time did you spend per day?
Yes, when the setup was working I shifted my character to the right.
It appears that the display spanning + freeze issue is not confined to gw2 – got similar results attempting to play Star Citizen 1.3 Alpha. I think I’ll contact AMD and just use a single monitor for now… The Oculus Rift is slated for Q1 2016, so I think I will hold out until then.
(won’t let me submit a support ticket on this for some reason... probably the DXDIAG making it too long)
Hello, I recently upgraded my GPU from a Nvidia gtx 770 to a PAIR of R9 290X’s in crossfire. Gw2 will load to character select, but freeze upon attempting to change render sampling, resolution, or load into any map. By using the maploadinfo flag, I was able to determine that the freeze occurred at the STATE_READY_WAIT state, after all assets had been loaded. I am using 2 2560x1440 monitors in AMD eyefinity for a total resolution of 5120x1440. Using an SSD for both OS and gw2. Issue occurred on both 32bit and 64bit clients.
running latest AMD Crimson drivers.
DXDIAG attached.
@Fat Disgrace
Even Norn are pretty sexualized. There are no real ‘curvy’ options in any class – especially sylvari. The only way to make sylvari have breasts at all is to use the zodiac armor – which is kinda meh. I doubt they will make this change though, because fanservice is more important than realistic figures :P
kitten it… I just blew all my gems… Hope I have enough gold to convert as i want both the glasses and the Zodiac
Heya all! Have you ever wanted a guild that treated you like a person, not a number? A guild that lets all its members have an equal say in things? A democracy in other words? Well, you are in luck! Council of Dusk [Dusk] has just started open recruitment. For the moment, we are a laidback, unfocused guild in the North America region with the sole purpose of having fun. We are still small, but that is a good thing. If you want to WvW with us, please be on Northern Shiverpeaks. We have our own private Mumble server (not channel, dedicated machine with a 1Gbit uplink), and have a website at https://duskguild.net. (*note: Website is still under construction at time of writing.)
Want in? Pop me an email at admin@duskguild.net, pm me in game at That ol noob.7083, or hit @Scáth up at the Free Domain Club. Get ready to see guilds in a whole different light.

Try high-level fractals. Grind to lvl 80 and the real fun starts.
Most popular zone for general hangout / map chat: Lion’s Arch
Most popular zone for farming: The Silverwastes (abbreviated SW) – a new map Northwest of Brisban Wildlands
Gear is still static at max lvl, but Ascended quality has a small stat increase over exotic. PvP gear was removed, now you choose stats, runes, and sigils from the ‘PvP Build’ interface in PvP.
Wardrobe system: Skins, dyes, outfits, and minipets are unlocked account-wide now.
Specializations: Like traits, but you are restricted to three lines at any time, and can change them freely at any time. … Really there is too much to explain in a forum post. If you are on NA servers (world is irrelevant now, you just have to be in the same region as everyone else for everything except WvW) then add me to your friend list and I will be glad to help you rediscover gw2!
-Bump-
I have just acquired hosting for this project and will be acquiring a domain very soon. The host is new to the scene however, and I may end up also using it for my guild, so expect rapid changes. The wiki should be operational within a month at most, hopefully within a week.

Hi, so I tried out the vine-hunting adventure and found that the 2 rewards (a mastery point and a fine-quality ??? item) were both able to be claimed on my live account. I submitted a bug report, but was wondering how many other ppl had this happen to them?
Ok, let’s make one thing clear. Swiftness is NOT used exclusively in moving around the map. Swiftness has a viable combat use too – getting out of attacks w/o dodging. If we increase the base movement speed, we will have to increase attack speed too. My reaction speed already makes some parts of gw2 tough, I don’t need every boss fight to become 2x harder, thanks.
“My other problem is that if +25% swiftness is standard, people will still demand for more once they are used to it.”
^ this. The cup you are trying to fill has no bottom. You are just going to keep wanting to go faster and faster until you can’t even do JPs anymore because you overshoot everything. Just get used to using waypoints (you’re reducing inflation!) or enjoy the scenery for once.
>.< I like the ascended changes, but I’m not so sure about the fractal changes… That backpack is BEAUTIFUL though….
Will this be updated to correspond with the changes to specializations? I’m willing to explain my modified AH build if you are to busy!
Might want to change ’doesn’t work on google chrome’ to ’doesn’t work on the chromium framework’. Just tested with chromium build 44.0.2403.107
[STAR] Might be interested in you. We are a little bigger than 50 (sitting around 90 atm) but are quite active. We use Mumble as our voice chat program (I am the server admin and decided it would work best for our needs), and are most active on weekend afternoons / weekday evenings. we are based in NSP but are more PvE / PvP focused anyway. If you want to WvW with us, we can get you transfered but it might take time. If you want more info, feel free to message me!
Hello,
Since the megaserver system has made your home world irrelevant for everything except for WvW, would you be willing to join an NSP-based guild? Kingdom of the Stars [STAR] would love to have you! We do guild missions twice a week (Friday and Sat, NA times) and use Mumble (link) for voice com.
If anyone needs help getting transferred to NSP and wants to join a laidback everything guild, Kingdom of the Stars [STAR] can help! Pm me for offer details (I am more easily reachable by in game mail than by forum PM though.)
I have made a video of my revenant, check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je0YK0rZp7g
That’s refreshing to see a moving image instead of a still image for once!
Are you on a North American server? If so, Kingdom of the Stars [STAR] might be able to help. Shoot me a mail.
Hi, you remember me right, the guy that wanted to make a new music thread but was convinced to turn it into a wiki?
Well I have noticed a few problems with the current platform we are using for it (wikia):
I would be willing to find a host for the wiki, and provide a domain name for it. I just need input on what CMS to use. I am currently considering SMW as the search function provided is quite powerful. However, it may be more than we need. Any thoughts?
Ok so call me by my account name, but I just found out about the whole NA/EU lock – players from NA servers can’t visit EU maps, and vice versa. I found this out while trying to help a friend that was doing arah that had just moved temporarily to an EU server. Ok, here is the rant:
First of all, fix the error message. How many people are going to figure out what ‘network error’ means on their own? Furthermore, this implies a client side error rather than a weird cross-server issue.
Next, why can’t we guest to servers outside our region? The guesting service used to have a purpose, but now it has none.
Finally, I understand the issues of having a character on multiple region servers. Data has to be moved, etc, etc. Don’t give me that lecture.
Here is my proposal: Accounts will be able to guest cross-region provided that they have a friend or guildie on the destination server. This guesting shall have a maximum period of one week, and may be only done a few times a month, in order to reduce I/O and network overhead. Normal guesting rules apply: You can’t WvWvW on the guesting server, etc.
I would even be satisfied with a fix to dungeons that let you get around this. Whatever works best.
Truely,
Scáth (it’s pronounced sk-AY-th, by the way)
So many great pics! keep it coming!
The only problem I see is that about half the links are still dead >.<
